I loved the first book in this series, Paranormalcy, especially because of how delightfully sassy Evie is, but in this book there were things that annoyed me about her character. I realize in the first book she has less power because she has lived a pretty sheltered life, and in this book I think I expected her to have grown a little more, learned more from her experiences. Yet in this book she is disappointingly indulgent and immature, and makes some pretty silly mistakes more than once. Her boyfriend, Lend is such a nice guy and always there for her, that her treatment of him is pretty horrendous (even if Lend feels like he can tell her what to do sometimes) and then there is Jack. His inclusion into the story is very important, but from the beginning I found him really annoying. He's so smug and if it was backed up with good reasons for him to be so conceited I might not have found him so intolerable, but doing back flips and opening fairy doors is not that amazing. And yet, in almost all of Evie's encounters with Jack, he forces her to do something she doesn't want to do, or puts her in a bad position, and Evie forgets her anger quickly because he's a lonely boy. So annoying!! Almost every decision Evie made, I was thinking 'Don't do it! Why are you doing this?' because it was clear to me from her past experiences that it wasn't going to go well. She hates faeries, and they are trying to kill her (possibly) and yet she's okay for a staycation in the faeries realms? Ugh.

While there is a mystery brewing in the plot, the story mostly revolves around Evie's love life and work life, and I felt like very little actually goes on in this story. It doesn't advance too much, although there are some interesting revelations made about Evie's past and the faerie realm. The world-building is great still - I love the explanation and introduction of new paranormal creatures. This book really seemed like a set-up for the last in the series, but I really hope Evie gets more sense knocked into her, so I can enjoy her witty narrative voice again.

I was really looking forward to the sequel to the BLEEPING awesome Paranormalcy. However, I felt like Supernaturally was more of a whimper than the bang I was expecting. I was slightly disappointed by Supernaturally. I really loved Paranormalcy but Supernaturally felt a bit bland in comparison.

Supernaturally suffered from what I call the second-book-in-a-trilogy syndrome. Basically, the second book in a trilogy is kind of boring and slow moving and their to establish plot points for the big finale. In many ways, this is how Supernaturally felt for me. I felt this book was very slow moving and I think that was because of the plot. Personally, I’m not really sure what the central plot was. There were a bunch of small story lines, but I felt they did not connect together into one major plot. I was a little bored, and that made me sad. There were also things that were brought up in Supernaturally that then were not mentioned again, such as not hearing for the elementals. I know it is probably set up for book 3 but it just felt forgotten at points.

While the plot wasn’t my favorite, I will say I loved being back in Evie’s world. I lobe Evie. Kiersten White really has created a very distinct voice with Evie. As in Paranormalcy, Evie is just as snarky and hilarious. I was giggling within the first couple pages. Evie has grown since Paranormalcy. Evie knows now more about who she is and has the chance at a “normal” life and that has changed her. I really liked her character growth throughout this book. She learns a lot more about herself and has to deal with that knowledge and she deals with it well.

A lot of the same characters from Paranormalcy are back in this one. Including Lend, but there wasn’t enough Lend for my taste in this book since he was offer at college. Along with a bunch of old characters, Kiersten White introduces a new character, Jack who I really enjoyed. Jack was a character and really funny. He kind of reminded me of a Puck-esque character. However, the one thing I did not like about Jack was I figured out his purpose right when I met him. Other than that, Jack was a really interesting new character who provided some really good entertainment.

Overall, Supernaturally was a decent read. It was nice to be back in Evie’s world and I love Kiersten’s writing. Even though I was a bit disappointed by this book (probably because it had to live up to Paranormalcy) I still enjoyed it. And I will definitely be picking up the third and final book in the series Endlessly when it’s out sometime next year. Also, this cover is gorgeous! I love it and I love how it matches Parnormalcy.

I have to say this series and especially Evie has grown on me. Both the first book and this one were very enjoyable, quick reads. In Supernaturally, Evie is finding out that being "normal" is nothing like Easton Heights and can be a little boring, especially since Lend is off at college. Evie spends her time at school, doing homework in an effort to get into Lend's college, and working at the diner to make some money. Shortly into the book, Evie is found by Raquel and given an offer to work as a contract employee for the IPCA. Lend is against this idea, but she agrees to work with them anyways to add some excitement back into her life. She does have two conditions: "One: I am not Level Seven or anything in any system. I am not IPCA. If I don't like a mission, I don't do it. It's totally my call." Second: "I want my credit card back." Evie also does not want to work with Faeries anymore. This problem is solved with new character, Jack. Jack is a human with the unique ability to travel on the faerie paths from place to place. He doesn't really like to get into how he is able to do that. Read the book and you will find out ;)

I have to say I like Jack. He is a bit mischievous and tends to get into trouble. I can easily picture him doing the things described in the book and Evie trying to keep him out of trouble. She wants to keep Jack and her IPCA life separate from her normal life.

I know in some cases when there is a trilogy or series of books, the second book just is not as good as the first. I do not think that at all about this series. I like this book just as much as the first one, if not more. I like where the series is going. There is an extra mystery in this novel that really isn't addressed and I'm guessing that's what the third book or at least what part of the third book will be about.

I'm definitely looking forward to reading more books by Kiersten White.

Second book in the Paranormalcy series, Supernaturally, Evie seems to have the life she has always wanted. She has Lend, friends, family, a job and most importantly, her own locker. Things seems to be looking up. But after one day, the life she thought she left behind creeps back on her when she barely escapes an apparent kidnapping. Then coincidentally, Raquel shows up from the IPCA not offering for to come back fully, but to be more of a consultant for IPCA. Problem is, Evie doesn't want anyone to know she is working for the same company that she nearly lost her life for and have ruined plenty of others. She is trying her best to adjust to her new life, but she isn't sure if her semi-normal life is best for her or not.

I do love this series a lot. Kiersten White's style is so funny and fast-paced. It is hard for me not to be a fan. As I said in my first review for Paranormalcy, this is perfect for us Buffy fans. With that being said, Supernaturally had a different feel to it than Paranormalcy. The plot focused on Evie's life and how she feels it is not as exciting as it once was. Things aren't as exciting as they are on her Easton Heights show. Evie has all she wanted, but it still doesn't feel like enough and that leaves her to questioning herself about everything and to make some questionable choices. The IPCA wanting her back made sense because I think Raquel generally loves her even though she doesn't express it. But Lend's family has every right not to like them given what they have done. She is getting kidnapped by supernaturals she has never seen and everyone believes the IPCA is involved. So Evie lies to everyone around her instead of telling them the truth. She also knows the truth about Lend's mortality, well immortality. She lies to him (by omission) and is scared that if he knows, Lend will leave her.

I still love Evie, don't get me wrong. But I do miss all her Buffy-ness. I do love that the IPCA is changing their practices and that they are showing Evie that they are listening, but what about Evie? Where was Tasey for Christ's sake? In Paranormalcy, she wouldn't be caught dead without it, in this book, Tasey never made an appearance instead Jack was always there to save the day. I really liked Jack. He was crazy fun, I mean really crazy fun. He likes jumping off of things, doing flips and tricks. He definitely had a lot of spark. He is human, but definitely not of this Earth, which he isn't. He was raised by the Fey. While Evie thinks he is nuts, she constantly goes where he goes and I didn't understand why. She doesn't know Jack and she is always babying him. I understand he could easily attract trouble, but still. Lend is off to college and he doesn't have that big of a role in this book and when he does, something would happen to cut the time short. It made me mad because Lend is the closest thing to perfection and I wanted my Lend time. We also get an appearance from Reth who reveals something very big to Evie that was very sad. We also get more about Arianna, Evie's vampire roommate. This was odd for me because she was definitely going through something and I wished Evie did more for her. She does reveal something to Evie that was also very sad. But we don't get more on it, I hope we do in the next book.

Now I do love where the book goes. It was a really good ending and I hope Evie has learned her lesson. I want the old Evie back; a secure, spunky little bada** in pink. We got some of that, but this was more about her trying to find herself and adjusting to her new life. There is also this little side story of the supernaturals stalking Evie. This book doesn't fully go into that, but more like hints at it. I don't think it is paranoia, something is going on for sure. I can't wait to find out what is going on. But even with my issues, I loved this book. White's writing is amazing. This book was action packed, emotional, and very funny. Evie still has a mouth on her, dropping her clever lines like no one's business. I love this series and have book 3 in the library queue. Also White has a new paranormal series coming out called Mind Games which is said to be darker than this which I will be getting at Netgalley. So still a high recommendation but with some bumps along the way.

Evie is finally free from IPCA and is starting at a normal life. Raquel calls her, though, and tells her that IPCA is in trouble and she is the only fix. Then, she meets Jack, who has the ability only a faerie should have. She learns a lot from him and they start to become friends. Evie tried to keep it a secret, because she didn't want to upset Lend. What Evie doesn't know is she was created for one purpose, to open gates. Will she be safe for long? How will Evie react to finding this out?

I liked this book as much as I liked the first book. It creates more suspense and you would never guess who is putting Evie in the most danger. I love the love that is happening throughout the book, both romance and friendship. I hope to read the third book soon. I wish I could interview the author and ask her questions.

