Fast Connection was another huge hit for me, and I love what Megan Erickson and Santino Hassell have been doing with this series. The book was a well-written and fast-paced book, with developed characters and an engaging story.

I read this in one sitting, that was how much I enjoyed it. I could not put it down, staying up past my bedtime so I could see what happened between Dominic and Luke. Their story was so great, and it kept me hooked without unnecessary drama or twists. It was all very down to earth and believable, which only made me connect even more to the characters and their stories.

Dominic was actually a bit of a surprise for me! I didn’t like him much in Strong Signal, but my opinion of him changed so much when reading this book and his POV chapters. He really grew on me as I got to know his story, and he was actually my favorite character from this book. :D

Luke was also a great character, and he changed a lot throughout the book. That was one of my favorite parts, seeing him go from someone who thought he couldn’t have a relationship to someone who opened himself up to love and everything. And the side characters also added a lot to the story, and each had their own things going on.

The romance between Dominic and Luke was!!!! So good!!!!!! It was filled with its ups and downs, but both of them tried to be very open with each other. They were supportive and aware they had issues, and they did their best to apologize for their mistakes and communicate with each other to try and make things better. I loved the dynamic between them, and it was very well written.

I’m sure whatever Megan Erickson and Santino Hassell decide to work in the future will be just as delightful as this series was. I know that I will pick up anything else they put out there, and if you’re a fan of well-developed romance stories with layered characters and funny dialogue you should too!

Fast Connection is the second book in Megan Erickson and Santino Hassell's Cyberlove series, about finding love via technology - dating apps, gaming sites, social media etc. We first met Dominic in Strong Signal (book 1 in the series and easily read as a standalone) as a secondary character, a military teammate of Garrett's who came across as, well, kind of a jerk. He and Garrett had been hooking up (in secret, as Dominic was clear that he was just having fun, and not really gay) and when Garrett rejected him, Dominic didn't take it well. But fast forward to now, and they are safely home. After his experiences in the army, Dominic has come to the realization that he is bisexual. He is under a lot of stress living with his parents again, working for his father at the family deli - it's a job he doesn't want but he's stuck trying to figure out what to do with his life. In an effort to relieve some of that stress, he decides to find a hookup on a dating app and catches the eye of Luke. Luke is an older guy, divorced with two teenagers and also bisexual. He has a good relationship with his ex-wife and when she's got the kids for a weekend, it's his chance to let loose and enjoy himself for a few hours. He's not looking for a relationship, just some easy, fun times. Luke and Dominic set the sheets on fire in their first encounter, but when Luke shoves Dominic out the door, it's his intention never to see him again. He doesn't do repeats. But when he can't get Dominic out of his head, and Dominic shows up ready for another round, things get complicated. Can this mismatched pair fill in the missing pieces for each other?

Once again this author duo has dished up a delectable sexy romance with a lot of heart. Plus, they've managed to redeem Dominic's character from his initial introduction to readers in Strong Signal, by showing the other sides to his character than just the arrogant and somewhat entitled man we saw before. Dominic in fact knows that he didn't treat Garrett well, and in this story, he's already made amends with Garrett. The fact that he's decided he's bisexual is a big deal for him, and something he is still dealing with. He comes across as a man who puts family loyalty very high on his list, even if he feels that sometimes they don't deserve it. He's concerned about his sister who is living with him and his parents, and in particular her fractious relationship with their parents. Dominic's father has a lot of stress related anger management issues and even though he constantly is belittling Dominic (he doesn't think much of his stint in the army), it doesn't stop Dominic from trying to find ways to help the business improve. On the surface Dominic might appear as a player, but in reality he has a good heart. In his awkward determination to 'get some' , his initial texting interactions with Luke are quite funny, and when they get together in person, he comes across a little bit vulnerable but brave too - he wants things to be good with Luke and to acquit himself well in the bedroom, especially since it's his first time really hooking up with a guy. I really felt for him, in his determination to figure out a way to make things better for himself and his family, and in figuring out his own sexual and relationship needs.

