Best Night Huntress book yet!

In the third Night Huntress book, Cat, Bones and the rest of her team are working hard to hunt down Patra...daughter of Cleopatra and wife the adorable Mencheres! Though, not happily married obviously.

Patra wants Bones dead and will do damn near anything to see it happen. Even unload killer zombies on everyone.

Bones and Mencheres merge their lines together to become even more powerful allies than anyone could think possible. Bones even gets to pick up a few new nifty tricks.

Oh, how could I forget...

Introduce...Vlad the Impaler! ::heart flutter::

At Grave's End has literally everything you expect and could possibly want. There's the love with Bones and Cat. Jealously with Tate. Annoyance with Justina (though, hilariously...she's starting to get better). Twists and turns with Tate and Juan. Heartbreak...enough said. Enough tears spilt because of the heartbreak. Good thing Vlad is such a smooth talker. Right? There's suspense and humor. Sex and warmth.

Seriously a great read.

The saga continues with Cat, Bones and friends. Her usual methods of baiting vampy big bads are becoming increasingly ineffective as the community becomes privy to her many disguises. In addition, one of Bones's many former conquests of the feminine persuasion happens to be up to no good, with vengeance and dangerous magic on her mind that are too much for even the most powerful vampire to take on alone. Loyalties are truly tested this time around and teamwork is the only way for everyone to make it out alive...or undead.

I didn't enjoy the prior installment quite as much on a whole, but this one was a hit for me. New side characters are introduced and others fleshed out a bit more. I'm really looking forward to what Vlad can lend to the series in future novels. The others are sort of bland to me, but I think he has potential to be a real standout.

And while we're on the subject of supporting characters, I am going to get on my soapbox for a little bit and rant about Cat's comrade, Tate. He's had it bad for her since she joined the team years ago. Cat does try and makes it very clear where she stands on the matter, but he just won't give it up. I find this worse than a love triangle because it really is a dead end that we have to see play out in painful detail, making me wish I were somewhere else...ANYWHERE ELSE! Does he REALLY think he's got a chance against Bones? I mean, REALLY?! It's Bones! Forget it! Personality-wise, Cat isn't that great anyway, so I don't get his hang up. Bones is the only reason I invest at all in the Cat/Bones ship to be honest. But at least she actually gives him play. And when Cat describes Tate, it's like...dude should be knee deep in poon. Sure, Bones may have slept with half the population by now, ruining them for all successors; I say this because practically ANY woman that's come onto the scene, he's been there and they want more. But I'm sure Tate is capable of wrangling up some for himself. It's a big world! *Jumps off soapbox*

So anyway, I enjoyed the book minus a couple of hangups. The end was particularly strong with non-stop action and suspense. I'd say at this point that it's my favorite of the series.

What more can be said about this wonderful book except....it is Cat and Bones!!!!! What's not to love? This book had Cat and Bones as a team and newlyweds doing the job they have always done, kill bad vampires. A lot happens in this book though, it is a true page turner from the start. Cat is still being hunted by her vampire father, Bones wants to give Cat a "real" wedding, Cat's Mother still hates Bones, Cat and her team still hunt vampires, but there are many added twists in the road. A Master vampire Patra is after Cat, and not to talk to her...she wants her dead. Cat, Bones, and the team go on a hunt for Patra after Cat is almost killed. I don't want to give too much away, but one of the surprising things that happens in this book is that one of Cat's vampire hunting team members wants to become a vampire. He wants to be a vampire to be more useful to the team and Cat. As a vampire he will be stronger, harder to kill, and can protect Cat more. Who does it? The team member you would least expect that's who. Will Bones really agree to make a new vampire though, even if it is part of his deal with Cat's boss? Will it really matter at all what they do anyway? There is a Master, old, really powerful vampire trying to kill them after all who can't be stopped easily or without sacrifice. The one person who knows how to end her, is the most powerful vampire of them all, but he also happens to be her husband. Can he really help condemn his wife to death to save Cat?

I have to say I loved this book just as much, if not more, than the first books in the series. I am in awe of Jeaniene Frost. She keeps the adventure going in this book, maybe even more so than the first books. There is a fantastic mixture of adventure, suspense, romance, friendship, and horror all tossed into a wonderful page turning book. I will have NO reservations going into the next book of the series! I can't wait to see what Cat and Bones and the other wonderful characters have to deal with next. Frost is truly a wonderful author with a very vivid imagination and writing style. As I read I can see the book playing out in my mind right down to the last bloody drop.

4 out of 5 stars!

I love this series. Cat is awesomeballs and Bones...*drool!* I'm thinking that Jeaniene Frost knows exactly what it is that makes me a happy girl. I really do. You have awesome writing, steamy romance, and kick ass (literally) characters thrown into a great story! My usually dilemma with a series is that after a while the story gets stale. The books start to drag and just seem like a money grab. So far, The Night Huntress books have yet to feel that way!

This time Cat has tons of new friends thrown into this book. I am not going to giveaway any of the goodies, but my favorite new character is Vlad..yup. THAT Vlad. It's not as hokey as it sounds! It's awesome! I hope he's in the future books! That's one thing that makes me love this series. Things that would SEEM hokey aren't. The sexy parts are sexy and not trashy. The action is actiony and not over done. Cat gets hurt and gets HURT. She does get healed but she's not invincible. She's a kick ass fighter but even she has her "off" moments.

There were a few honest to goodness sad parts in this book. I don't have any problems saying that one in particular got me big time. I was like *GASP....SHOCK* and was very tempted to read the end to see if it all worked out! That was a neato twist.

Again, so no spoilers for those that haven't read this series. Just a suggestion: GET ON IT! NOW!

AT GRAVES END is the 3rd addition to the Night Huntress series and damn I've missed me some Bones. He remains one of my favourite literary boyfriends even though this particular instalment never really grabbed me. If you're a fan of non-stop action and tons of bloodshed you'll love this but for me it was just too much.

With a different battle waging and new characters introduced every couple of pages I had a hard time getting into the flow of this story. The entire book just jumps straight from one action sequence into the next without any build up and very little story in between events. It was; finish one action filled sequence in a limo, start another at an amusement park, chaos in the movie theatre, exploding vamps during their annual general meeting. Bones opens a vein to heal Cat's wounds and off they go again. It was exhausting.

But still there was Bones and his unwavering love for Cat. Sigh. I just wish they'd had a little more quiet time together if you know what I mean. Sure there was a lot to like here, though maybe too much now that I think about it; the zombie sequence towards the end was just... wow, crazy and awesome too. Then there was Cat and Tate faking it in the limo and Bones peeling the roof off! I found myself completely engaged in the story when "someone" died but that was probably due to the fact that things slowed down enough while everybody regrouped, that we were allowed some introspection and character development.

Speaking of which there are a lot of characters to keep track of here, and I'm sorry to say that because all any of them ever did was fight I never really got to know any of them. Although Vlad managed to stand out and has become a new favourite.

There are the usual awesome one-liners and Jeanine ups the ante this time in the cool vampire powers and abilities department (who knew there were so many ways to destroy and regenerate a body?) We get makeup sex, reunion sex -although none of it very romantic and jeez do I ever want to have an argument with Bones if that's how he goes about it... way better than yelling and throwing stuff.

All in all another great addition to the series although I wouldn't start with this one.

At Grave's End was the most emotional of the book series so far. There were many twists and turns and the story could have gone is many different directions. Argh, I was flipping the pages so fast to get through a few of the chapters. There were times I felt so desparate and my hands were sweating. Wow what a ride.

The violence against Cat and her mother at the beginning of the book inflicted by her evil vampire father Max left me with chills. In fact, I think that At Grave's End is probably the most violent to date. The torture scenes left me squirming and I was feeling helpless. I was just begging for them to be rescued. Oh the angst.

Jeaniene Frost once again created a villian that you love to hate. Patra wasn't even in At Grave's End very much but when she did make her presence known, I felt myself grip my book harder. I love when a story gives me that sort of reaction to the characters. Speaking of Patra, I thought it was so creative in At Grave'e End that Jeaniene Frost played a bit with of history here and brought forth some historical characters. See if you can figure out the play on the name "Patra" and see where her character's name derived from. I was excited to be introduced to Vlad and I wondered what direction she would take his character. I must say, luvved it!

There was a new direction in At Grave's End and I like that Jeaniene Frost isn't writing the same book after book. There is great character development. I have to say, I find it a bit humourous that her soldiers were fighting against vampires and slowly but surely they are becoming comrades with each other. Why even her stubborn mom is starting to slowly wave the white flag.

Before I move onto book 4 Destined for an Early Grave, I am going to take a little detour and read First Drop of Crimson. It is a spin off of the Night Huntress series and it was suggested by another book reviewer, that I start it and Eternal Kiss of Darkness before starting Destined for an Early Grave. So that's my plan.

Jeaniene Frost is on a roll with this amazing series. Cat is now working full time with her vampire lover Bones, but the name of the Red Reaper has gotten around that her disguises on the job are blown again and again. When an operation using another bait goes wrong, Cat is attacked at home by an old enemy and it sends Cat and Bones once again on the hunt to find who is after Cat's life.

The words "fast-paced" and "action-packed" don't do any justice to the whirlwind of events that happened in this book. As I read way past my bedtime, one thing led to another and before I knew it I was done with the book. Cat is already a kick-ass heroine as we saw in the first two books, but she had always walked on the edge between human and vampire. In this book, it was good to see Cat finally makes the choice to finally admit and what she is.

Cat and Bones' relationship is absolutely beautiful. They had their arguments in this book. Cat was so mature about everything that I wanted to hug her. She didn't throw a tantrum when she and Bones had differing point of view. Instead, she took everything in stride and very logically explained to Bones why something doesn't work instead of just ignoring him and letting the misunderstanding builds. It was great to see that their relationship meant more than just petty arguments.

For those who've read this, I just want to say that Ms. Frost tore my heart out with what happened to Bones. I was there with Cat every step of the way and I just could not believe it. While on a level I knew it couldn't be true, I still raged and hated and cried. The emotions were just so real and tangible. Once again, Cat surprised me with her actions and how she took everything. I don't think I'd be able to stand it and do what she did if I was in her shoes.

Another thing I really love about this series is the dialog. Oh my God everyone in this book cracks me up. The comrade and easiness in which conversation flows really makes me wish I was part of that. Even between Vlad and Bones, who don't like each other, their jokes and jabs at each other made me laugh out loud. There were several times when my parents would look at me like I'm crazy, but I'm having fun, so who cares?

The only minor thing I didn't like and that annoyed me was Tate. Ahhh! His stubbornness and refusal to see the truth bothered the heck out of me. I hope he's not in the next book. I don't think I can stand him stalking Cat anymore in the series. At the same time, I hope he finds someone he loves for himself. And there were zombies in this book. I don't mean the ghouls, but real zombies. I am not a fan of those and that was just yuck!

I now see why this one comes so highly recommended. I did not have a moment of boredom when reading this! I am officially a convert. If you haven't read this yet, please go and get it! You're seriously missing out! Warning though, there're some gruesome and gory parts I'd rather not think about.

When the tale begins Cat's life is looking pretty darn good. She has an awesome team, and an incredible relationship with Bones. Aside from vamps recognizing her as the Red Reaper she couldn't be happier. Despite the fact that they are married by blood, Bones proposes and is determined to give Cat a traditional wedding complete with a beautiful dress. Cat's relationship with her mother hasn't been good since she hooked up with Bones and the announcement of the wedding isn't making it any chummier. When Cat's mother Justina calls inviting her to dinner and asking to help with the wedding plans she can hardly say no. When Cat arrives at her mother's the tale that unfolds is captivating, suspenseful, tear-jerking, ass-kicking, and at times hilarious. It kept me enthralled until the final sentence. Did I mention Zombies? Oh yeah...there are zombies and its epic.

Cat's character growth in this novel was awesome. She has always been kick-ass, but she matures in this novel. She has this unbelievable strength and it is definitely put to the test. There are a lot of changes with Tate and while I do not think I will ever love the guy I have come to appreciate him a little more. Annette is back, the vamp I love to hate. Crap..Frost completely made me flip for her. Mencheres teams up with them and we learn more about him. Then there is Vlad, a super hunky vampire lord with a snarky attitude. I am looking forward to seeing more of him. Bones is divine, scrumptious, awesome, stubborn and oh so romantic. Sometimes I forget what a ruthless killer he can be. The interaction between him and Justina was hilarious and had me giggling. I couldn't wait to read what they would say next. Justina was a complete surprise in this novel and I adore this feisty little woman.

