Top notch book. Excellent selection of tunes, pared down to the bones so you can develop them on your own but good enough to stand on their own. All in relatively easy keys (no 5 sharps or 4 flats). A few mistakes in the words of the songs and in the music and chording but nothing that you won't pick up on immediately. This is the standard book in our bluegrass group. Promptly delivered.

Terrific selection of songs. I'm a new banjo player and I really appreciate the author's handy guide to banjo chords. I may just get the 2 CDs that come with it! Like the other people in my bluegrass jam group, I went to Staples and had them put it into spiral-bound format. Much easier to use that way. (Didn't cost that much to do.)

This book has musical notation, but no tabs. Hardly any Bluegrass players read music, but many can at least decipher tablature diagrams. This book would probably be fine for a horn or piano player who is trying to get started in Bluegrass. A much better book for actual Bluegrass musicians would be Pete Wernick's "Bluegrass Songbook" published by Oak Publications. That book has "vocal" tabs (singing aids), guitar chords and much better discographical and publisher information than the "Bluegrass Fakebook."

We bought this with the idea we'd learn something for "jams" in FL. May or may not be helpful there, but we have enjoyed sitting around trying out the songs and reading the crazy / corny words. I don't think bluegrass is my thing.

The book is essentially a collection of 150 songs played by bluegrass bands. All songs have chord, melody notation and lyrics. There are also chord charts for guitar, mandolin and banjo. Most of the songs are arranged in a key of G, you can use capo to play in different key. Very recommended for bands and playing at bluegrass jam sessions.