Luke is also an interesting character. Though he'd been married to a woman, his current interest is all men. He had the unfortunate situation of being discharged from the military when caught in a compromising position with another man under the 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' policy, a man who then caused him a lot of problems outside of the army. He doesn't trust others easily, and so one night stands are his thing now. He's particularly concerned for his children's safety even though they are teenagers, and is determined to keep his personal life and his hookups very separate. Dominic is a refreshing surprise for him. Their night together is so good that Luke can't stop thinking about him and as a result he's unable to resist seeing him again. The problem comes in the fact that they are both living in the same neighbourhood and are bound to run into each other. And when they do - well, suffice it to say that the second half of the story is all about the consequences of their growing feelings for each other and the reality of their family situations.

There is a lot to love about this story - the combination of an emotionally charged romance with some very sexy scenes, and characters that deserve to be happy make it hard to put down once you start. Family relationships play a key role, and make it clear that relationships don't happen in a vacuum - they will always be influenced by those around us. I really enjoyed how the whole story played out and there are lots of laughs to go along with the more serious moments. This series is really a delight to read, and I look forward to more!

In Fast Connection, authors Megan Erickson and Santino Hassell return to the Cyberlove world first introduced in Strong Signal (Garrett/Kai) back in February 2016. Like it’s predecessor, Fast Connection deals with not only meeting in the Cyber world, but also coming home from military service and trying to build a new life, and it packs one hell of a romance punch. So much so that this book was an absolute delight to read and impossible to put down.

As I’ve said before, I am not a huge reader of m/m romance. I mostly stick with authors I know or books that have been recommended to me by a trusted friend, but I’ve been a fan of Megan Erickson for years and since I trust her as an author, I signed up to read and review Strong Signal and immediately fell in love with Garrett and Kai. And it’s because of the amazing reading experience of that book that I signed up to read and review this book, and let me just say, Fast Connection, its two mega-talented authors, and its characters, Dominic and Luke, did not let me down. If anything, Erickson and Hassell further ignited a serious love of their m/m stories and the beautiful relationship that develops between two amazingly flawed and complicated men.

Dominic is doing his best to deal with returning to civilian life and figuring out what he wants to do now that he’s out of the military. He’s also determined to hook up with a guy, both for the sex as much as for the companionship and distraction it provides him. Luke isn’t a relationship guy, by any means, and the last thing he wants is a hookup becoming more, and yet, with Dominic, he finds it impossible to stay away. So much so, he breaks his own rules for him.

Dominic isn’t the same cocky guy he we met in the first book. Instead, he’s uncertain, insecure, and so damn lost you can’t help but want to hug the guy and tell him everything will be alright. And Luke, man, he’s a grumpy guy, who likes simple routines and no string hookups. He wasn’t expecting a guy like Dominic to come into his life, but once he does, he breaks through some of Luke’s iron-clad control, making the burden of Luke’s past a little lighter to bear.

Fast Connection is a stunning, multi-layered romance with two incredible male leads who will make you laugh as well as break your heart. It’s raw and real and so utterly brilliant, I couldn’t help but want to read it all over again once I finished.

I generally enjoyed this, but I have a surprising number of negative comments about it. How does that happen?

Dominic's personality seemed to have shifted a bit between his appearance in the last book, Strong Signal and now. The inconsistency bothered me at first. However, I did really like him as a character. In fact, I liked all the characters. I though Luke was a good toppy-top grump-face, the teenagers believable, and the ex real. I very much appreciated seeing a failed relationship that remained cordial and a female past love-interest who wasn't a harpy.

I did think that Dominic's parents were a little over the top, especially since there seemed to be a miraculous change in disposition that led to the happy ending. Much like I thought the change in Luke in the beginning, allowed the relationship to progress. These changes were necessary, but I thought a little unfounded.

The sex was hot. There too I have a "but," though. I thought there was too much of it for the length of the book. It cluttered the plot up a bit. I did appreciate that the plot dealt with real life issues like family stressors, veterans' transitions, split families and relationships, etc.

All in all, I love Hassell and Erickson as a writing team and I liked these characters and the plot. But I thought the book felt rushed and the online sections of it, as well as the discussion of the importance of it, felt like repeats from book one. Though, to be fair this idea that relationships that develop over social media are real and important to people, but often dismissed, is the theme of the series. Either way, I'll keep picking them up as long as E & H keep writing them. They don't have to be perfect for me to want more.

Note: I won an e-copy of this book.

