SOMEONE LIKE YOU is the third installment in the Oxford Series by Lauren Layne but it can be read as a standalone. I have to say this series gets better with each installment and it is definitely shaping up to be my favorite of all of this author’s works. This one is by far, the best in this truly delectable and addictive series. I’ve been lucky in that lately my reads have all been five-star worthy and yet again I’m given a broken Hero who completely stole my heart. After the story ends the author explains how at first she had a different Heroine in mind and I do think if she had gone with her initial choice, this would have been a good book but her decision to go in a different direction with the female lead, ended up making this a PHENOMENAL read instead!!!
We begin with everyone gearing up for the wedding between Alex Cassidy and Emma Sinclair. Lincoln Mathis is the sex columnist at Oxford and he’s also the best man. Daisy Sinclair is Emma’s twin sister and has flown in from Charlotte, NC, to be the maid-of-honor. Lincoln is warned by Emma to keep his hands off her sister and Daisy is also warned to beware of the utterly gorgeous Lincoln and his playboy ways. But these two feel an instant connection between them. It’s as if they can see past each other’s facades as if they have a deep-rooted kinship. Both Daisy and Lincoln have become pros at hiding their sadness and pain from their close friends and family. The night of the wedding they skip out together and end up sharing one too many drinks and some really good conversation. Daisy quickly sees that Lincoln isn’t a player at all and that he’s skilled in the art of deflecting the advances of women. She finds it odd but can tell there’s some deep rooted pain he keeps buried and seeing as how she too has her secrets, Daisy never pushes Lincoln to share more than he’s ready to give.
Daisy and Lincoln form a fast and easy friendship and very early on he lets her in on his secret that he has kept from all of his close friends. This has got to be the first book out of both the Stiletto and Oxford series that had such depth and unbelievable heartbreak. I’m not going to give away either the Hero or Heroine’s secret but will admit that I could not stop the tears from flowing and Lincoln Mathis is my favorite of all of Lauren Layne’s heroes. My heart was completely tied up in that man.
I enjoyed having all of the characters from the Stiletto and Oxford series back again and there’s no need to worry if you haven’t read them yet as the author does summarize who everyone is and how they’re all connected.
This was a total pleasure for me to read and one of the things I loved was that the hero wasn’t the stereotypical “Playboy”. He loved his pink fruity cocktails and adored his tiny little Maltese pup named Kiwi. I was expecting Lincoln to be the typical sexy player who had an endless supply of women who kept his bed warm at night and it was completely refreshing when he turned out to be the antithesis of what his outward appearance displayed.
Those of you who can’t get enough of romances with a broken hero are going to want to dive into this one right away. But be warned, it's going to break your heart so be sure to have a box of Kleenex by your side.

The playboy image Lincoln Mathis reveals to the world is really a front to cover the sorrow he's felt ever since a tragedy in his past robbed him of someone he loved. But the moment he meets Daisy Sinclair, the twin sister of one of his friends and a woman he's been warned away from, he finds the guard he uses to protect himself from further pain slipping. And the more time he spends with Daisy, the more he finds himself falling. Can he fully let go of the past, so they can have a future together, or will he let the one person that completely understands him slip through his fingers?
What an amazing novel Ms. Layne has penned in this book, which has become my top read of 2016. Where from start to finish, this story was utterly captivating, highly emotional, fast-paced, and a book that once I finished knew right away that I'll want to re-read again and again. Because Daisy and Lincoln are wonderful characters that deserve a second chance at love, no matter how many obstacles they have to overcome to achieve it.
The dialogue was intense due to the main characters back stories, and there was no way I could have gotten through this book without crying, especially after a certain loss one of the main characters suffer. However, the dialogue wasn't all intense and the playful dialogue between the main characters certainly dried up the tears at the right times throughout this story. And in fact, their playful dialogue had me laughing at times, especially when it came to the nickname Lincoln gave Daisy and the fact that this could be considered a forbidden romance trope themed book because of the warning Lincoln receives about staying away from the heroine. However, in saying that, the advice the secondary characters give both the hero and heroine palpably reveal how good these two are for each other.
With the main characters, both Daisy and Lincoln are fantastic and characters that I could not get enough of. I've loved the hero in the previous books of this series, and have been waiting for his story to be released and it was everything I'd hoped for and more. Lincoln has hidden such pain from his closest friends and it's finally time they know what he's been going through, what he's still going through and hopefully help him move on, even if it means pushing him towards Daisy so they can help each other. Certainly, he has some major decisions to make; decisions that aren't easy. But at the same time, the ones that he makes help him to heal, which was what he needed.
While Daisy, she's strong, brave and I liked how determined she is -- if she finds the right man -- to move forward from her disaster of a marriage. Her husband was a real horrible jerk and it's no wonder she has trust issues and is wary of getting close to men. But at the same time, overcoming those demons makes her that much stronger. Is Lincoln a safe option? Is he ready to move on? The answers to those questions made this book a complete page turner, yet what I liked most about the heroine was how supportive she was towards Lincoln when it came to his tragedy. She's the one person he can talk to; the one person that may be able to understand his pain of not being able to let go and move on.
Overall, Ms. Layne has penned what I believe is her best novel to date; a novel where the sex scenes were hot and in their own way help Lincoln and Daisy to heal from the hurts of their pasts. Daisy hasn't been able to trust a man since her marriage ended, and Lincoln has had his own reasons for not getting close to a woman, so it makes their relationship all that more special. This story ended perfectly with Lincoln's way of getting Daisy back, because it was something that she'd love, no matter how embarrassing it would have been for him. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely, because it illustrates how lucky two people are to have been able to find love again. I would highly recommend Someone Like You by Lauren Layne, if you enjoy the forbidden romance trope, or a hero and heroine that desperately need each other to help them heal from the hurts of their pasts.

“You must be Lincoln Mathis, the Manwhore of Whom I Should Beware?”
…
“Which would make you Daisy Sinclair, Delicate Flower to Whom I’m Not to Speak.”
And it’s with those words that Daisy and Lincoln Mathis are introduced. Quite the introduction, huh? I loved that it laid everything out on the table. No pussyfooting around the issue that they’d both been duly warned about the other.
I’m going to be honest with you, I went into this expecting a different Lincoln. I remember him from his first appearance in the last Stiletto series book, The Trouble With Love, which was Emma (Daisy’s identical twin sister) and Alex’s story. Lincoln is purported to be single and the proverbial playboy. His panty-melting smile and good looks are legendary in the Stiletto and Oxford offices. His little black book is ironically massive. The notches on his bedpost are beyond numerous. Daisy isn’t joking around when she describes him as a Manwhore. At least that’s what everyone thinks he is.
I found out soon enough that Lincoln Mathis is all smoke and mirrors. Was I disappointed? Maybe just a tiny bit. I opened Someone Like You expecting and wanting a bad boy. I was in that kind of mood. Lucky for me I got someone much better and deeper. Lincoln is like an onion (one that smells really really good though) with so many layers it’s hard to pinpoint when I stopped being surprised at the man I found under each. Oh the angst. Oh the emotional turmoil and upheaval. Does our hero have a past—and present—which makes being in a relationship with anyone and impossibility.
Daisy comes into the story with her own baggage. Divorced from a horrible ex-husband, she comes to New York for Emma’s wedding, where she meets Lincoln and they just click. Not so much in a romantic sense, although the physical attraction is ever present between them. I would say they click on an emotional, friendly level. They enjoy the kind of relationship that survives when Daisy goes back to North Carolina after the wedding with daily text messages. They always find things to talk about. I absolutely loved the building of it. And of course the fighting of the sexual attraction—mostly by Lincoln. Then things really take a nice turn when they’re both in the same city and state, permanently. The tension, the heat and the conflict ratchets up to high. Deliciously so, I might add.
On top of a wonderfully, emotional, sexy love story between Lincoln and Daisy, I was happy to visit again with the entire Stiletto and Oxford crew. There’s nothing like deliriously, happy marriages and babies to make the romantic in me swoon and sigh. As a huge series lover, I love the easy, teasing camaraderie between groups of friends. Lauren Layne is a pro at making these friendships feel authentic. It makes me crave for a big group of friends just like them.
For me though, the cherry on top of this wonderful romance is that I read it twice, loving it even more the second time around. And the epilogue… Sigh. Need I say anymore? If there’s a cherry to go on top of that original cherry, it’s for that lovely peek into Daisy and Lincoln’s future and the overwhelming feeling of wanting more, more and still more of this wonderful series, these characters and their love stories.

