I purchased because of previous reviews and have to say I enjoyed the book. Story seemed to be predictable but did the unexpected and the characters kept me attached. I enjoyed this rainy Saturday afternoon read.

The first in the Oxford series could pretty much be part of the Stiletto series, they are so similar. Which means you get an interesting couple with something keeping them apart and a sweet romance. This novel doesn't deliver on the humour of the Stiletto novels though and really felt like it needed something extra.

Clearly there's a series of novels predating this one, so some of the other characters and their behaviour are hard to understand since I haven't read the series. I liked Pen. For Cole I never understand instalove for male (or female) "players". I also find his extreme reaction to Bobby's accident unrealistic. Then boom they make up, the end. Not great story crafting.

I had forgot that this book had been downloaded so I started reading but it just didn't hold my attention. I found myself skimming. I'm a huge fan of sports stories but I never made the connection with H/h.

Overall Opinion: This was a cute, easy, and pretty light read. It didn't have that much angst, and the drama it did have was mild and unnecessary IMO. It's not going down as a favorite, it was enjoyable overall, but probably not all that memorable in the long run. I thought it was ok....yep, that's it -- just ok.
**See goodreads.com/NMmomof4 for my full review with spoilers**
Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Penelope and Cole's story. They meet at a baseball game where Cole is instantly intrigued by the woman so engrossed in the game and eating a hot dog. Cole is shocked to learn that she is his big competitor for the new editor position for the sports section in the Oxford men's magazine. The become friends, and eventually start a friends-with-benefits type arrangement -- but of course it doesn't end there. There are some funny moments, some sexy time moments, some sweet moments, some dramatic moe nuts...but the couple get their HFN ending.
POV: This alternated between focusing on Penelope and Cole in 3rd person narrative.
Overall Pace of Story: Ok. This flowed well and I didn't skim, but the ending was too abrupt for me.
Instalove: No. I think this had adequate time for their relationship to develop.
H rating: 3 stars. Cole. I liked him up until the end in their big dramatic event
h rating: 3 stars. Penelope. I started to get put off by her reluctance to feel anything for Cole. I get that she was recently hurt, but she took a long time to let that go.
Sadness level: Low. I didn't need any tissues.
Heat level: Moderate/low. I felt like it was more about furthering their emotional connection for most of the scenes, so I wouldn't necessarily call them hot.
Descriptive sex: Yes for some scenes, and others are just mentions of them being intimate.
Safe sex: Yes. Mentions of condoms being used.
OW/OM drama: Yes.
Sex scene with OW or OM: No
Closure: This did not have enough closure for my liking. I would call it a HFN ending. I wanted more time with them as an official couple, or a jump into their further committed future would've been perfect!
How I got it:. I paid the $0.99 on the store.

Irresistibly Yours is the first book in Lauren Layne's Oxford series, a spin off from her very successful Sex, Love & Stiletto series and this one brings back one of readers favorite secondary characters. Cole Sharpe freelance sportswriter for Oxford is a shoe in for the sports editor job. A permanent position that he's eschewed quite a number of times but has suddenly found himself wanting badly. But then his chances of getting it is cut down to fifty percent when someone else is after the spot. Surprisingly, his rival is cute and friendly sports genius Penelope Pope, someone who he can't really find himself being indifferent to, in fact they're becoming BFFs fast. Who would have thought, Penelope aka "Tiny" would end up his best buddy and co worker to boot. But then when did he start lusting after cute brunettes rather than tall curvy blondes? Penelope has always known she'd be friend zoned for life and so when ever charming Cole starts showing signs of interest she decided to put up barriers fast. She didn't want to end up hurt again. But when lust seems greater than logic what are they supposed to do? This enchanting, funny, sweet and so hilarious take on the rivals to friends to lovers trope is guaranteed to keep you reading well past your bedtime. Cole and Penelope's journey into the ever confusing world of relationships is one entertaining moment after another. For them sports seems way easier to navigate, but someone to hug at night is so worth the heartache. Irresistibly Yours is so, so good, its going to be one of those books you'll keep re-reading. This is a great first book into what looks like another great series.

Sigh... so much love for the Oxford men, loved Irresistibly Yours!
Can't stop smiling, loved Cole and Penelope.
From the first page I was hooked, I fell in love with the storyline and characters. I read it in one sitting.
The chemistry between Cole and Penelope was believable and well written, loved their banter and humor, it really added to my enjoyment of the story.
Once again Lauren Layne has written a heartwarming and entertaining romance with lovable and relatable characters that will touch your heart and leave you with a very satisfying smile on your face.
I highly recommend this book and everything else this talented author has written!

Here is another awesome story by author Lauren Layne- this is a sports themed story that is about two writers who write about- as you guessed it- sports and they are fighting for the same position at the same paper (Oxford Magazine). In one corner we have Cole Sharpe who thinks he is automatically going to be handed the job . In the other corner, we have Penelope Pope who thinks she is going to be getting this job because she is awesome at her job. The two MC meet and the chemistry between them was electric—I mean, you could see the charged atmosphere around them. Each though they had this job only to realize the other one was going to make a play for the other job.
This was a great story, getting to watch Cole and Penny together, watching how opposites attract. Watching as the attraction grows between the MC and as they realize cupid can strike at any time, anyone. Watching Cole turn on the charm to Penny , because at first, he wanted her out of the way for him to take this job then really because he was falling in love. The charm didn’t seem to work to Cole’s eyes but in essence did work for Penny was falling in love with him and she really did want the job as the new sports writer because she has just moved from Chicago to New York City and she grew up as more of a tomboy then a girlygirl. This was such a great story to read, watching the ups and downs between the MC…also to see previous characters from the other books the LL wrote make an appurtenance--- Stiletto girls. It was wonderful and I really enjoyed the outcome of this story and cannot wait for book 2 in this new series. The HEA in this story was fantastic and Cole and Penny were truly heartwarming. Penny was a sassy, outgoing woman who matched Cole’s alpha, macho and sexy self. For those who liked the author’s Stiletto’s series, you will adore her new one.

Irresistibly Yours was such a cute, fun read. I loved Cole and Penelope. I loved how they work together and both like the other, but neither thinks they really want something longterm. Or Penelope is not willing to have another unrequited crush. These two were so cute together!!
Cole is a freelance sports writer for Oxford magazine. When a sports editor position opens up he wants it. He figures he is a shoe in and he will get the job. The interview will just be a formality and he has nothing to worry about. Only they said they are looking outside as well and have found another great candidate. If only he can figure out who it is and see what his chances are.
Penelope loves sports. She is used to being seen as just one of the guys. She hasn't really had much experience with relationships. After all her last crush left her pretty beat up. He used her and she is now more skeptical than ever. She moved cities to get away from him, away from everything she knew and is hoping to get the sports editor job at Oxford.
When Cole and Penelope first meet it was awesome. Cole is intrigued by her as she is just as focused on the game they are at as he is. Or he usually is. For some reason he can't stop looking at her and thinking about her. He doesn't know she is his competition for the job he desperately needs. Once he finds out it was fun. He is not a jerk. He still helps her however he can because he is such a great guy. I loved him.
These two were great together. They had to figure out what they wanted and how to make everything work. Penelope keeps guarding her heart and telling Cole she doesn't like him like that because she thinks he thinks she is just another conquest. Only she isn't and her rejection stings. So it takes them awhile, but these two were so much fun to read. I loved it. I loved how they both loved sports, how they could just hang out and be low key and it was fine, how everything played out. This was another great read from this author.

I generally enjoy sports romance and this one does stand out among them since it's about the sport journalists and not the players, but the game and the fan love for it is so very strong and noticealby present in the story. It's was such a sweet, funny romance I greatly enjoyed.
This is a spinoff series but I haven't read the previous set of books and this didn't affect my enjoyment of the story in the slightest.
Irresistibly Yours is my first book by Lauren Layne and I liked her easy, comfortable writing and the smooth flow of the story as whole. There was the right balance between drama, humour, sex and tender emotions.
Penelope (Tiny) is not your typical romance heroine - she is a tomboy, a real sports fan, who tries to act as one of the guys because she ultimately doesn't believe she is attractive/sexy. This self-depreciation could easily come off as annoying and too contrived but that was not the case. I found it fitting her character and when it came to being with Cole she didn't act shy despite her inexperience and insecurities.
Cole was an interesting character as Penelope, though certainly more typical than her. A sports writer, a lady's man but also someone who starts feeling the pressure of being all alone, of being his brother's only support system. His gradual realisation of his attraction to Tiny was sweet and it did take him by surprise.
Taken on its own some elements in the story should not work for me - a tomboy heroine who doesn't realise how attractive she is, a womaniser hero who falls for a woman who is not his usual type at all and he is all baffled by it. Surpringly put together these elements the way Ms Layne did, I found them true-to-life and strangely attractive.
I loved the sports aspect of the story as well, the sense of loving a game, caring about it and respecting the players. I liked the easy camaraderie between all the characters, the sense of community and friendship which I always appreciate in a romance novel.
Cole's secret side, his relationship with Bobby was also wonderfully done, without going overboard in sentimentality, just real, emotional but also messy and at time tiring and confusing.
Overall, this turned out to be a very enjoyable, sweet and light romance and I'm very much looking forward ot reading more in this series!

