Max Lucado manages to illuminate, with humor and reality, the world's most familiar psalm. Breaking down Psalm 23 verse by verse, Lucado teaches what the words really mean, and what they mean to believers. This book is suitable for small group study as well as for individual reading and reflection.

I first read Traveling Light in hard cover, I bought it after my husband passed away, and the only prayer that got me through was the 23rd psalm. At times all I could say was "The Lord is my shepherd". When I found this book it was a life line. It's not the type of book you have to read from cover to cover to find the answer. Each chapter is it's own book. Releasing Burdens one at a time can be done anytime, anywhere with this book. When I found the Kindle edition, I had to have it. It's been 12 years since I first read Traveling Light, and when I get depressed or feel burdened I turn to this book. I have recommended it to family and friends and the ripple effect is still continuing today, people I know also get so much from it. It's easy to understand, and gives such comfort at 2AM when doubts and anxiety creep in. It has brought me closer to God. This book needs to be read by everyone.

Lucado writes in a very readable, folksy style. Though not a deep theological treatise, it is an uplifting reminder of the goodness and greatness of God. We encounter many trials. Lucado reminds us we are not without a shepherd.