With At Grave's End, Frost gives us one heck of a ride. My emotions were all over the place, as they faced one dilemma after another. There are several villains in this novel, some old and some new. The worst by far is Pantra. She is master vampire on a mission I would not want to mess her. As always Frost surprises us with a few twists, some new vampire abilities and wickedly good, heart-stopping scenes. My favorite scene happens towards the end of the novel and had my heart racing. Those who love all the steamy interaction between Bones and Cats might be a little disappointed. Frost focuses more on their emotional ties. Those ties are what made this novel one of my favorites. Bones and Cat "the a couple" has become very real.

Book #3, "At Grave's End" is another thrilling installment of Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series. The novel is full of action and drama.

Our darling "Red Reaper" can no longer keep herself disguised and it's causing some extremely dangerous issues for her and her entire team. There is also a very powerful vampire who wants her dead, in no uncertain terms. Plus, a war is about to unfold between the vampires and a magic wielding vamp seeking vengeance.

This installment of the series is lacking a good portion of the lust and dominance of sexual exploits that we saw in Books 1 & 2. There is still a bit of sex but Ms. Frost has moved our beloved Cat and Bones to another plateau; a plateau filled with emotional connection and a maturing of their relationship. We see the relationship between Cat and her mother, Justina, evolve as well when, due to issues of safety, Justina must reside within in the compound that houses Cat, Bones, and the entire team. The banter between Justina and Bones is laugh out loud funny and there are several other humorous moments written between the pages.

There are also some very intense emotional scenes that had my heart drop into my shoes. Cat and Bones are forced to acknowledge the fact that they may end up living without one another...again, and it may not be as simple as just slipping away into the night as Cat did in Book 1. Tate is one of my favorite secondary characters and Ms. Frost does a great job with him.

The plot is excellent and it keeps moving, never becoming slow or boring. The characters are very strong, each in their own way, and are written in a way that, while they are each well developed, the author manages to add layers with each book.

Being notorious has its privileges, but it's not doing much for Cat's job lately. The indiscriminate undead are seeing through even her best disguises and her reputation as the deadly Red Reaper precedes her far and wide. The usual shtick, using herself as bait to bring down the vampires who kill humans, is becoming less and less successful.

Vampire hubby Bones isn't exactly bemoaning his kitten taking a different tack, though. There's only so much groping of his wife a bloke both wildly in love and viciously dangerous can stand before the bloodbaths start. A change in plan may be just what her whole team needs.

Pity the change they adopt doesn't go so well. More of a problem is how the galactic fail leads Cat straight into a painful reunion with dear old dad. And in Cat's world, "painful" means bloody, gaping wounds and torture to the point of death.

As if barely surviving her father Max's not-so-tender ministrations isn't enough, there's an ancient and powerful force of evil backing him, and Cat is little more than collateral damage in the grand scheme. Humbling, really. But humbling is better than the gut churning sense of doom that comes from finding out who is pulling Max's strings...and who her real target is. She's a two thousand year old vampire worshiped as a goddess by her followers and feared as a tyrant by her enemies...in those brief moments before she decimates them all, anyway.

And Bones is next on her to-do list.

~*~

Okay, truth is, if a book's got Cat and Bones in it, I'm a fan. I love them together, I love them individually (Bones especially), I just love them. The stories about their exploits are some of my absolute favorites in the UF/UF Romance subgenres even if there are some books in the series I like more than others.

This one isn't one of my favorites, but it has two things in particular that set it apart from the rest. It's the first book that I felt had a genuine separation from the lingering patina of BtVS-ness I've mentioned in my reviews of the first two books. Other than Bones still reminding me vaguely of a far more mature and seriously bad-ass Spike (that particular trait can linger as long as it wants, as far as I'm concerned), this is the first one where the story and the characters didn't give me BtVS flashbacks. That's a point in its favor, for sure.

The other major point in its favor? Hello, Vlad, great to meet you!

I had some problems, though, with this book.

The concept for the plot was solid and Cat continues to evolve as the main character. There were several developments that I thought were wonderful, decisions she makes and actions she takes that were absolutely perfect for her and for the story. She's grown and matured nicely over the last three books, and that's something I much appreciate. The action is high octane and top notch, as always, and the depth of emotion the story ripped from my heart was distressingly impressive.

The transitions between story elements in this book as the plot progressed and major plot points were revealed, though, seemed very abrupt, making the narrative flow feel jerky and awkward in places. There were one or two times I had to go back and reread passages because it almost seemed like I missed a page between one part of the story and the next. It's disconcerting to be pulled out of the story like that.

Besides that, the Big Bad in this book never really came front-and-center in the story, and she never quite stirred in me the level of dread and fear for a painful, bloody end that would have make her plotline suspenseful. What she did was horrible, the weapons she used terrible, but the weapons inspired more tension than she did as the Big Bad. Who she was never factored for me at all. She may have been the High Priestess of All Things Anathema to her own kind (the sane ones, anyway), but her lack of presence compromised my ability to be see her as a serious threat. And when Mencheres' issues were tossed into the mix concerning her, I lost a little respect for him over how he handled it.

Still, this is such a stellar series. The journey that Cat and Bones are on is such a fantastic combination of sweeping, epic romance and dark, gritty urban fantasy. It's one of a kind; it's a yardstick by which to measure the rest in a crowded field. It's sexy and daring. It's fun. It's a lot of fun. And in the grand scheme, even a book that wasn't quite as smooth or effective as the two books that preceded it is just so damn awesome it shouldn't be missed. Nor, frankly, should this series.

I found the first of this series, "Halfway to the Grave", in 2007 and fell in love with the main characters, Bones and Cat. I have loved vampire stories since I was a kid, and the first series I followed was "Interview With the Vampire" by Anne Rice. My taste in books is quite eclectic, but I always have to fit in at least one vampire romance per month. This series is the first since Anne Rice's that I really wanted to read in order. I was in the store one day, looking for a new vampire story, and came across "One Grave at a Time", which just came out this year. When I saw that it was Bones and Cat I was delighted. I bought and immediately made a list of all of the books that I had missed in between; there were six. I went on line and bought "One Foot in the Grave, the 2nd, and then "At Grave's End", the 3rd. These books don't have to be read in sequence in order to enjoy them, but when I really love a line of books, I just prefer to read them that way.

These books are defintely page turners. I read with a cup of coffee when I first get out of bed, and when I wake up enough to think about the fact that I am in the middle of one, it actually brightens my day. I read them so fast because I have to see what happens next - but when I am finished I am sad and can't wait to start the next.

Cat is such an interesting character. I have only read a few books in which there was a half human/half vampire character, and the way that Ms. Frost has developed Cat is fantastic. Next up - Bones. Isn't it great when you fall in love with a character in a book? Well, that is what happened with Bones. So unique, colorful and sexy - I am actually jealous of Cat! I was so crushed when the TV series Moonlight was cancelled. Alex O'Loughlin's Mick St. John was the first vampire I was seriously in love with. Now when I read a great vampire novel I can picture Alex's face. I still follow his career, and he is awesome on Hawaii Five-0; but I will always miss Moonlight. If you love vampires, do yourself a favor and get the DVD right here at the store. Anyway, my point is - if a vampire novel is good enough to picture Alex as the vampire - you know you have a winner.

These books are exciting, dramatic, sexy - and you never can guess what is going to happen next. Never predictable, always hot - I would recommend them to anyone who loves vampires or who just wants to read a great novel. I will be starting the 4th in the series tomorrow and I have several more until I catch up to the most recent - which I stashed away until I read the others. After I read that one, I can only hope that Ms. Frost keeps up the excellent work and gives us plenty more to look forward to.

This series started a little slow, but everybody love it so I decided to give it another try and the second book was really good, but this third made me love Bones and Cat. There’s almost everything on this novel, from war, to death and even some magic. I read the novellas and was expecting a little change in this universe, but let me say this time I was surprised with the twists.

I loved this plot, Bones is perfect once again and this time they are married so he’s extremely jealous and trying so hard to protect her that is kinda funny. Cat is not a princess, and she get hurt a lot. I liked the difference in this book, most of all because we get to see more of the vampires rules and their inner circle loyalty. Plus Cat’s mom finally stopped being so hard on Bones, their relationhsip is not perfect, but things are better.

The war was different for me, because I expected a full army attacking, but things ended up being more dangerous that that. I really liked the changes and now we even have Tate as a vampire, plus he’s abssessive with Cat. Super strange situation.

It was a nice read, some running around with everything being solved quite nittly.

One of the things I like most in Jeaniene Frost books is the battle and action scene, another is the sense of humore, the witty comebacks. and last are the secondary chracters- Cat's mom Justina and Ian, one of Bone's best friend. they both are a favourites if mine, though Ian is the best.

also, we meet Vlad, and the friendship between him and Cat, as well as the antagonism between him and Bones made me love him quite a lot.

what else? some hiding, running around, killing and a scene that would break your heart. yep, I was sad along with Cat, she really do live Bones.

all in all, veryyyy niiice. hope you enjoyy it too

This is the third book in the Night Huntress series. It was a good addition to the series; not quite as engaging as the first two books but still very well done. This is definitely straight urban fantasy and the fun tension between Cat and Bones is decreased from previous books. I listened to this on audio book and the audio book was well done; in fact I think I enjoyed listening to this more than I would have enjoyed reading it.

It's been a few months since the last book. Cat is continuing to work as bait and Bones is one her vampire hunting team. When Cat's identity is outed she is finally forced to face her father. Shortly after this Mencheres makes Bone's, an offer Bone's can't refuse. Unfortunately it is an offer that places Cat and Bones right in the middle of a vampire war with a very old and mean woman vampire who has a bone to pick with Bones.

This book is a straight urban fantasy. There are a lot of great action scenes and the plot moves along at an excellent clip. We get to learn a lot more about Mecheres and he is an excellent character. We also meet Vlad, yep the original Dracula, and he was another great character that hits it off with Cat surprisingly well.

While the plot, action, and character additions were all great there was something missing in this book. Cat and Bones don't have that heat and wittiness that they had in the previous two books. They both seemed in love but tired. I didn't find myself laughing out loud as much with this book; I didn't find myself absolutely enrapt by their interactions. There are a couple sex scenes but they are boring, quick, and relatively emotionless.

Bones and Cat do have to face huge obstacles to their relationship. I enjoyed that they were mature with each other and made responsible decisions; they make a wonderful couple. I was disappointed though that they didn't display the enormous love coupled with lust for each other that they did in the previous two books. Let's face it these two pretty much make this series and without their witty banter things aren't nearly as entertaining and exciting. There is still some humor in the story; it is just not as present between Bones and Cat as it was in the first two books.

Tate features quite a lot in this book. He makes a play for Cat in a big way. This was entertaining, but at the same time I couldn't help feeling that he came across as a bit pathetic...I felt a bit sorry for him. The scene where they fight the Grave was absolutely fantastic action-wise; just a great epic battle-type scene. I love zombies and loved their inclusion in this book :-)

All that being said the book ends well, the story is progressed well, and it is a decent urban fantasy read.

Overall this isn't my favorite book in the series. The plot, action, and new characters added are great. The witty banter and heat between Cat and Bones is significantly decreased; and I felt its absence profoundly. I will definitely read book 4, Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress, Book 4), but if it follows the path of this book I may not read anymore of this series.

There was so much up and down in this book. A lot of "oh no, not again" and then "phew, crisis averted". That said, I found it easier to set aside than the the first two books. Will I still read the series, most definitely, but I can't not compare to the other novels. I did really appreciate getting more details on secondary characters, particularly seeing their relationships with Cat and Bones independently. I wish I had more of an understanding of the depth of Tate and Cat's friendship, I think it would make her fierce defense over him/their friendship easier to understand. Once again, the narrator is astounding!

One thing I need to make very clear from the start is that this lacked the big sexy-sex type scene that the previous two books had in the later third of the novel. There is sex, but it isn't as emphasized here. If you're here predominantly for that then you might be slightly disappointed at its lack. Not that we're really left that much wanting, as there's plenty to fill the space here.

As always, I have to give praise for the excellent narration that Gilbert brings to this entry. I've grown incredibly fond of her narrating style and the extra oomph she puts into everything. Rather than give a flat reading, she tries to make the reading seem a little more natural. This extra effort makes it into a really fun experience.

Story-wise, this is very much a transitional novel in places. We've already had our two lovers meeting and the first big problems stand in their way, so now comes the task of finding something else to focus on. We're given a fairly interesting villain for this entry, but even as fun as this book was I couldn't help but keep noticing that she was more there to provoke the changes necessary for the next book. This isn't really a criticism, just an observation, mind you.

Overall this was a fun listen and if you've been following the series so far then you'll want to keep on with this one.

