Review:This is my favorite quilt book by Eleanor Burns. Whenever I make this quilt for a gift, I also give the book. This way, everyone knows the story and the meaning of each block. What a piece of history. Thank you, Eleanor Burns for this wonderful gift. Read more
Review:It IS expensive, but a great resource for anyone who is planning on making several. I've made a handful as presents for friends, and they are TRULY touched by this kind of thoughtful (and surprisingly easy to make) gift. Read more
Review:This book has so much information for the advanced beginner seamstress! I am past the point of learning how to find grainlines, etc. but not ready to tackle more advanced dresses without a little backup. The pattern to make the dresses shown is included, very helpful! Tracing off patterns isn't a big deal anymore, and I really appreciate not needing to go find a pattern that looks like the one pictured, it is right there. The sizes included cover a wide range, along with some basic advice on pa... Read more
Review:Dawkins fans like me will be horrified by this book. Roughly speaking , it could be sub-titled 'Why Science isn't boring' but, unlike the thrilling romp of 'The Selfish Gene' or the interest of 'The Blind Watchmaker', here Dawkins bangs wearily on, often on his own hobby horses or things he evidently knows little about.
He hectors us about watching the X-Files, he has a predictable go at Stephan Jay Gould, he repeats earlier work almost verbatim. His previous books demonstrated brilliantl... Read more
Review:Meh, concept is fantastic, I just wish the "eat a bag of dicks" sentiment was present more than once, perhaps in different sorts of backgrounds & scripts already offered in there. Though there were a couple creative pages like "ass badger" & whatnot, some were a little lame & would've been better replaced by some solid standards like "die in a fire" or "blow a cactus" or "get hit by a bus." Perhaps in another addition we will see improvements. Read more
Review:This book is a great addition to my library. Beyond basic serging I needed to be schooled. This book is very helpful in that regard. I look forward to trying some of the techniques in the book. It is written well and the information is easy to understand. Read more
Review:Vogue Knitting has always been one of the best and must have books of knitting. When I first started to knit I bought a version in 1994. Then in 2002 they updated and I bought that one and donated the previous one. Now, I repeated that process and bought this new 2018 version and donated the one I had. In my opinion this is the best version yet and totally worth it. Read more

Review:I too eagerly anticipated reading this book, since I went through an apron-sewing blitz this summer. I was a bit disappointed, however. Although the photos and instructions are helpful (for seamsters more accomplished than myself), the tone of the book is reactionary, with negative statements about working mothers and a lot of nostalgia for the Ozzie and Harriet era. Although Geisel celebrates the rebirth of the domestic arts, she praises the home-as-nest (enclave of traditional domesticity) rat... Read more