IRRESISTIBLY YOURS you were so close to being on the track for perfection! We had a great match-up for Cole, someone not his usual type and yet completely his type. A strong foundation of friendship and fun and (platonic) feelings. We also had a wonderful lead in Penelope, a girl all about the sports and with some low self-esteem issues but just so happy and sweet and positive.
But then.. then you brought the guy who broke her heart and ruined her career into the picture. Then you had Cole turn into an irrational human being when something bad happens (thank you for acknowledging it, Layne, but that doesn't keep out the sting). And the catalyst for their resolution? Probably the worst part.
The friendships, though, especially the bromances, were so so strong in this one. Which makes sense as this is the Oxford side of it all. Adding Penelope into the mix, though, made it even better. The scene with Lincoln, Jake & Cole in her office, when they talk about HR.. effing hilarious.
I have some concerns over the subject, and the subject matter, of book two only because.. what? Really? Just throwing a new character and his unknown love interest at us at the eleventh hour, eh, Layne? I see what you're doing. Dragging out the payout for Lincoln's story. Okay. Fine. We'll see how this goes.

You know... I really should know better by now... Picking up a Lauren Layne book after 9 o'clock at night is never a good idea, especially the night after I was up all night reading another book. I keep telling myself that, but do I ever listen? Well, apparently not because I was, once again, a zombie the following morning. Do I regret the lack of sleep? Not one bit. Do I regret scaring people that came across my path? Well, maybe... But hey, Halloween is in less than two weeks. I'm only preparing people for the inevitable.
If you've read my blog post from yesterday, then you'll probably have guessed that Lauren's Irresistibly Yours was the second book I couldn't wait to get my greedy little paws on. Her books embody everything that I love in contemporary romance right now. Amazing and irresistible characters that make you fall in love at first sight. Writing that makes you want to re-read each page 5 times just to make sure you didn't miss a word. And scenes that can make you laugh out loud, sob like a baby, or even a little of both. I was hooked on Lauren's every word from the first page. Truth be told, I have only read a handful of her previous books and I don't recall much about Cole Sharpe from the previous book (which was actually the last book in the Stilettos series), so I got to meet him with fresh eyes. Can we clone him? Seriously... The man is book boyfriend material. He's got the hidden sensitive side that really only comes out after her meets Penelope "Tiny" Pope. She brings out the best in him and it was so much fun watching him woo her. The men in Tiny's life need to be kicked in the junk. Reeling from the jerk that left her hanging, she doesn't let men get close and immediately plants herself firmly in the friend zone. Once Cole sets his sights on Tiny, he will do anything to make her see herself as the same beautiful woman he sees. The two of them together were marvelous. I loved the playful moments they shared just as much as the sizzling chemistry that sparks every time they are together. Perfection!
Lauren Layne had made her way onto my "must read" list. I have loved every book I've read of hers and Irresistibly Yours was no different. From the moment I was finished with the first page that I knew I would not be able to put it down. And I didn't... My goal now is to go back and read the previous books I somehow missed. And I will do so happily.
I received an ARC copy in exchange for a honest review.

This is exactly my kind of contemporary novel. I love stories with excellent witty banter. Cole and Penelope have it in spades and it adds the spark that keeps you hooked as a reader. This book is fast paced and electric. Reading it was like glimpsing into the world of really hot and fun executives in the publishing world. But what really got me was the very well developed characters and the sparkling dialogue.
Cole and Penelope have an amazing relationship. Cole can be flirty without Penelope taking it the wrong way. She is every guy’s dream friend – totally into sports, eats greasy food and is smart. They are competing for the same job, which both of them really need. Penelope needs it because she is due for a job of this calibre and has worked damn hard for it. Cole needs it because (his pride wants it) but he has to pay bills for his brother’s group home. This made it so hard as the reader. I liked both Cole and Penelope immensely. I wanted them both to get the job! So thankfully, Alex gives it to them both and makes them co-editors of the new sports section of Oxford magazine. Now, the question becomes, how will they work together?
From the start they have excellent chemistry. Cole can’t believe how cool Penelope is. Not only is she adorable, but she is real. I adored Cole. Handsome charmer, he always has the right lines and come backs. See the texts they sent each other as an example:
Penelope: Your precious Yankees aren’t looking so hot.
Cole: You watch your filthy Chicago mouth.
Penelope: Hmmm, maybe I need glasses, because I keep looking at my tv, and I’m seeing Chicago White Sox: 6, New York Yankees: 2….What are you seeing?
Cole: The Yanks will come back. They always do.
Penelope: Has anyone told you how cute your delusions are?
Cole: Not recently. Want to come over and tell me to my face?
Penelope: Nice try, Sharpe. I’m quite comfortable on my own couch, thank you very much.
Cole: Fair enough…what are you wearing?
Penelope: Goodbye, Cole.
So awesome right??? It was so fun watching Cole and Penelope work together. The other guys around the office make it such a fun place to work. Cole is just fascinated by Penelope and is finding himself majorly attracted to her. The shift from co-workers to lovers is perfectly told. I would hate to say this book was predictable, because it wasn’t, but it was everything I was hoping for. An extremely fun and interesting story with great characters, sexy time and a satisfying resolution.
Cole is my kind of guy. He’s the charmer that I can’t help but fall for. So reading this book was intoxicating. I blasted through this book in order to find out what happened, but at the same time, I wanted to slow down to relish every word. That, my friends is how you know you are reading a great book. I have actually already downloaded other books in the series because I really liked the characters that support the leads.
Penelope was a great character and while I don’t have much in common with her, she was immensely relatable. That is the sign of a great writer. I haven’t read anything by Lauren Layne before, but this was a wonderful introduction and I will be following her from now on!
Personally, I love all of Lauren Layne's books that I've read. Unfortunately for me I have not read the Stiletto series yet, but I will correct that soon. With that being said, I don't feel that I was missing out on anything major while reading this book.
The story starts out with Cole Sharpe sitting at a baseball game. He went to watch the game, but he's also there to spy too. He was told that his competition for the new senior sports editor position at Oxford would also be at the game. However, a tiny brunette who seems to be encompassed with the game is stealing all of his attention.
Before he knows he's moved, Cole is sitting next to her and has turned on the charm. To his dismay, she's not fazed by him and would rather watch the game. Baffled, Cole is interrupted by Alex Cassidy, the editor in chief at Oxford, who breaks the news that the tiny brunette sitting next to him, Penelope Pope, is his competition. And then things get interesting.
See, Cole has been working freelance for Oxford for the last few years. Recently the company decided to expand their sports division and they have an opening for a senior sports editor. Cole needs the stability that this job would offer because he is taking care of his brother too. He's also a charmer and can usually charm his way into or out of most situations. However, charm is not going to win him this job, especially not with Penelope gunning for it too.
Penelope Pope has just moved to New York City from Chicago. She may be tiny, but she grew up as more of a tomboy, loving all things sports, so it makes sense that she would want the new sports writer position at Oxford. Penelope can spout out statistics better than most men. She did notice Cole's good looks and charm that day at the game, but feels she's not anywhere in his league, so she befriends him instead.
"I don't have any illusions about the fact that I'm a friend-zone kind of girl, and I'm okay with that. Plus, lucky for you, I'm a darn good friend."
They both are hired for the job as co-editors and quickly become BFFs. It only makes sense since they are together a lot and love the same things. As much as they try to keep their relationship strictly friends, the attraction between them cannot be denied. When they decide to act on their attraction they have one rule...Promise to never fall in love with each other. The question is can they keep that promise?
This story was so sweet. It was funny and sexy and irresistible. The writing just flowed and kept me engrossed wanting to know more. I love how Penelope fit right in, not only with the boys, but with the Stiletto girls too. And of course I loved Lincoln too. Who didn't? I can't wait to read his story. I'm so curious as to what type of girl will catch him and make him a one woman man. I'm sure, if there are others out there like me, they will be catching up on the Stiletto series right away.

Wow! Loved this well written, engaging, sexy and sweet sports romance, but this is what I have come to expect when the author is Lauren Layne. This was entertaining and oh so hot. A full story with great details, excellent characters as well as secondary characters in the Stiletto girls and their significant others as well as the other staff members of the Oxford Office who added great witty banter and scheming that you will love. I was engaged from the first page to the last I could not put this down
Cole Sharpe has been a freelance journalist at Oxford for years and he needed this new Senior Sports Editor job to help pay for Bobby, his brothers' care. He thought he had the job in the bag until his boss told him he had some competition. When he found out his competition would be at the game he was eager to size them up, but when he got there he didn't see anybody. Then he notices a woman and it seemed he couldn't take his eyes off of her. She was so engrossed in the game and writing things down in a little notebook that he couldn't even see her face but he was entranced by her, she wasn't his typical type he usually went for, which was the tall curvy blondes and here she was a tiny, thin, brunette with no curses at all, but before he knew it he was sitting right beside her. Now she was so engrossed with eating a hotdog that he just watched, he had never seen a woman eat like that before and when she looked up at him finally he was taken back by her enormous, huge, brown, eyes. But then his boss finally shows up and he finds out that this woman is his competition.
Penelope Pope has just moved from Chicago or you could say she was running from Chicago and a recent heartbreak. Penelope was not only attractive to look at but she is feisty, sweet a tomboy and so honest and real. Sports has been her life and she needs this job so she won't have to return to Chicago. After having her portfolio of her ideas stolen by a colleague that she had feelings of love for and then finding out that he had a girlfriend she was devastated and heartbroken. Losing the job she wanted and then Evan getting it was the final straw, and she had to leave all her friends and family and move to New York. So after enduring such heartbreak, she isn't ready and doesn't want to start any relationship with anyone especially someone she had to work with she can only manage to stay in the friend only zone.
I really liked the perfect slow build between Penelope and Cole. From friends to more, but what? They had both made a promise not to fall in love. But with all that great chemistry that led to a nice amount of sexy times as well as so much in common, will love sneak in and change everything. You will have to read this to find out? What happens when Evan realizes that he misses Penelope and comes to New York to get her back? Will the Girls of Stiletto and their scheming get their desired results? You will have to read this to find out. Loved this story and I can't wait to read Lincoln's story in Playing for Keeps coming in December. Highly Recommended!