Supernaturally is the lighthearted sequel to Paranormalcy , a book with an upbeat, quirky main character with a killer style sense and a witty sense of humor. Evie has finally broken free from the International Paranormal Containment Agency. She's finally gotten the life she's always wanted: nice, normal, and boring. High school. A job. A boyfriend. The problem is, the first two are kind of making her miss her old life, which consisted of bagging and tagging paranormal threats to humans. But Evie soon finds herself being dragged back into the IPCA, only half-unwilling, and soon discovers that there's a plot brewing that she is the center of.

This book was better than the original in many ways. I think that, for one, Evie is finally beginning to grow up a bit. Sure, her wide-eyed optimism about normal teenage life is endearing, and her enthusiasm for all things pink and sparkly, while annoying, showed that you don't have to be some butch, hardass chick in order to kick some serious supernatural butt. And Evie totally delivers on the hardass department, too. I really liked that she refused to be the damsel-in-distress, and whenever she could, she took matters into her own hands. Plus, I definitely laughed out loud several times throughout the book, which showed that Evie's sharp sense of humor had only improved between books.

Supernaturally sees Evie's world, and the supernatural creatures in it, vastly expanded upon. You really start to see the threads that were put in place in the first book starting to be woven together to create a much more involved story arc. I loved witnessing the dynamic of Evie and Lend's relationship. Even though I loved Evie's ex, Reth, so much, I really do love Evie and Lend together, simply because Lend is so understanding, rational, and selfless that I can't picture Evie being with anyone else.

The introduction of several new characters is also worth mentioning. One character in particular, Jack, was seemingly so annoying at first that I didn't realize until the book was almost over that he had conned his way into becoming my favorite character. He definitely was one of those personalities that grew on you--he was annoying, but in a completely adorable, hilarious way that reminded me so much of a trickster, like Loki or Puck.

Evie's rather unique powers play a large role in the book. I can't say much without spoiling it, but I was quite intrigued by her connection with the big bad from the first book. Once again, I feel like the major let-down of the book was its anticlimactic ending. It was abrupt and I didn't really feel like it was part of something bigger. I think that that is something that Ms. White needs to work on as a writer, because there wasn't enough closure and I felt really underwhelmed after all of this build-up.

The second installment in a fun series, Supernaturally is a breezy read that keeps you engaged with the characters and not too worried about heavy details of the plot or character development. That's not a bad thing--in fact, it keeps the storytelling moving along at a fast clip. The introduction of the new characters injected some much-needed life into the story, and the inclusion of some darker aspects made the book, and its characters, seem more mature with their experiences.

Supernaturally was a riveting and exciting sequel to the fantastic Paranormalcy. There was endless action and so many plot twists that kept me hooked and I can't believe I have to wait so long for the third book, Endlessly, to be released!

Evie was back and although she has changed a lot from book one, she was still her sweet and independent self. I know we would we great friends in real life and I enjoyed getting to know her even more in Supernaturally. Evie's adventures are always unique and entertaining. Her spunk and fierceness make her such a likable character and Kiersten White did an excellent job of developing Evie even more in this addition to the series.

While I admit I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the first book, I still was overjoyed to be back in Evie's world and experiencing all her adventures alongside her. This book did not fall into the sequel slump as there was just as much action and plot twists that I had been hoping for. Evie learns more about herself and those around her in Supernaturally and she experiences the "real" world for the first time. There were new characters introduced, as well, which made the book that much better.

Paranormal encounters abound and Evie is forced to make some difficult choices. Lend played an even bigger role in Supernaturally and I am so glad he had his chance to shine. Although everything between Lend and Evie wasn't sunshine and butterflies, this just made them a much more realistic couple.

There were many surprising things revealed in Supernaturally that kept me hooked. Evie learns more not only about herself, but about those around her. The last few chapters were especially addicting and once I started reading them I couldn't set the book down. There is still one more book in the series to come, Endlessly, and the ending of Supernaturally was a cliffhanger. Not a huge one, but there is still a lot I am anxious to see resolved in the third and final addition to the series!

Overall, Supernaturally was a fantastic addition to the series. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the prequel, but it was still an exciting and entertaining read that proves just how great of a writer Kiersten White really is. Endlessly can't be released soon enough- I need more of Evie and Lend!

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

Supernaturally is an excellent contiunuation of Paranormalcy. While Paranormalcy was about Evie trying to become normal, Supernaturally is about Evie's struggle to come to terms with what normalcy really means. The plot is gripping, the mystery solid, Evie's just as endearing as the first and has kept the lessons she learned from the previous novel and the introduction of several new characters makes for a fascinating and fast pace read.

Evie's got the life she's always dreamed of but she's having trouble keeping up with it. She's never been into the actual studying part in school but in order to keep up with Lend, she needs to get good enough grades to get into his college. But on top of that, she has to learn to be normal even though all she's ever known is the paranormal. I liked that Evie's wasn't as naive in this one. She remembered the lessons she learned in the last novel and expounded on those. She was just as funny as the first and kept her kick-ass nature. She did keep some things from Lend that annoyed me but I understood her reasoning and was happy that Ms. White chose to make them fight like a real couple without breaking up. They did something most characters refuse to do in the second novel, they actually talked about things. It was refreshing and wonderful.

I tend to get a little annoyed with characters who get what they want and then complain about it the whole time. I liked that this plot was only part like that. Evie still liked parts of being normal but she missed being part of a team and I could definitely understand that. I missed her life at IPCA too. The mystery aspect was really good in this story. I didn't know who was behind all the attacks for quite a while and after it was revealed, I was pleasantly surprised.

The new characters blended with the old add a freshness to the novel. I loved Jack. I thought his character was a really interesting addition because he was very Evie at the beginning of the first novel. Cocky, confident and a lot mischievous but he could do something pretty incredible so the IPCA was willing to put up with him. Also, I was glad to see Evie and Reth's relationship expounded upon. Even if she isn't wild about the guy, I'm glad we're getting some answers. There is a vamp that is introduced that only hunts other monsters. He was a great plot device as he was a plausible way for Evie to go and served as a great medium.

Supernaturally was one of those sequels that was just as good as the first novel without falling into the same cliches as others out there. Evie stays true to her character, the old and new characters are all fresh and have problems of their own and it's the same funny and light writing as the first. It was a pleasure continuing on Evie's journey and I loved every second of the ride!

I loved this book!! I had recently read Paranormalcy and I found Kiersten White's humor, very entertaining. I have recently been looking at all her blog posts and vlogs, and you could hear her humor throughout the whole book.

The plot was interesting. She changed it up from Paranormalcy which was a good thing. The book kept me entertained throughout the whole story and kept me immersed in the story.

Okay, lets start with Evie. She's the same Evie as in Paranormalcy, but a little more scatter brained. With Raquel coming back into her life, and new paranormals around town, who all seem to be watching her, she's a little paranoid. Plus she has an annoying little pest bothering her the whole time and making things difficult with Lend. She's still obsessed with lockers though!! That made my day!!

Then there's Lend, he's not really around a whole lot. Though when he is around, he's usually jealous. He feels very protective of Evie and doesn't like the fact that she is working with Raquel again, and blowing off her friends to work. Plus the fact that the person who is moving her around to all the bag and tag's is a teenage boy around Evie's again who can show up wherever and whenever he wanted.

This menace I keep mentioning is named Jack. He is new to the agency and is a human who can open faerie doors! What?! I know! That's unheard of!!! He is a menace to society, or well Evie's life. He is a little scatter brained and tends to do whatever the heck he wants!! That makes Lend a little jealous!!

I loved this book!! Kiersten White's writing is amazingly amazing!! (Yes that is my thing!!) I give it 59 out of 59 Tacos!! Yes a 100% liking!! It is worth it to read the first book and then continue on to Supernaturally!!!

