I love this book. I frequently "gift" it to people whom I adore...in all ways....

Original? Perhaps. What made a difference in my life was the focus on not letting our pain and defenses of the past cloud our present reality and future life. Staying open is very hard! I'm struggling with it yet again today and why I am again thinking of this book. Our past will shape our future if we can't relearn to live openly.

Oh how great this book is. I need to re-read it periodically to stay sane.

My highest recommendation.

And, a not to the reviewers who hated it. I picked up the Dalai Lama's book on Happiness years ago and likewise hated it. Thought what a stupid and cliche ridden book. But I kept it because I couldn't bear to throw away the book of such a respected spiritual leader. Years later I picked it up again and loved it. I wasn't ready to read the book earlier. So give this one another shot in a few years...it's so worth it.

This book has profoundly changed my life with these teachings using simple story-telling and analogies. It may at point seem a bit heady but push through it will be worth it and in my opinion the easiest read of any spiritual/mindful whatever you want to call it type of book

This book was like a psychologist providing me therapy about living a happier more fulfilling life. The untethered soul used references from the teachings of yoga and Buddhism, which are two lifestyles I try to practice. The teachings in this book is priceless. It addresses a lot of mental disorders that are considered epidemics within our society. These mental disorders are debilitating, but the author goes step by step providing clear directions on how to overcome these psychological misconceptions. The concepts within this book were new and refreshing. It was not a recycle of previous self help novels. It was a priceless, life altering read. I highly recommend this book to all my friends and family.

There is nothing particularly new or novel in The Untethered Soul, however the author has cleverly been able to convey concepts taking from various traditions in new and interesting ways.

The only downside is that it does suffer a little from the same thing that most books like this suffer from - the "easier said than done" problem. So much of this book makes perfect logical and theoretical sense, however the proper implementation of these ideas is a much longer, harder process than this book tacitly indicates. A lot of the messages could be distilled down to "Do this, do that and bada bing, bada boom, you're enlightened!" Like I said, easier said than done.

However on balance I still would recommend this book to anyone keen to look at life from a slightly different perspective.

I've read many, many spiritual books over decades and never found one more clear and easy to understand and apply. A great book for anyone to read - but especially good to share with people who aren't intellectually inclined. Not that it's overly simple, rather it makes the complex and esoteric completely understandable and clear. I'll be gifting this one for sure!!

If you allow yourself to listen and go deep inside yourself, you will realize the truth.
Very powerful message that we all already know but need to actually LIVE on a day basis.
Well written and should be taught in school and Church more often.

I wanted to love this book. While reading, I reached a point where I wanted to like this book and then I knew there was a problem. The book speaks of separating yourself from discomfort and seeing disturbing thoughts pass by (which is similar to the advice of many other books), but it doesn't ever speak of the decisions that come from seeing those disturbing thoughts or taking any action at all. I agree that stepping back and not letting petty occurrences impact you is a huge theme and seems like good advice. Yet, I don't think that we are meant to live our lives on the sidelines by travelling through whatever seems like the 'center' at the moment.

I purchased this book based on the great reviews, but my experience was that this was recycled information which lacked substance and guidance. Somehow, I keep getting the image of cotton candy whenever I think of this book.

The Untethered Soul will challenge you and help you rethink many aspects of your life. I found the latter chapters the most valuable, but you need to read the earlier chapters for them to have maximum value. I listened to this on Audible and will re listen to it again. It takes more than one listen to really absorb all that is being said.

Taoists say that when the student is ready, the teacher will come. Some will read this book when they're not yet ready for it, but maybe they'll keep it and pick it up again. I've been searching for answers my entire life, as a survivor of abuses best not rehashed here. I think I went into psychology in order to psychoanalyze myself, but the answers were always suited to someone else's dilemma, and anyway, other people's dilemmas have always seemed so simple to me. I'd think, for gosh sakes, just get over it!

