As the sequel to Corrupt i had high ecpectations. Even more after reading the Fall Away Series. This book is everything it could be. Pen has a way of making these stories come to life. Making these stories believable. I cant wait for Damons book. But especially Wills.

I hardly write reviews anymore. I'm definitely a reader not a writer; but Hideaway deserves a review. A glowing one. Corrupt was my top read of 2015 and Hideaway takes the top spot for 2017.
In Hideaway, we get Kai's story. And Banks'. But we get so much more... I love that the plot continues from Corrupt. We learn so much more about all the characters we loved and loathed, lusted after and feared. Penelope Douglas creates a unique feeling with her books unlike any author I've ever read. Since Corrupt, I've been a Damon fan ... but Kai....dammmn. He snuck up on me. And Banks grew on me. I liked her fierceness and attitude.
This book surpassed my expectations, and while it didn't end like I expected...it was better. Penelope doesn't write cliffhangers so you're left feeling satisfied but craving more. Kill Switch cannot come fast enough.
Penelope Douglas weaves the perfect about of romance, tension, and suspense into one hell of a book. But if you've read Corrupt, you don't need a review of Hideaway to convince you. You've already returned for another Devil's Night of debauchery.

I love the four horsemen! This book was worth the wait! Kai has all qualities one is looking for in an alpha male! Banks is the perfect woman to give him a run for his money... never knowing what she'll do next. I highly recommend you read this story... you won't be sorry!

I will start this review with 3 letters........ O - M - G !!! WOW!! When I read Corrupt, the character that really caught my attention wasn't Rika or Michael, but Kai Mori. I don't know what it was, maybe the way they explained that out of the 4 guys, he's the one that had changed the most. Maybe it was just that he's Asian and I like me some Asian men?? lol. I don't know, but when it was mentioned that Book 2 would be his book, I was BEYOND ecstatic. and let me tell you, Penelope did NOT disappoint. I'd been in a book slump and the books i'd been reading just weren't cutting it. I wanted something new, grimy, and dirty. This is what I got from Hideaway. I loved the back and forth between Kai and Banks. I enjoyed learning about the younger Kai and how he's not really that much different than the Present Kai, just older and more "experienced". There was a point where I wanted to go into the book and wrap my hand around Banks's throat due to her loyalty to........ but Penelope explained it beautifully. ...... was all she had growing up. I could not put this book down and cannot wait for Book 3 - Kill Switch.

My boys have returned!!
Kai ?, Michael, Will, and .... Damon. Oh yes. I even included Damon because dare I say this book made me care? for him. Good grief I never thought I'd say that.
Kai and Banks. The two of them together just make you want to grin uncontrollably. And from page one I couldn't stop the anticipation from what I knew was coming. Something wonderful. Devil's Night.
We meet new characters. We find out more about old ones. We get tempted and teased and can't help but fall more in love with their personalities. We see their weaknesses.
Hideaway surpassed whatever I thought I was going to read. That steam room scene in Corrupt? hahaha Oh please, you'll read better in this. Holy hotness.
Though this book is a standalone, you really need to read Corrupt before reading it or you won't truly enjoy it. You follow along with ALL the characters not just Kai and Banks.
I feel as if I've come home again. I need a reread already. ;)

Penelope Douglas has done it again. Her ability to weave together such complex characters and exciting storylines has intrigued me since the beginning, and Hideaway is no exception. I was, and still am, completely addicted. Kai and Banks are incredible together. This book had my heart pumping from start to finish.

Every time! You blow me away with the strength in your female characters. First Tate and the rest of the Fall Away ladies, then Rika and now Banks. You have given me a new appreciation for all of the strength inside myself. And a bunch of really awesome playlists. Thank you, Pen. Ill be forever grateful to the friend who recommended Bully to me.

Love, love, love P. Douglas BUT this book felt rushed with some grammatical mistakes. Couldn’t connect with Banks, she grated on my nerves. Unfortunately no where near as good her others or as good as Corrupt. Interested in seeing what happens with Damon in next book.

I had really high expectations. After all, Corrupt is my all time favorite book. I’m all about romance in a story when its done well. It could be a psych thriller, paranormal, etc.. as long as there’s a good love story in there. I really liked the continuation of events from the last book in the series but the romance part of it left me wanting. Banks had an unhealthy obsession with Kai’s enemy and repeatedly chose him over Kai therefore always left him in the dirt and yet he was so blinded in love with her even though he only met her one time for a couple of stolen moments. It just wasn’t very realistic for a love story. He deserved better in life and she wasn’t it.

I really respect this author and her writing style. I’ve loved her books. But this I just couldn’t get behind. The female lead was just too butch for me. From her name to wearing men’s clothes to the way she talked- I just needed her to be more feminine. I understood why she was like that but I still didn’t enjoy it. Sorry.

