When I heard Pam Godwin was writing a student/teacher book, I jumped for joy. I love forbidden love stories and I love this author so I was fairly certain this would be a win for me. Every Pam Godwin book I read, I’m shocked by the beauty in her words and the stunning stories she writes. I’ve come to the conclusion that by now I should just be used to it. This is the fifth book I’ve read by this author and all of them have been fantastic 5-star reads. Friends- if you haven’t read this author you really need to! Don’t put it off! All her books are great. You can’t go wrong no matter what you chose.

Ivory is a seventeen-year-old girl going into her senior year at a prestigious music school. She many not belong there in a lot of ways- she lives in poverty while everyone else drives new cars, but she has one thing most of them don’t. Sheer talent. She is a protege piano player. She’s worked under the same teacher for the last three years. Now that teacher has retired, a new one took her place. His name is Emerick Marceaux. Emerick is there for one reason and one reason alone. His past has made it difficult for him to find teaching jobs, but this opportunity opened up to him so he’s going to take it.

Emerick and Ivory have this connection when they first meet. You can feel that zap between them. Ivory has been with a lot of men- but I never judged her. If anything, my heart completely broke for her situation. But not one of them has made her feel the way Mr. Marceaux makes her feel with just a look. Just a touch. And he isn’t immune to Ivory, either. Emerick can’t mess up the opportunity this job has allowed, but as time goes on, Ivory becomes more important to him than anything. Even his job.

You may think you’ve read one student/teacher romance, you’ve read them all. It’s not the case here. This was a unique situation. I know the H/h ages may be a little more taboo than some like (17 and 27) but once you read it and understand their situation, I’m fairly certain most won’t be bothered one bit by it. I know I wasn’t. Ivory was very mature for her age. She had so much strength and determination. Times in her life it would be so easy to just give up but she never did. And Emerick… there was something about this man! I couldn’t get enough of him. I loved how strongly and fiercely he felt about Ivory. He would do anything for her and she hasn’t had that type of love, loyalty or devotion in a long time. These two were perfect for one another.

If you enjoy a good forbidden love story or a student/teacher book- pick this one up! If you’re looking for a well written, sexy, dark (at times) all-consuming romance, this is the book for you! Pam Godwin’s writing is out of this world good and I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone! 5 stars!

Ivory is a prodigy and attending the most elite music school in the state, Le Moyne Academy. She may be the most talented pianist there, but she doesn’t fit in with it with her super wealthy classmates. It isn’t just Ivory's socioeconomic class that separates her from the other students. It’s the circumstances surrounding her life and what she does to survive. See Ivory is a fighter and she has given up everything and pieces of herself to continue her education.

Ivory’s story and POV is delivered so well I didn’t judge her actions, but truly felt for her. My heart broke for her when seeing the things she had to endure, but I love perseverance in a character.

Emeric is new to Le Moyne Academy and Ivory’s new teacher. Emeric is such an intense character and from the very beginning I was intimidated by him. I had no idea how things would go between he and Ivory, because she is a fighter and he refuses to lose.

As it turns out I actually ended up completely loving Emeric. I loved how protective he was of Ivory. I love how before I knew anything about him I knew he was still just a good guy doing the right thing. As the story progressed and their connection deepened I loved his selflessness and desire to truly give Ivory her dreams and desires.

What I truly loved the most about this story was the character growth and how it fit perfectly with the sexy, forbidden plot. I love student/teacher romances, but I usually find myself let down that they are not as forbidden as I wish they were. This was not the case here. I swear there were moments in this story that were so freaking hot. I am not referring to the sex scenes alone, just the build up and slow burn was so freaking hot.

This story is not what I expected, it’s honestly more. I was thinking we would have a hot, sexy read and forbidden love story, but it is also so emotional. I loved the feels and love between Emeric and Ivory. I loved the twists and turns, and how the plot moved so quickly and I couldn’t wait to turn the page.

If you are a fan of Pam Godwin, student/teacher romances or just looking for a sexy, entertaining read I absolutely recommend!

*** I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ***

Dark Notes by Pam Godwin was a captivating read. I adored Ivory, and my heart went out to her as I started to discover what she had suffered and what she was going through just to try and keep her dream and love of playing music alive. She was broken, but at the same time a fighter with great determination.

"At seventeen, I don't know a lot about the world, but I find that being unwanted and unhappy is harder to endure than having nothing to eat”

I like Emeric and at first, I didn’t want too as I questioned his actions towards Ivory, but the was just something about him his charisma, he was captivating with his words and actions. By the ended I loved him especially for all the things he did and was willing to do for Ivory. Their connection was emotional, deep, intense, and strong. Their interactions were hot, kinky, controlled, musical, and passionate.

“She’s in my veins, fiery and weightless. She’s in my head, like a whisper of promise. She’s in my heart softening it, mending it, and making it pump again”

“Just looking at him feels like I’m inhaling a lungful of fire. Because he’s dangerous, and he seems to know this too”

As a teacher/ student story, I did have preconceived ideas about how I thought the story was going to go. Yes, it is a forbidden loved story, but it more than that. Therefore for the most part the storyline was different from what I was expecting.

“Christ, this girl... She's my music, my place in this life, my part in it all”

Pam’s writing style, her characters, the twists and turns, the emotions, and wanting to know how it was going to end for Ivory and Emeric sucked me in from start to finish.

"This brutal man is my home. His hell is my heaven. I’m his Ivory, and he’s my darkest note. No matter what happen, I will never resent this. I will never regret him"

If you like Pam Goodwin, student/teacher romances, forbidden and love dark stories then I recommend you read Dark Notes as I thoroughly enjoyed this it.

After Fifty Shades of Grey and the influx of dark brooding alpha- males that followed, I really thought I had my fill of those kinds of heroes.

But reading Dark Notes just reminded me how much I have missed reading about a controlling, sexy, dark man. One, I might add, that didn't make me feel the need to roll my eyes or gag (because I've had my fair share of those as well).

I can't even begin to describe how incredibly poetic, beautiful, and romantic this whole story was. ESPECIALLY Emeric's POV. I went back and re-read his passages over and over because I just could not get enough. I highlighted almost every single thought and thing this man said.

Dark Notes tells the story of Ivory - an aspiring musician who is extremely gifted in playing piano. But while she excels at school, her home life is in disarray. She has to resort to some seedy arrangements with her classmates to help support her drug addicted mother and brother. Ivory has a really awful and heart breaking past. One that was really hard to read about. But she holds such a positive attitude in spite of it all and just focuses on reaching her goals.

In her last year at school, she is assigned to a new music teacher, Emeric Marceaux - A unconventional teacher who curses, plots revenge on anyone who crosses him, and has no problem using his own special form of punishment when Ivory messes up and doesn’t shy away from the wicked thoughts he has of her.

But as he realizes his attraction for her is going nowhere and begins to teach Ivory, he feels an all-encompassing need to protect her, help her, and love her. And what follows is a crazy romantic ride, filled with twists and turns, insanely sexy encounters, and some really dark moments they both need to overcome.

“Ivory’s an intoxicating dream, the kind that visits a man at night, veiled by the darkness of dusk and safely pursued in the secret corners of the mind. But in daylight, she’s a dangerous fantasy, tempting a man to do things with his eyes wide open.”

“She’s in my veins, fiery and weightless. She’s in my head, like a whisper of promises. She’s in my heart, softening it, mending it, and making it pump again.”

“It’s as if every fiber of my being is tied to hers, and every movement she makes moves me, pulling me closer, deeper. I never stood a chance.”

“I’ve never wanted anyone the way I want her. Not just her body. I want everything. SHE is the strongest emotion I’ve ever felt.”

DO YOU SEE?!?!?

The love, affection, and overwhelming need he had to take care of Ivory are what made me fall head over heels in love with this story. Add in the poetic writing and Ivory's amazing strong willed character, and this was a definite winner. There are some rather dark moments in here, but they were lightened by the sarcastic and humorous dialogue and some crazy romantic scenes.

I can’t stress enough how much I enjoyed this and how beautiful Pam's writing is. Anyone who is a fan of forbidden romance, well actually just ROMANCE in general, needs to add this to their TBR.

That was beautiful, heart breaking and scorching hot. Drak Notes was not my first Pam Godwin book, but still I was surprised by the quality of her writing and her ability to really captivate me with a slightly dark forbidden love story. Really pleasantly surprised.

Dark Notes is a standalone student-teacher book, with some darker elements, such as abuse and BDSM. It’s not too severe, but the heroine has a history of sexual abuse and the relationship between Ivory and Emric is definitely D/s.

Let’s talk story...

Ivory has a gift. She is one of the best piano players of her age. She goes to a rather fancy high school for the arts, but her education comes with a lot of sacrifices. Her tuition was paid for by her father years ago, but since his death her family lives in complete poverty and to make ends meet Ivory has found other ways to pay the bills for her absentee mother and her abusive brother. To say the last years have been a struggle is an understatement. I was hurting for her just reading about it.

But things start to look up. A new school year brings her a new mentor and musical studies teacher. Mr. Emric Marceaux, a man who has fallen from grace at his last school. His sexual proclivities came to light and he was half thrown out of his job. Le Moyne is his last chance and he intends to keep a clean slate.

That is until he sees Ivory. From the first moment she steps foot into his classroom there is an undeniable attraction between the two. Both have a very hard time ignoring the chemistry, but a lot is at stake for both their futures. What could possibly go wrong?

Dark Notes is written in dual POV. And I have to say the first chapter in Emric's voice really sold me on the story and Ms. Godwin's writing. Both viewpoints have very distinct voices, but the scene when Emric first talks with the school dean gave me goosebumps. He is a very enigmatic and decisive character. For all intents and purposes the evil bad boy, but once he really sees Ivory's struggle he becomes this knight in shining armour and it is glorious. If you are looking for a really well written alpha male you might want to check this one out. Ivory is equally amazing as a character. Resilient, in charge of her own life and determined to make her dreams come true.

I can't mention enough how much I love the poetic writing in this book. I was reading very slowly so I could savour every word, really immerse myself in this beautiful story and on top of that I loved the way she used music to describe the journey.

Really a well rounded book all around. Sexy, poignant, scorching hot and so very moving. I'm a new fan.

Let me start off by saying, this is a really good book. Pam Godwin did an excellent job weaving this tale. Her characters are strong, the storyline is strong.

Ivory is a high school girl, from the wrong side of the tracks, I mean the way wrong side of the tracks. After an earth shattering tragedy takes place in her life, it's like a snowball effect; it's one horrible thing after another. Nobody believes her, they blame her. Ivory has a dream, the same dream that meant the world to the one person she mattered too. As a student at the prestigious Le Moyne, performing arts high school, Ivory will do anything, I mean anything, to graduate and make her dream a reality.

Emeric comes from wealth, he's never wanted for anything in his life. He's had the best education, his parents have made it known that they are proud of him and that he is loved. He's one of the best piano players in the world and ten years Ivory's senior. After an incident at the last high school he taught at, that wasn't all his doing, he accepts a bribe to work at Le Moyne. When a girl, that looks more like a woman walks into his classroom, will he risk another black mark on his record for love?

Now, what brought this book down from a 5 star rating for me; insta love, I can't do insta love. I know this is a work of fiction, but come on, that just doesn't happen. Dark Notes is a really good book, it just didn't grab me and keep me invested.

There are triggers that will make some readers uncomfortable, I highly recommend you read with caution.

Wow! I read this book like I drink water, slow and deliberate with the intent of quenching my ravaging thirst for a HEA. I love forbidden teacher-student romances, Dark Notes takes the genre a step further into the darker underlying theme of overcoming adversity and finding salvation in a private world of dark notes and dreams.

Emeric Marceaux started his new teaching job at an elite, and expensive performing arts high school but it comes with a stipulation. He accepts the position because no one else is willing to hire him. Emeric has no financial need to work, he chooses to work to feed his ego.

"This isn't a job. It's a creditable use of my need to influence and dominate, a place where I can discipline weaknesses, mold trustful minds, and inspire students with my passion for music."

Emeric finds himself pushing one student in more ways than one.

Ivory Westbook is an underprivileged student who attends Le Moyne because of her Father. Her Father is now deceased and she fights daily to keep her family a float so she can continue her pursuit in attending a prestigious music college. Emeric holds the key to her entrance and maybe also her heart.

Dark Notes is an intense story following the relationship between teacher-student, dominate-submissive and lovers in the end. There's a dark cloud over their relationship with the fear of being caught. They both carry secrets with them that could end their relationship when confronted. The story deals with heavy subjects, be advised. Dark Notes is well written, it rattled me and comforted me at the same time. 5 Stars!

This story is a student/teacher forbidden romance and is about passion, trust, love, and music; It's emotional, arousing, captivating, gritty, dark, and heartbreaking which bounds them together. Ivory is a talented musician that loves playing the piano and wants to go to a top college and pursue her music carrier. She's a girl from the wrong side of the tracks that's damage, but is trying everyday to accomplish her goal and to survive. Emeric is a music teacher that's ten years older than Ivory, and he is an alpha male/dominant that loves to make his submissive cry, but also like to nurture and show how giving pain can bring healing.

Their first week of meeting each other is so intense you can feel the sexual tension, and you just want to fan yourself. The chemistry is hot! The sex scene are even hotter. I really enjoyed how both characters connected to each other.
I was hooked from the start, I literally could not put this one down, but I also didn't want it to end. Some of the scenes had me swooning, crying and holding my breath throughout it. I am speechless with this book.....So intense, I can feel it!

Favorite quotes;

"There's not an audience in the world big enough to contain you. But you need one passionate enough to hold you"

"You taste dirty, Ivory In the most agreeable delicious, additive sense of the world."

"We aren't just a teacher and student, a Dom and submissive, a man and woman. We're a timeless concerto. A musical masterpiece."

I'm a big fan of Forbidden love stories, but I'm a bigger fan when is done right and Pam Godwin did a great job. I highly recommend this book! One the best teacher/student romance books. Is Perfect read of a forbidden love story, is well told and Pam Godwin does an amazing job of blending this really rather taboo love story. Showing the parallels between Ivory and Emeric, how seamlessly intertwined they are.

Dark Notes is a beautiful story about love and control, trust and patience, music and harmony.

Pam's words are always so captivating. They swoop you up and carry you through her worlds, through her stories and through the hearts of her characters, no matter how damaged or dark they may be. And this book is no different.

Ivory is a gifted pianist. She's poor, damaged, scared and alone but she's also determined.

Emeric is also a gifted pianist but he's 10 years older than Ivory... and he's her new teacher. He grew up in a life of wealth and privilege but he's also got his secrets.

When their two lives intertwine you can't help but root for them and fall into the intense sexual chemistry between them. (HOT DAMN the sex scenes in this book are scorching and explosive!) You can't help but hope Ivory will be saved from the hell that she's living and you want Emeric to be her dark and dominating hero.

I think this is the SWEETEST story Pam Godwin has ever written but don't let that fool you... it still carries the dark and twisted edge that we've all come to love about her books. OH! and it might also be the HOTTEST!! (Okay maybe ONE of the hottest because Dirty Ties... and Beneath the Burn... and Vanquish...)

Some Favorite Quotes:

Christ, this girl... She's my music, my place in this life, my part in it all.

"You're mine. That means every inch of your gorgeous body, every thought in your head, and every word out of your mouth impacts me. Calling yourself dirty or any other offensive adjective is an insult to my girl, something I will not tolerate. Tell me you understand."

Men who praise and promise are the ones who hurt the most.

"This is who I am, Ivory, and you are the essential and most important part of me"... "Now bend over."

5 Crazy Ass Must Read Stars!!!!!

Holy &#*!, this was soooo gooood! (Yeah, that's censored)
I was immediately intrigued by this book when I got the signup for the release. How could I refuse? A dark read and forbidden romance. Crap, a student/teacher one at that. My favorite guilty pleasure wrapped in a shroud of darkness. Very intriguing, indeed.
I enjoyed this read. It had me hooked from the first page. My heart broke for Ivory with all the things she went through. Emeric was a little harder sell for me but I eventually warmed to him. I liked the way the story went and it's grittiness. It was a fresh spin on this subgenre.

5++++++ STARS!!!!!!!!!!!

HOLY WOW. Seriously, I'm not even sure how to describe the way I'm feeling after finishing Dark Notes by Pam Godwin. It is SIMPLY THAT GOOD. Dark Notes is for sure one of my new all-time favorites! I absolutely LOVED this story from beginning to end. I was mesmerized by the plot line, the characters, the emotions. Pam Godwin has created a true masterpiece with Ivory and Emeric's story.

This was not the first student-teacher story I've read, however it is absolutely without a doubt one of the best and most intense. Ivory and Emeric's story is so much more than a typical love story; so much more than just the hot teacher falling for his hot young student. Dark Notes is a story of survival, both Ivory's and Emeric's. It is a story of love and passion. And most importantly, it is a story of strength. The author captures this perfectly by letting the reader become intimately acquainted with these characters' thoughts and feelings through the alternate POVs. I fell in love with both main characters right from the beginning and wanted nothing more than to help them find the HEA they so very much deserved.

I've read other books by Pam Godwin but this is by far my favorite. The writing is exquisite; her words flow seamlessly and capture every bit of emotion her characters experience throughout the story. Like a beautifully written symphony, this book takes the reader on a journey they won't soon forget. Everything just felt so real, so raw. My emotions were all over the place, I had tears in my eyes often, and for me this is the sign of a truly awesome book. When I find myself thinking about the story and the characters while going about my day, I know I've found something special. Ivory and Emeric became a part of my life and I miss them dearly. Their story was difficult at times, their hardships almost seemed too much to bear, but in the end I cried tears of joy. Everything worked out just the way I had hoped (and sort of predicted in my head). I couldn't ask for a better ending.

I cannot end this review without first mentioning the element of HOTNESS that Dark Notes brings with it. Emeric is just so awesome but it's so much more than just his good looks and wealth. His true character shines through in a way that made my heart ache for him; he deserved goodness and happiness. And Ivory gives that to him. In the same way, he gives her the courage and the strength she already possesses but just doesn't realize is there. Their sex scenes are off the charts and at the same time incredibly beautiful. They are so perfectly written, each one hotter and more moving than the next.

Thank you Pam Godwin for bringing this amazingly awesome story to life; for giving us Ivory and Emeric (and Schubert) and all the beauty of their musical world. I'm a fan for life and cannot wait to see what you have in store for your readers next.

I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

First off I want to mention that this story may have triggers for some people due to rape and nonconsensual sex. There is some graphic violence and animal cruelty.

