Overall I have loved all things New Canon that Disney has done with the Star Wars universe, but this series is just bad. I love Darth Maul, he is one of the best parts of the prequel trilogy but in my opinion he should have stayed dead. One of the problems that I had with the old Canon was how characters, like the Emperor got brought back to life via cloning or another method. This to me cheapens the world that has been created, it lessens the stakes. That is one reason people love Game of Thrones because George R.R. Martin isn't afraid to kill off a character you love. No character is ever 100% safe.

Darth Maul could have been a great villain, I think it was a huge mistake to kill him off in Episode 1 but that was the choice George Lucas made. When The Clone Wars Series and then now Star Wars Rebels says 'oh you know what we need a cool bad guy lets just say Darth Maul lived.' it cheapens Qui Gon Jinn's death and Obi Wan's victory over Maul. It ultimately cheapens the series because now we are saying that any character can come back.

I have really taken advantage of this new revamp of the Star Wars expanded universe. This comic was one of the first published media in the new canon. This graphic novel is based off of unproduced scripts from the 6th season of The Clone Wars.

Darth Maul starts this story escaping from Sidious and Dooku with the help of his Death Watch friends. General Grevious and more of Maul's Shadow Collective allies make appearances in this book.

I really enjoyed this book. It felt just like the tv show. I'm looking forward to more books following the storylines that were left open. I can't wait for Dark Disciple!

I give this graphic novel a 5/5! A must read for all Star Wars fans, especially those of the animated series.

First of all... Darth Maul: Sons of Dathomir is a direct tie-in/continuation of The Clone Wars CG animated show, if you haven't watched the entire TV series yet, you will not understand what's going on in this comic! This story is based off of unproduced screenplays from the show after it was cancelled and there are 3 major story arcs that directly tie in this particular story(meaning DON'T read this if you haven't watched the show).

Now, how is the graphic novel? It's a hell of a lot of fun but not as great as the original story arc in the show.

Fans of the show will know that the final Darth Maul arc is among, if not, the best story arc in the entire series and this comic directly continues that story, Darth Maul, Mother Talzin, Dooku and remnants from the Death Watch/Black Sun/Maul alliance all make appearances here.

On one hand its really cool to see more of this complex story and the Mandalorian-Maul troopers are front center and one of the most badass mash-ups ever created (and its CANON!). The story ties off some loose ends which is nice, has greater implication in the CW and has great action to boot.

But what keeps it from being truly great is that everything in the story felt much too familiar. Betrayal, deception, false plans/alliances etc., elements we all saw in the CW arc simply get rehashed here, making this feel like a 1.5 version of the Maul story arc rather than a full fledged story arc that can stand on its own two(robotic) feet. There just isn't enough new elements to keep it fresh. Also, while this story ties off some important loose ends, Darth Maul's story is still a bit open ended, so you may not get the complete closure you seek.

Writing: Decent to Above average(though doesn't quite reach the heights of the show)

The Art/Design: ranges from Above Average to Completely Badass

This is a fun albeit brief romp through the CW and well worth your time but just don't get your hopes up too high as this story feels more like an expansion pack to the CW rather than a full fledged sequel/continuation.

Nonetheless, for die-hard CW fans this is a must buy!

I thought I might clear some things up, cahse apparently people don't research things before buying them. First of all, this is a graphic novel of the four part comic series, not a novelisation. I don't know how this was so oft overlooked. Secondly, this is the new canon. This is the true story of Maul after the events in season 5 of TCW, so anyone who claims otherwise is still sour about Disney's acquisition. If you're into performing a completionist viewing/reading of everything, this IS a part of that. Thirdly, if you watch Rebels, you know that this isn't the end of Maul or Saxon, so this story does not wrap up anything, but rather helps to fill a gap between TCW and Rebels. I gave this 4 stars because the story isn't anything special, and neither is the art, but was still a fun read. Unfortunately, thanks to the rarity of some of these, they are pricey. Only buy this if you love the new canon, want a complete collection of this canon, and like to read comic books.

Another reviewer said that only Clone Wars veterans need apply; however, I have only watched the first eight episodes from Season One and I loved every bit of this! The story is dark and interesting, the characters and battles are awesome, and the art is stellar. This is my first Star Wars comic book and it has already made me want more Maul and Dooku. Get it!

As it is, this story is incomplete. Nothing has changed. Maul is still out there. Unless if he shows up in Rebels, I'm puzzled as to what Maul's fate is.

The art is well done and this certainly feels like a story arc from the Clone Wars show. I'm glad that they produced this and it was a quick and satisfying read, I only wish there were more.
