The writer didn't ease things in the story. One minute someones waiting for something and before you know it, its already happening. I don't want to spoil the book, but you'll understand once you read it. I thought it was a good book and have already bought the second book.

This was a well-written book. It was believable and the plot held together well. I think I should have been a Scot, but since I'm not, I'll have to settle for reading about them. Exciting twists in the plot made for a very good read.

Not being a fan of explicit romance novels, i found it a bit overdone. I found the writer going over and over the same thoughts and arguements page after page.
Although the storyline was interesting and the body of work was well written, I thought the characters lost a great deal of depth due to their repetitive train of thought.
I do not deduct stars for thinks that are preference, such as explicit content. With that being said, i think it could have been better with a tad more work.

Enjoyed this story of action, adventure, and romance. It was easy to read and held my interest. A little different than your average highland love story because the hero was not only a laird, but a sea captain as well. This was my first read by this author, and although it was a stand alone novel I look forward to the continuing saga in her upcoming books.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It had a great story line with fast paced action in every chapter. The characters were all well written and developed. There was a good balance between the two lead characters and the other characters were good as well. Well deserving of high recommendation.

There are a lot of expectations in this eternally popular genre. Readers of Highland Romances look for specific elements in the story arc, and are not very forgiving if these landmarks are missed. Amy Jarecki hits every key moment full on with a vibrant energy that makes them feel fresh, and not just the fulfillment of audience expectation. She adds to these essential ingredients a rip-roaringly good battle sequence. As a long time fan of C.S. Forester and Patrick O'Brian, I found nothing lacking the final clash at Raasay.

I was entertained reading this tale but there were things that I just didn't like that make it hard for me to give it more stars. The biggest problem for me was Calum's solution as Laird to provide for his starving clan was to create a clan of pirates...just not my idea of an heroic solution. And if he was embracing being a pirate...why in the world would he do the honorable thing and return an intact-Lady Anne when he wanted her? Didn't seem consistent with the whole notion of being a pirate. I also think Lady Anne was pretty quick to turn her back on her English heritage. But I guess all the steamy scenes got my interest going enough to continue with the series.

This is a very enjoyable story with excellent characters and all that a great book should be. I wish someone had edited or proofread it before it was published because the abundance of errors and typos creates an almost constant distraction.

Otherwise I loved this book.
