The plot consisted of a double mystery that gradually coalesced and I enjoyed the humorous tone. The author concentrated on the mystery and didn't dwell on gore, violence or torture. Though there were some elements that seemed unlikely (can lawyers really get away with some of these shenanigans in the courtroom?), it was generally well-written and I will read more of Rosenfelt's stories.

I have read all of David Rosenfelt's Andy Carpenter novels and a few of his other unrelated works. I'm looking forward to his non-fiction book, Dogtripping. Mr. Rosenfelt has a great sense of humor and his novels are shot through with very funny spots while maintaining your interest in his plot line.

Really enjoyed this book! It's a light read with a humorous tone. It only took a few days to finish because I didn't want to put it down. This is a perfect book to pick up as a transition between more serious works and I definitely intend to read more from this series.

This is my first read (and his first offering) of David Rosenfelt, and it
was fun, fun, fun! Andy Carpenter, Attorney-at-Law, has a off-the-wall
sense of humor ... and his story (in this case)is Cobenesqe.

I highly recommend OPEN and SHUT!

Over the years I've latched onto writers i particularly like and find myself buying whatever they write... sometimes a book isn't as good as the last one; sometimes it's better. No matter what, all of David Rosenfelt's novels are worth reading. This is no exception.

I love this series so much. I accidentally read one of the middle books first and loved it so now I'm going back and reading them all in over. I definitely recommend this series to anyone who loves mystery novels and dogs.

You know, sometimes you just need something that is not so serious, and just plain funny. That is what I enjoyed so much about this book. I read it really quick, and I smiled and grinned the whole time. I enjoyed Andy Carpenter's sarcasm so much, I think I am going to have to steal some of his lines! I will definately read the rest of the books in this series.

Another new author for me. Good story, interesting characters, good plotting, kept me reading and wanting to see what happens next. That's what I call a good read. I will add David Rosenfelt to my list of authors to read in the future.

I love the David Rosenfelt series -- this is the first of several.. It is humorous, suspenseful -- and keeps me hooked till the very end. And if readers are sports fans, animal lovers, or both -- they will enjoy Andy's mysteries even more.

The main character has the snide but intelligent humor of Sean Drummond (in the Brian Haig novels) and the book moves at a breathtaking clip - one could not accuse the writer of boring with details. However, that same headlong race to get through the set-up for a new trial of a convicted killer, the trial preparation, and the trial itself, in the midst of an investigation of a personal family incident that may tie to the trial, means that there is no chance to feel anything about the characters and their experiences. The characters don't feel much either. Very predictable conclusion (spoiler here: don't all rich college boys have a murder in their background to hide for 50 years?).

I was looking around for a change in reading material and came across Dog Tripping. I picked it out because of the rescuing of the dogs and the journey they all took. I looked into the author and seen the other books he has written and like the way they flowed and was hooked. If I ever need an attorney I would like to have him.

Love this audiobook. I would read (listen to) anything written by David Rosenfelt, he is a wonderful writer. And the narrator - Grover Gardner - is one of the best out there. In fact I search "audio books narrated by Grover Gardner" before I review books. Such as "First Degree" David Rosenfelt's debut novel. Open and Shut, is the second novel to follow the charming lawyer Andy Carpenter, a wise-cracking millionaire defense attorney. Next in the series is "Leader of the Pack". I can't wait!

I've just discovered this author a few months ago and I just love reading his books. They are so entertaining in the respect that he has a tongue in cheek way in his writing and wit to boot. He is an animal lover which is why I probably also like his books. He is a lawyer who defends people that he knows are innocent (for the most part) It is just lighthearted and a page turner to boot.

The bitting humor and self-depreciation of the main character remind me of Isaac Asimov. If you like strong plots, great characters and dogs, David Rosenfelt mysteries are probably going to become part of the dog-eared selections of your library.

I love the Andy Carpenter series by David Rosenfelt. I just read my first one two weeks ago and have gone back for more. I've read 5 now and there are 5 more to go. Each one is a complete story by itself but some of the same characters appear again, like his girlfriend Laurie or his body guard Marcus. Andy has a very dry wit and I find myself laughing out loud alone in my room. I hope David writes fast and never quits.
