Doesn't a story of royalty gone wrong make delicious gossip? Though we know the eventual outcome in some ways, the journey is worth the misery and finality. The rivalry between the two countries becomes clearer with what has gone on in the past. What treachery!

I would recommend this book because it shows the strength a women fought for in that time. She was really neglected and she really fought for everything she had. She was a very brave women and I dont want to revel to much for the next reader but I have to say I really really really enjoyed reading about Isabella. A great read

Isabella of France is all the things her husband, Edward of England, is not. She is smart and brave with an astute political mind. Such hard qualities for a woman to possess when both the church and the law were stacked against her. But Isabella prevails and how she does it is fascinating. Colin Falconer has written an engaging and well-paced book that brings Isabella to life.

Enjoyed this book. Historical fiction at its best. Enjoyed the characters, much based on fact.
Have read another book on Isabella, not as interesting as this one. If you enjoy historical fiction I recommend this one.

I enjoyed reading this book because it held my interest, was well written and covered a period in history with which I was unfamiliar. Even if you're not all that interested in history, it's still a good read.

I was not impressed with this book. The narration was dry and not a lot of detail that would have brought the daily world and life of Isabella to life. I have read other historical fiction that was rich and transported you to that time and place.

I expected more from a "Braveheart" of France. Downright sappy at times. Not enough "historical fiction" and battle. HAD to finish it, and it DID get better as it went along......but all in all I can't heavily endorse it. Sorry.

This book was very interesting, loved how it told the story of how the king was in love with a man. Never read a book that told a story of how kings in the dark ages liked boys. GREAT READ! Would have given five stars but the books should have been called Isabella: the dreamer of France. She dreamed of a loving life but what she got was a gay king with a sad ending.

The third person present tense in which the book is written somehow seemed contrived. The story line follows received history fairly closely but not convincingly so. The bedchamber and other intimate moments quite clearly a work of fiction and shallow in content. The epilogue with Edward ensconced among Friars in Italy is sentimental rot.
Overall an enjoyable read but certainly not a great work of literature.

Well written...it takes the reader into the heart and mind of Isabella. This is how she feels while married to King Edward of England, starting at the tender age of twelve. The political maneuvering a and harsh punishments are described quite well, taking the reader back to that place and time.

I enjoyed the retelling of this part of history. The only other version of Isabella that I knew, was the Braveheart one. I apprecreciate that this author does not feel the need to get overly graphic. Very well done.

Very interesting if you like history, but not so much for literature. The story is fine, and you can enjoy it very much, but the book somehow lacks depth in the characters. For example, the author could have described Edward's motive better and deeper. A revenge to the English people is not good enough especially when you are king (even if he thinks very lightly of royal obligations). Or, Isabella's complex love to Edward could have had a deeper description.
However, I did like the epilogue in Italy.

Fascinating story! Not totally accurate from a historical perspective, and I was distracted by quite a few errors in grammar and spelling (at least in the Kindle version). But it really held my interest all the way to the end.

This is a very interesting story, showing how Royalty paid no attention to peoples needs. Everything was done for politics of the day. This story also shows how a very young girl has to learn how to survive in a truly man's world.

This book really deserved a 5 star rating....but because of all the misspelled words and words completely left out it got a 4 instead... other than that a Riveting Read that was so hard to put down and go to sleep.
