One of a series of delightful adventures in which the young hero finds a creative way to best a less-than-mellow adult tormentor. Great illustrations enhance another brilliant children's book that is very adult in theme and execution.

My daughter and I wanted to really enjoy this book. Based on the jacket flap description, we thought this book was going to be a clever and fun read. The author did make the grandmother a truly wretched and horrible human being. But the author's solution was to make the grandmother shrink to the point that she disappeared. While her daughter was initially upset about what was happening, the whole family rather quickly accepted the concept that grandma was now gone and didn't seem to care if she might still be alive but too small to see and weren't concerned with finding a way to bring her back. I'm just concerned about the message conveyed in this book. My daughter hated the story as well.

I mean...look. I understand this is Roald Dahl, so you need to just sort of go with the flow and enjoy it as it comes. We've all read Matilda, we know how that goes and all the wicked but funny things Matilda gets up to, and we laugh it off because they always deserved it. I didn't feel this was the case with this one.

George's grandmother may have been grumpy and annoying and lazy and demanding, but she wasn't necessarily cruel. She didn't deserve to shrink until she's completely disappeared from their lives. Also, George concocts this marvellous medicine from a bunch of very dangerous products to be consumed individually let alone all mixed together. Now again, I KNOW this is a Roald Dahl book. I get it. Maybe if I were a child reading this I'd be laughing at it and enjoying it tremendously. I'm not though. I'm an adult and a mother of two, so I read this and I can't help thinking about the message that is being sent to children. Not only in terms of what to do to your grandmothers if you're upset with them, but in terms of playing with cleaning detergents and beauty products and so on.

Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan.

I can honestly say I’ve never read anything like George’s Marvelous Medicine. It is mental to such a level that you have to shake your head and laugh at the lack of any redeemable lesson this book may take.

Here’s the premise. There’s George. He has a granny. He doesn’t like her very much. She’s not very nice either and calls him lazy and chastises him for growing too much. She is physically, audibly, aromatically, and emotionally unpleasant. So when George’s tells him to take care of granny, stay out of trouble, and give her her medicine at the correct time, he finds himself having an epiphany: to make granny’s medicine from scratch and teach her a lesson.

The level of nutty, whacky, naughty, and wicked comedy ensues were just listing the ingredients of the marvelous medicine would send you to an ER. But it doesn’t send granny to the ER. It has such an effect that when George’s father arrives home, he asks the boy to replicate the medicine.

This book is bonkers but in a fun way. A quick 2 hr read if that but every new addition makes you cringe… and then the effects the medicine has. Just nuts. Definitely a fun read that needs to be taken with a grain of salt (and curry, and pepper, and flea powder). A fun read for young audiences or if you’re an adult looking to give firecrackers to your inner child.

I am writing a review of George's marvelous medicine by Roald dahl . A very creative author. Roald Dahl he made lots of creative, fun books, like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Some of his books are movies. He was 8 years old when he started writing.

This book is about a boy named George and his Grandma. His Grandma is wicked because she says evil things ,so instead of George giving Grandma her normal medicine he gives her a fake Medicine that he has made up.

My favourite part of the book is when George feeds Grandma the super Medicine because it is so funny!

I like this part because then Grandma screams “OWEEEE”and her body shot in the air like electricity! I disliked the part when she was being mean to George because she was saying she was a Witch.

My favourite characters in the book are George and Grandma. I like these characters because George makes the Marvellous Medicine and gives it to Grandma. I likeGrandma because she is funny in a way to me.

I would recommend this book to people that of all ages .

George's mean, horrible, awful Grandma gets her medicine every day, and today it's George's responsibility to give it to her. But George wonders if maybe he could come up with something... different for Grandma. Something... special. Something... MARVELOUS.

I remembered loving this book at a child, so as a grown-up I wanted to share it with my son. I still enjoyed it, but it was a very different experience to read it as an adult!

Roald Dahl has quite a way with words and story lines, and he's in high form here with this whimsical yet dark tale. Classic Dahl. The descriptions are particularly fine. The brew as it nears completion, Grandma's transformation. Excellent.