Irresistibly Yours is the first novel in the Oxford series from bestselling author Lauren Layne, which is a spin-off of her Stiletto series, one that I have yet to read but it's safe to say that you can go into this new series without any prior knowledge of the original series. Of course, if you're like me, you're going to end up adding the Stiletto books to your to-be-read list for that complete reading experience...or simply because you can never have too many books on your TBR list. This new series is about the writers of Oxford magazine, the male-driven counterpart of Stiletto magazine. Aside from Cole Sharpe, I believe that Lincoln Mathis and Jackson Burke are also going to be a part of the series, mainly because Lincoln is Cole's best friend with a dark secret and Jackson's name and journalism degree were mentioned in the epilogue.
This was an irresistibly whimsical romance between Cole and Penelope, two people who have an affinity for anything and everything sports-related and begin the story with both of them vying for the same position on Oxford magazine. I lost count of how many times I smiled while reading this love story because these two were as cute as you could get without ever being sickeningly sweet. I saw the book going in one direction but Lauren Layne put her own spin on things and surprised me with her creative touch, making this a sports-related romance that relied heavily on themes of family and friendship. The fact that Cole and Penelope really do become friends before falling in love led to bonus points in my book. This wasn't a case of insta-anything and the development of their relationship was well-paced while remaining exciting.
Cole and Penelope were a great couple and I loved that what they had felt genuine and without all the frills that tend to feel like they're overcompensating for a lack of spark or chemistry, something these two had in spades. In their being seemingly ordinary individuals, they turned out to be an extraordinary twosome. Family was an important component for both of them, clearly seen in Cole's relationship with his older brother Bobby and the support that Penelope got from her parents and sister. Then you've got the endearingly meddlesome but always well-meaning pack of friends that Cole has that take Penelope in and make her feel as if she truly belonged. This is a series starter that has me excited for the books to come and for the series that came before it and you can't get much better than that. Five stars for Irresistibly Yours. ♥

Penelope Pope had left Chicago for New York after losing out on job that she had wanted more than anything. It wasn't because she wasn't qualified for the job though, it was because it was stolen from her by none other than the man that she had fallen in love with. She decided then and there that she was not meant for love. She would always be the tom boy that guys loved to hang out with and talk sports with but now that was coming to end as they had all fallen in love. No one wanted to hang out anymore just as no one saw her in a romantic way. She was too small, preferred beer and hot dogs over wine and roses and she knew sports probably better than any man on the planet.
Cole Sharpe had to land this job with Oxford Magazine. He'd been writing freelance for them for them for year and just knew that he was a shoo in. But he wasn't, there was someone just as good as he was, maybe even better and she came in a tiny little package that you couldn't help but to like. Cole always put his brother first so why was he helping Pope when it could very well mean that she land the job that he so desperately needed to keep his brother in the group home that he loved. Maybe it was because she looked so lost, those big brown eyes looking so desperate to make a good impression and no way of doing so at this point in time. Whatever it was, it didn't have anything to do with the fact that he hadn't stopped thinking about her from the moment he first laid eyes on her.
I loved the Sex, Love and Stiletto series and was so excited to see that this was a spinoff of that series only this time we get more of the guys rather than the girls being on the Oxford side of the magazine. Cole and Pen were perfect for each other and while they fought a decent battle you knew that they would succumb in the end. I cannot wait to read Lincoln's story, I've already known there was something about him and that his flirting was more of an act than anything else. After reading this book, I believe that even more.

Penelope has moved to, or rather, run away to, New York City. The man she loved betrayed her in more ways than one and she needed a fresh start and a new job. As a woman filled with passion and knowledge for sports of all kinds, but especially baseball, she is thrilled to be interviewing for a new editor position at Oxford, a men’s magazine that is strategically updating their content to include a sports section of substance. Besides the fact that she really wants this job, she also really needs this job, having moved away from family and friends – she has to make a living.
Cole has been a freelancer at Oxford for years, and he has thoroughly enjoyed it. However, the new editor position has him thinking a reliable paycheck wouldn’t be such a bad thing, especially since he is single-handedly paying for his disabled brother’s full-time housing and care. He believes he is a shoe-in for the position, especially since the person hiring is his long-time friend, Cassidy, until he learns there was a last-minute applicant who was highly qualified. Disappointed but determined, Cole decides that he will do whatever he needs to in order to come out on top – until he spots a vulnerability in his competition, and helping her is simply the right thing to do.
This is a wonderful story about the ups and downs of two people falling in like, maybe even love, even though they are each determined not to. There is a lot of humor and heat, and the supporting characters add significantly to the storyline. While there was more detail to the sex scenes than I prefer, both Penelope and Cole are easy to cheer for and easy to relate to, and this is overall just a great book to read. (And Lincoln has been an intriguing character himself in other books and this one is no different – I will be looking forward to reading his story!)

Cole Sharpe is finally going to join the Oxford family as their Sports Editor. That is the plan anyway. Then he finds out he is in competition with a small but amazing woman from Chicago. May the best sports-buff win.
Penelope Pope moves to New York to get over a man who took her job from under her back home. Then she meets the man who may win the job she has applied for. Cole is everything she would normally want in a man. She is everything he never wanted.
They decide to be friends right off since as Penelope points out, she always ends up in the "friend zone" anyway. She figures she will start there this time instead of get her hopes up. Only, Cole does not like how she assumes she is not worthy of a good man and a good relationship.
With a little help from couples who have been there, maybe Cole and Penelope can have an amazing future of their own. They just have a few bumps in the road to get past first. Definitely a few surprises in store for this couple!
Oxford is the magazine in the same building with Stiletto and the Characters are all here from the hit Sex, Love & Stiletto series. There is humor, heat, sports celebrities and more! I just loved this story! As the beginning to the Oxford series - this was an amazing start with very a sexy read.

"For Cole Sharpe. Penelope would have been one out of a million other women in his life. For Penelope, Cole might have been one in a million. The only one. It's how she rolled, throwing herself all the way over the ledge without looking."
There's a fine line between love and war...and these two know how to straddle that line.
I adored Cole and Penelope's story! There's something so entertaining about watching two people fall in love while trying so hard not to.
Penelope isn't a girly girl in any way (which I loved about her). That's also what makes her turn Cole's head. She's different-a breath of fresh air.
"You are so out of my league."
"Not from where I'm sitting."
The push and pull from these two, and the banter, was great! They didn't hold anything back from each other...except their feelings;)
I love Lauren's storytelling! You fall in love with her characters so quickly! She has the perfect mix between humor and swoon-worthy moments. Plus, there are serious undertones within that have you flipping the pages faster.
Penelope and Cole's story is no different. I want more of them!! I'm so excited for the next one! I can't wait to read more about the characters in this series:)

Confession time – I’ve been hearing about Lauren Layne for a long time, but this is the first book of hers that I’ve had the opportunity to read. What I want to know now is, what have I been waiting for? Irresistibly Yours is the first in the Oxford series and is a spin off from the Stiletto series. Characters from the Stiletto books make an appearance, but as great secondary characters. As a new reader to Ms. Layne’s work the cross over characters made me curious to read their stories, but they did not detract from the story of our main characters, Penelope and Cole. I absolutely loved Penelope and Cole. They are both fun characters and people I could see myself hanging out with, especially Penelope. Their interactions were fantastic from the get go and the transition from friends to lovers to in love were sweet to watch. My one complaint is honestly how easily Penelope seemed to forgive Cole after he screwed up. There were hints as to a “plan” instigated with one of their mutual friends, but that is never elaborated on and it felt a little bit like a loose end. Even with that issues, this is an incredibly enjoyable book and I am looking forward to the chance to go back and read the Stiletto series as well as other books on Ms. Layne’s backlist.

