I've been following John Conroe's other works when I saw this and decided to give it a try. I was very pleasantly surprised to see it was a stand-alone work set in the same world, with a MINOR but important character crossover appearance in it. I fully enjoyed reading this book, and hope the main characters reappear in future works. I also liked his description of the various 'critters' in it (trying to not give anything away here) and their motivations.

I loved his attention to detail and the development of the characters. Really goes into what we're willing to do for those we love. I'd rave more about it because I love this book, I'm force feeding it to my best friend, but I don't want to spoil it for you all.

Not too happy with the description because in my mind it states the obvious, but then I'm retired military. The story developed and flowed well. Yeah, so, it got brutal. People who go after someones family get whatever that family can dish out. In this case, quite a bit. Not giving any spoilers. The treatment reminds me of some of John Ringo's work.

Finished the book in just 5 hours. Answered lots of questions related to the FAE and also about Ashley & her Fathers background. Coincides with the other books from the Demon Accords series especially with College Arcane. It makes me extremely excited for the upcoming book one where: Declan, Stacia, Mack, and Jetta all travel to the world of the FAE ;))) This book is like the movie Taken combined with the Grimm Brothers fairy tale set in modern times!

This is a side story from the demon accords series. Even though it was short it was very well done, that in such a short story managed to convey an entirely new world and open up a slew of new challenges for the main story arc.

This was a nice side tale of more supernatural species in the Demon Accords Universe. We learn about Ian and his fight against the Elves. The elves are here to kidnap children and they want Ian's daughter. It's too bad he knows how to work iron and firearms. I can't wait to see how this fits into the rest of the world.

This book was a departure from his series, The Demon Accords but there were a couple of common characters from that series that make a showing at the end which pleased me to no end. I cannot wait for MORE from this Author, I turned my brother onto him and he now is also a fan. Carry on Mr. Conroe, your books are amazing!?

While this story initially appears to be a stand-alone within the author's universe, the story's conclusion shows that it is, in fact, a part of the "Demon Accord" universe -- just a side issue, that may come into play in future stories.
The story begins with another plane or universe broaching our own, with those crossing over "stealing" persons with special talents as part of a breeding program to supplement (their) population that has gone on for a very long time. Action sequences are targeted towards dealing with the "invaders", eventually crossing over into the "invaders" plane/universe, with an interesting twist as the story's conclusion.

Written as a narrative, like all of Conroe's books, the story is separate from - though tied into - his Demon Accord universe. This story deals with the Faerie-incursion that Conroe brought up in Fallen Stars.

The story overall is just like Conroe's other books in that it is packed with action and flows quickly from one point to another. The characters are properly portrayed as having a hard time believing the circumstances happening around them. And, the "take" Conroe brings to the legends of Faerie is...different.

Overall, this is a good addition, if a sideline, to Conroe's successful Demon Accords series. The story is enjoyable, filled with plots and sub-plots, and as action-packed as any of Conroe's other books.

Overall Feedback: As with all of his novels thus far Conroe exceeds expectations and does a fine job with entertaining us for another chapter in the Demon Accord Series. I would not rate this as the best in the series but I still think it is well worth the read.

Point of View: Only adds to the storyline and stays within the concept of the series.

Voice: Stays in line with the series and drives the reader through in a flash.

Character Development: By now we already know the characters but just when you are happy in your knowledge Conroe brings in some more details.

Plot: Perfectly aligned with the series and shows that the Author paid attention to the series overall and not just to each story. Only issue is some things were left unsaid and a novice gun owner would be a bit confused.

Dialogue: Flawless as expected by this author.

Pacing: Again lightning fast and over before you want it to be.

Setting: Conroe is excellant at placing characters in a believable place, time and circumstance.

Continuity: Does not miss a beat and drives home the thought and I my opinion view of the story. "How would you deal with loss?"