Let's start with the cover. It’s just a little misleading. The girl on the cover looks blonde. The truth is, the girl in the story, Ivory, is a mulatto with freckles, brown eyes, and straight dark hair. That’s a hard combination to find let alone find a stock photo of such a girl playing a piano. That aside Ms. Godwin did an awesome job composing her cover. Once you read the story you realize just how much detail from the story there is in the cover art.

The story is told in alternating POV between Ivory and her teacher, Emeric Marceau, who is 10 years her senior. I felt that this book targeted a slightly younger audience than most books I read do because Ivory is only 17. But I could still relate because I too was a “child” with an older lover. The story takes place in New Orleans. Ivory is an abused and neglected child with a musical gift for piano. She has a woman’s figure that is a detriment to her existence in the harsh world she comes from. She has hopes to one day be accepted to a prestigious music school in New York, but comes from the wrong side of town. Before he died her father enrolled her in a local high school for the arts. This is where she meets her new instructor, Mr. Marceau, who teaches her far more than music. He’s a piano virtuoso who some might think is wasting his time teaching. Mr. Marceau is “shockingly beautiful.” He’s a badass alpha. He’s rich. He’s perfect.

I loved this story on so many levels. Pam Godwin is one of my very most favorite authors. Her writing is extraordinary. Her story telling is amazing. Even though this was an advanced reading copy still requiring editing, only a handful of typos could be found. She is meticulous in all of her work. I am not sure how much Ms. Godwin already knew about piano playing or how much research she had to do but the detail that she goes into about it is wonderful. Little things like Ivory’s father having synesthesia are alluded to. Many musicians have this yet few people who don’t have it even know about it. The story reminds me of the movie “Flashdance”. If you’ve seen this movie you’ll know what I mean. I love how smart, sneaky, and conniving Emeric Marceau is.

The story also comes with a playlist which I was so excited to see at the end. I thought I was going to have to go back through the book and create my own.

Dark Notes by Pam Godwin
Emeric & Ivory
5 STARS

I loved it! I can't stop this tingling feeling I have in my body just thinking about these two beautiful characters. I think every time Pam publishes a book, I secretly go bonkers inside! In my heart.. I know it's going to be good, I know I'm going to fall in love with her characters, and I know it'll be nothing like her previous work! Dark Notes is beautiful in every sense. It's arousing. It's amusing. And it's got an uber dark storyline. Mmmm, my fave!

Emeric Marceaux is the teacher! The teacher from hell! If you cross him, watch out. He never forgets, nor does he forgive. He'll have dirt on you in two seconds flat, so just beware. I liked him in the beginning. He was demanding and audacious, yet there was something about him that kept me from falling completely in love with him right away.... I guess I just needed a little Ivory to smooth out his rough edges and make him lovable for me.

Ivory Westbrook. Wow, this girl was amazeballs! I want to be her when I grow up. Although if I had to go through half the stuff she went through I probably would have died before I could have reached my 18th birthday. Daily turmoil and this chick kept her chin held high. She never lost site of her prize. The prize may have changed a time or two, but she never gave up. I. Love. Her.

The supporting character cast wasn't too large. We have villains and more villains. Bwahahaha. Just kidding. Let's see there was Ivory's fellow students who seemed to be semi ok if you don't count the ones paying her to do their homework. Those punks are jerks! Ivory's brother and the brother's friend Lorenzo... holy hell, these two need a high five, in the face, with a chair! And Emeric's parents... Not much dialogue, for these two but their actions spoke volumes.

This was of course excellent! What book has Pam ever written that isn't excellent? None! The storyline drew me in before I ever opened the book. The teasers sold me on this book! The characters were powerful and intoxicating, I fell for them immediately. The dialogue flowed very effortlessly and felt natural. The pacing was perfect and kept me glued to my kindle. Pam created just the right amount of tension throughout, and the climax was superb. Wonderful story Pam! I loved it!

**An eARC was provided by author in exchange of an honest review**

I honestly have no idea where to start this review. When I saw the blurb of Dark Notes, I knew immediately I wanted to read it. I've read a few books by Pam Godwin before, and I loved her writing style, so I knew this book was gonna be good. I just didn't know how good.

From the first page, Dark Notes took me on an emotional ride that gripped my heart, my attention and my brain. I could not think or concentrate on anything that wasn't this book. Ivory is a poor girl going to an elite school, and with her family in shambles, she has no one to depend on but herself. Abused by everyone around her, she clings to the only thing that brings her comfort. Music. It's her dream and her ticket out and she's going to do everything to get it. Ivory is a strong character. I loved her from the start, and as the story progressed, I found myself liking her more. She was dealt a bad hand in life, her family wasn't much of a family and the rest of the world seemed to take too much from her, but she took everything thrown at her and turned it into determination for a better life. Her sad life wrapped around me until I could feel nothing but her emotions.

Then there is Emeric. I've read about a lot of alpha-males, and about more as*holes, but no one can compare to him. He's the new music teacher with a bad reputation and worse intentions. In the start of the book, he pissed me off, and I was dreading what his presence at the school meant. He is strong, commanding and mean, but the second he sets eyes on Ivory, something big starts simmering between the two. Seeing him go from an as*hole to a protective one that would stop at nothing to keep Ivory out of harms way made my heart beat faster than ever and I completely fell in love with him. There was so much at stake for both of them, but he wasn't letting anything keep Ivory away from him. He is the kind of man that you don't control or try to play, because he is already ten steps ahead of you.

The build up to their relationship was one of the best I've read. I could feel the heat and intensity of it coming to life in the pages, and I had no idea what turn things would take or how it would go that way. The only thing I knew was I wanted to keep reading as things progressed and emotions got involved. It was raw and gritty and every page burned hot with sexual tension, simmering emotions and the uncertainty of everything else.

Dark Notes is one of favourite reads this year and its also one of my all time favourite books. It's addictive with its erotic intensity, emotional roller coaster and suspense.

When I first learned that Pam Godwin was going to write a student/teacher romance, I was over the moon. It immediately made its way to the top position on my TBR list. Being a huge fan of her previous books, I knew that she would be able to put her own dark spin on it to make it stand out amongst the other books in the genre. I was neither wrong, nor disappointed. This is not merely the tale of two lovers who are forbidden to be together due to their ages and roles in society, this is the story of two people who despite their ages and roles in society do deserve to be together.

Ivory Westbrook wasn’t born of privilege or circumstance. She is a girl who had a dream to be something in the world, to be a musician- a pianist, who would make her father proud and would melt the hearts of her adoring audience. Life hasn’t been kind to Ivory. Dealing with the loss of the one person in her life who understood her and knew her talent, motivation, and capability to succeed in the highly competitive world of music hasn’t been easy on her.

I loved Ivory from the first moment I stepped inside of her thoughts. She was an intelligent girl, a girl who could have the whole world at her doorstep if she was just given the opportunity. With her bright smile and her confident demeanor, she owned every room that she entered – despite her less than polished appearance. She was pure talent and enthusiasm. She was someone who earned her way in life by merit and talent, not by the lineage by which she was born.

Ivory did the best with what she had. She did what she had to in order to survive in her impoverished community. While some would criticize her for her means of survival, she did what she had to do, not only for herself, but for the family who had turned their backs on her four years ago. The ordeals that Ivory had to endure were truly gut-wrenching and horrific. My heart broke repeatedly for her.

Ivory had one goal in life. She was going to graduate from Le Moyne and attend Leopold, the top music college in the United States. She knew in her heart that she had the talent and the potential, she just needed to successfully obtain her high school diploma without any misconduct tarnishing her records.

All of her hard work was paying off, until she met her new music teacher and mentor, Emeric Marceaux. While he was brought onto the payroll of Le Moyne with one goal in mind, his goals became blurred as he became acquainted with his new prodigy, Ivory Westbrook.

Sweet mother of all things sinful…the connection and attraction that they had was scorching. Emeric was well aware that getting involved with one of his students would end his career, but his desire for her overpowered his judgement.

Emeric’s demeanor was confident, self-assured, and in complete control. He was a commanding force in his classroom as well as his bedroom. But with Ivory’s painful history with sexual experiences, Emeric was walking a fine line between what he could offer her and what would be too much for her. Emeric walked that fine line like a master tightrope walker, giving her just what she needed, while playing her body like the finest instrument.

While Emeric was a dominant character, what I really enjoyed was seeing the softer side of him. His softer, caring, protective side shone through as much as his commanding side. This only made me like him that much more. As a reader, I never doubted his intentions or his true feelings for Ivory. It was evident that he was more than willing to do whatever was necessary to protect her and ensure her happiness. Emeric may have had his own flaws and secrets, but he was everything that Ivory needed - he was her knight in slightly tarnished armor.

Dark Notes provided the perfect balance of emotions. With all of the darker elements that this book had, it was equally as touching. I felt all of the emotions right along with the characters; I felt their chemistry, their pain, I fell in love, and experienced the thrill of their illicit romance. I was completely invested in the characters and the story from beginning to end. It was everything that I could’ve hope for and so much more.

*I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

A dark student-teacher romance is not something you come across often. In fact, I’m not sure I’ve ever read one. I don’t read a lot of dark romances, and student-teacher hookups involving minors make me hesitant. The synopsis for Dark Notes intrigued me, though, and the performing artist in me loved the fact that the book incorporates music. I decided to give it a go, and the payoff was well worth the risk.

Ivory Westbrook is a 17 year-old piano protégé. She’s able to attend an elite performing arts high school even though she lives in abject poverty. Her circumstances are dire, heartbreaking, and she’s forced to endure unimaginable cruelty every day. She’s a survivor who is well beyond her years in terms of life experience. Ivory is determined to escape her situation by graduating from high school and attending the top music college in the US with a full scholarship. She only needs the recommendation of her piano teacher.

Unfortunately for Ivory, her mentor and advocate has been replaced by Emeric Marceaux, an intimidating yet attractive new piano teacher with a scandalous past. The two clash on the first day of school, but his commanding presence draws her in. He’s ten years older, and he has an overwhelming desire to possess her and mold her to his will. Eventually, the initial spark between them turns into an absolute inferno.

Emeric is a dominant who is harsh, but also incredibly nurturing. It’s Ivory’s battle against her brutal situation—which does include a trigger alert—rather than the BDSM aspect of her relationship with Emeric that makes this a dark novel. There’s definitely some kink, but I consider Dark Notes to be BDSM lite. If you’re unfamiliar with the practice, this book is a fairly gentle introduction. In fact, it helped me better understand how a submissive can truly gain a sense of power in this type of arrangement. Even Fifty Shades of Grey didn’t do that for me.

Other than the reader, Ivory has virtually nobody on her side until she meets Emeric. That fact, coupled with his protective nature, and her level of maturity, had me willing to look past their ages and actively root for the couple. Erotic doesn’t begin to describe their affair. However, their connection transcends sex and I found that to be incredibly appealing.

“I’ve never wanted anyone the way I want her. Not just her body. I want her everything. She is the strongest emotion I’ve ever felt.”

At times I felt like Emeric takes unreasonable risks when they’re supposed to be keeping their illicit relationship under wraps. It almost made me take off a half star from my rating. However, his actions add an extra layer of excitement and seem very much in keeping with his passionate, domineering, and confident personality.

Dark Notes is an intoxicating story filled with angst, seduction, and compassion. This is the first book I’ve read by Pam Goodwin, but it certainly won’t be the last.

Dark Notes By Pam Godwin
*ARC received for honest review*

I did not know what to expect from this author being that this is first book I've read from her. Ivory Westbrook is from the wrong side of town. With hand me down clothes and shoes that are falling apart she attends a private school for the musically gifted kids. Having being dealt the worst had at life, losing someone she loved unconditionally, a mother and brother who does nothing but tear her down she still wakes up every day determined to get out of Treme. Doing what she needs to do stay in school Ivory risks her chance with every favor to keep her bills paid and supplies needed for school. All Ivory needs to do is survive her senior years and impress her new teacher. Emeric Marceaux has his own shady past. After being a Dean at a previous school and a scandal erupting he goes back to what he enjoys most, teaching students. With a teaching job at a new school and an arrangement made with the dean Emeric is ready to teach. When Ivory and Emeric meet for the first time she is mistaken for a teacher. After realizing those hat she is his student Emeric can not stop thinking about all the things he wants to do with her. Seeing darkness and fear in her eyes he wants to know everything. With so much at stake they both can lose it all or gain more than they could ever imagine.

I loved loved loved this book!!! The forbidden student/teacher relationship and the things Emeric does to Ivory. I was hooked from the beginning. Pulling for Ivory to become stronger and not let the past break her. Swooning at Emeric's firm hand in all things he does with Ivory. This book made me wish I was an musician student with a teacher like him!!! I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoy a good teacher/student read. I am looking forward to reading more of her books.

Dark Notes is an erotic and forbidden story - an affair between 17 year old music prodigy Ivory Westbrook and her piano teacher, Mr Emeric Marceaux. If there is one thing Pam Godwin can deliver, it's a tantalising tale of super hot dirty sex to go alongside a fantastic and well thought out plotline.

Ivory is a student at Le Moyne, a very expensive school that specialises in performing arts. Her speciality is the piano, but her extreme talent is often looked over by her snobby classmates and head teacher, for the simple fact that she is poor and from the wrong side of town.

I immediately connected with this feisty and sassy heroine from the get-go, she was such a survivor and mature beyond her years. When she meets the highly sexual and intensely alpha Mr Marceaux and discovers that he will be tutoring her daily for four hours, alone - she knows that he is going to change her life just by his commanding presence.

Emeric is immediately drawn to Ivory, and his protective streak gets tested early on when he realises that she is barely surviving in her dark and unfair world. He is a man who knows what he wants and makes no excuses.

I absolutely loved these two together, they were a perfect match and despite the 10 year age difference they fit so well together and needed each other in different ways. The chemistry between them was almost too intense, I loved how the author dragged out these moments, and didn't rush anything.

Emeric's parents were a fabulous addition to the story, and it made such a refreshing change to read about a hero who has such dark tastes but comes from such a normal and well-balanced family.

A super sexy read with a suspenseful plot and great characters with depth. Loved it.

Dark Notes is a standalone dark and forbidden romance, told in dual POV

Ivory was leaving in a nightmare.. her life was a mess, her father died leaving her with something that will cause so much hate and trouble for her.. she was only 17, a survivor of a rough life.. she was only 13 when her life started to crash and fall apart.. her dreams are, to be the best pianist in the world.. to study in one of the best Music schools in New York but a lot people are against that dream .. until she meets him.. her Teacher a handsome talented but "ruthless" men .. he was rough and tender she wanted to meet more of him.. she was scared but at the same time intrigued.. he was the only one that has touched her soul.. he was the only one who held her trust ..

what i loved about Ivory was that we get to see the evolution of her characters.. in the beginning she was like a wild cat, defending herself, her life at all cost.. she was some how innocent despiste her circumstances.. but then as the months go by her transformation is slowly and beautifully shown ..

Emeric a very handsome Talented Piano teacher.. he was an Alpha, Dominant male with a reputation that he didn't care.. he was careless but at the same time always in control.. he was supposed to harm her not to fall for her.. but he couldn't deny anymore his needs and his nature.. she was everything he ever needed, she was a dream come true.. young, delicate and feminine a true submissive.. he was starving for her tears and her tending.. but his past can destroy everything, his deal with someone to break Ivory's dreams can destroy this beautiful love. and lets not forget how sexy and hot he was specially that he is a mega dirty talker ..

This was my first book by Pam Godwin, a good friend kept recommending this book and it was amazing. I really love the way she touches D.s and BDSM she really portraits the life style as it is.. you can see how the Dominant mind of Emeric operated, always possessive, controlling but with so much love and wanting to protect her with all his love... Ivory pleading to serve him and needing him .. it was beautiful to see their relationship as a true Dom and Sub..

I'm looking forward to read more books by Pam Godwin

I could have sat and read this is one day but life gets in the way (sigh)

As for Pam her diabolical mind is still in tact. This book ripped out my heart and shredded it. With sheer brilliance she had me from page one and kept it going full steam throughout. Captivating me with the darkest notes and a tumultuous story that I will not soon forget.

Mr. Marceaux is the kind of teacher my music class's were lacking. His diversity, his intensity, his sexy and wicked ways had me screaming through pages.

While fearing for the safety of Ivory and trusting in a way I certainly couldn't have given her history, her character is strong and able to endure while pushing past limitations and borders that would seem impossible.

This book has definite triggers and should not be approached without some serious warnings. Situations including rape, violence and abuse, if these are triggers for you do not proceed.

Dark Notes is a forbidden love story between student Ivory Westbrook, 17 and Emeric Marceaux, acclaimed pianist and heir to a fortune. Emeric is new to LeMoyne Academy when he meets Ivory Westbrook. She’s a talented pianist and he’s her teacher, and they find they have more in common than just the piano. There’s a synergy between them that just won’t be denied.

Ivory doesn’t exactly fit in with her rich classmates, but she’s got the fight to continue her education despite everything she’s been through. She makes a very sympathetic character and it’s easy to like her for her motivation. Emeric isn’t so easy. Pam writes great alpha-males, and Emeric is no exception. He’s intimidating in many ways at least at first, until the reader begins to understand his deep feelings of protection toward Ivory.

Pam Godwin does a great job with building the sexual tension between these two characters, which helps to straddle the forbidden teacher-student aspects of this story. Pam is a master at character development and she didn’t disappoint me with this story. Her characters are deeply faceted which makes it hard to label them and I love that about Pam Godwin’s creations. How Ivory and Emeric find their common ground through the darkness kept me turning the pages.

Some of this was a bit predictable, but that didn’t detract from the story for me. I liked the dual POV and I thought it was a necessary element to this story because it helped to understand each of the characters motivation when it came to the forbidden elements of this story. There’s quite a bit of suspense to add to the sexual tension and it all just kept me turning the pages.

I loved it, it over took me and I set life aside to read it once I started.... and then I had to sit back and absorb it all before I could think about reviewing. This book was too good to not review though, so I had to come back for it!