I have been looking forward to this books since I finished Strong Signal. Dominic is a fun character - I think mostly because he's kind of unpredictable, but also because he has an ability to hide hurts and offenses against him. He's struggling with what to do with his life now, without the military while also coming to grips with having admitted his sexuality to himself. It's not all good times and happiness to be home with his family, but Dominic is trying to figure it all out.

Luke has known his true self for years, but after muddling through reaching acceptance of that knowledge, he's made a few mistakes and had bad things happen, shading his decisions to not attempt relationships beyond that of what he has with his ex-wife and his children. But Luke has it in him to want one man, to love one man, he just doesn't realize it until that man steps into his life.

It was supposed to be anonymous, supposed to be a one time thing, just a hook up to let loose for a night and fulfill a need, the same sort of thing he's done before. But there's nothing about this encounter that fits those perimeters. Luke and Dominic find that they can't stay away - and there is so much more to connect them then one swipe of an app.

Fast Connection delivers another great tale of two strong guys fighting against their feelings, holding back from getting hurt, and eventually losing that battle. There are misunderstandings to work through, theirs family issues to manage, and ultimately it boils down to moving on from the past and opening yourself up again. Opening up to happiness, to finding the other half of you.

We get to see a few glimpses into past characters lives too and how they intersect into this book added a little extra drama and proved how the world really can be small and the people we meet can have a significant impact on us in unexpected ways.

Megan and Santino did a fabulous job of writing these two characters, sucking you into their stories and digging deep into them. From scenes that will make you laugh, to those that will touch your heart, from wanting to smack some sense into one of them, to wanting to hug the hurt away, this book will bring out all the emotions. You will be rooting for these two to figure it out and admit what those around them have figured out, that their connection is one worth growing and keeping.

Sometimes everything in a book just works and that's the case in Fast Connection by Megan Erickson and Santino Hassell. From the way these two met, to the way they fell into a relationship, to the complications of life and family, to the emotional and wonderful ending that brought tears to my eyes I loved every single minute of this book.

Since leaving the service Dominic Costigan is trying to figure out his life; two things he knows for sure, he has to get out of his parent's house and out of the deli they own that he's now working in. Feeling like he needs something else in his life and on the advice of his ex-Army hook-up Dominic explores Grindr and finds Luke Rawlings. Luke's got a lot on his plate; he owns his own landscaping business and shares custody of his teenage twins with his ex-wife whom he has an excellent relationship with and while he enjoys hook-ups he no longer does relationships and then Dominic comes busting into his life.

From their very first interaction I knew this book was going to be fun and sexy but I had no idea how special it would be. These two men were at very different places in their lives; Dominic is floundering and Luke is very settled in his life. Dominic is fun and light and Luke is serious and dark. The first few times they are together Luke is so stoic and cold, but Dominic has a way of getting under his skin and things begin to change for them. While their intimate moments were intense and sexy beyond belief; it was their banter both on Grindr and face to face that made this book stand out.

Despite the up and downs and the family situations that kept interfering into their relationship; they manage to keep finding their way back to one another because their connection is just so strong that when apart they feel lost, alone and miserable.

I loved everything about Fast Connection; I loved the way these two men worked hard to make their relationship work, blend their families, and most of all gave each other the love and support they both needed and deserved. This was a perfect romance deserving of way more than 5 stars.

I absolutely loved Fast Connection. There will be gushing in this review. I'll start out by saying WOW, this book had all the feels for me.

Dominc Costigan is introduced in Strong Signal. He was a bit of a loudmouth jerk in SS, and he didn't quite impress me, so I wasn't sure how I'd like a book devoted to his HEA. I certainly didn't expect to be falling for him after his first contact with Luke. There's a sense of humor to him that is just endearing and a very wide streak of honor that made me melt.

On the other hand, Luke was a little harder to warm up to. I liked that about him. His need to protect the ones he loves really did it for me with him. I liked that he was a little seasoned in the relationship department and yet he still had some growing to do as evidenced by a couple of crappy things he does to Dominic along the way.

But the pull between these two men is so strong, they will have to figure it out or be lonely, and that was a really tough part of this story that had me reaching for the tissues. Strong secondary characters consisting of Luke and Dominic's family members help provide some real conflict too.

I loved the family theme in Dominic and Luke's story. It had me sometimes frustrated, but eventually it left me smiling, especially with the sweet ending that takes the sting of the harder moments away.

