Exciting. Adventurous. Enthralling. Uplifting.
This story was beautiful, with just the right mix of every element for a well-rounded tale. You will be immediately caught up in this saga, and will be left wishing for more! Also check out the sequel, So True A Love. Both books are brilliant!!

Amber Lynn Perry does a magnificent job painting a picture for her readers! Throughout the whole story I felt like I was there, personally witnessing the events unfold. I also enjoyed Perry's use of actual historical events, which helped me to form a timeline while I was reading. I'm looking forward to reading the second book of this series!

My attention was captured from the first paragraph! Imagine learning upon his death that your respected Tory father is actually a patriot! It is hard to believe So Fair a Lady is Amber Lynn Perry's debut novel! This revolutionary era book is fast-paced with strong main characters! Set in the Boston to Barnstable, Massachusetts area, the book contains plenty of action. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys American historical fiction. I won So Fair A Lady in a giveaway by Loraine Nunely.

I truly enjoyed this book! The mystery and intrigue was great! The reluctance to admit love because of chivalry ! I would highly recommend it especially for those who enjoy historical Christian romance. The truth will set you free!

I have been reading Christian Regency romances for quite a while and felt that I needed a change. Coming across this book, and not recognizing the author, I decided to check out the description of this book and immediately started to read...and read...and read some more! Wow! Pulled right into this exciting read before I even finished the first chapter! I always find it EXCITING to find a new author who KNOWS how to write, hold my attention and enthusiasm, and keeps God in the story, and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, why and how God should be kept in the picture! I am now going to purchase the next book in this collection as I have NO doubts that I will be equally enthralled. I will DEFINITELY be following and recommending this author to friends and family!

I love historical fiction and this book is a wonderful example. Detailing the events of one year, 1773, this story follows events in Revolutionary America with insight and finesse. I enjoyed the varied historical details as well as the dramatic and exciting plot. Sisters Kitty and Eliza are beautiful, pampered, and rather naïve. Eliza is torn between two vastly different men who love and desire her. All is not as it appears and the sisters must navigate their way to discover the hidden truth and who they can safely trust. Eliza is the true heroine with her gentle, selfless spirit, hunger for knowledge, and true patriotism. The contrast between Thomas and Samuel is complete and often horrific, a true villain in this story. Most of all I loved the message of faith and perseverance during adversity. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I loved the characters and the romantic tension. I felt "safe" reading because it had all the romance without becoming too graphic. I would definitely have my teenage daughters read it. I know they will love it. I also appreciated the time period and the conflicts the characters faced leading up to the birth of our country.

Has it All....one of the most refreshingly spirtual, dramatic, historical and romantic stories I have ever read. One great and worth waiting for endings. Had me blush and smile at the same time. Great writing, plot, story development so much so I immediately purchached the sequel. I believe this dear author will continue to entertain, teach and divert us for a long time. That is my hope...

The subject matter, the time leading up to the Revolutionary War, and some favorite author recommendations persuaded me to give this book a try. I was hooked and had trouble putting it down even for important things like sleep. I will read one more chapter turned into I have to find out what happens next. I didn't know for sure that there would be a sequel but by the end I purchased the next two books in the series.

I purchased the audio and Kindle versions. The skillful narration by Mary Sarah Agliotta almost saved the book for me, but I stopped listening after a few chapters. Although I did want to keep listening so I could find out what would happen to the characters, the too-frequent and awkward use of figurative language made me uncomfortable. Some examples include: “Her legs already screamed in pain and hellish blisters germinated on the backs of her feet”; “… and the glowing embers in the fireplace mocked”; “His muscles hardened as fresh resolve seeped into his bones”; “A mixture of relief and added dread kneaded his already weary muscles”; “Urgency poured into his gut…”; “A stabbing thought struck his brain”; “Pushing away the pit in her middle, she reminded herself again …”; When he reached the house and found the door open, his concern jumped fifty notches”; “The ugly question hopped from his mouth”; “Her eyes found his and the struggle in her lovely face nailed his boots to the ground”; and, “… and he couldn’t stand the cannon blast of nerves shooting off in his gut.” In addition, inconsistencies frustrated me. For example, Thomas believes that even if he exposes a doctor as a patriot, a British officer will not harm the doctor’s daughters, but very soon -- I think it is the same day –Thomas decides that the girls are in mortal danger because he just exposed their father as a patriot. I hate to be critical of someone’s hard work, but for the sake of other readers, I wanted to share what I knew about the book. Although I can’t get my money back for the Kindle version, I’m going to request a refund for the audiobook.