These characters, their story, it kicks you in the gut. That being said, the faint of heart need to stay away, there are things those of us who like the dark, twisted or painful, carry on. It skirts all sorts of lines, and the backstory definitely crosses them, but it shaped and guides our heroine and is so essential. She had a good life, then it all fell apart, and is still cracking, when our hero steps into the scene

From the first contact, he knew it was wrong, he knew he couldn't have her, but he was too far gone from the beginning. While he is trying to figure things out, she is still trying to survive. The deeper he delves, the more he knows, he can't stay away. He has to have her, and his intentions are blurry, but it goes with it and ignores his inner warnings

There are so many things that can go wrong, and they do, with some painful consequences for them both. Their only saving grace is that they have each other, and work through their pain, their anguish, together. Our hero pulls it together in the end, and our heroine comes out as her own person and stronger than ever

The warning, the real warning, is that this book will leave you with a HUGE book hangover! It has been two weeks and I am still a little shaky from it, it left that much of an impact. Ivory broke my heart, with every piece of her life she lived, with everything she revealed, she broke my heart. But through all that, her strength and drive that kept her going, that had me in awe. It also had me completely on board with Emeric's anger and frustration, his lashing out and complete coddling of her whenever he could

Needless to say, I was wiped out by the book and loved every word of it

This is not the typical book I would listen to or read, but it came highly recommended and I had to see what made it special. I was on the edge of my seat, the tension was intense in this story. I was rooting for this couple. Ok, I know some are asking why. Well, isn't it amazing when someone can look beyond our faults and see our needs?

Ivory needed someone like Emeric, someone who could see her true value. I also feared for them, wondering if they would make it through all the barriers that they had to cross. At one point I thought Emeric would be one of those barriers that Ivory would need to leap over, but I was wrong.

Ivory is the kind of girl we get mad at because we think she should make better choices, not knowing that the choices have been taken out of her hands. She is just trying to survive. A girl who is crushed on every side but yet still has hope. I wanted to bring Ivory home with me, I wanted her to know real love. Emeric was AWESOME! At times he was annoying and I thought he was vicious a few times, but those things fit his personality.

I thought the author did an excellent job with this story. I love that she allowed her characters to build trust and understand before they had sex. Also, I'm glad that Pam Godwin did not shy away from some very sensitive topics. The sensitive topics help to make it an interesting and exciting read.

Ps: The narration was superb!

Dark Notes is an outstanding book by Pam Godwin. I've previously read the first two books in her Blood of Eve Trilogy and I loved them too. Pam's writing skills are impeccable and I will always read any book she releases in the future.

Dark Notes is a stand alone.

Ivory Westbrook lives in the slumps of Treme, Louisiana. She attends the prestigious academy of Le Moyne where she plays Piano. Her main focus in life is to be accepted to Leopold Conservatory of New York, the highest ranked music college in America. With Leopold only accepting 3% of applicants each year, Ivory is confident her ability will gain her a place but she has many obstacles to overcome before then.
Her Father has died, her Mother is a Drug addict along with her ex marine brother. His Best friend continually rapes her, she sells herself to pay bills and keep herself at Le Moyne. She has nothing and no one.

A new music teacher arrives, Emeric Marceaux, an previous student of Leopold and a member of the Louisiana Symphony. After being sacked for sexual reasons from his previous job, he's passion for teaching again only comes with certain conditions. Conditions he has accepted.

I can't tell you how much this book blew my mind, it's beautifully written with so much passion and heartache. The music comes to life throughout the pages. You feel it in your soul.

~Nothing is inconceivable, and everything is possible. The proof is in the magic of music.

Gahhhh. Dark Notes was sooooo good. It's not as dark as you would think, though it is based on taboo and darker principles. A sexy student-teacher/bdsm story.
The writing is just phenomenal...not only is it perfectly written and wonderfully edited... the prose itself lends to seriously smooth and effortless reading. The characters are awesome. You can't help but fall for the alluring and oh so sexy Mr. Marceuax. Getting fired from his previous job for getting caught with his pants down, belt around her wrists, tie gagging her...Uhm..Yes Please!
Then there's Ivory Westbrook. Damn, I felt so bad for that girl and everything she's had to go through as well as dealing with her day to day life.
There were so many snippets that resonated with me. I loved the way so much of their relationship alluded to music. From tempo's to beats, to harmony and beyond. The ticking of a watch, the metronome, the heart beats, the rythm. Phenomenal!
~That's when I hear it. The tempo of our breaths. The drum of our heartbeats. The crackle in the air. The exquisite cadence of pulses through me, awakening sensations I've never felt, composing a melody I've never heard. Our hypnotic, dark notes.
Absolutely one of the best reads of the year. 5 Amazing Stars

Dark Notes by Pam Godwin. Ivory is used to being called and treated like a slut. Since her father died her life has been a variable nightmare but her only ray of sunshine is the school she attends because she is musically gifted. If she can just make it through her final year at school and get accepted to the college of her dreams she can leave her miserable life behind. She is an outsider in her school because she is from the wrong side of the tracks and she has to do things she is not proud of to keep a roof over her mother and brother’s head. Her home life is hell along with school but to make matters worse her favorite teacher who was helping her realize her dream has been replaced. Mr. Marceaux is sexy as sin and is the new teacher despite a scandalous departure from his previous employment. When their path cross what happens can have deadly consequences if discovered. This story started off extremely dark and twisted and I was not sure if I was going to be able to get through reading what Ivory had to endure but I am glad I continued with the story . This story did not disappoint. The journey the author took me on was full of ups and downs and real excitement. Dark Notes was well worth the read and you will not be disappointed. I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review. I have to give this story 5 stars.

Instantly sucked in. In my opinion, Dark Notes' beginning was one of the most dismal that I have read from author Pam Godwin. Don’t take that wrong. For my taste, the more dismal the better! If you like books that lean a bit more on the darker side, Dark Notes will fulfill your need. It’s more romantic than dark and has a no frill plot that moves along quickly. Chemistry between Emeric and Ivory was pretty intense. Definitely hot. Couple of things holding Dark Notes back from a 5 star for me was the insta-love, and the lack of buildup with follow through. When a story starts out as dramatic and shocking as this, I expect the plot twists and climatic build (the non-sex kind) to rock me. Instead, Dark Notes dramatic bursts were pretty cut and dry and squashed almost immediately after they started. I just felt like it lacked the rawness it started with. Ivory’s story didn’t lack potential, that’s for certain. I actually found myself skimming through some sex scenes to get to the meat of the story. It was good but not a 5 star for me.
One thing’s for sure, readers will have an instant attraction for Emeric. Ivory’s story is compelling and tragic I just wanted more. Stand alone book without a cliffy. Recommended for someone who wants to venture into a romance book with a bit of edginess.

The anticipation for this book was enough to drive me mad. From the first teaser I saw, I knew it was going to be incredible. I could feel it. Every time I saw a post about it, or if the cover showed up in my feed, I would get the most delicious, little thrill.

No matter what words I write in my review, none of them will do this book justice. How do you put into words a book that had you gripping your kindle tightly – fuming mad one minute, then holding your breath with your heart aflutter the next? It’s been a week since I’ve read it and I still think about Emeric & Ivory and their beautiful & powerful story.

I know when I read a book by this author, I’m going to get quality…everything. Dark Notes is proof of that. The writing is eloquent, beautiful, poetic… the story – emotion-packed, intense, and captivating. The characters are well-developed & strong…with the Ivory & Emeric having chemistry that is off-the-charts scorching hot. You can FEEL the passion the author put into this story and I enjoyed every single word.

I can’t recommend this book enough. Ms. Godwin’s writing takes you away into a world of delicious taboo, knowing it’s wrong, but not caring one single bit. It deserves more than 5 stars.

5 "Captivated" Stars

Scorching. Intense. Dark. Emotional. Forbidden. Utterly captivating.

Dark Notes is a student-teacher standalone that took my expectations and threw them out the window. With it's slow build, palpable sexual tension, and unexpected developments, the blurb only hints at the brilliance that is to come. Pam Godwin wrote a completely unique love story that I could never have expected giving me another book to add to my favorites.

Ivory Westbrook is a 17 year old piano virtuoso from the bad part of town trying to find a way to survive her final year at a prestigious preforming arts prep school. She's got her sights set on graduating and securing an exclusive spot at Leopold, the highest ranking university in the country. But after losing her talented and successful piano playing father at 13, she has become the definition of survivor. With abusive home life including her drug addicted mother and deadbeat older brother, Ivory is both wise beyond her years and yet incredibly innocent. She's been used and abused but with the light at the end of the tunnel, she just has to survive her new piano teacher and mentor Mr. Emeric Marceaux.

Emeric is starting over. After a scandalous exit as dean from his old school, he's teaching again back in his home town. With demons chasing him, he finds Ivory to be everything he could want but completely out of his reach. Fighting his attraction and desire for Ivory is a losing battle and one he doesn't even want to fight. When their chemistry reaches stratospheric levels, Ivory and Emeric embark on a dark and taboo affair that could level them each in turn.

There was nothing I didn't love about this story. As I've read every single book Pam has ever published, I know her to be a brilliantly talented author. This book proved that once again. Dark Notes may be one of her sexiest books to date. Ivory and Emeric were electric together but also so incredibly sweet. The slow burn was paced perfectly leaving with earnest anticipation. The story took unexpected twists and turns and was so beautifully crafted that the development felt real and natural. It included Pam's unique dark twists but in unexpected ways. This may be a student-teacher storyline but it didn't really feel like I was reading about a high school student. There was way more depth in Ivory and Emeric's story than your average taboo relationship. I fell in love with Ivory's strength and Emeric's inner battle and with their wonderfully scripted love story. I didn't want it to end. Pam Godwin has secured her reign as one of my all time favorite authors as she can twist me all up and yet give me exactly what I didn't know I needed.

I was totally consumed by this brutally intense, raw and passionate story of forbidden love and survival. This haunting, dark genre of forbidden love between 17 year old high school senior and her 27 year old music teacher is beautifully explored. Ivory is a high school senior in a prestigious music school. She comes from a family of poverty and despair. Her determination and will to survive, led her to do whatever unspeakable things she had to, to to ensure her graduation, and keeping a roof over her head. She even allowed being called school slut as a means to an end. When she meets newly appointed music teacher Emeric Marceaux, their attraction is instant, but they both know it's forbidden. Or, is it?
This story redefines the rules set by conventional society about relationships. Throughout the story you wonder is this abusive, is it a Dom/Sub situation? Is he her protector and savior or is she using him to get what she needs. Does conventional love that have boundaries. Ivory, and Emeric explore their own psyche as they search the answer to this forbidden, risky and dangerous situation. The extent they're willing to keep their clandestine relationship a secret is soooo worth the read!

Pam Godwin was the author I've always wanted to read but couldn't find the time to. When I heard her new books, Dark Notes, I was on the cloud nine. I made up my mind to start reading her with her latest release. And then, I saw Dark Notes was forbidden romance between teacher and student. So yeah, I was sold.
I've been thinking for hours how to write a review about this book. I'm afraid my review will not do the justice to this book. But, I'll try, really...

Ivory Westbrook was seventeen years old girl who lost her father three years ago. She lived in Treme with her so-called-brother and so-called-mother. At the age of seventeen she's been through so many things.
Things that will make the person bleed inside out...Things that will make the person weaker everyday.
But Ivory was different. She was the living form of "what doesn't kill you make you stronger."

Ivory Westbrook was strong. She was determined, hopeful. She lived her life with a simple motto:
"Everything is possible."

Even though she was poor, abused, lack of affection, lack of love she was standing tall on her own feet. She was innocent in the filthiness around her. And she walked with straight spine, chin-up, eyes ahead. She kept her secret smile on her face with each step she took in the school hallway.

"She stands out among everyone in this school. Not because of the drab style of her white button-up and tattered black skirt, but she shines above her financial limitations, radiating the kind of beauty that can't be bought. Everything looks lackluster in comparison to the glow of her skin, the brightness of her eyes, and the potency of her aura."

Emeric Marceaux was a young music teacher in the Le Moyne. His intention was so much different when he came to the school. The only thing he thought was to have his job. But even in the first day, his plans were jeopardized by a forbidden, young and beautiful girl.

They were captivated by each other.
Their sexual tension was enough to set fire with one gaze. Ivory's sexuality had woken up with Emeric's dominance, honesty and his kinky way of teaching her the painful pleasure. And Emeric was drawn to her. Because Ivory's feistiness was his fuel. Her obedience was his fire.

They were a timeless concerto, together. They composed their own materpiece. A song that will never end.
Dark Notes looks like a steamy forbidden romance at first glance. It is...But it has so much more than that. It is about keeping the dreams no matter what the situation is. It is about being brave enough to face with life.
Dark Notes is about the Ivory's story of finding herself, figuring out her dreams and experiencing the pleasure over pain.
But mostly it is being strong enough to hope. Brave enough to tattoo your hopes on your skin. Believing in "Someday My Prince Will Come."

I fell in love with Emeric.
I was in awe of Ivory's strength.
And I was bewitched by Pam Godwin's talent of storytelling.
This book was hard to put down. And even if you can put it down, you won't be able to stop thinking about Mr. Marceaux.
Hottest Teacher Ever!

More and more I am loving a dark, erotic romance. I still love all of the other tropes and genres but give me a good dark, dirty, erotic romance and this book whore is in heaven, or would it be considered hell? Dark Notes satisfied my craving for the dark, for the erotic, and for that edge that all dark reads should have. Dark Notes is angst filled, heart breaking, stomach knotting, have you rocking back and forth as you are reading it wondering, praying and hoping about what will happen on the very next page. I will not be doing a long review because I don’t want to spoil anything. Just be prepared. Be prepared to cry, to have to call your doctor for anxiety meds from all the angst, to ignoring your family and friends while reading it and to not be able to function afterwards for at least a couple of days I have not read anything by this author before I read Dark Notes but I will be checking out all of her books because this book whore is hooked!

This book wasn't a bad book, but it didn't become my favorite.

It was strange for me that Emeric fell head over heels in love with a 17 year old girl the fist time he saw her. The world stopped for him. But I liked that he was patient with her because of her past, and he didn't have BDSM sex with her at first.
Ivory was a victim. Her family didn't care about her, they didn't love her. A lot of people exploited her from the age of 13. She let them because of her future. Despite this she wasn't horrified when Emeric, her teacher approached her. It was interesting...
I think she behaved overly grown-up. Some childish tantrums, fights would have been good for the story.
This book is about a taboo story, an affair between teacher and student. But I didn't feel it interesting. It would have been better with more complications and hitch. There were some of these but they were solved quickly.
I liked that the book was written in alternate POVs. 4*

I’ve just finished reading Dark Notes and I had to come and write the review because my feelings are all over the place.
Dark Notes is my first Pam Godwin’s book. I’m a huge fan of Classical music so when I saw all the ingredients combined I knew I had to read this book: a hot teacher, a student and classical music.
I’m a reader that pays attention to little things like tittles and covers. I pay special attention to them. I loved the cover and I loved the title: Dark notes.
Because it is indeed a dark reading.
Emeric Marceaux is a Dominant. He is also an excellent professor with a dark past.
Ivory Westbrook is a seventeen year old student with a past of abuse and negligence. To follow her dreams and become the musician she aspires to be, she sells her body.
One day she meets the new teacher who happens to be…. Emeric Marceaux.
Now here starts the complexity of this story. You may think Ivory is weak. When you start reading the story and you get inside of her world you’ll see she is everything but.
Emeric is a hot professor with a kinky attitude and a filthy mouth. And, oh boy, that mouth of his!
Together, they will find a way to complete each other. It’s not a first sight kind of love. It’s something that starts with attraction and that grows into passion and lust.
Emeric and Ivory are perfect for each other but he’s her teacher and she’s his student.
Together they will have to face a lot of obstacles, the dean being the biggest of them all.
Emeric Marceaux is my new book boyfriend. He is everything a girl could want. Tender, passionate and an alpha in the bedroom (and other places too).
Pam Godwin combined dark, sex and music brilliantly. As I was reading, I almost could hear the music playing. And I think I’ll never be able to look at a piano in the same way. This story is remarkable! The complexity that surrounds it is off the charts. This is not a traditional teacher / student taboo story. This story is so much more than that. Is more than words can say.
I can’t say I’m a huge fan of Dark reads. I love them BUT they have to be more than just kinky sex on pages. I love the psychological part of a dark read. If it’s not good, the story fades away. In this case Pam wrote it with such a talent that is impossible to remain indifferent.
The plot is very well conceived and the characters are very well designed.
The sex scenes are steamy and hot, capable of making you sweat! Discretion is advised while reading this book.
I highly recommend this book. To those who love dark reads, to those who love an amazing story, to those who love music.

My first read from Pam Godwin and I'm in love. This book was so hype in everywhere. A forbidden student-teacher romance? Mainstream. What about a kinky dominant teacher with taboo relationship? That's new. Also he teach music and I loved man with piano.

Ivory Westbrook (17) lives in poverty with her useless mother, abusive brother and adorable cat. Everyday she fights to maintain herself in Le Moyne; a music school for rich kids. It is not easy. Ivory was stamped as a school slut and doesn't have many friends. Every girl sneer at her. Every boy wants to get in her panties. Her only dream is Leopold which is impossible because someone didn't want her to pass even she's talented musician. I was so amazed with her strength. She's mature enough in her age to survive her very messed up life. Ivory has brutal past with no one's help until she meet him.

Emeric Marceaux (27) work as music teacher at Le Moyne to leave his scandal and get together with his family. But work at Le Moyne came with string attached. His first meet with Ivory changed everything. She's different. Ivory carry a lot of baggage and Emeric decided to know everything about her. I believe it isn't easy for Emeric. It was insta-lust with Ivory before he knows her life. Still, this woman succeed blindsided him. As her teacher, Emeric cares until the day he pushed her limit.

This story isn't about a damsel in distress. The fact that Ivory didn't need help from Emeric was shown from very first. But he isn't blind. The first 60% showed how Ivory and Emeric is trying to work out their student/teacher relationship. Before he goes further with Ivory, he still couldn't move on from his ex. Comparing everything with her. I was annoyed with the facts he still thinking about the ex. It was no surprise that Emeric is in denial with his feeling. Time goes on, he is ready to start a new relationship with Ivory. Emeric clean all her mess and decided to claimed Ivory to be his.

What happened with Ivory always makes me cringes. It was so horrible and painful. GAH! I'm so happy that Emeric saved the day. He's patiently threaded everything with Ivory. Their sexual tension was unquestionable. He didn't want to rush everything/traumatized her but damn, he hardly control himself.

Ivory is the one who changed Emeric. She didn't push but also realize that she's already fall in love with her teacher/savior. I enjoyed how kinky and powerful Emeric is. I loved all his perv also romantic side. Although it isn't really 24/7 BDSM and they play without label, I could feel the real power exchange between them.

