Harriet Manning, Harry for short, is preparing to celebrate the upcoming nuptials of her cousin Emmaline and Edward Hart but all she can think about is Edward's brother. He is the rogue she gave her virginity and her heart to five years ago and he destroyed it. After so long she would have thought she had become immune to him and her body's reaction to him . To fight it she attacks him verbaly every chance she gets and the same with Garret.
Lord Garret Hart, does not want to attend his brother's wedding because he doesn't want to the see the Harry who he believes betrayed him and broke his heart. He tries to talk his brother, the duke, out of making him attend this week long stay and wedding, to which he has to stay in the very home with said Medusa but his brother doesn't give him that reprieve. Lord Garret accepts the inevitable and sets out to destroy Harry. His heart is still bleeding . He tries to belittle her with words like harry does to him.
While you are reading this story it goes back and forth , telling you what happened when they meet ( it was 5 years) . They both have strong feelings for each other and everyone in the family sees it . Edmond ( his brother ) and the duke play a little trick on him . Harrys cousins do the same to her. They are trying to bring both of them together and not to through their love away . Garrets father the old duke played them against each other . Their is a huge part of the story that does say about the wedding . Get it and find out does the dukes plan work . do they get together. Does Edmond and Emmaline get married. You meet an earl in this story the Earl of Carlyle. He knows how to play both Harry and Garret along. Cant wait to read his story .

Harriet Manning and Garret Hart were once in love, but due to the machinations of his father who disapproved of the match, they are now enemies. When they meet again at a house party, sparks fly.
This is a quick read, really more of a novella. The story is based on Much Ado About Nothing and follows it fairly closely, but the banter generally falls short of being as witty as the original. As some other reviewers noted, it's unusual when the reader likes the villain more than the hero (and his brothers), but I felt the same way. Neither Harriet or Garret were very likeable in my opinion unlike the half-brother, John, who was more mature in his dealings.

Harriet Manning and Lord Garrett Hart once came within a whisker of a carriage ride to Gretna Green despite the differences in their stations before circumstances and conniving relatives led them both to believe the other had betrayed them. Now they have to be civil to one another during the wedding festivities of Harriet's cousin to Garret's brother, a difficult task for two strong-willed individuals determined to show no weakness in the presence of the enemy. Pushed together, the possibility of a reconciliation looms before yet more mean-spirited conniving and lack of trust drive the two families apart, destroying both the possibility of their reunion and the planned wedding. Yet both Harriet and Garret sense something is amiss. Can they get to the bottom of the plot and identify the callous culprit behind the subterfuge before everyone's lives are permanently scarred?
In the Rogue and I, Eva Devon has weaved together an intriguing Regency story in which only one couple get their happy-ever-after. The dark side of love is not hate but fear, mistrust and lack of empathy. Her portrait of scheming troublemakers and their ability to mislead and hurt the honest and the naive is realistic, compelling and somewhat disturbing. As in life, some of the characters grow in strength through the experience and some seem to fall apart. This is the first book in Eva's Must Love Rogues series, and I am hoping that through the series good will triumph and HEAs flow.

When I read a historical by Eva Devon I always know to expect laughs aplenty and a romp of a romance. This book definitely doesn't let you down. Throw in a witty heroine who can't stand our hero and a hero who loves to loathe our heroine, and you know you're in for a good time.

Harriet, or Harry to her friends and family, has a reputation for saying exactly what she thinks and she knows she's unconventional. She's also pretty adamant that there isn't a man she wants to marry, but it's not public knowledge that the reason she eschews marriage is because her heart was broken by none other Lord Garret Hart. Her sharp and biting sparring with Garret has become well known amongst the ton, even if the cause of their mutual dislike is unknown to others. Harry is a really fun heroine, I loved her intelligence and exuberance. I also liked that she could be vulnerable, and she's not emotionally closed off.

Garret is determined to remain a bachelor for a long, long time. He's been burned by love in the past after Harry's betrayal and he thinks marriage is basically a terrible idea, so he's not thrilled to be attending his brother's wedding to Harry's cousin. Garret is a fun hero as well, with a mind to match Harry's and he's very sweet at times.

Garret and Harry make a wonderful couple. They both hide their hurt and protect their hearts by lashing put at the other, but the chemistry between them is as strong as ever. I loved the flashbacks to their early relationship. It was so purely passionate and innocent, void of the pain they come to experience.

This is such an enjoyable and heartfelt romance. Garret and Harry clash in a pretty fun fashion, but once they start to reconcile it's enough to make you swoon. You find yourself desperately wishing they can find their HEA together. The rest of the characters add to the storyline, and the events surrounding Emmeline's (Harry's cousin) and Edward's (Garret’s brother) wedding were pretty heartbreaking at first. I loved the way Emmeline grows and strengthens during these events, and I'm glad her storyline played out the way it did in the end. I'm not giving more away there since I suspect and hope her story is on the way!
Honestly this is my favourite Eva Devon book to date. It made me laugh out loud on the train (alot) and wipe away a few surreptitious tears. I definitely recommend this to everyone.

*I received a review copy from the author for my honest opinion. Thank you!

Ms Devon consistently delivers laughter.
In this lovely little Regency, she takes the "Much Ado About Nothing" trope, transplants it to England and a country house party with a wedding planned for the end, and lets the good times roll.
The characters develop fast. Like, really fast. By the end of the first page, the girls are established. And the men build as quickly - even the initially absent John! The trope is obvious, and she adheres to it pretty thoroughly. I especially like that she adds an explanation for the apparent dislike between Beatrice - err, I mean HARRIET and our hero. These flashbacks are splendid, as is the ending they allow.
I just wish John would ever get some final comeuppance!

This is my first book by this author. Harry ( Harriet ) and Garret are brought together again after 5yrs to attend his brother and her cousins wedding. After breaking the others heart, will they be able to trust again? I loved the book and will definitely add her other books TBR list. If you're looking for an new author, start with Ms. Devon's The Rogue and I. I received the book from the author for a honest review.

Great book, love and banter! Recommend! My favorite of the series. I like the love story and how underneath it all, a love was there. I could see how Shakespeare's Beatrice and Benedict was the inspiration. The plot moves along well and it isnt a happy ending for all.. nice change rather than everything wrapped up in a bow at the end.

Amazing story; quite unexpected! I liked the format of occasionally switching the narrative to the past; it helped the reader to understand the characters. There's a large amount of angst, but a lot of happiness, too. All of the characters are interesting but the hero and the heroine were delightful!

With a backdrop of lovers with mistaken deceptions, this book brings forth a hot romantic story of Harry and Garret. I love the two protagonists and feel for their mistrust and angst due to the same. The side characters of all of Harry and Garret's siblings are really interesting and I cannot wait to read more about their stories! Excellent read!

Amazing Story! A passionate story filled with intrigue, sparkling dialogue, and colorful characters. There were so many stories within the main story that made the book so much more interesting and hard to put down. I can't wait to read her next book of this series! Happy reading!