True confession time: I stopped reading romance novels a few years back unless they were paranormal or suspense or comedic because it had begun to feel like I was reading the same novel over and over again. Since I started book blogging, I have picked up several. Some have been of that previous ilk, but some have just knocked the notion of a “typical” romance novel right off of its foundation. Someone Like You is one of the latter and has had me asking how it is that I have only now just discovered Lauren Layne?
Daisy Sinclair is in New York to celebrate her twin sister’s marriage and has been warned to stay away from the best man, Lincoln Mathis, because he’s a player. Lincoln has been warned to stay away from Daisy because, well, he’s a player, and there would be hell to pay if he hurt Daisy. But the instant that Daisy and Lincoln see each other, it’s not love at first sight. It’s something else, something far deeper. They see like souls and they have an immediate connection that goes far beyond immediate attraction.
There is something about the tone of Someone Like You that makes it feel a bit more like a chick lit novel with a focus on relationships of all kinds and deeper, I hesitate to say, values, because that just goes off into another territory. The introspection makes it feel far more mature. But, there is also a playfulness that rounds out the seriousness very well. The dialogue between Daisy and Lincoln is smart and funny.
Both the characters of Daisy and Lincoln move beyond the typical mainstays of romance novels. They seem like real people. There are several instances in which a situation would have incited an overreaction in the typical romance heroine, but Daisy handles it with empathy and maturity and aplomb. Likewise, Lincoln is vulnerable and perceptive and just really, really (can I add another “really” without going over the top?) appealing. He is so perceptive and in touch with himself and others. Ideal comes to mind.
Whitney, Daisy’s divorcee best friend, could have been a funny stereotype, but here again Layne created a character with depth. Whitney is the best friend we all dream of having. She is funny and sexy but knows when to tone it down, especially for her beloved friend.
There is just a tremendous amount to like about this novel and that is without having read the previous ones in the series.
So, I’m off to write a note to Santa to ask for some Lauren Layne novels for Christmas. Oh, Santa please! Especially if the men are like Lincoln! And, pffft, yes, I pretty much thought Daisy was cooler than all get out too.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Someone Like You, An Oxford Novel, Lauren Layne
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre: Romance,
I’ve read a couple of Lauren’s books, would love to read more but its that old conundrum, time and money – mostly the money side :-( I’d read one of the Oxford books, so the characters in this were familiar, and Oxford and Stiletto are series I’d definitely like to read more of...one day ;-)
The original characters from each book come up in all the books, along with new ones to the group. Each book is stand alone, but reading this way is like meeting a group of friends, and though I’d only read one of the books, they were “real” people, ones I could understand, like, want to be with.
Lincoln has the playboy rep but he’s hiding a huge secret, something really heart-breaking, and even his closest friends don’t know that his outward appearance is all a false front.
Then Daisy comes into his life, at her twin sisters wedding. He’s worked with her twin for some time, is a good friend to her and her new husband, but hasn’t met Daisy. He gets warned off her, her sister sees Daisy as Fragile, Damaged, in need of protection as she’s been through a bad divorce. Daisy has her own secrets though, and when she meets Lincoln she recognises his front, that his public persona is fake, because she’s doing exactly the same.
Its a shock to the others but Daisy and Lincoln become friends, though Daisy lives in a different state and its a text only friendship. They get along so well, make each other laugh and Daisy is the only person to know Lincoln’s secret. Somehow in the couple of days of the wedding they fast forwarded friendship to where he trusts her, and lets her know about his past and why he’s not as everyone thinks he is.
Then the guilt falls in, and Lincoln tails off the texts, poor Daisy is upset but understands. She really is a gem, a real Southern Lady, so kind, so always wanting the best for others, and though she’s feeling more than she ever expected for Lincoln she respects his decision and doesn’t text him. He never actually says anything, just lets time and distance do it. He’s got a kind of war going on internally about his feelings, so though its a cowardly way I do understand his actions.
Something big happens in his life that changes it, the secret comes out and its a time of rebuilding his life. His mind though and conscience are still troubled, he thinks he's ok but really he's not.
By chance he sees at first hand exactly what Daisy is hiding, and it makes him angry, makes him look at how he feels about it – and her....
I loved them both, such a lovely couple, get on so well, but with those secrets hidden in their pasts they have a couple of huge barriers to overcome.
I really felt for Daisy, she’s such a lovely lady and to have that happen....well, sadly its not uncommon, and I understood how her confidence had plummeted.
Lincoln, when we first meet him he’s almost a stereotypical gay, at least a very Metrosexual man, well dressed, chats easily with the ladies, happy to wear pink, loves frou-frou sweet drinks, had a tiny fluff-ball Maltese terrier who he loves....but he’s not, far from it, and he’s carefully cultivated that image as a kind of protective front it seems to me.
When we learned what he was hiding I was gutted for him, really didn’t know if or how he could get past that. Its a terrible thing to have that in your life, and an unusual storyline that was really heart wrenching.
When they were on-off-on with the contact, the texts, well before they got into a physical relationship I could see problems ahead, and then as the story moved on you just knew it was all going to blow up and in a big way.
Poor Daisy, I was so upset for her, she really didn’t deserve that and yet I understood Lincoln’s feelings.
Its one of those situations where Life happens, no-one is at fault, and even though they seem a couple perfect for each other you wonder if they can ever actually get there...I love that kind of drama, love some angst and heartbreak, as when it all gels and comes right it feels so much more sweeter.
Its a perfect read, a little shorter than I’d like, but still pack a huge punch and is one I’d be happy to reread.
Stars: Five, one to keep, to savour rereading and one day to read the rest of the series...

For those of us who have been consuming Lauren Layne's first series Sex, Love & Stiletto from the start and then rabidly following the spinoff Oxford Novels, then you know where I am heading with these thoughts. For this 3rd book in the Oxford Series has been a long time coming...A Long time desired...and the object of this fascination is the one and only breakout star from the beginning.... LINCOLN MATHIS!
Lincoln Mathis captured our imagination from the moment he was mentioned in the first books. He was that type of guy who was charming, mischievous, playful and down right sex on a stick. We only had an itsy bit of a tease of him but it was just enough to pique our interest...With the encouragement from a close friend, Ms. Layne saw what needed to be done...and after all this begging and pleading, we have his entire story.
Lincoln has worked hard to front his reputation...he is the man about town and all women see him as the ultimate goal... to be on his arm is an achievement. That he has the ability to have all women who come in contact with him remain friendly "after".... shows his grace. His friends at Oxford and Stiletto are always teasing him about who he should hit on next...and Lincoln just smiles, laughs and plays along. He enjoys ribbing the guys about how they are dropping like flies... all finding their special someone...and it is at the wedding of another co-worker where he finally meets his "Like".
Daisy Sinclair is the twin of Emma. Emma from Stiletto has loved her twin all her life...but for Emma, the draw of the big city was so strong, she left their southern home as soon as she could for New York City. The rest is history. Which meant, Daisy continued to be close with her sister...but from afar...and her sister's life was fast paced and all about her career...so they remained close...but not like when they were kids.... sharing every little thing.
Daisy didn't share her doubts about her marriage...Daisy didn't let her family know the real reasons for the divorce. She let them all think the reason was his cheating on her and knocking up the woman happily, even her best friend. It was better that way...Easier.
Now both of these people have been warned...Lincoln was read the riot act to leave Daisy alone... to stay clear and not unleash his panty dropping charm. Daisy was not to be another castaway...She was also told by Emma...to watch out and have her radar on...to combat any interest in Lincoln...She was told clearly... He is not for you.
The stage was set...and the wedding rehearsal dinner/get together is happening and there as Lincoln is talking with another, Daisy enters the room. As casually as he can, he sees this vision...and realizes who it is... She looks similar to her twin... but then nothing like her at all....and when Daisy comes up to Lincoln...both get a glimpse of something no one ever notices...
That stark moment when the vulnerable, the authentic is laid bare...just before the friendly, approachable mask is put in place...sealing off all the pain and secrets hiding within.
Both Daisy and Lincoln have shared a true moment...As they talk about how they have been warned away from each other, little nuggets of awareness are exchanged...done with a life of their own...and both know each is just like the other...
Like Recognizing Like...
This book is like no other Layne in her past series...There is the same fun and banter, the same interest and sharing of the past characters...But with this entry...there is a deeper feel of what the goals are for its outcome. The life lessons are equally important from all the others books we have experienced in the past...yet these lessons may be harder to accomplish in real life like they are in this book. We may not agree with the path all of these characters take...but in reality, would they be any easier...
I want to share the playfulness, fun and banter these two experience. Everything is not all dark ... and sexy times are always a strong point with Layne. The chemistry with Lincoln and Daisy is terrific. We want everything to work... to be easy for them... and in the end...we want them to know joy...together.
I think this book did Lincoln justice. This man is not perfect... This man is someone we all could love, want to be with through all of his moments...Daisy is a strong, special woman and it is fitting she is able to deal with all of the sides of Lincoln...to still be able to hold on to who she has become, too.
The good news is Layne somehow was able to weave new characters into this tight knit group....
Yes, People...There is another Oxford Novel Coming!!! I can share these next two characters will cause all sorts of sparks to fly because both are a bit head strong and not ones to give in easily.