There is several issues for me. First, I didn't recall Ivory could drive. It was careless for Emeric to give her a Porsche. Ugh the perks of filthy rich dominant who didn't wanna hear rejection. Second, the branded stuff. I know how shitty Ivory's life but it isn't necessary to show how sudden Ivory could have that stuff. Last, the story was quite predictable and too coincidental. Just predictable and somehow, careless. Also I didn't like when the ex came back with pregnancy issues.

Nonetheless, the ending was fantastic and definitely what I hoped for. Totally enjoyed this book very much. Beautifully written and almost perfect. Pam Godwin succeed to bring anti-mainstream teacher-student relationship (which is usually I avoid/DNF). But with kink? Never say never. Gosh, I need to read her other books. ASAP!

What can I say , this book blew me out of the water . We all have had crushes our teachers when we were in school but this book takes it in a totally new direction . Ivory and Emeric are two people that are tough and hard when they are apart but when together they are like fire and ice . They are also from totally different worlds . We see instant chemistry between the student and the teacher. They are drawn to each other and become obsessed with each other . They become student , teacher . master, sub and lovers . Will they survive or will they end up only hurting each other.

This is one book that I couldn't put down, I had one of those up all night reading sessions . The author takes us on such a journey through this book . I couldn't help but fall in love with Ivory and Emeric. Ivory is such a complex girl. She has been through so much . Her family is non existent and she has been abused since she was 13 yrs old . But she has persevered and is about to graduate from a prestigious music academy. She is shunned and treated like dirt by all the snotty rich kids that go there. You see her struggle but survive and she stands strong among the rich kids. She is a survivor . After she meets Emeric you see her change. He may be hard on her, she becomes more confidant and feels like she can take on the world . She changes so much and becomes such a strong woman that you are blown away by her . Even in tragedy she is strong and won't let anyone hurt her and the ones she loves . Emeric is such a complex man. He is a gifted pianist and is so intense , you can feel it bouncing off the pages . He is cocky and talented , and has had his problems at another school . He is brought to Ivory's school to teach piano to the gifted children there. When we first meet him , he is really cocky , thinking every woman wants him . Until he meets Ivory and then his protecting and his form of discipline . You see him become very protective and all alpha male when it comes to Ivory. He does everything to keep her safe and does everything in his power to make her, his . Even blackmail and maybe be a beating or two. He is all male and you will swoon over him and then maybe climb him like a spider monkey .

I loved this book as soon as I opened it . It is dark and complex with great characters . Trust me you will want to just take Ivory in your arms and hug her tight and tell her that life will be ok . Emeric one moment you want to punch him and the next moment you are wanting to climb him like a spider monkey . Like all Pam's other books , you will ugly cry during parts of this book . Trust me ladies have Kleenex handy . That is one of the reasons why I love her books , the author draws out all kinds of emotions from us the readers . That is a sign of a great author when they can do that . This was the first teacher/student book that I have read and fell in love with . The story is powerful and yet very sexy at the same time . So if you want a great book that will make you laugh, think and cry . This is the book for you . Check it out you will not be disappointed .

Pam Godwin has been my master for everything dark, forbidden, thrilling, and sexy since I have read her Beneath The Burn in 2013. Dark Notes is proof even more how much of a master this author is when it comes to her words. This one gripped my heart and mind, refusing to let me go until I reach the end of Ivory and Emeric's erotic, heart-rending story.

"He doesn't give me nightmares. He makes me float through the air in a dream."

The first introduction to Ivory Westbrook was rather horrifying not because of her as a character but because with that first scene, it already gave me the idea of what she has been going through and made me feel for her right away. She made me feel sad, angry for her, yet at the same time admire her strength. While I wished she handled things differently, I wouldn't really know because I've never been in her shoes. I just understood how her emotions and self-control affect her decision making, because if it were me, I would have stabbed those little f/ckers with a bread knife. Repeatedly. Again, that was just me and that is why I admire her strength amidst the ugly things that happened in her life, she knows how to go with the flow without losing her dream.

Emeric Marceaux may seem like the typical privileged guy; rich, young, and successful. Okay, he's really that but also more. Mr. Marceaux is dominating, sexy, and extremely protective. His chemistry with Ivory was palpable during their first meeting and even though their sexual relationship was a slow burn, the build up was as much sexy as the actual sex happening. Of course, nothing will beat (ha!) the scorching aura Emeric has going on. H O T. S E X Y.

Dark Notes is another brilliant masterpiece from Pam Godwin. Everything about this book had me in pins and needles, worrying, anticipating what happens next. Reading this has also been an emotional one for me. I don't feel for Ivory only because of the ugly things that has been happening to her when it comes to guys, what struck me the most is that she lost her dad and how much her dad loved her. It reminded me of my relationship with my dad. Then there's another death in her life that made me bawl my eyes out. It may not be a big deal for some but it's always a touchy thing for me.

Ivory and Emeric's relationship was intense, both of their lives hold some unpleasant history, and Pam Godwin penned the characters and story in a way that you experience their growth with them. Dark Notes is more than just a forbidden romance book, it's also an emotional journey of life and love.

Attention ladies your next forbidden romance is right here. Dark Notes by Pam Godwin was sinfully perfect in every sense of the way. Student/teacher romance has rarely been so arousing. My advice would be to read this when you are alone or in any case NOT in a public space

By the time Mrs Godwin has built the sexual tension between Ivory & Emeric you won't be able to put your kindle down because you'll be in need to know what will happen between these two. And believe me a lot is happening!

I don't really want to tell you the specifics about the characters because while reading you will discover them quickly. The storyline, the plot is developed within the first chapters and your main focus will be to know how Ivory & Emeric relation is going to evolve.

Dark Notes is a journey of self discovery, of pursuing your dreams and believing in them but it's also a book about sexual initiation where trust is valuable.

You know by now how I love a good alpha man and when you mix it with a dominant, it's even better. The particularity of Emeric was how caring andprotective he was. He might claim himself as not a gentle lover but all his other actions are considerate, kind and thoughtful.

Ivory was a character I liked right away because she was the type of girl to get back on her feet whatever was thrown her way. Believe me she had a rough life and she only is seventeen.

For those who might be worried about the bdsm, I would reassure you in telling you it's quite light. Emeric &Ivory connection goes beyond that. As I said before their relation is based on trust. My favorite aspect of their relation was certainly how honest they are with each other. With taboo book like this one you would can a lot of angst but it wasn't the case here. And I have to admit I did enjoy that part most of all.

In two books which are very different from one another, Pam Godwin showed me how talented she was, how she can write to perfection. She captivated me to the point I got lost in her words when chaos was around me... and that might tell you everything you need to know ;)

Wow this book was amazing. Dark Notes by Pam Godwin has been on my radar for a while now, but I have been putting it off until I got in a dark read kind of mood. It wasn't nearly as dark as I thought it was going to be. Don't get me wrong it's dark. About a 6 or 7 on a dark scale of 1-10, 10 being the darkest, but I have read darker. I really enjoyed Pam Godwin's writing style. She captivated me from the start and made me fall in love with the main couple. Besides being a darker read it was a taboo read. You have a forbidden teacher/student love. The hero is 27 the heroine is 17. Very naughty!

Emeric was extremely sexy. I loved his over the top protectiveness. The way he loved and took care of Ivory. He was all dominant, but was still supportive, comforting and sweet. He was also a bad bad boy! A kinky, naughty teacher tasting the forbidden fruit. I loved that he knew she was worth everything. He didn't fight his feelings long. She was his and he would have her period! I love that!!!! Emeric was like her Dark knight. Ivory has had a bad life ever since her dad died. Abused by her mother, brother. Ivory does what she has to, in order to survive. She has a plan and she is going to overcome. She may have been beaten down many times but she was so strong and it shined through the pages.

There was some major sexual tension in this book. I'm a sucker for the whole student/teacher love stories. Emeric and Ivory had major chemistry. The heat was rising from my kindle because not only is there the whole taboo age/teacher/student thing going on in this book, but Emeric is all Dom and there is a generous sprinkling of bdsm kinkery too. Their relationship wasn't all kink though. There was a nice relationship build up. They also have a supportive, sweet, loving, and playful relationship. They don't judge each other. For a dark book I found myself laughing a lot. Like the part where she throws the marker at Emeric and it bounces off his forehead and leaves a mark, I could actually picture it in my head.

I know some will have a problem with their ages, but I didn't. I also found that I really enjoyed the fact that Emeric's mom and dad were so supportive of him. They didn't look down on Ivory, didn't treat her bad. I loved that he could be 100% honest with them. I hated Ivory's mother, brother, and her brother's best friend Lorenzo. I read a few reviews where readers didn't like what happens with Lorenzo. Not me I was glad! I also felt her mom and brother didn't get their comeuppances and it really disappointed me. Just sayin' how they gonna get off after all they put Ivory through. Emeric and Ivory's HEA was super sweet and well deserved. Overall I loved this book and can't wait to get my hands on more Pam Godwin books. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves dark, taboo, love.

Dark Notes was gifted to me in an ARC in exchanged for an honest review. I am giving Pam Godwin book 5 stars because this book was just so amazing. I can honestly say I have never read a book like this. I mean the intensity that this Author created within this story was just radiant, and the way she formed these two different characters was fascinating because even though it appears to us the readers that they are so different in so many ways they really aren't. I mean yes they both grow up incompletely two different worlds. For example Ivory was raised in a bad neighborhood, and in an abuse home with a mother and brother who couldn't care less whether she lived or died. They both seen Ivory as the reason why they lived in such a hellhole. So all she wants to do is better her life and have a career in what she loves most and that is playing the piano. But it seems like everyone around her just wants her to fail. Its really sad because this poor girl has been through so much and all she wants is a break. Whats more sad is that she has no one to protect her from all of the men in her life that just want to use and hurt her. Well this is until Emeric her new teacher comes into her life. Yes he comes from a very privileged who was raised in a loving home as an only child. But of course with that power comes certain cravings that only Ivory can help settled them. I mean yes he can have any woman give him what he wants but they can never satisfy him like her. Of course he knows its wrong and he can get in so much trouble but he just can't help himself when it comes to her. This story was so touching and beautiful in so many ways. I mean don't get me wrong there was so many times when it made me so mad, but in the end I loved this book. If you have not read this book you should check it out. There's so much more that happens in this book that I would love to share, but I don't want to spoil it for you. Your just going to have to read it to find out what happens to Ivory and Emeric for yourself.

I first read and fell in love with Pam Godwin's work in Dirty Ties.

Her writing is so fluid and her stories have that cinematic feel to them.

This book is no exception. The subject matter in this one is dark and gritty. Definitely NOT for the fainthearted. Not to mention that forbidden factor of student/teacher relationship. However, this isn't your typical student/teacher story - in this case, the teacher ends up being a dark version of a white knight, if that makes any sense. The story is very emotional and very raw. Not to mention, beautifully written!

Those of you who appreciate quality writing and CAN keep an open mind about certain topics would really enjoy this one!

Cheers!

There are hardly words to describe my thoughts on this book. I want to say phenomenal - but even that doesn't seem like enough.

Dark Notes was, most certainly, the best book I've read all year, quite possibly... ever.

Pam Godwin weaves a dark tale so forbidden, so taboo, you can't help but love both deliciously flawed main characters. The story pulled me in from the start, sucked me deep, and didn't let go until the very end. And while the story was interesting, entertaining, and everything else I love in a good book, it was the amazing writing that pushed it over the threshold. Each sentence is a work of art in itself. Godwin has the unique ability to not only paint the full picture right before your eyes, but to make you feel like your inside the story. As if you're watching the entire plot unfold before you.

I would give this book 10+ stars if I possibly could. Even if you're on the fence about the whole teacher/student thing, I would recommend this book to absolutely anyone.

This book took me by surprise. I didn't expect this one to be so hot, dark and intoxicating. Even though the love story is forbidden I'm not ashamed to say that for me it was perfect, I devoured it in one day, once I start it I couldn't put it down! I have to say that I was waiting patiently to finally read this book! I love Pam's writing and especially in this one it's so beautiful and I could say poetic in some parts which make me love the story even more!
The best part in this story for me is the connection Emeric and Ivory have! It's passionate, intense, emotional and super hot. They fit so perfectly together, I can't imagine Emeric without Ivory. Emeric is so alpha male! He is dominant, protective, cocky and hot! I love how kinky he was! Really it's been a long time before I find a character to excite me like he did!
If you are a fan of teacher student romance like me, and you need something hot and dark to wake you up then you shouldn't miss out on this great read!

This was dark, yet uplifting at the same time. Our poor heroine, the lovely Ivory, is seventeen, and has had a horribly traumatic life. Dark, bad things happen to her so frequently, that she has no concept of how bad her life actually is. She has her goal in life, to get out of the ghetto, to improve herself, and she is single minded in her pursuit of her dream. She is truly inspiring. I wish I was half as dedicated as her.
Emeric, is her piano teacher. He meets her the first day of school for her senior year. He is a dom, a very demanding lover, a hard brilliant teacher. He is also immediately drawn to Ivory. He fights it. He is no fool. He wants to keep his job. He loves teaching. He knows that a teacher who sleeps with a student is held accountable and usually ends up in jail. So he fights his attraction.

SPOILERS IN REMAINDER OF REVIEW...
Until he doesn't fight it any more. Until he starts taking care of Ivory, and showering her with attention and gifts.
They have their troubles. They are constantly aware of the illegal relationship they have. Ivory isn't even eighteen yet in the story, she is seventeen. They have to come to terms with her past abuse, with their own relationship. With their future.
The book was written very well. It was kind of poetic. Two people as attuned to music as these two, they saw their interactions as music. As notes. As a song their bodies sung. There is a lot of music talk in this book. I know nothing of music. So it was just kind of poetic to me, and not as deep as I'm sure it was meant to be, if you have a background in music to understand everything.
Very erotic book. Long scenes drawn out with every detail. Just a very detailed book altogether. Took me four days to read. I don't know that I would re-read this one, but I will definitely be reading this author again. Very good book!

WARNING! Violence is commited towards the heroine, as well as attempted rape, and past incidents are talked about. This book features bdsm practices, rough sex, violence. Proceed with caution if any of these things are upsetting to you!

I wish I could give this book 10 stars!

This is the story of Ivory and Emeric. Ivory is a musically gifted high school student and Emeric is her equally musically gifted teacher.

Ivory was born on the wrong side of the tracks and has way too much baggage for her 17 young years. Emeric is fleeing scandal and a very bad relationship. But when these two join they create beautiful music.

Emeric helps Ivory learn to trust and Ivory helps Emeric learn to love unconditionally.

This story is rich and complicated. It has drama, action, and finally one of the sweetest love stories I have ever read. This is a must read!

"We're a timeless concerto. A musical masterpiece."

I've never been interested in the teacher/student romance bandwagon. I don't understand the appeal and the few I've read didn't stir my interest. But Dark Notes just proves to me how can a well written teacher-student romance can make me a convert. This book is so forbidden, scandalous, dirty and hot hot hot! I feel like I'm constantly on fire while reading this from the beginning till the end. Is a miracle that both me and my kindle doesn't end up look like a pile of charred meat.

Emeric Marceaux, O-M-Goodness, even his name is so sexy. He's the new Head Music Instructor for Le Moyne, who left his previous school with a sordid reputation and a resentment. Although he is only 27, which I feel that is too young for me, he blew my expectation out of proportion by his maturity, stoicism, dominance and don't-f@ck-with-me vibe.

~ He seems untouchable. Maybe his fists are as brutal as his beauty. Just looking at him feels like I'm inhaling a lungful of fire. ~

Ivory Westbrook, 17, is a piano prodigy and an underprivileged student at Le Moyne. She deals with hostility and harshness from her peers and did things she's not proud of pay the bills. She's a girl who came from a broken family and overlook by the system, but still possess a fighting spirit and adamant to succeed in her musical career.

~ She's exactly the kind of woman I'm drawn to. A woman who flees when hunted and comes alive when she's caught. A woman who bends beneath punishments and seeks acceptance in her humiliation. ~

We've read about sexual tension, the overuse of eye-f@cking analogy, but Pam Godwin brings a whole new meaning to sexual tension with her vibe f@cking. Seriously, Ivory and Emeric don't even need to look each other on the eye in their class, and the tension is so palpable, as if something is going to detonate at any second. Mostly my ovaries.

~ The tempo of our breaths. The drum of our heartbeats. The crackle in the air. The exquisite cadence pulses through me, awakening sensations I've never felt, composing a melody I've never heard. ~

Without a doubt, for me, Emeric is one of the best and most unforgettable heroes that Pam Godwin written to date. Even with the mentioned of his ex-girlfriend, ex-lovers, his high-handedness, bossiness, over-protectiveness that is borderline stalkerish, I'm totally soaking it all up. He is quite a kinky b@stard, but even if I took out the BDSM element in the story, I still loves him. Like what Ivory mentioned, 'If you can't get it up, I still loves you,' because his love for his girl know no bounds and he loves selflessly.

~ I'm his ivory, and he's my darkest note. ~

~ She's in my veins, fiery and weightless. She's in my head, like a whisper of promises. She's in my heart, softening it, mending it, and making it pump again. ~

Dark Notes might just be the erotica of the year for me. Highly recommended for erotica fans or teacher/student romance lovers. You don't want to miss this out!

"We'll compose our own masterpiece. A sing that will never end."

I've always said that the true test of an author is whether or not they can make you feel the emotions they are trying to convey, Pam Godwin has not only made me feel with Dark Notes, but her ability to elevate the feelings into visualization is phenomenal.

There were so many times during the reading of this book that I felt transported...the first time Ivory plays the piano for Emeric...I was there. When Ivory tells Emeric, "Mr. Marceaux...You're sharing your notes." He says, "What?" and she touches her breastbone and says "I feel your notes. Here. They're dark and hypnotic, like your breaths and your heartbeats." I could barely breathe and got goosebumps all over. And when Emeric realizes she's worth it the author writes his thoughts...That's when I hear it. The tempo of our breaths. The drum of our heartbeats. The crackle in the air...awakening sensations I've never felt, composing a melody I've never heard. Our hypnotic, dark notes. At this point, I couldn't help how my hand caressed my breastbone.

I could go on, but I think you see where I'm going with this, quite honestly there were several times throughout the story I was completely breathless.

That said, I won't lie, I was a little apprehensive with the premise of this book, the whole teacher/student thing borders on creepy for me, but a book buddy and I chose to read it together and I'm so glad I took a chance. And since music is my second favorite hobby this was a total win/win for me.

Ivory is young and naive in some ways, but so strong and resilient, something that makes her far more attractive and mature than most her age. Emeric is honest and forthright from the onset and a caring and protective alpha, making no bones about his need for her to "trust" that all he does is about her and for her. Totally swoon-worthy...when he tells her "that's the luckiest dress on the planet" I wanted to fall at his feet and worship.

