The first three, I would laugh quite often from Dexter's self-effacing dry Wit. This one only gave me a few smiles. It lacked the tension of the previous Dexter... novels. I could barely stop reading them to go to bed, in fact I read each in two evenings. Only two times where Dex is in danger or stalking. While Astor's involvement was a twist, her role should have been opposite of what it was.

Still, good, just not as good.

What happened to the Serial Killer I fell in love with?! This Final Cut Dexter is a different character from the one in books 1-6. His story deserved a much better end - IF this is the final installment - It feels like the author simply gave up on Dexter and his faithful followers.

This book is such a disappointment. Lindsay should have just left well enough alone and waited to write this novel until he actually knew how to end the series. Plot was contrived, and characters were static and shallow, and the conclusion made no sense in terms of prior development. If you really love the Dexter books, this is not the way to say goodbye.

Good old Dexter, but plot was very slowly evolving with no-surprise ending and the whole book was not so far thrilling as previous ones. Must have for all Dexter lovers and just average poem for the rest of readers...

I've read every Dexter book and seen every episode. This was a completely terrible book. Dexter spends at least half of it sitting in a hotel eating breakfast. He goes over and over what he's eating and how much he enjoys it, only leaving enough time to oogle over a movie star. What was supposed to be a villain was so pathetic that Dexter literally finds him on Facebook, and that's the end of it.

This book was a major disappointment. It was slow and clumsy and felt rushed and so far away from the dexter book of the past I can't believe this is how this series ended. Almost as disappointing as the tv series

WHAT?!!! The book finale was even MORE unsatisfying than the TV show. Gone was the dark humor--I'm used to laughing out loud reading these, but Dumbed Down Dexter? Just no. The entire storyline was completely out of character for our hero, and totally unPassenger-like. To get outsmarted by a total fidiot and then sit there and take it at the end? So much potential, so little payoff.

No where near as good as his previous books. Lots of loose ends no one cares about. Not nearly as dark as the rest of them. Way too much introspection with Dexter. If you have fond memories of Dexter as a loveable sociopath, do yourself a favor and don't bother with this book. The wrong person dies at the end..

Booked moved really sllloooww, got better towards the end however the ending was anti climactic.. but I guess the series ending wasn't that great either. The odd thing about the series of books it never followed the Showtime series at all. Rita lived right to the end, the brother never died, he has a girl not a son, the step kids aren't normal...

Such a disappointment! What is wrong with Dexter in this book? I love the series - both show and books! But this book felt like more of an assignment than for pleasure. I was so frustrated with almost all of the characters! The kids are unbearable. The wife is whiny and so inarticulate it made me want to scream. But Dexter's utterly simpering, starstruck personality and "feelings" for this actress is just stupid! What was he (the author) thinking???

As always Jeff Lindsay weaves a truly wicked tale of our Dexter's mystery and mayhem !
And as usual this novel is exceptional in all the nefarious ways a really great suspense novel should be delivered.
Thank you for sharing your unique talent !

He's absolutely the greatest! All the Dexter books have been more than enjoyable! He's cunning, witty, smart, sexy... And deadly. What's not to love in this worlds best serial killer? This book is at least as great as any book in the series. As far as comparing to the Showtime Dexter? Uh, how can you compare a Ford Focus to a Rolls Royce? There is no comparison. My only suggestion is to watch Showtime first. Otherwise you'll say, "This can't be for real! A joke, right?" Don't get me wrong, I loved The Showtime Dexter. It's just that the books go so much deeper into Dexter. You get to know him so much better... And to love him so much more. In short, probably the best series I have ever read. My only question is, will there be more?
I miss Dexter already.

This installment has more musing and less action than earlier books, but the musings had me laughing out loud at times. I know some reviewers were disappointed, but I loved the book. I don't want to give away anything, so I'll just say that Dexter has a brush with human - gasp! - feelings. I am hereby begging the author: Please tell us it won't be long before we can read book No. 8!

I have been a fan of the Dexter character through the show and the books. As I am still enjoying reading Dexter's Final Cut, the story line is so unrealistic (not that all of the story lines are) but i feel that it actually takes away some of the enjoyment from the book.
