This was a fun, enjoyable read. I enjoyed the characters. The secondary characters were well developed. Blake and Dakota were likeable and fun to read about. I now have an urge to visit Idaho. For light, funny, weekend reading it just doesn't get better than this.

A smooth talking, tall, dark handsome man and a saucy little fireball of a woman. Fabulous characters and an exciting, spicy adventure getting to know each other. And of course my favorite, an ornery old Dad. Fun read!

I downloaded this book thinking it would be some sports romance, blah, blah, blah. To my delight, it was actually Avery good book, with a great story. Dakota and Blake were easy to relate to and nothing too over the top. Brava!

Once again Rosalind James’ story telling is off the charts. Her writing is a true gift that emotes with ease and I’m not ashamed to admit that I needed several tissues as the heroine’s history was craft-fully (is this a word?) revealed. Loved the strong alpha male whose own vulnerability and strengths are showcased in equal measure.

For those who have read Ms. James All Black series, I noticed shades of those characteristics that make the All Black players so appealing in this novel’s hero – confidence without cockiness, strength of mind and body and a family man who has a genuine need to care for and love his woman. Sigh.

Looking forward to the next novel in this series…hoping it’s Evan and Beth’s turn at their HEA. Pretty please!

I have always loved Rosalind's New Zealand rugby romance books and now she's moving it to the USA with a hot ex-quarterback. Once again she writes a story with lovable characters and hot romance. Even though I'm not a huge football fan she has me hooked and I am looking forward to the next one. I highly recommend all of her books!

A Great second chance story that was engaging, good characters and descriptions. Loved the dynamics of the attraction and relationship between the characters. I listened to the audio along with the book and it so brought the story to life.

Rosalind James is one of my favorite authors and I was so excited to read her latest book and I was not disappointed. There is darkness, intrigue, romance and some humor thrown in for good measure. I liked that Dakota was a strong character and It was nice to watch Blake ,the former Super Bowl Champ, struggle to win the girl.

Romance AND suspense. I had no idea I liked romantic suspense. The characters had a lot of depth, as well as being relatable. I truly liked both Dakota and Blake, especially when they let their badass sides out! Well worth the time to read this totally enjoyable book.

I needed an escape after elections, and this was excellent. The plot was predictable, but enjoyable. A little steamier than the NZ series, but still very tasteful. The suspense in figuring out who the bad guy was, and how he would be put down kept the suspense up through the end of the book. I enjoyed the real place details included in the book. I prefer to use audible, hopefully they find a narrator that knows NW place names. (Willamette would be a good test). I always enjoy this author's strong but vulnerable lead characters

This may be my favorite Rosalind James yet. Blake is every woman's hero. His southern charm is the perfect foil to Dakota's feisty ways. I read late into the night just to enjoy there push and pull relationship.

I loved Silver-Tongued Devil. Disclaimer...I love all of Rosalind James' books, but this one is quickly becoming my favorite. The characters and storyline are what I pay attention to and neither disappoints.

The characters...main and supporting are rich, down to earth, grow, and have real relationships. I can see my friends and family in each and every one of the characters. Blake is not just a pampered quarterback who seamlessly transitioned into a CEO of a very profitable company. He's had real challenges in his life and struggles with his approach to a life partner. Dakota has struggled her whole life, even when she doesn't have to. She has supportive and loving family members in her life, but leaning on them comes hard. Her challenges through the book is learning to trust those who love and believe in her...and to trust herself. The supporting characters, Evan, Russell, and Blake's parents are people you can relate to...in fact, most of us will count ourselves lucky if we have one or two in our lives who remind us of one or more of them.

The storyline...it's more than two beautiful people coming together...they struggle with trusting each other and themselves. It's Cinderella in the most realistic way, but more so...I cheered them on as they navigated coming together. I loved the backdrop of lake country and Dakota's glass. I could see the glass in my mind and feel her artistic struggles, joys, and hard work. I would love to see the glass in person!

This IS a feel-good book at the most simplistic level, but it's actually more that that. If you're looking to loose yourself in a book that you don't want to end, this is for you.

I'm hoping this is a start of another series by the author...the books get better and better.