Lincoln! I dropped everything yesterday as soon as Lincoln landed on my kindle (as much as you can drop everything while also getting through the workday, having dinner and watching The Voice). I have been waiting for Lincoln's story since Cole and Penelope's story and he certainly doesn't disappoint. Through the Oxford series, your perspective of Lincoln starts to change, he starts off as the fun/sexy side character and soon he's taking over all your thoughts, in I Wish You Were Mine, you get to see a little more of Lincoln and you start to wonder what led him to where he currently is. But, I certainly never saw it coming. By the time you get to Someone Like You, you're already there with Lincoln, you already feel a part of the Oxford/Stiletto crew. My heart broke as you got deeper and deeper into Lincoln's story. He is beautiful and heartbreaking in the most perfect way.
I loved Daisy from the first chapter. She's the perfect balance to Lincoln. She sees right through him and allows him to put down some of those carefully constructed walls. In the meantime, she finds herself doing the same with him. She's been hurt before and leads her life guarded but she lets Lincoln in and they begin healing together. She is at a different part in her healing process and while she wants to open up to Lincoln she also sees that he's still not ready. They do this dance around each other for so much of the book that by the time they first really get together you're just screaming with joy.
I knew that Lincoln's heroine had to be strong and independent and Daisy was all that and more. She was brave and she was kind and she was smart and she was exactly what Lincoln needed.
Someone Like You can absolutely be read as a standalone, but I always tell people that they should get to know the rest of the Oxford crew as well. I haven't read any of the Stiletto books and kick myself every time I read another Oxford story. I've been waiting for Lincoln for what seems like forever and he more than 100% delivers.

The long awaited story of Lincoln Mathis, the flirtatious virtuoso is deliciously steamy and heartfelt.
Lincoln Mathis has an enormous secret he hides behind a womanizing façade he actively encourages backed by his dating and sex advice column at Oxford. Everyone thinks he’s the ultimate playboy, except the one woman he barely knows and has seen beyond the sexy exterior. Revealing his heartbreaking past to the feisty Daisy Sinclair felt as natural as breathing because he knows no matter how attracted he is to her, he can never allow himself to have her.
Daisy knows to stay away from men who project trouble with a capital “T.” After her demoralizing divorce, she really doesn’t want anything to do with men, much less a gorgeous one with a quick smile and a flirty quip at the ready. After he reveals his secret though, Daisy realizes they’re both kindred spirits. As their lived start to twist around each other’s, Daisy begins to fall for the beautiful, damaged man. But can she convince him they’re good for one another?
I loved the charming and enigmatic Lincoln Mathis ever since Lauren Lane introduced him, and I had been waiting for his story ever since. I wasn’t sure what he was hiding underneath that enchanting veneer, but I was sure this book would be different from all the rest. Lauren Layne delivered a story that made me smile, laugh, tear up as well as fan myself with both heartbreaking and heartwarming potency.
Lincoln and Daisy are interesting and appealing characters. They have an incredible back and forthright off the bat. They’re well layered and perfect for each other. Besides having a strong attraction (those sexy times are HOT!), they complement and understand one another. Their bond slowly builds and strengthens as they become good friends who share secrets and support one another. Although they’re road to happiness is not without its troubles they do find it in a delightful epilogue that left me smiling like a Cheshire cat.
Lauren Layne creates a marvelous romance full of passion and drama I couldn’t put down. I’ve enjoyed every single book in this series and the original Sex, Love and Stiletto and I fully appreciated having the entire gang back that certainly felt like a “plus-sized Friends episode.” It was great to see their expanding families while they all help Lincoln and Daisy out.
Oh and hey! I almost forget, I got a real kick out of Lauren Layne’s shout out to the three romance novelists, two of whom I’ve read and loved. See if you can stop them and know who they are!
Someone Like You is book 3 in Oxford Series by Lauren Layne that can be read as a standalone. It’s written from both points of view and interconnecting characters from past books. I recommend it for readers that like touching and sexy romances with a sweet happy ending.

** I received an advanced readers copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!**
Someone Like You is the third book in the Oxford series but can be read as a stand alone. Each book is about a different employee of Oxford Magazine. Even though each book can stand alone, I highly recommend reading them all for the simple fact that the series is great! This instalment told the story of Lincoln Mathis.
Lincoln Mathis...sigh. What can I say? I was anxiously to hear his story. I wanted to know his secrets. He probably intrigued me more than any other Oxford character. Let me just tell you that I was not disappointed. His story exceeded my expectations and blew me away.
I have come to expect and love the great sarcasm, banter and humour that is signature Lauren Layne so I wasn't surprised that there was plenty to be found. What I didn't expect was the emotions that took over as I was reading. Don't get me wrong, she has definitely written plenty of novels that have torn at my heart strings but this one really got me. I mean really, really got me. I think it was a combination of her fantastic story telling and the character that it was about. Don't forget, I've been following these characters for some time and Lincoln was one of my favourites.
The less you know going into this story the better in my opinion. For that reason I won't re-tell the plot or give any spoilers. If you have followed this series up till now you know that Lincoln was obviously hiding something. I expected a past and some deep, buried secrets but I never imagined they would be what they turned out to be. All I can say is WOW! Then Daisy's story was added to the mix and I was a goner. I was flying through the pages and ignoring everything else (sorry kids) until I reach the end.
It's no secret that Lauren Layne is one of my favourite authors in the contemporary romance genre and this book solidifies that fact. She has a way of writing that brings the characters off the page and makes them seem so real. Her signature banter has kept me smiling through many a day because I have read almost all of her books. For readers that have been following this series, Lincoln's story was definitely worth the wait. For new readers of this series...get ready to add to your tbr pile because you'll be hooked and wanting more.

Someone Like You was one of my most anticipated reads of 2016. Since Lincoln first appeared in the Oxford series — or was it Stiletto? Honestly I've been half in love with him so long I can't even remember when we were first introduced — I've wanted his story. I always suspected there was way more to him than this carefully crafted, much talked about playboy image he puts out there. I wasn't wrong. I know there's no way my little review can do any amount of justice to this book, but I'm gonna try anyhow.
I'm not going to dig too deep into the storyline in my review, so if you've come looking for spoilers, you can move on along. ;) Some books are just better when you experience them for yourself, going in blind. This is absolutely one of those. What I will do, however, is tell you that I loved both of the characters. I mean, I was already half in love with him before I even opened this book. It didn't take long at all before I was head over heels for this man. Daisy was incredible in her own right. She was far from the delicate flower she was made out to be initially. She was strong, if a little broken, and I fell head over heels for her, too. Daisy and Lincoln together were really something special. I can't think of two people more perfectly suited to each other. I was shipping them long before they were more than just friends.
Someone Like You was a really emotional book for me. I think it's partially because I was already so connected to Lincoln before going into it. It was a special book for a whole lot of reasons I can't get into because I don't want to spoil anything for you. I shed more than a couple tears over this one, but they weren't all sad tears. There were plenty of smiles along the way. There's something beautiful about two broken people finding a way to put themselves back together with a little help from someone special.
I'm not even gonna lie. I had ridiculously high expectations for this book. And Lauren exceeded them by, like, double. Someone Like You was the total romance package. Not only did I blow through it without sitting it down, I laughed and cried, swooned over the romance and felt every feel along the way. Absolutely brilliant. There were also quite a few cameos from characters from the Stiletto and Oxford series, which is just one more reason why fans of the series will LOVE this one. If you're not yet a fan, you should bump the Oxford (and Stiletto!) series to the top of your list. You'll thank me later.