I find it funny that with all of the vampire books I have read over the years, I still have not tired of the theme. In this third book in the Night Huntress series, Jeaniene Frost continues to make life interesting for Cat and Bones and friends by adding a little magic to the mix, specifically from the legendary Cleopatra's daughter-turned-vampire, Patra, who also happens to be Bones's grandsire-turned-partner, Mancheres's wife. Life as a vampire only becomes more convoluted for Cat as Bones gains a few new abilities, and Cat learns why vamps are not allowed to practice magic. When they learn that Patra has sent "the grave" after Bones, I had visions of horror movies dancing in my head - and I was not that far off in my guesses. Since I am not a fan of this particular fad in fantasy fiction, I was glad that Frost depicted these paranormal creatures so horrifically.
One of the elements that I also like about this series is the humor - which Frost delivers in the form of Cat's mother, who embraces the circumstances of Cat and friends' protection with surprising relish. Without spoiling this juicy tidbit, I will say I laughed out loud when I read about the change in Cat's mother.
On the flip side, when anguish hits Cat hard, I felt her pain more than I expected to, even though I harbored doubts about what had really occurred. The emotion that Frost conveys in this section of the plot feels as real as if I felt the same loss as Cat.
There are many other interesting tidbits in the book, such as what almost occurs with Tate - and the result, Juan's decision, as well as the truce that develops between Annette and Cat. This is why I love series - side characters get more plot time, subplots can continue to mature, and I don't have to leave the imagined world behind just because I closed the book! I can't wait for the next book, Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress, Book 4).

Ah!! The third installment, At Grave's End, of Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series is BRILLIANT! I loved it. Loved it. I'm sorry, I should have warned you to brace yourself for all the excitement that probably just smacked you in the face. I will try to calm myself from here on out- and remind myself that I'm not talking about a new lover (because that is what it sounds like!) Whoo, ok- getting serious now.

At Grave's End was an intense, thrilling read that made my toes curl. They curled whilst I blushed and giggled... and when I was made nervous for our heroine's life. Talk about an emotional (and gruesome) rollar coaster. I have to start describing the book for you now or I will get carried away with how enamored I am with it... I think the book had a more Urban Fantasy feel to it with Cat and Bones jumping from one issue to the next with their special ops team. Lots of fantastic gore and chaos- wonderful, witty, sarcastic dialoge... tons of humor! There is a good bit of blood in this one- so you blood thirsty readers out there will be pleased. Cat and Bones encounter the extremely powerful, dangerous enemy (ha, and wife!) of Bone's grandsire. She wants to see Cat and Bones dead. Bones declares a vampire war and all must choose sides. Thankfully, Bones has chosen to allie himself with his grandsire and gains some sweet new powers.

There is a moment in this book that made me tear up. Cat and Bones are slapped in the face with the possibility that one may have to live without the other... again. This scene is completely heartbreaking- imagine your worst fear being realized and then coming true. (Don't worry, we get some delicious *intimate* bedroom scenes. Should I have mentioned that earlier?) Nothing can come between this power couple... Not even Tate. Yea, you, Tate! Even though some characters become boring when they find their happily ever after- this devoted couple didn't disappoint me. I was hooked until the end. I really enjoyed their occasional spats- Even the most perfect couple isn't in constant bliss. It made them seem like a normal couple... I love realistic, logical fights.

You have to read this book. The banter between Bone's and Justina is hilarious! Justina gets a lover... oh, and so many other things happen that will just make you pump your arm and say 'yessss.' I wish I could spill more beans, but I'm not into spoilers. ;]

It is really late and I haven't eaten all day, so let me apologize for what I've written above. I will be too lazy to go back and change it tomorrow. FIVE stars for Ms. Cat Crawfield! And GOODnight!!

Cat aka the Red Reaper keeps being spotted, no matter what colour she dyes her hair or contact lenses she wears, the undead world keep seeing past her disguises. And one vampire in particular seems to want Cat and her undead lover Bones dead, and they are willing to employ dark magics to do it.

Another fantastic installment in the Night Huntress series, can Jeaniene Frost do no wrong? At Grave's End is one of the highlights of this series, it has heart rending moments leaving you in a puddle of tears and some humourous parts that will keep you smiling.

As usual it is packed full of action and an interesting story line that lets you see in to past of some of the different characters, but what I am really interested in is the relationship between Cat and Bones. They are a passionate, volatile but head over heels in love couple and together they create enough romantic conflict to keep their relationship interesting.

Love this series, if you haven't started it, I highly recommend you give it a go!

I am really enjoying this series, more than I thought I would. This book somewhat, and I really mean somewhat because it is about vampires reminds me of Twilight. A VERY adult version of Twilight with lots and lots of violence and very graphic sex scenes. Think last Twilight book and what would have happened if they really did go to war. Well this book is it. There is a war and it is very ugly and messy.

With her first two Night Huntress books, Jeaniene Frost showed she could make me laugh and she could write one heck of a sex scene. Now she proves she can make me cry too. I loved this third installment of the Cat & Bones books every bit as much as the ones that came before it, only this one added a deeper emotional resonance.

As our story begins, half vampire Cat and her full-vampire husband Bones are working together to lead a government team, targeting dangerous supernaturals. Work is good; their relationship is strong. But happiness quickly goes in the toilet when Cat's evil vampire father Max comes back into the picture, bent on killing his daughter. Of course, he doesn't succeed, but he does major damage, and heralds the latest master-plot to kill Cat. The main storyline surrounds this latest big bad, a Master named Petra. But there is a lot going on in the background too: Tate's infatuation with Cat and the lengths he'll go to in order to win her love; Bones' relationships with other vamps and their political wrangling; Mencheres' tortured history; and the growing "family" that Cat has created for herself in her new life.

There are two points in the book where Cat faces immeasurable tragedy. One works itself out happily. One does not. Both brought me to tears.

I love Cat & Bones. It's amazing that one relationship can sustain an entire series of romance books, but I can't imagine growing bored with them. This series is fast paced, fun, sexy and easy to read. Two big thumbs up. 5 stars.

In this third installment of the Night Huntress series, Cat and Bones are back together and back in action. Even though Bones has joined Cat's team in fighting the rogue undead, he can't help that she is being recognized before their jobs even have the chance at succeeding. Because of the ceremonies and instances in the last book, Cat is known to the undead world and it is no secret Bones's lover has a target on her back.

This of course isn't the only problem. Just when Cat and Bones try to discover who has called the hit on her pretty red head, they are both dragged into a war in which the target is now Bones. The entire book revolves around a plot involving a two thousand year old scorned lover named Patra, and she is out for more than blood. She wants Bones dead in order to stop her fate from coming to pass.

Like the two previous novels, this book packed quite a punch. So many twists, turns, fights, betrayals, "turncoats," and action...this book will not disappoint the lovers of the genre. There are so many new character and plot introductions that turning each page is a true joy and pleasure. I was sad to end this book and it is with that sadness that I pay the highest compliment to the author.

Cat and Bones continue to be the best bad-ass couple out there, never failing to capture my attentions with their sarcasm, irony, and nasty little quips. They are two of my favorite characters, the one only being so great because of the other. And that my fellow readers, is how you character build.

I don't want to continue on much longer because it is much more fun to turn each page and discover all of the new treats Jeaniene Frost laid out for yourselves. If you are a vampire fiction, paranormal, romance, or urban fantasy fan, then this book will entice, excite, and leave you wanting more than just a nibble. I recommend this for all fans of the Black Dagger Brotherhood and Midnight Breed series. Even those just entering the world of PNR (paranormal romance) should definitely add this series to their collection.

This book has more action than the others. It seems like every time they turn around someone is trying to kill them. With all the action it left no time for romance between Bones and Cat but with everything going on, you hardly miss it. First Cat is attacked my her father, then there is a suicide bombing at a vampire ceremony where Bones aligns himself with a master vampire, Mencheres, who has special powers, Bones makes a couple more vampires and then there are even more attempts on their lives. I don't want to go into too many details because the surprises in this book are rather shocking.

Even though there wasn't a lot of Cat and Bones time, there was some. But I think my favorite part was with Tate and Cat. They get pretty close and steamy on a mission. They have to act like a couple and when the vamps don't believe them, they are forced to get rather close and intimate. I would be lying if I said I wasn't rooting for Tate. I don't know why but for some reason in this book he really stepped up for me and plays a big part in Cat's life.

The story moves at a fast pace and with all the battles that are taking place there is a lot going on. Cat's mother is around a lot more in this book since she is staying with them after their location is compromised. She seems to lightening up some and isn't as uptight as the last books. She has become more comfortable with Rodney the ghoul and even Bone's as well.

One Foot in the Grave was brilliant, better than Halfway to the Grave, in my opinion, but At Grave's End ramps it up even more. The third installment in the Night Huntress series is breathtaking. No, these books aren't intellectual, and don't require a lot of thought. What they is incredible well plotted and paced, and have a cast of very strong, utterly unforgettable characters.

Cat and Bones are settled into a relationship. Cat's told her mother to like it or leave it, and Bones now works by her side, after they've come to an agreement with her work. But Cat's job is getting harder, as she's now more recognisable, and someone from Bone's past is emerging with a vendetta.

Once again, the book is non-stop action, but we a see a lot less of that action between Cat and Bones in the bedroom. I'd read a few people lamenting the loss of this, but I can't say I did. Don't get me wrong--these scenes are one of the things I really do like about the series (I feel like a pervert!), but we see a deeper connection between Cat and Bones here, which I appreciated even more. The energy between the two is still crackling, and I appreciate it just as much. We're seeing a deeper emotional side to all the characters here.

About two thirds of the way through this book, something heartbreaking happens, and the reaction to it left me nearly in tears. The grief is palpable, and this is as well written as anything else I've encountered in the genre. There is a scene between one of our old favourites, and new (but famous) addition which I thought was perfect. It made my heart ache.

We see a new side to many of our favourite characters, and the humour inheritant in these books that I love so much is there, absolutely sparkling. There are two notable scenes that had me laughing out loud involving Bones and Justina, and another with Cat and a new addition to the cast: Vlad. Vlad is a LOT of fun.

The showdown in the end of this book had me holding my breath. It actually reminded me of the finale of one of my favourite vampire slayin' shows, now long-gone from TV (not the first time in this series have made me recall a show involving a certain slayer, and certain sexy british vampire). This final showdown, with everyone choosing to stand their ground, and choosing their death (a reference to one of Bone's long-dead friends from the first book).

If you've read the first 2 books in the series, this installment is an absolute must-read. I don't know how she's done it, but Frost is getting better and better.

Another installment in the Cat and Bones saga. Not my favorite thus far, but very good nonetheless.

My favorite things about this book:
- Bones, of course. Still incredibly hot and sexy, and now even more powerful than before.
- Cat. I like her attitude overall. She's not a wishy-washy female lead. She sees what needs to be done and does it. She does not let emotions interfere with her actions.
-Cat's mom (Justina). This book shows a whole new side of her. I was laughing so hard reading the sections about her. Rodney deserves a medal!

I wish:
- We would have gotten more of Dave's transition to ghoul. This book picked up about four months after the last book, so we missed the newness of him. I would have really liked to see what it was like for him and the struggles involved with that. I'm sure it cannot be easy waking from the dead!
- We would have gotten more of Patra. There was so much potential for a whole background story on her and Menechres, and I feel that it was all just pushed to the side and let die. I would have loved to know more about the magic used and the daughter of Cleopatra.

Cat is working jobs for Don with her friends, Bones is by her side, and her mom is slowly progressing into acceptance of her son-in-law. One could think Cat finally got her happily ever after but they would be wrong. After a very unfortunate meet up with her father Max, all hell breaks loose and her patriarch is the least of her worries. A very ancient power, in the form of an Egyptian vampire is out to get their blood.

Frost delivered yet another action-packed novel. I really am in love with this series for it's great characters, fantastic plot and the wide range of emotions Jeaniene brings to her readers. I laughed out loud, felt like biting my nails `cause of unbearable suspense and also shed a few tears.

Cat is still as strong as ever and will show even more character when she will be in a crisis situation that can't compare to anything she ever faced. I really felt for her in that book, thanks to Jeaniene's fine writing I really shared Cat's desperation and grief. We also get to see a much more revengeful side (Is that even possible?) to Bones and he will surprise more than one, allies and foes mingled. Tate is still hanging to the hopes of being with Cat and I have to admit, while I understand his reasons, his stubbornness is starting to annoy me, I just wish he would get over it already. I was happy to see Spade and Rodney again, I really like those two, especially the latter, he just has that little something that makes him special.

We were also introduced to Vlad, also known as Dracula. Him and Bones really hate each other but I found myself quite found of him, especially after a little acting act he pulled with Cat in a cinema and after a moment when he helped Cat bounce back after a very painful event. This character has more to offer than eye can see and I really hope to see him again in the following books.
Some characters also died in this book and it really broke my heart, hopefully Jeaniene won't make an habit of killing her actors.

The end was special, we got a demonstration of what vampire powers can be like and it's rather scary. I can't wait to see the consequences in the following installments.