"Mesmerized by the lyrical language of our heartbeats" Can't you feel it? Wouldn't you want that?

As I said, in my opinion, the true test of an author is the way a book makes you feel...Dark Notes demonstrates a talent not all authors can achieve....thank you Pam Godwin, I will treasure this book.

Ivory Westbrook has been called many things—poor, unworthy, ****, shameful, dirty. But what she's never been called—not by a man, not since her father died—is love . And that's exactly the word, the feeling, Ivory aches to to experience...even though the past has been nothing but pain, hurt, hate, and blame.

She's a little lost lamb among a pack of cutthroat wolves.

But with the soul-deep determination to make her future brighter by graduating from the prestigious Le Moyne Academy to attend Leopold, an elite, highly-selective music college, Ivory plans do any dark, disgraceful deed needed to achieve her musical dreams.

Emeric Marceaux may call himself many things—commanding, wicked, forceful, conniving, unabashed. But what he's never called himself is controlled. Not even when his career—his well-deserved reputation as a highly-refined teacher—is tarnished with betrayal. But controlled is exactly what Emeric becomes when a tall, voluptuous, sexy-as-sin seventeen-year-old student walks into his classroom, ready to be taught...

This isn’t a job. It’s a creditable use of my need to influence and dominate, a place where I can discipline weaknesses, mold trustful minds, and inspire students with my passion for music.

♠ ♥ ♣ ♦

Dark Note's heroine was inspiring. Coming from a poor background, Ivory had to make hard decisions to survive in this often hard, always cruel, world—and many of those decisions were not the pretty kind.

She’s made for me, to be instructed and punished and enjoyed...

But you know what? I loved Ivory for it all, her bad past, her painful choices. It made her strong, a survivor, in the way the world had tried to drag her asunder—but she kept smiling, kept making beautiful music, kept going on when all hope might be lost.

The exquisite cadence pulses pulses through me, awakening sensations I've never felt, composing a melody I've never heard.

Sweet merciful ****, Pam Godwin created a hell of a Hero. Or Anti-Hero? Emeric definitely had characteristics of both, and I think that's what attracted me to him. His disregard of anyone else, his crude, rude, spiteful, and downright hellish nature was a beautiful war against his absolute, complete, and terrible love for Ivory.

It was enthralling, hypnotic, and gorgeous to read.

She’s in my veins, fiery and weightless. She’s in my head, like a whisper of promises. She’s in my heart, softening it, mending it, and making it pump again.

♠ ♥ ♣ ♦

In Dark Notes Pam Godwin wrote perfection, as always—there was a beat of darkness thumping between each page that intrigued, excited, titillated, entwined with an unforgettable melody of hurts-so-good lust and to-kill-for love that held me mesmerized by Mr. Marceaux's desires.

"I want you naked, sitting at my piano and rolling your hips like you're ******* the notes."

With its overwhelming emotions, shocking originality, deep sensuality, and intensely beautiful writing, Dark Notes recorded over all other seemingly-similar books, easily singing itself onto my heart as my all-time favorite forbidden, student/teacher erotic romance.

Honestly, I promise, Mr. Marceaux. *wink* ♥

This book will be the song stuck in your head that you'll never want to let go of.

The tempo of our breaths. The drum of our heartbeats. The crackle in the air. The exquisite cadence pulses through me, awakening sensations I've never felt, composing a melody I've never heard. Our hypnotic, dark notes.

I’m a fan of Pam Goodwin’s writing. Her previous books, Deliver, and Vanquish were both solid 5 star reads for me.

Dark Notes kept me glued to the pages. I loved Ivory’s strength, her sass and her determination to escape from her awful life. I was rooting for her to achieve her dream. The horror she suffers is so vividly described, it had me holding my breath, tensing my muscles and hating her tormentors. Great writing!

If you like heat in your stories Dark Notes will get your panties wet! Pam Goodwin sure knows how to write good sex scenes!

The reason for the 4 star is at first I didn’t like Emeric and I want to like my heroes from the start! In the beginning, he came across to me as a predator. I felt he came on too strong, too soon and made me feel a little icky, BUT as the story went on it was clear Emeric loved Ivory and I adored the little gestures, and the extravagant things he did to show his love. By the second half of the book I totally loved him for all that he did, and all that he risked to protect Ivory. And the ending was just perfect and left me with a happy glow.

I recommend this to all fans of dark romance and BDSM.

So this creepy guy finds the perfect victim. She is young (17), has a long history of being sexually assaulted, has major daddy issues, is basically homeless and financially desperate, has no parental supervision, is starving for any kind of physical attention. So what does he do? He completely takes advantage of this poor broken girl and convinces her that she "belongs" to him and has to do everything he says. He then completely controls every aspect her life, down picking out her clothes. He even convinces her that she wants to be whipped with his belt and not go to the college of her dreams so she can be with him all the time. I have never read a sicker book. The poor girl needed someone to help her and protect her....not take advantage of her. She needed a counselor and a parent. Not a paedophile. This was a how-to book for guys looking to find a victim.

I wish I could play the piano because I really, really, really want Mr Emeric Marceaux to school me. Sit next to me on the piano bench. Smack my fingers with his baton. I will take every punishment. I bet he could teach me how to play Avenged Sevenfold on piano. Dear God!

Student teacher romance but it does not feel grotty like some I have read.

Ivory. Bless, bless, bless her. I would have hugged the living daylights out of her. That girl! She is unloved, but she has a dream. Music is in the beat of her heart. Emeric is the tune to her beat. Together the music is a symphony. Toccata and fugue. I felt every wavering note. Every sharp. Every flat.

Pam Godwin wrote this book like a musical score. I rode the highs and lows and was completely mesmerised.

Sexy, sensual, exciting and intense ! This tale tells the battle to survive her hellish childhood, and how her teacher guides her to overcome the depths of despair. Emeric Mereaux is a virtuoso pianist who teaches, engages in dangerous behavior, is an alpha into BDSM, and is obsessed with Ivory. Ivory, the most talented student he's met, is abused, bullied, dirt poor, and in spite of that, she's superbly lovely with long hair, soul-filled brown eyes, and a hidden passion. He tempts her immediately, and is determined to help her, to turn her circumstances around help her get what she wants. Her father, a piano playing legend has passed away, and she supports her deadbeat brother and addicted Mom, plus must constantly fight off the brother's molesting friend. Ivory is preyed upon daily from all types of guys, but she needs to support everyone and get into her dream school, so she can escape the Treme. Fabulously written, this smooth flowing tale will entrance you.
It isn't a perfect book, but it is deeply sexual, mesmerizing, and hopeful.
Emeric seems unbalanced at times, but his passionate nature is soul deep and he unleashes his temper easily for the social injustices he witnesses. He is Ivory's defender, and protector, but also her lover, teaching her the reality of the depths pleasure can bring, and the rewards of submitting. Amazing descriptions, interesting people, and an awesome sexual tension runs throughout this haunting tale.
I recommend it for any M/F BDSM fan. ENJOY !!!
=======================================
SPOILER: Violence, I nearly quite reading after she's raped by her brother's friend at the stories beginning, and goes to school- torn dress and cut lipped, but I kept going, and I'm glad I did.

Read from start to finish in one sitting and I couldn’t put it down. Emeric just might be my new favorite book boyfriend. The man has no boundaries and when he sets his eyes on something it happens. He doesn’t stop until he gets it. Even at the risk of himself. He was protective and possessive even when she wasn’t his. I absolutely loved him

That being said holy mother load of triggers.

The abuse was insane in this story. Your heart broke for the heroine and you totally understood her actions after the fact. For my safety fans... I’m gonna it’s not safe. But if you could look past all that the love story and Emeric alone is worth the read.

This is a first I’ve read from this author and I’ll definitely pick up something else. It was fantastic

I love student/teachers forbidden stories and I've been reading some pretty bad ones lately, but Dark Notes hit the nail on the head. Ivory was dealt the worst cards with life and Emeric was heaven sent. What I loved the most is the flow of the story, the attraction was immediate but their romance was a build up and we saw them fall in love. He was so gentle, loving and patient with her and he put everything on the line for Ivory including the risk of getting arrested and his career just to keep her safe. There was no immaturity between the them and breaking up every time there was an issue, and they had plenty of them - once they decided they wanted to be together it was final. If you like forbidden stories you won't be disappointed.

"At seventeen, I don't know a lot about the world, but I find that being unwanted and unhappy is harder to endure than having nothing to eat." -Ivory Westwood

"Nothing fills me with a sense of belonging like standing before a rapt audience and commanding attention with the sound of my voice. This isn't a job. It's a creditable use of my need to influence and dominate, a place where I can discipline weaknesses, mold trustful minds, and inspire students with my passion for music." -Mr. Emeric Marceaux

Given the chance of a lifetime, because of her late father, Ivory attends one of the most prestigious school of arts high school in Louisiana. Despite being branded with the stigma of slut, Ivory doesn't let it deter her from reaching her dreams. And her dreams include getting out of her current situation; away from the pain, the rejection, the bitterness and resentment...the abuse. She's bright, she's beyond talented, but more than that, she's determined.

It's not until she realizes she's essentially starting over with a new professor her senior year, Mr. Emeric Marceaux, that she truly embarks on her journey to self. But Emeric has a specific way of instruction and the day Ivory walks into his classroom, everything he hoped to leave behind in his former life threatens to land him in a situation no teacher--or student--should be in.

"He's aggressive and powerfully built like other men. More so. But he had numerous opportunities to take and didn't. Because he's a teacher? Or because he's not like other men? I'm not ready to trust those thoughts or the way they make me feel." -Ivory

"She may not know it but she needs clearly-defined boundaries, discipline, and a man she can trust to pus her beyond her comfort zone. She may not recognize me as that man, but she will. Then what?" -Emeric

Let the music play.

This book. I can't even fully describe my feelings, I've highlighted so many passages, I don't know where to begin. From the very first page, I was drawn in to the destitute situation Ivory was in, my heart bled for her. Yet...she surprised me. Instead of succumbing to her situation, she was strong. Determined. I connected with her instantly and wanted to not just be her friend, but I wanted to protect her too.

Then, she meets Mr. Marceaux. Emeric. A sexy professor, highly accomplished in his own right, and carrying around his own darkness.

Hello instant sparks.

"'Mr. Marceaux?" I rub my palms on my thighs, holding his gaze, and whisper, "You're sharing your notes." Lines form on his forehead as he grips the back of his neck. "What?" "I feel your notes. Here." I touch my breastbone, my voice shaking. "They're dark and hypnotic, like your breaths and your heartbeats.'"

From their first meeting to first interaction, I wanted more. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough, yet I wanted to savor every word, every note of their private symphony. It was bewitching and magical. It was pure seduction cased in eighty-eight keys. The contrast of light and dark. The music. The discipline. The sensual masterpiece created when instruction becomes more than professional. It becomes personal. And oh, so perfect.

Dark Notes is a delectable, sometimes dark and very FORBIDDEN standalone love story between a male teacher and his gifted senior music student. It’s gritty, thought provoking, sometimes violent, passionate and sensual and took me to places that I really didn’t think it would. The balance of power exchange between the protagonists is exquisite. This author carves out the unexpected within the pages of her story and I absolutely love and appreciated every thought provoking and intense moment that at times had me on the edge of my seat with anticipation.

The story unfolds in the first person narrative and toggles between the perspective of the hero and heroine. The reader discovers Ivory's troubled and turbulent past. She’s a young lady who has endured loss and brutal attacks on her heart and body. The themes weaved through the prose pertaining to Ivory are hard hitting, she's experienced dark moments, some of which we feel in the narrative making my heart ache for her and all she's been through. Despite everything she has endured, she’s a survivor, fiercely determined and will do ANYTHING to achieve her dream of graduating, fulfilling her potential and attending an elite music school. The male protagonist, Emeric Marceaux is a commanding, self assured caring man. A dominant at his core with an agenda and past of his own that add to the layers and depth of the story.

I love the way the dominance theme is convincingly weaved into the development of their relationship, without the dominance being the main focus of the story. The author showcases the trust and power exchange, a crucial element in Ivory's character development. The master/submissive relationship within the text is depicted with absolute care and attention, as I stated, its not the main crux, it just so happens that the hero is a dominant and recognizes that the heroine would enjoy his proclivities. I always appreciate reading about this kind of relationship when the power and control is rightly placed firmly in the hands of the submissive. The depiction by Pam Goodwin, for me, is perfect. His dominance is beautifully demonstrated and at times gave me goose bumps. Trust is also perfectly explored, it's importance, how it feels to receive and to give out that trust, the absolute importance of it and the power that said trust transfers to the parties involved.

Above everything, I very much felt the protector theme emanating from the narrative as Emeric showcased his thoughts and feelings. The pull between the hero and heroine is felt from their first interaction as their intense chemistry ignites. Their relationship is forbidden, and one not given in to without deep thought and agonizing, especially by Emeric, I appreciated his torment; he’s completely at war with his feelings. The irony is not lost on me, that the one person she’s meant to stay away from is the only person dedicated to her care and protection. The one person who is able to give her the control she desperately needs to heal her mind and body.

Dark Notes gripped me from the very beginning to the end. Things happened that I did not expect, the author took the story arc to places I didn't expect all depicted in a free flowing prose that's truly effortless to read, despite the gritty nature of the text. The music theme is laced throughout, providing beautiful imagery within a finely tuned narrative. I highly recommend to all readers who like a darker, gritty read encased in a sensual forbidden ROMANCE.

What I Loved
There was so much I loved about this book I really don’t know where to begin. From the very start Ivory’s circumstances gripped my heart and sucked me in emotionally to the plot. To experience her hardship from the very first page made me a huge Ivory Westbrook fan and drew me into this book instantly. Also, I don’t know think I ever expected to feel so seduced and intoxicated the minute Emeric and Ivory first see each other. You can almost hear the chemistry between crackle in the air it’s so thick and apparent the instant these two are in each other’s orbit. The attraction was there from the beginning and although the trust might’ve taken a little while to build the connection these two had was unmistakable. I really cherished their connection the most I think because it was so integral to both Ivory and Emeric’s lives and showed how strong their relationship had become.
Pam Godwin wrote this story in such a beautiful way that the air around these two became so intoxicating I couldn’t put this book down. Everything became a seduction while reading, the music they played the piano they played on, everything was part of the seduction and it added to overall experience.
Also I loved Emeric because he exuded this masculine dominance that poured off the pages whenever he even thought about Ivory let alone when he was around her. I loved the he absolutely owned her and made no apologies for it as well. In society we may not see someone who plays the piano as being tough and masculine but Emeric was a force to be reckon with and he more than proved that over and over again.

Not So Much
I really have no huge complaints about this story. There was a lot of foreshadowing obviously because this a story about a student and a teacher in love so when that all came to a head I felt like it was a little anticlimactic. Not that something HUGE doesn’t happen but maybe because it wasn’t what I was expecting that I was left a tad disappointed with all the buildup. But that’s just me, and I still absolutely love Emeric and Ivory. Also of course the sex scenes were nothing less than amazing and there was a ton of foreplay, but I did get a little tired of the teasing after a while. I do wish that maybe the sex did happen a little earlier on between them and less teasing, but I do understand why things happened the way they did and the purpose of it all.
To Sum It All Up!
This was such an amazing experience reading this book. I absolutely fell head over heels in love with Emeric and Ivory and their undeniable love for one another. The sex scenes were definitely detailed and involved a lot of BDSM and a piano, which definitely made things interesting! I really enjoyed watching their relationship grow and to see Ivory finally have someone in her life to depend on and trust. She had no one for such a long time and it was wonderful to see Emeric be this hero in her life.
As a reader it’s not always easy to became emotionally involved in a character you can’t relate to but that was not the case for me when it came to Ivory at all. It was hard to relate to Ivory’s circumstances but it was easy to love her. Pam Godwin wrote her in such a beautiful way that you immediately are gripped by this girl and you can’t put this book down because of her. Then this intoxicating man comes onto the scene and then he becomes her knight in shining armor and as the reader you fall in love with him as well and it makes the story even better! I absolutely LOVED this book, from beginning to end. I want more Emeric and more Ivory every single day!
The foundation of the plot was laid out really well, the pace of the story was right on point as well as all the details. I could clearly picture Emeric’s house as well as Ivory’s house. Pam Godwin created such a wonderful environment that sucked me from the very beginning. Emeric and Ivory’s connection was unmistakable from the start and shined through till the very end!

I'm his Ivory, and he's my darkest note.

This review will be completely spoiler free. I will just share my feelings on the book, but will not go into any sort of detail on what the book is about. You read the blurb, if not here it is.

They call me a slut. Maybe I am.
Sometimes I do things I despise.
Sometimes men take without asking.

But I have a musical gift, only a year left of high school, and a plan.
With one obstacle.

Emeric Marceaux doesn’t just take.
He seizes my willpower and bangs it like a dark note.
When he commands me to play, I want to give him everything.
I kneel for his punishments, tremble for his touch, and risk it all for our stolen moments.

He’s my obsession, my master, my music.
And my teacher.

"They're dark and hypnotic, like your breaths and your heartbeats."

Sounds pretty HOT right? I've been waiting for a book like this for a very long time. I love forbidden romance books, I love the build up I get from those book, the innocent touches, the way the characters feel about each other, even though they shouldn't.

I love the way Pam built this book up, it was set up perfectly and gave me exactly what I wanted and needed in a book. She has a way with her writing that is almost poetic, I felt myself just let go reading away for hours and then realized that I had nothing else to read. But that being said, (I was one of the beta readers for this book, so I was given this book in sections till I finally got the whole thing, Pam can be evil like that.) :)

Like life has handed me a song filled with soul-deep joy and told me to savor every note. Because eventually, the song will end.

Pam has not limits to writing, I have noticed that now in the last couple of her books. She is a genius for sure, I have known this since I met her. But her writing, it freaking pulls you in and you won't stop until you finish the book, and even after that I am still stuck on this book. Major book hanger for sure! It has been a while since I read a book that drew me in the way this one did.

The characters are amazing, they fit perfectly together! As you know this is a student teacher romance, and it isn't like any student teacher romance I have read. This one has such passion in every single page, you feel EVERY single thing just as they do. Its captivating. I am in AWE of Pam right now. I found everything I wanted in a book and more. I feel in love with these characters. It's just PERFECT! I applaud you, Pam you have created a freaking master piece and can not wait to see what the hell else you will be coming up with!