As usual, Rosalind has created a strong woman who won't let the world beat her down. I loved all the relationships in this book. There was laughter and tears, platonic best-friends love, parental love and, of course, sexy romantic love. Dakota's artistic talent was interesting and made her a complete character. As with all of Rosalind James' books, I would highly recommend!

Really loved the story in this book! A fairytale prince kind of guy but with a strong independent woman instead of a typical princess . This book made me feel happy with just a little sad thrown in to give it a good balance . A really great read !

I enjoyed this book although I felt the presence of football was lacking so not sure why this was promoted as such. However, it didn't matter. Silver-Tongued Devil was a quick, fun read. As always, Rosalind James did her homework and delivered something her fans are sure to be happy with.

A little disappointing. The book felt very loooooong and the slow burn was really slooooowwww. I kept skipping ahead, hoping for the story to move along. The characters weren't as lovable to me as other RJ characters are. The hero is a little too perfect - NFL quarterback, billionaire, do-gooder, son of a minister... a bit much. If you've a fan of RJ's Idaho series you might enjoy this as well, but fans of her NZ rugby books might agree with me about this book. The magic is missing, I'm sorry to say.

I gave this book 5 stars because I really enjoyed the story. Blake is very wealthy and I normally question a romance plot based on poor girl/rich guy as being believable; however, Blake comes across as normal and down to earth and Dakota takes some convincing before she agrees to date him so this story line works. I like how it takes a minute for them to come together. I enjoyed watching Dakota learn to have some confidence in herself and the fact that she is half Lakota is engaging. I absolutely loved Dakota's dad and that entire backstory where he pulled himself together for his kids and how he accepted Dakota as his own because his son loved his half sister and was so loyal to her. I can't wait to read about Evan if he gets a story because he never went anywhere without his baby and who doesn't want to know what happens with him? I laughed out loud during the scene where Evan and Russell leave the baby with Blake and he holds her like a football! Overall very good read.

Silver-Tongued Devil is a small town romance about a retired sports star, and his life after sports in his new business adventures, and a local quirky woman with a slight wild side, who appears to be the complete opposite of his dream woman but when it comes to the heart, he finds sometimes you can’t build a list for the perfect ideal woman. This book is full of sexiness, sensuality, emotion, passion, art and even a little bit of suspense which all equates to such a fabulous unique read.

We are first introduced to Blake, a multi-millionaire sports star turned businessman who is still in the process of fully accepting his new lifestyle and what he believes he needs to complete his life, before we meet Dakota, a hard working artistic woman trying to do right for her stepdad while putting her own dreams on the back-burner, although she still works on it when she can. Using dual points of views, we get a good rounded look and understanding of both characters as the book evolves and their sizzling chemistry that quickly heats up. Sparks instantly are there between the two characters when they meet although it’s not quite instant attraction on both halves but unknowingly ignites something deeper. Given the shortish time frame of the book and development of relationship between Blake and Dakota (roughly a month), the development of their relationship felt very natural and well paced, given the scenarios and challenges they faced. Both appear as strong unique characters but what makes them appealing to the reader is we get to see their more vulnerable sides at times with very real emotion, giving both characters a very realistic feel to them. I personally really liked the relationship Dakota had with her stepdad and how that developed throughout and also Blake’s relationship with him; her stepdad plays a biggish role in helping develop both characters further to a degree and added a grounding to both characters at appropriate times.

Silver-Tongued Devil is well written with a strong writing style that really pulls you in as a reader. While the book, overall, had a great blend of romance and steamy scenes, there is an air of mystery mixed with drama and tension that bubbles along throughout without being drawn out unnecessarily that adds to the intrigue of the plot. One of my favourite things that I loved about this book was Dakota’s art and the vividly stunning descriptions the author gives of such beautiful but simple sounding art that wasn’t too confusing as a reader to visualise and imagine. The epilogue leaves you feeling fully satisfied with the HEA and feeling that all ends have been tied up to make this a standalone read for Blake and Dakota’s story.

I would highly recommend this sexy, well written, small town romance that is actually so much more than what appears from the outset.

