Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge is a young boy trying to find the answer to the question, "What is a memory?" Wilfrid sweetly collects items that will help Miss Nancy find her memory. This book is extremely touching. When I read this book to teachers, there is not a dry eye left in the room by the time I am finished, including mine.
I begin journal writing every year by reading Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge by Mem Fox. (preschool - third grade / public school and homeschool) After Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge helps Miss Nancy find her memory, I engage the children in a discussion about their own special memories. This gentle book inspires children to write about their memories. A much better approach to journal writing than impersonal writing prompts.

No matter how many times I read "Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge" by Julie Vivas, this book never fails to touch something deep inside my heart. It's about a little boy who lives next to a retirement home and his friendship with the people who live there. We get to see these elderly people in a little boy's eyes. And the thoughtful illustrations by Mem Fox show us quite clearly. (I love the illustrations) The touching and simple relationship between Wilfred Gordon and Miss Nancy is poignant to the core. Wilfred Gordon's desire to revive Miss Nancy's lost memory is sweet and absolutely delightful. It's a great story to share with children about memories and Alzheimer's disease. The world seems a much friendlier place through a child's eyes. Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge is a fantastic book for all ages!

Have you ever read the story, Wilfred Gordon McDonald Patridge? If you haven't read it, it's a cute little story about a little boy and an elderly woman. The story takes place in a town where a little boy and his parents live in one house and some elderly people live in the house next door. The little boy loves to go over to see these people and talk and laugh and to do different, specific things with each person. But there is one person the boy loves the most, a woman he calls Miss Nancy. He loves to talk with her and to share what they both have in common. But one day, the little boy's parents told him that Miss Nancy had lost her memory. The boy wasn't sure, so he decided to find out. Has Miss Nancy lost her memory? To find out for yourself, you'll have to read Wilfred Gordon McDonald Patridge.

I discovered this book when my roommate told me it was one of her favorite children's book. Both my roommate and I are currently pursuing our Master's Degree in Elementary Education and are always looking for great books for our future classrooms. She informed me that this book is one she had to have immediately after reading it! Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge is a young boy who lives next door to an "old people's home" and he describes each of the elderly people he has become friends with. His favorite is Nancy Alison Delacourt Cooper because she has four names just like he does. When Wilford overhears family members discussing the sadness of Miss Nancy losing her memory he sets out to find out what a memory is by asking all his elderly friends. He takes all the things he thinks are a memory and gives them to Miss Nancy. She begins to reminisce about the memories that the items remind her of and she is so happy that Wilford has given her back her memory. This book is incredibly sweet and will have you "awwwww"ing on each and every page. The illustrations are hilarious and depict abstract pictures of the elderly people and Wilford. As a 21 year old I found the book touching and think that children of any age will also be able to relate to it. It is a wonderful book to read to children who have grandparents or family members who have Alzheimer's and can make a little sense about the aspect of losing a memory. This book will most definitely be in my classroom no matter what grade I teach. I would recommend this book to anyone of any age!

This delightfully written story of young Wilfrid and all his friends at the old folks home brought tears to my eyes! This story illustrates how amazing children really are, and what great joy they can bring to older people who may or may not have a lot of friends/family left. We should all take notes from little Wilfrid!

A child's simplicity in understanding an issue that complicates the lives of so many. This is truly a treasure of a story that will appeal to both young and old. As the daughter of an aging parent with a growing memory problem, Mem Fox's story deeply moved me to buy a copy for each of my family members. What a wonderful gift and I am so thankful that a young co-worker shared this book with me. Anyone who has an aging parent or works with our elderly will benefit from this story.

This quickly became one of my favourite books. A truely touching story about the wonderful relationship that can develop between the very young and the very old. The illustrations are just beautiful. Julie Vivas captures a childseye view of grownups we have all known: humourous, realistic and alltogether lovely.

This is an outstanding story to introduce early elementary students to the aging process. Most of them know or will soon know someone suffering the effects of dementia. We are using it with our grandkids but also see interest from our children.

One day Wilfrid over heard his parents talking about Miss. Nancy. They said, ''The poor old thing has lost her memory.'' Since Wilfrid didnt know what a memory was, he asked everyone at the old folks home and each one said something different. Wilfrid went home and found lots of things that makes him remember special moments.
Wilfrid brought all these things to Miss. Nancy and something remarkable happened. Miss. Nancy's memory came back.
This is a truly heart warming book and is also for all ages. I enjoyed it a lot and I am sure you would too if you read it.
