This book was well worth the wait. It has everything I look for in a book plot loops and turns, emotion and laughs and a sexy as sin alpha male that will Sacrifice it all for the ones he loves. The author truly out did herself on this one. In my opinion this is her best book to date.

Julia and Crew were sweethearts in school but circumstances caused Julia to be with Crews brother. A fatal car accident and Crew and Julia are bound together with a new beginning or is there trust issues. Touching story of Love, lost and finding each other and finding out about going the distance and believing in the happy ever after.

What an emotional book!
Beautiful book about loyalty, struggle and SACRIFICE!
It was so hard to read for me because they went through so many hardships. Julia was one strong heroine and Crew was loyal, a fighter and a hero. And Everleigh omg I loved her!

This book has me in my feelings. It's phenomenal. Crew Gentry is my new favorite book boyfriend. If you want to read a great second chance love story, then this book is for you. Be prepared though because the author will break you and then put you back together again.

Sweet romance set in Boston, featuring a young widow and her brother in law, a former wrestling/MMA prodigy. Throw in a young daughter, health issues and you've got the basic plot. Nothing particularly unusual about this story by Adriana Locke but well paced and well delivered.

From beginning to the VERY end, these characters had my whole heart! The story was so much more than just a love story, and at parts my heart broke reading the things they had to go through! I don't think I fully caught my breath until about 10 minutes after I finished! I have loved all of Adriana's books so far, but this is by far her best!

I really enjoyed this book! It was well written and edited. The author did a great job with dealing with a sensitive subject as childhood cancer, and there were parts that made me cry. The main characters had a chemistry that could be felt, and they were each strong. I can't wait to read more from this author.

I always have a hard time when children are involved. Ever was so precious and loving. The idea of what she had to go through ripped my heart apart. Jules had strength beyond anyone and didn't think she did.
It was tough to see Crew struggle but I felt his pride when he knew he was finally doing it right.

Reading this book brought so many emotions _ it is fantastic. As a mother of two sons who fought in the MMA, I could relate to the tough training he went through as well as the fear she felt for his life. Also, being from the Boston area brought this home. I look forward to reading many more books by Adriana!

Its been three weeks since I have read and finished this book and I still can't get it out of my head. I fell in love with Crew, Jules and Everleigh and their beautiful story of a never ending love, heartbreak and triumph in the end. It is a beautiful romantic story that every one should read.

This is a rollercoaster ride worth taking. So much emotion wrapped up in this story of an ex-cage fighter, his widowed sister-in-law and his niece. Heart-wrenching, face paced and filled with love that overflows off the pages.

Overall Opinion: This story really was touching. The idea of going through having a child with cancer is terrifying, and I think that Ms. Locke wrote about it beautifully. I am a mom, and it made me so grateful that I have healthy children. I loved the overall message that Crew finally got by the end of the story which was that it is the simple things that matter in life. I lost my mom to cancer and in the past I was unable to read/watch anything regarding the subject of cancer because it was too painful, but this was well written to the point that it felt like the author had experience with having a loved one with cancer and understood the feelings that go along with it. Well done Ms. Locke!
Storyline: This is Julia and Crew's story. Julia and Crew met when they were teenagers and began dating. Crew left Julia behind to go to college in Minnesota (they lived in Boston) to wrestle, and some things happened to make the couple split. Julia ends up marrying and having a daughter with Crew's brother, Gage. Gage dies and leaves Julia alone with her daughter. This is where the story starts for us. We meet Julia when she is struggling to pay bills and care for her daughter. Crew and her relationship is not the best, but he drops in to help out frequently and has an amazing relationship with his niece. Julia's daughter, Everleigh, is sick and ends up in the hospital and diagnosed with cancer. After some major struggles and sacrifices;), Julia and Crew reconnect and find their HEA (don't want to give too much away).
POV: Alternating between Julia and Crew's POV
Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never experienced the feeling that I wanted to skip ahead or that the feelings between the h/H were too rushed...so just right.
H rating: 4 stars. Crew. Moody, loyal, regretful, sweet ex wrestler/mma fighter. I loved the way he loved them both so completely and was so determined to fix things in any way he could.
h rating: 3 stars. Julia. Strong and a good mom. I felt like even though she was obviously going through a lot, she could've been a little more likable towards Crew
Angst level: High. Tissues needed (but maybe it was just me since I have kids and have lost someone to cancer so it's a hard subject)
Heat level: Moderate. Some sexy times, but mostly about connecting emotionally...I wouldn't necessarily say they were really steamy, but I think that was appropriate for this story.
Closure: This had a doozy ending with 2 different epilogues...I felt like they provided sufficient closure for a HEA...I'll leave it at that.

Crew would do anything to help his family, even if it is dangerous, but he needs to convince the person he hurt the most
Jules would never forget what Crew did, but can she forgive him enough to help her daughter?

Love this book!!!! I was on roller coaster ride of emotions with characters. I cried and laugh. I have to say what happens in the book with Everleigh, I did not expect. Julia is a very tough and strong women. It was a great sacrifice Crew did for Julia and Everleigh.