This was pretty good. I remember liking the first one more, but I did enjoy this one. Am annoyed with myself that it took this long to finally read it, though.
Evie is now living with Arianna, a vampire, and Lend is away at college (which, I completely forgot that he was of college age. I always thought they were the same age, so I was surprised. Not disappointed, though). She's trying to live normally, but IPCA wants her to work for them again, along with a hyperactive boy named Jack, who is human but can use the faerie paths. She's trying to work with IPCA, while also not lie to Lend and spend time with Arianna. She's not having a very easy time of it, you could say.
I like Evie. I really do, and I remember liking her a lot in the first book. She's fun, and adventurous, and a little conceited, but is also trying to find out who she is and what she should be doing, and is messing a little along the way. I did not like all of her lying. It really bothered me, and I was a bit disappointed that she lied as much as she did. She should have just been honest. I did like, though, when something happened with a boy that is not Lend, that some other characters would have fallen for and made it into a triangle, and made her doubt her feelings for Lend and start falling for another boy even though she should not be, that she did none of those things. She pushed the boy away, because she knows that she only wants Lend, and is confident in her feelings. That, I think, made me like her again.
I still like Lend. He has fun with Evie, is honest, and sweet, while he also has a bit of that overprotective, jealous boyfriend thing going on. Sometimes this is done well, to where you like it. Usually, even. But here it made him seem almost possessive and trying to take over some things, pushing his thoughts onto Evie, as well as that he jumped to conclusions way too easily. I still like him, just not as much as I would like to.
And Jack. I am so disappointed, you guys. I really liked Jack; like, a lot. I did get a wary feeling of him at some points, but I banished the thought. He had so much potential, still does. But instead of taking the sad, puppy kind of direction, hiding it behind his bright smile and happy-go-lucky mood, with what happened to him, he went another way. I don't want to spoil too much, so I won't say why, just that I'm upset over what happened.
I'm also wary of IPCA. I feel that they could do good things, but instead are still not doing them, and aren't being honest about what they are doing. Something's still up with them, and I want to know what it is.
This book focused quite a bit on Evie's lying and dealings with the IPCA, and a bit on the faerie world. The faerie world was really interesting, and I liked finding out about Evie's past and her parents. Although I'm a little skeptical on how, exactly, that was supposed to have worked; it didn't seem very plausible to me.
Also, not nearly enough kissing. But, you know, that's not what this book is about.
It moved along very easily, though, and it didn't take me long to read through (as in, I read over half of it in a day) once I finally set my mind to it. I like White's way of writing though, it's fun and light, with cute little comments in Evie's head throughout it. Also, it's a bit refreshing, if a little disappointing, reading about her version of the creatures, what with seeing beyond their glamours.
Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to the next, and final, one of the series.

--Begin somewhat confusing review.--

What can you say about a book series that is so cute, and so different from any 'paranormal' book out there, that it deserves a category all of its own?

Bleeping awesome, that's what.

I LOVE the main character of these books. Evie is such a funny character, dumb in a funny way that makes her so smart. I love how in this book she's done (well, at first) dealing with the IPCA for a while, and being her own person. Before, she was realizing that she wasn't her own person: she was basically a pawn for a company that was harming paranormals, and she didn't like that.

She wants to be normal.

She wants...a locker.

Kiersten White is now one of my favorite authors. No, it's not because she named and bedazzled a taser for her awesome character, or because she made the male lead among the cutest male leads ever. It's because she knows how to write interesting characters, an even more interesting story line, and well, funny books.

In her world, most of the paranormals are just trying to get by. You have the evil bleeping (oh, and curse words are as 'bleep'. Maybe I should do that...) faeries, and the blood-sucking vampires, but then you have harmless trolls and gnomes who are literally just trying to make it in our world.

It's kind of confusing, realizing that Evie lives with one of those blood-sucking vamps, but she's not evil...only some vamps are. Oh, then you remember that Evie use to DATE one of those evil bleeping faeries, and it gets a little confusing. But it's still worth the read. Really. It is.

Basically, it's a book of Good vs. Evil. In better shoes. (There. My summary, people. I could delete this review and post that and it'd be bleeping perfect!)

In her world, Evie, our awesome main character goes around tasing people.

What the bleep more could you ASK for in a book?

Oh, and I'll let you in on a little hint: THE COVERS ARE GORGEOUS. I love Supernaturally's cover, but the first book, Paranormalcy's cover, is like, really awesome. Like, really bleeping awesome. 4/5 stars.

Remember how you giggled when you read Paranormalcy? How it was like taking one big breath of fresh air? That's how it was for me. I got that lovely feeling where I knew I was reading something absolutely unique and having a great time doing it. It's hard to live up to that with a sequel, right? Never fear, because Supernaturally lives up to it's predecessor marvelously.

Supernaturally picks up a couple of months after the first book. Evie's life has changed drastically. For the better? She's not sure yet. This follow-up is a very 'in the middle' book. Evie is definitely trying to work through a lot of stuff, but it still reads like the fun adventure that Paranormalcy was. Evie is up to her usual antics and she has the same loveable charm and wit. You can't help but love her with her pink taser and Oh bleep's.

Lend is still just as swoon-worthy, but I wish he was around just a tiny bit more, and so does Evie. I think we will be seeing more of him in the next book, though. There are some new characters introduced in this one and I enjoyed all of them. I must say that I absolutely love Arianna! I can't wait to find out more about her.

This really is a great follow-up. I figured out the mystery pretty early on, but Evie makes me giggle so much that I didn't even care. If you haven't read Paranormalcy yet, I suggest you do so quickly. If you have read it, read Supernaturally asap! You will not be disappointed!

Evelyn (Evie) is finally living her dream; she's going to a normal high school and has her own locker. The locker is great, but high school is not living up to the expectations set by her favorite tv show. To top it off, her boyfriend is away at college (total bummer). So Evie has gone from being "special" to being average. When she's offered the chance to have her old job back bagging-and-tagging dangerous paranormals, she jumps at the chance. Unfortunately, it also means lying to her boyfriend, roommate, guardian, and having to hang out with highly unstable human named Jack. What's a girl to do?

Theology: None

Evie is desperately trying to figure out who she is and how she fits into the world. Is she more than human, less than human, special, not special? When she finds out her origin, she realizes that knowing where she came from doesn't really help her figure out how and where she fits into the world. Is she defined by her heritage? In the book, Evie eventually decides she is defined by her actions.

Rating: PG-13

A little more innuendo in this book and a lot more tongues (kissing). No sex, no profanity.

Social Issues

Self-esteem and honesty. Honestly, I'm tired of reading books where the protagonist feels like she needs to lie to everyone about everything. Can we get a more original plot devise, please? (Sorry, venting).

If you liked the first book, you'll like this one as well. If you haven't read Paranormalcy yet, you need to start there.

Also reviewed on my blog, The Vintage Bookworm. ([...])

Supernaturally was a great sequel! I've been dying to read this and when I snagged it from the library I couldn't wait to dive into it. It picks up closely to where Paranormalcy left off. The beginning was a little slow, but still overall enjoyable. Kiersten has a way of writing that even if it is slow, you still fly through the pages. Which is a great skill to have!

I loved reading about Evie and Lend. They are so cute and I could read page after page after page of them just doing nothing but spending time with each other. Lend wasn't in this book as much as I had hoped he would of been, but hopefully the next book we'll see lots and lots of Lend. *swoon*

Evie is a bit different in this book. She isn't as sarcastic or filled with fire or spark this time around, but she has a lot going on and she's learned a lot since beginning her journey. Totally understandable! It was kind of nice seeing this side of her and she was still an amazing character even without her fire. She was still sarcastic at times too, just not as much!

We meet a new character in this book too; Jack. He was a pretty likeable character at times, definitely hilarious, there was just something about him always off and suspicious. I'm not going to say anything more about him, though, so I won't give away any spoilers.

And Reth kind of redeemed himself a teensy bit with this book. We'll see how that goes! And as for Arianna, I love her. =) She's so funny. All the characters in this book have a pretty awesome personality, very real.

Overall, Supernaturally wasn't as amazing as the first book was, but still very enjoyable and I'm really excited to see how Kiersten will direct the next book. I'm really sad, though, that it's the final book. But also pretty excited about it to see how Evie's journey will end.

If you haven't read this series yet, get on it! The last book will be out soon! This series is filled with amazing characters, a unique storyline, and awesome writing!

There are so many things to love about Supernaturally I'm not sure where to begin! Evie is finally living her dream of a normal life, lockers and all; however normal can't last forever. Six months after leaving the IPCA Evie finds herself face to face with Raquel, the woman who was the closest thing she had to a mother and who deceived her. Unfortunately for Evie, Raquel isn't the only "person" reappearing from her past. Reth, the fey whose intentions are never clear, starts to reappear. Soon Evie's "normal" life begins to resemble the drama of Easton Heights with a whole lot more paranormal activity.

Supernaturally is a fantastic second novel in a series that promises to bring paranormal to a whole new level. I love Evie's sassiness with Reth and the new characters introduced. The banter keeps the story moving at a great pace and demonstrates Kiersten White's sharp wit. The characters you were introduced to in Paranormalcy continue to grow creating a richer, deeper tale. Evie may live in a paranormal world but her struggles parallel with the experiences of most teenagers. The story has such a unique look at the paranormal world including not just vampires, werewolves and fey but elementals, slyphs and things still yet to be defined.

This book is a must read for lovers of all things paranormal as well as those just looking for a great read!

The story is quite annoying in the beginning as it centres around Evie at High School doing high school things and everything that we read about in most other YA american based books. So, tedious, yes. We don't want to read about Evie at school, we want to hear about her high adventures!

Thankfully, we're saved early on as Evie finds her Normal life incredible dull and boring. So, yes, she joins IPCA again on a part time basis and this is where the fun starts.

Lend is back, albeit in small doses and he really grows as a character in this book. Gone are the early nerves of teen dating. Now Evie and Lend are in lurve! Big time.

When Jack enters the scene I shrank at the love triangle occuring. It's an overused tome and really uncreative in a story such as this. But Jack does make for an interesting character who fools around and laughs his way through the story. He reminded me of Puck from the Iron Fey series, so in the end I liked him, though I didn't love him as much as Lend.