Devil's Night is BACKKKKK!!!
I have been waiting for Kai's book since the moment I turned the last page of Corrupt. He completely stole a piece of my heart in Corrupt and counting down the days to this release has been such a fun experience. Sitting at the edge of my seat waiting for my most anticipated book of the year. I could not wait to find out what secrets Kai was keeping and who was the mystery girl that would turn his world upside down.
You absolutely need to read Corrupt before Hideaway. This is a series that you want to read from the very beginning to understand the dark and twisted world of the four horsemen. If you have not started this series yet, you are seriously missing out! Penelope Douglas created a world that I want to visit over and over again. Her characters are captivating and the events that happen on Devil's Night are pretty intense! There is so much I would like to say about Hideaway. This story gave me all the feels!!! Penelope Douglas exceeded all of my expectations! Hideaway was my most anticipated book of 2017 and she delivered a story that will keep me prisoner of her words for a very long time. Corrupt left me with a book hangover that lasted well over a month. Hideaway will be exactly the same.
I don’t want to say too much about what happens in the book because every fan of this series should experience the same kind of feels that I did. Going into the book with little info about where the author’s words are about to transport us. Be prepared to be shocked by the secrets that will be revealed in this story. I was left speechless a few times and still go back to read some scenes because I was like Whoooaaaa?!?!?! What I will tell you is that Banks and Kai have completely stolen my heart! Their chemistry was undeniable and their love story was perfectly imperfect. Michael, Kai, Damon and Will all have a special place in my heart, but Kai really stole the top spot with his book. The chase between him and Banks was deliciously addictive and unforgettable. Banks is the kind of heroine I love to cheer for. She’s strong and confident. She takes her place in the story and Kai had no idea what was heading his way.
Hideaway is filled with old characters who you will continue to cheer for, new characters you will want to learn more about and a story that will linger with you for many days after you have turned the last page. This romantic suspense kept me on the edge of my seat until the end! The little teaser at the end of Hideaway for Kill Switch, which will be the third book in the Devil’s Night Series, was a jaw-dropping little piece of bookworm heaven. I can’t even deal!!! I’m so excited to read it! 2018 can’t come soon enough!
I give, Hideaway, by Penelope Douglas, 5 wild, chill inducing, sensational, all-consuming stars!

My Thoughts:
Penelope Douglas is such an amazing writer. I always anticipate her stories with so much excitement and yearning to get my hands on them. Hideaway has been a book that I have very impatiently been waiting for. When it landed on my Kindle, I was ecstatic!!!
Corrupt is my favorite dark romance. I loved becoming completely immersed and obsessed with Michael and Rika's story. Kai was my favorite secondary character in Corrupt, and I was longing for his viewpoint. I wanted to get into his head, and see him fall as hard as Michael had for Rika. I wanted to see the broken pieces of Kai's soul put back together...
Hideaway is the sequel to Corrupt, and must be read in sequential order. We met the four horsemen in book one, Michael, Kai, Damon, and Will. These four grew up together as best friends, and were inseparable. They came from wealthy, privileged, broken families; and each had their own secrets, and deep layers of darkness. Every year on Devil's Night, the night before Halloween, they liked to stir up mischief and mayhem. This was the night every year, where they let their darkness and deepest desires take over.
In Hideaway, we got Kai and Banks' story. Kai, Michael, and Will are all looking for Damon. They know that he is twisted and wants revenge on them. Michael wants to protect Rika, and Kai must protect a secret that only Damon knows. Banks is also looking for Damon, but for very different reasons. She wants to make sure that he is safe and protected. Her love and loyalty towards him is unconditional and unshakeable.
Kai and Banks have shared unforgettable and life changing moments with one another in the past, but their paths were not destined to intersect; until now. Pitted against one another, what will these two do when the longing and desire for one another continues to grow beyond their control? What will happen when the four horseman, Rika, and Banks, are reunited?
Hideaway was a little slow moving at the beginning, and took me more time to get into than Corrupt; but it was still an excellent read! Banks was a strong female lead, with guts, sass, and an adventurous soul. She was intelligent, loyal, street smart, and had suffered greatly in her young life. She was rough around the edges, but very vulnerable and warm-hearted once you pierced through her tough exterior. Kai was a strong male lead as well. While he had a dark side, he ultimately had a strong moral code for defending and protecting others. He was loyal, and wanted to please and honor his family. He especially wanted to be as great of a man as his father was, and make him proud. Kai and Banks were both characters that I loved and rooted for. The passion and chemistry between these two was intense, and the sexual tension and build-up with every interaction had me wanting for more and anticipating how it would all end.
Hideaway was full of suspense, mystery, darkness, revenge, betrayal, passion, secrets, loyalty, friendship, and love. I don't know how she does it, but Ms. Douglas is able to make her characters well-rounded and so very real. They come to life right off of the page. We are able to see all of their darkness and unlikeable qualities, but still love them for all the good they possess as well. The next book in the story will be, Kill Switch, which will be Damon's story. I can't wait for the plot to thicken. Especially, since we have been given insight in to why he is the most twisted and dark character of them all. This segment has shown us some of his redeeming qualities, and I have hope that he will be able to heal and become a better person.
My Rating:
I give, Hideaway, by Penelope Douglas, 4.5 Sensual, Passionate, Intense, Surprising, Redemption Filled Stars!

