Julie James gets better and better. I love her characters. The women are always strong and witty; and the men are protective and so vey hot. I liked that the author is finally adding some steamy sex scenes to her stories. What's a romance story without it?

The characters are fantastic, the conflict is extremely believable. I will read anything this author writes in the future. Recommend her other books as well, including Just the Sexiest Man Alive, etc.

This had everything I wanted. Romance, suspense, humour, smart characters and incredibly well written. I loved every part of it and immediately wanted to reread it once I was finished. I'd recommend to any readers who love a well thought out story with depth and two fantastic characters who are enjoyable to read and some great steamy moments. You've got yourself a new fan Julie!!

Admittedly, most of my disappointment in this book is probably due to the fact that it wasn't what I expected from the author. And while I enjoyed the book, I just didn't love it.

Julie James' first two books, Sexiest Man Alive and Practice Makes Perfect, were contemporary chick lit at its finest. Light, breezy, engaging...outrageous characters that you related too and of course, romance. What made these books stand above others, to me, was that the sexual tension was built more on the sparring and verbal foreplay...without relying on explicit details. Even when rolling your eyes (hey its chick-lit), you found yourself falling for the characters and laughing out loud.

With this novel, it seems as if Julie James is trying to bring her work to another level...adding a suspense story line and more detailed writing. While its not bad, its doesn't rank up there with the best. The suspense never really builds and the relationship just seems to move along with the rest of the plot. This book is missing the thrills on all counts - romantic and action.

Some may think that adding depth makes this book a step up for the author. But if I wanted romantic suspense, there are other authors who do it better.

The secondary characters are well written and what saved the book for me. But the few great lines (like the one where she talks about kissing her gay best friend) made me only wish the author stuck with the writing she does best. Sometimes less is more.

So boring and poorly written, I did not even finish it. Why so many people ranted and raved about it, I am not sure. I cannot even remember what happens after the opening scene, that is how unremarkable the book was. Save your money if you like interesting character developement and plot lines.

I listened to this standalone story on Audible. It was a great listen but I almost didn’t proceed beyond the first chapter because the opening scenes were “too much” for me – the heroine hears the vocal nocturnal activities in the hotel room next door. I just didn’t like that much. However, once the murder takes place, this book becomes excellent. My advice: if you don’t like the opening scenes, don’t give up before the murder investigation. It’s worth the wait.

This story is light, fun, romantic and suspenseful. The heroine ‘witnesses’ a murder and the FBI investigate with the hero as the lead.

The hero and heroine have a sour professional history and have not had to deal with one another for 3 years. As enemies, the banter and snark between them is well written and highlights the tension and unwanted attraction they feel for one another.

The romance blossoms despite their animosity and the growing danger to the heroine from a ruthless killer. As the suspense builds, so does the romance - which was very well done - and I was completely invested. The hero and heroine are very likeable, the humour is clever, the secondary characters are fun, and the experience overall is enjoyable.

This is my first Julie James novel and it was interesting to me that in addition to writing the story from both the hero’s and the heroine’s points of view, she added in the killer’s point of view. It took me a while to adjust to this addition. Narrator Karen White did a great job. I just wonder why she was the only narrator. I think a man should have narrated the hero’s and the killer’s points of view – but that’s just my personal preference.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this engaging romantic and suspenseful novel, and plan to read or listen to more by this author.

Julie James's contemporaries (with Karen White as narrator) are definitely going to be my audiobook binge of 2016. I had a great time with Just the Sexiest Man Alive so I had to try another soon. Something About You is the first in the loosely connected U.S. Attorney/FBI series and I found it to be entertaining, funny, and super romantic. It also didn't hurt that it included a variety of themes that I love such as enemies to lovers and second chance romance.

Cameron Lynde is an Assistant U.S. Attorney who is extremely confident in her job and fairly happy with her life. But, of course, things get thrown out of whack when she unwittingly becomes a witness to a murder (through the wall of a hotel room). She is then forced to work with Jack Pallas, the same special agent who publicly called her out years earlier, as the FBI becomes involved in the case. In addition to the pressure of solving a murder, Jack and Cameron must learn to deal with their past issues and the physical attraction that rears its head again after three years.

I loved both Cameron and Jack. They are smart, funny people who are successful in their chosen fields and, clearly, made for each other. I really admired how both of them used their strengths to get to the truth of the murder in room 1308 even when that meant relying one each other. The "enemies to lovers" element provided some much-needed humor as well as a way to emphasize the chemistry between them. I felt like both of them grew as people throughout the book with Jack living for something besides his job and Cameron learning to trust someone with her deepest emotions.

The mystery was an important part of Something About You though the identity of the murderer was known almost from the beginning. I thought the scenes showing the culprit and how they tried to stay one step ahead of the protagonists to be interesting. I'm not usually into romantic suspense, but I thought Julie James did a good job of balancing the love story with the suspense aspect. I also felt like I learned quite a bit about how the FBI work with U.S. Attorneys to serve justice even if the stakes aren't always as high as they are in this book.

I just had a great time listing to Something About You. It was engaging from the first chapter and kept me on my toes with the suspense, the humor and, of course, the romance. Julie James definitely has a winning formula on her hands and I am excited to keep going with this series especially with Karen White providing an impeccable narration.

