"The Reptile Room" is my favorite book in the Series of Unfourtunate Events. If you liked the first book can be almost sure you are going to like this one.
The Baudelaire's troubles continue they go to live with another relative, Dr. Montgomery Montgomery (Uncle Monty, for short). He is a scientist who studies snakes. Not that Uncle Monty is the problem. No, the Baudelaire's are just about as happy here as they were with their parents. The trouble starts when Count Olaf shows up again, this time posing as Uncle Monty's assistant, Stephano.
Things plunge from wonderful to horrible when Count Olaf shows up, but, as in the first book (and I've read the other books in the series so far, and this goes for them too), Lemony Snicket mixes in plenty of dry humor with the unfourtunate to make this book great. This is the book that made me want to read the rest of the series (something that's highly reccommended)!

Violet, Klaus, and Sunny have just experienced a narrow escape with their dasterdly, witty, greedy uncle, Count Olaf. They are then sent to live with their Uncle Monty, a reptile scientist. Things seem to be looking up for the orphans, they have their own rooms, they get to help out in the reptile room with the Incredibly Deadly Viper, and they are going to Peru! But then Monty's new assistant Stephano comes along and even though he's in disguise, his shiny eyes give him away. Complete with a murder, venom, car crash, and an arguement over seating arrangments, this one is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. LOVE IT!!!

This book is great. Sunny, Klaus and Violet, after escaping Count Olaf, are sent to live with their uncle, Dr. Montgomery Montgomery, or Uncle Monty. He loves and collects snakes. While at his house, The Baudlaires get to do all their favorite things to prepare for their trip to Preu wiht uncle monty. Violet gets to build snake traps, Klaus read about Peru, and Sunny bite rope. What seems like the perfect life doesn't continue when Count olaf, under a different name comes into the picture. Then something happens that changes everything. To find out what happens, get this book. But don't read this book at night.

" `I am so tired,' Stephano snarled `of having to explain everything to you. You're smart and yet you always seem to forget about this! ` He reached into his pocket and pulled out the jagged knife."
14 year old Violet is the oldest of the Baudelair Orphans. Klause, her 11 year old brother, loves books. They have a baby sister named Sunny. Violet,Klause and Sunny move into the home of Uncle Monty, a herpetologist. Uncle Monty hires Stephano as an assistant, to go to Peru with him and the children. When Stephano arrives, the children see a tattoo of an eye on his left ankle. Now they suspect he might be Count Olaf, their old evil guardian. When the Baudelair children try to explain their fears to Uncle Monty, he refuses to listen. Now the Baudelair Orphans must do everything possible to stop Count Olaf from stealing their fortune. How will the Baudelair Orphans convince Mr.Poe the man incharge of overseeing the orphans' affairs, Stephano is Count Olaf?
Lemony Snicket is an author of great talent. He ends every chapter with a cliff hanger leaving you in suspense. As I was reading this enchanted mystery I could not put the book down. Lemony Snicket's works are like movies, while reading I feel like I am one of the characters. If you are tired of happily ever after endings you will appreciate this book.

I am a fifth grade student at Waldron Mercy Academy(SCD).
I would give this book five stars. It is one of the greatest series I have ever read. This is book the second in the series. It is a little sad but I like it anyway. I read it in two days. This is how the story goes: Count Olaf is after these poor orphans fortune. Count Olaf is a very mean person who has treated them very meanily in the earlier books. They will be able to take their fortune when they are old enough. They have moved in with their Uncle Monty. He has a reptile room which he works in every day with the orphans. One time this huge snake was wraping around the baby orphan and they where so scared. The snake was a very friendly snake so they were not scared. He had almost every kind of reptile in the world. One day Count Olaf was discased as somone else and was suppose to watch the house while Uncle Monty went on a trip with the orphans. The orphans knew it was him but no one belived them. He would always threaten them with knives. It must have been horrible. Then Count Olaf poisined Uncle Monty with snake poison. Uncle Monty soon dies. Now the orphans have to go on a trip with Count Olaf. Will he take them away again and make them work for him. What will happen to the orphans?

The Reptile Room
The Reptile Room, the second in a wonderful book series by Lemony Snicket, is about how good things can come out of bad things through the misfortunes of three children: Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire. A terrible fire that also burned everything in the house suddenly orphaned them. In the first book, an evil madman who tries to steal their inheritance supervises the children. In this book the man comes back and tries again to steal the Baudelaire fortune while the children live with a nice relative named Montgomery Montgomery.
Sunny was a likeable character because she always said something funny and loves to bite things. Violet was a likeable character because she loves to invent things and isn't predictable. Dr. Montgomery was also a likeable character because he gives the kids a break after the events of the first book. I did not like Klaus because he was so boring. Count Olaf was a likeable character because he is always so mysterious. The theme is probably "good things come out of bad things." The fact that Count Olaf comes back and does bad things instead of good things is what I liked best. I least liked Mr. Poe coming back because of his boringness. I liked the end because it didn't have that happily ever after ending.
The author gives plenty of details and most of the time, keeps the reader interested. The vocabulary is pretty moderate because the author explains what some of words mean. I am not very satisfied with the way the way the book is written because he put irrelevant things in the book. The book would probably appeal to children ages 8 and up based on the fact that the vocabulary is not very hard, and the book is relatively short. I recommend The Reptile Room because it keeps the reader interested.