However, I ran into two big problems reading it as a parent. First, the language specifically and the way the characters treat each other more generally. Grandma is a really terrible person and treats George horribly. Honestly, I can accept that as part of the story. But the words she uses, and the words used to describe her... jeez, I really do not want to be showing my son that it's OK to describe someone as an old hag. As another reviewer wrote, this book is full of "characters who lack character". And in the end, there's certainly no moral about treating others well, despite Grandma's fate.

My second problem - and I expect frequently people can only appreciate this if they're parents themselves - is that George's medicine IS FULL OF POISON THAT WILL KILL WHOEVER TAKES IT. Not only that, but it's completely glorified. The magic! The power! The glory! I'm REALLY glad my son and I read this when he was 9 and not any younger. It's not hard to imagine a child reading this and then going on to create his own 'Marvelous Medicine'. Hopefully he will not actually try to feed it to anyone. Antifreeze... *shudder*.

George’s grandma is staying to babysit George, while his parents are away. His grandma is always grouchy and mean. George is tall as his grandma, his grandma doesn't like it so she thinks tall people are stupid. So George tries to make a medicine to make the grandma grow.
Will Georges medicine work? Read the book and find out!
My favorite part is when George's grandma keeps asking if it's time to get her medicine, but he says no even though it's past time.
I would recommend reading this book because it is humorous.
You would like this book if you like fiction.

Roald Dahl's "George's Marvelous Medicine" is a fun little story with a very deep mean streak. The story is essentially about a young boy who feeds his grandmother is own concoction of medicine instead of her prescribed medicine; the grandmother then undergoes a transformation extra-ordinary. I will say no more about the plot, which is simple enough.

While the story is simple and the artwork is used to illustrate the passages to better effect than most other of Dahl and Blake's collaborations, I have a serious problem with the vindictive nature of one of the characters at the end, when the character essentially roots for another's demise. (Suffice it to say, I get the impression that Dahl had in-law issues.)

Overall, it's a quick read and will amuse kids, but the underlying darkness of many of Dahl's works is much more overt in this story.

I imagine plenty of people have said "um, this book is sort of dangerous because it teaches kids you can just poison people if they're unforgivably rotten to you," but I don't think there are many kids who would actually do anything like this, even if they believed it would change the size or shape of a person or animal instead of just, you know, killing them. What I do think is that it inspires the idea that you can passive-aggressively punish someone and give them something they deserve by messing with their food, and that's pretty horrible. But even setting aside the bad message, I didn't care for the book much at all. Didn't find it fun. Didn't like George, or his parents, or his grandmother (of course); I didn't actually root for anyone. I think the way the grandmother talked was designed to make her seem like she deserved whatever punishment the story could give her, but in real life anyone who talks like that to a child should not be left alone with one. Not that Roald Dahl adults are usually "real life" in any way--sure, they're designed to be caricatures--but basically it's no wonder a kid like George thought poisoning his grandma was a good way to get back at her when he's being raised by adults like these.

Not to mention that at the end, when his grandmother disappears after drinking a different version of the potion, the parents basically just shrug and agree that she was a pain anyway, and all George can think about is "wow I had a weird magical experience!" He had some fear and some amazement but not an apparent smidge of guilt. The whole thing just felt weirdly mean-spirited and not funny or whimsical the way some other Roald Dahl books felt to me.

George's Marvelous Medicine is a Roald Dahl classic. It is cute and funny but not one of my favorites of Dahl's (I tend to prefer his books for older kids). I also got a little queasy at the idea of encouraging kids to mix household cleaners and motor oil together as a medicine. Most children will realize that it's just humor, but this book is written for a rather young audience and some kids may still be adventurous enough to try something similar themselves. In short, make sure you know what your kid is reading, and have pertinent discussions about truth and fantasy. In the unlikely scenario that you don't know anything about Roald Dahl: he has a dark (and gross) sense of humor. His books tend to be a bit silly plot-wise, but children just gobble them up. Dahl is a great writer for getting kids interested in reading. He has written a range of books for younger and older kids, and this book is for perhaps 6-8 year olds. If you don't mind a bit of gross yuckiness and a wide range of purposefully unlikable adult characters, Roald Dahl has written some great ones!

