First in the Company of Rogues series, this one introduces all of the main characters. Jo Beverley is a "must read" for any Regency and Georgian era reader. Well written, great character development, and wonderful duel story line make this a great beginning to a great series.

There were so elements to this book - good, bad, greed, hope and charity/love. The characters all had so many layers to them. This was more than a romance. This was about people making hard choices. Was any of it necessary? It's clear as humans we will always find a way or ways to complicated our lives.

Brother arranges for sister to be raped,.. raper then arranges for his brother to marry the poor raped woman. Husband is a spy who spent most of the time doing his backstabbing mistress..there was a plot but it was mostly alluded to..glad I only spent.99 cents..

Nicholas, what a gentleman. That's exactly what he was. Eleanor and him together were just enchanting. Although I'd like to have experienced more tempers in these two. And how forgiving Eleanor was of Nicholas job descriptions. I enjoyed this book. I still feel like there was a mystery cliffhanger at the end of it but alas, I'm off to the next book in the series.

What an intriguing story. Sad for Eleanor. It's a wonder that she was able to hold her head up! I like that Nicholas had to deal with the consequences of his arrogance and the fury of a woman scorned. Can't wait to read all 14 books in the series. I want Therese Bellaire to be found and be sent to prison along with Eleanor's brother.

Eleanor is a woman. Therefore Eleanor loves Nicholas Delaney. Fortunately she is married to him. Unfortunately he is entangled (in EVERY sense of the word) with a sultry traitor who is up to her pretty bosom in deceit and information about a possible escape from Elba by our old nemesis, Napoleon. The question is, can Eleanor and Nicholas' fragile marriage survive? (Hint: It IS written by Jo Beverley, one of the absolute winners in romantic tales.)

This book was the introduction of Jo Beverley's "Company of Rogues" series, which is delightful. Nicholas is the premier rogue and all of them are cool, so proceed from there. Eleanor is a heroine of some depth and a worthy consort. It is important to an understanding of the initial premise is the knowledge that, at the time of the story, homosexuality was not only considered shameful, but was a serious criminal offense. It was kept deeply in the closet. This story is about rape and its aftermath, and about the strength of the two main characters in the face of its destruction. It is an excellent book, and a lovely romance. I recommend it, along with the rest of the series, to lovers of the genre.

Jo Beverley is one of my favorite authors. When I was younger and working I haunted the book stores for Jo Beverly's books. This book (An Arranged Marriage) is one I read many years ago. I was so glad when I saw it listed on the store for my Kindle. This story is the first in a whole series of which she calls "The Company of Rogues". Each book is complete on its own and each is very interesting. Because of bullies a group of boys band together and form a pact. The books are about them as young adults and the problems they have in the Regency era. This book is about Nicholas and his wife and the difficult times they have while he is working to keep the country safe. The other Rogues are also in this story. Each has their own story in the next books. This is a love story very well told.

I absolutely love the rogue books! Each story is a unique adventure and romance. This one is no exception. The commonality is that any one of the rogues might make an appearance and it enhances the story.

Well written without overly graphic sex. Plot is unusual but believable and compelling. True to period with well drawn characters. Think more Georgette Heyer and less "bodice ripper". Recommended. I will be buying the rest of this series.

I have search for Nicholas's story for several years due to my interest in the "Rouges" series. Finally, after I got my Kindle, I found it on the store. I notice it didn't have the best reviews here.
I am glad I was finally able to read Elenor & Nicholas' story. It was not a typical romance, but it was important for the resolution of the rest of the series.
I thought it was well written, which wasn't surprising, since I am a great fan of Beverly's work. If you like this series, you won't regret purchasing this novel. After all, there aren't very many authors in this genre who equal Jo Beverly!

This Regency story is so compelling reading that you don't want to put down the book until each word has been read. I would recommend this story to any one especially my Daughter-in-law who loves Regency period stories.