I am very happy to say, I was one of the beta readers for this book.

“Blindsided. That’s the best explanation for the stern volume of my voice and tightness in my usually-composed expression. I wasn’t prepared for this . Not for a tall, voluptuous , sexy-beyond-all-reason woman to walk into my classroom. My first thought? ”

Pam Godwin has hit every sinful note in this seductive, forbidden, bewitching and utterly addicting romance. Ms. Godwin has composed a story that was layered with intrigue, steam, passion and erotic BDSM undertones in her newest release, Dark Notes.

Right off the opening pages, I was consumed and mesmerized by Ms. Godwin’s lyrical and poetic prose. She not only hypnotize me to feel for her characters but she held me hostage. Though this book was layered with erotic undertones, Ms. Godwin does an excellent job balancing this. She draws her readers to feel, listen and understand the strong magnetic pull as to why lines were crossed and blurred.

“Ivory. That conjures an image of paleness with hard, worn edges like piano keys or teeth. Doesn’t fit her at all. She’s a dark portrait of soft curves and chestnut hair with deep golden skin that seems to absorb shadows in the room I hadn’t noticed until now. ”

Ivory Westbrook is a pianist prodigy. She is gifted, smart, beautiful, and talented. She is a survivor and strong-willed. Her musical talent has landed her in a prestigious performing art high school and her goal is to further that dream to play by getting accepted to a well known performing arts college in New York. Ivory has made it her mission. This is her dream.

“He seems untouchable. Maybe his fists are as brutal as his beauty. Just looking at him feels like I’m inhaling a lungful of fire.”

While Ivory is gifted musically, her home life is a mess. After her father passed away, her mother and elder brother went on a downward spiral. They both treat her like she is nobody, worthless slut and blames Ivory that they have no money because her father sold his piano bar so Ivory could attend this prestigious high school. They blame Ivory for everything. Though Ivory could easily walk away from them, she doesn’t. A part of her cares and loves for them. And so Ivory does what she needs to do in order to survive. She sells her body to willing high school boys in exchange to put food on the table, keep the house that they are living in and pay all the necessary bills in order to survive. To give her body so freely was not her first choice, since Ivory’s innocence was stolen from her at a young age of 13 at the hands of her brother’s best friend who was nine years her senior. What Ivory lacked in money, she was rich in talent.

“I wouldn’t need words, just her awareness of my body, my intent, and my confidence to give her what she craves. She may not know it but she needs clearly-defined boundaries, discipline, and a man she can trust to push her beyond her comfort zone. She may not yet recognize me as that man, but she will.”

On her first day of senior year, Ivory knows what everyone thinks of her. She is a slut. A nobody. Worthless. But luckily for Ivory, she has at least one friend in school that she can count on but mostly Ivory keeps to herself. She knows that in order to pursue her dreams, she needs to work hard. So when Ivory meets her new teacher, Emeric Marceaux, she feels an instant gravitational pull to him.

When Emeric first meets Ivory, he is enchanted by her beauty, smart mouth, and feisty personality. He is drawn to her. She was like a siren, calling him forth. Emeric is well aware, that he can’t have her. She’s far too young and his student. It’s forbidden and frown upon. But Emeric soon finds himself consumed by her and his need to protect her from the family and boys who takes advantages of her.

“She’s made for me, to be instructed and punished and enjoyed. I want inside her with such agonizing intensity my body quakes. I want in her mouth, her c%*t, and her soul. I want to rip her apart with my shaft, piece her back together, and do it all over again. F&^%, I need this girl. And I can’t have her.”

Like a moth to a flame, Emeric and Ivory are enraptured with one another. For the first time in a very long time, Ivory wants what Emeric is willing to offer. He is her teacher, master, and soon becomes her lover. Lines were crossed. The teacher/student relationship gets blurred when they both enter a secret relationship. And soon Ivory discovers Emeric’s sexual needs, wants, and desires. His need to own her body, mind, and soul.

As Emeric and Ivory continue their secret sexual relationships, they are aware that they must take caution of their love affair. While Emeric could lose his job, he doesn’t want Ivory to lose her opportunity in pursuing her dreams in attending that prestigious performing arts university. And so Emeric take precautionary measures to ensure that all his tracks are taken care of. But what happens when their secret is exposed? How far will Emeric go to protect Ivory? Will everything Ivory wanted and dreamed of be destroyed? Can their love prevail?

Dark Notes had everything that I hoped for and so much more in a student/teacher romance trope. This book had incorporated so much depth, vulnerability, raw emotions, sensuality, and dark erotic layers that it spotlighted what it truly meant to love. The story of Ivory and Emeric captures every essence of truth, loyalty, sacrifice and undying love. I loved that Pam Godwin didn’t make this your standard forbidden trope, but she made readers understand the motivation of Ivory and Emeric. They are far from perfect but together their love was perfect. It was real. There were no lies and misgivings. It’s honest. Imperfect. Sensual. Seductive. It was LOVE.

“That’s when I hear it. The tempo of our breaths. The drum of our heartbeats. The crackle in the air. The exquisite cadence pulses through me, awakening sensations I’ve never felt, composing a melody I’ve never heard. Our hypnotic, dark notes.”

I loved Dark Notes. This book hit every high note. The love of Emeric and Ivory is a beautiful melody that will resound to every romance book aficionado. This book was indeed like a well composed masterpiece. It started off with a melody that will entice and seduce readers then slowly Pam Godwin masterfully bewitches readers to feel the music, the story, the love that is blooming between her characters and of course, she ends her masterpiece with a dramatic flare that will make readers want to reread this book again. So if you are looking for a story that paints a beautiful literary tale of love, sensuality and seduction then I highly recommend you to read this book. Pam did an amazing job in capturing a beautiful love story with her poetic prose.

Dark Notes is hot, hot, HOT!!!! I haven’t read a GOOD erotic romance in ages, but Dark Notes totally satisfied the craving for me. Pam Godwin knows how to write steam, and she does it SO well in this book. Plus, it’s a forbidden romance, which only makes everything hotter. I was absolutely taken away with Ivory and Emeric’s forbidden love – I couldn’t put this book down! It’s an addicting, dark, captivating read that I highly recommend. If you love teacher/student romances, Dark Notes is a must read.

Ivory Westbrook is a highly gifted pianist and prodigy, and though she lives in poverty, she attends one of the most elite performing arts schools in order to hone her skill and one day escape from the cruelty and abuse she experiences at home. My heart felt for Ivory and the things she’s had to do to survive not just at home, but also at such a cutthroat school. But I also admired her strength, the way she fights for what she wants, and her tenacity. She’s almost on her way out and up to the top when the music teacher who would’ve recommended her to her dream university gets replaced… by a dark, dominating, compelling man she can’t stop thinking about.

Emeric Marceaux is an intimidating character. He’s an intense alpha used to getting what he wants – but what if what he wants is forbidden to him? Ivory fascinates him, and her heart-wrenching life only brings out the protective, possessive instincts in him. He wants her, but he also wants to give her the care and affection she’s never had in her life. Emeric is dark and dangerous, and as Ivory’s teacher and ten years her senior, I worried that he would have all the power. But it’s clear that he’s just as captivated and enthralled by her as she is by him.

Told in dual POV, Dark Notes weaves a fascinating, erotic tale of forbidden love between two characters who are utterly meant for each other but aren’t supposed to be together. Outside forces threaten to tear them apart, but Ivory and Emeric won’t let anything get in the way of a love that’s meant to be. I was at the edge of my seat the whole time reading, biting my nails while waiting to see how their relationship would work out. The flawless writing only made the entire reading experience better. It’s universally known that the more forbidden something is, the more desirable it becomes. I feel this truth like a fist around my balls as I enter my classroom after lunch and find the forbidden object of my desire waiting for me.

She’s exactly the kind of woman I’m drawn to. A woman who flees when hunted and comes alive when she’s caught. A woman who bends beneath the punishments and seeks acceptance in her humiliation. A woman who bites at the heavy hand, only to melt around the unforgiving grip when it cuts her air.

Dark Notes is a unique read full of passion, forbidden romance, and unforgettable characters. Pam Godwin has created a masterpiece once again!

Ivory is a young musician living in Treme, Lousiana. After surviving the brutal death of her father, she has been left alone to exist in a dark world. With a drug-addicted mother and an abusive brother, Ivory must do whatever it takes to pay the bills and survive. Her only saving grace is her passion for the piano. Before his death, her father assured that she would get the best fine arts education possible for her. Amidst the affluence of her peers and fellow artists, Ivory faces ridicule and bullying due to her circumstances. When she reports to school for her senior year, she is devastated to discover that her mentor and teacher have been replaced.

Emeric is a professional pianist who has found success performing and teaching. After leaving his previous school, due to alleged misconduct, he finds himself the piano instructor at a new prestigious school. His only obligation is to teach and promote the headmaster's son. However, when Emeric meets Ivory he realizes the dilemma to follow through on his arrangement is going to prove harder than he ever expected!

Ivory and Emeric don't waste any time connecting. As the intensity of their piano lessons increases the forbidden attraction between the two becomes unbearable to ignore. Although Ivory views herself as damaged goods, Emeric establishes himself as a protector for her. He is driven to help her achieve success as his student in both the music room and the bedroom!

Told in dual POV, Dark Notes offers a perfect blend of complex characters, a well-developed story arc, and unbridled passion that will leave the "BDSM (light)" fans salivating for more. Not only were both of the characters extremely likable but the circumstances were quite realistic and truly enhanced the reading experience. It was almost as if I could hear the music playing and feel the emotions of each scene. I was quite impressed with the loyalty and admiration of Emeric towards Ivory. Additionally, the supporting characters contributed to the depth of this story. I felt every ounce of terror and love they provided to the plot. Although Ivory was quite experienced, her innocence continued to remain in the background as a reminder that even broken people can be healed. Her dedication to her art and her love for her teacher made this journey unforgettable. The emotions evoked through each moment kept me engaged the entire read.

When it comes to anything written by Pam Godwin, I know I am in for a rare treat. A fan of passion, dark plots, and complex characters, Dark Notes truly delivers! And the delivery is full of crescendos, decrescendos, fortissimo and pianissimo dynamics. In other words, the music and passion in this read continues to play long after the last page is turned!

"In the depraved innards of my soul, I thrill at being the thing she fears. I want to claim her apprehension, dread, and uncertainty. I want to take ownership of all of her emotions and be the sole reason she trembles and cries."

With those words, Pam Godwin has written on my favorite student-teacher dark romances. DARK NOTES is in the same category as UNTEACHABLE by Leah Raeder, with the rapid, short sentence style and the hopeless, yet hopeful, heroine. But Mr. Emeric Marceaux in in a class by himself (pun intended!) with his dark, dangerous and commanding nature. He knows what he wants and will do anything to make that happen.

Ivory is a feisty, but dirt-poor music student who is out of her element at the expensive and elitist music school she attends. She is a senior and is trying desperately to make it to graduation so that she can secure a spot at a prestigious music academy. But she is the poorest student at the school, forced to do anything to survive. She barely has money for new shoes or the school uniform, let alone textbooks or the required tablet.

Emeric is one commanding and bossy man. Whew. I thought I knew what I was getting into with this book but my God, this man is irresistible. He never, ever mistreats Ivory, unlike most of the other men in her life, and his heart literally aches for the proud student who refuses to take charity from anyone.

“All you need is a moment...This brutal man is my home. His hell is my heaven. I’m his Ivory, and he’s my darkest note.”

Emeric became obsessed with Ivory and although he knew he had to stay away, they were both immediately connected and believe me, this girl needed his protection in the worst way. I love Emeric and was completely invested in him and his need to protect Ivory. This is without a doubt one of the sexiest forbidden love stories I've ever read.

There is a fantastic, brutal, emotional and violent storyline that is pure Pam Godwin. The New Orleans setting is perfection, and having lived there for many years, I am always thrilled when an author gets the setting of the story just right. New Orleans is almost another character in this book, with its humidity, class system, funky neighborhoods and diverse music scene.

Ivory is a feisty, strong heroine who will do whatever she needs to survive in her brutal world. She is no virginal, innocent heroine but she does have a refreshing honesty that I loved. Pam Godwin continues to be my go-to author for dark romance and DARK NOTES is just one more forbidden romance that hits all the right notes.

Do you know that intense, excruciating feeling you get when you are reading a story that has stolen everything from you? Your sight, because you can only see the world the author has created. Your voice, because you can't speak over the pulse pounding in your ears. Your taste, because nothing will come in the way of devouring every word written. The beautiful space between pain and pleasure...Dark Notes lives within that space. It was a complete, whole body experience that sliced me wide open until the final page was turned. This book can be categorized as wrong. As taboo. As a mixture of depravity and moral corruption. It is, in fact all of those things, but the author begs the question, what lies within those depths? When you push the moral corruption aside, what is left? A beautiful, broken, touched by the Gods talented girl who finds her other half. He just happens to be her teacher.

You have to remember to breathe while reading about Ivory and Emeric and their lives. There is so much intensity, the author grabs you by the throat and forces you to see visions that are not pretty. They are destructive and sad. They make you want to scream, "No, I don't want to see that! I can't bear any more." And then she pushes you even farther down the rabbit hole. With every meticulous word she lays out, the world around you blackens and all you feel is your pulse pounding. This is by far one of the most visceral stories I have had the pleasure of reading.

To say I recommend this story, would be a minimization of my true feelings for it. When you are ready for a story that will push your boundaries and open your eyes to beauty, pain, heartache, need, lust, and a driving truth that most aspire to, then you should open Dark Notes and bend to Pam Godwin's will.

Wow, I'm in awe of Pam Godwin. This was my first read from this gifted author and it was truly outstanding. The writing, GAH! So lyrical, beautiful and mesmerizing. This was not only one seriously sexy read but also captivating and titillating!
I truly got so swept up in this story, lost in the lyrically magical words, imagery and the depth of soul in these characters. I connected with this book on many levels. I love dark reads, dominant alphas, forbidden love, a strong heroine and a passionate love…this story had it all.
On top of all of this, Pam crafted this tale like a musical masterpiece with the notes perfectly arranged and beautifully delivered. I love music, all genres, from classical to rock to alternative to jazz, and all of this shone through in this dark story between teacher and student.
Ivory Westbrook is a musical prodigy attending a prestigious private school, one of the best in the country. She's living in a dark and dangerous world where to survive she must do despicable things and endure some horrific acts. Ivory is not fragile. She's strong, resilient and one formidable heroine.
Emeric Marceaux, a gifted professional pianist and new music teacher at Ivory's school, is one sexy, dark, dominant man. He arrives amidst whispers of his misconduct at his previous school and was hired by the headmistress solely for what he can do for her son. One look at Ivory and Emeric knows he's in trouble. These two have an intense and undeniable chemistry that plays a haunting, forbidden and sensual song.
Despite the risk, both are unable to stay away from each other and together, they embark on an adventurous, raw and sexy journey that had me spellbound.
This was dark, gritty and also beautiful. And the characters were so complex. The way Emeric plays Ivory's body and soul was deliciously naughty and oh so good. And despite the age difference and that Emeric is the teacher, Ivory truly has all the power. The balance between fragility and strength, dominance and submission, light and dark was evident throughout this flawlessly composed story.
I don't feel like I've done this book justice. I can say that this is one of my favourite reads for 2016 and I'll definitely be reading more Pam Godwin. Must Read!!

No longer just a forbidden temptation, but an important part of his life, Emeric will do anything to keep Ivory safe & with him. Their are many risks for them being together, but they continue to be essential to one another's happiness. I really enjoyed this one. It was a hot student/teacher romance. Ivory has her tragic life & then her dominant, passionate, kinky prince charming swoops in & steals her heart & changes her life for the better! Just LOVE Emeric!!! :D

Dark Notes by Pam Godwin is a darkish forbidden student/teacher romance.

Ivory Westbrook is a seventeen year old protege attending a prestigious private high school. She is from the wrong side of the tracks, dealing with poverty, abuse and has high hopes of getting into her dream school after graduation.

Emeric Marcaux, her new teacher, enters her life with a potential of crushing her dream.
He is rich, a famous pianist, heir to millions and the newest faculty member of Le Moyne Academy.

He also hides secrets, secrets that could potentially destroy them both.
The moment they meet there is this incredible pull and amazing chemistry.

"She’s in my veins, fiery and weightless. She’s in my head, like a whisper of promises. She’s in my heart, softening it, mending it, and making it pump again."

As they both fight the attraction, we learn more about the back stories of both characters. Ivory's incredible strength while facing the cruelty of her reality makes her resistance to Emeric nonexistent. It's as if they were notes from the start that were meant to be making music, forbidden music together.

Emeric has been hurt and betrayed, and with his student's innocence and eagerness to learn and please, he once again becomes the master.

"He fills so many voids in my life, and my desire for him only knits me closer, tighter to a world I’ve only dreamed about. A world where I interact with a man because I want to, because he cares about me as much as I care about him."

Emeric and Ivory's sexual exploration into darker intimacy will leave you blushing.
They heal each other's broken parts through touches and kisses, forbidden and hidden.
They create a sonata of soft melodies of exploration mixed with the dark desires of their souls. It's a music only they can hear as they slowly and deeply connect their hearts.

Will their sacrifices be enough at the end? Or will the forbidden fruit poison their love and bring down their heaven on earth?

I guess you will have to read to find out!!!

Enthralling and dark, from the very beginning I was engrossed in this book. I didn't want to look away, until I had to for just a minute. This is a forbidden student/teacher tale that goes places I never imagined.

Seventeen year old Ivory has been through more in her young life than most care to imagine. She lives in poverty but attends a prestigious high school for the arts. She is unloved and uncared for. She has done what she has needed to to survive, to survive her life and survive the snotty school she attends. She uses herself to barter with others and only has one goal; to make it to Leopard. She is a complex character; low self esteem yet feisty, used yet innocent, young yet an old soul. She doesn't know how to be anything but what she is and when she meets her new teacher her life is about to get more complicated.

Emeric Marceaux at first glance is a stone cold a$$. He comes with a laundry list of baggage and none of it good. He is taker and conniving. He has plans and counter plans, he plays life like a chess game always thinking five moves ahead. He is at Le Moyne Academy for one reason and his beautiful new student is going to crush his plans.

This book was intense and raw. There are times when heart bled for Ivory and the connection she makes with Emeric is soul deep. They are explosive, Ivory with her quick wit and Emeric with his dirty mouth. He becomes her teacher in more than music class, he teaches her things that they don't go over in high school. They both have damaging pasts and a relationship that can crush them. There were parts that were shocked me and even a few giggles could be heard.

