This is perhaps the most succinct and simple summary of the rise of the federal bureaucracy that I have ever read. And, it's constantly rising costs and debt. From 3% of income to over 50% in the last sixty year's-ouch!, but how do we ever balance this nation's checkbook?

If only the Obama Administration, and all the hopeful ignorami who elected him, had read this. You don't need much more than a brain and the ability to read to understand essential economics when you read Friedman.

When America continues to embrace the the failed socialistic policies of yesterday, Friedman issues an urgent call to political leaders at all levels of government to return to the free market principles that made America an economic powerhouse. Excellent read!

Fast read with lots of information. Great points and discussion with good examples. I recommend it. Easy to understand even for a non economist. I love Mr. Friedman's books, lectures and video interview. Great wisdom in all his words.

Professor Friedman had the ability both in speech and in writing to say the obvious even idiot liberals would understand and even pause 2 seconds the think about it.

I wish I would of read the description more closely, $4.50 for 18 small pages is not worth it no matter how much wisdom is in them.

Disappointed in my own ineptness, not Mr. Friedman's.

MILTON FRIEDMAN DELIVERS excellence in THOUGHT WITH STRAIGHT FORWARD DELIVERY of concepts that resonate as fundamental to the reader. I've been a fan of Friedman since I watched his "Free to Choose" series on PBS ( ironically) . It's a tragedy that this isn't taught in high school as standard learning.

If only the "low information" voter would read Milton Friedman we would not be in the "transformation" to poverty. Please read Freedom to Choose. Must reading for anyone wanting to understand free market economics.

This little book illustrates Friedman's charming and clear style. His other books are more tightly written in terms of offering support for his arguments but even in this one his skill in using examples of key points is impressive.

FRIEDMAN explains the inefficiencies of Government in a easy to read (30 minutes) format. If you want to get a taste of a brilliant and important influence to our generation of conservative icons (Limbaugh, Levin, etc.) This is your read!

Phenomenal quick read of some highlights from Friedman's essays. Excellent insight that applies to what ails our country today. If politicians and policy makers applied only a few of his ideas it would be beneficial.....

In this very short piece, Friedman tries to make a brief argument on why government is in fact the main obstacle to development. Given the very limited space (18 pages), it is impossible to make a very strong argument on such a broad topic. Friedman makes some good points, but most of them do not provide supporting evidence, so it leaves a hesitant reader unconvinced. It seems to me that this book is sufficient for good argument over cocktail conversation.

For a more thorough analysis of the same arguments presented in this short book, I would recommend either Capital and Freedom or Free to Choose by Friedman as well.

You would impeach Obama, the worlds most intelligent man, and elect leaders with a brain instead of unrealistic ideas that are "wiser" than the collective wisdom of the common man. But alas, you can't read.....

Mr. Friedman provides a compelling discussion of what is wrong with the current state of our government. Probably more relevant today than when it was written. Anyone interested in government and policies needs to read this.

What can I say - The Great Milton Friedman was ahead of his time. The Occupy protesters need to read this & go protest on Capital Hill! There's nothing like a free market economy when the Government gets out of the way!!

Milton Friedman is the Einstein of Economics. Recommend this for everyone...especially people who believe that big government is the solution. For those of us who know...well this is eloquent reinforcement!!

If I believed in mandates, this would be required reading in all high schools and colleges, as well as a prerequisite to voter registrations. Americans have lost their way and the content of this book would help them find their way back. Milton Friedman is right-on!
