This is an excellent book for anyone just learning how to cook through the occasionally cooker. This book goes into detail in many situations where most authors generally assume the user knows how, which like I mentioned is greatly beneficial to anyone new in the kitchen and I even found a couple of tips that helped me.

Fantastic cookbook. I gave one to each of my kids. The pictures guide you to what it should look like, step by step. Wonderful buying guides, great party planning and menu planning advice, helpful for establishing a new grad in his/her own apartment. Highly recommended!

BY FAR the best beginner's cookbook on the market...pictures, great directions, what you need in your kitchen. You can not be a good cook with out the proper equipment and learning the basics. Buy for Newlywed's or College Grads. EASY to read and large book, covers EVERYTHING!

I purchased this book for my granddaughter who was moving into her first apartment. She told me she "loves it" and read it front to back cover right away. She has had great success with a number of recipes and techniques already. This pleased me so much that I bought a copy for a grandson and son also! I found the book very clear and beautifully and helpfully illustrated with all those photos. It is great for beginners who definitely are interested in "real" cooking and techniques, but also a great guide for more experienced cooks who want to review their techniques. The master recipes offer guides to varying the recipe, by just changing some of the ingredients. Excellent book.

Purchased for daughter who recently moved out to go to college. Has step by step directions for cooking everything, simple, easy to follow instructions using everyday ingredients so you don't have to spend half the day looking for a specialty ingredient that you may never use again. A must have for the beginner and seasoned cook.

I selected this cookbook (along with the Betty Crocker 2012 cookbook) as starters for my niece's collection. She is 19 and off on her own at college, and this seems to be a well illustrated (important) and engaging book to kindle her beginning interest in the subject. Future dinner invitations (hint) will be telling!

Currently using this cook book to learn how to cook pretty much everything. I like it. So far I've used a couple recipes and the food tastes so good and the book goes into so much detail about how to do everything from scrambling an egg to making top of the line desserts. Recommended for beginners.

It was delivered on time and in good conditions. The book is recommended to me by my daughter, so I guess the recipes are good, but so far I have not tried any recipie in it, so can't offer any comment on that.

Cooking was overwhelming. I bought this book. No regrets. I recommend this to anyone who doesn't know where to begin with cooking or can't figure out why everything they make tastes like burnt Marshmallows.

My daughter requested a basic cookbook...but not one designed just for college students with limited menus and techniques. She wanted one for the long term. She loves it and sent me a photo of her first meal on her i-phone!

Bought this cookbook along with the Betty Crocker Cooking Basics because I could not decide between the two. I was not disappointed. Great recipes, easy to follow and shows you what the finished product should look like. Good variety and tells you what else you can serve with what was prepared. One thing that I would have liked was that the book be spiral . I will need to use a book stand to keep the page open, otherwise there is nothing wrong with the book.

This cookbook teaches basic cooking skills using wonderful pictures and great descriptions. I got two of my older grandchildren this book. I wish I had this cookbook years ago when I was learning how to cook.

Excellent resource. All those things I wished I'd learned when I was younger (Home Ec, anyone?) ... explained simply and deliciously! Have made many recipes from the book and all were successful. Very helpful tips ... do I need to wash raw poultry? how about fish? etc. We first bought this for our 20-something babysitter and we liked it so much, we got one for ourselves.