Roald Dahl is a flavor that I shamelessly enjoy. Laughter is truly the best medicine, especially when you're doing it with people you love (we read this in less than 2 hours on a car ride), and Dahl always delivers.

I could totally see this as a writing prompt in an English class: "Write a story about a boy who has to stay home with his grandmother for the day." Could be quite ordinary, but not with Roald Dahl. Poor George has a terribly grouchy grandmother who constantly criticizes him about everything and orders him to do things for her. On this day he gets sick of it. He has been told at at 11:00 she needs her medicine, and since he has seen no benefit from her regular medicine, he decides to make his own using a big variety of items found around his house and farm. The results (and three more batches of medicine) are the rest of the story.

We had so much fun with this one, we started another Roald Dahl the day after finishing it.

George's grandmother is an absolutely wicked old woman, who delights in nothing more than being mean to George and making him uncomfortable. After a particularly grueling encounter with the old bat which makes him frightened, George tries to think of a way to teach his grandmother a lesson. As with so many other Dahl protagonists, he hits upon a brilliant and daring plan. He decides to replace her medication with "Georges Marvelous Medicine," which he makes by mixing up a witch's brew of household items. He knows that it's magical, but not what it will do. And that's when things get even more entertaining.

Once again, Roald Dahl has created a masterpiece that will keep children enthralled by presenting a forbidden fantasy; in this case, taking revenge on a wicked, persecuting adult who seems protected by the envelope of invulnerability that adults seem to have.

This is a very slim book, and even a casual young reader should be able to plow through it in one or two sittings. I remember that, after I read it for the first time as a boy, I coudn't put my finger on exactly what I had enjoyed so much. The plot is very simple, and I couldn't answer my own question. I finally just decided that I liked it all; every page and scene is entertaining.

Children and adults will love the humor that this book represents. While Dahl comes under fire from some parents, I feel that the tongue-in-cheek nature of the book makes itself known to children; in the same way that they know they can't throw a bucket of water on a wicked woman to melt her (ala The Wizard of Oz), they'll know that they can't be poisoning the unpleasant old people in their life. Above all, this is a fun story, and children will love to see the unpredictable effects of the magic brew that George creates.

Highly recommended.

George's Marvelous Medicine - Roald Dahl
Illustrated - Quentin Blake Revied by Bonnie F. age8
Did you ever live with a grumpy crazy old grandma? George did.
So...one day when both his parents are out &George has to give his grandma her medicine,
he realizes his grandma's medicine just made her grumpier. So , he decides to make his own
medicine. To make his own medicine, he goes roaming around the house putting in anything
he was allowed to touch. If you want to find out what happens, read the book!! I would recommend this book to children ages five & up who love fiction because this
is some of the best fiction ever written by one of the best fiction writers in the world in my opinion !! I've noticed a silly message: if you're dealing with a grumpy old grandma, you can be a little creative... just like George was!!
I liked when George sang that stupid song because after I read it I laughed my fool head off!! I think this is the perfect book for children that like to laugh!
If you like this book you can read his other books too!!

I read the book George's Marvelous Medicine. The book is about a kid named George and he has a grumpy old grandma so he decides to make her a new medicine. So he got a big stew pot to make his grandma a new medicine. He goes around the house to get ingredients anything he could find to put in the pot. He takes the pot back to the kitchen to boil the things. After she had some of it seemed like she was going to blow up. She just kept growing from the medicine and finally her head went through the roof. It looks like the kick of the medicine made her nicer instead of grouchy.

So after I read the book it was awesome. I recommend this book to anyone parents or kids. I think it was one of the best books I ever read.