Someone Like You continues Lauren Layne's Oxford series and we readers finally get the scoop on eligible bachelor / playboy Lincoln Mathis. See, it's been apparent to this reader that there's more to Lincoln's story than meets the eye for quite sometime now, and I've been eagerly awaiting the day when we would finally get the full picture.
Turns out, without being too spoilery, things in Lincoln's past have left him damaged. These are things he's kept close to his heart, not even revealing them to his closest friends. Then, surprisingly Lincoln finds a somewhat confidant in Emma's twin sister Daisy (for those unfamiliar, Emma is a character from the spin-off / crossover Stiletto Series).
Turns out Daisy is just as damaged as Lincoln, albeit for different circumstances. Their easy way with each other eases them into the process of healing. Yet their blatant attraction to each other reminds both of them that the healing process takes time.
I can honestly say, with the anticipation I felt for Lincoln's story, I was 100% satisfied with how everything played out. I think Lauren Layne's pacing was spot on. Since readers are just learning about Lincoln's past, it was essential that nothing felt too rushed because we, like Lincoln, were still coming to terms with moving on, moving past everything. But the story has some great build up as Lincoln and Daisy dance around each other for months. Will they / won't they?
I also loved the connection between Daisy and Lincoln, not just the sexual chemistry, but the acknowledgement that they are both people who, essentially, need to heal. They recognize something in each other that makes them open up in ways that they can't to those closest to them.
But that's not to say that Someone Like You doesn't show the love and support that Daisy and Lincoln have from their friends and family, because it certainly does. I thought the family dynamic was great between the men of Oxford and the women of Stiletto and their significant others. I think the family unit that all these people / couples have forms is more prevalent here than in any of the past books which could signify an end to the series, and Someone Like You does kind of read like a final send off...until we're introduced to two new characters who with just a few lines of dialogue between them made me want their story now!
So while we have more to look forward to in the offices of Oxford, I'm happy that Lincoln's story got the wrap up it so justly deserved.

Yay...Lincoln's story! This is the third book in the Oxford series and my favorite so far. This book cold easily be read as a stand alone although you will not know the history of some of the characters. Lincoln's character shines from the moment he first shows up on the page. As soon as he had a role in this series, I knew that I needed to read his story. It turns out that his story was worth the wait.
I had a feeling that Lincoln was a lot more than what we have seen in the previous books and I was right. He is a gorgeous playboy who can have any woman that he wants. Women literally throw themselves at this man but I had to know what made him tick. Let me just say that I was shocked by what is learned about Lincoln's past in this book. I liked his character before I started this book but I like him even more now that I have finished.
Daisy has her own story and everyone seems to be walking on eggshells around her. She has been through a divorce but it seemed that there was more to the story. Daisy's story wasn't as shocking as Lincoln's but it did explain a lot. I liked Daisy a lot. She worked hard to put her life back together and had an inner strength that was impressive. I liked how easily she was able to really see Lincoln for who he is.
I loved Lincoln and Daisy as a couple. These two were just so perfect together. From the very beginning of the book, they were just a lot of fun. They connected almost immediately and really were a perfect match for each other. They had wonderful chemistry and I liked how they seemed to feel comfortable with each other immediately. The build up of the romance was intense and I was completely invested by the time they actually acted on it.
I would highly recommend this book to fans of contemporary romance. Lincoln is such a great character and I loved his story. I also really enjoyed the fact that the obstacle that this couple had to overcome is a little different than I usually see and was completely unexpected. I am looking forward to reading more for this talented author very soon.
I received an advance reader edition of this book from Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept via NetGalley.
Lauren Layne has written another outstanding and engaging novel with Someone Like You, the third book from her Oxford series. It is a meaningful read, replete with an emotional plot, well-defined characters, and a scorching hot couple. This novel and series are a spin-off from Ms. Layne's highly successful Sex, Love & Stiletto quadrilogy, and each book can be totally enjoyed as a standalone.
The gentlemen that work at Oxford, the hippest men's magazine in the country, are smart, gorgeous and sexy. This anxiously awaited book focuses on Lincoln Mathis, the dating and sex guru. Lincoln is beyond handsome and lives the life of a womanizer. His painful past has created the man he is today. However, when he meets Daisy Sinclair, the maid of honor and identical twin of his best friend's new wife, his world will never be the same.
Daisy truly loved everything about being married, until her husband crossed the line in more ways than one. Now she is single and wealthy, carving out a new future for herself. Spending time with Lincoln is like a breath of fresh air, because their many similarities compliment each other. They share an instant attraction that reaches far beyond lust. They immediately understand each other, and very quickly become each other's confidants. Overtime, they reveal their secrets, which ultimately makes them stronger as individuals and as a couple.
Ms. Layne is one of my favorite authors and I never pass up an opportunity to read anything she writes. This is an well-written book, and Lincoln and Daisy are interesting, complex and genuine. Their sex scenes are hot and full of desire. Ms. Layne beautifully combines excitement, heat, and drama into this romantic read, and there was never a moment that I did not want Lincoln and Daisy to be together. I felt their emotional upheavals from deep inside my heart. Lastly, the joyous epilogue will leave you smiling from ear to ear. This is an amazing book that should not me missed.

I took my time with this – reread the Sex, Love and Stiletto series and then the first two of Oxford JUST to make sure I was primed and ready for Lincoln’s story.
Oh Lincoln – enjoyed you from the first flippant comment, your habit of holding everyone at arm’s length just because you are working really hard to prove to everyone who you are. Guess what – you don’t have to anymore…. We know your secrets and if it is possible, love you even more for them and your attempts to cover them up.
Fortunately for you Daisy couldn’t bear to be away from Emma much longer, and after her divorce she ran off and headed to New York. It just so happened to be coming up to the wedding, and you’ve been warned off her repeatedly-but still – she catches your eye every time. But you have told yourself she is hands-off, and you are determined that you will, this time, follow through.
Daisy can see right through Lincoln’s façade, and many (her sister Emma included) think she’s deluding herself. But when he shared his story with her, and let her in just a little, she KNEW he was the man for her. Now it’s just a matter of convincing him of that fact.
Lauren Layne has made us wait for this one – perhaps because achieving that balance of emotion as she rips your heart from your chest only to wrap it up with a bow and give us moments so sweet and heartfelt that you can’t put away the tissues fast enough. A roller-coaster ride of emotions, readers will need to come with tissues (boxes), a cold drink and some sparkling confetti to throw about at the end. There couldn’t have been a better match for Lincoln, and his story is perfectly suited to him. You don’t have to read the other books in the Oxford Series or even in the Sex, Love and Stiletto series – but this will be a better experience for having done so.
I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Since the first book in the Oxford Series, I have been drawn to Lincoln Mathis. He has been an enigma. The ladies man with a heart of gold, just a little too polished and a little too perfect. Lincoln seemed to romance half of Manhattan, but that character never quite meshed with the wonderful person who created deep and meaningful relationships with his charming group of friends.
Enter Daisy Sinclair (twin sister of Emma and new sister-in-law of Cassidy, Lincoln's boss.) Lincoln and Daisy meet serving as Best Man and Maid of Honor at the wedding and their connection is instant but not romantic. As the backstories of both characters are revealed, your heart will break for them. But, the way they heal themselves and each other is what makes this book a wonderful read. The first moment they ALMOST give into their attraction is one of the hottest no-sex-sexy-scenes I've read. But, don't worry, there's plenty of steam!
There is angst and tears, but also hope and sweetness and romance and love. It is all wrapped up in this wonderful group of "friends as family." Lincoln and Daisy are one of my most favorite couples in the series. I'm not ready to say goodbye, so I'm glad that Lauren Layne has announced one more book in the Oxford Series. I have read all of them and highly recommend them (as I do everything by Lauren Layne) BUT you don't need to read the other books in the series to thoroughly enjoy Lincoln and Daisy's love story.
Someone Like You is a solid, sweet, romance with terrific characters and all the feels. You definitely want to add this book (the whole series really) to your TBR today! Lincoln and Daisy's story was worth the wait!