Overall I really love this series, I already have the fourth book at home, but I think I won't read it just yet `cause we have so long to wait until the next C&B book. If you haven't started this series yet, I strongly suggest you do, you won't regret it!

Cat Crawfield should be having the time of her life. She is finally with her love Bones, has the job of her dreams, and is surrounded by a wonderful group of friends and family. But the undead are catching onto them and know that the Red Reaper is working under different disguises. Not only are the undead catching on, but a woman from Bones's past wants her out of the picture. Will Cat and Bones be able to work together seamlessly, or will their strong personalities rip them apart? Can Cat put aside her human instinct, that which will not help her in the world of the dead and undead, and put all her trust in her vampiric nature?

The Grave Series is definitely one of my favorite new series to come out, but I still felt like this story fell short of the previous two books. The plot seemed over-worked, and there was just too much going on in the story to make it enjoyable. Trying to keep track of the many character additions didn't help in this either. There were some really fantastic characters and background added to the story though, so it wasn't all bad. Instead of it being a fast paced read that I couldn't put down, I felt myself struggling to make it through the book. I love Cat and Bones, and the world Frost has created, but some of the plot was pointless and I wasn't falling for what was given to me.

One of the better parts of the story is some surprises via Cat's mom. As well as a surprise character that is very ancient and very likeable in my opinion.

Overall, the story was ok. I wasn't thrilled, and am hoping that Book 4 will have the kinks that showed up Book 3 worked out. If you were already a fan of the first two books, I don't think you should pass up on this story. I just wouldn't rush out right away and get it if there are others on your list.

I would like to say that the cover and inside page is absolutely STUNNING.

To sum things up: Didn't love it, didn't hate it.

This was my favorite book in the series so far. I love the pacing of this series! Jeaniene Frost writes these books in such a way that you just keep reading, no matter what.
The plot thickens in At Grave's End...I really enjoyed the addition of the new characters and the growth of some of the main characters, especially Cat.

There were two parts in this book that shocked me. I won't say what, but let's just say that putting the book down was never an option! Also, At Grave's End had fewer bedroom scenes than either of the first two books. Book two, One Foot in the Grave was a little too much for me, so I was glad to see that part of the series reined in.

Just One Gripe:
My gripe is that I thought this series was concluded at four books (there are four books out now). I just read on Frost's website that there will probably be eight books in the series! I need to find out how it ends now, not years from now!!

The Best Thing About This Book:
The plot and the pacing.

SYNOPSIS: Basically the plot seemed to be that a woman wanted to get back at Bones and his Grandsire so she chose this time to try to kill just about anybody and everybody who came in contact with them in order to kill the two of them.

OPINION:
I know that book synopsis sounds as if I couldn't figure out the purpose of this book so I suppose I've achieved what I wanted with it. I have absolutely loved every other Night Huntress book. This one, not so much. The main reason is that, even though I finished reading the book yesterday, I'm still trying to put it into a logical, cohesive framework. For me it just seemed to wibble and wobble from one crisis to the next with barely a moment for breathing in between. Another problem is that every single character continues to be prominent with new people and "things" being added all the time. It's getting crowded in there folks! Cat and Bones are married now, at least in the vampire style of marriage, and are planning their "human" wedding. Except that someone keeps trying to kill everybody. There were so many subplots going on within this basic plot that it all became rather tired and confusing for me. Too many vampires killing for too many different reasons which did, to be fair, eventually tie back to the basic plot. Notice I said eventually. But it was so over-the-top. And I have to tell you that I was sitting there begging Bones to take Tate out of the picture altogether. As in kill him dead, and mean it! For some inexplicable reason this author wrote Tate (previously one of my very favorite characters) with a death wish a mile wide. And that situation in the limo was waaaay out of line for the way those two characters had been built up from the first Night Huntress book. No, that didn't work for me in any way, shape or form. These were really unusual reactions for me when it comes to a Jeaniene Frost novel. These things (and others I can't talk about without stepping into spoiler land) made me not like this book nearly as well as the previous two.

RECOMMENDATION:
Yes, still recommended reading (even though I moved my rating down to a 3) just so that everybody will be on the same page for book four, but I would sincerely suggest that readers new to the series NOT start here. Go pick up Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, Book 1) and One Foot in the Grave (Night Huntress, Book 2) and read those first. Don't leave this one out, just use the others to familiarize yourself with the characters. Personally, I'm getting ready for Cat's mother to take a little vacation. I'm told Florida is nice any time of year.

Third installment of the Night Huntress series starts with Cat's father, Max. He held Justina (her mother's home) as a bait so he can get to Cat. It was terrifying and downright disgusting, here Frost showed the good vs. th bad in all people and the supernatural. Max belonged to the truly evil. He tortured Cat just in the nick of time that her knight and shining armor had rescued her. We were then thrown into a whirlpool of events. Tate volunteered to become a vampire. Bone's grandsire Mencheres asked Bones is he could ally with him. He have a gift of seeing glimpse into the future, and told them that was is coming. At the ceremony a hors d'oeuvre of humans exploded on the spot not long after that the whole mansion was engulfed with flames. They caught one vampire and confessed the name of his Master. The name is Petra, the daughter of Cleopatra, we then found out that she is Mencheres estranged wife set to kill out Bones and she thought if she kills Cat first Bones will be an easy target. You see grandsire told his propesterous wife that in time a vampire will marry a non-human nor a vampire, he then will stab her with a silver knife that will lead to her permanent death. After that, a plan was formulated but a betrayal lead to a strong possiblity that no one ever anticipated.

Book three is a totally in a different ball game. No sickly sweet undying love or endless Chapter 32s (Don't fret my luv. There's still libido haywire inducing scenes that we all like, just nothing that can top 32). Book three is darker, more action pack and a lot suspenseful and made our characters stronger. I was an emotional ride. The plot was driven by vengeance out of lost love and test of loyalties. If book one was all about introduction, book two was all about second chances at love, this book is all about what breaks it and what bonds it stronger. There was jealousy, faith, friendship, grief, and strength. The banter between Bones and Justina were laugh out loud. Once again Ms. Frost impressed me, the same love I developed for Vampire Academy and Southern Vampire Mystery has been born in reading this series. Well written, I couldn't even explain the intensity every chapter brings. If you haven't read any book in this series. You are missing a lot! Grab a copy and place this book on your list of top priority must-reads.

The Night Huntress series continues to pick up speed in its third installment, At Grave's End. Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her 250-year-old vampire boyfriend, Bones, have made a commitment to be together no matter how many obstacles are in their way. Despite the hatred of Cat's mother, the disapproval of her boss and team members and the natural difficulties of being in love with a Master Vampire, Cat is happier than she's ever been.

Typically, that happiness is short-lived when Cat's mother taken by one of her greatest enemies. That threat begins a domino effect of troubles that seem to stem from the mysterious Menenches, an ageless and ancient Egyptian vampire who is Bones' grandsire and co-master of his line. Soon, Bones' life is in danger and everyone Cat loves is next. A new enemy is revealed with an unthinkable and insatiable army, and Cat is left to -- what else? Save the world.

New characters such as Menenches and the infamous and chuckle-worthy Vlad breathe new life into the story. I really loved the kitchy addition of Vlad, and hope to see more of him in future novels. In addition to these new players, old favorites are back and returning characters from other novels also return in enhanced roles (and in come cases, different forms.) Frost is masterful at creating realistic, humorous banter in the midst of surreal fantasy situations. That's one of the "it factors" that makes her books so special and so readable in a sea of other, similar material in the paranormal romance/urban fantasy genre.

Predictably, I can't wait to devour the next book, Destined for an Early Grave.

Basic premise: Since Cat's identity has been blown and it is now known that she is the wife of Bones, a powerful master Vampire is empowered with fear to stop Bones from carrying out an old prophetic vision of Bone's being this vamp's demise. With this in mind, Cat, Bones, and friends must take it upon themselves to declare war in order to stop this "vengeful vamp" from killing more innocent lives, as well as their own.

I loved how this book still had the same tone as from the previous two of the series; awesome, page-turning action sequences with the good guys vs. the bad guys...obviously the dark humor Frost welds wonderfully...twisted, trashy situations we find our main characters in....sarcastic one-liners...Basically, the same tone with twisted, dark comedy thrown into a mix of the good guys serving justice to the evil guys.

Thankfully, Frost manages to up the ante with even MORE mind-boggling scenarios; some more cool supernatural events I have yet to have seen in any other paranormal read... Historically-known figures are brought to life and/or are referenced to, yet still manages to come off as believable. As always, Frost exceeds expectations with how she intertwines her characters with such distinctness and in a just manner.

Remarkably, even when we as readers find our characters at war with the present villains, even when BECAUSE of this war we see less of the steamy passion between Bones and Cat in the form of hot love scenes and romance; I find myself falling more in love with the idea of these two people. I thought it was impossible, but even at in the time of war, it brings to light this fierce love between Cat, the Reaper and her love and husband, Bones.

Cat still reigns in her admirable ability to be so compassionate. She has grown so much in character and is still growing. In this book, we have the pleasure to see her find her TRUE identity; who she truly sees herself as. And in the name of all that is holy....Bones(!) I have never read of such a more dashing man who can pull off being what he is and is capable of.... How he can be one of the most dangerous, perverted, humorous, beautiful alpha-males I've ever seen grace before my eyes and you either like it or not. He's so very confident in who he is. He's graciously eloquent, a fierce lover, a loyal friend; and overall good MAN. The mere essence of him should NOT be passed up.

Through the midst of war, you learn that you can't have the one without the other; The romance between this half-breed and vampire will not always be center stage, but it will always be present and lingering and felt and recognized. There is no Cat without Bones. There is no Bones without Cat. This is one of the resonating notions I was left after reading the book.

And all occurring in a time of war. So suit up well as Frost will take your through yet another circumstance where the good must take a stand against evil; basically, another awesome novel to the series :)

Married at least in terms of vampire laws, half-breed Cat Crawfield and pure bloodsucker Bones are euphoric. They were manipulated cleverly by her family keeping them apart for years. Now they live together and Bones has joined the government agency run by her uncle hunting rogue vampires.

Already the most successful team due to Cat's unique prowess, the addition of Bones makes the unit seemingly invincible. However, the vampire world recently learned that Cat is the notorious Red Reaper making her a Scarlet letter type target to her enemy and that Bones is a traitor. While struggling to stay alive from hunter-vamps especially one who loathes Bones for dumping her, they must prevent a war of magic from devastating the world.

The latest Night Huntress urban fantasy (see HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE and ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE) series is a powerful entry as the overarching theme moves forward with increasing complexity; while also containing an action-packed story line and intensifying the lead couple's romantic relationship. Now that Cat is outed, she wears a bulls-eye on her forehead as vampiric gunslingers know taking her down would make them into an over night superhero, not that Bones will sit idly allowing that to happen. Sub-genre fans will fully enjoy Cat's saga, as Jeaniene Frost's tour of the world of the "Grave" is deep yet fun to follow.

This was the perfect book for a stormy, gray day. This series has been a fantastic find and a wild ride and the third novel is no exception. Cat is half-vampire/ half-human and she has two loves: 1. Bones,a 245 year old British master vamp who taught her everything she knows about fighting and the species of her father, the vampires, whom she did not grow up knowing, And 2. Killing any ghoul or vampire who tries to harm a human.

Now just when life is starting to get as normal as it can for someone like her and wedding bells are in the air...it all proverbially hits the fan. Daddy dearest comes to say hello and give her a little torture, huge alliances are made along with new friends and enemies, and war breaks out in the vampire world with her and her loved ones smack dab in the middle of it. Cat, a woman who normally thinks nothing is out of reach finds herself set a drift when plans go fatally wrong, the worst Christmas present ever. But as usual it's Cat that will have the last laugh.

Witch craft and ancient feuds of the past reach out through the pages to creep the heck out of the reader. And even though I did the forbidden and snuck a peak at the last page so that I knew someone survived, I still cried like a baby, trapped in the emotional grip of Ms. Frost's writing. You won't be wasting your time falling into this series grip!

I was not impressed at all with the first half of this book. The special ops style plot is not entertaining, in fact it's getting a bit old. Cat dressing like a prostitute and making out with target vampires is not a plot line that I'd like to explore anymore. Even with the encounter with Max the first half of the book fell short. I didn't start enjoying the plot until Patra came into the picture. Then we get mystery, action, gore, magic, and betrayal. I was able to read the entire book and enjoy it somewhat. If this book was entirely military style missions then I would have been bored out of my mind, and I never would have finished it. It's nice that the end of this book is actually an ending. There is no cliffhanger, no mystery, nothing unsolved that requires us to continue. The best series have this. They have a large plot that continues throughout the series with each book having it's own interesting plot. If you don't give us a reason to continue reading, we might just stop. The only reason to continue this series is the characters, and I'm not a fan of any of them really. I'll have to go against the crowd and say that Bones isn't very impressive. He loves Cat and he is nice to her, he also likes to torture things. I'm just not impressed with this series, there is no "it" factor, nothing that makes this stand out as great.