What really, really worked for me was the writing. There's some magic going on here between these two authors. Their characters are spot on -- I feel like they jump off the page and I can feel what they are feeling. I found the writing to be smooth and really lovely in terms of emotional content. Fast Connection flowed just right for me and I was so sucked into this story I was finished the same day I started it. (yeah, I paid for that one at work the next day but it was worth it!)

Recommended. 5 big beautiful stars.

This is my first read in the Cyberlove Series, so I had no opinion of Dominic/Nicky coming into it (he was a secondary character in the first book/standalone.) Funny enough he came off a little on the cheesy side to me (with his humor and he just seemed younger than what he actually was) but I think some of that is because he is lost. After 8 years in the service he's back to where he probably would have been in life if it had never entered the service; living in his parent's basement working at the bagel shop his family owns and operates. He's really struggling to find his place in life. He discovered he's bisexual in the service and this read finds him learning the ropes of Grindr, a dating app for males. Enter Luke, a grumpy, bisexual, former military, dad of 2, looking for meaningless hookups and one night stands. The impact each of these men have on each other's lives and personalities is the core of what made this book good. Don't get me wrong, the sex was HOT, but the real story was how they both were the missing piece to what each was searching for. Good read, I'm interested in reading book 1 now!

Well they've done it again!! Megan and Santino have given me all the feels and made my heart so happy. They are electric as a writing duo. Absolutely amazing!

27 year old Dominic Costigan has just returned to his family's home after leaving the Army. He doesn't really know what he wants to do with his life, and he is working at his family's deli while figuring out what his new career path should be. Having just recently started exploring his bisexuality, Dominic goes searching on Grindr. Enter Luke Rawlings. It was just supposed to be another one time Grindr hookup for 39 year old single dad Luke. What he got was Dominic--with his pretty boy smile and larger than life attitude--waltzing into his life and tilting his whole world around. Luke was drawn to him from the get-go, but having had a bad dating experience in the past he was very hesitant to let Dominic mix into his life with his 16 year old twins. Dominic slowly but surely melted the icy walls around Luke's heart, and tempted him to take a chance on love.

This book was absolutely fantastic. It had heart, it had heat (Whew. So. Much. Heat!!), and the real life every day issues that I'm sure many can relate to. That's one thing I love about their writing style. They keep it real and relatable. This book sucked me in from the start, and I was so so sad to turn the last page. I wish it didn't have to end, but Megan and Santino rocked this book so hard!! I'm a fan for life!!

One thing that I have learned from reading both of these authors individual works and those they have co-authored, is that I love them. Both of them, in their own right, are fantastic freaking authors. Then, when they come together...BOOM!

So, Fast Connection is about Dominic Costigan. We meet him in the first of this series, and, if you are like me, he was not my favorite. However, in this book you get to know him better and IMO, you cannot help but fall in love with this kid. I mean it, he's just a good guy, trying to figure out his life. Who he is, who he wants to be, and who he wants to be with. He's out of the military and living back at home, working with his father so he's feeling all blah. So what better way to meet someone? Post an Ab pic on Grindr!

And then we meet Luke. Single Dad, broody, ex-military sexy silver fox **insert swoon heart eyes** He does NOT want a relationship, but he most certainly did not see Dominic coming. Quite literally, Dominic just makes himself irresistible in almost every since of the word. Slowly he ingrains himself into Luke's world, breaking down the walls he has built to protect himself and his family.

I loved this book, possibly more so than Strong Signal. The chemistry between these two was off the charts and I loved them together. I absolutely cannot wait to see what is to come next in this series!!

Another hit by these two authors. Dominic and Luke just did it for me. I really felt for Dominic and how lost he felt. Coming home after fighting for our country and trying to figure out what to do next. I thought the authors created a character who was very easy to relate too. But oh boy, did his dad frustrate me to no end. Luke was also very well written. A man with teenage kids who kept his sex life restricted to when the kids were with their mom. I understand his reasoning for doing this, for not wanting to let his kids know about people he wasn't serious about. I thought Dominic and Luke were great compliments to each other. The trials and bumps in their relationship were very believable and didn't feel contrived. The sexy times were HAWT and I really liked how the authors wrote them. This story made me laugh, and tear up a little which is the sign of a perfect story. This a amazing story with wonderful characters.