Layne just added some sex appeal to America’s favorite pasttime!
Oh what fun I had reading this sexy little romp! Cole is a man of many layers (Shrek would be proud), and he makes you want to pull them away one by one. His dedication to his older brother, who has Down Syndrome, his good-natured teasing, his dedication to his job, and his loyalty to his friends, make him one well-rounded, loveable character. I adored his pet name for Penelope almost as much as I adored Penelope herself. She was refreshing, and I smiled at just about everything she did and said. So innocent, yet so strong; she held her own with Cole, and she was just what he needed. I was pleased to see how their relationship ran so much deeper than the bedroom, and not eventually, but from the start. They had so much in common, and they enjoyed each other’s company- sans bedroom, which made the sex that much hotter.
The other members of the crew (Oxfords and Stilletos) added to the fun of the read, and they all complimented each other so well. The interactions were natural, the banter playful, yet serious when they needed to be. The descriptions put you right in the middle of the story. The flow is easy, and the pace steady. I’m so ready for the next installment.
I LOVED this story! Cole sounds like someone who is single and a player; however, he does love sports and his brother. He works as a freelance sports writer with his friends. When a chance to be the new sports editor comes up he finally decides it is time to go for it. He thought it would be an easy pick, but then he finds out there is another last minute candidate. Once he meets the other candidate, he isn't sure what to do or how to act when his competition is a woman! Penelope is a tomboy but there is something about her that draws Cole in. The story will have you chuckling at times and then at other times wanting to smack Cole upside his head! Both Penelope and Cole aren't sure how to deal with their attraction so their friends provide a little help! Loved the other characters, especially Cole's brother. Looking forward to finding out Lincoln's story!

I absolutely loved this book. It was exactly what I was hoping for when I heard Cole was getting a book. The Stiletto and Oxford world is so much fun to be immersed in. It is so easy to fall in love with the characters. With both of these series, each book that I’ve picked up was ridiculously hard to put down. As soon as I finished this last night, I started reading the next one because I really couldn’t wait. I only put it down because I couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore.
I’ve been intrigued by Cole since the beginning and I am so glad that we got to see the man behind the playboy reputation. He is so much more than that. As each chapter passed, I fell more and more for the man. By the end he earned his rightful place on my book boyfriend list. He’s almost delicious enough that I wouldn’t have a problem going to Yankee Stadium with him…although I don’t think I could root for the Yankees that might be going a tad too far.
Penelope was such an awesome character. She’s pretty much the opposite of the Stiletto women, which was refreshing and awesome. Penelope and I could be such good friends, she reminded me a lot of myself, although I can’t recite stats the way she can, I’m really passionate about sports. She’s lucky she could find a man that wasn’t intimidated by her knowledge, they are few and far between in the real world. I loved how real she was as well. She didn’t play games and was always upfront about everything except when her feelings started to change, but who would want to risk being upfront at that point anyway.
I loved the way things progressed in this book. I loved seeing all of the characters from the original series again as well. This book was a lot of fun, I had a smile on my face nearly the entire time. I am excited to continue with the Oxford series. I’m intrigued by Jackson in the next book, but what I’m dying to get is Lincoln’s book. He has secrets and I have an idea what part of his secret is and I can’t wait to see if I’m right.

I enjoyed this sweet and sexy little romance story. It wasn't my favorite Lauren Layne book but it was still a very good romance. This book is the first in a brand new series so I was eager to jump in right at the beginning. I understand that this series is a spin off from her Sex, Love, & Stilettos series which I still haven't read. I know, I know, I really need to get that series read as soon as humanly possible. This book may share some characters from the earlier series but this is a great place for new readers to jump in because this book reads perfectly as a stand alone novel.
The characters were wonderful. I really liked both of them a lot. Penelope was a bit insecure about certain things but very confident in others. She was a bit of a tomboy who prefers beer to wine, hotdogs to fancy food, and absolutely loves sports. She is actually a sports writer who is interviewing for a job as the new sports editor at Oxford. There is just one problem....Cole didn't realize that he had any competition for that job. He simply assumed that it was his for the taking. Cole was still amazingly nice to Penelope even though they both wanted the same thing.
The pair are forced to interact with each other in a professional manner but they soon realize that they can't ignore their chemistry. The make a deal with each other and decide to keep it professional Monday through Friday but on the weekends things move to a whole different level. I liked the chemistry between this pair a lot and thought it really worked well in the story. I wanted these two to be together and was glad to pull up a chair and watch it happen.
This was a wonderfully written story. It was a bit predictable but it was so well done that it didn't matter to me. I was glad to see this couple get their happy ending. I think that the biggest strength of this book was the characters. They felt real to me and were well developed. I just loved their banter and how they interacted. I thought the pacing of the story was well done and I really had a hard time putting this one down.
I would highly recommend this book to fans of contemporary romance. I have read several of Lauren Layne's novels and have found her work to be consistently good. I plan to continue to read her new work and make my way through her other books in the very near future.
I received an advance reader edition of this book from Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept via NetGalley.

ARC provided via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I still cannot believe this is my first Lauren Layne book. I want to thank her, the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to have and review this fantastic novel (one of my first ARC’S, yaaaaaaay!).
So, let’s talk about the book. Irresistibly Yours belongs to the Oxford series, which (I discovered) it’s a spin-off of another series of Layne’s called Sex, Love & Stiletto (that, of course, I will read right freaking now!). But this novel tells the story of Cole Sharpe (a ‘very-sexy’ freelance sports editor that is competing for the staff position in Oxford magazine) and Penelope Pope (his competitor and a very sweet woman who, by the end, will fall completely in love with Cole: I mean, who wouldn’t, right?).
What did I love about this book? First, the writing. I normally tend to go for very erotic books or series and this was a very good change for me. Irresistibly Yours has some smokin’ moments but still is not considered erotic. And Lauren Layne is amazing at that. Her writing is very easy to follow, it’s very well written and she gives her readers all types of moments: sweet, tension filled, sexy, dramatic, romantic, etc.
“I will treat you with the respect you deserve at work, and then I will use your sweet body for sex after work, but Penelope Pope, I give you my solemn promise not to fall in love with you.”
Obviously, another aspect that I loved was her characters and their chemistry. Cole and Pen are super cute together and, as you can see, they have this ‘promise’ that, as you can imagine, will be broken ;) I really enjoyed their moments as friends and as a couple, as well as the moments with all the other characters (who I am so excited to read more about!!!).
“Here’s the thing, Tiny. A few months ago, I made you a promise that I wouldn’t fall in love with you.” [...]
“I’m going to have to break that promise.” [...] “I’ve fallen in love with you, Penelope. Yes, that scares the s**t out of me. And yes, it caused me to freak out. But my head’s out of my a** now, and I just, I want… I’m yours, Penelope. If you want me. Irresistibly yours.”
Therefore, my rating for this book is 5 STARS. It was the type of book that I like (it has a little bit of everything) and I really enjoyed Lauren Layne’s writing and characters as well. I liked them that much that now I am directly going to read her Sex, Love & Stiletto series (because I want to read the other’s stories!). Also, I cannot wait for the next story in this series! So, if you are into contemporary romance and you want a sweet and beautiful story, Irresistibly Yours is perfect for you: highly recommended!

Irresistibly Yours (Oxford #1) by Lauren Layne is the first book in her new Oxford Series and oh my, what a gem this was for me!
The Irresistibly Yours storyline is based around Cole and Penelope’s relationship along with a fantastic cast of secondary characters. Now apparently, this series is a spinoff of the Stiletto series, which by the way, I have not read yet but yes, I do have them on my Kindle as we speak. You can bet that I will be backtracking at some point to read that series because these side characters played a crucial part of in this story and let me tell you, there was not one that I didn’t love wholeheartedly:)
OK, I digress, now back to Cole and Penelope, oh my gosh, I can’t even begin to tell you how much I adored these two. Penelope, oh Penelope, yes, serious girl crush going on right here. I am not embarrassed to say that I was totally and utterly in love with this girl and I mean from the get-go. She was a breath of truly fresh air. Penelope was so many things, she was kind, caring, care-free, loving, loyal, just a total and complete down-to earth, beautiful girl deep down to her soul. This girl is the one you want, actually no, you need as your best friend, be it a man or a woman, she is the one girl you want by your side. Now with that being said, my heart literally hurt to hear her feel so insecure and inadequate with herself. She had such low self-esteem at times that my heart was breaking and yet, nobody would have ever guessed it because she put on a heck of a tough front. What I really loved about her character was that although she put up a tough front, she never let it show on the outside, she never let that disguise she that she wore most of the time “ruin” her character like so many stories do. No, even though on the inside she felt that she wasn’t “aesthetically worthy” of someone like Cole she never let it show on the outside and this girl just wowed me every chance that she got. She was one truly amazing woman with a spirit to match.
Cole, oh Cole, this guy was all kinds of beautiful, he was sexy, he was kind and caring, he was simply perfect in my eyes, well, except at one point in the story, now I seriously could have done him bodily harm, lol, for the way he treated Penelope . Cole, from the get-go had me hooked, he was truly a warmhearted soul, deep down he was sensitive and loving and I could go on and on but you get the picture. His relationship with his brother, Bobby, moved me to tears, yes, actual stream down my face tears. I LOVED seeing and hearing about his relationship with Bobby, it added so much to the story and so much depth to his character. I thought the author took a serious and sensitive family matter and made it beautiful and for me, it couldn’t have worked more perfectly into this storyline! This was just another highlight of this story and it was done brilliantly!
Cole and Penelope’s relationship was a beautiful slow-build and it was done with such perfection, such class, such sensitivity, I get goosebumps just thinking about it. I loved this story and all of it’s characters from the beginning until the very end. I loved that it had ALL of the FEELS, one minute I was smiling so hard and the next minute I was getting choked up. I loved that it was a fast read, well, for one, I couldn’t put it down once I started and the storyline flowed so flawlessly and so seamlessly, it was done perfectly. It was also fairly light on drama and angst BUT don’t be fooled because the amount of both that were inserted in the story from time to time was spot on. I was glued to my seat at times, not sure what would happen, I was crying happy tears as well as sad tears, I was totally engaged with characters but could also relate and connect with them too. I honestly felt like I was watching a movie and I was right there in the moment with all of them, “living” their story. I can’t tell you how refreshing it felt to be so engrossed in a story that it made me feel a “part of it," and that is the best feeling in the world as a reader. The storyline had just about everything that I look for and love while reading!
Congrats Lauren Layne on a Grand Slam, this book was beautiful in every single way possible and now I will be anxiously awaiting Lincoln’s story:)