Evie is still brilliant in her wit, and determination. Although this time she does crank up a little on the annoyance scale when she starts doing dumb things like lie to her boyfriend (and everyone else who have supported her since leaving IPCA), and randomly going off with Jack when she knows full well that he can't be trusted.

On the whole I enjoyed the story, I'm still rating it as a 4 for pure genius on White's part for creating such a readable, unique storyline. But I did feel that the story punch line was more of a 'tell' thanks to Jack in his final moments, and then a quick 'rectify-the-situation-quickly' on Evie's part. So, to summarize, lots of story and filler to get the end which wasn't as terrifying and world-ending as the first book.

Still a great read though!

Supernaturally is the second book in a trilogy. As the title suggests, Evie's world is one full of supernatural beings including... herself? All Evie wanted was to live a "normal" life - go to high school, work a job, hang out with her boyfriend. Lend is living at college, so their time is limited and her vampire roommate is lost to the world of online gaming. Pretty soon, normal starts to look suspiciously like boring. Even the novelty of having a locker can't save Evie from her doldrums. Which is why when her former IPCA boss slash mother figure begs her to become a freelance agent, she jumps all over the chance. The return of her faerie ex and the truly strange new IPCA agent (stalker?) throw a kink into her well oiled life. Evie's hiding things from Lend and taking risks with her life. Is she on the path to self-destruction? And how will she cope with shocking revelations about her past?

Evie is a fascinating combination of teen super sleuth, agent of bad-ass, and vulnerable girl coming to grips with who she really is. Let's face it - as a teen, did any of us really know who we were? Though set in the world of the supernatural, Kiersten White writes characters we can all relate to. Who hasn't kept a secret from someone they love out of misguided fear? Who hasn't felt the insecurity of not knowing where you belong? I don't want you to think Supernaturally is all big issues and weighty matter, it's not. Evie is full of humor (see her pink taser!) and her budding relationship with Lend is tender and heartfelt.

If you're looking for a fast-paced, action packed YA read, then this fresh take on the paranormal is just the right thing!

I read Paranormalcy by Kiersten White in March, and I still remember the delicious tension of being gripped in a story that I couldn't put down. I pretty much stayed up all night reading it, alternately laughing and gasping to myself.

When I got the sequel, Supernaturally, I screamed, waved the book around in a roaring triumph, clipped myself in the head with it, and then became about as useful and communicative as a log once I turned to the first page. My family tiptoed around me all evening until I finished it. The humor and creepy suspense from the first book? Check, and check--all still here.

In Supernaturally, Evie finally gets the normalcy that she craved and fought for in Paranormalcy. Her shapeshifter boyfriend, Lend, is in college. She's in high school, suffering through PE, marveling at having a locker (the ultimate status symbol of normal life), and working an after-school job at the diner. Only, it's a little too normal. In fact, normal looks a lot like boring.

So when her former employer Raquel drops in with an offer to be a contract employee for the International Paranormal Containment Agency (IPCA), Evie re-joins the organization she left, with some reservations. A lot of changes have taken place at IPCA, one of the huge ones being IPCA's new teenage star: Jack, a human boy who can use the faerie paths and Evie's new partner. (I dare you not to love Jack. He's mischievous, audacious, and cocky.) Evie quickly finds herself embroiled in missions that go wrong, badly, while her normal town suddenly sees an influx of paranormals gathering at the diner she still works at.

Reth is conspicuously absent in this second book, but he still appears for just long enough to completely trainwreck Evie's life, you know, no big thing. In this case, Reth springs a shattering revelation on Evie, shedding light on her mysterious past.

Evie remains one of my favorite characters. Even with all her paranormal problems, I've always felt like I'm able to relate to her. I love her sassiness and her wit; her inner voice never fails to crack me up. She's all about kicking ass, but she has moments of vulnerability--like when she admits to herself that she misses being special, something she has to hide in the real world.

One of my favorite quotes from the book sums up why I love Evie so much: I would make this life what I wanted it to be. Screw Reth--I'd be happy. I was going to have my cake and eat it, too. Or rather, be normal and have my paranormal, too. I was special; why pretend otherwise?

If you've been waiting for the sequel to Paranormalcy--Supernaturally is well worth the wait. And if you're new to the series, Supernaturally definitely stands on its own.

This is the second book in the Paranormalcy trilogy by Kiersten White. I enjoyed this book but not as much as the first book, Paranormalcy. Evie spends a bit too much time whining and lying for my comfort; but you do get to meet a lot of new paranormal races. I listed to this on audio book; in general the audio book was well done although the narrator sounds kind of whiny at times she seemed to capture Evie's character well.

Evie is trying to get used to her new normal life as a normal student in a normal school. The problem is as much as Evie longed for normal, well she is finding it is just so darn normal and boring. The only redeeming thing is getting to see Lend who she is still head over heels in love with. Then fairies start randomly attacking Evie and things start getting out of control at the International Paranormal Containment Agency (IPCA). Soon Raquel is begging for Evie's help on a contract basis. Evie wants to help but is worried about what Lend is going to think about it since he hates IPCA, oh and she still hasn't told Lend that he is immortal...so there is that to deal with too, not to mention college applications to be filled out...

We get to meet some new paranormals in this book which is cool. We also get to meet Jack, who is a happy go lucky paranormal who can walk the fairy paths but isn't a fairy. Jack adds quite a few laughs to the story and some interesting twists to the plot. Additionally it was great to learn more about how Evie got to be how she is and what happened in her past.

I still enjoy Evie's sarcastic tone and how perky she is about everything. The only thing I didn't enjoy in this book was all of the whining, melodrama, and lying that went on. Evie lies to Lend a ton in this book, she rationalizes to herself, but it still made me like her a lot less as a character. Seriously if she had just been honest then most of this book would have never happened. Then there is the melodrama thing; there are couple points in the book where it is wwwaaayyy overdone. Most of the time Evie's over melodramatic nature is kind of funny and cute, but there are a couple of times when I found myself rolling my eyes and just wishing she would get over herself.

There was also a lot less action in this book than in Paranormalcy. Much of page space is given to listening to Evie whine about how she has to lie and she hates lying and she hates her life. The saving grace that balances out all this whining is Lend, he has got to be the most supportive and caring boyfriend ever. So kudos to Lend as a character, hopefully he can help Evie grow up a little in the next book.

The book ends well enough, although there is some unfinished business that I have to assume will be taken care of in book three, Endlessly, which comes out in 2012. Definitely read the Afterword because it was hilarious, even more funny at points than the book itself.

Overall I still enjoyed this book. It is a fun read and Evie is sarcastic and cute throughout. We meet new paranormals and learn a ton about Evie's history and why she is the way she is. There is a lot of Evie lying, Evie whining, and Evie being super melodramatic in this book though. At points I found this irritating and just wanted Evie to move on. There is also definitely not as much action in this book as the first one. I plan on reading the third book, Endlessly, but I am hoping it is closer to the tone of the first book than to this one.

Supernaturally is a good follow-up to Paranormalcy and continues the series well, but it doesn't quite reach the surprising uniqueness of the first book. Evie's out of the agency, living with a vampire roommate and attending real high school (with lockers!). She has everything she ever wanted and she's already bored.

Evie continues to be a compelling character in Supernaturally, but her relationship with Lend seems to bring out the worst in her. She's bored because Lend's away at school during the week. I get that she misses her boyfriend, but choosing to only apply to his college seemed out of character of Evie. As does the fact that she needs to help out the agency on certain assignments because she needs to find something to fill her time when Lend's away. Their relationship quickly descends into cliched arguments, including the ever popular: hiding things is the same as lying.

The introduction of Jack was interesting if slightly predictable. He was never made out to be a love interest for Evie, which I though was a missed opportunity. He adds most of the excitement and action to Supernaturally, even if most will see what he's up to pretty early on.

I enjoyed Evie working with the agency again, as well as her reconnecting with Raquel. And I definitely liked Reth a whole lot more in this novel than the last. He's still quite the enigma and I think he'll play a huge roll in the conclusion of the story.

One of the most talked about aspects of Paranormalcy, the bleeps, was all but gone in Supernaturally. A few thrown in at key moments, but without Lish around the bleeping seemed to wane. Personally, I liked the shift away from the bleeps. They were an excellent idea in the first book, but continuing them at the same rate was going to start getting annoying quickly.

Supernaturally is very good, very interesting book and leaves certain questions begging for answers. The reveals in Supernaturally are decent, but I'm much more intrigued by what hasn't come to light yet. I will be impatiently awaiting the release of Endlessly.

Review By Alaiel Kreuz:

Any other day, when she was working for IPCA Evie would be dying to go to high school, have friends, get a locker and be normal.
Finally she gets all of it, her dreams are no longer dreams and she goes to high school gets a few friends and a locker!
And she hates all of it. Where are the catfights, the conspiracy between students, the wild parties or masquerades, the secret loves and affairs?!
It's all so boring, so... normal.

