I bought this book after watching her show on Bravo.
She tells us to visualize ourselves as if we are the athlete we want to become. She gets us to think of our body as a machine that craves clean healthy fuel. This book is where I first learned that sugar and not fat was the culprit.
I pulled this book out from my shelf to skim through it again and found that many of the exercises were the military ones I was doing in Crossfit.
There are good recipes too.

This book is fantastic. It actually educates us on how our body works and what parts of our body (hormones, organs) does what and how to Naturally feed our body to make it either burn fat, or store it. It's more than just eat this and not that, it's education. This plan works, you don't feel like you're restricted like on some diets. This isn't a "diet", it's a lifestyle change - and it works.

Great book with knowledge of getting healthy and staying fit and trim. I've been following this healthy way of eating for over a month and have been amazed at how much more I've been eating, but have lost weight. It's definitely a lesson on what foods make a difference in weight loss and feeling better.

This book has information that I had never heard before. She get's into every aspect of how and why you lose weight and why people fail at it. I've never heard anyone else explain it the way she does, and she's not just talking off the top of her head, she's done the research. Anyone trying to lose weight, especially anyone who has failed, this book is a must! LOVE IT

Overall this book provides useful information for someone looking to improve their overall diet and eating in a balanced way. BUT there is conflicting information. Jackie recommends numerous herbal supplements that with more research can WORSEN conditions and imbalances that she cautions can contribute to weight gain. Bottom line it doesn't hurt to check other sources before starting this regimen.

I have read some many book about weight/ weight loss books that I am taking a break from. I had brought this book and added to my collection without even reading it. I was cleaning my selve off and realize I didn't read it. I must tell you Jackie Warner have a way of putting her words meaning my eyebrows raised up several times. I like the honesty and I really like that I understand it.

She really educates the reader on why people do get fat. However, whenever you restrict yourselves from eating what you love, you will feel deprived no matter what. It is an easy read, I would recommended.

I have been following this plan for the last month and have to say that Jackies simple approach to diet and nutrition is right on! No gimmicks, no fad diets, no deprivation, just hard work and common sense eating. She makes fitness and nutrition easy to understand and simple to follow. I am a mother of 4 and I now have my whole family eating better and my husband is also doing the workouts, we are both seeing amazing results. Wonderful book, wonderfully written, highly recommend.

This book is fantastic. It explains her approach in easy to understand arguments and then offers VERY CONCRETE ways to approach her plan. The 5 + 2 plan is doable and makes it feel attainable. I've just started but hope to have success with this book and approach.

Information on eating and food plans/menu are great! I like that the food listed is "real" food most of us average people eat everday. ..no major changes to your shopping list. The exercises are good but I prefer DVD's to follow.

I couldn't put this book down. Jackie is straightforward, no fluff. She tells you everything that makes you fat. I think we already know it; but don't want to change. I could identify many of my bad food habits, and this book tells me exactly what consquences there are from eating that food. You don't have to do everything she talks about; just make changes. One positive change leads to another, and pretty soon you are hooked on health and fitness. I loved the book, took notes (because there was so much information I wanted to remember), and will read it again and again. Wonderfully written and very motivational!

I have read a lot of nutrition and exercise books as an avid exerciser and runner. This book really made sense to why I was feeling tired all the time. I never had paid attention to the amount of sugar that is in food-only fat, carbs and calories. I was amazed how much sugar is in everyday food and once I cut it out I was amazed how much better I felt! Great book and I have recommended it to friends and family members already.

this is an amazing book. Jackie is very real with the problem that is sugar in our diets. Im much more aware of what an athletes diet should consist of. She is really motivational with training and eating. I was first introduced to this book on her show Thintervention. After I saw the amazing results that her clients on the show obtained, i knew I had to read this book. Im definitely on the path to reaching my fitness goals thanks to this read!