This genre is quickly becoming a favorite. And this author combination is like the superstars of M/M.
It took all of 1 chapter before I was completely sucked into this story.
Dominic is an ordinary guy. He's also a Vet and he's dealing with things that alot of vets deal with after discharge. He's also sweet and charming and a bit of a clown. And even though they make him crazy, Dominick loves his family.
Luke and his grumpiness made me giggle more than once. Add in his teenage children and there are plenty of laugh out loud moments.
The chemistry between Luke and Dominick is smoking hot.
This book captured my attention and held me hostage until the very last word.
The dialogue is smart and funny. Sweet and witty. The lovin' hot and steamy.
There's angst and warm fuzzys. There's also a lesson about reaching out for the things you want.
This book is amazing!

This storyline was wonderful. I loved the characters and their individual life situations. Dominic is a guy that is readjusting to life out of the service. He doesn’t really have a life plan in place. His upbringing was not the best, but deep down his family loves each other. Luke had a relationship go bad and has decided that he is not willing to go down that road again, so one night stands are his specialty. Until Dominic. I love the way these two families are intertwined. Their story provides just the right amount of drama to pull you in and keep you reading. I love how their story played out. These two characters were well developed and the storyline flowed effortlessly. No lagging in this book. You will be hooked from the start.

First thing I realized when I started reading this book was that Luke was an asshole and I didn't like his guts. Then it got easier.

I loved the plot, it was really interesting and it made it almost impossible to stop reading. Life of Costigan family surely isn't easy but I liked how the story ended with a big fat HEA and everyone happy. I definitely liked Dominic. He is a little bit immature and very insecure and tbh I wouldn't choose Luke for him, but oh, well.... they clicked so who am I to judge them?

I absolutely adored idea of Adriana and Micah plus Luke and Nicky. It was complicated AF but also made it more interesting.
I think it is safe to admit I love this series already and I can't wait for a book #3 :)

Megan Erickson and Santino Hassell have written another winner that I couldn't put down. Fast Connection is perfect and that's saying a lot because I absolutely loved book one of this series, Strong Signal.

The attraction between Dominic and Luke was electric. Their character development had just the right mix of angst and humor that had me hanging on to every word.

I love love loved Fast Connection and am giving it 5 perfect drool-worthy stars!

There is absolutely nothing I would change about this book. After reading the first book I didn't expect to like Costigan at all, he's so different in the first book. But thats explained, and it makes sense. Both he and Luke are great characters, and were really fun to read about. I love the writing style so much! This really was a great read.

SEXY, EMOTIONAL, AND WELL WRITTEN!

I absolutely LOVED Strong Signal, BUT I think Fast Connection just slipped into my favorite for this series! Dominic and Luke are just AMAZING, STRONG, LOVING characters. After reading Kai and Garrett's book I was intrigued by Staff SGT Costigan and I was so happy to see he got his own book! The story line was so good, and I loved the writing. These two authors make an amazing team.

If you are looking for a fun, emotional, M/M book, I HIGHLY suggest picking this one up! I Loved it! Can't wait to start the next book in this series Hard Wired!

Loved the characters and the issues. Dominic struggles to figure out what he wants to do, who he wants to be, and how he deals with his family. As the story unfolds we see others struggling with their issues as well. Kept reading to see what happened next and enjoyed that it wasn't always what I expected.

Fast Connection is an apt title. I certainly had one with this book and with Dominic Costigan. Which is surprising, considering he wasn't necessarily shown in the best light in Strong Signal, the first book in this series by two of my favorite authors.

I really enjoyed this read. Like, really. No, no… REALLY. It had a touch of sorrow to it, as Dominic struggled to reconcile his life now he's no longer in the military. And while that was felt in his words, his struggles, it never overtook the rest of the story—a story which was smart, funny, tense and basically unputdownable. Oh, and sexy. Let's not forget sexy…

I loved the dynamic between Dominic and Luke, the silver fox who wanted one-night-only and got far more than he bargained for. I did, at times, struggle a little with the almost-parental nature of Luke’s caring for Dominic, it all came together in a way that…just made sense.

It just made sense.