Recently, I bought a magazine in Books-a-Million, a magazine that I've never bought before, and in it is an excerpt from this book. I liked how it sounded and needed to know more. Of course, the store.com is my go-to place, and I bought it on Kindle because I wanted it NOW. I haven't hurried through it, just digesting a few pages each night (It's very rich with the teachings) and "watching" how the concepts fit into my life. I'm 80% finished, and I plan to buy it in hard copy as well as audio, when the audio CD comes out. I was ready for Michael Singer to come and teach me. I'm not immediately "fixed" but finally I realize that I have the tools within me for bliss......and that's saying a lot for someone who has made a lifetime quest of reading every self-help and spiritual book that comes down the pike. I have a good life, married to my Prince Charming, I write, paint, and I've accomplished a few things, but I intend to make the coming years far better, without the stress that has frozen me with fear, suspicions, and regrets for five decades.

I would say, if you read the reviews and the excerpt and think you might benefit from this book, buy it. If it doesn't quite fit, put it on a shelf and save it for later. When you're ready, the teachings in it will vibrate within you and stir the hope that's been waiting there.

A truly superior book for anyone interested in improving the quality of their life, mind, personality, relationships... you name it. This book is a competent road map to achieving this. I do not, however, say this lightly. Michael Singer has somehow distilled the mechanisms of our beings into bite sized workable chunks that anyone at anytime can make improvements upon. Thank you for this fabulous work. I am looking forward to reading his newest book "The Surrender Experiment".

This is an exceptional book. It really does a great job of summarizing core concepts behind 'mindfulness', without getting to abstract or complex. Provides a nice framework for processing thoughts and emotions. Especially, pain and fear.

One of my favorite books ever. The main premise is that we aren't our emotions. We feel them, but they don't become who we are. It teaches you how to detach from your emotions, but still give some space to acknowledge them. Great book for dealing with anything life throws at you. Highly recommend.

I started reading this book at a very difficult time and it helped me get perspective on the anxiety mad depression I was dealing with. Having come through the other side of this period I want to re-read it with different eyes. But it has already helped enormously to let things go and learn to be open and stay open. A long way to got but would not be at this point without this book. The examples and analogies all the way through make it easy to understand and follow. No book has impacted me or helped like this has when it comes to personal and spiritual growth. Highly recommend it.

LOVE this book. Powerful lessons that must be practiced daily to be effective. My 8 year old Grandson was focusing on what we would do tomorrow then stopped himself and said Grandma, I need to stay in the present moment! Passing the lessons along to the next generation.

This book along with Eckhart Tolle's The New Earth are the two best books regarding mindfulness I've ever read. If more humans embraced the wisdom of using mindfulness as a path toward inner harmony, the world would be a much better place. Singer's thoughts have made a profound positive difference in my life.

The first chapter is "The Voices In Your Head" and Mr Singer had me right there. For a very long time I didn't know anyone else had these warped perspectives and here was an author clearly stating that many people do, this is why and this is how to change them.

In a simple, easily understood manner, many issues that had been limiting me were laid out. I read one chapter a day first thing in the morning and found that I would think about the chapter throughout the day. Many of them I re-read at night before bed. The suggestions are easy to practice and very freeing.

The book had and has a profound effect on me. I am happier and I have recommended it to many of my friends as a helpful tool on the road of spirituality. They are thrilled with it too.

If you have anything negative to say about this book you clearly didn't read it. The best takeaway for me:

The highest spiritual path is life itself. If you know how to live daily life, it all becomes a liberating experience. But first you have to approach life property, or it can be confusing. To begin with, you have to realize that you really only have one choice in this life, and it's not about your career, whom you want to marry, or whether you want to seek God. People tend to burden themselves with so many choices. But, in the end, you can throw it all away and just make one basic underlying decision: Do you want to be happy, or do you not want to be happy? It's really that simple. Once you make that choice, your path through life becomes totally clear. ~ The Untethered Soul

After purchasing and reading the first chapter I purchased 3 more copies as gifts.

This was definitely the start I needed to begin my spiritual growth. It is not a quick solve, you won't be a meditating guru within a month but it will startle your consciousness enough. It's simple and not too much newbies hopefully are not put off by shutting down before they give it a chance to digest. I recommend this one first then the power of now.

I absolutely love this book. I ran into a soulmate and she recommended this book to me. As I begin to read, I knew right then that I needed this information. I been seeking this information for a long period of time and I feel so thankful that I've finally received it. This book is a start of my journey and I would recommend it to anyone. Thank you!!