Audiobook Review: May contain spoilers:

My first Rosalind James story, and this new to me author captivated me with the level of details she used in each scene. Her writing is very descriptive, vivid, and made it easy to visualize the back drop, the characters and their mannerisms. Both the plot and characters were well developed; however, due to the abundance of details, this story's on the longer side, and some scenes were dragged out, but overall, it was a satisfying story.

Silver-Tongued Devil has a little of everything drama, chemistry, sexual tension, mild suspense, humor, and a little danger. The majority of the drama comes from the push / pull relationship between Blake and Dakota. Blake's a rich ex-NFL player who was forced into early retirement due to an injury. He's changed his focus in life, and has thrown himself into his business endeavors, but feels its time to start searching for a wife. Blake thinks he knows the type of women he would like to marry; however, after meeting Dakota he longs for something different. His character had charisma, was down to earth and just an all around likeable guy. Dakota's character was more complex, strong, smart, independent, and I loved her devotion to her stepfather. Unfortunately, her past collided with her future. The secondary characters were great and well developed. While they didn't have their own POV's, they had a strong presence in the story. I especially loved Russell, Dakota's stepdad.

Rosalind did an excellent job developing the relationship between Blake and Dakota. It wasn't instant, forced or rushed. In the beginning, Dakota doesn't even like Blake but the more time she spends around him, the more she realizes she was wrong about him. The chemistry and sexual tension between them was flirty, sweet, and hot, which made the sex scenes steamier and more erotic.

The narration was really good! Tanya Eby is a great narrator; however, it took me awhile to adjust to her voice and narrating style. She did an excellent job with the female characters, and I absolutely loved how she portrayed the older male character Russell; however, I didn't care for Blake's voice. His character sounded too old. I think this would have been perfect if it was a dual narrated story. We hear a lot of Blake's POV and I felt he deserved his own voice.

Silver Tongue Devil is a vivid sweet romance with excellent plot and character development. At times, the romance bordered on too sweet, and at other times the story could be long winded. It was still a great story, and I do look forward to listening to other audios by Rosalind. Trigger warning; sexual assault. Another awesome KU/whispersync deal!

I read this book several months ago and just reread it so the characters would be fresh in my mind when I read the second book in the series. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it both times. Great characters and dialogue and enough suspense to keep you enthralled. Love all the books by Rosalind James.

Another great book! I especially like that some of it was based off Virginia and Charlottesville and UVA which I grew up around! Can’t wait to read the next book! I hope we come back to Blake and Dakota though. I would like to see what there marriage is like.

Dakota is a strong female character who faces a narrow minded and racist town to care for her beloved adopted father. She could have had more confidence in her art, though. Her love interest is a millionaire ex-quarterback, who cannot stay away.

When your reputation proceeds you and its bad, you have to continue being bad to live up to that reputation. So don't tell anyone the truth that would change some opinions. Then the silver tongues devil steals your heart and you must confess.

Great start to a new series by Rosalind James. Her writing and characterizations are superior, and the storyline just takes you away into a world she invites you to join. Couldn't put this one down, just like the other books I've read by her.

The first half was great, Dakota was sassy, smart and assertive while Blake seemed to genuinely appreciate and respect her independent spirit. Unfortunately, Dakota lost her fiery personality, allowing Blake to become violent and degrading. The total change in both characters made no sense, especially after Blake risked his life to save her from drowning.

It was almost like two different people were writing the first and second parts of this disappointing novel. Since the author is obviously very talented, it's frustrating that she doesn't present women in a more flattering way or believe that men should treat women as equal and intelligent partners. By the end, I was just relieved it was over...

I was very impressed not only with the storyline but also with how well it was written. I honestly thought it was going to be just like so many others that I have recently read. Boy was I wrong! A must read definitely not your typical sports romance story

Great, awesome, loved it. Dakota is one kick butt chick and I fell in love with the H and the supporting characters too. I liked the suspense component to this story as well. Loved the setting. Now I think I want to go to Idaho.

Rosalind has out done herself again. Captivating, I couldn't put it down! Can't wait for more! I love how she has so much detail about the craft/hobby or work of the people involved. It makes it more real!
