I have been reading this book to my daughter since she was an infant. She is now 4 years old. I still get tears when I read it. I never thought I was very emotional and was so shocked the first time I read it and cried. I didn't just cry at the end, I cried when I saw the son growing up. It made me realize my baby would grow so soon hehe. It is also her favorite book. My husband also purchased one for his mother and put my daughter's hand prints on the last page. She also cried as she read it because the boy reminded her of my husband. It's a very lovely and touching book, but be prepared to cry if you are a mother.

This was my daughter's favorite book as a toddler. She's now in college studying languages and I bought this as a Christmas present and she was thrilled. She said they changed some of the words to keep the rhyme.

this review is about the english version, though relevant to the spanish as well. we finally remembered to donate it to the salvation army so we would no longer have to read it to our child. pure sap. c'mon, the elderly mother drives to her grown son's house, scales a ladder to his room and rocks him back and forth, back and forth...touching? creepy! read it at the library before spending the cash!
