Alex and Maddie's story begins with both being single. Alex is a Lord and prestige and duties to protect his family and their Castle. Maddie was not as fortunate. She's in a predictable position. Her parents had died and she was at the mercy of her cruel step-brother, Kenneth. He beat her and berated her daily. You must read how their lives finally crossed paths. You will love how the author spins their story!

Started out okay but then way too much happened to the h. I liked the H even though he did a lot of yelling. What was really annoying was how many times we read about her thoughts of letting him down. Characters could have been more developed. The step-brother and the guy she was supposed to marry were way too vile. I thought the secondary characters, mainly Alex's siblings, were great and added a lot to the story.

...was easy to imagine from the descriptions in the story. Sensitive topics were handled with sensitivity. Sometimes the dialog was choppy and simplistic and there were some typos, but I truly enjoyed the book.

This is a well written, fast paced story. At times I got a bit put out with Maddie (she could be a bit self-centered in her thoughts), but it was an excellent look into abuse, rape and torture, and how those atrocities may have been dealt with centuries ago; as in, the more things change, the more they stay the same....Well worth your time to read.

The love story of Alex and Maddie. Kenneth, Maddie's stepbrother, is betting her because she refuse to marry his friend. One day Alex came to their keep and rescue her. Can Maddie find love and will Alex be able to help her. You love this story.

Sure I would want to have Maddie's pain tolerance. She was so strong and silent during painful moments. I'm glad Alex was a patient man with her fears. Her stepbrother needed a more violent death than he got. I'm looking forward to more by this author.

This story could have been much better, but I just found myself wishing it would end. Maddie was too frightened and good for my taste. Alex was a patient man. I really loved when little Jennie was in the story, but the villains were not even in the story. I was constantly waiting for something to happen. it is a free story so I won't complain, I would like to thank Keira for this story.

Is it possible a heroine is just too saintly, too sweet, too understanding, too quick to justify someone’s wrongs, just too everything? Yes. That would be the heroine of Rescued by the Highlander.
Maddie MacDonld lives with her evil step brother who in reality I think is her half-brother but the author likes the word step brother much better. Anyway, her stepbrother is mean and vicious because his mother was mean and vicious. Apparently Maddie’s saintly father had absolutely no influence over his son. Maddie is beaten by her brother regularly and learns to just live with it. Her brother has betrothed her to an evil Lord who has abused her in an even worse fashion.
Maddie is rescued by Laird Alexander Grant who happens to be staying all night in her brother’s castle. Alex feels something rotten is happening in the keep and returns to discover Maddie being whipped by her brother. He manages to spirit her out of the castle while her brother is none the wiser.
Alex falls for Maddie. She is so beautiful and kind and thoughtful and caring. Maddie is also loved by Alex’s family and she is called Maddie MacD by his sisters which sounded way too modern a moniker.
Maddie begs Alex to make sure no one ever gets hurt because of her. How would she ever live with the guilt? Alex has a tendency to yell and when he does Maddie takes it personally. Maddie is almost treated like a child by Alex.
Spoiler…. Her deductive reasoning is a little off kilter too. She supposes Alex to be harboring a secret mean side and even though her trusted married nurse has told her about the marriage bed, Maddie is certain it is a horrible place with good reason. She really is convinced every man has a terrible beast lurking inside of him waiting to be unleashed. Her father though was a very kind man and her male servants are not explosive and vile. Still Maddie believes men are rotten so I could not accept all of her problems vanishing away after one bedding with Alex, not when the reader has been told several times about her fears.
Maddie and Alex did not seem on equal footing. Alex is more of a protector than a partner.

Enjoy so much reading these books about the lives and times of the Scots, and when the 2countries (England and Scotland) battle for which is right. And the lives of these Highlanders are so full of things that I can't imagine happening in our times. A really good look into their lives and times.

Story is fast paced and filled with suspense. Our heroine has a sweet, gentle spirit but has been cruelly treated and imprisoned by her step-brother for years and is haunted by a tragic rape. Our hero Laird rescues her and with the help of his family tries to teach her how to love and trust again.

An exciting storyline, but too much syrup. The overwhelming sweetness and fluffiness of the storytelling took away from the red line leading through the telling of the tale. Although it felt cloying at times, I still liked it. I will read the sequels with interest, hoping for a little less flowery heart searching and a little more of the good spinning and weaving of a strong romance.

