Barbara Robinson has pulled off the once-in-a-lifetime feat of a nearly perfect story about a highly disliked and marginally criminal family of kids who, for entirely selfish reasons, force their way into all the main parts of a church's Christmas pageant. This is one of the few books that made me laugh out loud while still showing me that anybody can learn something good, at least for a little while.

This was required reading for my son's third grade. I went ahead and purchased it on Kindle so that we could read in bed at night. We had a blast. I'd not only read it years ago, but directed a play with students acting out the parts. Brought back good memories. My favorite is the bean in the ear.

I absolutely loved this book. The story of Jesus's birth could never be told better in a family story. This particular copy of the book had no typos and was 100 pages long, which was the perfect length for a December night of family reading. The first time my dad read it to me, I was intrigued. I had never thought of the Christmas Story quite like this. READ THIS BOOK!!!

My only quibble with this edition is that it doesn't include the original illustrations, but the price is right and the story is a wonderful one to read any time. I bought 29 copies - one for each of the 3rd through 9th graders who performed in the play version at the beginning of the holidays.

I read this book every Christmas. I used to read it to my sister's on Christmas eve when we were kids. It's funny and thoughtful. I recommend it to anyone looking for a simple read to share with their kids.

This is the most charming, funny and - believe it or not - most believable Christmas story about children I've ever read. I laughed and wept with joy throughout it. This story moved the reality of Christmas pageants out of their often stereotyped, stylized, and predictable presentations and made it deepen its meaning and come alive for these youngsters and the adults who taught them. It's for people of all ages - its lessons are as much (if not more) for adults than for children.

What a great reminder of the true meaning of Christmas! I really enjoyed reading this to my little ones. I had an entirely different take on the story as an adult and it was the Best Christmas Stoey EVER!!

The perfect Christmas story for children and tweens. The reading of this story could become a family tradition. Written with a large dose of humor, it tells the story of a family of kids who are hearing the Christmas story for the first time, adding their unique perspective to all that goes on in the church pagent. Brilliant!

In school, this was a favorite around holiday time because it was sure to please and often used as a read-aloud treat. Each day as I read it to the class, I would laugh hysterically, but on the last day, no matter how hard I tried, I could not read it without choking up. I'm sure the kids thought I was nuts!

This is a Christmas classic for our family. Our children, now ages 21, 19, and 16, still beg to sit by the Christmas tree and have it read aloud. We continue to laugh out loud at the hysterical antics and wonderful language each and every time, and will forever get choked up as the true meaning of Christmas comes to life in this charming story for children of all ages.

This is the best Christmas book ever. It is funny. It is serious. It takes 90 minutes to read out loud and it is worth every minute for your family. We made this book a part of our Christmas celebration.

We have a tradition in our family of reading "Christmas Books" to our kids each night in December. It's usually a chapter a night, and This book is now in the rotation. 5 Chapters, a simple message, and fun humor for grade school kids to help get the message across and keep it entertaining.

This is one of the best Christmas stories ever!!! We have a family tradition every year for the kids to wrap presents while I read this story aloud to them!! I also try to read it to my classes as they get done with their midterms in Decemeber. I did not get through reading it to one class this year and came back to school asking if we could finish the story!! Everybody can relate to a family of Herdmans!!!

This is a classic story, really funny. My granddaughter is appearing in a stage play of the story and I wanted to read it again. It is a good story to read to children but adults will enjoy the story and its message.

One of my favorite kids Christmas stories. Glad I was able to read to my kids this year. It's a nice change from the typical Christmas stories, but still remembers the real meaning of Christmas. It was also funny, my kids and I were in stiches laughing about those "Herdmans"
