This is a great read. Very well written and helpful in dealing with loss. If you or someone you know is going through any type of loss you will be encouraged by this book. It is written very sensitively, and with great understanding by the author who went through a tragic loss. I will continue to share this with people I come across who are experiencing a loss.

After my wife was recently killed in an auto accident, people gave me 8-10 different books in an attempt to encourage me. This was by far the best of the books I read. Sittser went through a horrendous loss of three family members. Three years later he puts his experience in book form (he is a highly skilled writer) and clearly traces how his experience drove him back to the Big Questions of life and why he has more deeply embraced the Judeo-Christian explanation of our human condition. I wept and was thankful all through the reading of "A Grace Disguised". His book was highly persuasive towards the hope that he continues to embrace.

What ever happens in your life, the author, who has experienced major loss and grief, helps one make the events in their life, part of their life story - what makes them who they are. And, God is involved every step of the way.

Reading this book is like sitting with the author and processing loss as two friends helping one another. I was able to face loss in my own life and ask and answer questions. I highly recommend this book.

I discovered this book 10 years ago after the death of my older sister. I thought I stumbled across this book by accident at a bookstore, but I know now that it was no accident. I am reading this book for the third time and it will never be put away on a shelf. It has new meaning and insight each time I read it over again. This little book is a gift from God.

Very well written and insightful book. While it tells his story, it isn't solely about his story but about the grace and blessings you can gain through a tragedy if you are open to it and try. Thank you. A book everyone going through a tragic loss should read.

Since my husband died, I have been given many books to console my grief. None have left me with the comfort that this one has. It leaves you with the feeling that if he can get through his loss, which was enormous then I can too. It also strengthened my faith knowing that God does have a plan for us all.

A most sensitive and courageous look at loss which penetrates your mind, heart and soul. The author shares his personal experience in such a way that the reader can apply it to almost every experience of loss whether loss of a loved one or loss of a job. It resonates with all areas of personal loss.

This book was not only heart wrenching but you felt the pain throughout the book. One death is horrible but three at the same time is beyond tragic. Thank goodness who had great friends and God. I understood his pain and that of his kids because I have lost a son who was a Marine Sgt.and a sheriff deputy. Although our stories are different the pain, agony are similar. This is a must read. It helps one understand what those who experience this kind of tragedy are going through.

This is our FAVORITE book on grief and loss! When I first met my husband he had just lost his wife to cancer and I recommended this book to him. He read the book three times and he and we have given about 100 copies of this book away to those going through grief and loss. It is the BEST book we've ever read on grief and loss and stands alone! By the way, we got married 3 years after we met.

This is an excellent book to help a person through any kind of loss. Identifies what grief is and how to go through the process of the darkness. Mr. Sittser very honestly and candidly explains and describes the emotional ups and downs of grief. A very helpful source for people who are in pain.

The author lost his mother, wife, and daughter in one car accident (he and his other children survived the accident). The book shares how he dealt with it from a Christian but very real perspective. No platitudes or "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" nonsense. It was very helpful to me after my wife died.

Incredible book of a father and husband's journey through hell and his recovery by leaning fully on his faith. Why do bad things happen to innocent people, where is justice in our lives? Jerry Sittser offers hope with an intentional plan laid before us. He offers hope to heal from paralyzing loss.

Painful read for the disaster turned into life changing blessing of grace. Grace upon grace. Helped my perspective on my less than horrible life issues and embrace the grace Jesus provides, Paul champions through distress and the Spirit delivers when all we can do is groan. Loved the followup Epilogue update. Thanks for opening you and your family's heart and pain.

No one will escape this life without loss. Recognize yourself in this ultimate of losses. Christ endured the pain of the cross for the joy set before him. And I am not talking about the physical pain although we all know there was plenty of that. Treat yourself to kindness, love, acceptance... the situation you may be in is in need of some. You will not regret it.

the author truly understands what God's grace is. While it is not entirely possible for someone to reach that level of understanding without personally experiencing devastating grief, reading this book comes closer to giving the kind of understanding.

Perhaps the best book on working through grief and receiving God's grace in the midst of pain, change, and uncertain circumstances. One man's journey is exposed for the benefit of all. Good also for group discussion.