There was something beautifully haunting about this story, every word needed to be devoured and absorbed. I fell in love with the way the words were written and how the story was told. The musicality of it was a constant throughout the whole book and it made everything just flow well together. This might just be my favorite dark reads of the year.

This was a super good read. It was one of them books where I just wanted to sit and read in one sitting but life got in the way.
When I wasn't reading this I was thinking about it. These characters got under my skin way too much but in a oh so good way.

Ivory is a fantastic character. Although she has nothing except her dreams she fights for what she wants. She is determined to accomplish her dads dreams for her.

Mr. Emeric Marceaux is her new music teacher. He don't need to work but music is his passion. He is hot and usually gets what he wants.

Is Emeric her knight in shining armour?

A really great student/ teacher story. I was wary about the music aspect to this story. However I really enjoyed it and shockingly to me I really enjoyed the music parts.

Another great read by this author. I'm looking forward to seeing what else she has in store for us.

5 fantastic musical stars.

There is so much about this book that I want to say and so much I want to keep to myself. I want readers to experience the intensity of this forbidden love story, feel the explosive chemistry and indulge in the decadent debauchery between Emeric Merceaux and Ivory Westbrook. Pam Godwin has magnificently detailed the secrets, pain and darkness surrounding Emeric and Ivory. In an all-consuming attraction these two lost souls transfer their passion into strength, resilience and an unrivaled level of determination. Bringing to life a gut-wrenchingly, beautiful love story.

In a unique telling of a student teacher romance, Emeric and Ivory meet at the prestigious Le Moyne Academy of Music. Starting at a new job Emeric is running from his past, keeping his secrets close and his enemies closer.

Ivory just wants to survive. Struggling to eat and pay her way through school Ivory is often caught in dangerous and life changing situations – her options are limited and the outcomes are always damaging. One more year in high school and maybe, the grass will be greener on the other side.

For Emeric it is lust at first sight, this gorgeous and mysterious young woman sets alight a flame inside his body that refuses to be extinguished and Ivory. She is battling with feelings she has never felt before. Steering away from dominant and possessive men, her attraction to Emeric is unexplainable but most certainly undeniable.

In a raw and gritty depiction of love, Godwin focuses on the love that transcends between Emeric and Ivory and not their circumstances. Their connection is palpable and inescapable. Risking everything to feed their addiction to one another Pam Godwin writes of a connection so deep and so fierce, you can feel it in your bones. In an exemplary depiction of heat, desire and seduction Pam Godwin turns secrets into honesty, shame into respect and lust into love.

OH, HOW I WISH I COULD READ THIS STORY AGAIN FOR THE FIRST TIME!
Pam Godwin blew my mind. Dark Notes was unique and incredible and WOW WOW WOW. This is not your typical taboo Student/Teacher romance. This was so much more. Ivory and Emeric, were real. They had so much passion, and so much soul, I'm amazed they are just fictional characters. I don't play piano but holy hell I wish I did! . I fell for Ivory and her past hard. Everything she went through in her life was emotional and raw. you Don't hear of these kind of details often and I was in a time warp while reading. I just kept turning those pages with little breaks in between.
Godwin wrote with passion and knowledge. Her attention to detail made this story and these characters so real. Dark Notes is now on my list of all time favorite reads!

One thing is for sure, this book is HOT! Emeric and Ivory made these pages sizzle. Emeric is rich, sexy and intense, Ivory is a tough girl that is living a rough life, but determined to reach her goal.

If you love student/teacher romance then look no further, this book is for you.

I had some trouble with the believability of this story, so I have to go with 3.5-4 stars. However, that did not stop me from reading, I was constantly telling myself “one more chapter” and the next thing I knew, I had finished the book.

If this is how Pam Godwin writes, then I'm hooked!
This story is so much more than a teacher/student taboo romance: is seduction and pure attraction between the notes of a symphony of lust, love, respect and desire.

Ivory is this mature teenager, whose life isn't been easy... at all!
After being unconsciously raped, she seeks for affection, finding it on Emeric, her new professor, in a school where she's not welcome and her talent is begrudged, but she has an ambition: to go to the best college that there is, with a scholarship much needed for her, and nothing will stop her...
Emeric is stunned by Ivory beauty and talent, and after understanding her real problems, he starts protecting her and the attraction he tries to hide becomes a problem itself... until they both surrender to the lust and magnetism that wraps around them...

The characters are so strong, the dance between right and wrong so enthralling. Although being mature for her age, Ivory is so naive in so many aspects, that makes Emeric perfect for her. With his dominance and control, he shows her the beauty between a man and a woman, who respects and care for each other.
His dirty mouth is something else... making him a very delightful man, full of surprises.

One of the many things that I loved in this story was the music. I could almost hear the music playing in the pages of this book. Yes, I searched and heard them imagining the characters actions. Beautiful!
I never imagined the end as it was and that was a perfect surprise for me!

Sometimes I worry when I see that the heroine is a teenager. I mean, sure, I remember being a teenager and having sex but do I really want to read about it?
But the synopsis of this book drew me in. I mean, I love the New Orleans setting and I am not sure that I have read a book, at least not lately, where the Hero is a concert pianist/super hot teacher.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the man that is Emeric Marceaux?..............................................

First, sure he’s a kinky fecker! He has some issues with his past, but don’t F with this man if you value your life. He plays hardball. Mess with those he loves, he will take you down.

Then you have poor, sweet but not innocent Ivory. Since she was 13 she has been abused, raped, neglected. She has to sink to some pretty low levels just to make ends meet for her worthless mother and POS brother.

Emeric see’s something in her and he could care less about what she’s had to do, he only wants her for who she is. They dance around each other, share some pretty tense moments. But he tries to stay away. I mean, he IS her teacher. But then it comes to a moment when he can no longer stay away. He has to save her, protect her, keep her safe. And he does just that, the only way he knows how. By being a dominant male.

I thought for a hot minute that his ex was going to be more of a problem that she was, and I was glad that part of the story resolved itself quickly.

All in all I really, really liked this book. It was written very well, and the character development was great

Dark Notes by Pam Goodwin is an amazingly written book. I went into this book thinking that I have never read a teacher/student romance and didn't know what I would feel about an older man falling for an underage girl. Well, let me tell you, I LOVED IT!! I know that it has everything to do with Pam Goodwin's writing style and the way she made it feel as if the characters were made for each other (which I guess they were, haha). The emotional connection I felt to the characters in this book was astounding. From the very first page to the last I was captivated. I have already and will continue to recommend this book to every single person I talk to. 5 amazingly dark noted stars!

I love everything that Pam has written and Dark Notes is no exception. From the beginning this story gripped me and I was hooked from the first page.
Ivory was such the perfect contradictory of vulnerability and strength. There were so many times I wanted her to stand up to those who took advantage of her, but you understand why she can't. She feels she is a victim of circumstance and this is what she has to do to obtain her dream. She is wise beyond her years compared to her classmates and somehow manages to hold her own against their sneers and comments. The one thing she wasn't counting on was Emeric, her teacher.
He was such a mystery to me for a good part of the book. He was brooding, almost angry at times, yet there was something about him that had me wanting more. I couldn't quite figure him out at first. I can see why Ivory was intrigued.
I loved the chemistry between the two of them. With Emeric, Ivory could let go, she didn't have to think, and she could let him have control. He was the one thing in her life that she did with reckless abandon. She was the one thing in his life he would do anything to protect. This book is so much more than rich guy saves poor girl. It's about trust, and finding the one person that will be what you need, when you need it. It's less about control and more about finding your own path.
There is so much more I could say but I don't want to spoil it for you. You need to experience this beautiful story on your own.

Dark Notes is a tale that just sweeps you away, it is beautiful and tragic and seductive—a trinity of temptation. This is just one of those tales that you brace for, it isn't a fairytale, rather a nightmare where an unconventional Prince cHarming saves you from the hell you live in and does everything in his power to keep you safe...just not safe from him. You have to check reasoning and inhibitions at the door, and take this story for what it is, a love that lives by no rules or boundaries. They march to the beat of their own drum, making no apologies for who they are and what they do. I loved them just as much independently as they were together, of course when they together it tends to lead to lots of erotic heat, (not like that is a bad thing, lol).

Ivory is a survivor, never loosing sight of her dream, not letting her hell get in the way. Emeric, I loved from the start, he is cocky and controlling, Mr. Take Charge with all the right answers. He did right by her and I was beyond thrilled for Ivory as she deserves someone just like him. As dark as this story is, in my opinion it was well balanced, going through the emotions; anger, hate, disgust, sorrow, happiness, hope, love and laughter. This book left it's mark on me and even after a couple days their story is still fresh in my mind. I highly recommended this to my friends who are romantics at heart that like a healthy dose of darkness thrown in.

I made the mistake of starting this on a Thursday night... I went to work with 2 hours of sleep because I couldn't stop reading this story. And when I tried to fall asleep, I just kept thinking of what was going to happen next!

Ivory, a 17 year old piano student, attended one of the best schools because of her talent and because her tuition was paid in full when she was younger. Unfortunately, things fell apart in her family, and she had to do some shameful things to pay the bills.

Emeric Marceaux was the new Head Music Instructor at the school. When he spotted Ivory on his first day, he was instantly attracted to her. Disappointment flooded him when he found out she wasn't part of the faculty.

As the days went on, he noticed signs of abuse. Even though he knew he needed to stay away from her, he couldn't get her out of his mind. Emeric's personality will melt your panties. He's dominate, intelligent, and strong. He's also very creative in the bedroom.

Because of Ivory's abuse, Emeric took his time to make sure she was comfortable. When Ivory was able to trust him, the chemistry between them was explosive.

I fell in love with the plot and characters instantly. This was the first book I've read from Pam Godwin. And because of Dark Notes, she has become one of my favorite authors. I can't wait to read her other works!

This is a tough review. Only because this is a forbidden romance. It isn’t supposed to happen. But, I think that Emeric Marceaux – the teacher, saved Ivory Westbrook- the student. Bad things continued to happen to her after her father died. Fortunately, her father thought ahead and invested in her future. Ivory is very gifted in her ability to play the piano. She takes after her father. Now Ivory was just in survival mode. She was forced to do things just to live. In walks Emeric and he rescued her from the life she was just surviving from. Now that is all I am going to say about this book. I loved their story.

I received a complimentary gift for an honest review. This book kept my attention from start to finish. I love reading Pam Godwin’s books to me she is a must read author. I give Dark Notes 5 stars. I loved the book and this author.

He's it for me. The zenith of my happiness. All roads, however perilous and winding, lead to this man, my teacher, the music of my soul.

I absolutely loved this book. This is not your typical student/teacher romance. I've read a lot of taboo romances and I love them. Dark Notes was written so well that you didn't feel like a creep reading it. It's a beautiful, dark, emotional book that you'll never forget!

Ivory is such a strong character. No matter what she went through she stayed strong through it all. She didn't let anything get her down. Ivory didn't lose her voice that you see so often with abuse victims even though she withdrew sometimes she always came back. I related to her on so many levels.

Emeric is a man that knows what he wants and we see him battling with himself to do what's right. He knows Ivory is a forbidden fruit he shouldn't take a bite from. He tries to stay away. But does he succeed? That you'll have to read and find out!

Overall Dark Notes is fantastic!! It's on of my top favorite reads of 2016! This book deserves so much more than 5 stars! It deserves 10 stars and beyond! If you love taboo romances with dark elements then you'll love Dark Notes! Pam Godwin didn't disappoint!

This is the book that got me started on Pam. It was fantastic and lovely and dirty and angsty and everything else that makes a good romance. It's an exploration of sexuality and of love and what it takes to make it work. There is conflict and drama but none of it is there just for the sake of conflict and drama. It is the perfect amount of everything in my book.

It is forbidden love at its finest, Emeric and Ivory are two enigmatic characters that drag you in and make you root for them and their love.

If you’re looking for a steamy read with complex characters and forbidden love, Dark Notes is the perfect book for you! The poetic language, suspense, and steamy sex scenes make this Pam Godwin’s best work to date.

The story is written in dual POV between Ivory Westrook and Emeric Marceaux. Ivory is an exceptional pianist who lives in poverty with her abusive brother and addict mom after the death of her father who left all of his money as tuition for Ivory to attend the prestigious Le Moyne Academy. But it’s not enough to pay the bills, so Ivory must do desperate things to keep the family’s home. She endures violence and terrible men, but escapes in her mind to the music she lives for, and prevails. When she meets Emeric, her new instructor at the school, sparks fly instantly. He’s wealthy and can help her escape the terrible situation she’s in, but he’s her teacher and she’s only seventeen, so he could be thrown in jail for becoming involved with her. That doesn’t stop him, however, and he turns into her savior despite his own complicated past full of drama with women. Sexual tension between the two is off the charts, and the sex scenes are incredible, but it’s not just about sex. This is a love story.

The language Godwin uses is beautiful and full of musical references to the love song humming between Emeric and Ivory. It’s clear she did her research on piano playing and music for this book, and it added an unforgettable romantic twist to the story. In the end, the characters must overcome many obstacles to be together and the HEA ends up being the best part of their love song.

This book will stay with you long after you finish it, and you’ll want to read it again. I recommend Dark Notes highly and rate it with five bright, shining stars!

This is a intense dark romance. This complex story of a student/teacher romance is filled with deep and powerful emotions and themes. Be aware that this book does have content that could be triggers for some and others will just find objectionable (older man/younger woman, student/teacher, BDSM, physical abuse, sexual abuse and drug use). I was completely captivated by Ivory and Emeric's story. I found it to be poignant, painful, beautiful and heartbreaking. Not for everyone but if you enjoy dark & forbidden romances you should give it a try. This is my honest, voluntary review.

I haven't read a student/teacher romance before, so I was a little hesitant about starting Dark Notes, but am I glad I dived in. I really enjoyed this book. So many times I just wanted to reach through the pages and give Ivory a big hug and say I'm so sorry for the horrible stuff that you had happen to you.

The 4 1/2 STARS and not 5 stars was mainly because Emeric's inner thoughts about Ivory come off a little "creepy" in the beginning to me, but that icky feeling dissipated the more I read. I also thought that the ending was just a tad unrealistic. I won't say anything more on that because it would be a spoiler.

Overall I thought Ivory and Emeric make great music together. They are each others bright light in their dark worlds.

This story was so dang HOT and STEAMY and SEXY...

I couldn't put this book down once I started. Pam Godwin wrote a BRILLIANT story of a forbidden romance one could only dream of. She had me wishing I had an Emeric Marceaux of my own...or at least wishing I learned piano for some "private" lessons.

This book had be hot and bothered the whole time and kept me on the precipice of H*RNY from start to finish!

My mother was right. I DO regret quitting those piano lessons.

Dark Notes is an exquisite romance between piano student Ivory Westbrook and her domineering master teacher, Emeric Marceaux. He scares her, he punishes her, and he possesses her—all to the stunning cadence of Pam Godwin’s beautiful words. Music bleeds through every emotion and thrums through every action, making this book feel as much like a song as a novel. I couldn’t get enough. Never has a grand piano been so seductive and classic rock so hypnotizing.

Pam Godwin has done the impossible. Not only did she convince me a student/teacher romance is a good thing, but she made me WANT to take piano lessons again!

This Book Was Pure Perfection, and The writing Gorgeous ! The kind of book you devour, but savor every single detail printed in its pages. IT BLEW ME AWAY!!

At first sight, the cover enthralled me. It may sound ridiculous for some, but it did spoke to me, it got to me. The story is so unpredictable, entertaining and intriguing. An automatic page turner.

Dark Notes is beautifully well-written; with a great plot, twists and turns. The story itself was fast-paced, breathtakingly amazing, romantic and poetic. So emotional. It was an utterly amazing, passionate, sexy steamy ride I'll never forget.

The concept of forbidden love is so tempting, magnetic and captivating; however, this beautiful story is so much more than that. Great memorable characters. I adored Emeric and Ivory the most. They were definitely destined for one another.

It was an honor reviewing this amazing story, one I absolutely LOVED.

I never say this on any of my reviews, but I really do encourage you to grab this book and get to know this amazing characters and their beautiful story that will touch you deeply.

This is a very dark and twisted but compelling book. The main character, Ivory, is an aspiring pianist with dreams of attending an elite performing arts college. She has a terrible home life that is horrible to read about. Ivory finds a champion in her teacher, Emeric Marceaux, who is not typically seen as a hero character. Emeric is a very dark and tortured character living in a privileged world. Ivory has suffered so much throughout her life and Emeric is the only person that tries to protect her. The writing is excellent and I could not stop reading this book until I knew the conclusion. Highly recommend it.

Don't know where to start with this review. To say I was riveted from the beginning is an understatement. This is the first student-teacher story I have read and even though it is a taboo subject, because of Ivory's history, it doesn't feel as if she is being taken advantage of. In fact, Emeric is very much her saviour. Emeric made me look at his lifestyle choices in a completely different light, he is a very strong willed, determined character that had me rooting for him from the beginning. I loved getting in to his mindset. Ivory is not the pathetic, needy character that she could be considering all that she has faced, abused by both her family and her peers. Both characters complimented each other completely, even though their upbringings could not have been any more extreme. I could not fault the writing, and the story had me guessing to the very end. What I thought might happen, didn't, and what I never saw coming, came! Told in dual POV. A full hot/sizzling 5 stars.

As much as I enjoy dark reads, there is always some reticence on my part when it comes to reading them. I sometimes feel that the need to shock readers takes away from the quality of the story. Dark Notes is a stunning read and a beautiful love story. Pam Godwin’s writing was emotive and sensual and like a piece of music that draws you in, I felt every beat and every note.

With the subject matter such as it is, it feels a strange thing to enthuse about how much I loved this story. Pam Godwin’s Dark Notes is like a dark, disconcerting piece of music that transforms into a beautiful melody that brought tears to my eyes. It enthralled and moved me. It owned me. It spoke to my sensibilities as a reader and a human being.

Like any good piece of music, it stayed with me a long time after it was after. Without a shadow of a doubt, one of my favourite reads of the year.

I absolutely LOVED this book. What a great forbidden romance with lots of passion, love, turmoil, trust, and heat. When you think no one cares, there's always that one person to pull you through. It just may not be who you expect it to be. Emeric with loving and supportive parents who trust him to know what he's doing to find his own happiness. Ivory with crap for a family and no support left to find her own way through hell. The music, the Dark Notes, it's all there for them. Passion, so much passion. Gush, I could go on. Love love loved it!

