Charles Spurgeon is definitely a preacher's preacher and a fisher of men. He articulates very well the objective and strategy of winning souls to God. Most importantly, he emphasizes prayer and self-searching.

I'm certain this book contains good material. Charles Spurgeon is a wise teacher. The only problem is that the print is so very tiny. I'd prefer to pay extra for a few more pages of print than to try and find a magnifier that will help.

Wow - who would have thought a message written more than 100 years ago could be so relevant for today's church? Spurgeon's writings are founded on Scripture and model what the early church was taught. His writing style may be a bit dated, but the application is as timely today as ever. He knows how to get to the heart of the issue by removing all the fancy wrappings and just teaching what Jesus taught. I'm so thankful we have Spurgeon's notes in writing to renew our view our Scripture today.

Every Christian who is series about winning souls to Christ should take the time to read this teaching by Spurgeon . I found it to be encouraging to learn from one of the great christian teachers how to reach the lost people of this world.

Although Spurgeon was one of the great preachers of yesteryear, I cannot see calvinism in the Bible. He makes several references to their TULIP beliefs that the Bible would not agree with. That being said, I do not discard the man's teachings as whole. He was very gifted and was used of the Lord mightily, despite that one thing.

This is exactly the kind of legalism that has driven people away from Christ. Written in reaction to the relativism and humanist secularization of the times, the author misses the sweeping implications of Grace and how God lovingly woos each of us into a deeper walk so that we may grow into the full stature of Christ

I have read "The Soul-Winner" on numerous occasions, so when I saw that it was available on the Kindle I was more than happy. However, that soon changed when I opened this edition and found that the table of contents wasn't linked, and there were many typo's in the book. For instance instead of "W" one would see "Vv" some words could be deciphered others went untranslated. Very disappointed.

If you are looking for a foundational work to give Biblical truths to support the task of winning people for Jesus, this book is for you. Charles Spurgeon provides excellent insight into what it means to be a follower of Christ. From the beginning of the book to the end, Spurgeon is able to illustrate the need to follow the example of great leaders such as Peter and Paul, who were solely seeking to share the truth of the Gospel with every person that they encountered. He reminds us that “Soul-winning is the main pursuit of every true believer.” (p. 5). He addresses the hindrances and obstacles that can prevent a believer from being effective in sharing his or her faith. He allows the reader to understand that there is always a cost when it comes to following Jesus, but that reward for obedience is far greater than the cost that must be paid. He offers opportunities for person and communal reflection and encouragement, and he helps the reader to recognize that the task set before him or her is not an easy one, but is a necessary one to ensure obedience to the commands of Christ and the expansion of Christ’s Kingdom.
Without question, this writing is an essential read for every believer, but specifically those who are cautious and apprehensive about evangelizing the lost. Spurgeon uses great imagery and direct scripture that allow each reader the opportunity to focus in on one specific task at a time, whether, it is the recognition of one’s own faults, the necessity of all people to be saved, or the reality that doing the work of the Lord takes time: “Do not expect to get, in the first year of your pastorate, that result which is the reward of twenty years’ continuous toil in one place.”(p.71). These tasks are addressed, defined, clarified, and a solution is presented to conquer all obstacles that will emerge. Spurgeon’s writing, removes any feelings of doubt and fear, and instills a sense of courage. There is a recognition and a constant reminder that the task at hand is the Lords, and the power and strength come from Him alone: “Christ, God’s great Soul-Winner, is ‘the wisdom of God’ as well as the ‘power of God.’”(p.133)
Whether a person is developing a discipleship program, seeking to understand Charles Spurgeon better, working to improve upon his or her evangelistic abilities, or simply wanting to expand his or her academic and Biblical library, this book is a wonderful tool to possess. It provides scriptural references and theological truths that any believer can utilize in both developing and sharing his or her faith. The reader of this book will not be dissatisfied, because the lessons are timeless and forever applicable.

Spurgeon is the master of painting vivid pictures with his words. He has the best analogies and the best clarity of anyone I've ever read. This book on 'Soul Winning,' or leading sinners to the Savior is the best book I've ever read on evangelism... ever (and I've read quite a few). Why? Because it absolutely drives me to God. And that drives me to evangelize and be a 'soul winner.' This book absolutely rocked me, humbled me, and comforted me. It has reminded me of my own salvation and reminded me of the other salvations I have seen. The most shocking thing to me in this book was Spurgeon's absolute confidence that GOD would SAVE. He had full confidence because he knew the power in the message he preached and the God who worked through the message. It has filled me with so much wisdom and helped me to see my faults in areas I needed to see them. It heavily uses the word of God (it is Spurgeon after all) which pierces my heart. It is, I'd say, the best Christian book I've ever read in my life. MUST READ.

There are many books on witnessing today, most of which are just a collection of prepared anwers to the most common objections of cultists, atheists and members of other religions. This approach may be good to sell books, but not to win souls, because it does not take count that every individual is different, and we have to adapt in order to be effective evangelizers.
Spurgeon's approach is completely different. He does not give us a systematic approach to witnessing, but rather he simply explains what it means to win a soul, why it is so important, possible obstacles and so forth with so much heart, dedication and evident love for God's Word that after I finished it I was totally inspired to go out on the streets and tell everybody about the wonderful Good News of Jesus Christ.
Every page is filled with personal stories, anecdotes and practical examples that make this book a pleasure to read.
A must read.

Many years ago, I participated in a week of outreach led by Lex Loizides at the end of the week he presented everyone with a copy of a paperback Christian book- C. H . Spurgeon's the soulwinner. Why that book you might well ask. Why would a book written during the Victorian era in London make my list of books every christian should read?
Quite simply there is no book more calculated to unsettle us from our willingness to accept a form of chrisitanity that was as alien to Spurgeon as it was to Paul, that when week after week no one gets saved in our churches. Spurgeon expected salvations every time he preached and got them.
Spurgeon outlines the kind of preaching we need to preach, but also the kind of people we need be to win souls. If you want your heart stirred to greater faith, and greater work for souls there is no better book to read. It is short and a great introduction to this man of God who was probably the greatest English speaking preacher to have ever lived. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Spurgeon is no hyper-calvinist urging a message that says "whosoever may come" but at the same time he is no Arminian either. His faith in the sovereignty of God in ordaining both salvation and the means of salvation inspires his confidence that God intends to save many by the means of us his servants.
Be warned, if you read this book and respond to its message you will find yourself dissatisfied with the state of the church today. If it drives you to your knees crying out to God to help us to see a restoration of soulwinning preaching it will have done its job well- as it has with many before you.

This is a very good instructional book about Soul Winning. Some of the phraseology was hard to follow being the early English format and such. Spurgeon was ahead of his time when it came to this subject. This book in particular, was taken from several of his sermons and lectures on the subject on soul winning. A lot of these ideas that he brings can still be used today to win souls for the kingdom of God.
