Are you living life to your fullest potential? How do you feel physically, emotionally, and psychologically? Mark Hyman, MD, will provide you with valuable insight, tools, and advice on how to heal your body naturally in order to maximize your physical and mental well being.

Although the book is rather lengthy, it is a quick read that is full of practical advice that will require you to fully examine what you are doing in your life and how making changes in lifestyle can enhance physical and mental health.

If you don't feel the way you used to or want you, look no further. This book will change how you think about your health.

I love the directness and detail in the book. Also the fact that medical language has been presented in a way that can be understood.
I just finished the book, already applied some of the suggestions while I was reading and they give results immediately. The tests are helpful and supportive and make his book not only extremely informative but also very practical.
I would recommend it to my closest people as it gives the life back.

Broken brain. Yes, that's been a problem. Dr. Hyman's cogent explanation of why and how meditation works was a crucial piece of information that I'd been missing. His knowledge of mercury poisoning is appreciated, see a book on Dr. Andrew Cutler's protocol such as "Fight Autism and Win, 2nd Edition" or Dr. Cutler's challenging "Amalgam Illness" for more detail. That's what the DAN! doctors were taught and (some) made unfortunate modifications to. Or Google, there's quite a bit of free info out there but the books are still recommended.

My one complaint is that he got taken in by the fraudulent "China Study" on nutrition. I'd look to the ketogenic diet books instead, such as "The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living" and "Keto Clarity". Carbohydrate intolerance appears to be my primary problem and keto's low carb, moderate protein, high fat approach looks like the only way for me to go. Paleo helped but was inadequate. YMMV.

I am very interested in all things dealing with alternative medicine as I believe that our current way of healing is badly flawed and that the AMA are deliberately trying to suppress methods of healing that do not promote Big Pharma. The book was well packed and received in excellent condition and I highly recommend the seller.

I really appreciate the holistic approach Dr. Hyman took in explaining how to achieve balance and brain health. After initially reading about 20% of the book I began implementing a mostly plant-based diet and only two meals a day in combination with yoga, and saw dramatic results in my overall wellbeing, not to mention weight loss (15 lbs to a normal BMI). I will try introducing the supplements Dr. Hyman recommended to see how I feel. Read the book and try the strategies out for yourself because you deserve a life lived with full clarity and vitality!

Dr. Hyman is an innovative physician whose message on functional medicine is based on scientific fact. His wellness centered approach focuses on preventative care vs. the diagnosis and drug treatment approach of typical doctors in the U.S. Within days of beginning his 6 week program, I felt like a different person. Simple dietary and nutritional changes have also increased the focus and improved sleep of my 2 young children. I recommend this book for both those seeking answers to long term health issues as well as those seeking vitality and ultimate health!

I believe that if everyone would try to follow some of Dr. Hyman's recommendations human life expectancy would improve by leaps and bounds. Mental health, excluding Alzheimer's Disease, would become much less of a problem. But from what I have seen people in general will not make the effort. Most people will only walk to their cars and stroll around slowly while they shop. Also, they eat only for recreation. To most people recreational eating is valued as highly as recreational sex.

Didn't actually think I would finish this book, but I did. And I thoroughly enjoyed every page that I read. Author made it easy to read, and although I didn't know a lot of the medical terms, his descriptions were very helpful. The personal stories and quizzes made it more of an interesting read. My sister read a short portion of it to me in the car, and at first was very hesitant but ended up wanting to read more. She found it very interesting. I'm so happy with this purchase and glad that I came across this book. Would recommend to anyone and everyone!

Thank you the store for such great service, I am pleased each time I have ordered books and kitchen items. This book is just great. Quite simple to read and follow Mark Hymam, MD and the path he takes you on to improve yourself! And I think that each person reading this will find the solution for them. We all have 'broken' brains and boosting ones brain power will balance your life and health. All the information is practical, useful and easy to read and follow.

I participated in the Ultra Mind Solution. I only gave it 2 weeks before I failed, then picked it back up. When I really stuck to the elimination of sugar, processed products and hydrogenated oils, I found it easy to substitute healthy nuts and was very satisfied. They key for me was the discipline of exercise which alleviated my fatigue, even though I had to initially fight the fatigue in order to exercise. The closer and longer I stuck to the book's suggestions, the better I felt. I also don't have the debilitating aches and pains that added to the vicious cycle of fatigue, which in turn made me desire junk food. I did not give it enough time and have to re-read it to get inspired, but I would highly recommend the book as a jump start to healthy living.

This is a very "in-depth" book detailing nutrition down to the cellular level. I liked the audiobook so much, I bought the hard-back for reference. It was highly informative even for someone like me who has been in the health field for 35 years. Hyman is an up & coming MD who got my attention 2 years ago while listening to another of his audio-books. Lots of information packed into 1 book. The material covered can be too detailed for some, but if you are interested in learning everything you ever wanted to know about how nutrition effects our minds then this will intrigue you.

This book answered so many questions and solved so many of my health problems just by doing simple things to adjust my diet in order to have a more fully functional brain and alleviate the short term memory loss and confusion. Definitely recommend it!

I have been following Dr. Hyman's Ultramind solution for about three weeks. It was hard not having coffee, gluten, sugar and dairy. But I can feel a real difference. I do not have headaches, my nose is clear (it used to be perpetually stuffy) and I am much less forgetful and not so depressed. I would recommend it for anyone!

Haven't finished the book yet but it's incredibly informative. Sure, he repeats the principles of Functional Medicine a lot and it can be a bit annoying, but the information contained in here is worth every second of your time.

Very detailed and informative on the significance of how the mind/body work together and affect each other. Dr. Hyman builds on his previous book entitled UltraMetabolism. It is obvious that as a medical doctor, he strongly believes in the information he presents in the book. He gives case histories of the beneficial results he has seen in his patients.