Wow, did that keep you on your toes, the strength Maddie displayed throughout her step brothers abuse makes a person feel whiney compared to what most people go through. Alex had such patience with her.
Great read!

This book is a good example of how authors should show actions and feelings, not tell them. The characters got repetitive after a while and some good editing and rewrites would have corrected this issue. The plot is ok, if not a little hard to believe. This story had potential, but didn't quite live up to it. I really wanted to give it three stars, so maybe 2.5 instead.

This book sounded so promising but honestly it was disapointing. The male character was fine but the female was kind of annoying at times. She was just way too passive and afraid all the time. I feel like the story line with the brother was oddly undeveloped too. Actually most of the story line was not developed enough. I think the thing that annoyed me the most though was the time flow in the book. It was inconsistent and didn't make much if any sense.

Oh my gosh, where to begin? This was an amazingly fast paced highland historical romance. It was filled with intrigue, cruelty, passion, pain, and in the end a love like no other. Maddie and Alex are the main characters who overcome much to allow love into their hearts. Amazing writing by a great author! I'm looking forward to more of this series.

Found this an uplifting tale. Even though live may begin positively, events happen that quickly turn downward. However, karma always strikes twofold. This tale is speak of good and evil. Well written and heartwarming.

I loved the Highlander show on TV. I began reading this account of a love story from that era and had a really really difficult time putting it down. I feel like I was transported back in time to the Laird Grant keep. I felt like I was watching the story unfold in front of me. Great story. I look forward to reading other books in this series.

I love stories from Scotland and this one did not disappoint. The Laird was so really I could see him in my mind, a braw hunky leader and Maddie's perfect partner. I loved this book and am going to read more.

Alex and Maddie storyline was very spiritual and romantic. The patience of Alex, tells the love he has for Maddie. The storyline with the evil brother Kenneth, kept me thinking, Did he killed her parents? My question was answer at Madrid`s birth of two son. Love it! Waiting to read about the others sibling series the Grant.

This is the first time I've read Keira Montclair. It dealt with difficult issues in an unusual way for a historical ... pretty fanciful and probably not at all realistic ... but, hey, we all have plenty of real life in our lives, right? We all wish we could have an Alexander Grant. I liked this story very much.

The plot is actually very good. However, the writing desires quite a lot. It's very disjointed in places and very simplistic throughout. It's contradictory in some of the main parts that really makes it hard to follow. Also, everyone is always shouting or yelling, even in inappropriate times. Or giggling. The author really needed to be better acquainted with a thesaurus and perhaps more firmly rooted in a bit more reality of human nature.

Good character and story line development. A good balance of suspense and realism enough to to keep you guessing. A couple of over the top scenes but it is a romance book. I would definitely read another one of this authors books.

The story keeps your interest going, even though it is impossible ti conceive of actual life going on in two different time periods. But it does to some extend satisfy the need of us in modern time to wonder how folks living in a century long ago, like the 16th century would react to all that is possible now in the 21st century.

Madeline MacDonald is being force by her abusive stepbrother into a marriage with another abusive neighbor for some stupid money/land/pride/family reason when she continues to say "nay" he gives her another beating and locks her in her room.
Another neighbor Laird Alexander Grant stops in with some of his men, they are investigating reivers that are causing small losses on their lands, something doesn't seem right to Alex, the keep is being poorly maintained, all signs of wealth are missing, and Laird MacDonald says his stepsister is not feeling well. Alex decides they will stay for the night and when he can't sleep and goes looking for the door that leads to the Parapets for some fresh air he finds Maddie asleep and bruised. When they leave the next day he can't get her off his mind and then he finds a message from a stable worker begging him to help Maddie, it includes a map to the secret tunnels into the MacDonald keep, where they are able to rescue/kidnap her right in the middle of a brutal beating that was interrupted by a fire somewhere else on the MacDonald lands.
I couldn't put this book down, I loved this family that the author has created and can hardly wait to continue the series

Great book, glad I persisted in trying to find it! It was in brand new condition, arrived earlier than expected.
The story line was good and the characters very believable. It was all a story of this genre should be!
Would love to read more by this author, and cannot say enough about this book vendor!