Roald Dahl always pushed the envelope of children's literature. In books such as "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "James and the Giant Peach," he introduces wildly fantastical scenarios and does things that few children's authors would consider - child characters get hurt, parents die suddenly. The outrageousness makes his books memorable.

"George's Marvelous Medicine" is another example of Dahl's over-the-top style. George, a boy, mixes a concoction of toiletries, paints, animal medicines, antifreeze, motor oil and many other things, and then gives it to his obnoxious grandmother - and she grows taller than a house. Farm animals also get a taste, and more amazing things happen. It's funny, silly and delightful. I did find the ending a bit abrupt.

All that said, I can't imagine any teacher these days reading this book to a class. Who would risk having a student go home, start mixing together a bunch of chemicals and then drink it, thinking it would make him or her bigger. While I enjoyed "George's Marvelous Medicine," when I read it to my two kids, I said, more than once: "Don't try this at home!"

George's Marvelous Medecine is a brilliant book. George is being taken care of by his grandma, a mean, evil woman. So, instead of giving her her regular medecine, he cooks up one using every liquid and pill in the house and-well, you'll have to wait to see the rest. Roald Dahl has written a funny book full of mischief, medecine, and kid heros-if you loved Charlie and The Chocolate Factory you'll love this one!

George's Marvelous Medicine

George's Marvelous Medicine is about how a little boy who hates his grandmother. When it is time for him to feed his grandmother his medicine, he makes a concoction of different things. Although he was late in giving his grandmother his medicine, his grandmother still took it. You may be thinking, oh where are his parents or his guardian. Well, they left for an errand and left George's grandmother in charge. That was a bad idea, but nobody knew that George was thinking of a way to destroy his grandmother. He gave the medicine to his grandmother and something odd happened. His grandmother turned very long and tall. Her head broke up into the ceiling. She was literally taller then the house! Then George knew there was something odd about his medicine that he put together. So he decided to try it on a hen, a pig, bullocks, sheep, a gray pony, and finally a goat. One thing that he realized in all animals was that the medicine made it get bigger in size. Obviously his parents were outraged, and needed a place where grandma can sleep, and the only place was the barn, so she slept there for a while. George and his father needed something so that it would make his grandmother smaller. So they came up with another concoction. They gave the new medicine to George's grandmother and when they did she became smaller and smaller. She was so small that you can barely hear her scream or talk. Then some how George's grandmother became smaller and then disappeared into thin air. This was a good thing for George, but at first his mother going crazy. Then after a while she said that her mom disappearing was okay.

The thing that I disliked from this book was how George didn't like his grandmother at all. There is a quote about that talks about George not liking his grandmother and it is, "He really hated that horrid old witchy woman." How can you hate your grandmother so much that you think that she is horrid and somewhat like a witch? I love my grandmother very much and would never hate her even if she did something annoying, mean, and bad. Another thing that I didn't like about the book was that George's mother didn't think it was a big deal that her mother just disappeared. In the last page of the book it says, "Ah well, I suppose it's all or the best, really. She was a bit of a nuisance around the house, wasn't she?" If it were to be my mom that disappeared I would be crying my eyes out, and every time I would think about my mom I would be sad and depressed.

The part I liked in this book was how George tried it on all the animals and they all turned into a different size. The book says, "George gave a spoonful of the medicine to the pig. The pig blew smoke from its nose and jumped about all over the place. Then it grew and grew." The pig grew so big that it was big as an elephant. The pig was already big by itself and now it just got bigger. That was a hilarious part in the book. Another part that was funny was how George mixed up everything to make replace his grandmother's medicine. It says, "A handful of grease- to grease her creaking joints." When George was picking the ingredients he was very smart about picking each one the correct way.

My favorite part of the book was how George had taken so long just to replace his grandmother's medicine. Another thing that I couldn't believe was that his grandmother believed and trusted George for the medicine, even if he was late on giving it to her. I guess she is very gullible. I think George is a very smart boy, but he uses it for evil planning. Maybe that's why it's called his marvelous medicine.