I am stopping at page 118 and burning this book. On how many levels can I possibly express how offended I am by this book.? Sorry but I'm not seeing how to romance can be wrapped around a rape. And add about page 118, at the heroine's husband ask her why she can't just put it behind her and going to become friends again, or at least cordial, with her rapist, who happens to be his brother. That is not the first time in which she is told to basically get over it. Yes, some may argue that it reflects a historically correct perspective. At the same time, there are many phenomenally entertaining and empowering historical romances out there with a strong heroine.

Jo Beverley is an excellent, award-winning romance author and I look forward to reading her stories. As it turns out, this story is the first one she ever wrote. Unfortunately, she picked a challenging and complicated premise upon which to build her love story, and then couldn't pull it off. (Frankly, I'm not sure anyone could.) It starts off with one of the most real and graphic rapes I've ever read (heroine is drugged and held down), and it only gets worse from there. That's because for about 75% of the story, the married "hero" Nicky is involved in a sleazy, highly charged, blatant and erotic love affair with another woman while Eleanor, his wife (and the heroine) stays home alone trying to keep a stiff upper lip and incubate a baby. How preposterous, disturbing and depressing! (Definitely not the escape I'm looking for.) While I'm not sure if anyone could bring forth a successful, romantic love story with that kind of foundation material, Beverley makes a bad situation worse with sloppy writing, shallow leads and an awkward, weird, meandering and utterly preposterous plot! I am shocked at how unfulfilled I felt after finishing this Jo Beverley story. The only real surprise is that I actually read the entire story - but that's because its filled with interesting secondary characters that I'd already met in future C of R stories. Nevertheless, it is unnecessary to read this story in order to follow and enjoy the Company of Rogues series and I recommend AGAINST reading it, since it may taint your impression of the series and Nick & Eleanor. The reader will continue to catch up with the hero and heroine in future Company of Rogues stories, and meet them in a more favorable light. Enjoy and appreciate them at that time.

Tried to finish the book but couldn't stomach the h anymore *sighed. I pushed and pushed myself to see when she will grow a bone but up 65% I just had it highly unlikely it'll happen.

Of course becoming a doormat wife is a 100% better choice than her previous life (living with her abusive family), but I rather see her found her way out using her wits and her brain than seeing a female lead like this one. Ugh!!

The h raped by H's twin brother but he took the blame and married her. However he already had a commitment and had to stay with his mistress to achieve his goal. So he divided his time between his mistress (more time with her), than her. During this era is a normal lives however compared to other HR books with a similar plots h on this book just TSTL.

I hate to read a female protagonist that are weak, a doormat, no self respect, becoming a mistress, and too young which h in this book almost cover all of them except the last two.

Book #2 I like the h but the mistress involvement and they become bff just way over the top.

Book #4 it's okay but the way they kissing each other spouses another unbelievable scenes during this era. Come on JB u are a better writer than this. All the female leads on this series very desperate and from unfortunate circumstances. Thankfully I just borrowed them from Kindle unlimited. Overall I rated this series a C-.

Book #3 - in progress;

Book #5 - will skip this one, dont like its plot

First in a series. Intrigue, villainy, and conspiracy. Misguided service to the crown.
Fairly well edited.

Eleanor is caught in an untenable situation by the times. Dependent on her wastrel brother, at least until she turns 25, she is forced to live under his roof while he lives a completely reprobate life. Circumstances cause her to flee and she finds herself relying on the unlikeliest of persons. Not long after, she agrees to marry Nicholas Delaney, twin brother of her rescuer. Eleanor thinks Nicholas is someone that he is not, although that little misunderstanding is cleared up rather quickly. What is not reconciled so easily is the intrigue that Nicholas has already gotten caught up in. In service to the crown, he has resumed a relationship with a previous paramour. This takes quite the toll on his fledgling marriage. Nicholas calls on childhood friends (The Company of Rogues) to help him and to protect Eleanor. As Nicholas works to resolve his mission, he finds that the web is bigger and more intricate than first thought. Will he ever be able to extricate himself? Will he ever be able to have the marriage he wants with Eleanor?

A good start to the series. Although, the manner in which Nicholas is tasked with his mission and the indifference to the personal toll it takes on him is a little unsettling. Nonetheless, Enjoy.
