A wonderful classic. I bought this book to read aloud to my 9 year old. We loved the book, but I missed the illustrations from my childhood copy. Quentin Blake is a quirky and wonderful illustrator, but the moody illustrations by Nancy Ekholm Burkert seem better suited to the strange story. None the less, this is a great classic and fun to read aloud!

Roald Dahl does it again! James and the Giant Peach is a favorite in this house so we decided to do a book study, chapter by chapter, in our homeschool. A blast! The poetry alone will make you laugh but Roald's descriptive writing and humor is some of the best there is.
Highly recommended.

While the main characters engage in technically illegal activity, the story is a warm, snuggly blanket of feel-good, centered on a father and son relationship, in a close-knit town. A lovely story to share with kids beyond the stage of black-and-white morality.

I first realized this terrific book when I was 8 yrs old and now, 40 yrs later, I'm reading it with my8 yr old boy and it is a thrill for us both. A timeless classic to say the least and especially meaningful for father's and sons everywhere!

Roald Dahl is undoubtedly one of the most adroit writers of books for young children. My daughter loves this book, there is definitely some sadness in the plot, but the adventure of James and the Giant Peach is fun and enlightening.

Ian like when the giant peach landed on the skyscraper in New York City. Ian wants everyone to know that there is a giant ladybug, centipede, grasshopper, spider, glow worm, silk worm and an earthworm in the story. The earthworm hated the centipede.

I feel like not many people know about this book, but it is great! It is a fun take on fairy tales. You might want to read first before sharing with young children. If you love Roald Dahl, this is a great addition to your collection.

Great... even for me as non-nativ-english-speaker.
Funny versions of well know fairy tales :-)
Easy to read, may be sometimes a bit more cruel than those stories already are, defintivly not for kids - But cool. :-)

This is a wonderful book, and represents the artful storyteller Dahl at his best. It contains his usual wit, suspense, and masterfully-crafted characters.
In particular, the special relationship between the father and the son is described more richly than in any other story I can think of. It's a warm relationship, and keeps a delicate balance between their being best buddies and maintaining the distinct father/son roles.
There is one difficult point, however. Throughout the story, the main characters freely trespass and steal, and they plot humilation for the wealthy landowner nearby. These things are justified in the dialog in that 1) everyone does it, 2) it makes you "feel alive" with the thrill of possibly being caught, and 3) the landowner is mean, anyway. Not exactly the sorts of messages you want your kids to pick up from a book. You may want to be prepared to discuss this with them before reading it.

Roald Dahl is a master storyteller. I loved this book as a kid but I loved it even more as an adult. My 5 year old was begging to keep reading at each new chapter. Does it get any better than that?

Very nice chapter book! My daughter (8 yr old) loves it and laughs like crazy when she is reading it...or cries when she reads a sad part.
Anyway, the books arrived in great condition and in a timely manner. Highly recommended.

Such a classic book....our children loved it when they were young & got this for our granddaughter's 7th birthday. We enjoyed reading the "chapter book" at bedtime with them.....of course they live, out of town & we were visiting them, so while they finished the book "Gammy & Grandpa" are still hanging in suspense. We will finish the book at home from our children's copy many years ago!

Another winner from Roald Dahl. So much more detail than the movie; my daughter (5yo) and I loved it. It made her laugh out loud at times. There are pictures every few pages which was perfect to keep her interest.
