This was a great story. The characters were believable, and the story flowed so well. The only negative for me was the burping lawyer. It was overplayed, giving the story an inane quality. It was still an excellent, highly enjoyable read, and I will look forward to more books by Ms Lee.

Growing up with a father who preferred her twin brother, Will, Abigail Anne Lannigan was continuously trying to win her father’s love, but he had a heart of stone. After Abigail’s mother passed away, life became increasingly hard for Abigail. Her father wanted her to quit school and take care of the household chores, and marry someone of his choosing at a young age. Abigail Anne had bigger plans and, with the help of her teacher, found her way to Richmond, Virginia. The woman she lived with and worked for passed away and she was expelled from the woman’s home by the probate court. Life grew tougher as she tried to eek out a living as a dancer at a speakeasy during the Depression years. A tough, courageous, and determined woman, Abigail Anne faced many trials and tribulations during her lifetime and became successful in her own right.
When Destiny Fairchild, with her heart of gold, moved in across the street the two formed an unlikely friendship, given their age differences. It is their friendship that gives heart to this story.
The ups and downs of Abigail Ann’s and Destiny’s story will keep you turning the pages. Their saga is well fleshed out with real-to-life situations. Their characters are undeniably plausible and equally loveable. Another character is Elliott Emerson who is nothing but bad news. I disliked him from the moment he appeared. He personifies greed, dishonesty, and all else on the ugly side of human nature.
As with all the books by Crosby, I thoroughly enjoyed THE TWELFTH CHILD. Her style of weaving warmth, a bit of cozy mystery, and a touch of fantasy into everything she writes makes Bette Lee Crosby one of my favorite authors. As I say after reading each of her books, this is my favorite. But the truth is, they are all so good it is impossible to choose one book over another. Reading Crosby’s books, one gets the sense that you are sitting in the room while the author tells the story. She writes with a soothing Southern voice that brings a sense of realism to her fiction.

This was an enjoyable book to read. The book goes back and forth in time, however I relished the relationship between two totally different women intertwined with an ungrateful despicable greedy relative of one of the women. I look forward to reading more by Bette Lee Crosby.

The story is interesting and the characters are well done. There is a lot of life in this book. It is enjoyable if you like this type of story. There was one small issue not resolved at the end which is a little disappointing but not a major issue to ruin the rest of a good read.

This story was well-written and real. The characters were realistic and entertaining. There were a few parts of the story that I felt went untold (the father and Gloria's weren't really resolved). Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who's been through tough times, and haven't we all?

A quaint story about a courageous woman. I enjoyed this book because it contained a little bit of romance, mystery, and justice.
A book defiantly for women. The characters were easy to recognize. Thanks

I really liked this book and the characters that were developed.
It goes back and forth from the lead character being a child
to being an old woman and all the people in her life that influenced her.
ITs a page turner!

I enjoyed this story, and appreciate the writing. I was disappointed in the words used out of context. Also, had the author done the research, as she claimed she had done, she would have gotten the correct spelling for Culpeper.

The Twelfth Child kept my interest and drew me into the character's heart. I am not usually one who enjoys books that take place in the earlier 1900s but this was really timeless and showed how a strong girl became a strong woman and survived so much in her life. It was intriguing as it skipped between present times and the past to finally come together to resolution.

I loved this book from the 1st page. The characters jump off of the pages right into your heart. It's a refreshing change from all the fast paced murder mysteries or sexy romance books. If you like it you should read Spare Change too!

This book reflects the difference in good and bad people. It also chronicles the life of Abigail, whose life was full of many hard choices. While some of it is hard to believe, I still enjoyed the read.

Very interesting book. I enjoyed the way it was laid out. Some delightful characters and a couple of scumbags. The perspective of the one telling the story was different from any thing I have read before. The editing could have been better, especially the grammar. I had a hard time putting it down. It's one I recommend to friends.

The story, told by the main character after her death, weaves a powerful combination of great characters and story line. The theme of good winning above greed and selfishness leaves the reader cheering for the wonderful ending the author penned.

Recommended for all mothers and daughters. In today's world of advanced technology, the younger generation is too busy to ponder over the importance of or value relationships with their parents. Demands of peers, friends and co workers fill their lives, not forgetting the i phones, the i pods etc. This book displays how a dead relationship can come alive once we create time to find out the hows and whys of the lost love.

I really enjoyed this book. The author writes in a comfortable manner that endears you to the main character immediately. The story is intense and as you are drawn in, it's easily to feel the emotions of the situation. I was mildly disappointed at the ending, but at the same time, I agree with the author's decision to resolve things the way she did. She was true to her characters to the very end.

I'd honestly recommend this book and I am excited to read a few more books by this author. I give the Twelfth Child 5 out of 5 stars!

Note: I received this book and provided the review on behalf of a blog tour. It didn't affect my opinion in any manner. I absolutely loved this book!

Seldom does a book come along without something in it that creates hesitation...I can't recommend this because...
There are no hesitations for me with this novel. There are layers of relationships and discovery - heartache - challenges - death - but there is also friendship - comeuppance - and innate goodness. Delightful.