This book was my favorite kind of romance. You know the ones–the girl is really smart and good at her job but unsure about her looks and how beautiful she really is. The guy is a know-it-all who’s handsome and charming and has no trouble getting women to flock to him but for no discernible reason he’s drawn to her…just her. She’s the golden ticket, the one he can’t keep his eyes off and he can’t figure out why, dammit!
We know why, though, right? Because she’s the one.
This is the first novel situated in Stiletto’s brother magazine, Oxford. If you haven’t read the four novels in the Sex and Stilettos series, don’t worry because you’ll be just fine. They’re amazing, though, so you might want to take a gander after this book and read them. They’re funny and steamy and great with the story, just like this one.
I really loved Penelope. Moving from Chicago to New York City was hard, especially without having the safety net of a job. She was determined to get the Sports Editor position at Oxford, though, and had spent plenty of lonely nights in her apartment practicing for her big interview. Meeting her competition, one Cole Sparks, at a baseball game in the magazine’s suite was funny, and she didn’t let it affect her in the least. In fact, it seemed like Cole was more upset about meeting his rival than she was.
Of course, the situation plays out to their mutual benefit, as does their romantic relationship. Drawn to each other because of the incredible chemistry they share, Penelope and Cole are always one step away from taking their casual bantering into flirtation and sexual innuendo. When they just can’t stand it anymore…
Well, you’ll need to read the book to know. It’s delicious and naughty, a feel-good romp from start to finish with a colorful cast of secondary characters that you’ll grow to love and probably want to read about! I did, at least, and have gone back and started rereading the Stiletto books again. Now I’m ready for the next two Oxford books, which should be out shortly. Who’s with me?

REVIEWED BY SUNNY AND EMILY (originally posted on Kindles & Wine Book Blog)
SUNNY: Hey, Emily! Thanks so much for your willingness to do a joint review with me today. Before we get into the details of IRRESISTIBLY YOURS, I want to chat a bit about what got me so excited about this book. I love the women who work at Stiletto magazine, from Lauren Layne’s Sex, Love & Stiletto series, and the amazing group they created as they each let a man into their life and into the group. The fact that so many of the men work for Oxford magazine made this spin-off series a huge draw for me. I am really glad I read the Stiletto series first because I enjoyed what this group brought to IRRESISTIBLY YOURS.
EMILY: Hi, Sunny! Happy to be here with you too! As longtime Kindles & Wine readers know, I am a HUGE fan of Lauren Layne and her Sex, Love & Stiletto series. I love the ladies and how they get along, the fun situations they seem to land in with their articles (and their wacky boss), and of course, the men are delish. Lauren Layne writes awesome heroes! When I realized we get a series now about the Oxford men? Swoon! I’m all in!
Cole Sharpe, the hero in IRRESISTIBLY YOURS, was introduced in the SL&S series. He is a freelance sportswriter trying to get a permanent gig at Oxford. I quite liked Cole and loved the bromance between him and his co-workers. He is a “guy’s guy,” and there is a lot of male ribbing and jokes, but Cole has layers and depth too. I fell for him, and I must know – did you fall for him too?
SUNNY: I fell for Cole hook, line, and sinker! I loved his obsession with sports (I married a guy just like him), but I really enjoyed when he demonstrated his softer side in words and actions. Layne did a wonderful job of developing his issues throughout the book. I enjoyed how he came to grips with his feelings about the most meaningful things in his life, including the relationships most critical to him. Finally, I loved his genuine interest in Penelope.
Penelope Pope got Cole’s interest in the most unique way, and I loved how she was introduced to the story and how she just fit! She is the sweet girl next door, a petite, self-proclaimed tomboy. I loved every aspect of her character except her self-doubt. What was your take on Penelope?
EMILY: I agree, Penelope was a fun character. I loved how Cole saw her, how her dad saw her, how her friends saw her, and really only had issues with how she saw herself (kind of tied to your thoughts about her self-doubt). I enjoyed her streak of stubbornness and how she kept Cole on his toes. Is this a good segue for us to talk about their relationship? Let’s do it!
I quite liked Cole and Penelope together. They totally worked for me. The way they set rules about how they needed to act in public, and then how they broke them, was fun and flirty. There was some normal angst between them, because you can’t have an HEA without some drama in the middle, but I liked how they worked through things and loved their interactions. What did you think about them as a couple?
SUNNY: Wow, it seems as if we are on the same page with our reactions to IRRESISTIBLY YOURS, as I would agree with everything you liked about their relationship. Instead of repeating what you said (because that would just be boring), I will add one thing that I loved about their time together that made the relationship super fun for me—their common interest in sports and where that led. This solidified my love of their relationship. I enjoyed Cole’s amazement of Penelope’s knowledge and interest in sports, but even more how Penelope felt when she realized Cole saw her for more than her love of the game.
Speaking of sports, another reason I enjoyed this book so much was I could picture myself in the story. We are a big sports family, so I could envision sitting in the stadium seats of a baseball field, talking about golf, realizing that not all sports stars have perfect off-the-court/field behavior, and maybe even getting spilled on every now and then, etc. I don’t think you have to be a big sports fan to enjoy the book, but it was a great backdrop for me. What did you think about this aspect of the story?
EMILY: Ummm, yeah, we are SOOO on the same page once again! We are pretty sporty around my house (me much more so in the watching of them than in the doing of them) and I loved all the sport comments and scenes. While I agree you don’t HAVE to love sports to enjoy this book, there was an added layer of fun in it if you do. :)
EMILY’S BOTTOM LINE
I liked most everything about this book – it was a fun and flirty read! If fun and flirty doesn’t grab ya, you should totally read it for the bromance, sporty stuff, and man-banter. (Sigh…I love me some man-banter.) It is a good stand-alone read, but if you’ve read the LS&S series, you are not going to want to miss IRRESISTIBLY YOURS, just to get a glimpse of the whole gang!

IRRESISTIBLY YOURS is a must read for Lauren Layne fans, especially those who have read and enjoyed her LS&S series. Sports fan, you are in for a real treat! If you are neither of those, you will love this wonderfully sweet story of a tomboy cutie and a New York hottie finding their way to a great happily ever after!

4 “Tiny Brunette” Stars
Irresistibly Yours is the first book in Lauren Layne’s new series entitled Oxford. While this book can certainly be read as a stand-alone novel, this Oxford series is a spin-off series from this author’s Sex, Love and Stiletto series. What a fun and sweet sports-themed, romantic comedy!
I have a confession to make. This book also marks my first read by Ms. Layne.
SAY WHAT????
I know. I know. I must have been living under some sort of rock or something. How I have never read anything by this author is a little perplexing – even to me. I will certainly be remedying that and look forward to reading her other books.
On with the review....
Penelope Pope has recently moved to New York City from Chicago. After letting her heart lead her down a humiliating and hurtful path, Penelope is ready to move on with her life and start fresh in a new city. She has applied for a position with Oxford Press as the Senior Sports Editor. Penelope is determined and ready to take on a promising career with such an influential magazine. Cole Sharpe is a freelance sports editor who has worked closely with Oxford for years. He’s certainly the top contender when it comes to the staff position that has recently opened up. What Cole does not count on is the fact that he has some competition for the position and it comes in the form of a pint-sized brunette with big, beautiful brown-eyes and a sweet disposition.
This was definitely an enjoyable friends-to-lovers tale. The pairing of a sweet, down-to-earth, adorable girl-next-door with a cocky lothario has obviously been done before; however, I loved the fact that this author gave us such a wonderful mix of humour, romance and steam with a seamless and flowing writing style. I absolutely loved Penelope. She was hard not to love with her hard-working nature, intelligence and sassy attitude. There was such a sweetness to her that was hard to resist. She was not the typical woman Cole usually was attracted to; but, how could he not fall for the girl when she was such a breath of fresh air? These two endearing characters had me rooting for them right from the beginning.
The fact that Penelope and Cole are vying for the same position does not stop a friendship from forming between the pair. Cole can’t help but be drawn to the sassy brunette who is real and authentic... and who enjoys a great game and a hot dog just like one of the guys. Penelope has learned that her professional life and her love life should not intertwine at all. She has always been one of the guys, a tomboy of sorts, and has resigned herself to the fact that her relationship with Cole will stay strictly in the friend-zone area. But, when Cole lays down the charm there is only so much resistance Penelope can muster up. When circumstances have our two protagonists spending a lot of time with one another, they find that remaining simply friends is hard to do when there’s a sizzling spark ready to ignite.
All in all, Irresistibly Yours was a fun-filled and heart-felt read that has me looking forward to future books in this series. I can’t wait to see the rest of the Oxford boys meet their match!