The only good thing is that she has a boyfriend, Lend, a shape-shifter/water-boy that now goes to college and from whom she keeps a huge secret: at the end of the first book she discovers that Lend is immortal meaning that the day he finds out everything will be over since she is mortal.
Or something like that. In fact, she is an Empty One, created for a highly purpose (which we don't know yet) that includes she can suck the souls of other supernatural beings.

So as soon as Raquel (her ex-boss from IPCA and her only mother figure) comes to visit her and asks her to work for IPCA as an freelance employee Evie can't be happier. And once again her life is full of adventures which includes not only her teenager live but also Reth (faerie ex-boyfriend) and Jack (a crazy guy with a cool ability that works for IPCA too). Oh, and don't forget the fact that she tries to her work secret from Lend... yes, another secret, not very wise...

In my opinion, this book was better than the first one. Not only the story is well written but also the twists and the ending are better. Evie's story is really interesting once you get to know it and her relationship with her now-in-coma sister, Vivian is touchy. the only thing that I didn't like to much is that in this book Evie is also very selfish... but that doesn't change the fact that I enjoyed this book a lot more. And yes, I totally and completely love the cover, is gorgeous!!!

I really enjoyed reading Paranormalcy last year; it was such a good read! I was really excited to finally get the chance to read Supernaturally.

Evie is such a great character. We do see a bit of a different side of her in this book. While she still has her funny moments, she doesn't really have a lot of spark this time around. I can totally understand this, however. She's confused and trying to figure out her place in the world. She did do some things that had me rolling though, so I was glad to see that all of her personality hadn't disappeared.

Unfortunately, we don't get to see Lend nearly as much in this book. I have to say; I missed him, and really wanted to see more from his and Evie's relationship. The parts were they were together were great, but I was really hoping to see more. We see all the previous characters again as well: Raquel, David, and Arianna, to name a few. I really liked Arianna's character more in this book; we see a different side of her as well.

We are also introduced to a new character, Jack. I really liked Jack, he was super funny. After that ending, I'm really looking forward to seeing where the author takes his character.

The writing started off a bit slow in the beginning, but quickly picked up close to the middle. There were some things in the story that were left unanswered, and I'm hoping we will find out what happens in the next book.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I think I liked Paranormalcy a bit more, but this was still a good read. I'm really looking forward to the next book, Endlessly, to see what happens next!

Happy Reading!

After reading Paranormalcy, I was all "bring on the Supernaturally!" I had fallen in love with the characters, the story, and Kiersten White's fun and quirky writing style. I was ready!

Remember Evie and her fabulous personality? She's still fun and flirty, but also more grown up and serious at times. I liked her transformation. What I did not like was the lying. Lying to Lend, IPCA, her friends, everyone in her life. I won't get spoilery here, but I just wish she had come clean with the truth. I know for a fact that her friends would have been supportive and helpful had she let them help her.

Ah, the boys. I was way impressed by everything about the boys. Sweet Lend was kind, loving, and supportive of Evie in more ways than I could count. He was perfect boyfriend material and I fell for him all over again. Now, let me introduce you to Jack. He was the excitable new employee at IPCA, who literally bounced off the walls with his energy. Jack had a habit of showing up at the worst possible moment and generally making a fool of himself. Kiersten White's humor shined through every scene with Jack.

There was a lot going on in Supernaturally, with side stories and the merging of Evie's normal and paranormal worlds. There is an interesting melding between Evie's high school life and a hidden life among paranormal creatures. I was surprised, in a good way, by the direction the plot took right up to the shocking ending.

COVER COMMENTS

What I really love about this cover is how it is a beautiful compliment to the Paranormalcy cover. They are so pretty next to each other. Evie is so pretty and she looks stunning with the maroon background and dress.

Supernaturally was one of my most anticipated books for this year and I happy to say it's a great sequel to Paranormalcy!

Evie is back with her signature brand of snark and wit and I could not be more happy. Other characters that we love (and some we love to hate) are back including Lend, Raquel, Arianna, David and Reth. We are also introduced to a new, impish character named Jack who is all sorts of interesting.

While Paranormalcy introduced us to Evie and focused on who was behind all the paranormal killings, Supernaturally is all about Evie and how she tries to fit into both the normal world and the paranormal one. As with many second books in a series, there is a lot of angst on the main character's part. Evie is worried about her future and her relationship with Lend and as a result, she makes some bad choices. I'm not a huge fan of angst but Kiersten White writes it better than almost everyone else so I was not overly frustrated by it.

Supernaturally also gives us the back stories of some of the characters and I was very especially interested in how Evie, Vivian and Arianna came to be. The plots of the books in this series are very well done and the paranormal aspects: the vampire, werewolf and fey lore, are really interesting and unique. I also love the relationship between Evie and Lend and want to see more of him (and Tasey too!) in the next book. While the book does not end with a cliffhanger, there are also some unresolved plot lines in Supernaturally that I am hoping will get tied up in the next book, Endlessly.

Overall, Supernaturally is a very well written, fun book and this series is just so good. Kiersten White is a truly fantastic writer and I cannot wait for Endlessly to come out next year.

Content: Kissing and some violence.

Klasse 2. Teil - ich warte schon jetzt gespannt auf den Nachfolger.

I really enjoyed Paranormalcy and was eagerly looking forward to it's sequel. Fortunately, Supernaturally does not disappoint. I felt that the author did take a slight step back from the darkly whimsical tone of the original, but it was still a fun, innovative read.

Once again, Evie carries this story with her strong desire to be normal. She soon finds out though that being normal isn't all it's cracked up to be and allows herself to be drawn back in to the IPCA. She struggles with questions about her past, whether she will be able to have any sort of future with her beloved Lend, and her own character. This girl spends a lot of time straddling the fence between good and evil trying to figure out what side she falls on.

Evie grows up quite a bit in this book. Readers might not always like her or the decisions she makes, but they will certainly end up caring for this girl who tries so hard to do the right thing, even at the expense of her own heart. The author once again does a simply wonderful job with her dialogue, and even though she dips into the teen mainstream with just a bit too much angst this time around, I still found myself totally involved in her struggles and rooting for her to find her way.

Writing a second book in a series is a hard thing to do, and I appreciated the author's ability to create a fully rounded story - not simply a bridge to an exciting conclusion. She does not rely on the series favorite cliff hanger plot device, instead relying on a solid plot and strong characters to bring readers back for book three. I can't wait.

As soon as I finished listening to Paranormalcy I couldn't wait to begin Supernaturally. I love Evie and all of her witty ways. Emily Eiden does a fantastic job narrating and she is exactly how I picture Evie sounding.

After leaving the IPCA Evie finds herself leading a normal teenage life. However, she finds herself getting bored and wishing she was still with the IPCA. Soon she is given an opportunity to work with them again and she accepts. Evie goes off on numerous missions which end up being quite messy and she begins finding out more about her past. All of this leads to Evie questioning if she has made the right choices in her life.

In Supernaturally Kiersten White shows us more of Evie. White shows us Evie's life as a normal teenager and how she is on missions. We also get to see a lot more into her past -- where she came from, if she is truly paranormal, and how she is connected with other paranormals. You are able to connect with her even more in this book than the first.

Overall, Supernaturally is a fantastic squeal. I loved being able to see more of Evie and how she struggled to be normal even though she is far from it. I can't wait until Endlessly comes out!

Continuing her riveting series with an eloquent voice, vivid and funny writing and shining characters, Kiersten White brings the goods in the highly anticipated second book of her Paranormalcy series.

Like with Paranormalcy, I found being in Evie's head a delightful and very often hilarious experience. This book is slightly darker than the first and I liked that we get to explore the fairy realms and magics some more and deal with some conflicting and more troublesome emotions.

Other things I loved:

* Lend.
* The way the overarching story arch vs. local story arch is handled. There are still many questions left unanswered and you'll long to read the third book, but this book's story wraps up completely and neatly, leaving you with a feeling of satisfaction and a good anticipation.
* The writing style. It's just so comfortable, funny and quirky. It works incredibly well.

Things I didn't like so much:

* Too much Lorethan - and not in a good way. I like the character of Lorethan but found his actions and motivations in this book growing more and more strange and incomprehensible as the book continues. Where I felt I had a grip on the character before, after finishing this book I'm mystified and more than slightly horrified.
* This may sound strange, so I hope I explain it sufficiently. I really, really missed Lish, and felt as if Evie didn't think about her or miss her presence as much as I did.
* Evie becomes stupid and makes stupid decisions, most unlike her socially naive but street smart self from book one. Perhaps it's a part of showing her as "normal", in the author's mind? For me and most other people, teens most definitely included, it borders on TSTL. Whatevs, but for a while in the middle there I seriously thought: Evie would never fall for that!

Despite its problems, I had a fantastic time reading this book. I thoroughly enjoyed Supernaturally and wait in anticipation for the next (last?) one.

RECOMMENDED FOR: Fans of Paranormalcy - Paranormalcy is Required Reading before reading Supernaturally. Some series you can just start off in the middle. Not this one. So, some demographic as for Paranormalcy.

In the sequel to Paranormalcy, Kiersten White takes off right where her debut left off. Our heroine - Evie, is the very same pink-crazy girl we all came to love in Paranormalcy, and more.