George's grandmother is very mean. She never does anything for herself. In this book, George's grandmother lives with George. His mom is not a stay-at-home mom. She works, so does George's dad. So George is left home with his grandmother who is rude, selfish, and very very mean. George gives her medicine with a little twist.

This book is a good book for people whose grandmothers are mean. I loved this book because it was funny. I think you should read this book because it's a fun book and George and his grandmother fight a lot. Will George make his marvelous medicine again?
I hope you grow into George's Marvelous Medicine.

George’s Marvellous Medicine review
by Clara Allton.

I adore this book!! I wish I was George. I can’t believe that he is only 8 years old!! I mean most 8 year old children wouldn’t be able to do what he does.

I recommend this book for children aged 7 and over and adults. It’s a good bedtime story as well.

This is a briliant book about a boy called George and his Grandma who George hates. She has some brown medicine which she has at 11 o’clock in the morning. One day George is with her one his own. He has this crazy idea to make a medicine with really weird stuff in it. It has stuff like animal pills, shaving foam and flea powder. As you can imagine it had shocking results...but I won’t spoil it for you!

My favourite part is when George put’s all the stuff in the pot and cooks it and it goes the colour blue. I like it because of the discription Roald Dahl used for the little chapter like the rich pecock blue rose to the top of the pan. Yet again I will not spoil it for you especially if it’s your favourite part as well.

Please read it because it is so AMAZING!!!!!

1.) Its about George who makes this medicine to make his grandma dissapear. Instead with all his chemical ingredients she grows super tall. Then his dad comes home and gives it to the animals to make them supersized. George makes a second medicine to give to her and somthing weird happens.

2.) It was pretty good because of the suspension between George and his grandma. Also it was interesting how he makes the medicine.

3.) Suspence is a good story element to describe the book because you wander what will happen to the grandma and want to know what he uses to make the medicine.

4.) I gave it four stars because it's a funny book and interesting for a quick read. So anyone could read this book with any taste.

I like the book George's Marvelous Medicine by Roald Dahl. It is very funny, mostly because George makes a potion that makes his grandmother explode! Soon she grows too big for the house, because George tricked her, but I think she deserves it, because she is mean.

George's grandmother says things like: "Call the fire department. I'm on fire!" George puts thousands and thousands of ingredients in the medicine. For instance, he puts in: hair cream, shaving cream, shoe polish, and a ton of other things. Soon his father found out.

You should get it, or at least check it out at the library. Trust me you'll like it. The ending is so funny! Grandma had a bad ending, but the rest of George's family had a very happy one, because that wicked lady was gone forever! That's why I like the book George's Marvelous Medicine.

Please know before you read this review that this is my father's kindle and he said I should tell everybody that I am a 9 year old girl borrowing his kindle. It is about a boy who is so tired of is grandma he makes a horrible medicine for her. The effects of the medicine will NOT give your kid nightmarish nightmares. I think that it's a wonderfully wonderful book, but my mother says the mother was a bit beastly to the grandma at the end of the book, so that is why my review is missing a star!

Adorable! One mean old grandma + one small unsuspecting boy who hates his grandma + a bunch of stuff lying around to be used as a potion= one recipe for FUN! Kids will laugh and laugh when they hear what George mixes into his nasty grandmother's medication. Horse pills, engine oil, shampoo, lotion, and more will have your kids rolling on the floor! An excellent book for a laugh!

(Review written by my 9-year-old friend, Roberto the Bookworm): Among books by Roald Dahl, I've finished Danny, Champion of the World, The Twits, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and this book. In this one, George is an obedient boy who, about five years old. His grandma is mean and says she's a witch. She's a little like "The Twits" in the other Roald Dahl book. She drinks gin like Mr. Snoddy in Danny Champion of the World. She likes to eat slugs and earwigs, little insects with pinchers on the end. George makes some "medicine" out of toothpaste, laundry soap, antifreeze, animal medicine, and other items around the house. He even adds brown paint to make it look like his grandma's regular medicine. After she has a dose of George's medicine, she grows as tall as his house. Readers will have to see what else happens to her. I loved this book. It is a sly, sneaky, tricky, outrageous, and interesting book. I would recommend this book for kids my age or older (I am nine). Next up, Mathilda!

