A missing Nazi train filled with gold, the search for a war criminal, memories of Holocaust survivors all combine to make a great read. Initially I thought it was a bit slow but about 1/3 of the way through the pace picked up and all thoughts of housework disappeared. The book is well researched and covers a period in history that must never be forgotten lest we fall into an abyss again. I've been following another author's series of action/adventure books which can sometimes leave me bored to tears as lengthy descriptions of equipment, vehicles, etc. fill pages upon pages. Thankfully Mr. Turpin has kept this to a minimum making it a more enjoyable reading experience, sticking to the plot and fleshing out the characters. I do recommend this book and have already queued up the next two Joe Johnson novels in my Kindle and expect to enjoy them as much as I did this one. Housework is overrated anyway.

This is an action packed, fast paced, intriguing book of deception, deceit, conspiracy. It spans several continents and events that started in 1944 several decades later come to light in 2011.
I really enjoyed this book. The thing that soon became obvious as I read, was the attention to detail. The historical aspect has been very well researched and executed, within a very action packed and fast paced story. There are certain things from the living conditions of prisoners in concentration camps that are not pleasant reading, and they shouldn’t be, and I felt the author used enough information to keep the story flowing. He has not got bogged down with too much historical information, instead he has found a good balance that is essential to a certain sub-plots of the story. The same balance has been found with the political aspects of the story as well, enough to be helpful but not overly done. I think what I am trying to say is that, there is a lot of sub plots within the main story, therefore a lot of detail, but at no point do you lose the rhythm or the main points of the story. All these aspects have been very well and cleverly intertwined to give the reader a great reading experience. It incorporates scandal, war crimes, Nazism, corruption and revenge. The characters have been very well-developed, they are strong and well described. I thought all the charcters mentioned were easily identifiable and memorable.
The story begins with Daniel and Jacob Kudrow, they are prisoners of Gross-Rosen concentration camp. When the reader first meets them they are in a collapsed tunnel, but along with other prisoners and guards they are able to use side tunnels to get out. The tunnels are used for storage, several wooden crates have been stored there, it will take over 60 years for the contents to be revealed. Now in 2011 the reader is brought to the main characters. Joe Johnson, a widower with two children, he is of Polish decent. He teams up with Fiona Heppenstall a political journalist with “Inside Track”. They are both attending a campaign rally by David Kudrow. His brother Nathaniel has something to tell both Joe and Fiona, but they never find out what that actually was. With her journalistic interests piqued, Fiona cannot let go the feeling that something is amiss, she enrolls Joe in to help her find the story. They both have a background in war crimes, giving lectures and help bring down those involved in the atrocities. What they unearth with this investigation. There are secrets that have been hidden for decades, they will close certain chapters in the lives of some, bring some form justice to the lives of some and open the flood barriers in lives of others.
I would definitely recommend to readers who like action and adventure, thriller, crime and mystery genres.
As I read past the story I was really pleased to discover that this is the first in a series of books featuring Joe Johnson, and I for one cannot wait to read more. Thoroughly enjoyed this one, and can’t wait for the next, and the next, and the next!

The his action thiller is a captivating novel with a compelling and well written story line. Character development is excellent and I can't wait for Andrew Turpin's second novel. This is a complex and well woven story that spands decades. Evil, justice, redemption, revenge and betrayal what else can you ask for in a novel?

An excellent read, filled with action intrigue, backstabbing, and a good deal of WWII history. This story grabs the reader from the start and won't let go until that final page which hints at future stories of Joe Johnson.
I received an advance reader copy of this book and voluntarily chose to write a review.