I don't give many written reviews anymore, but I'm this case I have to! This is one of the most well written, concise, spell- binding series I have EVER read! The main characters become more believable with each book.... and the new ones jump on for the ride! Not since reading Charlaine Harris's True Blood series have I found another to compare.... and since I would rather read than eat... that is high praise indeed... if my opinion is counted. I am downloading the next book in the series as I write this so.... hats off to you Jeanie Frost! You are most definitely a powerhouse in the fantasy genre!

At Grave's End by Jeaniene Frost is the third in the night huntress series. This one takes place not too long after the last book left off. In this tale Bones has an offer he can't refuse, so to speak. He aligns himself with his grandsire and they take on a woman of incredible power. It's war and the vampires in the world must chose sides.

This book was one I actually did not look forward to reading. I had heard some bad reviews, but I really can't understand it except to say they wanted more of the relationship between Cat and Bones instead of all the action they were getting. I, for one, was not disappointed in the least. In fact, I would consider this book the best of the three so far. Great action, good character development within vampire politics. It was a very interesting and fast read. Plus, I finally found myself liking her mother for once. That was nice in itself. Even the character of her mother was not left out and was developed further as well.

Within the twist and turns of the novel, you might be prepared to bring a tissue or two during the reading toward the end, but I assure you, that the ending is worth it.

I enjoyed the time I spent reading "At Grave's End". I thought the story was interesting and especially enjoyed the character's interactions with each other. I thought the storyline with Cat's mom and Rodney was a hoot and I was entertained each and every time Cat and Bones went to work. I thought the Cat/Bones relationship was very much appealing still and I didn't find the romance aspect lacking in any way. I had one problem that was the reason I gave this third book in the series a 3 star review. I felt this book was very disjointed. Discoveries were made and things revealed in a patchwork type of manner and more than once I was so confused by something that I had to re-read a little bit. The author also didnt' make very smooth transitions from scene to scene. While this didn't dim the enthusiasm I felt reading the story, I still didn't feel the same satisfaction..the same feeling of stumbling upon something magical...that I did in reading the first two volumes. If Frost's stories never were written better than this one here, I would still enjoy them enough to keep reading. Any paranormal fiction fan out there who hasn't started this series would be missing something very much worth reading.

Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her undead husband Bones are now working in tandem to rid the world of undesirable vampires. Bones is now a Master Vampire on his own, without allegiance to another, and responsible for all in his line. He accepts an offer from his grandsire Mencheres to a permanent alliance, which gives him some of his power. But an old and powerful vampire is trying to kill both Bones and Cat, and harnessing black magic forbidden to vampires to do it, and even their combined might may not be enough to stop her.

Frost steps up the action in this third volume of the series, and changes the character dynamics when Dave is turned into a ghoul and Tate is turned into a vampire. While the action was entertaining, I found myself getting a little bored and impatient with the endless iterations of undying love between our heroes, and the gratuitous sex scenes which admittedly were short enough to be tolerable. Cat's stubbornness and jealousy at times also became a little trying, but it's obviously an attempt to keep the heroine from becoming too perfect, especially as her fighting prowess stretches credulity more and more. But the book moves along at a smart pace, and is easy to go through like candy.

I really enjoyed this installment in the Night Huntress series. But I do think this installment was a tad bit slower than the others. The other books were really fast paced page after page. I am still loving Cat and Bone's relationship, of course, and I was so glad to finally see Vlad :) Since I read Once Burned before reading this series, I already knew who he was and I loved him. That whole demeanor of his... The only thing I really didn't enjoy about this book was Tate. Omg, he was quite annoying and I just couldn't deal. I feel as though he needs to just get over his feelings for Cat because it just ain't happening. It's kind of like a waste of page space. Overall, I enjoyed the book. It still had great action and awesome romance and I can't wait to continue on with the series! :)

The books in this series are amazingly written with fresh new ideas and always make me lose myself into the books until I have finished it.

I started reading the Night Huntress World series before I knew there was earlier history I was missing from the Night World series. I had checked them out online from the library and eventually I ran into the problem of them only having the audio version. Don't let that through you off! The audio version is spoken by Tavia Gilbert, and she does an amazing job. I haven't really liked audio versions before hearing how she reads the books.

The lack of steamy scenes in this book didn't bother me at all. Sure I sometimes like real steamy but I find too much of it in a series also puts me off. These books stand out. The characters are well formed. I cannot wait to see what Jeaniene Frost will come out with next!

I am fully and totally addicted to this series. It goes so far as to affect the books I read following. I cannot get the story out of my head. Jeaniene Frost has this ability to suck you in whole-heartedly, keep you there until the very last word, and then leave you lusting for more. The world she created feels so real and familiar. I've said it before in reviews of her books and I will probably say it again. The intense desire to get just a little more of Cat and Bones is akin to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. So good.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but At Grave's End seems a little slower then the two previous books. It is still an exciting 5 star read. Maybe the infamous chapter 32 in One Foot In The Grave is so hard to follow. The let down, if you will, was not enough to even knock a star off my rating, so I guess it's not worthy of that much attention.

I love that Cat and Bones' relationship is real. It is passionate and sexual to give us that fix. But they also have disagreements that need working though. In not being `perfect', they become much more loveable and ideal for each other. Cat and Bones truly have a romantic and as well as lustful relationship.

There is an incredible twist 3/4th the way through that is heart wrenching. Since I try not to drop spoilers, I will leave that as a teaser instead.

After three books, the Night Huntress series continues to add new characters and evolve old ones. The plots are not transparent and the use of multiple types of paranormal figures adds a layer of intrigue. Vampires, ghouls, ghosts, and zombies. Oh, my!

Conclusion:
As anyone who follows my blog or reviews knows, I adore this series! It is very highly recommended for anyone who loves the paranormal, good romance, or a suspenseful series!

I love the first 2 books and love this one but just not quite as much. That being said, the book is still wicked good.

Pros:
1. I like how the book centers around the Cat and Bones and the fact that many of the important side characters comes back. It allows room for their relationship to change and grow and that's really fun to read. I feel like these characters are my friends now. Often times, I find that I don't get the same connection in series that focuses on one character/couple before moving on to someone else in the next book.

2. I appreciate the return of old plot lines that are intermingled with new ones.

3. The darker and edgier feel of the book, in comparison to the other 2, adds new interest.

Cons:
1. The chemistry that is so wonderful between Cat and Bones in the first 2 books was just a bit flat in this one.

2. There were a bit too many new characters that were not as fully developed so I find myself having to pause and remember who everyone is.

That being said, I'm in mourning that I have to wait until July for the next book.

I was finally able to come back to the Night Huntress Series and I couldn't be happier. I have been attached to this book for the past few days and once it was over I knew it still wasn't enough of one of my favorite couples, Cat and Bones. Of course coming back to this series meant I was thrown right back into the action as Cat and Bones take on more vampires for her job with her Uncle Don. Everything was just as great as I remembered it being but since book two was mainly all about how Cat works at her new job I knew we wouldn't forever be stuck on this single killing vampires focus.

Luckily, I was right and the story started to move into deeper plot lines. The vampires might just end up being at war all because one vampire can not accept the fact that she didn't get her way so long ago. With war close at hand you really get to see our who gang of characters step up to the plate to prepare for war. At this point we finally got to see more of how the vampire world really works, before it was just about killing them, now it is about understanding their culture, their rituals and preferences. This was a really great part of this book because I always wanted to know how Bones operates in his vampire world and I finally got to see it happen.

Aside from the story the characters are a huge part of what to love about this series. Cat herself is a great kickass heroine, she isn't afraid to go out there and get her hands dirty and there was one fight scene inparticular where Cat was in rare form, it was great to watch. Ok, so I might have become a little blood thirsty... take that how you may! Plus we have Bones, I love him to pieces, there is nothing I would change about this former man whore, every drop of him is perfect. Plus we get to watch Bones get jealous quite a few times which was very entertaining. Speaking of entertaining all of the characters of Cat's team like to joke around and make light of the situations they are in which was present in this book, if not as much in the previous book. Oh and while we are on the subject of characters, ladies I have one name for you, Vlad! Oh I about died when I finally got to meet him! So many people are talking about him lately because his book is publishing very soon. Oh I already think I love Vlad's character and I only just met the man!

Overall, I know I have a ton of praise for the story, the loveable characters, and the great vampire history. There were a few things for me that didn't make me all out love this book. I was sad to see that this book was lacking just slightly in love scenes. I know we don't read romance just to watch a couple have their moments of passion but I missed that this time around. I know Bones is capable of some very wicked things and I for one missed that this time around. I need more in the next book because I love Cat and Bones. Also another small complaint is that while I love all of the characters in this series it was hard to remember who everyone was. There are so many people involved that it can be easy to confuse them if it has been a while between reading each book, so just keep this in mind if you start this series. Other than my two minor complaints it really was a great story that deserves 4.5 hearts.

I went nuts over the first book. I loved Cat and Bones. Their characters, their chemistry, their bantering, their love affair. The second book was not as endearing and this one felt like watching the TV show "24". After you watched the bad guys drop nuclear bombs on LA, what is there left to be amazed at?
In this installment of Cat's story, I felt that the author was thinking up wilder and crazier set ups to shock and shake the reader up. But the core of the appeal which is Cat and Bones's fabulousness just paled beside all the pyrotechnical explosions of bombs, black magic and grimey, gooey gore. Come on. The stuff about vampire society and history was pretty good, I don't want to give away the story, but Cat was just annoyingly dropping F-bombs all the time at the wrong times and with the wrong people. Bones' personality became FLAT. How can the most handsome, smartest, sexiest vampire become so boring? I am not sure I want to read the next installment. First book a 5 star, second book a 4 star and this third book, a 3 star.

So cool, so cool! Man, after book 3 this series still entertains. Good adventure scenes, and more of Bones & Cat kicking ass and coming out of it alive. Both characters get pluz gazillion points in power (yeah yeah, I know, they get stronger and stronger) and blood might be shed, but their vamps and eventually turn out ok, but that’s what I love about them.

Pretty impressed with the bad guy in this one, er gal – Patra. Oh smokes, the “grave” scene was so good. Although by the end, kinda disappointed with how fast things went down.

Must read for the series!

I did like it. I did. 3.75 stars.

One of the things I liked best about this story is the introduction of Vlad Tapesh. (You almost feel bad for the guy. Every time he's introduced to someone they probably always end up exclaiming "You're Dracula?!" But No, he's not and he will thank you kindly if you never mention that name in his hearing again.)
I love Vlad and I really love that he and Bones didn't get along. So often in paranormal stories all the alpha heroes (or heroes who you KNOW will get their own romances soon) all get along, and if they aren't best friends, they're back patting, joke sharing acquaintances (and has anyone noticed how often these jokes are about women?).
A part of the novel shows the strength of Cat and Bone's relationship after catastrophe strikes and no doubt that's what'll make this novel memorable.

Eventually it had to happen. Cat Crawfield's appearance as half-vampire, half-human is too distinctive to keep the identity of the "Red Reaper" a mystery. Meanwhile, someone very powerful wants her dead and an all-out vampire war is about to begin. Will Cat and Bones survive the melee that ensues?

Wow, Jeaniene Frost is a formidable force in the urban fantasy genre and AT GRAVE'S END solidifies she is here to stay! Both the world building and the character development are superb in this action-packed tale. Hold onto your hats, though, as this one gets a little hairy!

Cat and Bones are a remarkable couple. The love story between them has developed over the previous two books but AT GRAVE'S END takes things a bit deeper. The physical attraction isn't the focus but instead we see the emotional bond. In fact, all of the relationships develop further as Jeaniene Frost takes this world to a whole new level in AT GRAVE'S END.

AT GRAVE'S END can be read as a stand alone novel but the world is a complex one and could be a bit overwhelming to a newcomer. The relationships have also built over the course of the series and some of the nuances and subtle humor might be missed if one hasn't read the earlier books.

Jeaniene Frost isn't afraid to take chances as she does a marvelous job at keeping her world interesting. The plotlines of the Night Huntress series are not static but instead we learn more about the dangers of the vampire world in each new book. AT GRAVE'S END is an exciting installment and my only disappointment is that I now have to wait for the next one. Highly recommended!

From beginning to end - an emotional rollercoaster. For me this is a re read. Out of the series this far; this is one of the most emotionally engaging, on the edge of your seat books. I felt the anger, the loss and the betrayal. May I suggest if you haven't yet, read the books previous to this one in the series. Knowing the characters will make this journey much more meaningful

4.5 stars - First off - I have to say that I love this series and the third book didn't disappoint at all! And before I go any further, if you haven't started this series yet, you should soon because you don't know what you're missing!!