Roald Dahl's entire published work should be required reading. He's a magician. I loved all his books as a child and I recently bought them all to enjoy again as an adult. I have made my friends read them to spread his works to others.

This short story is written in the same style as most of his other works. Not everything about people or life is pretty -- but there's always something to learn from it. Roald Dahl uses vivid imagery, fun language, and immerses the reader.

Get it. Smile.

George's Marvelous Medicine is a very good book, it is exciting and funny, and you will want to read it again and again. If you read this story I would advise that you read more of Roald Dahl's books. My opinion about this story is that it is a very interesing and a 5 star story . I know that you will enjoy this story when you read it, and you will want to do a book review just like me now if you don't think that it is interesting enough I will tell you my favorite parts. I liked when he makes a chicken on his farm over 6 feet tall with his medicine. As you can see, that is not all of the funny parts, but I don't want to give it all away. I hope you enjoy it!

I somehow missed this short novel from Roald Dahl when I was younger. Now that I've read it, I can say yet again that Roald Dahl is a master of children's literature. His whimsical wordplay and fantastical elements always make for excellent read-alouds, and "George's Marvelous Medicine" is just plain fun (Sidenote: I just finished reading this aloud to a 12-year-old boy, and his face lit up with a smile many many times as we read it, so this book will appeal to kids of many ages!). The illustrations by Quentin Blake aptly reflect the playful nature of the story and text. While this is not my favorite from Roald Dahl (I think "Matilda" wins that prize), "George's Marvelous Medicine" is just a fun and funny read. I highly recommend this, for children and adults alike.

George's Marvelous Medicine is a great book. It's about a young boy that hates his very old grandother. She is so mean to George that he decides to make a marvelous medicine that will surprise her so much that she can't beleive what's happening to her. Overall this was a very good book, though in my opinion it wasn't better than Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.I think my favorite character would have to be George because he is the kind of person that always gets into mischeif. The character that was my least favorite was the grandmother because she was always mean to George. I would recomend this book to people of all ages.

`George's Marvellous Medicine' is another short, but exceptional masterpiece from Roald Dahl. George's grandmother is cantankerous and grumpy and George goes about concocting a `Marvellous Medicine' to put some pep in her step (and maybe even punish her a little bit as well). The descriptions as he mixes the medicine are delightful and you feel your excitement and trepidation grow as George gets ever closer to delivering his tonic to his Grandmother. The results, as you'd expect from Dahl, are pretty dramatic and create an excellent climax to this captivating story. Superbly illustrated by Quentin Blake this book weaves a story of mischief and magic that will delight kids of all ages.

Some books are good reads for children as well as adults. This particular book isn't one of them.

There were a number of things I didn't like about it. My most harsh criticism would be that I found it boring and predicable. ((And I won't even mention the that the idea of using household toxins as a "medicine" for grandma got my mom antennae twitching. Can't help it, it's an occupational mom-hazard.))

But this is just how the book struck me as an adult. And I'd be remiss not to mention that my 10 year-old daughter thought was great. She thought the drawings were very funny, and she got caught up in the story so that we read the all of "George's Marvelous Medicine" in one day.

So THE SKINNY is that this is an amusing book for young folk, but not so much for adults-- at least not this one. The writing is good. The book is an excellent Read-aloud. The reading level is 4.0.

Would you like to read George's Marvelous Medicne by Roald Dahl? It is a mysterious story and takes place at a farm house. George's grandma is grouch and George wanted to make her nice. So he cooks up a potion with lots of unusual stuff. My favorite character is George because he is smart and like to mess up things. He is not like other boys because he has mean Grandma. I like mystery story so I choose this book. If you like mystery, you will love this book. By a third grader, Fresno.