This is my honest review of a book I received from the author. I DON'T RECEIVED ANY MONEY TO READ THIS BOOK. ONLY LEAVE AN HONEST REVIEW.
At least I read this book. The premise is not a new one but new is every day. I had some difficult with the characters and the in-plots.
When an author works with so many in-plots be careful that the main doesn't dissolved. That's what happened here the main plot dissolved in salt and water when the in-plots cave. Needs to revise.
The characters at many times more than help were problems with the characteristics the author gave them. Needs to revise.
War Crimes in dramatic "real" scene is always a good theme in a genre but needs to had a firm hand controlling all, the author lost that control. But, not all is lost, Joe had a future with also a character indepth. The effort and the travel gave the author the 4 stars.
I'm very honest with my Reviews, not only for me, the author or other readers, how an author know when did something good or need improvement?
How another reader believe in my review? If I didn't read the book, I don't Review. If the book is good, Review. If the book isn't good, Review.
With that we all benefit, readers, authors & readers searching for something new or special. My opinions are my own.

This well written story will quickly grab your attention and hold it until the last page. I loved the quick action and the smoothness of the writing. I believe much research went into the storyline. I give this book a firm five star rating. I look forward to reading more Joe Johnson stories.

I just finished reading the draft of the above book which was recently sent to me by the author. I must say that I very much enjoyed reading it and although I am not a very good reviewer, I want to say that I enjoyed it so much, I intend to read it again! The story was so engrossing that I found myself speed reading and I'm sure that a second reading will bring to light many details that I missed the first time! Keep up the good work Andrew and I wish for you much success! Larry

I received a copy of “The Last Nazi” from the author and thoroughly enjoyed the book. Andrew Turpin really did his research. Although this is a work of fiction, all the background settings and situations are based on fact.
The book carefully weaves a detailed story that is exciting, thoughtful, and very entertaining. As you get further into it, it becomes harder and harder to put it down.
I have no reservations in recommending “The Last Nazi” and am glad to give it a five star rating.

Interesting plot moved along by realistic characters. In the real world, David Kudrow's withdrawal from the presidential race would have subjected him to massive press investigation. Four stars rather than five because of all the loose ends at the end: Mossad, Watson, gold extracted by Ignacio, and Ignacio.

The Last Nazi is a brilliant novel that spans decades, continents and major historical events. The mysteriously interlinked storylines are well-paced, with good characters and impressively-researched attention to detail.

I received a free copy of this book, but would have paid the going price for it. In fact I would give it a rating of at least a 9. The characters are believable. Since I grew up during this time I remember a good many of the things in the story. It is very accurate and utterly believable. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

It was a page turner that just kept turning corners until you weren't sure who was the good guy and which others were the bad guys. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author.

A great read, has more twists then a country road. If you like a fast paced thriller, full of facts, history, geography, suspense and justice in the end you will love this book. I wouldn't be surprised if they made this into a movie.

Well thought out and written. The historical description of Gross Rosen concentration camp and Joe Johnson's mother's horrific suffering provided an added incentive for him to solve the mysteries and bring the commandant to justice. Exciting to the very last page.

I found this book to be a great read. Although I am too young to know much about the WW1 except what I have read and heard I found this book very interesting. The research that went into this is fantastic.- Adele

Well written and engaging to the end. Well worth the read. While the characters are believable I especially enjoyed that the women were also strong and courageous and not a bunch of women in distress waiting to be
rescued. Write on Mr. Turpin.

Very surprised, I found the book thrilling and could not put it down. Imagined what happened in Poland as very feasable and it set the storyline through the years .
The best book I have read for some time.

Excellent thriller! Geopolitics wherein everyone is chastized. Hard for me to agree that all are equally guilty. What is wrong with vengeance for the Olympics massacre? Looking forward to more from this author.

I just finished reading 'The Last Nazi' and enjoyed it immensely. It transported me back to those times and the hardships which Jews suffered at the hands of Nazis. The book is written beautifully and once one starts reading it is difficult to put it down. It reads like a thriller. Eagerly awaiting your next book.

I purchased this book because it looked very promising. The opener was great. Then it started along the path of bias and a corrupt American government trying to align itself with today's government issues and leans left from there. Didn't finish the book. Gave it to our charity book store. Maybe some progressive will find it interesting.

Fast paced, interesting topic, and a historical novel of WWII which I love. I do object to the blatant anti-democratic views expressed many times in this book especially in the unbelievably shocking, immoral, and terrifying inexperience and inadequacy of a Trump presidency. Tara White
