This is Chick Lit. Well done Chick Lit, but Chick Lit nonetheless. The heroine is Wonder Woman -- beautiful, strong, smart, talented, able to fly an ancient single-engine plane through a nightime thunderstorm, make a miracle landing and keep going for another 18 hours or so. The men in her life are all dashing and charming, although not necessarily reliable. Characters are well-drawn and interesting -- just not believable. It's written in a Perils of Pauline style, zooming from one crisis to another through a plot that's a mishmash of diappearing parents and a stolen priceless holy statue. A good read, as long as you don't stop to think about it.

I loved this book, and really loved the characters! I enjoyed the relationships between the characters also. This book made me laugh and cry, sometimes both at same time. I had a difficult time when I wasn't able to read it.

Shame on the author (a college professor no less), for not being able to write without interjecting profanity into every page and situation. I slogged through three chapters before I gave up in disgust. It's slow reading, and I don't need to waste my time on trash. Fortunately this was a Kindle library download so I didn't waste any money, only my time.

From the author of Uncivil Seasons, The Last Noel, Dingley Falls, Foolscap, and, my favorite, Handling Sin, among many others, another wonderful read with deep insight into humans and their relationships. Masterfully crafted, beautifully written, it is a book for booklovers as well as lovers in general.

Another Malone at last! I have read his Handling Sin at least six times: a Don Quixote of the American South. And now another jewel to savor. No one is better at designing characters with all the flaws and perfections in each of us, with grace wrapped around them all. Malone masters the art of storytelling in a way that pulls me in and through the book. Four Corners combines good writing and a priceless picture of the human experience. Once you finish this book, be sure to pick up Handling Sin and maybe The Last Noel. You will be glad you did!

I absolutely LOVED Handling Sin and could not wait to get my hands on Malone's new novel. I read this over the long holiday weekend - boy was it an adventure! Malone is the best at character development - I find myself thinking about Annie and Sam and Jack and the others often. A really feel-good book at time when we could all use a little love, a sense of home, and family.

I was disappointed with this book based on the reader's reviews. I was expecting greatness and got confusion.
While there is a definite desire to get to the end and find out what is really happening, I did not enjoy the strange characters and wordiness of the author. I mainly finished it for my bookclub..where it was not a favorite. A few women liked it, but 3 of us really didn't.

Completely enjoyable. I knew where this was headed early into the story, but went along for the remainder of the trip, hoping for- and getting- mostly happy endings. It had a similar tone as another lovely book, The Help.

An amazing tour de force, rewriting Dorothy's adventures in Oz as the search by a twenty-something Navy test pilot, Ann Goode, for her con man father. Very, very, very sexy when she meets the Tin Man (who does have a heart!) and absolutely hilarious when she meets the scarecrow. The cowardly lion is, I think, her first husband. (As is so often the case.) As good an update of Oz as "Clueless" is of Jane Austen's "Emma." Some very interesting political background on Cuba and the Bay of Pigs as well, that ought to be
interesting to think about in the context of new Cuba-US relations.

This is my first experience with Michael Malone, and sadly, it is my last. This novel is such a hash of factual errors, rambling writing and unbelievable characters that I just couldn't finish it. After two evenings of trying to like it, I finally closed it and put it back on the shelf. Fortunately, it was a library book - if I'd paid retail for it I'd want my money back.
This guy so obviously knows nothing whatever about the Navy that he should not have attempted to make his main character a naval officer, especially a flier. I swear, it's like a junior high school kid tried to write a novel, it is so packed with factual errors.
Mr. Malone might be a great writer - some of the reviews certainly indicate so - but I just don't know if I'll try one of his other books, this was such a disappointing experience.

This was a completely riveting read. The author brought you in and introduced the characters so thoroughly that you felt you knew them, but left enough mystery to keep you hooked to the end. Definitely a surprising ending.

I liked the plot, casting the screenplay in my mind as I read. The generations were covered well although the novel was a tad repetitious and lengthy for my first attempt at a downloaded library book.

There's no one better at creating rich characters and a sweeping, magical world than Michael Malone. This modern retelling of the Wizard of Oz about navy fighter pilot Annie Goode is funny and moving and a terrific page turner.

Four Corners of the Sky has an entertaining story, wonderful characters, and beautiful writing. It's the kind of book you can keep on your night stand long after you've finished it, to pick up and re-read chapters just to remember how much you enjoyed the plot, the people, and the places Michael Malone takes you. It's a keeper!

This book was boring and unimaginative with unrealistic, boring characters. I gave it two chances to pique my interest but the book never got off the ground. It was my first Malone book and I have no desire to try another. No stars (although I had to choose a star in order to submit this review).