Can you imagine having a grandmother that is as tall as a house? Well, that's what happens in George's Marvelous Medicine by, Roald Dahl. Well, the book is about George's grandmother getting larger because George gets all the stuff he can find and puts it in his grandmother's medicine. I like this book because you can see the grandmother getting bigger and bigger. The author's point of writing this is to entertain because that would never happen to your grandmother. I have one last question. Do you think George's grandmother is going to get bigger or shrink? Read and find out.

I read the book George's Marvelous Medicine, by Roald Dahl. It was about a kid named George who was angry at his grandma. The old hag had been treating him like a slave. One day he finally decided to make a medicine to make his grandma treat him better,in place of the usual medicine she takes every day. So he starts mixing a lot of things together. Though, when he gives it to her, strange things start to happen... but I guess I'll leave it at that.

George's Marvelous Medicine If you have grumpy grandparents then this is the book for you. George has a grandmother; she is as evil as a witch and George can't stand her anymore. So George has the evil idea of revenge so he decides to switch his grandmother's medicine with his potion he made out of household objects. Then the moment comes that George gives the medicine to his grandmother and a great disaster happens and that is for you the reader to find out.

The book I am reviewing is George's Marvelous Medicine by Roald Dahl. It's a great book! My favorite part is when George is making the medicine. It is my favorite part because it is cool. All the stuff he puts in the medicine is silly. I would give it four stars. It's terrific! What happens is he makes a poison medicine and gives it to his grandma and she takes a sip of it. I recommend this book. It's a great!

I liked this book because it was funny, cool, and weird. The book George's Marvelous Medicine is about a boy named George, and his Grandma. George sneaks around his house to make a medicine, and uses stuff he's not suppose to. I gave this book 4 stars because it wasn't the best it could be. I would reccomend this book to 1st, 2nd, and maybe 3rd graders, that have a sense of humor. This book is good for younger kids but still good for 5th graders.

This is one of the first books I remember reading in British primary school. I was definitely younger than 9, the store's "recommended reading age". I still remember the book so well.

For the reviewers who worry that little kids will copy what they read in the book (mixing together nasty potions and feeding it to a living creature), you shouldn't have to worry about that unless you've raised intensely mischevious children. I was a normal little girl and I *never* even considered copying George's outlandish stunts.

A must-read for any young child with a vivid imagination!

I really like it because it is very interesting. It's about a boy named George, who lives with his parents and a very, very mean grandmother. But his parents always leave him with her. George hates his grandma because she is always grumpy, demanding, horrible and grouchy. George has enough of his grandma saying not nice things, so he makes a horrible medicine that makes his grandmother twice as tall as a giraffe. Usually grandmas are very sweet but in George's Marvellous Medicine she is really annoying. Aha! And I'll let you discover the rest.

I absolutely love this book. Roald Dahl is such a creative writer and weaves so much humor and imagination into his stories. This story is about George and his dreadful Grandma. To make her nicer, he creates a marvelous "medicine" using a random concoction of things around his house and garage. The things he adds to the mixture are downright hilarious! And what happens to Grandma upon trying the medicine is even better! I highly recommend this book. It's written for children, but adults alike will definitely enjoy it.

I have read Matilda, The Witches, The Twits, and more of Roald Dahl's wonderful books to children of all ages, all economic levels, and from all over the world. Dahl has an amazing ability to captivate any audience. He also allows children to view Norwegian and British cultures.
His books are hilarious, full of rhymes, puns, metaphors, and rich with vocabulary. Dahl can take any reader, from age 5 to 95, to a whole new world.
Strongly, strongly recommend Matilda, The Witches, and especially Boy for children, teens, AND adults. Whether someone reads to them or they read alone.

I found it creative and i really liked the pictures. It was eight chapters long. It's a story about george and his lazy grandma when they're alone in the house. I'm eight it was just right for me. We read it in class and at home. It was interesting how all the ingredients he used could do such an effect to something. His dad was really surprised. I want to read more roald dahl. It was the best book i've ever read in my whole life.

Sometimes I just want to read something funny, cute and sweet. These books are perfect when i don't really want to think about anything serious. They are just as nice now as back when I first read them.