5 Heartfelt stars
After having read the Sex, Love & Stiletto series and the Oxford series I was so excited to get my hands on Lincoln's book in Someone like You.
He was the sexy, sweet, quick witted and romantic guy we'd fallen in love with and couldn't wait to meet the girl who would win his heart.
And now after having read Someone like You, I can honestly say it was everything I was hoping for and more.
I loved Lincoln and Daisy, they were likable, endearing characters that captured my heart and took me on an emotional journey with their love story.
Both Lincoln and Daisy have been putting on a happy and carefree face to their loved ones but underneath they're emotionally shut off and struggling with their pain.
From the first meeting Lincoln and Daisy find themselves being drawn to each other, they find comfort, understanding and peace. The more time they'd spend together the more their walls would come down and the deeper their friendship grew.
I loved them together, I loved how they would make each other feel and how easily they could talk to each other.
Watching them move from friends to more was both heartwarming and heartbreaking. My heart went out to them, especially Lincoln.
It's hard to write this review without giving any spoilers away, what I can share is that Lincoln and Daisy made me laugh, they made me swoon, they made me cry and they made me swoon some more.
Aside from Lincoln and Daisy, there was so much I loved about Someone like You.
I loved revisiting all the characters from the previous books. Loved the banter that went down between the friends, and I loved how much they cared and supported each other.
They would do anything for one another, this was a special friendship that would last a lifetime.
In closing, Someone like You is a beautifully written, heartfelt and emotional storyline that will pull at your heartstrings and I highly recommend it.
Thank you Lauren Layne for writing Lincoln's story and for sharing him with us <3

Someone Like You is the third novel in bestselling author Lauren Layne's Oxford series, which is a spin-off of her much loved Stiletto series (which I seriously need to add to my reading schedule since I've come across the couples from that series thrice already). Lincoln Mathis has a reputation for being a ladies's man, and it's reputation he's done nothing to dissuade people from believing. When he meets Daisy Sinclair at the rehearsal dinner for his best friend and her twin sister's wedding, he can't help but feel as if she sees beyond his facade. A friendship is born and it's fostered until Lincoln feels the need to distance himself, experiencing things that he believes he shouldn't. It's a friendship that's rekindled until too many feelings come in conflict with one another. When Lincoln and Daisy see each other again, they will be tested once again, and this time, he will have to decide if he's ready to keep her.
Lincoln and Daisy's story is told in three parts, each one with its share of ups and downs, and because I was so damned invested in these two from the get-go, I felt every single one of those ups and downs alongside them. Remember those tissues I mentioned? Well, all the weeping I did while reading this book made my already existent cold worse. Was it worth it? Yes, it was. This is, hands down, Lauren Layne at her finest. The humor that you expect to find in this series is still there, although more muted here in book number three compared to its two predecessors. Yet, Layne strikes this tenuous balance between tugging at your heartstrings and tickling your funny bone. Whatever thought and emotion I had while reading Someone Like You was a reaction to what I was reading, neither one forced or induced for effect. Five-plus stars...multiplied twenty times over. It's that freaking awesome. ♥

Lincoln Mathis is a man with some serious game, one simple look and he has the ladies quivering, every move he makes is under their watchful eye, each one dying for the chance to score the prestigious place on his arm. But for Lincoln that is all that it is, a little game of sorts, he has no intention of ever letting any of them that close, or anywhere near his heart, that is kept under lock and key. But the moment he meets the alluring Daisy Sinclair he is instantly enamored with her, she is by all accounts as good at the game as he is...and it's downright astounding!
Daisy Sinclair has been forewarned about Lincoln Mathis, and his ever-growing reputation for being the ultimate playboy, so she decided early on that she wouldn't be like the rest and fall for his game... but the minute he strides into her life she begins to realize she might be in over head! Nothing could have prepared her the gorgeous Mr. Mathis, he is smooth, charming, and his sex appeal is blinding, so much so, she feels her good sense slipping away, and her resistance to his charms start to falter. But then he surprises her, and makes her an offer she can't refuse... a no strings attached friendship, and that's something she really needs right now. But can she really only be friends with a man as tempting as Lincoln?
The second I laid eyes on the cover for this one I was in, SOOOO IN, the intensity in his gaze had me wanting to dive right in and learn every little detail about this sexy specimen! The instant Lincoln appeared on the page I was instantly smitten with him, and continued to fall hard for him with each page I read... you just meet characters quite like him too often. He was every bit the smooth talking alpha he was rumored to be, but underneath his playboy facade was a man with a gentle caring spirit, and a heart of gold. From the beginning it was evident that these two were a match made in literary heaven, watching the two wounded souls heal from their past losses, and discover their happily ever after was truly a beautiful thing to witness. This was by far one of the best takes on the friends to lovers trope that I have ever read, and these two uniquely crafted characters sure to linger with me for a long while, definitely one of my favorites from this author!! I highly recommend this one, it's sure to stir your emotions, warm your heart, and renew your faith in happily ever afters!!

From the second Lincoln walked into my life I knew I needed to know more about him. There was just something about him. I was beginning to wonder if I was ever going to learn about the real Lincoln.
Each book he was in I really thought I learn more about him, till I read the next book and thought to myself that I didn't know him at all. Then it happened, Layne wrote his story and I couldn't wait to read. I picked it up and just sat there and looked at it, days passed and I just couldn't read it.
I was just so worried that I wouldn't like the real Lincoln. Since he was the hero of the story I knew that I wouldn't hate him, but what if I didn't like him either.
Finally I had no choice what with this review coming up and finally started the book. At first I got into it right away, I really liked Daisy and thought she was pretty much perfect for him. The two of them add so much to the other. They balanced each other out.
As the book went on it moved very quick and I just feel in love with Lincoln even more after learn about his past. But after awhile he let his past totally interfer with his furture and I was getting a little tired of it.
Soon he got his act together and there was nothing but happiness to follow. It wasn't until I was finished with the book that it hit me...my love affair with Lincoln was over. I just can't be a cheater. I know in time another character will call to me like Lincoln did. It might be a character written by Layne or someone else.

Two wounded souls, past memories and heartache keep holding them hostage ... until their eyes meet across a room and a true connection is made. They just simply GET each other ... they talk, they laugh, they share secrets ... and along the way they start to fall for each other ... but can the past let them go enough to be happy again? This was such a good read! It was sad and meaningful, and also fun and flirty. I can't tell you how many times I laughed out loud at their sassy antics. Love this group of characters!
Lincoln Mathis has the rep of a major ladies man, and he likes it. He needs the buffer to protect himself from a past he doesn't want to share with even his closest friends, but when Daisy Sinclair steps into his life, he sees a kindred spirit who can see through his walls because she has her own set built around her heart as well.
Daisy went through a heartbreaking divorce that left scars on her heart that no one even knows about. She's hidden herself away from life for so long that she doesn't know if she has it in her to get out there again. When she becomes friends with Lincoln, she can be comfortable with someone for the first time in a long time. He just gets her.
As they each work towards healing themselves, they lean on each other and slowly start to like the support they have and want more ... but can they let their walls down once and for all to achieve it?

Nobody's quite figured out how he manages, but despite his having a black book bigger than the Bible, there doesn't seem to be even a trace of bitterness among his ex-flings.
I happen to like our story... Especially now that it's taken a turn for the naked.
'No,' Jackson said, as he dropped his own sandwich back on his plate in disgust. 'Just no. There are rules for these sort of things, Riley. No talking about your lady time while people are eating.'
My Review:
The storyline for Someone Like You was ingenious and well-constructed. Written from a third person POV, this friends to lovers story squeezed my heart. Both of the main characters were appealing, alluring, endearing, and damaged. The walking wounded aspect was something they instantly recognized in each other and resulted in an immediate sense of kinship or camaraderie for a fellow traveler. Throughout most of the narrative, I felt a constant yet low thrumming undercurrent of grief and regret, which co-existed with the characters mutual attraction and ease with each other. While this observation sounds contradictory, it worked - Lauren Layne has mad skills. Although I am no a fan of angst, I found it difficult to put my kindle down and finished the book in a day. Then again, I always enjoy a chance to become reacquainted with the Oxford/Stiletto staffers.