Hideaway just may have been one of my most anticipated releases EVER. I adore all things Penelope Douglas and haven't read a book of hers I didn't love. After the high octane and spine tingling ride that was Corrupt, I couldn't wait to get my hands on Kai's book.
Sadly, I think my expectations got the best of me with this one. I wanted to love it, but I ultimately struggled to stay engaged. Don't get me wrong, I didn't dislike it, but it just didn't blow me away like the first book did.
"You’re a lot of trouble.”
“So, stop taking an interest.”
Banks and Kai have a six year history. Having met her before he even met Rika, Banks never left his thoughts. Since the moment he first saw her, unassuming, in boy clothes, and totally cloaking her sexuality, there was something that drew him to her. Even when she disappeared from his life, he never stopped thinking about her. Now, years later, it doesn't matter the obstacles that lay between them, he'll have her no matter what.
Banks was a firecracker. This chick is hard as nails but with a hidden layer of softness that she hides behind the tough girl exterior. She has to, living in a den of wolves and hiding who she really is. Kai threatens everything that she holds dear in this world, but their connection is undeniable, even if it's just as dangerous.
I struggled a lot to get into the story at first. It took me almost half the book to really feel connected to the story or Kai and Banks. While the second half was certainly quicker paced, the romance never managed to hook me. Kai felt very two dimensional and I really struggled to connect to the romance between him and Banks. So much so, that I was never really sold on it. Hideaway felt more like a setup for another character that I'm absolutely salivating for. It felt like a prequel to him book and it was what kept me turning the pages ultimately, hungry for more details. Sadly, it just never grabbed me or gave me that goosebumps feeling that Corrupt did. There's a lot of puzzle pieces that click into place here and if you're a Damon fan like I am, you're definitely not going to want to miss it. The romance may not have been the thing that hooked me here, but I did eagerly keep turning the pages for another morsel of detail on Damon and let me tell you, It. Was. DELICIOUS.
Hideaway may not have been my favorite by this incredible author, but it was still a highly entertaining read. If the intent was to leave me nearly delirious with need for Damon's story, then mission most definitely accomplished.

A long-awaited second installment in a series that started with such an amazingly dark and tantalizing story, Hideaway continues in the tradition of the one before it. Told in both the past and present with viewpoints from both of our two main characters, we travel back six years ago, before the story of Corrupt ever happened, to when Banks and Kai first met and their twisted story that carries to the present.
With a contentious relationship at best, Banks and Kai have circled one another, constantly pulling the other in while taking steps back, for years. Banks is an enigma to him, a woman so unlike others, but he’s inextricably drawn to her–her strength, her brash attitude, her loyalty. There’s more than an attraction between them as it’s muddled by the hatred of Damon, someone she’s impossibly tied to, so their love-hate is all too real, all too twisted around immovable barriers. And yet, in spite of that, something special grows between the cracks and blossoms into a beautiful and strong love. A love that suffers many setbacks that created delicious emotion and physical tension.
Having adored and been consumed by every prior Penelope Douglas book, I have to admit that I was surprised this book didn’t affect me in the same manner. I couldn’t get myself into the story, constantly placing it down when it wasn’t holding my attention, and I was beyond frustrated because this is Penelope Douglas and I LOVED Corrupt. I knew these characters and had a connection with them from back when, and I just couldn’t immerse myself. I enjoyed the story, don’t get me wrong, but the plot was too long-winded. Too much filler left a loose story that felt like it never got anywhere until suddenly it did to then fall off again. This is the sole reason why it wasn’t a 5-star. I loved the characters, I felt the attraction and the rising tension, it just took way too long to get anywhere with it, and I think the romance suffered a bit with it.
Hideaway was another thrilling installment in a dark storyline that will continue on to the next book (and I assume, the one after that). It was truly a pleasure to see the gang again, to fall back into their strife with Damon and everything that surrounded it, and to fall in love with Kai and Banks. But I think we’re all itching to see what Douglas does with Damon in his story next and how she can possibly redeem the irredeemable (…and we’re not worried because we know she can).