fact100
I absolutely fell in love with Lauren Layne AGAIN…loved the book and all of the characters. Irresistibly Yours is the love story of Cole and Penelope, or “Tiny,” as Cole refers to her. Cole notices Penelope at a Yankee’s game. She is the opposite of every woman Cole has ever “dated,” and I use that term loosely. He doesn’t really date but not for the usual reason of being afraid of commitment. She’s a petite brunette, not the blond bombshell he usually goes for. As he talks to her, he discovers she is also his chief competition for the job of sports editor at Oxford Magazine, and he really needs the job to care for his brother. Penelope has moved to New York to put her past behind her. As the two get to know each other, they realize they genuinely enjoy each other’s company, but neither of them is interested in a relationship, or so they say. As the two continue to fight their budding feelings and powerful lust for one another, will they be able to stick to their “no relationship” rule?
I loved this book from the very first page. It was filled with lots of sexual chemistry. I just love when a writer builds on that chemistry slowly, and it just makes me hungry for more! I love getting the same butterflies that the characters do. I enjoyed watching Cole and Penelope fall in love slowly, but I enjoyed their friendship and growing trust with each other even more! Both Cole and Penelope had very real characteristics, they were human, flawed, and each had their issues. All those things enabled me to connect with them, and I felt like I was a part of their inner circle of friends. Layne has a way of pulling in secondary characters just enough that I wanted to know their stories but yet didn’t take away from Cole and Penelope. I am really looking forward to Lincoln’s story!
If you are in the mood for a somewhat light, romantic read filled with lots of intelligent and humorous banter, I highly recommend reading this one. I guarantee you won’t regret it! If you are like me, you will finish with a smile on your face, and your heart might feel a little warmer too! I am anxiously awaiting the next novel by Lauren Layne. She has made me a loyal fan for life!

Finally we can delve into the Oxford men, and what a way to begin this series with Cole Sharpe, sports journalist, ladies man and all round nice guy. I have to say that I was more than a little in intrigued by Cole when reading the Stiletto series and I am so glad that Lauren Layne decided to allow us access to these men's inner sanctum, in this new spin off series.
I have raved about the Stiletto series in previous reviews, and you can read Irresistibly Yours as a stand alone very easily, but I really enjoyed meeting up with the old crowd again and their backstories do add to the overall feel of this book so recommend that you start at the beginning of the Love, Sex and Stiletto series. Once again Lauren Layne has brought her flirty, snarky, witty, funny characters to life in this combination of rom-com and chick flick read, which I loved. It is the perfect way to lift my mood and I am never disappointed reading one of this authors books.
Cole has been the freelance sports writer for Oxford for a while now, and has become one of the family that makes up the Stiletto/Oxford Magazine group. He is known around the office as one of the ladies men at Oxford, one of the last standing single guys in their ever-growing friendship group. He is a private person with his own secrets to tell and I thought this part of his story was heartwarming and really made him so personable and likeable. He is, however, a charming, good-looking man, and he knows it. I loved the fact that he owns it without being boorish or obnoxious.
The dilemma he faces now, is securing a full time position at Oxford. When he realises he has competition for the position he thought was his for the taking, he is taken aback. I loved seeing his insecurities surface when he realises that Penelope is his competition and he feels an attraction for her that is out of character. He is a funny guy, charismatic and down to earth and I enjoyed reading his point of view, getting his inside thoughts on each situation. I liked the premise of their relationship and the way he went about wooing Penelope was so sweet. I thought I would love Cole and I really did, even though he had one big hiccup towards the end, he did redeem himself beautifully, with humor and honesty.
Penelope is the tomboy, the only girl in her circle of friends that is a mad sports fanatic, particularly baseball, and she has moved to New York to pursue her dream of being a sportswriter for the top mens interest magazine, Oxford. Penelope was my sort of girl, easy to get along with, no pretenses, no games, she was a take-me-how-you-see-me sort of girl, passionate about her family, passionate about her sports and, when she gives you her heart, passionate about being in love. After moving away from her home town to escape a bad breakup and start again, she moves to the big Apple on her own, determined to put her past behind her and not to give her heart to a man who doesn't return her affection. I really liked Penelope, her no-nonsense demeaner, her innocence and vulnerability, and her maturity. I found her easy to relate to and I made a connection with her straight off the bat.
Irrestistibly Yours is a fun, flirty, sexy friends to lovers story and I enjoyed every page. I loved the injection of sports into the story and even though I know nothing about baseball I didn't feel on the outer. I loved the camaraderie of the guys at Oxford and I absolutely loved catching up with the girls from Stiletto and the way they all took Penelope under their collective wings. I really enjoy this authors brand of humor and how she weaves this into the characters personalities while showing their serious and vulnerable sides. This was a quick read, satisfying and easy to read. Another great addition to the collection and I can't wait to read Lincoln's story.

This woman writes some majorly hilarious sassy books but of all, Stiletto series is my all-time favorite Lauren books, what can I say they were one of the best chick flick books I’ve read till date! It was a complete package of entertainment with swoon-worthy characters, snarky dialogues, loads of bickering and heart fluttering moments. I was more than happy when I heard she’s going to write spin off for this series and with that, we get to see the “stiletto-oxford gang” again!!!
Cole Sharpe-the incredibly charming freelance sportswriter for Oxford magazine loves two things most in the world- baseball and women, well more partial towards the former. But during one of the baseball game he couldn’t take his eyes off this tiny brunette who kept scribbling in her notebook all the while during the game. Curious as to why any woman would be so engrossed in a game that she practically keeps the record of it, plus she’s eating a hotdog?!, that single reason was enough for him to go talk to her and more he spoke to her, more appealing he finds her. While he is completely taken by her unique persona soon this spell breaks when he learns that this baseball-hotdog-beer loving petite brunette is the sole competition for his dream job of senior sports editor at Oxford.
Penelope Pope is what you call a girl next door, she is smart, funny, a tomboy who prefers tennis shoes over heels, ratty oversized tee over glamorous dress and her love for sports is what brought her to New York. She might have gone all gooey inside when Cole approached her but she needs this job as much as he does.
But what happens when these two rivals have to share their dream job? As they work together day in day out they realise how much easy it is to be in each other’s company, no pretence no awkwardness, just a great time with a fellow sports lover. Both are very much attracted to each other but falling in love in not on agenda when they carry tons of baggage of their own.
What I liked about this book was the heroine, not a fashion elite like Lauren’s Stiletto girls but a plain, determined, tomboyish feisty sports lover. Her character was relatable in so many aspects, she was insecure when it comes to her looks yet very passionate about her work. I liked the dynamo between Cole and Penelope, their banters and bickering was so much fun to read. While I enjoyed this book, it failed to ignite the spark between the MC’s towards the end. In every book Lauren adds these magic moments when she reunites her leading characters but this one was just Meh!
If you can overlook that part, Irresistibly Yours is full of laugh out moments and add to it the naughtiness of office romance! Trust me, you cannot resist them *winks*
Now where should I sign up for Lincoln Mathis?? Anyone...??!!

***4.5/5 Stars***
Sexy banter, laugh out loud moments, true friendships, and characters that I adored filled the pages of Irresistibly Yours. Truth be told, I was beyond ecstatic to hear that Cole was getting his own book. But I never would have guessed his future entailed having to fight for his place at Oxford, a national men’s magazine where he freelanced as a sports writer. Nor that he would be up against a tomboy who easily hung with the guys. But what started out as Cole and a tomboy vying for the same job, turned into a story that pulled at my heartstrings. Self worth and a looming responsibility became key ingredients to the feelings that were invoked in me. But as with all of Lauren Layne’s books, I can also always count on the scenes where I can’t stop smiling or laughing, making Irresistibly Yours a fun book to devour!
In case you don’t know who Cole is, let me kindly introduce you to a man who will make you want to curl up with this book while sighing out loud. Cole is a columnist who appeared in the Sex, Love and Stiletto series. He was always memorable whether he was siding with the woman, almost kissing Grace at the baseball game, or joking around with his friends, Jake, Cassidy and Lincoln. He came across as genuine, funny and charming, but that was just the surface. Because Cole was also this thoughtful, sexy, caring man whose good guy status was the real deal. In the beginning, he helped Penelope out when others wouldn’t have. She is vying for the job he wants, so technically he should walk away and let her fail. But Cole being Cole stepped up and took care of Penelope, putting his desires behind hers. And this is just the beginning of the sigh worthy moments that you can expect from Cole throughout the story.
Penelope is a tomboy who is fully immersed in the sports world. She loves watching and writing about sports, but after a glitch in her personal life in Chicago, she is desperate for a new start. And that new start entails moving to a new state and finding a new job which puts her directly in Cole’s path. While I struggled in the beginning connecting to Penelope, I am happy to say that she was smart, easy-going, cheerful and confident in her work. But in regards to her body and sexual experience, she lacked so much self-confidence. She never saw herself worthy of being moved out of the friend zone. We all have those areas of our lives where we will second guess or say something negative about ourselves, but Penelope took it a step further. She would put herself down in front of others and it was torture to me. It hurt that she could be so harsh and mean to herself. I just wanted to shake her and show her how amazing she was. But thankfully Cole was there to step in and do what I desperately wanted to.
The friendship that Cole and Penelope developed over time was not only realistic but oh so sweet. They bonded over their love of sports and found a true friend within each other. But lines can’t always stay black and white, especially when you have a sexy Cole around you making the sexual tension unavoidable. So stuff is bound to happen! And in the midst of them trying to figure out what they truly wanted from the other, so many of the characters that we love from the Sex,Love and Stiletto series stepped in to help! And while I was so excited to see Julie, Emma, Grace and Riley, the friend that shined brightly to me was Lincoln. Or maybe that’s because he constantly charmed me? Well, whatever the reason was, the friendship between Lincoln and Cole was beyond epic and had me laughing hysterically. I now can’t wait for Lincoln’s book down the road! So I can’t wait for you to read this book, or any of Lauren Layne’s other stories if you haven’t read them yet. Enjoy!