We’ve all been waiting to see Lincoln and understand who this guy is, and LL does such an amazing job giving us his story in SOMEONE LIKE YOU. It was unexpected, deeply emotional, empowering, and the right amount of sexy. LL created an emotionally compelling story by showing us what’s behind the wizards’ curtains and it’ll be nothing like you could guess; in the best possible way.
I can’t honestly say much in fear of giving something away so forgive me if it feels like I’m running in circles. The dynamic between Daisy and Lincoln was intricately built. LL planted a little seed and nurtured it and watered it throughout the novel, and then it bloomed into the most intensely beautiful bloom of a romance. It was delicate and sensitive while holding an immensely strong underlying friendship. The two of them built something on top of nothing and it flourished. And my emotions were tugged back and forth with them as they navigated a painful and mine-filled playing field.
SOMEONE LIKE YOU pays off. Lincoln’s story fits him so perfectly, and LL penned it sensitively while also maintaining her witty charm and fun characterization. It was wonderfully fun and romantic (and sexy, too, of course). The Oxford and Stiletto crew are always welcoming and I love every story of theirs. I greatly look forward to more of them as we continue. I know readers will absolutely fall in love with this book.

In all Someone Like You was an emotional roller coaster, girl gabfest to the utmost degree, lovable and laughing good time. I enjoyed myself from the front page to the last page, except I didn't want it to end. Lincoln Mathis was a delight! This man has been driving me MAD since he entered the scene and he stills rocked my world with this amazing new story. Our popular, charming playboy surprised me though. He had perfected the flirty, casual dating--no harm, no drama to an art form. But under all that is more hurting and fear than I ever imagined. Keeping all this a secret is much too difficult from Southern belle Daisy Sinclair, Emma's twin sister. Lincoln and Daisy meet at Emma and Cassidy's wedding and their passion for each other grows stronger than these two ever anticipated. But they come to find out you can't fight fate.
SLY is LL's new baby and I just about guarantee anything she writes is great, but this story in particular is special. These two bruised souls, Lincoln and Daisy, were crafted and molded by their horrible circumstances, and from that they met and fell in love. That's a good love story to tell the kids!
I would recommend this book to everyone who loves a big love proclamation at the end, because theirs is one for the ages. Very Say Anything! :)

"Someone Like You" by Lauren Layne. Wow! Ms. Layne grabbed me heart and soul and didn't let go. This one packs an emotional punch, that's for sure. And I LOVED IT! Lincoln - oh how my heart hurt for him. He tries to be so brave and put up a good front but wow, he is so vulnerable and lost that I really wished I could have reached through the pages and gave him a big hug. Daisy, she is perfect. Well, not really of course. She too has some really bad past hurts and my heart ached for her as well. Ms. Layne really tugs at the heartstrings in this one. Will they be able to overcome their pain to see the brightness and love that awaits? I couldn't put this one down as I needed to know what would happen to these two damaged but beautiful souls. This book did NOT disappoint!! Lincoln!! OMG Lincoln!! what a story!!
5 darn near perfection stars
Lauren Layne is my number one author. She is my go to girl when I need to read a good book. You know, when you are in a rut and want a GOOD book??? Lauren is it for me. She is my spirit animal. My soulmate. My fav. She is it for me.
Someone Like You had me giddy and wiggling all around when I read it. When I was reading the book, Adele was playing in my head. I was signing her version of "Someone Like You" and thinking, this book is as good as the song!
I feel in love with Lincoln the second the book started. Swoon!! He is my everything wrapped in one. He is sensitive and sweet and handsome and sarcastic all rolled into one !
Then there is Daisy. I can't not think of one bad thing to say. She was awesome in her own rite. When you put them together, you have something special. Alone, they are good, together they are better. See, each of them has their own past (but don't we all) and when they become friends, they complete each other. Friends turned lovers is one of my favorite type of reads. So this one was a win for me!!
I love everything about this book. 5 amazing starts from me!!

Someone Like You is the third installment of the Oxford series by Lauren Layne.
Daisy is now divorced while being a bridesmaid at her sisters wedding. Everyone seems to be telling her to stay away from Lincoln Mathis, the ultimate playboy. Even though they mean well, she knows that man is anything, but trouble. She can already see the trails of broken hearts he’s left behind. However, when Daisy stumbles upon Lincoln’s secret she can’t help, but want to know more.
Lincoln Mathis knows that the feisty bridesmaid is off-limits, but that doesn’t mean his eyes can’t follow what his hands can’t touch. But when his secret is exposed to Daisy, all bets are off. Will anyone survive after all’s revealed?
Daisy and Lincoln were characters that I certainly enjoyed reading. The fact that Lincoln hid behind his “player” facade even when it was clear that he was hiding a painful part of himself. But, as he opened up Daisy, she’s able to give Lincoln the light he deserves instead of being in the shadow of his past. There were moments that I found myself skimming, but overall, I enjoyed the story.

SOMEONE LIKE YOU is probably my favourite (so far, one more to go!) of the Oxford series. It wasn't perfect (I'm so over these "breaking up because [reasons]" excuses and unfortunately Layne has something of a standard formula for them..) but it was emotional, strong, heartfelt, heartbreaking, funny, sexy.. all with the classic Layne spin on the elements.. and full of all the familiar faces of our beloved couples (seriously, it's a lot now).
Lincoln's story has been a long time coming and it was definitely worth the wait. I kinda cringed over some of the earlier reveals because it felt too similar to Riley's plot twist in the Sex, Love & Stiletto series but it became so different over the course of the book that I didn't see any similarities after a while. Though I will say how hilarious it is that both these characters, with their respective jobs and personalities, were so much more than what they showed to the rest of the world. But in Lincoln's case, unlike Riley's, his reasoning was so so tragic.
Daisy, too, had a story worth rooting for. We saw a little bit of her in Emma and Cassidy's story back in the original series and I liked her growth, her comeback, and how Layne made it a thing without making it a thing. I know that might not make sense but trust me, it does.
What surprised me about this match-up was the strong friendship these two characters had. The common ground they found with their secrets, their demons, and how that evolved so naturally. Not at the same time, of course, because what fun would that be. Angst was needed. But I still enjoyed it so very much.. until I didn't totally. Sigh. I mean, it wasn't dragged out, but I would seriously love to see a different progression of events in book four. Maybe it makes for a less "exciting" read but damn, I'm just so over the break-up portion of the romancelandia relationship evolution.. especially when everyone, even the characters, either see it coming or predict it themselves. I'm so over it.
If you're on the fence about starting this spinoff series, I would say you could skip the first two and dive right into this one, especially if you're as desperate for Lincoln's story as the rest of us have been ever since he was introduced. Because, complaint aside, it's definitely worth the read and I'm very much looking forward to a good hate-to-love for the final chapter of this journey.

Oh, Lincoln!
If you have followed the Oxford and Stiletto books, you've met Lincoln who has always appeared to be the consummated playboy.
In this book, we get a glimpse past the smooth exterior and at the man behind the image. We discover that he isn't at all what we thought....
He is paired with the equally intriguing Daisy - the twin sister of a good friend.
I really enjoyed these two together- they are equal parts attraction and kindred spirit and the support they provide is just what the other needs.
This is a more emotional book than some of Ms. Layne's other work, but the angst isn't over the top. My only real complaint is that the issue of Lincoln hiding a major part of his life from his friends was never really addressed. It left me curious as to how he'd been able to do and I was a little surprised it was never discussed.
Because Lincoln's "reputation" plays fairly heavily in the early stages of the book- I'm not sure it's a true stand alone. I think the reader needs some exposure to prior books in the series to fully grasp his character.

Wow I loved this book. It was crazy sweet and had me laughing out loud at all the character antics. This is the first Lauren Layne book I have read where I realized that the main characters actually spend most of the story apart, or at least it seems that way when reading the novel. I usually don't like that. However, in Someone Like You, I couldn't have appreciated it more because Layne gave us two damaged characters who really needed to work on themselves before they could ever be together.
I really enjoyed the friends-to-lovers aspect of this novel. It wasn't a blatant friends-to-lovers plot, but rather a slowly developed friendship followed by thoughts of what-if. I also totally love all the secondary characters that Layne never forgets to include. And while this is not my favorite Lauren Layne novel (that place is reserved for After the Kiss), this book was sweet, had highs and lows, and was overall just a great novel and exactly what I needed to read.

Lincoln and Daisy are both hiding from their past. Lincoln has everyone that he works with believing he is a ladies man when in fact his heart and soul belong to someone who doesn't even know who he is anymore. Daisy is trying to get over the abuse her ex husband caused. When Lincoln and Daisy first meet they are instantly drawn to each other. Almost like they knew the pain each other was hiding. Their friendship grew a little faster than they expected along with some feelings that caught them off guard.
Daisy was the first person he trusted with his secrets. As their relationship grows they start to push each other away, both afraid of being hurt again. What they soon realize is that they are meant to be together to fully heal their hearts.
I have read all of the Oxford series and with each book Lauren seems to pull me in just a little bit more. I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next.

