Mans' cruelty and mans' nobility is depicted clearly. All should be required to read this historic account. It will serve as a shield against tyranny and a warning about the manipulation of the masses, and so much more. Leon Uris is a writers writer.

After all these years I re-read this fantastic novel with it's historic background and still loved it. The author goes to great lengths to show the insidious methods used by Nazi Germany against the Poles to make the Jews look less than human and ease the conscience of a conquered nation that did not step up and protect it's Jewish citizens and the bravery of the Jews in such horrendous circumstances. A great read!

A mesmerizing and horrifying story about the Nazi prison camps, and what the Allies found when they were liberated. A study of how much barbarism humans are capable of, and the perversion of the "master race" attempt to "improve the breed" (and rule the world).

Clear but hard story of the depiction of the Jewish ghetto in Warsaw during WW I I . The hardships that they went through and the Terrible deaths. The uprising at the end which also was the end of it all was actually uplifting as it showed the spirit of those back into a corner. Good read but a cruel story.

We are traveling to Warsaw this Spring and I wanted to re--read this book before going--especially since we will visit all the places the talk about in this book. It's an amazing story, and Leo Uris does his research, so it really is based on the actual events.

I first read Uris's masterpiece fifty years ago. This fictional, historic novel takes each of us into the Warsaw Ghetto as the Nazi's began the extermination of the Polish Jews. This is a powerful, epic novel of heroism as only Leon Uris can tell it! A must read!

The Warsaw uprising is a study in human good against the evil of Naziism. I was so proud of these people fighting the heartbreaking battle that saved human dignity. I even read their story on the internet. Absolutly awesome story & people...and true.

Great book. Leon Uris is an amazing author. His research makes this book feel like a true story. Gives you insight in to those heroic Jewish Fighters mindset, as well as that of there depraved enemy. It shows what what selfishness and apathy can do to the world.

Cannot believe had not read this particular Leon Uris. Gritty, tragic story of Warsaw ghetto uprising, day to day lives of Polish Jews imprisoned in Warsaw Ghetto and glimpses of humanity as well the immense will to survive and tell the story!

Having just returned from Poland--including visits to Warsaw and Krakow (Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camps) , I felt compelled to re-read this classic. Well-written and true to life events. Highly recommended for those who never read it at first printings.

Good depiction of life in Warsaw during the Nazi occupation, but the characters tend to be one dimensional and representative of types of people rather than well crafted individuals. Having said that, I got the book for the purpose of understanding life at the time of the occupation, and the book does a good job at that.

Leon Uris is the master of gripping the reader and twisting your heart inside out. One note on this book, the print is exceptionally small, take this into account when ordering if you have trouble with small print.
