J.L.Jarvis writes an informative and entertaining account regarding "the killing times." The fictional account stays close to the historical accounts and is an eye opener of the religious prejudices f the time.

I really enjoy the stories of the Highland people and read anything that has them in a title. this is a very interesting book that I read with very little time laid down. I couldn't put it down! Love this series.

Story filled with human love, faith, misjudgements, history, beliefs, friendships, tragedy, misguided loyalities, need for truth, building relations. The life and learning's of humans in a time of long ago written with feeling and understanding.

I really loved the characters in this book and will be buying the next in the series to see more of them. The story moved at a good pace and had a fair amount of trials for the couple without seeming too far fetched.

Story was well written, believable and delightful characters. The settings allowed the reader to feel a part of the story. A great look into the strengths and weaknesses of people in times of great tragedy and turmoil.

I loved the history covered in Highland Soldiers. The romance of the hero and heroine was presented in such an unusual way that it grabbed me and held me to the very last word. I will be reading more by this author.

Nice story. It treated both sides of the conflict as human with valid points of view. The author seems to have moments of incredible energy, when lots of things SUDDENLY happen without the background to support them. Overall, it was pretty good, though.

Although this was predictable in some ways, other parts came as a total surprise. The actual story kept my interest and the setting and time period are among favorites to read about.

There were a few times I was surprised when modern language popped up. However, there was not enough to distract from the story.

I think the story gave a nice snapshot of how times were during the mid 1640s.

Had no idea about the religious conflicts in Scotland in the 1600s or the responsibility of the guards,: you loose a prisoner, you take his place. Very interesting book. Will look for others by Jarvis.