Enjoy!

An unputdownable, irresistibly charming, sweet and sassylicious romance. A heartfelt story I ate up while it gave me smile after smile.
For years Cole Sharpe had been happy as a contractor for Oxford men’s magazine. But a stable position as sports editor would help a long way in taking care and supporting his brother. He thought he had the job in the bag, but as it turns out he has stiff competition of the female variety. He should be keeping his eye on the prize and usually a tomboyesk woman wouldn’t distract him, but Penelope has totally taken him by surprise. Can he keep his relationship with the sassy Penelope strictly professional?
“He finally figured out what made her so damn arresting. Penelope Pope was real.”
Penelope Pope knows she’s an excellent sports writer, she can spout statistics and hang with the guys. She’s like one of the boys, but female. When it comes to love though, she’d rather put all men in the friend zone than have her heart broken again. And even though she’s sure Cole is way out of her league and he only sees her as an obstacle between him and the editor position, she’s having trouble resisting his flirty charm. Will she risk her heart on a man who promised never to fall in love with her?
“You don’t have to worry that I’ll get the wrong idea about what this is because I won’t. But in return, you have to promise not to flirt.”
I get giddy every time I see a new Lauren Layne book coming out. She has mastered the art of balancing humor, emotion and angst and I know I’ll love whatever I read when I open a book with her name on it. Her writing flows effortlessly and the sass, chemistry and romance between Cole and Penelope had me smiling and turning page after page well into the wee hours of the night.
“How was it that everything was so simple with her? Even with this push-pull thing they had going on, the sometimes kissing, sometimes arguing, sometimes platonic mess they had on their hands.
I had fallen for Cole long before when I met him in the Sex, Love and Stiletto series and wanted to get to know more of this magnetic, charming and sexy man with hidden vulnerability. It was endearing to see how this very confident man was constantly left baffled by the Tiny, perky baseball fan.
“Kiss me back,” he said against her mouth. “Kiss me back, Penelope. Please.” It was the desperation in his voice that did her in.
Penelope had hoped to get the guy she thought she loved and a job she had been working hard to get but all she got was disappointment. So she decided to uproot herself and move from Chicago to New York for a change in scenery and to fight for an even better job. She never expected to feel such an attraction and connection when she came face to face with her competition.
“We Chicagoens are a bit more openly friendly than you New Yorkers.”
“I’m friendly,” he countered.
Tiny Brunette laughed. “No. You’re just incredibly charming and a smidgen good-looking.”
I liked Penelope instantly. She’s feisty, speaks her mind, she’s sweet and completely genuine. It was lovely to watch her confidence grow.
When Oxford decides to hire them both as co-editors, keeping well defined boundaries becomes impossible. They have so much in common, their relationship as co-workers and friends is incredibly easy and the sexual tension is almost palpable and impossible to ignore. So they reach an agreement to not fall in love with each other and to be lovers only during the weekends. As they spend more time together their hearts decidedly ignore their arrangement and lines get blurred and messy.
I loved watching them fall for one another. Their romance is a perfect match between two people who love sports. And as it happens, I wasn’t the only one that wanted them together. The entire gang from Sex, Love and Stiletto gang are back, and both the guys and the girls put their matchmaking hats on, getting crafty and helping along team Cole+Penelope. I just loved having that girl time, but what was even better was spending time in the boys club with the Oxford men.
“Regardless,” Emma said, “we don’t need a dozen guys to get your mind off this Evan.”
“Nope, just one will do,” Julie said.
I’ve said this before, Lauren Lane has become a fixture in my book collection with the perfect blend between steamy playfulness, sweet affection and romance. I loved the hero and heroine, their story and back and forth. This is a brilliant launch for her new series and I can’t wait for more.
“The thing is, Tiny… When it comes to you, I don’t have to decide. I don’t have to stop and think about if I want to kiss you. I know.”
Irresistibly Yours is the first book in the Oxford series by Lauren Lane. It is a spin-off of her Sex, Love & Stiletto series. It is a standalone, full-length, contemporary romance filled with light sweet, tender moments, lots of fun and sexy times. Told from both points of view, with a happy ending.
Genre: Contemporary Romance.

I thought this was a good start to the new series featuring some of the characters from the Sex, Love & Stiletto series. Even though Cole is featured in the earlier books, we really don't know much about him, other than he appears to be a bit of a womanizer.
Luckily we get to really know him and learn that there is more to Cole than he lets on. We learn early in the story exactly what his motivation is for wanting the job so badly. What I really liked is that while Cole may come across as sophisticated, and urbane with deep pockets, his life is pretty realistic, especially when he describes his particular living situation since his money is allocated for a different, and perhaps, a more important purpose.
He still doesn't quite understand why he's so willing to help Penelope, especially once he discovers she's his rival for the same job.
Penelope is the type of woman who has realized that she will be forever relegated to the friend zone when it comes to men. I won't say that she's down on herself, but she does seem insecure when it comes to how she feels about her physical attributes. I do wish we could have learned a bit more on exactly what happened that caused her to feel that way about herself. And while she might harbor feelings about Cole, she refuses to act on them, since the last time that happened it all blew up in her face.
As these things happen in books, the more time they spend together, the more feelings begin to change, although neither one of them wants to admit it, either to themselves or to each other, especially with the pact they've made.
Cole even goes so far as to help Penelope when the reason she left Chicago makes an appearance in New York and starts spouting out all types of craptastic bullpuckey. The way that whole scene was written, you weren't sure what direction the story was going to take, but I liked the resolution of that situation. And we do get the requisite break up that occurs, but to me, what this particular break up different is that Cole acknowledged that he knew he was acting like an ass, but given the circumstances and changes that happened recently, he feels like his focus has changed and he hasn't learned that he can indeed live with the changes that are occurring. Penelope even tells him that he's allowed to have both halves of his life without sacrificing one for the other, but Cole isn't ready to hear it.
There were plenty of laugh out loud moments in this story, but when Cole was having his heart-to-heart with Lincoln, and Lincoln's reaction? I CANNOT wait to read that book.

I’ve enjoyed titles I’ve read from Lauren Layne, so this was an opportunity too good to pass up. In the companion series to Sex, Love and Stiletto, we are delving into the world of Oxford, a men’s magazine. We’ve met Cole in the other series, and I have to say that I wasn’t a huge fan of what I had seen. He’s a freelancer with a bit of a chip on his shoulder and a history of playing fast and loose with the women in his life. But, we only had some of his advice (bad) and quick pencil sketches of the man.
Oxford wants to expand their sports section, everyone else can have their format dedicated to style and relationships, but sports will set them apart. To do this, they need an editor, and Cole, a long-time writer for the magazine, assumes the job is his. Until he discovers competition in the form of a pint-sized brunette with editing and writing skills, and the ability to be more than just the ‘color’ on a sport story. Penelope is from Chicago with a solid history, even obsession, with all things sport. A tomboy, she is the epitome of ‘one of the boys’ and Cole isn’t quite sure how to handle the competition.
These two have some wonderful interactions, in which Cole is completely redefining how he relates to women, because Penelope isn’t about to fall for his tried and trues. She’s not a game player, in fact, she has a disarming honest approach to all of her relationships, and Cole finds that intriguing and exciting. Of course, since he’s a boy, he screws up often, but Penelope is also truly kind hearted and a good friend, she never lets things get too out of hand. But their relationship is cute and sweet, and feels solidly natural, even as I wished Cole had to work a bit harder before getting what he finally realized he wanted.
You can read this as a newcomer, but you will find characters from Stiletto appearing and having some influence on this story: the two magazines are in friendly rivalry, and friendships and relationships between the two are evident and apparent throughout the stories.
I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

