A good and meaningful read for seekers and believers. Frank Peretti has a brilliance to his story telling that draws you to consider your position in the Kingdom of God. Are you in or out? Are you a friend or foe of righteousness ?

As with This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness, this book explained spiritual battles as moral, physical and psychological struggles brilliantly The detail used to describe the Dragon bring it to life in the reader's mind making the theme and purpose timeless and memorable. I would recommend this book to Christians and those who are unsaved. I can't wait to read the rest of Mr. Peretti's books.

Classic Frank Peretti. The Oath kept me on the edge of my seat - and I ended up losing a bit of sleep. I trade off books with my family and they loved the book, too. My parents are getting their own copy!
The Visitation :: This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness :: Silver Staked (The Blood Borne Series Book 1) :: Shadowed Threads (A Rylee Adamson Novel, Book 4) :: The Veritas Project: Hangman's Curse

Great book. Brought some things into a much better understanding.

Most books I read (and I read quite a bit) get a 3 star if I like them. The only books that I've ever given 5 stars to is This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness (which are actually the same author as this).

Peretti is one of those authors that takes reading a few chapters before you really get into the book! I can't tell you how many times I have to come back to one of his books before I get completelly hooked and can no longer put the book down! I love all of his books that I have read so far!

Love Frank Peretti's great insight into the spiritual realm and translating it into such an amazing story. This book kept me reading and trying to guess what would happen next. The characters were great and I would definitely recommend to anyone.

If intense supernatural novels are your thing, you'll probably enjoy this novel from Peretti. The Oath is set in a small mountain town, where secrets and sin are the norm and have actually given birth to a dragon-like monster that eats its victims when they become consumed with their sin. The main character, Steve, is on a mission to destroy the dragon, but he spends much of the book learning what motivates the monster (sin) and *spoiler alert* finally must confront his own sin and find faith (the only real weapon against the dragon) in order to defeat the monster. The book reads like it might make a good suspense movie (and, in fact, several of Peretti's other novels have been turned into movies).

The spiritual themes are strong, as the author's main premise is to show how sin can destroy us. The book challenges readers to consider the depth of sin in their lives, how it can start as a small blemish that soon grows into a seeping and stinking black stain. Peretti emphasizes that people are in the most danger when they stop caring about their sin; that is when sin will consume them.

While I respect any author who has sold five million books (as of 1995, surely many more since then), I may be the only reader who has ever panned any of them. This tale was a "Stephen King allegory". Maybe it's because I don't go for horror stories or allegories, I found the work about 200 pages too long. Two of my friends read the book and "couldn't put it down," each reading it in less than a week. It took me the better part of a month to push myself to the end; but, again, that's just my taste - yours may be totally different. I hope you like it; don't be turned off just because I didn't.

This is seriously my favorite novel of all time! I was so into it; I PRAYED for the characters in my thoughts. I have passed this book on to many others and would recommend it to anyone (except children, of course) - it's scary!

Although there are many people who are close to God, sin is still there. Patient and cunning it waits. Always be aware of your "dragon" and ask God to help you overcome it.
This book makes you realize that no matter how much you deny your sin, only God can free you from it.