I won The Exception on a Instagram giveaway last year and took me a while to read because besides busy with finals at school and having no time, I didn't know the author and wanted to read more reviews about the book. When I finally got to read the book I fell in love right away with the story. Cane and Jada story was beautiful and when I finished I thought that there was nooooo way Adriana would be able to do better than that, but The Perception came out and it was soooo good and beautiful. Max and Kari story was unbelievable good....then Sacrifice was announced and my thoughts were the same, no way it would be better than Cane and Max, there is noooo way that Crew will be as good and loving as Max, it's impossible to fall in love with someone after Max and Cane, they are it. I can gladly say that I was soooooo wrong. Sacrifice is beautiful, the story builds up perfectly and brings you down to your knees with the emotion you feel. I had to put down the book a few times and cry. I loved this book, it was beautifully written, the story has the right flow, it's a beautiful love story. I can't tell you how much I loved this book. Crew is the guy, he is a fighter, and he brings the best of everyone around him...I fell in love with Crew too. If you haven't read any books by Adriana Locke, I suggest you do it and soon. She is an amazing writer and you won't regret it. Definitely one of my favorite reads of 2015.

I have to say, I GREATLY enjoyed this book. This is such an emotional and heartbreaking read.
Trying to write a review that does this story justice is incredibly difficult.
Julia is a hardworking single mother that is working two jobs just to stay afloat. While working two jobs, she's still having trouble making ends meet. Although she has issues making ends meet, she manages with help from Crew. Crew is Julia's first love... but also the brother of her deceased husband. Although she is anything but nice to him, Crew still comes around to check on Julia and Ever, as well as make sure things are taken care of financially (the best he can).
When disaster strikes, will Julia turn to Crew for comfort? Or will she continue to alienate him and handle it all on her own? Will she be able to handle everything? Or will she finally ask for help?
This book was an emotional rollercoaster that had me laughing one minute and sobbing my eyes out the next. Everything about this story had me hooked and had me so emotionally invested that I felt deeply for the characters. Ever is adorable throughout and she always presented a little ray of sunshine in the middle of everything.
If you're looking for a story that's going to grab you by the emotions and is just a good ugly cry book, Sacrifice is your choice. If you're looking for sunshine and butterflies and rainbows throughout, keep moving.

I rarely write reviews but I loved this book. It did make me cry but it also made me smile. I was able to connect to all the characters. I would go into more detail but I hate when reviews are spoilers. This book was written really good. I'm looking for other books written by Adriana Locke.

The synopsis on the store was more interesting than the book. The premise was interesting, but the story itself was poorly executed. It simply wasn't written in a style that kept my attention. Much of the book was boring...working yet suffering...barely able to get buy. And then the heroine seems to experience tragedy after tragedy. Who wants to read about that? There was so much sadness in the book and very little romance. Even in dark romance books, there's more romance (or even HOT sex!) to maintain the appeal of the book! Therefore, I can't recommend this book.

This book has so many emotions. Just wow!
This isn't my normal type of read. I seen so many people in reading groups raving about it and being an emotional whip-lash, mainly the tears. I had to take the challenge and see if my pea sizes heart started to beat.
Well Adriana, you succeeded.
We have Jules, the ex-flame of Crew's (our male lead) and widow to his brother Gage. Jules, she has a daughter Everleigh, also from her marriage to Crew's brother.
We learn of all this through the first part of the book, where Crew is stopping by to help out Jules, even though it's always with a fight. You know he cares for her and loves his niece. You think it's just a story of a second chance romance, with all the complexity that would be involved in that cluster of his dead brothers already made family. Nope, no way could the reader be let off that easy. You get put through so many devastating thing in Jules and Crew's life.
This is one emotional journey where no one is safe from this authors keystrokes.
I don't want to say anymore and ruin this book, with all the twist and turns. It's a must read!!
This is my first book from this author and I can't wait to read more. I highly recommend this book.

Very aptly titled book. Crew Gentry is living in his own self-imposed purgatory. His glory days are behind him and he doesn't have much to show for it. All of his mistakes have caught up to him and his life is empty at the moment. He risked everything and everyone important to him and now he has nothing. In the meantime, he visits his brother's widow and first love, Julia, and his niece, Ever, to make sure they are well cared for.
Julia is barely scraping by with 2 jobs as a single mother. She lives paycheck to paycheck and can't catch a break with the bills. I could feel Julia's desolation, but she's also very determined and independent. She's used to Crew disappointing her from past experience so she isn't very welcoming of his presence or efforts to assist her with the bills or simple chores. She also thinks Crew is responsible for putting her in the position she is in now.
Both Crew and Julia are hurt and it's heartbreaking. Part of me wanted to be mad at Crew for his screw ups because he was so ego centric and hedonistic. However, he isn't entirely unaware of that fact and makes every effort to redeem himself once a new threat to Julia's fragile life balance makes an appearance. It's the kind of threat that could send Julia down into the deep depths of darkness, as well as Crew, and Julia and Ever are Crew's only remaining immediate family, aside from his good friend and distant cousin Will.
Because the book paints such a stark and bleak picture of their circumstances, it seemed overly optimistic to hope that anything would go right, never mind everything. But hope, and a lot of hard work, is the only thing pushing Crew forward to make things right, even if means giving up every last bit of himself to see it happen. He will finally lay all of his cards on the table for the people he loves, something he should have done a long time ago and didn't and eventually paid the price. There's a lot of feels with this story that pretty much sends the reader into a tailspin up until the very end. There are absolutely no guarantees that everyone will come out unscathed, but in the process, Julia and Crew do progress well as characters. They have no one to lean on besides each other and in the process, they recapture a part of themselves that they haven't shared in years. I enjoyed the dialogue between Crew and Will, too. Sacrifice is the story of loss, redemption, forgiveness, second chances, hope and of course sacrifice. Great story!
