What a tremendous book! Dr. Jeffress beautifully outlines and answers the questions we've all wondered about heaven and what happens to us after we die... he brilliantly explains why it is so important for us to focus on heaven right now...why we need to have an eternal perspective. After reading Dr. Jeffress' book, I am compelled now to share this with my friends and family, so they too will know about "A Place Called Heaven." Thank you for writing this!

I have wondered about each of the questions Dr. Jeffress addresses in this book. In light of eternity, our lives on earth are but a blip and I want to be as prepared as possible for my forever home. I love how this book takes what the Bible says about heaven and puts the puzzle pieces together to answer these FAQs. I will be giving this book to all of my friends.

I’m having a hard time reviewing this book because I feel that it had so many ups and downs. At times I was totally captivated by its depictions of heaven and the illustrations that made the words on the page seem real. But at other times my mind wandered and seemed that the pages may stretch on forever. I imagine that Heaven is something very difficult to write about. It’s a place no one has been and the Bible is really the one reliable source of information we have about Heaven.
I think Dr. Jeffress does a great job of bringing scripture into this book. He supports his conclusions well and you can tell every section has been bathed in the exposition of scripture. I think that is probably this book’s biggest check in the positive column. The biggest downfall is simply its length. I think that at times it stretched on further than necessary. Some things may have been able to be put in simpler terms to keep it slightly shorter and more engaging.
All that being said, I think this book deserves four out of five stars. It is not necessarily an easy read, and if you plan to read it, I would suggest giving yourself time to digest each suggestion. But, it does a great job of covering the difficult subject of the mystery of Heaven.

A great, encouraging new work by Dr.Robert Jeffress. Easy to read and very practical. Often Christians are reluctant to think about heaven but A Place Called Heaven removes the fear and helps us understand and look forward to our eternal home with the Lord.

I was impressed and blessed by this book. Dr. Robert Jeffress didn't just throw together information or ideas, he researched well and has proof to back up his claims. I had a few light bulb moments while reading this. Took many notes. It is not like reading an informational text, it was rather enjoyable and broken down well. I would recommend this to anyone.

One of the best books of explaining and putting scripture in order of coming events for Believers in Jesus Christ concerning Heaven as well as a very descriptive message using God's Holy Word concerning Unbelievers of God's Only Son born 2000 years ago. Many thanks to the author.

In his book A Place Called Heaven, Dr. Robert Jeffress gives deeply drawn answers to thoughtful questions about the afterlife. In a culture where Heaven has been watered down in entertainment by opinions, dreams and visions, Dr. Jeffress provides a text rooted in Scripture. This book impresses upon us the importance of living our lives with eternity in mind. A Place Called Heaven is not only a biblical commentary on what happens when we die, it is solid, spiritual direction on how we should live.

In "A Place Called Heaven", Dr. Robert Jeffress gives us a glimpse of heaven and prepares us to think biblically about our eternal home.  Our earthly life is but a breath, but our eternal life is going to be spent in either heaven or hell, and we need to know the truth about where we will spend eternity.

Many people don't believe in hell and some don't believe in heaven, but both are very real.  Dr. Jeffress puts eternity into perspective in his new book.  His explanation about our future home helps us explain to others why there is a place called heaven and why hell does, indeed, exist.  He helps us explain why we want them to choose heaven.

He doesn't use scare tactics but offers words of comfort and answers commonly asked questions in a biblical way.

In his new book, "A Place Called Heaven," Dr Jeffress states very clearly the importance of Heaven and how this very real place impacts our life here on earth. Sometimes it is easy for people to get caught up in moving from one day to the next they forget their daily choices on earth makes an eternal difference! Why should we care about a place called Heaven? What will we do in Heaven? Will we know one another in Heaven? These and so much more are the important questions that Dr. Jeffress answers in his new book. A great read for anyone looking to know more about Heaven.

One of the greatest books on heaven you will ever read! Dr. Jeffress clearly communicates the answers to the 10 most frequently asked questions about heaven directly from the Bible. Debunking common myths like "heaven will be one long church service," he leaves you longing (and preparing) for your eternal home. I highly recommend to anyone and everyone!

In his new book, A Place Called Heaven, Dr. Jeffress does a masterful job using scripture to help each one of us gain a clear understanding of Heaven. He does it with a simple and clear exposition of what the Bible says about Heaven: what heaven will be like, preparing for heaven, how heaven impacts our lives even now in this life, and many more areas that will encourage the believer and challenge those outside Christianity. There is not another book about Heaven that is as thorough as this one. It's a must read and a book you will want to recommend to friends.

In contrast to books that convey subjective experiential stories, Dr. Jeffress combs timeless truths from scripture to convey a Biblical account of what Heaven is like. You'll be fascinated by what the Bible teaches on this subject and encouraged by what lies at the end of life's long journey for those who place their faith in Christ.

This book has the distinction of being one of very few nonfiction books (apart from biographies) that I read in just a few sittings. I like to digest my non-fictions slowly but this book was so well written and so engaging that I breezed through it without any difficulty. Not to say that it only touched on light and breezy matters – this is eternity we are talking about! And all the facts are based on Scripture.
In between my reading sessions, I found myself thinking about what I learned about heaven. As the subtitle promises, I did learn a few surprising truths. For instance, did you know that you will retain your personality in heaven and God will assign you work that suits your talents?