Wow! Ms. Perry has penned a colonial bodice ripper without all the gratuitous sex so prevalent in the historical romantic novel genre. She brings her characters Eliza, Thomas, Kitty and Samuel fully alive from page one; I read the entire novel in two and one-half days because I literally could not put it down. One of the things I admire most about So Fair a Lady is the fact that Perry holds true to her Christian faith throughout the story; she fleshes out her characters truthfully, with all their natural yearnings and urges front and center as the love story of Eliza and Thomas unfolds, yet holds them true to their Christian faith to remain pure. This is a powerful first novel from a writer who knows her history and keeps the pace moving so quickly, one can scarcely catch their breath. The plot gives us a small glimpse into the tumultuous time when our country was being born, as evidenced by the myriad of emotions and allegiances for and against the crown experienced by the principals. I was ecstatic to discover So Fair a Lady is the first in an apparent series~I can't wait for the next!

This was a delightful book, start to finish! I thoroughly enjoyed it! Which definitely cannot be said for all Christian fiction.

The things I liked most were:

1) I didn't want to put the book down once I had taken it up.

2) The history, although not deep, was a delicious backdrop for the book. The author obviously did her best to be accurate in all her usage of the Colonial pre-Revolution days. The author herself says that she is not an historian, but still set out to be as accurate as possible, and I think she did an admirable job. The story was enhanced by the historical setting.

3) The Romance part of the book is wonderful. All of us who enjoy a good romantic tale, but don't want it to override the overall story or be too tawdry will appreciate her representation.

4) The action was great! I often found myself thinking, "Oh no! Will they get away in time or will the antagonist win?" And although we all know the good guy wins in the end, as he should, the action is good enough to keep you wondering how it will all work out.

5) From a Christian fiction point of view, I was actually impressed. There are no "going to Church and a lost person finds salvation" as in other books. But she still found a wonderful way to insert God into the narrative throughout the whole book. We often hear the characters prayers of faith, trust and petitions for guidance. While I like both formats, I found it quite refreshing. It also served as a quiet and consistent nudge to remind us all to turn over our everyday things to the Lord.

I have to say that I thought it was a great read.overall. It has been a while since I've read such a delightful book. It had a bit of everything in it, and it was all seamlessly done. I just finished reading it and I immediately looked for the next book in the series because I couldn't wait to read it.

Note: Someone mentioned poor editing and misspellings and I cannot speak to that as I listened to it with an app that read it to me.

Note 2: I think if you like Lori Wick books you would like this author as well.. On the other hand, if you like Gilbert Morris novels you will find this one light on history, but otherwise a great read..

Of all the historic Christian romance books I've read up to now, "So Fair a Lady" is my favorite. I am thrilled this is the beginning of a series because--though I very much admire the principled character of the handsome hero in this book and the determination of the lovely heroine's search for truth regarding her father's double life-- I confess that I fell head-over-heels for the dashing patriot Dr. Nathaniel Smith. He plays an important role in this book and I can only hope he will be featured in another one of the books in this series. If you're out there, Ms. Perry, PLEASE give us a book about Nathaniel! . . .I appreciate the sweet, pure love that grows between Eliza and Thomas in "So Fair a Lady" and I appreciate the message of the blessings of freedom that are a gift to us through our Savior Jesus Christ.

I was really excited about this book based on the description from the back but was quickly disappointed. It was tough to finish, but I did anyway because I have issues with stopping something I start.

First of all, the characters are pretty shallow and predictable. Here's a basic break-down of the book:

(SPOILER) Girl falls in love with guy but knows she shouldn't; guy falls in love with girl but won't admit it; girl weeps a lot over guy; guy pushes girl away; girl questions if guy loves her; all of sudden, BAM! They admit they are crazy about each other; next day, girl has to leave guy and guy questions if girl ever loved him (uggh, what a dense, dense man). I mean, seriously? You doubt someone's love for you after they accept a proposal the night before? What kind of relationship is this going to be? Definitely not built on trust. (END SPOILER)

It is very, VERY soap-opera-ish. I rolled my eyes more than once at all the references to soft skin, rose-scented hair, taste of the lips, etc. Don't get me wrong, I like a good romance, but I also like balance. There were only a few flecks of history in the book and I would've liked to have known more about the history instead of silly high-school back and forth romance.

I wouldn't recommend it, sorry...

What a lovely story created around a tumultuous time in America’s history. People were divided over their political views even at the cost of their loyalties within their families and among their friends. Ms. Perry tells us a story of a young woman and her sister who, due to their father’s political allegiance and his recent death, find themselves on the run from all that is familiar and those they love. The heroine, Eliza is a woman who fiercely loves her sister and is strong in character. She feels herself drawn to the man who transports them away from their home, for their own safety. She struggles with the dawning awareness of her father’s secrets that have caused the upheaval in their lives. The love story develops between Eliza and Thomas, despite many obstacles. They find themselves drawn to each other and their chemistry ignites. Without giving away the story, let me say that if you love a romance, you will enjoy this story!