I have been patiently waiting for Lincoln's book since I fell head over heels in love with him in The Trouble With Love (Emma & Cassidy). I couldn't wait to see how his story played out, and while I had a few guesses, I never once grasped how emotionally challenging Lincoln's story would be. Someone Like You is definitely LL's most emotionally intense book! It's weighted perfectly though, since moments of lightness can be found in Daisy's disposition, their friends popping into their lives, and the scenes where Daisy and Lincoln bonded. But the heavier, darker moments, I wasn't mentally prepared for. Please know that I usually adore stories like this, but I read this while I watched someone I love slowly pass away. So while I thought I was stepping into smiling, laughter and banter, what I got was something entirely different. And while that's not necessarily bad, it was too hard for me. So please take my rating with a grain of salt since Someone Like You was too emotionally gutting for me to handle during this time in my life.
As I said, I fell for Lincoln back in the Stiletto Series. He was known for being a player and entirely addicting. He was seen as some type of legend, since the woman still loved him even after they hooked up with him, and he would move onto someone else. I was more than intrigued! And while he had let a hint of his true self show a time or two, I never had a good grasp of who Lincoln truly was. Until now. And Lincoln broke my heart. His past and present were beyond depressing. The secret in his life, if you want to call it that, oh my gosh it hurt so much to see what he was going through. Lincoln was gutted and tortured. He was broken. And I desperately wanted him to get a happily ever after!
We met Daisy back in the Stiletto Series too, since she is Emma's twin. Remember Emma and Cassidy - he stood her up at the altar and then years later he was her temporary boss and he made her write an article on her exes. Well Daisy had quite a few scenes in Emma's book. Ironically though, I never had a good grasp on her either, just like Lincoln. While she came across as this sweet southern belle who had some sass, it always felt as though there was something lurking below her surface. That she was hiding something. And oh yeah, she was! While her pain is entirely different from Lincoln's, it's still horrific life changing pain, just like his.
So watching them together, they were two peas in a pod. Their friendship felt natural and the progression it took seemed realistic. I loved that they became each others confidants. I loved that they created such a strong bond in such a short amount of time, and I loved the heat that you felt between them. It was so refreshing seeing a solid friendship that was based on trust.
Oh my goodness, I was so giddy catching up on everyone's lives from the previous Stiletto and Oxford books! The surprises?! *soooo good!!!* And I absolutely adored Lincoln's dog, Kiwi. She was so cute in the scenes where she graced us with her presence. So if you're a Stiletto and Oxford fan, I do believe that you'll truly love Lincoln's story! Just make sure to pick it up when you're not going through something too dark and depressing, or else you could struggle and sob hysterically at times like me.

If you've been following Lauren Layne for some time and have read her Oxford series, I am pretty sure you were expecting this book like crazy since Lincoln made his first appearence in Irresistibly Yours. I love Lauren Layne, love love love her so I had insanely high expectations for this and that is not always good because sometimes books do not reach said expectations. Well, this was not the case. Lincoln's story was everything I expected it to be! Thank you LL because you are simply a genius!
Someone like You is the third installment in the Oxford series and it can be considered the last regarding this series and the Stiletto books too (even though Lauren is writing a fourth spin-off Oxford novel).
As I said, we met Lincoln Mathis at the start of the series and he is known to be the funny and sexy playboy of the group. But, there have always been mysteries around him that made us think he is not what he appears to be. Daisy Sinclair (we met her in the Stiletto series) is broken too. She is a just divorced woman, still affected by how her marriage ended and she is not expecting to feel what she feels when she is around Lincoln. Both of them do not expect to slowly heal each other.
“Divorced, damaged, and ever so fragile. You? Why is it that you’re to be avoided?”
“Consummate playboy, intriguingly unattainable, with just a dash of dangerous secrets.”
Lauren Layne is one of my favorite authors since I read the first Oxford novel and she definitely did not disappoint with Someone like You. It was what I expected and so much more. It's the story of two broken souls (especially Lincoln) that slowly piece the shattered pieces of their hearts together. I don't want to spoil anything so I will just say these two totally deserved to find their HEA after everything they suffered. My poor heart broke for Lincoln when we discovered the whole truth and for Daisy too. I totally cried my eyeballs out with this book and I loved every second of it!
“It’ll eat you alive if you go there.”
“I think it already is.”
This book has the perfect plot and the perfect characters. Both main and secondary (I loved seeing all the Oxford/Stiletto team again!!) are just a fantastic mix of outstanding characters. I love how Lauren writes their connections, how she keeps everyone together and how she develops the love story. I totally get why this relationship developed even more slowly than the other ones that she has written but I also missed having more moments of Lincoln and Daisy as a couple. Still, it was such a beautiful read that I can't complain when we got Lauren at her best.
Did Lincoln know that the more he put her back together again, the more power he had to break her heart?
As always, when it gets to the first kiss part and the sex part, OMG woman! LL knows how to write those for sure! She makes you feel all the feels, all the butterflies and everything else with her words. Lincoln and Daisy have great chemistry, as friends and as a couple. They are definitely on my top favorite couples by Lauren Layne!
“If I did it, Wallflower, if I felt that way again, it would be about someone like you.”
This woman. It took nothing but the taste of her mouth to turn him into a starving man who couldn’t get enough.
I am going to miss all these fantastic characters. SO MUCH! The friendships, the familiarity and the love relationships are one of the things Lauren writes best. She made me love all these people so much that it will be hard saying goodbye. But, I loved how she wrote the ending and how she involved everyone in it! It was absolutely brilliant.
“Give me one more chance. Just one more chance, love. My love.”
Therefore, my rating for Someone like You is 5 STARS because Lincoln's story definitely reached the high expectations I had for it. As I said, I missed having more 'couple' moments but I get it too: they had to heal first. I really really will miss these characters but I am sure Lauren will write more amazing people in the future and I can't wait! So, if you are LL fan you can't miss this book, like READ IT right now! It was so good, I highly recommend it!

Was Lincoln worth the wait? Hell yeah he was! Boy oh boy, we've been waiting for the elusive Lincoln to finally get his story and boy did he and with a woman who clearly was his perfect match in Daisy Sinclair.
Lincoln was warned off. Stay away from Daisy. But the moment he sees her, there is a pull. A kindred spirit that he can't ignore.
He has a million secrets, a million reasons why he should stay away from Daisy. But the two are cut from the same mold. She has a past that leads her to keep the world at a distance. To not see the real her. But there's something about Lincoln that makes Daisy's walls start to crumble.
We get to see a whole new Lincoln in Someone Like You that makes you fall in love with the flirty and sexy bachelor that much more.
Such a great book full of all kinds of emotions making you turn those pages faster than you knew possible. 5 Amazing Stars!

Well, we finally hear from Lincoln and what a story it was.
If you’ve read this series so far, you already know who Lincoln is and have come to love him already. However, we find that he’s NOTHING like we thought he was.
In this one, we learn what his deal is and I wanted to both hug and kiss the hell out of this guy. To say this guy was loyal is putting it mildly. None of the characters in this series have shown this level of loyalty so far and it blew my mind. This guy is ridiculously charming, but the pain hidden inside is off the charts. I truly cried for him and I enjoyed his journey to healing. This guy deserved the best HEA ever, you guys, and he got that with Daisy.
Daisy was another character fighting some serious demons of her own; and just like Lincoln she carried that all by herself, not letting anyone see it. I liked Daisy, she was a little lost, but who hasn’t been? And I liked that she was finding herself and trying not be defined by her past. She was sweet and fierce. :-)
Their time together was great, and I liked Daisy best in that instead of Lincoln, who was constantly pulling away, lol. You could tell they both wanted more, but Lincoln’s past was too much for him. I did want to punch him at some point, because Daisy deserved a better treatment than what he did, but he more than made up for it.
The ending was too perfect for words, and just the HEA they both deserved times 100. :-)
Can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Here's my watershed realization. Lauren Layne, gets me. She writes stories that can breakdown emotions. She can write a story that will have me struggling to keep a straight face or fighting to hold back the tears. Someone Like You is a blend of the two that delivers a freeing experience. Lincoln and Daisy have seen some of their darkest moments play out in real time, right before their eyes. Broken hearts, shattered dreams and devastating losses have resided outside of their front door but a guardian angel has their back. All through this story I kept coming back to the adage about people coming into your life for a reason and that seemed to be the case with Daisy and Lincoln. In order to heal, each needed a friend. In order to move forward, they had to let go of the past. Like a fine wine, the Oxford series keeps getting better with time.