After losing a job and getting her heart broken in on fell swoop, sports journalist Penelope Pope moves from the Windy City to the Big Apple in search of a new start. First thing up is interviewing for a position at Oxford magazine. Penelope is used to usually being the only woman in a male dominated field so working with the men at Oxford should be a piece of cake. That is, until she meets Cole Sharpe, her competition for the job.
Cole is not happy when he learns that he actually has to interview for the position of sports editor at Oxford. He figures the job is in the bag, until he meets Penelope Pope, suddenly feels like the job might not be such a sure thing. Typically this would cause him to fight tooth and nail for the job, but he's immediately drawn to Penelope. He also begrudgingly concedes that Penelope would do really great in the job too. Could there be more between them? Or is the competition just too stiff?
You do not have to read Lauren Layne's Stiletto series (of which Oxford is a spin-off) in order to enjoy this story. However, there is a warning: reading Irresistibly Yours will make you want to go back a read all about the couples you meet here. Lauren Layne does great in teasing information regarding the other couples and how they got together. Not enough to ruin their stories, but just enough to whet your appetite.
This is a good thing, however, because this is Cole and Penelope's story after all.
I loved Penelope's just plain old good-heartedness. She's had some not great things happen to her recently, and overall she has a lot of self esteem issues, but she doesn't let these things bring a pall over her personality. If anything, her experiences have made her extra cautious, especially once Cole walks onto the scene and she's immediately attracted to him.
For his part, Cole has never really thought about getting serious with anyone. This is extremely true for someone who could potentially take a job away from him, but he can't help himself when it comes to Penelope. She's the complete opposite of what he typically goes for in a woman, but the heart wants what the heart wants. Even though Cole may have feigned to put up a fight, where his attraction to Penelope was concerned, he obviously didn't try too hard. I loved that when she would sort of push him away (in order to protect herself from heartbreak), he didn't give up easily. It made the progression of their relationship seem really natural and not overly concocted.
This is my first book by Lauren Layne, but it will not be my last for sure. I love a good office romance story, and I was happily surprised by the sweet romance between Cole and Penelope. Lauren Layne definitely delivers with this one.

Lauren Layne has quickly become one of those authors for me that I won’t hesitate to read because I know she’ll give me a book I won’t be disappointed with. She does a fantastic job of infusing humor, wit, and lots of sexiness into her books, all of which I’m a fan of. Irresistibly Yours is no different in that it’s a wholeheartedly enjoyable read. This is the first book in the brand new Oxford seres, the spinoff of the Sex, Love, and Stiletto series.
What I love most about Irresistibly Yours is how it’s got a mix of romance elements incorporated into it. Office romance, sports themed, rivalry, opposites attract, friends-to-lovers – Lauren Layne manages to balance all of these so well to create an incredible book I adored so much!
Cole Sharpe is a freelancer for the Oxford magazine, but there’s the open spot of sports editor that’s calling his name. Unfortunately, even with his inside connection, he’s got competition for the position – competition in the form of a small, tomboyish, adorable-as-hell woman named Penelope Pope.
What starts off as a competition and rivalry soon turns into something friendlier and more charming – Cole and Penelope both feel some chemistry between them, but they put their feelings aside in order to work together at Oxford. Penelope has moved to New York for a fresh start, and Cole has become her very first friend, though he’s the sexiest man she’s ever met. Penelope knows the gorgeous playboy is totally out of her league, and puts herself firmly in the friendzone. Cole, however, is completely taken aback by this incredible woman who is his equal in every way. Never has a woman meant as much as Penelope does to him. They share an incredible love for sports, they’re around each other at the office every day, but before long, neither of them can fight the attraction they try to hide.
You’re really in for a treat when you pick up a book by Lauren Layne. Equal parts sexy, sweet, and hilarious, Irresistibly Yours is a fun-filled read you won’t be disappointed in. Cole and Penelope are wonderful, endearing characters, and I rooted for them right from the very start. And I absolutely loved their group of friends at Oxford, who had me laughing so hard. I haven’t read the Sex, Love, and Stiletto series, whose characters are also in Irresistibly Yours, but now I’m thinking I should – which means more Lauren Layne for me! I highly recommend any of this author’s books for those who love funny, light-hearted romances. You are missing out if you haven’t tried her books!

I absolutely, big puffy heart, LOVE Lauren Layne! She has become one of my automatic go-to authors whenever I am in need of my next book hangover. Her characters and stories are blended with the perfect balance of realism, laugh-out-loud humor, heartbreaking emotion, and scorching hot chemistry! Her latest, Irresistibly Yours, definitely did not disappoint in any of those departments!
We meet Cole and Penelope, both competing for the prestigious position of Sports Editor for the popular men's magazine, Oxford, and both desperately needing to get the job for very different reasons.
Penelope has recently moved to New York from Chicago looking for a fresh start. Her former best-guy-friend and unrequited love, Evan, not only stepped all over her toes by swooping in and taking the last job she was in line for from right under her nose, but he led her on for months by not telling her he had a girlfriend and letting her believe he might be interested in her as more. She has always been the cute tomboy that guys want as a friend, but not as a girlfriend, and feeling defeated and insecure, she wonders if she will ever meet someone who sees her any other way.
Cole is tall, drop dead gorgeous, and used to women throwing themselves at him. Although he usually goes for voluptuous blondes, he finds himself drawn to tiny Penelope. She's not his usual type, but she is honest and real, and feeling overwhelmed by his family responsibilities, Cole can really use someone like that in his life right now.
So, even though they are competitors, a friendship blossoms between Penelope and Cole and I hung on EVERY.SINGLE.WORD! I absolutely loved their back and forth banter. I loved how down-to-earth they were together and how naturally their relationship progressed. I loved that their conflicts were heartbreaking enough to make me really FEEL for both of them, but not too angsty or over-the-top.
All together, this book was perfection for me. Once I started it, I couldn't put it down. Although its a stand-alone, we get a good glimpse at the main male lead in the next book of the series, Lincoln, and I have to say that I am waiting on pins and needles for his story. I can't wait!

Another hit by author Lauren Layne. Entertaining, romantic and a little steamy at times, Irresistibly Yours surprised me.
The Stiletto series is where I first met Cole, and to be completely honest, I didn’t really think much of him. I’m not a fan of womanizers and players, and Cole was described as exactly that kind of man in that book. However, I'm glad I took a chance on this new series, because I truly enjoyed this book and I completely changed my opinion of Cole.
Okay, he’s not boyfriend material at first, but seeing the big heart underneath the sexy, tailored suit was enough to make me change my mind about him. He’s freaking adorable!
Now, Penelope. I think she’s one of the few female characters I wished were real so we could be best friends. She’s hilarious, and her girl-next-door looks and attitude helped to make her even more real and relatable. From the moment she enters the story, I was rooting for her happily-ever-after, cheering her on and keeping my fingers crossed for her.
I enjoyed Cole and Penelope’s banter tremendously. I think this is absolutely the best thing about this book: the way they’re so at ease with each other from the very beginning. Sure, the romantic part is also fantastic, and the couple of detailed sex scenes are hot, but the parts I enjoyed the most were those of their easy-going banter and when they hung out together, eating pizza and watching baseball.
I loved the interactions between Cole and his brother Bobby, as well as Penelope’s. There was a new side of Cole coming through and it was one more thing that brought him a little higher in my chart of book boyfriends.
My one complaint, even though is just a small one, was the way things were resolved at the end. I can’t say much or I’ll spoil it all for the readers, but I found it was a little too easy. I would’ve loved to see Cole work a little bit more for it.
Anyway, apart from this personal preference of mine, I would definitely recommend you pick up a copy of this book.
If you’ve read the previous books of the sister series this is a must read, but it definitely works well as a standalone. Fans of Lauren Layne will not be disappointed by this new series.

Lauren Layne has authored another fun and cosmopolitan novel with Irresistibly Yours, the first book in her brand new Oxford series. It is an engaging read, complete with an entertaining plot, well-defined characters and hot, sexy times. This book and series are a spin-off from Ms. Layne's highly successful Sex, Love & Stiletto quadrilogy, and it can be enjoyed as a standalone. The gentlemen that work at Oxford, the hippest men's magazine in the country, are smart, gorgeous and sexy. This book focuses on the many facets of sports editor Cole Sharpe. Cole is intelligent, good-looking, and tends to be allergic to any kind of romantic commitment.
Due to the increasing costs of Cole's older brother's group home, Cole has decided to forego his freelance writing career and interview for the newly established permanent position of sports editor at the magazine. He believes the new job is in the bag, because his work is excellent, he has a solid reputation, and the managing editor is one of his closet friends. Needless to say, he is shocked to learn that he is not the only interviewee. Penelope Pope, a petite brunette from Chicago, is his competition. She is attractive, completely qualified, and a true sports aficionado. In the end, both Cole and Penelope are hired.
Co-editors equates to spending a lot of time together, which evolves into a kiss or two, and ultimately, a full blown friends with benefits relationship. Even though Penelope is not Cole's usual cup of tea, he cannot resist her. Penelope does not have a lot of sexual experience and Cole is more than happy to show her a thing or two. They have chemistry both in and out of the bedroom.
Irresistibly Yours is well-written and the camaraderie between Cole and his friends is replete with clever banter and amusement. A few of the scenes had me laughing out loud, while others just left me grinning from ear to ear. This book is the perfect combination of friendship, desire, and discovery. I loved the way Ms. Layne reintroduced the women from the Stiletto series and incorporated them into the spin-off. Overall, this is a terrific, light-hearted read that should definitely be added to your TBR list.
