The book gave me the greatest insite of the project that I have ever seen. The story is told from start to finish. Anyone interested in WW II in the Pacific would be intrigued. I can't put the book down.

Great book, describes what I've read and heard about in the past. This time from a person who was actually there to witness the events and treatment of allied POWs and refugees from all sides. Political expediency over humane treatment.

This is a fascinating and AMAZING account of World War II from another member of "the greatest generation". Thank goodness Lee Trimble captured this story in time. If you enjoyed the story of Louis Zamparini, you will also appreciate this book. I will read it over again!

very good story of difficult mission near the closing days of the war in Europe, the mission and this personal story are not well known and few history books mention in detail the ordeal of downed pilots and the refugees held in Russian occupied poland

From an American POV. Convincing horror. A glimpse of Birkenau, Feb 1945, and worse. The landscape of Hades, 70 years later, unsolved. Spaatz is a surprise, linking nightmare to nightmare. Recommended for strong minds. J

This was different from any event I had read. The completion of35 missions, the climax of most books, is at the beginning. From there, the pilot in question made a choice. Take another assignment and go to his family without returning for another tour, or go home for 28 days and return for another 35 missions He chose the former. From there, no other assignment I have read compares. Get ready for one of the least known events of European WW2. Then ask your self what kind of ally USSR was. Highly recommend it..