Cat and Bones have done it again in this one. Talk about a wild thrilling ride that just kept going right through to the last page. There were a couple parts in the book that shocked me, that I didn't want to believe - making me eager to keep turning the pages. Yet at the same time I was worried what might be lurking around the next corner for one of my favorite couples.

The snark that I've come to love from these two was there from the beginning. I mean for me it wouldn't be Cat and Bones if there wasn't any snark or witty comebacks from the two.

In this chapter of their story someone wants both of them dead and it's a race against the clock to not only find out whom but to beat them to the punch. It was kind of a shocker who the villain was, but it really gave some great twists and turns that I didn't see coming. Because of this enemy after them, Bones comes together to form a formal alliance with his Grandsire - Mencheres to create a stronger front to attack and defeat this said uber villain.

Like I mentioned above there was some shocking things that happen and one was so huge that I'm surprised the pages could hold it. It was hard to read because of the pain that the characters were going through, but really kind of fit because at some point even the hero has to take a knock.

The one person in this series that continues to grate on my last nerve is Tate. I mean get a life already! It's time to move on buddy! The scenes with Justina - cat's mom are always ones I look forward to. Her one liners and come backs are great, but it's always fun to see who will put her in her place. Usually Bone's gets to take on that roll and let me tell you... he knows just how to push her buttons. Really, through does Justina not deserve it pretty much all the time?

All in all it was another great book in what's fast become one of my favorite series. I read the first two books back to back last year... and just have been putting off reading this one because I didn't want to have to wait as long for the fifth book. I haven't read the forth yet and not sure that I will until the fifth book is out. Well see if I have that kind of will power.

So, if you haven't read this series yet, get up and go get them now, or order them now! You won't be sorry!

This book is actually more of a 3 1/2 star.

While reading my review, keep in mind that I did enjoy the book. I plan to continue reading the series and get the fourth book, but if my problem with this book consumes the next book I think this series and I will have to break up.

I loved a lot of the side characters in this one. Mencheres continues to be intriguing, although at times I just wanted to smack him and tell him to man up. Spade and Annette are back for more page time too. Who really caught my attention in this book was Vlad. He cracked me up. I loved watching the tension between him and Bones. Also, his power was pretty cool. He and Cat have a very powerful scene when Cat is at her lowest. I loved the glimpse we got into his motives and his secret pain.

The plot in this one is pretty simple. There aren't a lot of complicated subplots or hidden motives. That's okay, sometimes simple can be a good thing. Bones and Cat are still together and in love. They actually have some surprising news which Bones takes enormous delight in informing her mother of. The action was fun and I enjoyed the ending. I guess when you get as old as Mencheres you have some pretty wicked powers.

Now, on to my rant:

***SPOILERS***

What is wrong with Cat? Why is she still friends with that little jerk, Tate? Argh! I hate how she refuses to give up friendships/relationships that do nothing but drag her down. If she's supposed to be this kick butt girl why is she letting herself get walked all over by people that are supposed to care about her?

In the first book she let her mom ruin her relationship with Bones and made herself miserable. In the second book she let her mom spew her filthy opinion all over Bones. Why? Why would she still have a relationship with her mom if her mom doesn't add anything to her life? In this book she's resigned to their relationship, but she's still irritating! She's also extremely hypocritical. It's not okay for her daughter to share air space with a vampire, but it's okay for her to sleep with a ghoul? Where does she get off?

Also, why did no one ever confront her on her false rape charges? They acted like she didn't actually do anything wrong because Cat's dad turned out to be a bad guy. That still doesn't excuse her making a false rape charge and using that lie as a club to beat her daughter into the prejudicial mold she cast. Why did no one call her on it? It made me so mad!

I was so excited when I thought Tate might be a bad guy. I did a happy dance when I thought I might be rid of him. I was so bummed when it turned out that he was innocent. Why can't he just go away? He's such a skeeze! He took waaay too much enjoyment out of touching Cat when they were only playing a role. He knew Cat wouldn't let him touch her like that if she wasn't forced to by circumstances, but he is such a pathetic stalker that he didn't care. He groped her and enjoyed it while she sat their trying to figure out how to get out of the situation. I was so uncomfortable with the whole thing. I was really glad when Bones told her he understood why she did it, but it would never happen again.

As much as I hate Tate, it's really Cat's fault that the situation has developed like it has. She should have ended their friendship right when she realized that he had no intention of respecting her relationship with Bones. He tells her he loves her and he's better for her than Bones and tries to touch her all in front of Bones! Bones holds back because Cat would freak out if he didn't, but he should only have to take so much! He was ready to throw away a couple hundred years worth of friendship with Annabelle over her just trying to put doubt in Cat's mind. Why isn't she as committed as he is? You don't subject your husband to your obsessed friend's lustful disrespect. How hard of a concept is that?

Cat said she was realized her priorities and was going to put Bones first. She plans to quit her job, and I pray that means no more Tate.

One more thing that was really well done was Cat's reaction to Bones' disappearance. I hated Tate for trying to mack on her, but I loved her for her reaction to it. I felt her agony while he was gone. When he came back and she didn't want to wake up because she didn't want him to be gone...so sad.

Cat is on crack this is the only thing that makes sense, she is a over the top knife wielding half vampire. Cate wants to fight everybody and you know what is even more crazy about the story is she defeats everyone 3 or 4 Master Vampires. She leads poor Bones around by the nose. How can a half vampire be strong enough to defeat Master Vampires and more than one at a time. She gotta be on crack or these are some wimpy useless Master Vampires with not skills.

I didn't like the gory brutal scenes of Cat's torture by her father Max. This was to descriptive and actually made me sick to my stomach. She was staked to the floor with silver knives, burned, stabbed, beaten and slices of flesh cut off her, her bones were broken . All this was written in detail and very descriptive. Just Brutal torture!! I don't like Cat's character but this was way to much. Cat is also 28yrs old and very immature. She's written more as an impulsive teenager. She does calm down some when Bones her husband is killed or his he really?

I really didn't like At Grave's End. I still love Bones and this is why its getting 2 stars instead of 1. I might at sometime resume reading the series, but not at this time. I have had it with Cat!! I would suggest you get these books from the library to test out first before you purchase them.

My friends got me into this series, and I can't thank them enough! Cat and Bones are one of the most engaging couples going!

The third book in the Night Huntress series finds Cat back to her old ways of seducing vampires and staking them. But it isn't going quite so well.

All the favorites are in this one, including Mencheres (oh my...), Ian, Spade, Tate, and even Cat's mother. The story is intense and I love that Cat & Bones' "happily ever after" wasn't the end of the story like so many writers feel it must be, but the beginning of all new chaos

I was a little worried when I starting reading the reviews that were less favorable about this installation in the series. I remember reading that it was sad and dark and it felt disconnected to the previous 2 books. Oh how wrong they were or so I thought! I didn't love this book, sure, but it still had some of the same passion (albeit quick), and humor (not as much as before), and the supporting characters (peripheral at best) as the first 2 books. Okay...I see I'm doing it as well.

I felt this story was a connector to the previous and future book. I think the complaints I have with the book is really with the author and the quickness from plot point to plot point in the story. There isn't time discussing the scene (like JR Ward) or the other characters (like Sherrilyn Kenyon). It's tell the story, throw in sex, and some close calls and then over. Even when the tearjerker part of the book came I couldn't believe it because it was so quickly portrayed and then happy times again! There also is no real suspense about the characters. If I can't have character development...then please give me more sex!

As a stand alone - no, it wouldn't hold up on it's own. But as a way to further the story, then yes, it did what it was supposed to do. Ultimately did I like this book, yes. But not enough to be a re-read.

In the third book of Jeanine Frost's Night Huntress series, At Grave's End, someone is once again trying to kill Cat Crawford. But is it Cat they really want or are they just trying to get to her vampire husband, Bones? Is the killer someone from Cat's past or is it Bones's past that has come back for revenge? Can Cat and Bones survive to have an actual wedding?

In each book of the Night Huntress series, Frost takes us deeper into the vampire world through politics and cultural norms. Until meeting Bones, Cat was ignorant of the true world of vampires. Now she must learn quickly to save her own life and the lives of the people she loves most. Frost continues to blend the vampire hunting that is Cat's job with her new social life among the undead in a way that can make the reader uncomfortable with the apparent conflict yet understand it because it is exactly how Cat must live - partly in the human world - partly in the vampire world.

Bones and Cat are becoming a power couple in the vampire world and while that does give them some protection, it also makes them a bigger target. I love that Cat and Bones are both incredibly stubborn and how they instantly go into protective mode when a loved one is threatened. Neither one is afraid to do whatever it takes to prove that they do not bluff and that anyone who threatens them will end up dead or worse.

Frost has created the complete package with the Night Huntress books - great characters, vivid descriptions, a strong storyline, a vampire society with laws and social expectations, and hot romance.

OK so this is a hard review to write because the book is fairly new and I don't want to give the reader too much information. All I can say in my defense is that if you love this story/series and you don't read this book you will miss out.
Jeaniene (author) brought the characters to a point that I needed a box of tissues and wanted a gun the next minute. You won't be sorry or bored when you read this.
It has the pace of an Anita Blake (up & down, ringing the reader through the ringer)... To where you want a beer or wine during the course of it but of course you cannot put it down.
She has been (once I remembered the story & yes it has been awhile) one of my favorite authors.
But this book brought her to the level of expectation and greed.
You (as the reader) will search her stories out and collect everything she has written... She has come into her own like so few do, to the point that people will begin to stalk Barnes N Noble or Book a million to get the next copy.
I would love to say more but this story these moments have to be experienced w/o preview (& trust I'm the kind of person who demands a back-story).
You will be impressed... A warning be prepared to laugh & cry like you soul is dying and smile while wishing death.

If you didn't like Books 1 and 2, then you probably shouldn't have read Book 3!
By now, you will know what you will and will not get out of these books.
To put it simply, Frost is very consistent with her writing, plot and character development.
She writes excellent love scenes, and without them, nobody would read any of these books.
I guess that's why they are in the romance section, duh :)
If you are thinking about starting this series, read my reviews of the two previous installments so you know what you are getting yourself into.

I am not in a hurry to read the next installment, however, and will save it for a lazy day on the beach...

With the number of kills under her belt, Cat Crawford has earned a reputation among the undead. Widely referred to as the Red Reaper, she is both feared and revered in the vampire world and it appears that almost everyone wants a piece of the half-breed. With Bones at her side, though, Cat is ready to face any challenge that comes her way. Or is she really?

As the holiday season approaches, Cat eagerly looks forward to spending time with her loved ones. However, someone from Bones' past has a different idea of how best to spend the yuletide season and it seems that she is prepared to do anything to kill Cat. Yes, dear readers, this ancient vamp has powers beyond anything that Cat has ever imagined. No one is safe, even dreaming is not permitted unless you have a death wish.

AT GRAVE'S END is the third installment in The Night Huntress series and another fantastic book from Jeaniene Frost. I remember purchasing the first book last year uncertain of what to expect, but in spite of the slow start, I finished that book totally in love with Cat and Bones and quickly bought the second book. This third book is no different. It was a witty and enjoyable read on many levels. The trademark barbs fly between the characters. The author uses the light-hearted interaction to balance the action and gore in the story. There is abundant action to make this a fast-paced read, with a few twists that I never saw coming. And I'm not just talking about the zombies.

Some reviewers have commented on the lack of romance in this book. I guess if you are expecting to see the same unbridled lust that we did in the previous books, then you would probably be disappointed. I personally didn't feel that the romance was lacking at all. In fact, I liked how the author has taken Cat and Bones' relationship to a new level. There is a more sense of maturity and seriousness about it, and I really felt the strength of their commitment.

Jeaniene Frost does not disappoint with this solid entry. I think that her writing is getting better and better and I eagerly await the next book in the series.

She ascended to the heavens and kicked Zeus's butt, too, along with the rest of the Greek Gods. Then when she was done with them, she descended into hell and beat the Devil down too, and all his minions, stabbing them in the hearts with silver daggers. Sounds farfetched and ridiculous, right? So did a lot of the fight scenes in this book.

Spoilers on the way, read on at your own risk:

One of my biggest problems with vampire hunter books is this: What is the gauge of their power? Why are vampires who are way older and should be stronger than Cat so easy to kill? All of her fights are lackluster because she ultimately walks away without a scratch and what little injury she does get, is immediately healed. There's really no risk. The only Vampire Hunter that makes sense is Buffy, because at least her power is explained and it's what her body was designed for and there is always a risk. She even died twice. She wasn't just some vampire half breed who decided she was going to kill her kind for a living.