Series of Unfortunate Events Book #2 the Reptile Room
By: Lemony Snicket
The Book Series of Unfortunate Events Book 2 the Reptile Room By: Lemony Snicket, was about 3 orphans called the Baudelaire's. The oldest is called Violet she loves to invent things. The middle child was Klaus, he loved to read books, and Sunny was the youngest she was teething so biting was her favorite thing to do. Their parents had died in a terrible fire and they had gone to live with count Olaf who was after their enormous fortune. They realized he was evil. So they went to live with there uncle, his name was Montgomery Montgomery yes his first name was the same as his last. The person who was managing them and their money was Mr. Poe. He dropped them off and said he'd be back with the bags in a few days. Uncle Monty had a love for snakes, he wanted to take the Baudelaire's to Peru, so he hired an assistant named Stephano, He looked a lot like Count Olaf. After a week or so there they realized they did not totally like Stephano so the ripped up his ticket. A few days later they found uncle Monty dead, Stephano aka. Count Olaf grabbed the kids and were on there way to Peru when they bumped into Mr. Poe, and realized Stephano was count Olaf, and were taken away by Mr. Poe.
This book was very exiting to read there was always something going on, right as you thought it was going to be boring it got interesting. Around the middle of the book I felt like I was actually in the book because there was so much interesting things I got very attached. The conflict in this book was different than most other books, It was stephano and the orphans both hated eachother, so there was always tons of action going on and I liked it. Lemony snicket was very descriptive about his charcters it is very easy to picture them in your head and they seemed very realistic because they had traits just like a regular person. The books ending was alittle satisfying and unsatifying because the ending was the same as all the other books Ive read in this series but it was satisfying because the orphans got away safely.
The authors voice is very good he describes things very clearly and very well, they are also very easy to understand. The author uses vocabulary in an interesting way because, he will pause the story for a second and define the word, that makes the words easy to understand and easier to follow. Some characteristics about the author arehow he defines words like I said already, and something bad always happens that you can never figure out. The author always uses dialogue, description and tone on almost every page. Overall he writes very different than all other authors.
I would rate this on a scale of 10, a 7. Because even though it was very good I thought this one was a little more boring than than others in the series because I am not a huge reptile fan. If you like reptiles this is your book. I would definitely recommend this book to reptile lovers and anyone that just wants a good mystery.
This book can be very interesting or it may not. Even though I'm not a huge reptile fan I still thought it was pretty good and anyone would probably like it. This book is worth it.

This is the second of the thirteen Lemony Snicket books. I am sorry to say that out of the ten books that I have read is not the most delightful. In this book the Baudelaire orphans are placed in their second home with Uncle Monty. They were afraid that the new foster parent was going to be just like Count Olaf or maybe even worse. As it turns out Uncle Monty was very kind. They got to choose their own room unlike before when they lived with Count Olaf they all had to share a room with only one bed. They were also able to use their Uncle's huge library, and go into Uncle Monty's reptile room as many times in a day as they wished. Uncle Monty's reptile room consisted of many different reptile species from all over the world. He had even discovered a new snake that he named The Incredibly Deadly Viper. I know you are all thinking with that name it has to be very dangerous so why would the children be able to come in when ever they liked. Well to tell you the truth that snake couldn't hurt a fly and sunny the youngest became very good friends with it. Uncle Monty was going to let the children come on an expedition to Peru along with his new assistant Stephano. Monty had a new assistant because, Gustav, his old assistant had quit. Everything is going too smoothly as you would know if you read any of the books. So something has to go wrong you are thinking. When Stephano arrives things start to seem a little weird to the children. Still everything is going good for Uncle Monty. Bad things start to happen. Things start going wrong. Something happens and next thing you know the children are now the Baudelaire orphans once again. On their way to find another home to live at again!

I greatly recommend this series to someone who likes mysteries and realistic fiction. I was a great book even though in every book at least one person is murdered. Shouldn't be read by someone who hates hearing about deaths.

This book s very conventional for a series of unfortunate events. The only shock I experienced was when I found out Stephano was Count Olaf. Everything else was just like the bad beginning -Julia age 9

I ordered this for my 12-year-old granddaughter, who has read all the Lemony Snicket books, but also likes to listen to books as she cleans her room, draws, etc. Her opinion, which I share, is that Tim Curry is the perfect reader for this series. The books are a bit unusual for children's literature--somewhat warped and darkly humorous, and Curry catches that tone as no one else could.
Please RateMurder! (A Series of Unfortunate Events - Book 2)
After nearly escaping the clutches of Count Olaf from book one THE BAD BEGINING, these clever youngsters are taken to their Uncle Monty, a collector of rare snakes. In fact, he is a well known herpatologist. That's "snake egg-head" to you! At first Uncle Monty seems paternal and caring and fun. He enlists the talents of the children: Violet, Klaus and Sunny to help prepare for a journey to South America to study snakes. Yes our Monty is a real gentle guardian who has the children's interests at heart. While he is alive anyway....
If you are reading this review keep repating to yourself it's only a review....it's only a review.... a review of the case history of the Baudelaires accounted by the runaway author Lemony Snicket. Mr. Snicket has vowed to uncover the truth of what happened to these kids during their stay with Dr. Monty.
I must warn you. This book contains a town with a funny odor, a giant cuddly viper, a terrible disguise, dim-witted adults, the country of Peru, sweet desert, and musings over a woman who is long since perished named Beatrice...
I recommend you do NOT read this tomb,...uh.. no I meant tome. You would be better off reading about another orphan who is blessed with magical powers but who faces extreme danger..well if you insist.... then the Reptile Room is a book of surprises and mystery that even an adult will find horrifyingly funny.
However.....
After reading this, if you find yourself in a nightmare where you are in the coils of a giant viper whilst a disguised arsonist is coming at you with a length of rope.....when you wake up sweating just keep screaming to yourself 'it's only a book......it's only a book!"
