Vogue Knitting has always been one of the best and must have books of knitting. When I first started to knit I bought a version in 1994. Then in 2002 they updated and I bought that one and donated the previous one. Now, I repeated that process and bought this new 2018 version and donated the one I had. In my opinion this is the best version yet and totally worth it.

It's a classic, and necessary for all knitters. Found a typo right away (page 84, heading "CATHCHING FLOATS," though, and some pretty common, necessary stitches are missing (LLI and RLI, for example).

This is a large, beautiful reference for EXPERIENCED knitters. Loaded with illustrations of many different techniques, but requires a solid base of understanding and experience. Not a book that will teach you how to knit, and much too advanced for the begginer.

My knitting skills are basic, I have successfully knitted scarves so far. It seemed to me that knitting was a daunting task to learn and I found most beginning books confusing. I'm so glad I found this book, whether you are experienced, or a novice like me, this book covers in detail the techniques, the needles, the patterns, the stitches and all you need to know to become a proficient knitter. It has large and detailed illustrations as well as beautiful pictures to help you understand what you need to do for your projects. It is very nicely organized so that you can either begin with the basics or go straight to more advanced. It has also a good section about how to use crochet needles in your knitting, and also how to use the round needles, and more. This book has officially made all my other knitting books completely obsolete. It also has a chapter at the end where it shows you how to take proper body measurements so you can have the correct size, there are so many useful things in this book that pretty much any question you have you'll likely find the answer here.

For those like myself wondering what this is--perhaps you're purchasing it as a gift-- fear no more. It is a compendium of knitting techniques. I gave it to my mother who has been knitting for 60 years and literally knits 8 hours a day (retirement must be awesome).
She said she quite liked the book and she learned a few things thumbing through it. I can't imagine a stronger recommendation than that.

I'm familiar with the previous editions of the book, but this one is so much better and offers so much more. They cut out all of the swatches and garment patterns and replaced them with more information about more techniques AND THEN they add 70 more pages of even more techniques. I'm so excited for the new entrelac and brioche sections, but I'm ecstatic about the new sections about designing accessories—socks, mittens, gloves, hats, and shawls! The shawl section is really, really cool and shows all kinds of different constructions. As someone who dabbles in design, these sections (including the one on designing sweaters) is going to be invaluable. I love knitting and learning more about the mechanics of it, and this book is going to help me really learn the finer details of this craft. It's just inspiring to dig into these chapters, and it's nice to know that I'll always have this book to turn to when in need.

VOGUE KNITTING: THE ULTIMATE KNITTING BOOK (completely revised and updated, 2018 edition) is one of three truly excellent, comprehensive, how-to-knit references. The other two are Montse Stanley’s KNITTER’S HANDBOOK and June Hemmons Hiatt’s PRINCIPLES OF KNITTING. VOGUE KNITTING is probably the best choice for a new knitter, because of the modern photos, large-sized drawings of techniques (everything from the basic knit stitch to changing yarn colors in intarsia), and up-to-date discussions of yarns, charts, and designing garments (scarves, hats, sweaters, etc.).
The Stanley book is the knitting reference that I’d want to have with me on a desert island, because it’s compact and has every imaginable knitting technique in it somewhere (e.g., “twice-knit” knitting). But the illustrations are line drawings, so it’s old-fashioned.
The Hiatt book is an opinionated, “thinking knitters’” reference that discusses the pros and cons of alternative knitting techniques (e.g., is it best to knit one color at a time in each row of stranded knitting). It’s much admired by many intermediate and advanced knitters, and it’s a good choice for any serious knitter who already owns VOGUE KNITTING.
This completely revised and updated edition of VOGUE KNITTING is larger than the original book (published in 1989, revised and updated in 2002). Much of the technical material (text and drawings describing specific knitting techniques) is unchanged from the original book (except for the layout and some bolding added to the text). However, there is an entirely rewritten and expanded section on “Yarn and Supplies”, and there are many additional new pages (352 pages now, instead of the original 280 pages). There is also an improved Index.
When the 2002 updated edition of VOGUE KNITTING was published, it wasn’t enough different to justify a purchase if you already owned the 1989 edition. With this 2018 updated edition, there are enough improvements in presentation and enough new pages to warrant repurchasing the title for your knitting reference library. The book also continues to be a must-have general reference for knitters of all skill levels.

Vogue Knitting, The Ultimate Knitting Book, by the Editors of Vogue Knitting Magazine, is a huge and wonderful book for your knitting library.
Simple to understand, it is an update from the beloved 2002 edition (which was updated from the original 1989 edition).
What the reader will enjoy is an expanded library of cast-ons, increases, decreases and bind-offs,
as well as in depth sections on brioche, entrelac, double knitting and mosaic knitting. As well, there are
brand new design and construction chapters for accessories which the reader is going to be delighted and dazzled by.
The very complete chapters on lace and cables contain all the knitter needs to know about increasing, decreasing, reading charts, working borders and much more. This book offers revised and expanded information on tools, correcting errors, finishing, embellishing, and garment care.
The table of contents is color coded, just like the chapters of the book. It has tip boxes and technique boxes to enhance the reader's understanding.
The book is arranged by subject and continues to offer a thorough explanation of knitting and design.
The accessories chapters just didn't exist before, and this edition is worth the money just for these two chapters alone. They are lovely!
Get your needles out and fall in love with knitting, whether you are new to the art, or it is an old favorite craft of yours. You will adore Vogue Knitting, The Ultimate Knitting Book!

There's actually no complete pattern to make anything from this book. Everything in here you can easily google or youtube. In fact, you could probably get more out of watching youtube tutorial videos than looking at the pictures.

Every knitter should have this book in their arsenal. There's pretty much anything you need to know or didn't know in this huge hardcover book. It shows you techniques and how to design projects. It's also great if you have any questions about a pattern. There are lots of color photos. It's not a book to read through (unless you really want to), but to use more as a reference guide. They have updated the old book and also made things easier to find. Even if you're an advanced knitter I bet there's still stuff in this book that you don't know.
This book would make a great gift for any knitter. I'm glad to have the book in my knitting library.

This is a gorgeous coffee table-sized book that's essential if you already knit or are just beginning. It's chock full of patterns and projects and contains the most comprehensive guides for various stitches that I've ever seen. The illustrations and pictures are big, clear and detailed. When I first got the book, I was a relative novice at knitting; I've done simple things but it was years ago. Since then, my oldest teen girl and I have completed a few of the projects in the book (hats, mittens, blankets), ones that I'd never have attempted before, and I'm inspired to try more if I can ever get the book back.
This is easily the most comprehensive knitting book I've ever had and I recommend it for every skill level.