When Cat took on Bones line and defeated every vampire who challenged her without even breaking a sweat, considering she wasn't supposed to be in top form, I simply had to roll my eyes and damn near threw the book across the room. She's too powerful and where's the fun in that?

Moving on.... Bones is another one who's too powerful, and this was BEFORE he shared power with his grandsire. It comes off a little bit annoying that he's so powerful because it's like no one can defeat him and there's really no risk that he can die. The entire time he was assumed dead, I didn't have any inkling of doubt or worry because there was just no reason to. The way that premise was written, it just didn't give you a sense of dread. The whole time I knew he was alive and I only had to keep reading to find out when he would emerge again.

The Big bad.... Turned out to be not so big, or bad. What an anti-climatic ending. I wanted more from Patra, who was a scorned woman with a bone to pick. There really wasn't a big war, which you'd think might happen considering how so many Master vampires had to align themselves with Bones and Mencheres midway through the book. A few dead zombies, vengeful phantoms and nameless characters later, Patra gets a silver knife in her back. No big deal.

What I don't like is how every so-called enemy in the book is automatically looked down upon for their actions as if they are the worst people in the world, but whatever the "heroes" do in the book, even if it's the same thing is "Okay". Bones would kill every one in the world to get revenge on who ever hurt Cat, they don't even have to kill her, just hurt her and he goes mad with rage. But it's written to be "understandable". but Patra doing the same thing is just "unacceptable". What's good for the goose, should be good for the gander. Yes, it is mentioned in the book that that's true, but then it's quickly dismissed because the bad things are happening to them instead of someone else. It's not a major plot flaw, it's just a pet peeve of mine, I don't liked excused hypocrisy.

Even my favorite characters seemed boring in this book. Bones was kind of boring, Ian was very boring, except for the interaction he had with Cat's mom, who by the way seemed to be out of character in this book. Sure, she was her usual whiny annoying self, but she seemed all to comfortable around the vamps and ghouls than you'd expect. Seemed drastic that she'd sleep with one. Spade was almost non-existent as well. No body really stood out with bursting personality, which was disappointing. Tate is tiresome, nuff said. Juan is still just "there" and Cooper, Denise, Randy and Don could have slept in on this book.

I also thought the writing was a bit jumpy and there were far too many "fade to black" scenes.

Overall, the plot still held my interest enough for me to want to finish the book, which is why it gets three stars. I still enjoy some of the characters, so I'm moving on to book four. Still, A Drop of Crimson is the best book out of this series to me. Jeanine Frost is a decent writer and I will probably continue to read her books as I am looking forward to reading Mencheres book this summer and I hope Ian's book is next in line. This is just my constructive honest review.

This book was so full of action, things were really starting to pick up. Threats on Cat, a vampire war, it was all good stuff, good for us readers anyway, not so great for the characters. And things happen in this book that just had my emotions roaring. I knew there was a happy ending with this book, I mean we have a book 4, but at the same time I just felt my heart breaking in this book. I wanted to cry right along with some of our main characters.

I enjoyed this third book in the series as much as the second. The pacing was even better - action all the way. The plot was great, and the author was able to maintain tension until the final resolution. The only problem I had, and it's minor at this point (not enough to reduce it to 4 stars), is Tate's ongoing obsession with Cat and the author continually working Bone's old lovers into the story. She may have been continuing both to increase tension, but I think the action and "war plot" was enough without it. Both themes are wearing a little thin and I hope she resolves or drops them early in the next book and moves on. Looking forward to reading the next one.

I have never been motivated enough to write a review on any book until I read this series. After finishing the Sookie Stackhouse series I was searching for something that would keep me occupied until her next book came out. On the advise of book forum I found this series. After reading the first few pages of the first chapter online I was already hooked. After reading the first book I found myself desperate to find out what happens next. The whole series is fast passed, romantic, action filled, and full of new wonder. The only bad thing I can say is that the author decided to write a few spin-offs from this series instead of writing the 5th book. Keep'em coming please.

I will be the first to admit that lately I've been so dissapointed with most of what I've read from my former favorite authors BUT Jeaniene Frost delivers big time.

I have loved every book in this series so far. I love the story line, it grabs you immediately and keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout while you try to figure out how things will come together.

Characters are all well developed and consistent. You don't get a wishy washy cast of people who are poorly presented. What you read is what you get from the first straight to the third in this series.

Finally, I am a sucker (pun?) for the hero and heroine in a series being in a committed relationship. Without naming other authors, I'm so over the heroine starting out strong and before you know it she's bed hopping and having orgies in the name of some cosmic need. Cat and Bones are tough and committed to each other for good or bad. They take each other, warts and all. I'll be sorely dissapointed if their relationship unravels.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Go back and start this series from the beginning and save each book. Then, wait for the next installment!

The Night Huntress Series seems to be shifting gears but still - a good overall read!

A proposal, a blood diamond and the phone call of the year! I laughed out loud in anticipation of what he would say next!
Tate becomes even more annoying in this installment - if that is even remotely possible!

Then Frost brings in more historical characters - including Vlad Tepes himself as he saves Cat from making the same mistake his first wife made. He becomes a true friend - you will truly enjoy Drac - this is one character I hope to see a spin off for!

This book is different from the other three. I think most everybody who read the first two will need to read this one to get some closure... But dont expect the same feel from this book as the first two. Sure all characters are back but theyre just a little more... rough? Fragile? I'm not sure what the deal is. Some authors explain this and you see events in the series that lead to the slightly different mood of a book. This one didn't really. It was like the author was simply in a darker place when she penned this novel. That wouldn't have been a bad thing is it had been accounted for or more subtle or a different series, but none of that seemed to be the case.

I have just recently found this series and I am hooked!! The characters are so enjoyable, the plot flows seamlessly and the reader becomes a part of the story.....I love the banter between the characters and the way in which the reader feels like they are right there fighting with Bones and Cat! This story will make you laugh, cry and scream at times throughout the book! Add this to your TBR list and you won't be sorry!!

This series is so entertaining and addicting. I cant put this book down. It's the third book in the series and this series just keeps getting better. Yeah its graphic, gory, sexual (very), fowl and twisted. But all that aside, it makes for a very emotional story. This particular installment really develops the characters and their bonds to one another. I have read previous reviews that claim Cat and Bones' relationship runs dry in this book, but I disagree. Their love grows ever more strong and there are parts where the emotions are pretty intense, and not just between Cat and Bones. All the characters are bound together in a tight, family-like alliance. I appreciate the loyalty they share toward one another. I highly recommend this series.

I read a review about this book just a second ago. I completely agree with it. The first two books were funny, witty and I was hooked from page 1. They were page turners. This one sat in my bag for almost a month before I finished it. Let me first just state that I am not normally a romance reader. I am a fantasy reader. This book was recategorized as fantasy. As one of the, maybe three, romance series I read, I was expecting and looking forward to a little more romance.

All in all, it wasn't a bad book, but the first two were much better! I may even just sell this one on the store, and pretend it never happened.

Jeaniene Frost Never disappoints! I just can't say enough about this series. Cat and Bones are just perfect together.
I want to be Cat when I grow up. She's tough, sexy, smart, sassy and she has Bone's.
This book in the series had more emotion in it as far as I was concerned. I actually cried *yes cried* and trust me when I say I am not a crybaby. I actually had to put the book down because I couldn't see the pages. It's a job well done when you can pull that kind of emotion from me. The action in this series keeps me on the edge of my seat and I flew through this book in record time. I will forever be hooked on this series. I hope it never ends!

Catherine "Cat" Crawfield is known as the Red Reaper by the undead world. She is half human and half vampire. By her side is a Master Vampire known as Bones. Just as things are beginning to settle down for the pair of lovers, trouble rears its ugly head. Patra is determined to kill Bones and Cat is even more determined to stop her. But Patra is not just the daughter of Cleopatra, she is even older than Bones and thus, much more powerful.

Tate Bradley is Cat's second-in-command. He has deep feelings for Cat but waited far too long to confess them and lost her to Bones. Per an agreement with Don Williams, Cat's uncle and boss who leads a special department of Homeland Security, Bones turns one human from Cat's elite team into a vampire - Tate.

With the aid of a newly formed alliance (and two vampires who are very famous men in human history) they must stop some dark magic from its lethal source.

***** Jeaniene Frost has become one of my favorite authors to date. Action, danger, and intrigue run rampant throughout the story, from cover to cover. Spicy subplots keep the tensions high as the main plot keep its readers glued. This series is better than chocolate! *****

Summary: 5 stars. Great story, characters, and writing.

At Grave’s End is the third Night Huntress book. All the things that made the previous two books are here in spades. Tons of fast-paced action, a great story and compelling characters, lots of snark, and the writing is just superb.

I love the series! The first two books were better, in my humble opinion, but a must read for fans of the series. These are books I buy for my hard-copy keepers so I can share with friends and family. The characters are fun and the banter between all of them is great. Highly recommended- the four stars is a comparison of other books in the series, it is not a reflection of poor writing on the part of the author, simply a comparison of how I relate it to Cat and Bones books.

Well, lots of ish happens lol.

Ripped off arms, ripped abs, flying vamps and knives, zombies, blood, lots of blood.

Emotional roller coaster. Its like non stop action. So far in the series I like this one best and its like been kicked up a notch.

I am exhausted now.

I need a nice historical romance to follow this one up. :)

Cat and Bones are more than just static characters who fill their gelatin molds and never change. Jeaniene Frost deftly handles two dynamic protagonists with Cat and Bones, as well as several influential secondary characters, in order to produce an extremely rewarding long-term plotline. These are characters that will stand the test of time, and if you want truly well-written personalities and conflicts, then Jeaniene Frost should be your first choice.

The plot is summed up pretty quick: In this book Bones and Cat find themselves right in the middle of some vampire civil-war with a lot of alliances and backstabbing involved. That said, I read books with a lot more challenging plot before. The plot wasn't bad and at least it didn't have any plot holes in it but it also didn't manage to keep me on the edge of my seat - that is until the last 100 pages. I couldn't put the book down for the last third of the book and that was the part that saved the book from only being mediocre.

As for Bones and Cats relationship: It was nice to see them being tight after all that drama of the first two books. There aren't many bourn-the-sheets-up love scenes but you get the feeling that those two are solid in their relationship and not much could come between them. However, I didn't really get the feeling that their relationship was growing during the book but I guess considering how they started it's hard to top that.

Besides that the book is a little same old - same old. A lot of violence and action, smarta$$ comments, and side characters we know from previous books. The people who loved the first two books in this series will like this one as well.

The third book in the Night Huntress series is sad! I cried a lot during the sad parts. This one was much better than the second one but not as good as the first. Bones and Cat have a new threat to worry about with Bones grandsires wife out to kill Cat and Bones. So on they continue to eliminate this new threat with the whole gang. This one has a major sad apart and lots of action. Love this series can't wait for the next one.

Another great installment from Jeanine Frost. Cat has found that someone is after her, and Bones. They go for her mother first and then she comes to the house to find Max, her vampire father at the house holding Justine her mom, hostage.
Her father tries to kill her, but Bones comes along right at the nick of time and saves the day.
Who dispached Max, and why?
They start untangling the lies and deceptions within the vampire community and find it is closer to home than they think.

I actually never finished this... not just because of the amazing differences between the first two books and this one, but because of what the series reminds me of.

Here's my main fault with the series. And if this was on purpose then i apologize and i will finish the series:
While i was in the middle of reading the book a friend of mine mentioned shows she used to watch when she was younger, one of the shows mentioned just happened to be Buffy the vampire slayer. I happened to be reading a part of the book when she spoke. The scene was some type of departing moment between Cat and Bones.

Now me i immediately stopped reading once i noticed the similarities. I got severely annoyed once i realized Bones = Spike. So i couldn't get myself to finish.

I wouldn't say not to read the book... Someone else might be able to tolerate it. I just couldn't.

Well, this is definitely going downhill. It's still funny a lot of times, but other times it's just plain boring. Jeaniene Frost is no Richelle Mead (Georgina Kincaid series, I mean), and the plot has some holes the size of vulcanoes. And, oh, all those sexist little remarks all over the books? Well, I accept them in one book, they annoy me in two books, but I absolutely dislike them in three books. Or more.