My highly anticipated book is here! I have been so anxious for this book to release. I love a good dark romance and this series is some serious book crack for me.
Kai and Banks have a different sort of relationship. It's one I wasn't really expecting, both good and bad, and yet this seemed to fit them very well. It did take me a bit to get invested in the story but once it hit I was hooked. This is defiantly not Corrupt 2.0 and I am very grateful for that. I don't really care for it when the next book is almost a carbon copy of the first one. I love that this one surprised me so much and was more than I expected.
There is so much going on and I think so much being set up for the next book. This felt like a book and a half almost. Sometimes that is both good and bad. Good because it's like a bonus but yet it's bad because it feels like that stuff over shadowed the current main person's book. I'm still a bit on the fence to how I feel about it. I do love who it's for but then again I love Kai too.
Over all I loved this book so hard and it was exceptional and worth the wait. I am dying for the next release and I hope it's the brutal torture and angst I'm expecting it to be! I love these characters so much.

This series is absolutely amazing. Penelope Douglas knows how to write dark and manage to wrap romance inside the dark very nicely. That sounds strange right? Lol! Fans of this series will know what I mean.
Kai was PERFECTION! And holy smokes.....BANKS BLEW ME AWAY!! I loved how she stood up for herself and yet was still vulnerable.
Damon is a force to be reckoned with. I didn’t know where his story was going to go, I knew it would be bad...but I had no idea how bad. No wonder the boy is messed up. The end of Hideaway there is a sneak peak of the next book. Well, I couldn’t make myself read it. Lol! I want to wait and go in blind!
The readers who read Corrupt know very well about a threesome scene that was beyond HOT. Well there might be a little something, something in Hideaway too. This series won’t be for everyone but they sure work for me!!! I NEED MORE!!!!

Buddy-Read with the lovely Hanne!
I loved this book and it was fun that I could talk to Hanne about it all and to see her point of everything. I don't know if I did everything right in this buddy-read but I loved it! Hanne I want to do it again!
So we read a lot of mixed reviews and I was a bit scared to start it alone so I'm thankful that we both read it! So we could share our thoughts.
I loved this one! But I love Pen her books so it's easy to love! I'm still not sure if I will ever like Damon it's gonna be a hard and long journey to like him (for me!) I understood Banks her loyalty to Damon, but at other times I was like Damn again? It's clear that Kai has a lot of patience, because I wouldn't have it. That wasn't really a mystery for me because I took the little hints and suddenly a light bulb went of in my head and I just knew! I was right, that was a surprise..
Damon's mom and dad are real pieces of work.. Those are people you just want to take of the street and put in a trashcan..
Even though this is a darker read it had lot's of fun and funny moments so I had a lot of fun! Also a lot of WHAT?? moments but I could handle it.
I'm curious for Damons story because I can tell the lady is going to be special, but If I will like it will be a very different story.. Because I don't like Damon.. I don't know why other people like him so much!
I know I'm probably forgetting a lot to mention but my mind is still spinning..

RATING: 4.5 Horsemen Hearts! <3
Hideaway is a riveting addition to the Devil’s Night series, one that creates a deliciously dark ambiance as mystery seamlessly weaves with romance and fears merge with poignant desires, leaving us breathless, on edge and craving for more.
“There’s something about you, kid,” he said.
“Around you, I get hungry. Like I’m starving.”
While the suspense and revenge plot offer one captivating ride, what makes this story intriguing is the mysteriousness surrounding the characters as it does the prose. Kai has our curiosity piqued ever since a certain steam room scene in Corrupt, and where before he was obscured in shadowy corners of his own making, in this we get a front row seat as light is shed on the exquisite intricacies of his quiet and reserved, yet confident and definite personality. Banks is a true match to Kai in every way, meeting his strength and vigor with equal intensity, yet with an underlying stark vulnerability making her a pleasure to read about. She is strong and loyal to a fault, and though she desires Kai, she firmly stands her ground in keeping her connection to Damon a secret and protecting him right to the end from Kai’s planned vengeance.
I gave him a small smile. “Sometimes when everything and everyone around me is hard to face, I look up.”
The romance between the two of them is gloriously tense and deliciously combustible, the passion continually igniting and then being sniffed out when they find themselves standing at opposite corners with Damon in the middle, until finally their desires burn too bright and lead the way to a stunning love. The snippets we get of Damon’s story rounds out this exhilarating read, leaving us with bated breath to see what Ms. Douglas has in store for our irredeemable bad boy.
The wait in between instalments in this series is almost painfully long, but we know without a doubt Ms. Douglas will never disappoint, leaving us utterly satisfied just as she has every time before. Overall, Hideaway is dark, gritty and steamy; a page turner in every sense.
