When I purchased the Kindle edition of this book I never expected it to be the book it was.
Firstly the book is creepy and makes you want to run around your own house and turn all the lights on.
Secondly the book, despite its creepy factor, manages to be such a gripping story that you can't put it down (at least I couldn't).
I would definitely recommend this book to any paranormal story lovers. My only gripe however was i thought the book was too short and the ending a bit rushed and sudden.

SPOILER ALERT The main character finds the house she buys to be VERY HAUNTED. A corpse comes to see her, there were child skeletons found behind her basement wall, a dark form is seen in mirrors, hoof sounds echo through the house & at one point she is compelled to summon demons. But she gives that no thought & wonders why she "still" sees the dark forms in reflections. Never does the author have her self reflect on why she summoned demons & what that might possibly mean for her everyday life. And she still wants to stay in the house, she is not freaking out, doesn't want to move.

Well, I really liked this story until the ending. The first part kept me interested BUT the ending just dropped off into nothing. That was a big let down from a book I was really enjoying. What the heck ever happened with all those side story lines? They just went nowhere and became very disjointed. I was shocked when it ended. I mean there was nothing. Like fell of a cliff nothing. What happened to the budding relationship between the main character and Her bosses brother? It was such an abrupt ending that my head was spinning. Quite a let down from a book that could have been really good. Did the author just give up in the ending?

Plot: 3/5. While the overarching plot was pretty solid (if a little predictable), the out-of-nowhere plot twists hampered more than helped the flow of the story and made it hard to believe, much less to be scared by.

Characters: 4/5. The quirky neighbors, the adorable girls next door, the feminist friendship between Sarah and Angela, and the handsome David combined with the absolutely exquisite backdrop of Charleston would have been a great story—a great different story.

Style: 2/5. Plodding voice, lots of telling rather than showing. Building tension is critical to horror, and this book just doesn’t do it.

Originality: 3.5/5. Ghost witch, demon children, haunted house, satanic cult? Pretty solid mix. Can’t complain, and I especially liked the hints of caribbean and African mythology sprinkled throughout. Now that’s a story I would want to read!

Overall: 3/5. I didn’t love the book, but I didn’t hate it either. My overall impression was that it could have been better.

I love books like this. The setting was wonderful!! The plot was solid. There was very few grammatical errors. I loved it till the last few chapters. SPOILER ALERT. I despise it when animals die. It is so distracting and in this case made me despise the 'heroine' for being a coward when another life hung in the balance. Until that point it was enthralling. Then when the cat is KILLED it became a chore to get thru. Be warned the final bit stunk.

I love books that make me look forward to picking up where I left off. This is definitely one of those books. Well written, excellent pacing, and a fantastic story.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I had the hardest time picturing the layout of Sarah's house. If it wasn't for that one tiny nitpick, it would have gotten all five. Mind you, thats just my personal issue; other than that, the story truly is a great read.

Great characters, great storyline, I truly wanted more. This is a rare find in the haunting genre. With realistic and loved characters. I hope to read more of this author in the horror genre. You won't be disappointed. Nothing too gruesome, this means the author did well with a haunting that feels realistic. Enjoyed immensely.

Better than I initially thought it would be. A really nice old fashioned ghost story with a scary demon thrown in. I'm not much for romance mixed in with my horror but it was subtle so I didn't mind. Will be reading "The Kirk" next but I'm not really into zombies so will probably skip those over.

A good read overall and not a typical paranormal/ghost story. Some interesting developments. Some parts were a little slow, but it unfolded enough to keep my interest. I wish there was a little more detail in the ending, because it unfolded for awhile and then seemed to abruptly conclude. I was still glad I read it.

This was a very well-written story about witchcraft, demons, and other supernatural creatures. Not going to go into the story because I don't want to ruin it for other readers. Enjoy and read it with the lights on!

Very well written and I highly recommend it if you like ghost stories. I had to put it down a few times while reading at night, as I found myself looking over my shoulder and kept hearing things go bump in the night. I absolutely loved it! While reading it, I couldn't wait for the ending as I was spooked, but now I want more!!

Well written lovely haunted house story. I enjoyed the history incorporated by the author. I found myself googling things to more clearly see the images in my head but that almost made it more fun. Quick read. Well worth your time if you like haunted house stories.

Some grammatical errors and it also seemed like plot points were forgotten and not then not finished, but the story was really good. I wish it would've kept going as there were scenarios I was waiting to happen but they never came.

Very different from my usual reads. I'm really on the fence if I'd ever read another story of this type. A lot if the spell stuff went right over my head. Drew a blank sort to speak. Not thrillered.

thoroughly enjoyed this. I hate silly ghost stories and this was not one of them. If all you are after is a good story and especially if you like history of witches, ghosts and Charleston SC then I recommend it.