Kiersten White's latest is action-packed with the right amount of humor that just blends right in. I'm sure this will earn a punch from most of you, but I have to say I like Reth a lot more than Lend. And Jack, the newest addition to Evie's circle of crazy, seems to be more than just the uber-hyper boy with an unusual power. But Evie's world is far from normal anyway, right?

Kiersten White's writing style is unique in almost every way. It has that light tone, that, at the same time, urges you on with a sense of seriousness that I haven't seen much. Not only is her writing unique, so is White's world. Supernaturally features almost every paranormal creature - in their 'true' form, as we can see them through Evie's 'glamour filter'. It's fun and very different.

All in all, Supernaturally is a fun, light read, perfect to toss into your bag before you head out to the beach. I'd recommend it to anyone!

When high school isn't filled with cat fights, secret romances and illegal dealings behind the gym, Evie finds herself bored with the utter normalcy of her life. She yearns for the feeling of importance she felt when working for the IPCA and soon begins going on missions again, behind the backs of those she cares about. Relationships and friendships are tested and Supernaturally is one suspenseful scene after another. But of course, this wouldn't be a book by Kiersten White without some serious moments of comic relief.

We are introduced to a new character named Jack, a boy who has grown up with the faeries and has the uncanny ability to create faerie doors. Jack might be my favourite character yet! His humour rivals that of Evie and I'm sure he'd give her a run for her money in a comedy-face-off. In Supernaturally, things are very different to how they were in the previous book. The budding romance between Evie and Lend is halted when Lend goes off to attend college, leaving Evie behind at high school. Reth is a maybe-not-so-evil faerie, the evil killer from Paranormalcy might be not-so-evil and her parents are maybe not-so-non-existent. Crazy revelations about many are made and it was fantastic to see the way these grew and changed.

My favourite part of Supernaturally was the way everything unfolded and developed. We're never 100% sure of anything and are given a new mystery to ponder very often. Great pacing, as always, lends itself to a never-boring read. The plot increases in complexity, opening doors from the past and for the future, and grips us in its clutches. Your heart will be forever thudding, waiting to see if Lend and Evie's relationship will persevere. Will her secrets and the countless misunderstandings ruin everything? Will things eventually work out? Guess you'll have to see for yourself!

If you enjoyed Paranormalcy, this book will not disappoint and will leave you dying for Endlessly. If you're new to this series, now is a great time to start! Thoroughly enjoyable and engaging, Supernaturally is another magnificent novel by Kiersten White.

Supernaturally was a pretty good second entry in this series, but I have to say I enjoyed Paranormalcy just a tad bit more. Evie was filled with way more self-doubt about herself and her relationship with Lend than I ever could have thought possible, given what a kick-ass protagonist she was in Paranormalcy. I also wasn't too happy with Lend, because of the way he reacted, or overreacted near the end. I felt for Evie when she had to deal with consequences of her actions, or rather inaction in one spot, but then again it was like you brought it on yourself Evie. That's why you don't keep secrets from the people you care about.

I wasn't all that fond of Jack. He was just too cocky and always getting in between Lend and Evie. After Paranormalcy I don't think I liked Reth any, since he really did seem kind of psychotic and everything. But now that that's all done with in Supernaturally, we actually get to see more of who Reth is underneath that all-consuming desire from the first book. I have to say my opinion of him definitely changed, and I'll be interested to see how his story will play out in the last book.

Overall though I did enjoy Supernaturally, even if it did produce moments where I wanted to rip my hair out. The writing is still as good as ever, and the pacing spot on. I'm definitely looking forward to the last book, because I'm dying to know what becomes of Lend and Evie.

It was great to see everybody again and also see a new character. I loved Evie was determined to make it to a certain college. She also wants help people and that she was still in love with Lend. Great second book in the series. I can't wait to see what happens next.

SPOILERS
Supernaturally by Kiersten White follows the story of Evie after she leaves IPCA and she starts her normal life. However, her normal life is a bit too normal for her. Even the thrill of lockers can't excite her anymore. Then Raquel comes in her life again and offers a position at IPCA, which Evie has no problem accepting because it means excitement in her normal life.

In the first book, I was a bit iffy about a few things and wasn't sure I would like this one as much. But maybe Kiersten fixed a few things and the book is better. Maybe...

One of the huge differences between Paranormalcy and Supernaturally is how Evie is. In the first book, she wasn't bad. In this book, she's become very annoying and whiny. Maybe it's because her boyfriend actually has a life and isn't able to spend 24/7 with her and now her life sucks. Or maybe it's because being normal sucks. Or maybe she really is whiny and we haven't discovered this until now. Whatever it was, I didn't like her. I don't like not liking the MC. You should like her, not hate her or find her annoying.

When Raquel mentions about joining IPCA, Evie decides to come back right away because Raquel said things had changed since the last time Evie was there. Um... what about all those times Evie was saying how horrible they were? How she wasn't going to go back, no matter what? They disappear because she's bored with normal life?

Anyways, so Evie goes on a trip and ends up helping out a troll family. I liked this part of her. And the way she handled the vampire bothering the troll family. But it seems kinda odd/stupid how a vampire decides he doesn't want human blood, but paranormal blood and that makes him stronger...? Um... what? So, this guy is the *only* vampire who discovered this? How long has it been around? Or is this like the "vegetarian" vampires?

There's also new characters including Jack. Jack is strange. At times I think he's this hyperactive five year old kid and at times he seems older. So, basically, he's just this strange teenager on a sugar high acting like a little child. And he's a horrible villain. It's obvious that he's not who he appears to be, yet no one questions anything. Then, when he makes his big announcement to Evie about what he wants, he kinda wimps out on the whole thing. Worst, cheesiest villain ever.

There's also a sodaholic NASCAR loving faerie who ends up being Evie's father. Yeah, I don't get it either.

Evie ends up being left in the faerie paths because Jack was pissed off at her for not doing what he wanted her to and left her there. And only faeries can escape, but Evie isn't faerie. Yet... she manages to escape. How? I'm not sure but I'm guessing she's becoming a Mary Sue, which would suck because I kinda like her and this series, though she has been annoying in this book.

Kiersten, by the way, "all right" is spelt "all right" and NOT "alright", got it? Good. Please keep that in mind as you write more.

Anyways, back to the story, Evie and Lend (who has been missing for majority of the story) have this little chat about how they're staying together no matter what and then...

Then...

There's nothing. Absolutely nothing. It's the end and I'm like, that's it?! That's the end of this book? That's not an end. There wasn't any real plot, there wasn't any real struggle. It was just "Lend is away at college and my life is over!" "I have to get into the same college as he is in or my life is over!" "I told Lend that I lied to him before and I'm actually working for IPCA and now my life is over!" "Lend trusts me now so my life isn't over!" "I'm lost in the faerie paths because I didn't see Jack was using me and now my life is over!" Yeah, that was pretty much it. Would have been a lot better if there was an actual plot to the story and Evie wasn't so annoying, complaining all the time.

I think this book entered that whole "second book of a trilogy" syndrome and it's just not as good. It's a shame when a writer can't make all three books amazing all the way through. Instead, one book is amazing, one sucks and the last one is either middle ground or sucks. If Kiersten can write an amazing ending, this series won't be so bad. But it is a quick read and it is decent enough. I think I still would recommend this book and this series, but I'm not giving this book a three star rating. I gave the first one a three star rating and this book is not as good as the first one.

Evie is finally living a normal life outside of the IPCA. She lives with a roommate, has a boyfriend, and goes to high school. Everything she's always wanted.

But normal can be boring.

So when her old boss contacts her to work with the IPCA again, on her own terms, she agrees. But she's soon back to her old ways of danger and lies. Her current boyfriend, Lend, is worried about her, and her ex-boyfriend, Reth (a faerie) shows up and shocks her with revelations about her past and the faerie world.

PARANORMALCY was my favorite book of last year. So I couldn't wait to read SUPERNATURALLY. And while it wasn't as good as the first book, I really enjoyed it.

One again, I just absolutely LOVED Evie. I love her sense of humor. I love how she was totally kick-butt, but wanted to be normal. I love how she got so excited about the little things (ahem, lockers). I love how she was so In Love with Lend. She's just the epitome of the perfect heroine, to me anyway.

And once again, I loved how this book was written. I loved the humor of it all. And the way Kiersten White writes like the characters are talking to a friend. (Then again, I love reading her blog, too).

The part about the Faerie Paths just kind of lost me, as well as the role of the faeries. And I wasn't too keen about the part with Evie's dad; it was a little odd to me. I did really like the addition of Jack. He was a great, surprising character.

But, oh man, I can't wait to read the third book!

Evie finally got her own locker! But that doesn't mean everything is perfectly normal now, quite the opposite actually. After figuring out she was an Empty One, now Evie is trying to figure out exactly where is fits in.

I really enjoyed this book, but I liked Paranormalcy much more than this one. In Paranormalcy it was hard to figure out where the plot was heading, in this one I was able to figure out what was going on before Evie. And I kept thinking, why hasn't she figured it out already! It is right there in front of her nose! So when was finally revealed, I wasn't shocked. But, don't get me wrong! This book is great! I mean it starts out with the sentence, "Oh, bleep. I was going to die" and then heads right into the adventure. There is tons of funny laugh out loud moments just like Paranormalcy as well.