Each mention of hell terrified me, but every mention of Heaven made me very very glad that I will be going there!

Quick and easy read, with interesting anecdotes and stories. Not dry nor academic.
Thank you, Netgalley and Baker Book House, for an excellent book. I recommend it without hesitation.

"A Place Called Heaven" by Robert Jeffress is a great title for anyone who wants to, as the title says, learn more about heaven. Around 240 pages, the book addresses many topics, some of which are:

1. The more we think of heaven, the more effective we will be on earth.
2. 4 ways thinking about heaven benefits life on earth.
3. 7 principles for evaluating so-called "near death experiences".
4. Descriptions of where the righteous (accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord) and unbelievers go immediately after death.
5. 3 myths about God and heaven.
6. 3 activities believers will enjoy in the new heaven and new earth.
7. Nothing we have said, thought, or done will escape God's scrutiny.
8. 5 types of crowns believers can receive from Jesus.
9. 4 signposts that point the way to heaven.
10. 6 practical steps to take to prepare for the journey to heaven.

The book is well-written, easily understandable (whether or not you may agree with the author's viewpoints), and smoothly transitions from topic to topic. The only issue I have is with his analogy about Jim Marshall's running to the wrong end zone that resulted in a safety (even though his team, the Minnesota Vikings, won the game). He states that Marshall was a Super Bowl champion. I was a Vikings fan growing up and remember them losing 4 Super Bowls (Kansas City, Miami, Pittsburgh, and Oakland) without ever winning the Super Bowl. Unless I am missing something, Jeffress' statement needs correction.

Comment aside, this is a very good read and will be a helpful resource for future lesson or messages on the topic of heaven. I was given a review copy by Baker Books in exchange for a fair review.

A Place Called Heaven
Dr. Robert Jeffress' new book, "A Place Called Heaven" (Baker Books) deals with very important questions. What is eternity like? Is heaven a real place? When do I exactly go to heaven? Will I know the people there? Will I know how my loved ones are doing back on earth? How will I occupy myself? And what do I make of those who have written books saying that they've already had the chance to visit heaven? Should I believe them?

Jeffress is a fine writer with an engaging style. He quotes everyone from CS Lewis to Joni Eareckson Tada. I received a review copy of the book just a couple of days ago and really couldn't put it down.

Depending on your Christian upbringing you might not agree with every conclusion by Jeffress. But "A Place Called Heaven" just might fill you with hope. Like the apostle Paul, Christians find themselves longing to be with Jesus which is better by far. Jeffress' book offers the assurance that no matter which trials and struggles we face in this life, the one Jesus is preparing for us cannot be equaled. And we'll enjoy it for all eternity!

A Place Called Heaven: 10 Surprising Truths About Your Eternal Home by Dr. Robert Jeffress takes on the task of talking about heaven in a way that doesn't fall into the categories of cliche, hyperbole, and caricature. Using Scripture as his guide, the author does a commendable job in his endeavor.

Though there are certain parts of the book that the author may have overreached and been a bit too literal in the interpretation of texts that have a context of imagery, the book does a good job of laying biblical support of the topic of heaven - even in ways that go against some commonly held (and extra-biblical or unbiblical) beliefs that some Christians hold onto regarding the topic.

Disclosure: I received this book free from Baker Books through the Baker Books Bloggers program. The opinions I have expressed are my own, and I was not required to write a positive review. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Has a lot more depth than I originally anticipated. It was recommended by a colleague. This is not the usual kind of book I read, but I couldn't put it down. Author has a way of dealing with this difficult subject with considerable subtlety. I was impressed.

I am frankly disappointed in Dr. Jeffress’ book. He certainly has the professional training and experience to write on the subject, but he mixes prophetic/poetic/and narrative writing and assumes them all to be intended as factual. Take, for instance, Jesus’ parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man. Jeffress seems to interpret this as literal fact, that Jesus was intending to convey to His audience a true picture of heaven and to be teaching His audience about heaven. That is not the only possible view of this parable, but Jeffress uses a literal interprestation to support further suppositions on the nature of life after death and indeed the nature of heaven itself. What may well be figures of speech, or literary devices, has been turned into fact. I believe that the author also uses the very challenging book of Revelation in the same manner, taking what might be symbolic images into a literal interpretation. I believe that a discerning reader will not have a greater understanding of heaven after reading this book.

Dr. Jeffress offers wonderful clarity on an often mysterious subject. He provides great scriptural insights to help answer the questions many people wrestle with about life after death. This is a great resource for anyone who is seriously questioning the brevity of this life and what comes next. Solid answers given with simple, elegant clarity.

If anything this book has reminded me that we should seek God’s truth in God’s Word - not man’s. Everything God wanted you to know about Heaven is in the Bible. Jeffress claims that 2 Peter 1:11, Revelation 2:7, and Luke 12:37 is only for SOME Christians. I don’t understand how he came to that conclusion. The verses themselves imply no exclusivity or elitism. I don’t think this book is all bad, but I do think some of it is off, even incorrect. Just keep a Bible handy for reference and use discernment while reading it.