This book is fine for purchasers who have never bought a book based on "sugarless" diets ie: Sugarbusters, Hallelujah Acres, Susanne Summers, etc.

This book is simply a rehash and twist of those types of diets leaning on brain improvements versus weight loss, with perhaps more detail on supplementation.

That said, if your new to this type of diet the book is complete and comprehensive.

This is definitely a more healthy approach to life and in my experience, the diets do work, although I am not so sure about my brain being boosted!

The Ultramind solution by Dr. Hyman is a really really great book, it is a book everyone needs to read and re-read (yep it is that good). I am about 3/4 through reading the book and I have to say I am happily pleased by all that I have read. It opens up your eyes to so much.
Together with my previous knowledge on health - mental, physical and spiritual, I feel that I now have an added advantage at improving my overall health and well being. Thank you Dr. Hyman!

Dr. Hyman is on the cutting edge of medicine. This is the kind of information anyone can use for getting their health back on track. Well-written and well-researched, the book gives practical steps towards taking back control of your own health, both mental and physical. The brain is not separate from the body; it is an integral part of the body. If mental hospitals and prisons would follow this path, we'd be way ahead of the game.

Interesting concepts are presented in relation to dietary intake and heavy metal exposure and how they relate to brain functions. He presents enough basic info to cause one to pause and consider that health concerns might be treated/dealt with by modifying ones diet and assessing the heavy metal content in your body.

The book is written in easy to understand text that does not require the reader to be a biochemist to understand the basic precepts.

Although there are several different resources that discuss things like hormone balance as we age, reducing inflammation and helping your digestive system function effectively, this is the first book to put everything together in a clear, concise and authoritative manner. Dr. Hyman has great medical credentials and this book is extensively footnoted. The first half of the book explores how different medical problems can actually be related to things that conventional practitioners overlook, like nutritional deficiencies, hormone problems, a proliferation of bad intestinal flora or general inflammation. There are convenient checklist-type tests that guide you into the areas where your body may be out of balance. The last half of the book suggests treatments based upon the problems that you have. These treatments could involve nutritional supplements, diet changes, exercise, detoxification or lifestyle modification.
Dr. Hyman doesn't advocate throwing away your prescription drugs and dropping your doctor, but rather chooses to explore ways that you can move away from pharmaceutical addiction at a cautious pace. I always find that the dietary suggestions are the hardest to take, but in just a couple of weeks, I've made good progress on that front and I've gained a better understanding of my personal supplementation needs based on the information in this book. It is a terrific general resource that is well-written, filled with interesting case studies and concrete suggestions for improving your health at any age. It represents a good investment in your health.

Mark Hyman's book of documented information about causes for autism to schizophrenia is fascinating. It puts the responsibility on each of us to check the ingredients of our food, and eat fresh, whole food. Our world is filled with toxins which cause illnesses, too. I have bought this book for friends because it explains how the body functions and what we can do to help cure our illnesses,in an understandable manner.

Was enjoying the book with high hopes, until I've suddenly stumbled upon the end of page 107-108 which suggests supplementing GABA directly, and even references a study which supports the anxiolytic effects of GABA supplementation.

Now, if this is true, I must admit I've wasted a year of my life studying biochemistry. As far as I understood, raw intake of GABA is next to useless since it doesn't cross the blood brain barrier. A medication such a phenibut (GABA with an attached phenyl group) could cross the BBB, where the phenyl group dissociates leaving free GABA in the brain, where you can feel the very real effects of GABA.

Having supplemented with GABA before my studies and noticing no effects, I dismissed my prior endeavours as stemming from ignorance.

Now, if GABA, as according to Dr Hyman and the referenced study does indeed promote relaxation and anxiolysis, I'll admit I don't know not a thing that I'm talking about.. about anything. I'm going to introspect and self-reflect on my ignorance, and I'd give this book 5 stars for bringing me to this realization. But if the book has got this wrong, I cannot trust any of it, and must admit I'd be hugely disappointed, and question the authenticity of pretty much everything else in it, since this is a pretty basic aspect of metabolism as far as I'm aware.

So which one is it? Can anyone with some knowledge offer their opinion? Does GABA supplementation in the gut really work to promote GABA transmission in the brain?

Love learning from Dr Hyman but had great difficulty reading this version of his book.. It has vey small print. Gave it away to a young person. He wasn't thrilled with the size of the print either. Disappointed.

Being an fitness instructor in Phoenix, we get asked all the time about nutrition. I feel that this book is straight talk . Our society needs straight forward answers to make true life long changes. Thank you and I will continue to recommend Dr. Hyman's book.

This book really arouses my brain, literally. If we apply all what is in this book, it would not be good for doctors or pharmacists. Hope alot of people read this book and try to apply these findings for themselves.

I have followed Dr. Hyman's UltraSimple Diet and found it to be very effective. So, purchasing this book was a no-brainer. I really like the way he thinks about the body and that we can make drastic changes by getting back to basics and giving our body what it needs or getting rid of what it doesn't. I am a great fan of his.

How to change brain chemistry without pharmaceuticals? I needed to answer this question for myself and my child, because we are too sensitive to take drugs. The solution that my health provider supplied was a subset of the UltraMind Solution. This book has the elements that worked for us, and much more.

I've been working with kids who struggle in school for years, and have found that, for some kids, the therapies and trainings I do will not work until the nutritional needs are taken care of. I have been recommending this book to many people since I got it.

Great book, full of important information. Perhaps too much for most people, but great for practitioners like myself. Functional Medicine is indeed the medicine of the future and, in fact, very similar to naturopathic medicine.