This book is one of the most profound, eye-opening books I've read in a long time. If you are looking for advice on how to live a conscious life that is free of emotional turmoil and drama, read this book. It is a spiritual book that is straight-forward, easy to grasp, and does not get bogged down in esoteric spiritual concepts. The book identifies most of the reasons humans suffer and offers advice on how to transcend the reoccurring issues, dramas, fears, etc. I am truly blown away by the truths that were revealed to me by reading this book, I only wish I had read it years ago!

While my husband really liked this book, me not so much. We bought this copy to replace the loner from a family member because he marked up the one we had. The one chapter on dying is very good and I agree with other parts of the book but I did not like the way he presented the information. Within one sentence he would change the subject matter 180 degrees and that seemed very confusing to me.

What a deeply profound book. It's inspirational, smart, and insightful. Page after page brings to light new ideas and an understanding of how we stand in our own way. You will want to read it over and over.

I cannot say enough about Michael Singer's gem of a treatise, The Untethered Soul, an instruction manual, if you will, on how to attain inner peace in the face of the uncertainties of this mortal life. Not only did I find Singer's teachings as set forth here to be comforting and an antidote to anxiety, but they illuminated a new path forward; specifically, how to free oneself from the limits of one's comfort zone.

I am thrilled to have discovered this How-to handbook for "stepping outside your house of thoughts into the unlimited," which I anticipate re-reading and consulting on a regular basis.

This book says everything I have ever learned about how to be happy and healthy, and yet manage to forget each day. It says these things in the simplest possible way, making them easy to remember. I even took the best of the quotes, and put them in my phone to remind me of things I forget. One of the quotes is :"By watching your mind, you will notice that it is engaged in the process of trying to make everything ok. The truth is, everything will be okay as soon as you are okay with everything. And that's the only time everything will be okay." I need to relearn that every time I think arguing with reality is a good use of my time.

One of the best books of all time. Seriously, this will change your life if you read every word like its your last. It touches on spirituality and how to cope with your inner dialogue, effort, times of peril and enjoying the present moment. SERIOUSLY, THIS BOOK SHOULD BE READ TO STUDENTS!

It seems that my journey reading this book is two-fold. Initially, I did NOT like it! I felt it was too simplistic, that it lacked language sophistication and elegant prose, and that it did not add anything to my knowing. Still, I kept reading. I am one of those who keeps on reading even if I'm not thrilled about a book. I mean, it would have to be awful for me to just put it down. I tend to hold out for hope...hoping it improves, and that is exactly what happened with Untethered Soul. The first 14 chapters were hard for me (for the above reasons), but then something kicked in around chapter 15, and that 'something' stayed until the end. I suppose one could just skip all the way to the chapter on unconditional happiness and go from there.

I think it's fair to say that perhaps my feelings for this book is due to the fact that I'm not new to the subject of consciousness, energy-vibration, being the 'witness' or the 'watcher' of self, etc. I've been reading Eastern thought, Ernest Holmes, Osho, and the like for more years than I know. I'm sure this has impacted my overall view of Untethered Soul. If you're a beginner, go for it! Perhaps you'll find the book to be wonderful. If you're not a beginner, I say, grab a Krishnamurti read and press on.

Congrats to the author for his journey to this knowing, and for his success!

Marc Singer's work is a calm and thoughtful approach to developing our ability to self-reflect: to grow beyond the confines of emotion and illusion to a true understanding of who we are really are. I appreciate the author's rejecting easy answers, yet his guiding readers in each page to take one step at a time toward personal growth.

This book is worth a million dollars a word. Easy to read, dynamite information, light-hearted, even logical. Uses easy to understand examples of what he is writing about. I read it on recommendation and then we reads it in our book group. I plan on rereading it often. And using as a "reference" guide as to how to handle life, myself, and other things. Not preachy or religious or too scientific. Just good. Good writer. Looking forward to his next book.

I found this book to be an exceptionally well written journey into our world. It gave me the tools to navigate the outside world with an interior compass. I was going through a major challenge to my concept of faith
and service. Singer, who had gone through a huge struggle of his own when he wrote the book, really gave me tools that showed me both a sober, and of hopeful path to take in my life, We all want happiness now. We want our desert before dinner. He delivers a feast that calls for work, detachment, and
ultimately enlightenment. You can't get there with out being willing to see who you made yourself to be and who you really are. I am grateful a friend directed me to this book. The vision of the inner self is beautiful. The journey to yourself is hard. The long term effect are eternal.

