A New Adult Fantasy Novel (The Baine Chronicles Book 1)

This book started out painfully slow. I lost interest in it twice. The story finally picked up some steam. It still wasn't exciting enough that I couldn't put it down. Of course, it's a cliffhanger ending. I will not be moving on with the series. The storyline was somewhat interesting but I quickly grew tired of her smart mouth and total disregard for those not considered her friends.

Burned by Magic is an interesting story with actually interesting characters. There is more to it than just a love interest or just one big baddy. Jasmine Walt does a good job of naturally introducing you to this whole world she has created and it's history, without it feeling like a boring history lesson.

It has a lot of the typical fantasy elements (shifters, mages, witches) but with different cultures for each.

It seems as if magic will always surround us. This story may be in the future but it carries insights that concern people of all times and places. Politics, greed, discrimination and conflict will always be with us, but so will friendship, and the search for freedom and equality.

This is a pretty good example of the paranormal romance genre. I actually listened to it on audio book when the author was giving away copies. It's light reading and one of the rare examples of a fantasy novel that has too little world-building instead of too much, but that's much better than the alternative. I'm about to give the sequel a try a few months later.

I choose this rating because it keep me interested in story all the way through. This is one of many shifters stories that I am following. I will read the whole series of The Baine Chronicles. Jasmine has a great story going here and I hope to see many more different styles from her in the future. She is an amazing writer.

A very busy intro novel with lots of twists and turns populated by some very interesting characters. Held my interest throughout, and compelled me to skip the housework.
Laurel Schroeder did a fantastic job of differentiating characters and moods.
Lucky to have gotten it as Whispersync on the cheap.

This was my first reading of anything by this author and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Well developed characters and well thought out world building.It certainly made me want to follow up with the next installment in the series. If I'm willing ti part with my money it's always a good sign the story was a good one!

This fantasy/paranormal based suspense novel was just amazing and hard to put down. The plot kept me suspense and wanting to read nonstop. The characters were well developed and interesting to say the least. I can't wait to read more of this series. The only draw back I found in this book were the few typos, missed used words, or sentences that didn't make sense.

Good book with a lot of different characters that sometimes you want to smack down. I got really caught up into the story and didn't realize how late it was. That's the kind of book this is. Well worth reading. Can't wait for the next one. But, I may sleep first. Lol

This is a good series with all the supernatural characters you could ask for. A powerful strong leader and a female who is more than she seems and never does what they expect her to do. She doesn't follow the rule but gets the job done.

I really liked this book. Naya is a shifter hybrid who is also an enforcer. After trying too save shifter from a drugged Rhino shifter chaos soon comes a knocking. Can Naya get herself out if trouble or is all lost. I could not put it down. A must read

Sunaya is a great character that is involved in two worlds and both want her on their side. The most powerful mage in the city is willing to mentor her but then there is the resistance fighting for equality. It's a fun story that will keep you entertained.

The world this story takes place in is fascinating, extremely dangerous and frustrating. A majority of the characters are extremely emotional and violent (including the main character) which makes for an interesting but frustrating story. I also love the cover art. Not that it effects the story any, but it is beautiful.

A tripartite society of shifters, mages and humans survives in an uneasy balance until someone decides to stir up trouble between two of the factions. Enter the unlikely heroine, whose skills and training only get her into more dangerous situations...and the beginning of a forbidden romance. After all, who could love a half breed?

Whoopsies. So for some reason i thought this was on KU and i ate up the whole book in a day and a half. Unfortunately since its not on KU i wont be picking up the rest of the series. The story is quite compelling as far as a urban fantasy goes. So if you like to spend dollars then by all means pick up this series. Seems like a good one.

Action, mystery & suspense all together. Good strong female lead. Stubborn, hotheaded, loyal and out to get the bad guys. Twists and turns leave you guessing. The ending leaves you wanting to know what's next.

Okay, honestly can't remember the narration flow of this book but I DO remember loving this first installation. I'm an avid reader and am always looking for another fun book or series to delve into. I love the world building in this series that gets better with each new book.

Smart witty fun read with sexual tension with the new mentor. With well written charred this world and its complex issues come to life while the pages fly by. Making getting the next book a must. Add this to your summer reading you will be glad you did.

I always imagined sifter books to be mainly about sex. Well, this one is not. I really enjoyed the twists and turns and developments. Being new to the genre, I was pleasantly surprised about the whole thing. I'm looking forward to the second book.

Really enjoyed this one and am looking forward to the second one! When I am reading a book and am thinking about it during the day when I am doing other things, I know I am hooked! This was one of those books!