I saw a lot of the reviews before buying the book, and noticed a theme with a lot of the readers complaining that there was too much action and not enough sex. Sorry ladies but I have to say that I don't think that is such a bad thing. A lot of authors have to make their main characters into complete sluts because the romance fizzles out for the reader. Monogamy is difficult to maintain in romance series. And frankly, (no offence) do you really need to read how well two people can bump uglies in order to make a story interesting? I think Frost did a great job conveying the attraction between Cat and Bones. Cat is not a slutty character, and the day that Frost makes her into an Anita Blake she will lose me as a fan. (even though I still read the Anita blake series LOL)
With that said I do worry about the future with Cat. I see the signs of Frost making Tate and Cat have a relationship that is more than just friends. It is a well played ploy of authors to keep the sex sizzling by making the main character change partners (ie.... Laurel K Hamilton, Charlaine Harris, Colleen Gleason, and Jacqueline Carey .. just to name a few) Most make the characters friends first, but some just kill them off. The good authors kill the characters off, or they have an understanding from book 1. If you read authors that prefer the former option you will notice those authors have an outstading review base in the beginning but their numbers dwindle as the series goes on and the characters lose their identity (LK Hamilton, Charlaine Harris)
I'd rather see cat single than see her with Tate. He is the Jacob Black of the Twilight series ... annoying cannon fodder IMHO.

but I'm deviating from the point of a review ... sorry

I liked the book. It had a dark side to it, but quite frankly when you get into vampire politics life isn't going to be rainbows and sunshine. I hope that Frost digs more into Vampire society with Cat now that they are officially introduced.
The only down side to this book was the fact that Cat was a little more meek than usual. It wasn't too bad, but it doesn't match the ball busting Red Reaper that (SPOILER) killed 8 vampires in a row in her show of power as Bone's head of line. (End Spoiler) Then there was the mother's change in character. Quite frankly it was hard for me to swallow a likeable version of Cat's mom. That alone made me give this book 4 stars instead of 5. More cannon fodder IMHO.
I liked that Frost didn't make this book all about Cat and Bone's sex life. There is more to them than that and I like to see the high action messy side to their life. I give it two thumbs up :)

Good Job Frost!

BTW..... for those of you who want to read a series where the "chemestry" is always good (ie.. sex sex sex) I suggest you read Dora Joy's High Energy series VERY entertaining and whitty. Probably one of the best smut series I've ever read. Honestly I laughed so hard reading this one that I nearly pee'd in my pants.

This book is amazing! The best in the series so far. *NO SPOILERS HERE*

Cat & Bones finally have their personal conflicts behind them so they can work as a team to focus on any outside forces out to get them.

I think there is a perfect balance of action, drama, romance and mystery. (With some laugh-out-loud moments to top in off!)

While it is true what one reviewer said that there is less sex in this book than the previous 2, I don't think it takes away from the book at all. The passion is still there. The love was apparent. But they went through some serious tradegies that brought them closer together.

I can't imagine Jeaniene can keep getting better with each book, but it seems she does. How much better can she get?

I absolutely LOVE this series....Cat and Bones are an awesome team and so hot and sexy. I'm a huge BDB - JR Ward fan and I'm always having a hard time finding new paranormal romance books. I was a bit uncertain reading about the same characters in a series, rather than learn about new characters like Ward does her books. For Cat and Bones fans, this third installment of the Night Huntress series should not disappoint! As their relationship has evolved from tutor/staker then to lovers/confidants, At Grave's End clearly shows the next step of their relationship isn't the honeymoon! Cat realizes more each day about Bones and his past and it ain't all roses. Now, it's not just about keeping their bond strong but to keep the naysayers at bay and their loved ones close. This book is all about the outside elements and how it's their love beyond all else that keeps them going. As for lack of interaction, well, you'll get that when you're fighting off death! I just finished the book after one whole week. I usually can knock one of her books out in a day, but with this one, every time I put it down, I had no mad rush desire to pick it back up. The whole book felt rushed, especially the end. I just did not feel the main character had control of the story. Too many characters, it was kind of hard to remember who, esp. since it was so long since the last book. I will be buying the next book but fingers are crossed that it is better than this one.

Love the series! Book 3 was just as action-packed and kick a** as books 1 and 2. I agree with another reviewer that there wasn't as much sarcasm (or so it seemed) from Cat as in the other books, but there were some great comments from the other characters that made up for it. I also like the direction the author took in this book - there wasn't any rehashing of the first 2 books, but a storyline all of its own. Sometimes, the third book can be "filler material" for future installments (as I've noticed with other authors), but not here. It was a fast-paced page turner and I can't wait for the next book! This was a really great read - you will not (or should not) be disappointed.

did i like this book? Yes
did i find the book lacking? again yes.

There was just something missing that i cannot put my finger on. I dont know if it was the lack of usual playful bickering, passion and lust that we have become accustomed too between Bones and Cat. Nor do i see if it is the completeness of the love triangle that has so much potential.

There was a bit of the old wit and humour that i admire, but i just couldnt find the emotional connection that i have felt previously. Sure u laughed and cried, but i didnt connect in the inbetween parts that are so important.

The story flowed, and i didnt have any trouble finishing it, but at the end i felt that i hadnt actually achieved anything more by reading this next tale of the life of the red reaper.

I wont let this book affect my love of Frost's story, as no one could stop me from reading the next installment.

All i can say is 'bring on book number 4!'

I've enjoyed the previous two books of this series and was anxious to get my hands on At Grave's End. Frost did not disappoint. This is a worthy addition to the series. I like how the romance with Bones has evolved. So many vampire stories have these supreme alpha males and while Bones is sexy, it's refreshing to see that he can function in a relationship in a satisfying way.

The story has plenty of drama as we focus on Bones and Cat's missions against mltiple enemies. We see the impact of her vampire father, and there are issues with Bones's past that I found interesting and really added to the story. A satisfying read!

I absolutely love this series by Jeaniene Frost. Her scenes are very detailed, it puts you right in the book with them. Cat and Bones, Denise and Spade, Merchares and Kira, Ian even Helsing, along with the other characters keep you interested. I find it very difficult to put these books down.

Not sure why some didn't like this excellent book!
At Graves End starts with a bang, and doesn't stop. I couldn't put it down. As the story continues it's filled with plot twists, excitement, betrayal, romance, and lot's of action. this one fell a little short in the "hot sex" department, but otherwise it was the great read that I've come to expect from Frost. I reccomend it highly =)

I couldn't wait to get my hands on the 3rd book in the Night Huntress series, and I was not disappointed. I loved the first 2 books, great, great, did I say GREAT characters and alot of action to keep you turning the pages. At Grave's End was much the same. It is hard to keep writing about the same 2 main character's romance and keep it fresh, (or it must be because not many authors try it)but Frost does it! Bones is just as sexy (well, almost) as in the first 2 books and just as devoted. You can't help but love him! Makes me want to change my name to "Kitten"

I thought this was the best book in the series. The action was non-stop and Cat,s character seems more serious and caring. The story was more emotional and involved in Cat and Bones relationship. It was hard for me to put it down and I can't wait for the next book.

I liked the book. But it needed just a little more "guts" to it. Grave's End was action filled, gut wrenchingly sad (at times). But the ending seemed a little quick. Just a bit abrubt.
Over all still a GREAT read. Gotta love the inter-action between Bones & Cat.

All I have to say is... this book felt more like a filler...but for those who really like the series it totally is worth reading/listening to this new addition to the series. Bones like always is fun (though less fun in this one I've gotta say)...
But well...that's it I guess..not much..
That's all I have to say.

I read through this book in a day... It is action packed with some really funny dark humor... BONES and CAT are truely meant for each other with their hot and steamy romance... This series has not disappointed me yet! can't wait for the next in the series due out in JULY!!

Frost is amazing and wish she had more books out to read. as soon as i saw this i snatched it up and read it right away. This book made me laugh and cry and shake my boyfriend while reading it. it doesn't have a lot romance but it cant all be about love. Our heroine is called the red reaper after all she has a job to do!

I brought the set of three based on the reviews - NEVER AGAIN. I adore the following authors - Kresley Coles, Karen Chance, Patricia Briggs, JR Ward, Gena Showalter, Charlaine Harris. I thought I'd come across another good book - boy was I wrong. These are awful. Cat is so immature, she's like a badly behaved teenager. These are the type of books I'd imagine a teenager writing, Cat seems to have tantrums, she's very childish, she's like a adolescent who whines none stop. Bones, what on earth is she doing with his accent??? And Tate, yes, we get it, he loves Cat, but please, done it to death now, it's boring. I get the feeling that the author is fairly young and is imagining how someone who is suppose to be in their late twenties would feel, but they're not getting it, and she's still coming across like a spoilt baby teenager. Cat is not likeable at all. Honestly, if you're after a good book read the authors I've listed, they rock!!

At Graves End brings us right in the middle of another mission, Cat Crawfield, also known as the Red Reaper, is involved in. She has a stable and loving relationship with the love of her life, Bones, who is a centuries old vampire. They are now married, at least in the eyes of the vampire culture they both live in. Bones is so dedicated to Cat and fights alongside her against those rogue vampires who don't stay in line. Along with her crew of both undead and human crime fighters, they are a team that is both feared and respected. Cat works for her uncle, who is in charge of a government based group that watches over the supernatural beings.

Not only does Cat and Bones have to keep on their toes against their multiple enemies who want them gone, but Cat also has to deal with a vampire father who wants her dead, along with the issue of Bones's past lovers who pop up out of the blue, which makes Cat jealous. She knows Bones wants to be with her and only her forever, but she still can't figure out why Bones has fallen in love with her, and wants to spend all of eternity with her and no one else. He sees his soul mate, where as Cat constantly wonders why Bones would want to be with her.

When Bones's two-thousand year old grandsire, Mencheres has a vision of a vampire war in the future, he warns both Bones and Cat. But things may be too late, for a very powerful vampire, Pantra, will do whatever she can to kill Bones, in order for her to rule all over all vampires. It is up to both Bones and Cat to stop her. Not only will Cat have to place her trust in those she has many issues with, but another vampire from myth and fiction comes to their aid. Cat knows they may not come out alive, but if she is going down, she will go down taking those evil souls with her.

Some who are fans of this series may be pleased by the outcome. But alas, for this reader, I was severely disappointed. Everything I had enjoyed in the first two books were missing here. The chemistry between Cat and Bones was lacking, as well as their passion and love for one another. One Foot in the Grave had one of the best love scenes I read this year. (Go to chapter 32 and you will see why) There is no such scene or scenes in At Graves End. The unbridled lust and almost reckless love that Bones and Cat have for one another never occurs within these pages. Not that I really minded an outpouring of sex between Cat and Bones, but their relationship was so dull. Their interactions felt hollow, as if they have done everything they could between each other and were confused to where they should go next in their relationship.

I also felt the writing was choppy and it seemed to me that some scenes were missing, as if they were edited out. The fade to black scenario was used here way too often and I wondered why. The story would have been so much more exciting if things between the characters did not just end abruptly. With the first 50 pages or so, there was too much action all at once as well, as the tying up of past storylines. More than a few times I shook my head in disbelief and I came very close to the point of placing this under my DNF pile (do not finish). We have these intense fighting scenes, which I really did enjoy, but in the long run they didn't really add up. It was the case of a great deal of lacking in description, as if Jeaniene is trying to show her reader, look what I can do, and what the future can hold, but with no real substance. There were some points that seemed so silly and I don't think that was intentional, especially when Vlad, also known as Dracula, that man of mystery and myth shows up. When he appeared, I had to hold back a groan.

An author will sometimes have a book that just doesn't work. That doesn't mean they are not a worthy storyteller or that their future books may end up the same way. Jeaniene has proven that she can write incredible characters, witty dialogue and great action. Cat is one awesome heroine, who is so very strong, and one I look up to. I am so happy that Jeaniene created such a woman like Cat. She is everything I wish in all of my heroines. But with At Graves End, I found myself stumped and kept scratching my head because this just did not click for me. Again, not every book can be a winner, and even though my reaction to At Graves End is one of disappointment, I will definitely be on board to read Jeaniene's next book, An Early Grave, that comes out in July 2009. Hopefully, Jeaniene will get her mojo back, and my next review for that future release will be the total opposite of this one.

You know when an author starts throwing in Dracula and zombies that they are scraping the barrel. And so it is here. Frost appears to be going down the path of Anne Rice. The character dynamic between her heroine Cat and Bones left me completely cold. Mencheres just isn't convincing in his all-knowing but can't fix my problems characterization. And Patra is completely underdeveloped. A slew of ancillary characters can't make up for the deficiencies.

OMG you guys what's up with our (once) favorite authors and series? Frost, Cole, Kenyon, Kleypass, Moning, Roberts (and a few others) seem to have taken the easy way out and have gone l-a-z-y with their work. I for one am starting to get tired of paying full price ($8.00 a pop mind you) for books half the size, large font, and with an embarrassing amount of copying and pasting...
I guess the only way we're going to get our great reads back are to quit buying these so-called "next installments" and go to the library or our local discount bookstores. And maybe just maybe these greats will get back to work! Am I bitter? YES! Am I the only person who feels like this? I doubt it! I miss getting lost in a book, but most of all I miss getting what I pay for... So for now I've found some great "new" authors that are still having to work for their paychecks and those are the books I'm going to be paying full price for for now on.