Three years ago Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron Lynde was prepared to file an indictment against notorious Chicago crime boss Roberto Martino she was told by her boss the U.S. Attorneys office would not be filing due to lack of substantial evidence (which wasn't the case at all) and Cameron was forced to break the news to FBI Special Agent Jack Pallas. After working undercover for years and spending two days tortured by Martino's men Jack is furious at Cameron and, unfortunately, maligns her in front of news cameras in his anger. After that Jack is almost dismissed from service and instead shipped to Nebraska. Cameron tries to put it all behind her - but three years later she is forced to work with him again when she becomes a witness to a murder involving a U.S. Senator and a redheaded call girl.

For a contemporary romance this book had a real murder mystery feel to it, and I really loved feel that came from both main characters working for different parts of the justice system. Jack and Cameron, despite their hate for each other, actually shared a mutual attraction before the Martino debacle. It becomes even more difficult for them to hang onto their disdain when Jack is forced to remain with Cameron 24/7 after she is attacked - and also because he doesn't know the whole story about why Cameron wouldn't file against Martino in the first place.

I found myself sucked into this book, enjoyed it a lot and would recommend it to others. However, I feel like for all the time spent setting up the crime their wasn't as much dedication to the resolution. I thought finding the culprits and resolving the Martino conflict tied up too neatly and easily. By this point in the story Jack and Cameron have already gotten together so there was more focus on the romance; I would have liked there to be more balance.

Despite the murder-mystery feel to this story it was filled with lots of lighthearted humor, and Jack was a wonderful hero with just the right amounts gooey and gruff. I really enjoyed the secondary characters, and in particular Jack's relationship with his FBI partner. Cameron's friendships were endearing as well.

This was a quick read and lots of fun, if a little predictable. While it wasn't my favorite book ever (because I'm not a big fan of contemporary romance) I don't feel like I wasted my time. Julie James is an author that doesn't let you down.

I kept hearing about Julie James, but the whole FBI/U.S. Attorney thing was just eh to me. I don't know why but it didn't draw me in. Well one of my fellow book club members recommended her newest book so I thought I would give her a try. I am so glad I did as I really enjoyed Something About You.

Cameron and Jack have a bit of a rocky past. Jack thinks Cameron had him reassigned to Nebraska after he had said some things he instantly regretted to a reporter. Prior to that it seemed like they were getting along pretty well, but since Jack thinks Cameron is the cause of all his problem he doesn't like her very much. She doesn't like him much either since he made a fool of her on national tv.

Now three years later Jack is back and Cameron accidentally gets involved in his investigation. Someone was murdered in the hotel room next to hers and she is the only witness to the killer (who is trying to set up a politician as the murderer). Jack can be intimidation and kind of rough around the edges. He is a sweetheart though when he needs to be. He really watches out for those he cares about and he is just a really great guy. He is the big, tough FBI guy who you don't really want to mess with, but will die trying to protect you.

Cameron is a tough Assistant U.S. Attorney. She really tries to fight hard to put the bad guys away. She was never okay with not prosecuting the case that upset Jack. She never wanted to let that one go. She is great and really tries to be just a good person.

It was really cute seeing the two of them together. It is obvious they both like each other, but because of the past they are both kind of gruff with each other. Everyone else can see that they like each other and give them a hard time about it. Cameron is under protective custody and man...Cameron and Jack are really hot together. It was fun watching them try to fight their attraction because they are supposed to hate each other. It was great watching them come together even before the whole past issues were resolved. It was just a good read. I liked both of the characters and you just are waiting for them to finally realize that they would be perfect for each other. I loved them. I am so glad I gave Julie James a try. Now off to read the rest of her books!

Romantic suspense is a genre that I'm always wanting to read more of and books like this are really why. From a sizzling chemistry between two characters that can't stand each other at the beginning of the book to an intensely fast-paced mystery, I found myself hard-pressed to put this book down.

In this book, Cameron Lynde inadvertently becomes a witness to a murderer when a young woman is killed in the hotel room next to hers. Forced to work with FBI agent Jack Pallas, she soon finds herself in danger from this elusive killer. The two of them have a shared history of working together though and their past isn't a good one. Can Cameron remember enough details from that evening to help identify the killer before he finds her?

Let me tell you from the beginning that I am a sucker romances where the main characters start off either disliking or hating each other. It gets me every single time! This book had me from the very beginning then as Cameron and Jack have no good feeling towards one another and are very antagonistic towards working together. This slow building romance was exactly what I was looking for as they were forced to put aside their mutual feelings of dislike in the pursuit of finding the killer. It was fun watching them work through their misunderstandings and especially fun to watch them try to fight the attraction/chemistry that they were feeling. It always makes it that much better when they finally come together and quit fighting their feelings. It was definitely worth the wait and left me eager to see them find their happy every after.

The mystery/suspense portion of this book was well done as I had a very hard time putting this book down. The author did a very nice job of keeping me on my toes just waiting to see what was going to happen next. I'm looking forward to reading more of this author's books and am even more excited to see that this is the first book in a series. Woohoo! The ending wrapped up everything very nicely and kept me on my toes until the very last page. I stayed up past my bedtime finishing this one which is never a bad thing (until the next morning that is).

Overall, this was one of those books that just clicked for me in all of the right ways. I loved the chemistry between the two main characters, was intrigued by the storyline, and didn't want to the book to end. This is definitely one of the best romantic suspense reads that I've come across in awhile. Luckily enough I have many more of this author's books to look forward to, and I will definitely be continuing on with this series. Highly recommended but especially to romance fans!

Bottom Line: A book that hit all the right spots for me and a romance that I found myself caught up in.

Disclosure: I checked a copy of this book out from my local library. Thoughts are my own!
