This book takes you beyond believing IN Christ. It's focus is on the promises God has made to us through the Atonement. Justice, Mercy, Grace are all intertwined---I never know what to write in these reviews so I will just say READ THIS! It is inspiring.

I really enjoyed this book. It explains things so well and I definitely recommend it to anyone who is wanting a better understanding of the atonement of Jesus Christ. The author has a way of putting things into perspective withoutuusing complicated words or phrases.

This is a superb book. Stephen Robinson, a professor of Ancient Scripture at BYU, has also taught in other institutions and has advanced degrees from institutions other than LDS ones. As a result, he brings a unique perspective to the question that seems to bedevil Mormons, "what is the role of the grace of Jesus Christ in my salvation and exaltation?" What is role of grace; what is the role of works?
I'm not going to tell you Prof. Robinson's interpretation of these important questions. You should read the book for yourself and discover what he has to say. I find his explanation compelling. It allows me to maintain my adherance to Mormonism, with its admitted emphasis on works of righteousness, and at the same time not have to explain away or rationalize scriptural passages (primarily in the New Testament but also in the Book of Mormon) that insist on the unregenerate nature of "the natural man," and the fact that humanity's salvation and exaltation come only by the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
There are very few books I've read (and I've read a lot!), wherein I can truly say the book has changed my life for the better. This is one of them. If you're LDS, this belongs on your bookshelf, right next to the Standard Works, the writings of B.H. Roberts, Hugh Nibley, John Widtsoe, Eugene England, Lowell Bennion, and James E. Talmage, the Documentary History of the Church, and B.H. Roberts' A Comprehensive History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 6 Volume Set plus Index (Box Set. It's that important! This book, and its follow-up, Following Christ: The Parable of the Divers and More Good News, deserve to be read and studied closely by every believing Latter-day Saint, by anyone who claims Mormonism is not a "Christian" religion, and by any person who seeks a greater knowledge of the person and work of the Savior Christ Jesus. Please buy it--then read it. Then thank God for the life and mission of His Only Begotten Son. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Besides the scriptures, this is one of the most valuable books out there. It's a true gem and a masterpiece. Stephen Robinson did an excellent job explaining the beauty and the simplicity of the Atonement of Christ. It's something I should have gleaned from the scriptures myself, but admittedly there is much I did not understand (or at least wasn't able to articulate very well) before reading this book.

What makes the book so powerful is that Robinson explains it on layman's, that is my terms. He starts out discussing the consequences of sin and mortality and then discusses grace, faith and works. Then he sheds more light on the Atonement and what Christ did, how and why. And most importantly, Robinson does and excellent job articulating what it all means for you and I and how we can take advantage of these great mercies and gifts offered to us by our loving Heavenly Father.

I re-read this book quite often and take it with me on business. I have given away a number of copies of this book to friends and strangers on the plane. This is one of those book that is truly life changing and I would recommend to anyone without hesitation.

"Believing Christ" is a wonderful gift of sensitivity and understanding for those of us who may be feeling that we can't possibly measure up to the expectations and demands of the gospel. Robinson explains, clarifies, and puts in proper perspective the ways in which too many of us place unnecessary limitations on our own growth and development, and the commonly accepted, well-meaning, but misleading interpretations of the scriptures and key principles of the Savior's atonement. He emphasizes the central message of Christ's atonement, that love conquers all, and shows how, with the Savior's sustaining influence and our own willingness to contribute our "mite", we can ultimately return to His side. Reading "Believing Christ" was an uplifting and encouraging experience, one that I believe is worth the attention of those new to the gospel, as well as those with a lifetime of service and commitment

There are many philosophical and dialectical principles and arguments in religion and other intellectual and spiritual areas of pursuit that I've never been able to grasp. One was the idea of Believing Christ as opposed to Believing IN Christ. As a new convert, this book was recommended to me many times. I finally picked it up at the store, and I could not put it down. It is clean, straightforward, a bit harsh at times (I like that though) and uncompromising in its truth, hope, and common sense. I recommend this book very highly to anyone seeking to understand the Mormon relationship to Christ, and to any Mormon who believes that he or she has lost the plot.

This was an excellent read about or sins, and how through not only believing Christ, but believing in Christ we can take part in the atonement and be uplifted in this life. I would recommend this book to people struggling through life.

Believing In Christ is one thing. Author Robinson shows how our belief is often tainted by self-doubt. Do we really believe that Christ, in His infinite atonement, reaches down and saves us from the consequences of our sins?
Our efforts to keep the commandments, to be nice to others and be good don't "qualify" us for God's salvation. Only Jesus makes up the difference we could never repay. The miracle is that His grace has paid the price for all of us. The difference comes in our acceptance of His grace. This book is an inspiration to me. I hope you will find it valuable too.

I originally resisted reading this book, as I considered it to be a fad within the Mormon culture. However, upon reading this book, I found it to be an incredibly profound, encouraging, and uplifting work. Stephen E. Robinson explains clearly the concepts of salvation through grace; Christ's atonement; and our need not to be perfect, but just to be doing the best we can with what we are and what we have. It has helped me to believe Christ, not just believe in Him. I would recommend Believing Christ to readers of any faith

This is the most insightful explanation of the Atonement of Christ outside of official scripture and modern authority. It combats misunderstanding and depression concerning the Lord's expectations of individuals. Nephi taught that we are saved by grace, "after all we can do." Robinson expounds upon that principle in a lucid, faithful, and compassionate manner, without succumbing to 20th century notions of pop-psychology or errant Protestant "saved-by-grace-alone" doctrine. Run and get it

Believing Christ is one of my favorites. Mr. Robinson does a great job explaining clearly the doctrine of Christ's atonement. I was inspired as I read this book. I felt a greater sense of hope for my eternal well being and I developed a greater desire to trust the Savior and his promises. I highly recommend this book to anyone. My favorite parable shared in this book is the parable of the bicycle. Read the book to learn more!