There is a new character in this one, Jack. And you get to learn a bit about the characters in the previous novel. You really get to understand Arianna better. And you get to learn about Evie's past and what exactly happened to her when she was lost as a child.

There is a part of the plot that is left hanging in the end. Throughout the novel it is subtly regarded in between all the things happening to Evie, so it is almost easy to forget that it was left and not answered at the end of the book. Hopefully that part is answered in the next book, Endlessly!

**I added a spoiler to my blog post of what was left hanging at the end of the book, in case you are interested carinasbookblog.blogspot[dot]com

After loving Parnormalcy, I knew I would want to read Supernaturally posthaste. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy this one as much. Although there is still humor, romance, and twists on paranormal tropes, I felt like Evie's climatic realization took too long. Everything she thought and felt in the last few pages was something I had been thinking and feeling while reading the book. Consequently, I was displeased with Evie and we were most definitely not on the same page. I also think I liked the first book serving as an introduction instead of this book which felt like it was filled with angst.

So much angst. Angst over her relationship with Lend, angst over her application to Georgetown as the only possible outcome for a long-term relationship with Lend, angst over her abilities to suck out souls and her relationship with Lend. I wanted Evie to be more kick-butt like in the first book; I mean, she barely used Tasey!

I guess in some ways though the angst really fits the description of a second book. Evie ended Paranormalcy having gotten what she wanted: out of IPCA, into Lend's arms, and set on the path of normal high school life. But in this second book, she finds out that she maybe doesn't want that life. High school is stultifying; IPCA does some good things and she'd like to be a part of that; and maybe Lend won't be with her because he will live forever and she will die a mortal death. So she has reasons for that angst. But she kept lying and keeping things from those she was closest to, preferring instead to find out more about her fairy heritage from the unstable character Jack, who is originally presented as a charming ne'er-do-well who takes a much darker twist later in the book.

Additionally there are some plot threads revolving around missing paranormals and Evie's suspicion over her boss's motives that aren't really addressed. I hope they will play a pivotal role in the third book but I feel discontent with the ending regarding that. I did appreciate more background on Evie and her powers and there was still quite a bit of humor.

Overall: A bit disappointing to me; there was not enough adventure and too much angst for my satisfaction.

Kiersten White is a genius. A cute bright (not-so-little) don't-mess-with-me dazzling flash of genius. From the first pages of Paranormalcy, I have been a huge fan of hers, and I knew that I would love Supernaturally as much as Paranormalcy, even though it didn't quite exist at the time. You know how seconds and thirds often disappointment? Well, I have a feeling that the Paranormalcy trilogy won't disappoint. Supernaturally was just as awesome as Paranormalcy in its own awesome way. Sure, we don't have the attraction of the boring old Center minus Lend stuck in a cell, but we have school and its boring ordinariness plus (gasp) college Lend and college apps... and wait for it... more makeout scenes! What's not to like?

Paranormalcy wraps its events nicely while leaving us with a bit of intrigue, such as what Reth is now up to (oh how I'm dying to know his new real name. What name could be better than Lorethan? Lorethan is a lovely name, isn't it?) and whether or not Evie will be able to escape the Faeries' grasp while maintaining some semblance of normalcy. However, as always with abilities unusual even among the para-normal, Evie finds it hard to escape the grasp of the paranormal world. And frankly? She's looking for some escape from ordinary life. This is where Supernaturally starts.

Kiersten White brings back a cast of wonderful, quirky characters, including Reth, Lend, Raquel, and Ariana, and Evie (I think the last one was a given); and she brings in new faces, most prominently among them: Jack. The wild, mysterious boy that will bring so much trouble--and action--to Evie's life. Don't worry, Lend will defend his position as Evie's boyfriend gallantly, but you're in for a world of mischief. You will learn things about characters that have the potential to break hearts. You will find yourself wondering who you can trust and who's out to get Evie. You will question how Evie will ever make it out of the mess that her life is in. And you will demand to know what part Reth plays in all of this and what choices Evie will make.

I'm not surprised that Kiersten's so attached to Supernaturally (referring to her post on second books)--that she loves it even more than Paranormalcy. Bleep, I have a hard time deciding which one I love more! In the end I have to say that I love the both of them. Initially, I wasn't sure what I'd think about another guy playing a prominent role in this book, but I like Jack as crazy as he is. I like who Evie has grown to be. Bleep, but how Reth still enchants me with his charm as much as he tries to compel Evie into following him and leaving Lend behind. And bleep, will Kiersten never fail to amuse me with her depictions of "widely known" no-so-mythical (according to the IPCA) creatures?

I love them, and I love the brilliant cast of characters in the Paranormalcy trilogy. If I wasn't so sure they would do something evil to me in retaliation, I'd try to take one of them home with me. I'd have tried to take one home with me long ago. Sigh... I'll have to satisfy myself with rereading books one and two until Endlessly finds its way home to me.

Back to Supernaturally.

You will cry. You will rage. Above all, you will laugh. Kiersten White never fails to entertain (I said it!) you with her wickedly awesome sense of humor. (Wickedly awesome? Webster really needs to think up a new word to describe Kiersten White. Maybe we should slip her name into the dictionary. Words always fail me when I try to describe her!)

After how much I loved and raved about Paranormalcy, I was eager to read Supernaturally, but was a bit disappointed at how uneventful it was. We join Evie 6 months after Paranormalcy ends to see how she's enjoying a "normal life" and she ends up spicing things up by working with the IPCA again. There's also a new character, Jack, who stirs things up a bit and has a key role in this book. Link is barely in this book, which means Evie barely interacts with him, and most of the book is just filled with her thoughts and mundane tasks.

Although Kiersten still keeps up with her excellent writing, Supernaturally is a very lackluster sequel to such an astounding debut novel. I found Evie to be a bit whiney and narrow-minded in this book too, but she still has her wit and humor, so it's not like I hated her or anything. I think it's just that there's barely any action or drama in this book to fuel the fire that it took me a longer time to finish this book than the first. We do find out more about Evie's past and she still battles with her power and destiny, but those revelations are few and far between.

I'm hoping for a killer ending to this series to pull me back in. I definitely didn't hate the book, it has its merits, but it can't beat the first.

I love this series so much! The first book, Paranormalcy, is a book that surprised me with how much I ended up loving it. I've been dying to read the sequel ever since, though I didn't end up getting to it until I bought a copy of the first book for myself. Now I'm so glad that I got to read more about Evie, Lend, and the other paranormals and can't wait to move onto the third book of the trilogy! Though I'll be sad to say goodbye; these are fantastic characters!

I was afraid that Supernaturally wouldn't live up to the expectations that I was left with in the last book and I'm thankful that those fears never became reality. I loved the way this book flowed, showing how Evie's attempt at normalcy isn't blending with her contacts in the paranormal world. While it wasn't as action packed as I might have liked, that was only to be expected to get all of the information in, and I'm hoping that the final book will kick it up a notch. Though this book does do what most sequels do and serves as less of a significant impact, more like a swift transitional novel.

I can't wait to see the characters learn and grow even further. While there were a few things I might have changed about Supernaturally, I still enjoyed it so much and really recommend it to anyone who's already started the series. To those who haven't, read Paranormalcy now and you'll fall in love with it like I did!

I have to start by saying that I loved paranormalacy (book 1). It was so awesome! It had the romance, the humor, the action and it kept me engrossed the whole time. This book had none of those things. The hot hero of the first book is hardly present in this one and she casually strolls back to the agency that she so desperately wanted to escape, what is that? If that isn't bad enough, I got the third book hoping it would get back some of the awesomeness of paranormalacy but sadly, it didn't.
But paranormalacy rocks you should read it.

What a bleeping fantastic sequel. Kiersten made me fall in love with her characters, her world and her writing in Paranormalcy, and she had me loving them even more in Supernaturally.

There are a lot of things I enjoyed about this sequel, and one of them is the character journey Evie goes on. Her quest to find herself and discover who she really is isn't easy, and Evie being the strong character she is makes some tough decisions. I really want to sit here and list all the things I enjoyed about Evie, but for the sake of spoilers I'll sum my feelings up by saying I already admire Evie and all she had to deal with in Parnormalcy, but my admiration for her character grew even more. She is someone who not only can kick you butt and look hot doing so, but she also has a vulnerable side she rarely shows that I liked seeing.

Along with Evie, I felt each of the characters grew a lot more and become much more in-depth. I love the way Kiersten has written her characters, and I like the direction they each took. I liked that not only are some of my favorite characters back, but some new ones are introduced as well, each adding something to the story. Whether it's support for Evie, to add a twist in the plot, an element of surprise or of course to try and trick Evie. *sigh* Oh Reth...you bad boy you. I think I like you more than I should, but you've got some stiff competition. Lend, can I possibly like you even more, especially when you say those things you did to Evie. I have a feeling you'll be melting a few hearts.

