If there was ever any doubt that Stephen King can write more than horror novels, this book sets the record straight - these are four excellent dramatic pieces, three of which have been adapted for film - most notably The Shawshank Redemption. The story is a great read for fans of the movie, deeper and darker than the film adaptation. Both the story and the movie can stand on their own, and it's very interesting to be able to track the decisions made when adapting the story.

As King mentions at the end, these were four stories written at separate times in his writing career, and certainly are different than the horror typecasting that he had become known for. Each certainly was good, with Shawshank being the best overall, and Apt being unusually interesting (most of the story, as I felt it went on too long and lacked a satisfying ending). Having seen the movie adaptations of the first three, I can also say the Body and Shawshank were very similar, while Apt (for the most part) was much better in its original written form within the confines of this collection. Overall I still favor King 's horror stories much more than any of these, but like 11/22/63 which I have recently finished as well, sometimes it's good to take part in something that is not the norm, something that is different...

Different Seasons by Stephen King is one of my favorite collections of Short stories. The short stories include Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, which was the basis for the movie Shawshank Redemption, as well as the short story that the movie Stand By ME was based on. The other two short stories were less captivating, but it is definitely worth it for the two above mentioned stories.

This is quite frankly one of Stephen Kings best books. It showcases both general fiction and more genre oriented horror stories. At least two of these stories, The Body, and Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption have been made into feature films. King wields the English language skillfully and makes it seem that the reader is in the scenes with the characters. Recommended for any fan of Stephen King or modern American literature.

Best book of novellas ever written by Stephen King. Actually, it's the best book of novellas ever written by anyone. I've read all of King's publications and when I saw this available on Kindle I had to have it. This is Stephen King back in the early 1980's, before he started cranking out crap novels every six months. Three of these novellas were made into feature films - need I say more.

Bought for The Shawshank Redemption. Amazing how they could squeeze such a good movie out of such a short story. This is probably the only time when I thought that a Stephen King story was better in the movie. I also read Apt Pupil. Not so good. Haven't read the rest of the book yet. Apt Pupil was too long and uneventful to bother with the rest of the book.

This book came in handy for a presentation on early trauma and Stephen King. I'm not a fan but these stories are representative of the man and his work which is very autobiographical.
It also arrived in time for my needs.

Although an older tome of Stephen Kings works, I purchased it to read the piece "the body" on which "Stand By Me" was based.
Book as advertised, good condition. . Shipped by book rate. .. which for a used book is tolerable

Stephen King is a master with words. He draws images and scenarios that become alive in imagination. In these novella/short story pieces, he present several different "King faces" but all are fascinating and all ask the reader to imagine: What if ? As always, short or long, King is worth the read.

All are good stories and good movies. They are short, less than 200 pages each, but Stephen King is excellent at developing characters and making us care about them and giving us plenty to be interested in after he's gotten us hooked.