LOVE EMERIC AND IVORY!!!!!! Even their names together sound poetic!!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Pam Godwin and this book is why. She knows how to mix the risqué and romance just right so they just go together effortlessly. As I've come to expect with her books and this one is no exception.....it's five alarm HOT!!!! I also found myself a bit emotional a time or two which caught me off guard, but I loved it. This book is just fantastic! If you like the naughty and the nice definitely recommend this one!!!

This book felt different for me and I liked it. Every time I read a new book I think this is the best and every time I'm wrong because the next one more phenomenal. I absolutely love her flow. She takes you from point A to point B is the best kinda hot and sexy ways. Her writing, I think is one of the best out there. I can't count how many books and I'm like wtf are you even talking about. Pam's book make sense and are easy to get lost in. I would definitely recommend this book. Even if your thinking teacher/student, age... I think you will be pleasantly surprises how well she made this work without making it creepy.

I was lucky enough to win a copy of Dark Notes through a Goodreads giveaway, and damn. This book blew me away.

I normally binge read anything I find myself enjoying, but this I had to savour. With just the right balance of darkness, eroticism and romance, Dark Notes took all my preconceptions and misgivings (I've never read student/teacher before) and drop-kicked them out of the window. Pam's writing is beautiful and sexy as hell. Ivory is an exquisite heroine with a not so happy past, but she's tough and pragmatic - I couldn't help but admire her. And Emeric? Emeric is pure domineering, protective, alpha perfection - eroticism personified. I was fully invested from the very first page, and Ivory and Emeric's journey sent me on a rollercoaster of a ride that certainly didn't disappoint. I actually felt a little bit stunned and out of phase with the real world once I'd finished, which doesn't happen very often. You know you've read a good book when you spend weeks thinking about it.

I just finished this and i am so happy to say THAT I LOVED LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH THAT I SKIPPED ALL MY IMPORTANT WORK!

It was addicting. Getting in the mind of Emeric was intoxicating and interesting. If I would like to be a man for one day, it would be him. OMG! He was so sweet in his own way. I fell in love with the way he was with Ivory. I understood his struggles, his dark passion and his need. He saw beyond the exterior of Ivory to understand her. He didn't judge her, he cared for her, took her wishes into consideration. I really adored Ivory, she was funny, intelligent and caring even after her mother neglecting her, her brother and all the idiots she met with.

I would highly recommend this book to everyone who loves a good story, interesting characters!!!

This beautifully written 5 star musically noted book has been placed on my "favorite books of all time" shelf. You don't have to be musically inclined to read this book. You just need to have a heart and know that sometimes before you get to the good in life, you're likely to have to go through the bad.

I absolutely LOVED this book!

Wow. Just wow. Here I'm, sitting and clapping. And just wow. This story is so complex, so shocking, so elevating and so...everything. Pam Godwin composed the greatest teacher-student story. Ever.

I couldn't put it down. But really, I didn't want to. This book's impressed me.
It touched my very soul.

It's way more than a simply teacher-student story. It's so much deeper.

The characters are brilliant
My heart was bleeding for Ivory. She was so strotng, so proud while she went through hell.
And Emeric...I simply love him. Not from the very first time but the second. They are one of my favorite couples.

The ending was perfect. As was the book itself. I need more stories like this.

Found it difficult to get into at the beginning and gave up. Then went back to it and tried again. After the first 10% or so, I got into it somewhat. I didn't like the H.; he was monotone and boring. Not sexy, dark, mysterious at all. She was okay but still I couldn't 'warm' to her either. The premise for the story didn't gel with me; I just couldn't believe it but that's probably due to there being lack of detail and little explanation. There's a flimsy reason given for why she's not liked by her mother and brother. <spoiler>Ostensibly it's about her dad selling his business, while alive, and buying her a future place at a Music College - then he dies?? It's just too weird; like why would he leave his wife destitute? Although securing his daughter a place in a music college, what about her being destitute otherwise, too? Really stupid. </spoiler>

The Alpha just came across as a wuss to me. He was making all kinds of crazy mistakes in his life; over and over again. His parents were really supportive of their crazy son and his 'choices' too; unbelievable. <spoiler>Especially when his mother suggested his dad was a 'sadist' too, over the breakfast table with dad sitting right there; like you'd do that, wouldn't you?!</spoiler>

At around 60% it became ludicrous as it's revealed he's a millionaire, 'cause you have to be don't you? No you don't. Whitney Bianca's first book, I Know What Love Is, has a great Alpha and he's a construction worker! Here the Alp's buying her Porsches and designer wardrobes, and it's all just so effing boring and clichéd. It feels like this stuff is just 'there' to fill gaps. The sex between them left me cold; the author was trying to build suspense and excitement, but it felt forced. There was no suspense or excitement.

I'm disappointed with Miss Godwin, as she authored 2 of my favourite books, with one of my favourite Alp's: Vanquish and Deliver. Brilliant books: brilliant plots; brilliant characters. This is a pale comparison. Ultimately very forgetful, and I would not recommend it.

This story is about a girl named Ivory she has anything but a normal life. The only person who loved her, died and that was her father, her mom a junkie, her brother a jerk . And she was left to figure out how to support them, how to keep a roof over their head, how to feed them. Because the only money they had her father paid for her to go to school in a special school for musicians. The First time Emeric her teacher saw her he felt something . He tried to stay away but he couldn't. There Was no turning back. This Story has quite a few twist and turns you will not want to put this book down. Although there were times I felt like was a mild version of Fifty Shades of Grey, younwill not be disappointed

I LOVE this book!!!! Let me start by saying I'm not usually a fan of "high school relationship" reads, but this book blew me away! The writing was so good that I often forgot about the age thing. I really loved the book. It was my first forbidden romance, as well as my first Pam Godwin read and I am pleasantly surprised. At first I thought to myself, what in the heck did I just start reading, but quickly fell in tune with the two main characters. I didn't want to put the book down because I was so eager to find out what played out with Emeric and Ivory. I like the evolution of their love story and amiss the drama that did play out, I semi wish they had to hurdle more obstacles with their relationship. All in all. I would definitely recommend this read!

How far would you go, how much would you risk for love? Emeric and Ivory are willing to risk it all. A dark romance with some BDSM between a teacher and student. Ivory has to overcome a past full of sexual abuse, can she learn to trust and love? Emeric is her teacher who is putting it all on the line for a future with Ivory. Pam knocked it out if the park with this book!

This was a dark, teacher-student romance, that was really good. It was, in turns, dark, sexy, taboo, full of angst and heartbreak, yet still full of hope. Ivory had a horrendous, abusive home life, yet still managed to stay positive, focused and driven, and kept a smile on her face most days to boot. I loved Ivory. Emeric was dark and intense, broody and sexy and intimidating. It kept my attention thru the whole book, definitely worth reading!

This is my first book by Pam Goodwin and she turn me into a fan. Dark Note is a book like no other teacher book I have every read. This book is very will written and you will get sucked into it by the 1st chapter. You don't want to miss it. I don't do spoilers in book but just know you will fall in love with both of characters. It full of love and sinful sex. So don't miss out because you regret it.

This dark taboo romance was truly a heartbreaking story for me. Irvory is the 17 year old girl who is the center of this book. She is truly talented on the piano but is taken advantage by her family and her peers. Emeric is her teacher and savior. The story does contain BDSM elements. This is my first book by Pam Goodwin and I look forward to reading more of her books.

My first Pam Godwin book and I really enjoyed this taboo teacher/student story. I never put it down and it kept me reading till the very end. This story was erotic, intense, forbidden and at times dark. So now lets talk about Emeric or Mr. Marceaux he was all male and knew what and who he wanted from the very start and he played it like he played the piano with perfect melody.

You know a book is good when you are not even half way through and you are already thinking of people to recommend it to!! This book was that good!! I absolutely loved it!! There are some major triggers in this book but I promise if you can get through them, it will be so worth it. This author was able to take a story about a teacher and his student and deliver a very capitulating tale of heart break, innocence stolen, trust, forgiving, love, sorrow and determination!! This is a story like it has ever been told before that will leave you with smile on your face and a glow within your soul!! Must Read!!!

Hauntingly Beautiful. Exquisite. Erotic. Moving.
Ivory and Emeric... sizzle with music from the heart.
One of the most passionate stories with music. In a forbidden romance with danger and violence, love has no limits - well actually there is one. And I love how Emeric accepted it and didn't push his own sexual agenda. EMERIC IS EVERYTHING!!!!!

Holy alpha male! Pam Godwin can write a great alpha male and that's what we get with Emeric. He is sexy, dark, in control and can take charge. Ivory is strong, knows what she wants and where she is going as long as she can overcome all the obstacles that have been placed in her way. This is a dark twisted bdsm that is written in dual POVs and it's written wonderfully. When I started this book I knew I would enjoy it because I love all Pam's book but Dark Notes took it all a step closer and pushed the line. I'm going to have a major book hangover tomorrow.

Genre: Dark Erotic Romance
Type: Standalone
POV: First Person - Dual

“All you need is a moment...This brutal man is my home. His hell is my heaven. I’m his Ivory, and he’s my darkest note.”

Ivory Westbrook; at only seventeen years old had a dream and a purpose. The life she was given was awful and horrible. In the midst of her horrible reality she had only one thing that kept her going her addiction and talent to play the piano and make it to the best college there is. At only thirteen years of age her life came crashing down after the death of her father. Her mother and brother resented her for the sacrificed her father had done for her; he had made sure that she had a full four year paid tuition to the best music school in New Orleans. Now with no money and no help from her family she finds herself doing anything she can for four years to make mends means and just survive even if that meant selling services.

This book was filled with so much emotions, suspense, secrets and kinky hotness. The chemistry between Ivory and Emeric was amazing and will have you so hot and bothered in all places. Ivory’s life situation will have you hurting so much it will pain you deep so deep i am still hurting to know how strong she was even thought she was given a horrible reality of life. She had no friends, no family to care for her only her cat and her dream to make her father proud to be the best pianist there is. The lights, the music, to be in stage was her dream.

Emeric became obsessed and possessive of Ivory from the first day he saw her. He knew he had to stay away but she was different like anything he had ever seen. Emeric felt the need to be his protector and I love that man. I mean he went above and beyond to take care of her to help her heal and set her free from her nightmares. I literally have no word of how much I love this man.

If you are looking for a fast paced story; with so much hotness; intense sexy scenes; dark situations and forbidden love you have found it. This book right here will have you asking yourself who on earth is fifty shades again?! I mean this book has everything I look for in a book. So much deep emotions, so much suspense, so many sad situations but you will find a HOT man that will do anything bound the consequences to care for the woman he loves and a strong heroine that will do anything it takes to survive and make her lover happy. I have so much feels and love for this story.

A copy was gifted to me by author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you so much.

Ivory is young and beautiful and comes from a really bad home life. She is a musical prodigy and all she wants is to get the best education for her talent and play her piano. She wants to escape her family and the town where she lives. In comes a new music teacher. Emeric Marceaux is handsome, charming, and he wants Ivory in a way that a teacher should never want a student, especially when that teacher has the needs that this one does. This is a forbidden romance that is beautifully written and I could not put it down.

**Copy received in advance for a voluntary review.**

**No spoilers but my review may feel spoilery if you want to go into the story blind.**

I didn't love this as much as I thought I would. It started out great. Ivory lives in an abusive home in an underprivileged and dangerous neighborhood in New Orleans. But thanks to her father's foresight and her amazing talent, Ivory gets to attend a prestigious high school of the arts. She has big dreams of a better life.

Emeric is now teaching at Ivory's school. After being involved in a scandal at his previous place of employment, he had to make an unsavory deal with the Dean for his new position. Once it all unraveled I was thinking, "Oooh, this is gonna be good!" Wrong.

There were so many layers to this story that were fleshed out nicely in the beginning but then it was kind of all over the place and finally just fell flat. The angst was non-existent and so was the climax. Everything wrapped up too quickly and in an unexpected way. Not the good kind. There were just too many things that didn't make sense.

If you're a fan of Godwin you know the woman can write one helluva sex scene but I was unimpressed with the BDSM aspect. This book is NOT dark, so if you're expecting it to be you'll be disappointed. Also, when it's a teacher/student romance you've got to make sure it sways more to the side of soulmates rather than sexual predator and I'm not so sure that was achieved. Emeric was willing to risk everything...again. And he barely resisted. It seemed unlikely especially after what he just went through. Still a fan of Godwin but this book was a miss for me.

Dark Notes has a taboo teach/student storyline. (Not typically my favorite) Pam Godwin does a great job with making you feel the emotions of her characters. There were a few areas when actions didn't quite match up, hence the 4⭐️ But overall a worth it read!

the sex was awesome
the characters were well developed
a classic story told perfectly
no stupid leaps of reality

Things I didnt like:
Nothing. Seriously, this was basically a perfect book. If you have any interest in dark erotica/taboo relationships then this is a very easy purchase.

I read a lot (5-7 books per week). Before I read Dark Notes I had 2 books on my mental Best Books of 2016 list. Now I have 3.

Dark Notes begins with Ivory; a poor and abused girl from Treme who is attending a prestigious music school thanks to her father securing her position. Ivory’s background was horrible and sad. It was kind of a Cinderella story; with her father gone she is left in the hands of her monstrous family. Her prince comes in the form of Emeric Marceaux her new music instructor. Emeric has just left another school after a scandalous fall out and he has made a deal with the head of Ivory’s school to teach.

I had a hard time with both Ivory and Emeric. Ivory is giving her all to make sure she graduates and I mean her ALL. I was really hopeful for her to do some amazing things to change her life. Emeric seems determined to not repeat his mistakes but upon meeting Ivory this goes out the window. His motives confused me at times and I think he confused Ivory with this mixed signals.

Ivory to me had more potential and I didn’t feel it was brought out. To some extent it turned into the rich guy saving the poor girl and that disappointed me. Ivory leaving a dangerous and ugly situation straight into Emeric’s arms all seemed too easy. I wanted more passion and love to connect them. Emeric seemed focused on making Ivory his and saving her but with lots of sex, money, and things.

The events with Lorenzo tied up too neatly and I am surprised there weren’t more twists here. Godwin is awesome at the twists and turns and I didn’t get that.

As always Ms. Godwin’s writing is fluid and she crafts her words so well I can’t help but be drawn in. Unfortunately I didn’t love this as much as I wanted too. I am still a big fan and I will anxiously await her next release.

First time with this author, and I can't even begin to describe how much I loved this dark romance. Hottest book I have read in a while. Pam, thank you for not being afraid to go there, over that line of boundaries and taboo. And thank you for staying true to Emeric and Ivory. Another reviewer said Ivory was a doormat, but I loved her true submissive nature to Emeric, and that she wasn't a sassy smart mouth. And Emeric, he was amazing. It wasn't obvious a female author created him, such as the case with so many other books. When these heros start spouting one cheese ball line after another, it's so obvious a woman wrote the book. But in this case I felt he was Emeric through and through. There are only 4 other books I will read again soon, because I read so many books to be reading the same one twice. But this is definitely on the read again list.

It's safe to say i was completely emotionless and just a tiny bit uninterested when i was reading this book. I felt zero connection with any of the characters, Nada.
Ivory was a very lackluster heroine, she was unappealing to me in every way. She had been dealt a heavy hand ever since her dad died leaving her with a neglectful mother and a jerk of a brother who she takes care of by selling her body. She also wishes to attend a good college and any hint of scandal would ruin her chances.

Enter Emeric, her teacher who doesn't understand the word 'Privacy'. He had been fired from his job after being caught in flagrante delicito with a colleague . He is hired for the express reason of helping the dean's son get into the same school Ivory is gunning for. He sees Ivory and she's all he can think about. He watches her, stalks her basically and decides she is going to be "his"(creepy).

We are then given little back stories, some that make sense and others that don't.
His mother talking about how much she enjoys when his father spanks her, i guess that was to tide over the lack of family drama in this book. Unnecessary though. Joanna coming to the hospital with a bun in her oven and him saying if she could blah blah blah then she might be lying about blah blah blah. Also necessary A couple of details like that just seemed like cliches.

Ivory and Emeric, bleh. I did not even feel one sizzle of attraction between them. Ivory did not have good judgement when it came to men and i feel like it was never entirely resolved, it just got glossed over when Emeric entered the picture. She seemed very weak when it came to making tough decisions.

I felt Ivory just moved from sleeping with everyone to sleeping with Emeric without every discovering herself, she hopped from one pot to another. Emeric using his BDSM skills to heal/build her back up. Literally every BDSM book i have read never have two normal people, one of the characters have some 'dark blown out of proportion' pain and usually its the male character that thinks the key to solving her problem is in his pants. Every single time! It takes out the pleasure of reading.

First book I have read by Pam Godwin and she has my hooked.

Dark Notes is a very well written love story, between a sexy naughty alpha teacher and Ivory not an innocent young girl but a girl who does what she has to do to survive.

This story will draw all of your emotions in, blur the lines between right & wrong and leaving you smiling with joy.

****kinda sorta some spoilers READ REVIEW AT YOUR OWN RISK***

This book was unfortunately a slow start for me. In the beginning I was sure where this story was going to go. About 29% in I finally got hooked enough to want to find out the ending. Emeric was this dark broody teacher who is basically a Hard core DOM totally twist for a teacher student romance. Ivory ... Well she's a 17 year old student when dreams of escaping her hometown. Same ol song and dance you always hear right? That's when I started skimming.... But THEN! Some new gets out and things shift a little. Now I definitely don't think this is the best book by Pam and I love her dark side but this book was too fluffy for her usual writing style so that's mainly where the disappointment came from. All in all I enjoyed the characters and finding out more about them. This story ends with a perfect little bow on top.

I'm half way through this book and doubtful of finishing. This is a book about a 17yr old rape victim enduring sexual assault and manipulation from one character and non-consensual sexual domination from the "hero". He talks about consent but his action belie his words. It's depressing that other reviewers find this a sexy book.

I could only make it through a few chapters of this. It's sick and twisted, and not in an entertaining way. The main character doesn't even bother standing up for herself in school, instead she encourages them to think she's slutty. She's not really smart, but then again she's still technically a child.

The male lead is totally unlikable. He IS creepy, and controlling, and not at all sexy. He gets turn on by thoughts of whipping Ivory. This story is not about a healthy or romantic relationship at all. It's disturbing and sick.

I did not read this story, I found it randomly while searching for positive sexual books on the store. I just wanted to point out that this story involves ephebophilia; a high school male teacher is attracted to and has a relationship with his 17-year-old female student.