I really don't know how to describe it better than that. Dominic was struggling, and in his own way, so was his silver fox. It made the relationship feel equal, even when sometimes, they weren't—whether in family, employment, affection or other. They each gave the other something that was missing, and it was a beautiful, touching, and yeah, sexy thing. (I really want to make sure you don't forget that Fast Connection is super hot. Thigh clenching. Panty melting. Okay?)

This writing duo just have a gift for that type of writing—the type which speaks to your heart, connects you with their characters in a very real way, and makes you smile and frown and love and hurt with them as they navigate the minefield that is love.

It’s a style of writing (and a pair of authors) I want to read more of. And with some revelations about side characters from book one—which also meant getting to see Kai and Garrett again! YAY!—I'm hoping that means Megan Erickson and Santino Hassell will be connecting to bring us more in the Cyberlove series. And FAST. ~ Beth, 4.5 stars

Fast Connection is one of my favorite books of the year. I discovered this 4 book (so far?) series last week and was able to get all the audiobooks from my library. I enjoyed book one. I was apprehensive about the idjit-ex from book one being the hero of this 2nd story but no worries, fellow readers! It’s my favorite of the series. I just listened to it again and bought it so I don’t have to wait out library holds for my next reread.

Staff Seargent Dominic has grown up too much while in the Army to fit in with his old life. But he hasn’t figured out anything about his new civilian life aside from not wanting to kill any more people and thinking that sleeping with men is something he’d like to try more of. He’s frustrated and lost.

Landscaper Luke is holding it together by keeping all aspects of his life as separate as possible. He's successful on some levels but increasingly withdrawn and lonely.

Luke finds Dominic on Grindr and they have great, satisfying sex from the get go. Luke wants to hit it & quit it. Dominic wants a cuddle & a sandwich and his not getting the “please leave” message from Luke extends their interaction just long enough to get under Luke’s skin. This allows the relationship to get going.

I liked: (This section has no specific spoilers but I do speak in general terms about later plot points. Skip if you’re very spoiler sensitive.)
- the pacing of this book. the fast sex and slower emotional connection, the timeframe for including family - it all worked.
- how each character clearly provided something emotional that the other lover needed & brought out the best of the other person (an essential part of a good romance for me).
- the spice level. There’s great chemistry and frequent sex but each has it’s own mood and accomlishes something different. I’m not a superfan of the long tease and this book shows how to make a story work without bs delays. I was looking for a story with a fair amount of sexy times and I got it here.
- the conflict. (most spoilery comment) The conflict was real - Luke basically relives his worst nightmare and has to recognise that because Dominic is not his ex, he has to see the situation differently. Dominic has to move his own life out of stasis before he can really be comfortable with himself or the relationship.
-how they handled consent & the age differential. At no time did I worry about consent issues is this book. Dominic makes sure Luke sees him as fully adult. I thought the neighborhood bully (closeted, natch) was handled appropriately.
-Secondary characters. The relationship has to include other characters - friends & family members. Both L & D need to come out to someone and I think this was handled well.
- Dominic has serious family issues and is amazingly compassionate about it. Luke supports him. It’s amazing. But there’s trickiness because the families know each other a little and there’s physical fighting. Luke and his ex are genuinely friends and she pushes his buttons in the best way.
- Audio. I enjoyed the audiobook. The glottal “t” (/li’ul/ instead of /little/) fit the dialect. There’s a LOT of texting between “Luke” & “Staff Seargeant” and even though the handles get read with *every* *line*, the texts were some of the best parts and didn’t feel tedious.
-humor/cleverness. Luke hides his teen son’s cell phone in a box of tampons. I nearly died.

My only quibbles:
-Dominic doesn’t dress as Captain America for Halloween. This is literally the worst thing about this book.
-Luke’s ex & therefore kids are black but it’s used mostly as a device to keep L&D from discovering familial overlap. I’d think with how prevalent police violence against black people is, as referred to in this book, it would also factor into Luke’s overprotective streak and it does not seem to. I call this a quibble because I like that race isn’t played with or considered an issue for either hero but the kids’ safety seems like it could factor in. Trying not to overthink this. Because all the characters are regular average folks and are refreshingly treated that way.
-How/when & with what time & money did Luke’s ex wife become a lawyer? But it’s not her story.

See also “Smitten with Reading’s” review for another summary of why Fast Connection is a great story.

Fast Connection is a well crafted romance story with a medium-high spice level with bisexual guys as the protags and I cannot recommend it enough.