Jackie Warner celebrity trainer says this book is for the fat and frustrated. I think at many points in my life I would fall into the frustrated category. As a male in my late thirties (37) a dramatic shift has occured in my overall relationship with diet, health, and exercise fitness. If I take a quick moment to flashback 10 years and view myself and habits I immediately notice the following:
I could eat whatever I wanted, and not gain an ounce. However, through this immediate observation I would also notice that taking advantage of this fact is the main culprit of any health or fitness struggle I had in my recent years.
Although, a few years back I could not say that I was overweight, but I would not have been able to say that I was in the best shape of my life. And though I know why now due to my own study of nutrition and the body, Jackie has done a great job reaching the deeper me and holding my attention to follow through with my understanding and knowledge I have gained through the years.
The bottom line for me personally. I had been systematically destroying the relationship with my body's chemistry. In other words my hormones were out of whach. Jackie has done a great job reminding me why. Although, the book for the most part is written with the woman in mind. One can draw a great deal of information from many aspects of the book.
Decreasing my testosterone, not increasing the foods that naturally increase and maintain levels of Human Growth Hormone that has been shown to be the fountain of youth for woman and men. Are just a few of the things that I have not been promoting in my daily life. RESULT. I have been losing drive, muscles, and a general good sense of well being. From a womans point of view women can draw a good deal of information on estrogen and progesterone and how both play a great deal in the maintenance of a womans body.
How have I been doing this. Well, Jackie says carbs are not to be consumed past 9pm. My personal biggest problem. I can't help but eat that bowl of cereal. And lets be honest that bowl from IKEA is more like 5 servings of that special K.
Lack of sleep, over caffinated, lack of a sustained exercise ROUTINE are just few of the others that are also not balanced in my life.
The book is worth it's weight in gold just for the tips to help one balance their hormones and how to naturally and easily do it. Like finding out what the top four hormones that make you fat are.
Jackie says, "Changing my lifestyle and my body has shown me that only I control my life and what it throws me. We all lose control and make bad decisions for ourselves. The key to weight loss and great self-esteem is decreasing the frequency of those mistakes."
For many of us I believe we truly don't know what those mistakes are. We all should be primarily concerned to understand what our personal mistakes are that aid in a less then healthy lifestyle.
Beyond the chemistry inbalance that I learned from the book. Jackie also helps one understand why you must add food to increase fat loss and why deprivation does not work (the mechanics of metabolism). And some others are:
-what foods are hormone-balancing and detoxifying.
-how to sustain and maintain balanced energy.
-also how to take back self-control and maintin your ideal weight in the real world. (Jackie makes it clear that our thinking is of great importance to weight loss and a sustained healthy lifestyle.
After receiving a good dose of education on our body's chemistry Jackie does a great job with promoting her very doable exercise routine. She primarily focuses on form, function and fatigue which is key to increasing the chance of sticking with a routine. By preventing early burn out or injury. She does this by helping one understand that you don't need to be in a gym for 2 hours to achieve results. Instead its all about efficiency incorporating a balanced understanding of cardio with resistance training that amplifies your diet efforts to jumpstart and intensify your metabolism.
Although, some of the exercises could be viewed as a bit difficult, she helps to remind you that you must start off with the right amount of weight. For instance, the wide dumbbell pull utilizes resistance training by holding a set of dumbbells and pulling them up towards the shoulders, while bent half way at waist. Well, if you are only in possession of one set of dumbbells that are ten pounds it could be a problem if you are exercising at home and are limited with a weight set. You would have to think about acquiring a lower weight to perform the routine and build up to the ten pounds. However, this is a very small obstacle to overcome if it means to become and be stronger, and healthier.
Overall, the exercise routines are very doable.
In conclusion I highly recommend the book as an overall investment to your health particularly if you are a woman. It will help you understand why your overweight or not feeling as healthy as you once did or should feel at any age. Stay maintained and focused on your health through the right mindset, and finally incorporating an exercise routine the right way.

I LOVE this book. Jackie breaks down exactly how to eat clean in order to balance hormones, detox your liver and overworked organs, how to work out to intensity and get results, and generally increase your energy and quality of life. I have had some of her workout DVD's and her 10 Lbs in 10 days book, and I enjoyed them as well, but this one really gives you all of the information that your need to change your life forever.

I watch her show, "Intervention," and it is a very good show. I really like Ms. Warner's views on diet and exercise. I, myself, am using it as a diet/exercise tool. I will let you know how it goes.

I have only positive things to say about Jackie's theories about hormones, nutrition, and diet. She has basically brought back a diet (simple - low sugar, protein and vegetables and fruit) that has been written about in many other places (the original Zone book, for example). The idea is that if a food is as close as possible to its original state, our bodies utilize all of the food in a healthy way. Foods that are processed or contain white flour and sugar (2 items that are highly processed) act to mess up our metabolisms and hormones.
Cons:
1. The recipes provided are extremely boring. Seasoning can do wonders for food, and for some reason Jackie opted to completely leave out ideas like herbs and spices in the recipes themselves. So you'll have to make up your own. Plus, the recipes are simple to the point of ridiculousness...a piece of protein and steamed veggies with a little brown rice just doesn't cut it day in and day out. More recipes for sauces would have been nice.
2. The exercise regimen is on the tough side. I'm in pretty good shape, but after a week of only cardio I was tired by the 5th day. Am wondering if I can get through the upcoming weight section. My advice is to scale back as needed, or you'll be exhausted every day and potentially give up.
On a positive note I lost 3 pounds in the first 2 days....none since, but maybe my muscles are adding weight!!!

I first discovered this book in the library and just couldn't put it down. The nutritional facts, advice seemed so practical that Jackie provided. I started her two week jump-start and began feeling more energy than I'd felt in a very long time. I had separation anxiety about returning the book to the library, so decided to search for it used on the store. Jensen-online bookstore had it for 1 cent!!! I basically paid for shipping. It came in good condition. Only a few markings inside, but other than that, you couldn't beat the price. Jensen bookstore is one of my favorite the store bookstores as I trust that anything I order comes on time, in good condition and I will be satisfied.
Now, back to the book:) I am still in the two week jump start program, so I will update my review afterwards. I also want to add, Jackie's two week jumpstart program isn't about deprivation. She adds fat burning and nutritional foods to whatever your eating regimen presently is. There are a few other phases after the two-week jump start that I am to follow and I must say I am looking forward to it. She has it down to a science. This was such a great buy!!

It's one of the only books that doesn't just stress how being overweight affects your health and all that- she also talks a lot about that you also want to lose weight to feel and look hot!
As someone who is already in good shape and just wants to lose a few pounds, but get to the root why I need to change some of my eating habits in the first place- this was the PERFECT book.