Supernaturally's writing is flawless, it flows beautifully, and is unpredictable in an oh so good way. I could not figure out the ending and I absoultely love it when that happens. Kiersten kept me on my toes the whole time, from the way she creates her characters, to the story's brilliant humor and the wonderful twists. I adore Kiersten's writing. Okay, really I would love to bottle up her awesomeness and use it as my own. I loved this sequel. It's a must have book with it's snark, swoon worthy moments and plenty of laugh out lines. If you loved Parnormalcy, I highly recommend picking up Supernaturally. I can not wait to get my hands on the next book.

There was a blurb on Supernaturally that said something along the lines of "Comes closer than most to hitting the Buffy mark," and it's true. What Joss Whedon managed to do so perfectly that makes Buffy epic was create a show that had incredible humor, but also incredible depth and seriousness. These aspects are then balanced in a way where both complement and enhance one another. THIS is where Kiersten White nails it. This is how she "hits the Buffy mark," and she does it especially well in Supernaturally.

Evie is one of the funniest characters I've ever met. Just like in Paranormalcy, the first page--heck, the first line--had me laughing. I knew this book would be awesome by that first sentence alone. And yet...beneath all the cute glitter and pink is a deceptively sad story. It might be easy to get wrapped up in the light tone of the book and believe there is no more here than superficial fun, but that would be a mistake. There's a darkness here that is breathtakingly tragic.

The characters Kiersten White creates are so real and possess such depth. My heart aches for them. Even the Big Bads are complex people with logical reasons for why they act the way they do. If you're the type of reader who wants villains that transcend the black and white confines of Good vs Evil, then look no further.

Supernaturally gives greater insight into Paranormalcy's Big Bad while also introducing a new BB to the mix. While they're both bad, the funny thing is that I feel protective over them. I like them. Yeah, ok, they're not good people, but I get them. I see where they're coming from, even if they're wrong. The best part is that Evie sees it too, and watching her grapple with the confusion this leads to adds the depth of both character and plot that elevates Kiersten White from "good writer" to "superb writer."

I was blown away by Paranormalcy, and while Supernaturally is made of awesome it doesn't quite hit the same mark Paranormalcy did. The plot of Paranormalcy really grabbed me and took me on a roller coaster of a ride. The impending threat of the Big Bad going around murdering paranormals and the mysterious nature of that BB kept my eyes glued to the pages.

Supernaturally's Big Bad is a lot more subtle, and, for me, that subtlety lessened my "OHMYBLEEPINGGOSHWE'REALLGOING TODIEEEEE" excitement that I had going with the first book. Don't get me wrong, the story is still fun and there's still a mysterious aspect to unravel (which I sadly managed to figure out too soon), but it didn't have the same edge-of-your-seat feeling that I loved so much.

In some ways Supernaturally is very much a "middle of a trilogy" book, but in this case that isn't a bad thing. Evie's life changed completely in Paranormalcy, and Supernaturally shows Evie dealing with all of that fallout. It's a very character-driven story. Too often major things happen to characters and the impact of those events is glossed over for the sake of advancing the plot, so I appreciate the time Kiersten White spent here exploring the effects.

(To put it in terms Buffy fans will understand, Supernaturally is Buffy's season six. There isn't really a gigantic Big Bad like in the other seasons. The focus is instead more inward and focuses on the characters themselves. Supernaturally obviously has totally different events, but think the soul searching and character development end of things.)

My only complaint is that there isn't nearly enough Reth and I really wanted to learn more about him. His scenes are wonderful, but too infrequent and riddled with cryptic clues. *Sigh* That is just so like him.

*Book - and likely review - contain spoilers for Paranormalcy, the first book in this series*

Supernaturally, the follow-up to Kiersten White's Paranormalcy is another don't-stop-until-you're-done glimpse into Evie's world.

Only this time around, Evie's biggest worry should be avoiding getting killed by the overly enthusiastic soccer players in gym class. That's right, Evie's finally gotten her wish and has a normal life, locker and all.

Away from IPCA, Evie is attending high school and trying her hand at being ordinary.

Except, being ordinary gets kind of ..... ordinary.

So, when a chance to to work for IPCA again presents itself, Evie agrees.

But as one job leads to another to another, all more dangerous than she expected, Evie wonders if she made the right decision.

Then you throw in Reth, revelations about her past, and trouble with the faerie courts (again) that could mean trouble for everything . . . all that affect Evie.

Looks like both worlds were too good to be true for Evie ... will she ever find a place she fits?

Everything that you loved in Paranormalcy is back in Supernaturally. Thers's the humor, the wit, the characters (well, most of the them), and some paranormal containment, too. Just without Evie living in the Center.

There's also the relationships - actually, more so. Evie and Raquel's relationship is still a part of Supernaturally but it's not the main Evie-and-another relationship that is focused on in this novel. Her relationship with Lend is really developed, as is her relationship with Arianna, her relationship with friends she's trying to make at school, but most of all, her relationship with Evie.

Sounds cheesy put that way, but Evie's really trying to figure out how she works in this normal life, then in a normal life with a bit of IPCA business thrown in the mix.

Kiersten White's talent really comes through with Evie. Love her or hate her Evie is Evie and can never be mistaken for any other character in fiction (or nonfiction or real life, I would imagine). Readers connect with Evie because she is so herself. Evie is a character unlike any other, something that comes through in the writing and really makes this story.

Can't forget, of course, the new character in this book, Jack. I want to know how Ms White had enough imagination space left to come up with him. (Loved him, too.) There is no shortage of imagination or creativity in this book or this series.

The Paranormalcy series is one that should really become a television series. Really.

(and I'm already trying to figure out something constructive to do to bide my time until the next book comes out)

Ok ... I totally heart this and Paranormalcy! When I started this book I was so excited, then I was all woah! hold up Evie. There was alot of that for me this book, however I still loved it. I really like the way Kiersten writes and OMG Evie is so funny! She has a great way of thinking and speaking example... * He winked at her. She giggled. And I thew up in my mouth a little. * I was laughing then I was sad , then I was really pissed then *sigh* GREAT GREAT Book oh and you must read her acknowledgments.

This was a great story and had really strong characters who were all individuals, but I think this story was very short and lacked detail. I feel like nothing of importance happened in this book. Evie just came to the same conclusion she had in Paranormalcy. She decided to be good, and that her home is with Lend and David and Arianna.

It would've been cool to read more about Vivian and maybe a little more of Reth and Evie's father as well.

Although it left me a bit unsatisfied, I'll be reading book three.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales.

Quick & Dirty: Supernaturally suffers from Middle Book Syndrome as well as a loss of the humor in the first installment, but we explore more of Evie's past and the paranormal world.

Opening Sentence: Oh, bleep. I was going to die.

The Review:

I don't think I set my expectations too high. I thought Paranormalcy was a blast--fun, funny, with a swoony hero and an action-packed mystery--and expected the same out of the sequel. Like a lot of other series, there's a Middle Book Slump with this trilogy.

Evie's not enjoying high school. She doesn't hate it -- except for gym class -- but turns out being normal isn't all it's cracked up to be. Then the IPCA shows up again and Evie takes the chance to be a little less boring. But how can she tell Lend and his dad, both of whom hate the agency? Well, she just won't and it'll all turn out okay. (When, I ask, does it EVER turn out okay?)

This is where I wanted to punch Evie in the face. I'm sad to say, she just gets worse. The constant lies build up until it seems like there's no way Evie can get out of her mess and keep her boyfriend and friends. Her cover-ups were ridiculous and the lying so out of character with who we knew her to be from Paranormalcy. As we explore her background, we get to see Evie grow up in a way she never got the chance to in the first book. The downside is, as a reader it's obvious she and Lend are going to hit a rough patch soon. Evie's lying to cover up working for an agency Lend is staunchly against, and Lend keeps trying to tell Evie what to do. Their romance has much less spark and swoon

I've always been happy that this series doesn't have a love triangle. It got close in the first book with Reth, and close again here with our new guy Jack, but White never crosses the line. Jack can walk the faerie paths and knows all about Evie, but while I know a lot of readers like him, he got on my nerves. It felt like White added him only to have someone to tell Evie things she couldn't find out on her own.

Supernaturally suffers from more than just Middle Book Syndrome. Our favorite love interest Lend isn't around as much, we have a new guy named Jack I really didn't like (he's not a love interest, but he was seriously annoying), and the humor that made me love Paranormalcy is absent. Evie, who was clever and bada$$ in Paranormalcy, felt completely out of character. But, the story has more great mystery, even if the villain is obvious, and the pacing keeps you turning pages. This isn't a book you have to slog through, it's just not as good as its predecessor.

If you enjoyed Paranormalcy, you should read definitely keep up with the series because Endlessly is a great ending to the trilogy.

FTC Advisory: HarperTeen provided me with a copy of Supernaturally. No goody bags, sponsorships, "material connections," or bribes were exchanged for my review.

Paranormalcy was my favorite book that I read last year. So I couldn't wait to read Supernaturally. And while it wasn't as good as the first book, I really enjoyed it.