A spectacular debut novel by Amber Perry! Breathtaking and gut-wrenching scenes fill this wonderful pre-Revolutionary War story about two courageous Americans; whose faith and patriotism motivate them to seek truth above all else, and whose love of country and each other push them toward ultimate sacrifices.

Eliza Campbell's sheltered life disintegrates when her beloved father dies and leaves behind the discovery of a well-kept secret; one that he desperately wishes Eliza to know and understand. Abruptly driven from her home by British forces, she and her sister Kitty escape from Boston with a virtual stranger, Thomas Watson. Thomas has secrets of his own and vows to protect the beautiful daughters of his beloved mentor by sheltering them in obscurity, within the walls of his own home. Also pursuing both Eliza and Thomas; for totally different reasons, is British officer Samuel Martin, who demands love from Eliza and vengeance from Thomas. Both realize the horrific consequences of being found; not only for themselves but for the cause they support.

The ensuing chapters of this book are filled with tender moments and glimpses of historical events; events that should challenge those of us who enjoy freedoms afforded by the valiant efforts of those who bravely secured them, to be very thankful. Perry's characters are well developed; the scenes in this book are neither under-written or over-written and the reader leaves its pages with a deepened understanding of the value of serving one's heavenly King above all else.

It was tempting to banner this novel with five stars and I would have, except that I think Amber Perry is only going to get better, and the rest of this story is just waiting to be told in its upcoming sequel.

It was a pleasure to receive this novel from the author and act as an early influencer.

I have loved reading novels set in the Colonial time period since I picked up Ann Rinaldi's Time Enough for Drums as a teenager. There is something about the political birth of our country and the patriots that affected change that is so powerful. This book is especially dynamic since Eliza begins loyal to the King of England, but as she follows the prompting of her father to search for the truth, she comes to an understanding that the true King to whom her loyalties belong is God.

The relationship Eliza has with her sister Kitty is sweet and also grounding since they don't know where their future will take them, but they are strong for each other. The chemistry between Eliza and Thomas is palpable, and the restrained passion creates a wonderful romantic tension. It was interesting to read Officer Martin's point of view as well, since he doesn't appear to be a villain to Eliza and Kitty, and his decisions stem from a real worry for Eliza.

The pacing of the novel is well-done, with a good balance of action and apprehension as well as pondering and growth. The ending wraps this book up, however there is another novel in the series with Kitty as the main character, and I am excited that it will be releasing this summer! I definitely recommend this book to fans of Jody Hedlund and Laura Frantz. Amber Perry's debut novel has been not only a pleasure to read, but also thought-provoking and inspiring.

Eliza Campbell thought her worst day was the death of her father but it was the first of many bad days to come. Her life was not what she was raised to believe. Her father kept secrets to protect both of his daughters. Now it will be up to Eliza to protect hererself and her younger sister. Her beau, British Officer Samuel Martin surprisingly was not the man her father wanted to her to marry.

Thomas Watson feels it is his responsibility to rescue Eliza and her sister from none other than British Officer Martin. When Officer Martin finds the error in his orders he is positive the women were kidnapped by a patriot by the name of Thomas Watson. Now Samuel is determined to track down the kidnapper and bring his love Eliza and her sister back him and to their home.

Thomas must find a way to reveal the truth to Eliza about her father's mission and Thomas's role in that mission.

This is what I would call a block buster book. I was mesmerized by this exploding story of action, danger, romance, faith, hope and redemption. It's a real page turner. I loved Thomas Watson, he had such admiration and dedication to his cause as a patriot. He was also very committed to protect Mr. Campbell's daughters.

I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

I highly recommend this book.

Traitors and spies, honor and integrity, liberty and freedom, tyranny and chains.

With a father who turned traitor to the Crown and secretly allied himself with the Patriots, Eliza and her sister, Kitty, find their lives and home in danger immediately after his death. Stakes only rise with an obsessed suitor, Samuel–who also happens to be Thomas’s long time enemy–searches for Eliza, and Thomas pledges to keep the Campbell sisters hidden. Hiding provides much opportunity for Eliza and Thomas to grow closer, but danger is never far from the picture considering Samuel has sworn to bring down Thomas while he searches for Eliza.

Filled with angst and drama, So Fair a Lady offers the reader a bit of a cat and mouse game between Eliza, Thomas, and Samuel. The time period, set just before the start of the American Revolution, provides an interesting historical background, and the reader sees Eliza questioning her beliefs about liberty and government along with her heart. The novel also has a strong spiritual element, as honoring God is never far from either Thomas’s or Eliza’s mind. The bulk of the novel, however, centers around romance and emotions more than anything else.

If you're a romance lover who also enjoys lots of drama, then you'll like this novel.