SOMEONE LIKE YOU is Lauren Layne's most anticipated release to date, and it lives up to the hype every step of the way.
Notorious playboy, Lincoln Mathis, has everyone in his life right where he wants them - close but not too close. That is, until, hot, Southern Belle, Daisy Sinclair saunters into his life. Daisy Sinclair is hot off of a new divorce, and quite the damaged flower...or so everyone thinks. A couple of long nights lead to fun-filled days and incredibly, dangerous lines. Lincoln Mathis has one hell of a secret, and the only person close enough to figure it out is the one person with a big secret of her own.
If you're looking for a book with heart break, love, intrigue, intense chemistry, or everything in between...you HAVE to HAVE SOMEONE LIKE YOU. Lauren Layne is at her absolute best in the one story fans have waited years to hear.

Lincoln Mathis has been a secondary character in the Oxford series but he has managed to be larger than life with his reputation as a love 'em and leave 'em smiling guy. But, there has always been a sense that there was so much more to Lincoln than he shows. In this book, we find out the real reason that Lincoln never gets close to the ladies. Suffice it to say, it will make you love him even more.
Daisy Sinclair meets Lincoln at Emma and Cassidy's wedding when they are the bests for the two lovebirds. They strike up a friendship because they sort of recognize that each of them is presenting a face to the world that covers a dark place in their hearts. When Daisy discover's Lincoln's secret, she is already starting to see him in a more than a friend light but realizes that he will never be available emotionally. When tragedy strikes, Lincoln goes into a tailspin and Daisy is there to support him. The real question is- will Lincoln ever be able to move on and see what is right in front of him.
I loved this book, the characters, the plot, everything about it. Readers of the series will be thrilled with the way Lincoln's story turns out. The audio version, narrated by Lucy Malone is exceptional as well.

Someone like You can be read as a standalone. Each book in this series is about a different couple. This is Lincoln and Daisy's story.
Daisy is recently divorced and coming to New York for her twin sister's wedding. She is damaged and an expert at hiding it. Until she meets Lincoln, who sees right through her.
Lincoln plays the playboy, but it's really a front to keep people from getting close to his secrets. When he sees Daisy at the wedding, he can't stay away. For some reason she calms him.
I really enjoyed this book. I laughed, I cried. I could hardly put it down until I was done. The sexy time scenes were HOT.
The writing was fantastic and the story flowed seamlessly. It's told in both Lincoln and Daisy's POV.

This is a funny and heartbreaking story. Keep Kleenexes nearby.
Daisy is in town for her twin sisters wedding. She is divorced and a little damaged. She is warned about Logan, the ladies man.
Logan is a flirt but hides behind a smile and jokes. He was told to stay away from Daisy but he sees past her walls too.
They become friends and then tragedy strikes and Logan shuts her out. But to get his head back on straight, his friends send him to North Carolina and Daisy. He takes off and Daisy moves to NY and things heat up.
Logan is still not over his past and he could lose his future with Daisy for good.
I probably didn't do this book justice but you will not be disappointed.

I have been waiting for Lincoln since I first met him in the previous series. I knew there was something there. I knew it was deep. I knew it would change things for him and the status he had worked to cultivate. I knew it would take real woman to get around all that he had in place to seem the ultimate playboy. It was not all that he was about. I just did not think much of it being Daisy. I guess two peas in a pod can make for a perfect pie.
I was blown of my rocker by all the revelations. Daisy and Lincoln most certainly have a past they both wish to forget. But moving on with life was not that simple or easy to do. With the help of the other maybe it will be that much easier to cope with.
These two broken souls find more of themselves in the other and work to make things more than what it is. I loved the read and the connection for these two characters. The read allowed for more of the other characters from the interconnecting series (Stilettos & Oxford) to co-exist. There are a few more left to have the HEA. I wonder how their stories will play out.

If you followed this series, you were probably waiting for Lincoln's story. This will not disappoint you. The story is filled with the usual witty dialogue and funny scenes. It also deals with Lincoln's reality. He is not the spoiled player that he shows everyone. His friends know that there is more to him, and that there was something in his past that was bad. Lincoln's situation was sad and made you love him even more. He showed how loyal and loving he could be. Daisy has a messy past too. They start as friends and this progress from there. There are some ups and downs due to, guilt, anger, and fear. Most of that was from Lincoln. He was a complete mess. He worked his way through it and had to do some groveling but in the end it worked out. I really enjoyed this story and recommend the entire series for reading.

The previous books have already made me fall in love with Lincoln, and I have been looking forward to this book since forever :)). Getting this book was a bittersweet feeling for me since I already had very high expectations. But Ms Layne has surpassed them all.
Lincoln has been keeping a secret that not even his best friends are privy to. Daisy is getting over a bad marriage. When these two meet at Emma and Cassidy's wedding, their connection is instant. They both are able to see beyond the others shield. Will their connection lead to healing their damaged souls or destroy them ?
This book was simply awesome and a must read. It had its light moments that made me smile and moments that made me cry. I think it's a book that should not be missed. A definite definite recommendation.

The two main characters, Daisy and Lincoln, were utterly perfect together. The story was so deep and emotional. Yet, I still got that wonderful character banter that Layne is such a genius at creating. This book was PACKED full of the scenes featuring the Sex, Love & Stiletto/Oxford series characters and I loved it. I truly felt like this story was so much more different from her other books. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Lincoln and Emma had a lot to work through. Together they helped fight each other's demons, but they also had some fighting to do on their own. I loved learning about Lincoln, and this whole side to him no one knows about. Well. I love aspects of it. His actual story is heartbreaking. What I mean is, I love who Lincoln really is. This author always brings it when it comes to her characters and chemistry. She knows how to realistically bring them to life.

Images can be deceiving especially for the great character of Lincoln Mathis. This man is totally swoon worth but at times acts like a total douche. But i can forgive him as the way he is in this book is so delectable i adore him. Daisy though she is even better that Lincoln, a woman who has dealt with a lot and has a lot more to deal with. A very very good story about second chance meetings when situations have changed and the hope for something more substantial than what these characters have had before
Please RateSomeone Like You: An Oxford Novel
Daisy has just come out of a disastrous marriage and is looking for a new start. Definitely not a new relationship though, which is why she can sense in Lincoln a kindred spirit when she meets him at her twin sister’s pre-wedding festivities. Oh, he’s attractive enough, if that drop dead gorgeous look appeals to you, but the smile doesn’t quite reach his eyes and his flirtatious manner is a little too easy. In the wedding party together, they play the parts required but find themselves drawn to each other on a whole different level. Their friendship, their easy camaraderie and the desire to be truthful with each other means they are willing to risk opening up secrets that haven’t been shared before. But when that emotional connection leads to stronger feelings, will they have the strength to let go of the past and take a chance on happiness again?
Have some tissues handy when you read this one, because it’s a tearjerker. I’m not normally one for angsty reads, but I trust Lauren Layne to handle sensitive subject matter and difficult emotional situations with the promise of a happy ending to wipe away the tears. It would give too much away to reveal what it is about Lincoln’s past that has made him the man he is today, but I can say that you feel a lot of empathy for what he’s gone through and know that if ever a man deserves a happy ending, it’s him. Lincoln goes through a lot in this story, and his relationship with Daisy has several twists and turns before he’s fully ready to commit to what they are building.
While Daisy hasn’t been through the same situation as Lincoln, she has experienced her own trauma in an abusive marital relationship that she kept hidden even from her twin sister. Now divorced, she’s still living in the home she got from the divorce, which makes it a challenge to move on, though she’s trying. What she really needs is a friend she can trust, and she finds that with Lincoln. I loved seeing the two of them deepen that friendship and navigate the troubled waters of moving forward. Eventually Daisy has to make some decisions for herself and her own well being, and it’s up to Lincoln to decide whether to stay where he is in life or move forward with her. Because of their unique circumstances there is a lot of sexual tension in the story that doesn’t get fulfilled between them until later in the second half but it’s worth the wait. This is my favorite of the Oxford stories to date and is one of those hard to put down stories that will keep you up reading late into the night to get to Lincoln and Daisy’s happy ending.