I bought the book...then bought the audio. I need to read it and hear it a couple of times before it sinks in. It is BLOWING my mind! Or maybe my inner voice is telling me that? I think this is going to be the first time I've had a major life event (reading this book) that will be a game changer. Excited to keep reading and hearing. The Audio is EXCELLENT!

Books about spirituality are really a matter of personal reaction...if you "get" the message, you love the book and it helps you grow. If you're not so in tune with what the author is saying, you probably won't like it and it won't benefit you. So I simply have to say that for me Michael Singer had a lot to say, and I've been able to incorporate some of it into my own life experience. It's helped me grow. I found it easy to read, even funny and entertaining at times, but one of the most to the point and challenging books I've read as well. I've read it cover to cover twice, as well as revisiting pertinent chapters many times over. This is truly "self-help" at it's best. Thank you, Mr. Singer!

Love this book and consider it a lifetime find! I repeatedly read it in parts or even its entirety. Two basic things he does superbly in this -

1) He delivers the clearest and most straight-forward explanation for understanding oneself as separate from one's mind/experiences that I've ever come across. Everywhere else it's presented as a matter to take on faith, but he does it through a logical exercise that should work for any entry-level examiner.

2) His simple model for how we collect 'baggage' in our psyche (the Buddhist 'sankhara' or Hindu 'samsara') is cogent and compatible with science. It helps me tremendously to accept my inner workings as a logical system and to 'let go' of things as more than a cognitive exercise.

I have struggled all my life with battling an eating disorder and poor self image . This book has helped me find my center and be ok with not being ok. I found myself literally almost in tears as I read each chapter. It taught me that life is a journey and to enjoy the destination . It also taught me to ignore that negative voice in my head . It's an interesting theory when you take your "self" out of your self , and how beautiful life becomes . I recommend this book to everyone and anyone no matter what path you are in life, there is a seriously lesson to be learned when you can look inside yourself and explore your greatest potential.

An intriguing read; a bit wordy and repetitious at times, but great insights. Reading this book can be life changing! Great concepts such as: We often limit our own lives; the universe has no boundaries, so why should we? We can spend enormous amounts of energy swinging from one extreme to the other, it can be much more peaceful to just "be" and to let life flow, without overreacting, judging, and/or taking events personally.

I absolutely loved this book. It has helped me put everything into perspective and have a new outlook on life and how we interact with others. From the beginning I could hardly put it down. The way it captivated me and my attention, I was able to finish it in a few hours. I wish I had known about it sooner but glad my yoga instructor recommended it.

A very nice description of an approach most people think of as "spiritual enlightenment" but as an uber-rationalist I tend to think of as "reality is what you make it". Connected to traditions of yoga and buddhism, but not explicitly setting out those teachings. An agnostic's roadmap to enlightenment, if you will. Lots of points are repeated throughout the book, which may be overly redundant for some, but I found it helpful; the principles are so simple, and repetition helps reinforce the simplicity. The last chapter was a little too centered for my taste around how enlightenment is manifested in more traditional christian frameworks, but it's a small blemish in an otherwise outstanding treatise.

Singer gives practical, easy to understand information and action steps on how to become aware of the voice in your head and then how to let it go aka tame the beast. I've read many books on meditation, consciousness and watched many videos and this is the best book of its kind I have ever read. if you want freedom from all the lies and distractions that voice in your head is constantly giving you, read this book and put the advice to work for you. and send Singer a personal thank you note. I did.

I've become quite a passionate reader for the past 2 years, since I discovered Kindle and how much cheaper e-books are compared to printed ones. I have read amazing life changing books like "The Slight Edge", "Think and Grow Rich", "How to Win Friends and Influence People", "Rich Dad Poor Dad", "Way of the Peaceful Warrior", "You Can Heal your Life", "The Motivation Manifesto", "Managing Oneself", "The Alchemist", "The One Thing", "You Are a Badass" and more. But this one, "The Untethered Soul" is the one I recommend as #1 now. It makes it so clear and simple how we can live a joyful, complete and stress free life with very little effort. Really. Absolutely amazing and liberating. A must for anyone. I also love that there is narration available and I can listen to it while I walk, drive or workout.
