I love this series! Can't get enough Cat & Bones! I hope she has another book after this one?! Jeanine Frost is a great author & her books are one of the best in Urban Fiction/Paranormal Romance Genre!

I hope the next books are for Ian and maybe Tate, I'm hoping to Jeanine will include Cat and Bones in her other books. Since we have invested interest into these characters I would love to keep up with their future...

I loved this series and will miss having Cat and Bones in my life through reading. Jeanine Frost, please bring them back! I have never read a series that captivated me the way this one did! It made me sad to turn the last page?
Into the Fire: A Night Prince Novel :: Happily Never After (Night Huntress) :: Chained by Night (The Moonbound Clan Vampires Book 2) :: Home for the Holidays: Night Huntress, Book 6.5 :: One Foot in the Grave (Night Huntress, Book 2)

I was left feeling robbed. It felt rushed and thrown together. It just felt lacking. So many different things going on in such a short book. Not her best Cat and Bones story, especially for the final book.

This was a perfect ending to a series that I hope doesn't end. I love the assorted secondary characters too. Maybe there could be a Vlad spinoff? His first two books showed he could carry his own without the Red Reaper...

The Night Huntress series is my favorite series period. I am very sad this is the last book but I am also disappointed in Up From the Grave. Please don't get me wrong the book was good and if it was a book I picked up written by someone else I would be happy. The problem is Jeaniene Frost sucks you into her stories. You laugh cry and get so involved in the tale that you stay up all night reading this did not happen to me in Up From the Grave. Frost had to wrap up the series and she did but it left me disappointed at the end.

Cat and Bones fans will find this story to be an excellent conclusion to an exciting series. Although it was somewhat predictable, I enjoyed the happy ending. I am sorry to see this series end. I will miss Cat and Bone's palpable chemistry and delightful humor.

I don't entirely know how I feel about this book, but it not warm and fuzzy. On one hand is action packed as always, and as always Cat & Bones' most interesting battle is the one they fight against their own natures to stay together, as Cat herself says "Marriage is a marathon not a race" and I love that about these books. Also all the usual suspects are back and it's good to see them, specially Vlad in small measure after the more than disappointing show he made in his own books. I don't even mind that the story is highly predictable from the prologue.
But I have a problem with the plot of the book. This way lay spoilers:
I don't mind as much that Jeaniene Frost decided to give Cat & Bones a child, I don't like it, but that is a personal input that comes from the annoyance at what I consider is unnecessary, not all love stories have to finish in offspring.
No, what bothers me is that it developed so because Katie is Cat's biological daughter. Had they stumbled upon a little girl so much like Cat in so many ways, another half-breed and decided that she deserved more out of life than to be a sacrificial lamb of prejudice between two old races, I would have been 110% behind it. What bothers me no end is that the change form the resignation of the necessity to kill one child against the death of many in war to the absolute resolution to save her no matter what, comes from a fluke of nature (and genetic experimentation, granted). We are all the biological sons and daughters of somebody. I would have liked the strength of their resolution to come from what was right and just, not from insta-maternal-love. Is not like they haven't throw themselves into danger before just because it was the right thing to do, it's the main plot of the first and sixth books.
Cat's new status as a mother is little explored, other than instant protectiveness and absolute love, but Bones' isn't explored at all. He is de facto ok with it, because parenthood is supposed to be everybody's dream? I don't know.
I could have accepted it better if Cat had a second to go "I cannot believe this is happening to me" instead of going into instant maternal love, as if this was an issue for her before. It never came up. Parenthood never comes up in this series. Only Charles worries about it when Crispin tells him Denise lost a child. There is no mention before. This was so out of left field is offensive. I would have loved to see Bones telling her she could do it, telling her his experience raising Rodney. ANYTHING.
But mostly, I would have liked the book to concentrate more in the prejudice between vampire and ghouls. There seemed to be a hope of that when they face the evil master behind the curtain, but alas, it is mildly explored that they are being used as tools of their own destruction by some third party then dropped and never mention again.

What an intriguing end to the series. The book was excellent and left off in a great way, readers can be both satisfied and curious as how another book could go. It does leave you wondering how the lives of Bones, Cat and Katie pays out!

Up From The Grave is the final book in Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series. I've been a big fan of Cat and Bones and was eagerly awaiting this final installment and, wow, what a disappointment. It's totally predictable, flat, with an ending I really hated.
From the earliest pages, it's pretty obvious where the plot is headed so when Frost reveals the "shocking" twist at the 2/3 mark, it isn't shocking at all. Along the way, you'll recognize pretty much every plot device from earlier in the series, some having been used over and over. (When you get to those parts, you'll know exactly what I'm referring to.) So the big scenes meant to make the reader gasp and weep over the horror, don't resonate and aren't in the least bit sad since it's fairly obvious how it will all get fixed.
On the positive side, some of the battle scenes were fun and appropriately gory. Ian is again the star of the show, with some of the best lines. Cat and Bones are totally devoted to one another, and I like that. Bones continues to be scorching hot, but Cat is not her usual sparkly, snarky self. She continues to go off and do whatever the heck she thinks is right. It doesn't seem that she has matured in the least over the course of the series though, instead of her behavior causing a rift between her and Bones, now they talk and quickly move past it.
As for the "shocking" twist, even though I knew it was coming, I absolutely hated it. Frost could possibly have rescued the ridiculous scenario she sets up, but instead glosses over the entire situation with no dialogue whatsoever between Cat and Bones and no meaningful discussion between Cat and the other supporting character who inserts himself into the mix. Then, Frost is rushing us through to the end and one of the worst epilogues ever. ***SPOILERY COMMENT FOLLOWS*** As some other reviewers have pointed out, think "Twilight" but with a supporting character that no one really cares about. Awful.
Overall, this book feels slapped together because Frost had to end the series. It seems she lost interest in writing about Cat and Bones quite awhile ago. Without a doubt, the weakest book of the series and my least favorite.

just what I've come to expect from Ms Frost. I really hate it when an author ends a series filled with characters I love. Getting to see them all one last time was great and using those moments to move the plot along made seeing them believable and not merely a gratuitous curtain call. I can hardly wait to see what Frost offers us next.

It has been a long an awesome journey and I'm depressed it's over! Love Cat and bones and all their friends. This has been one of my favorite series, and I'll be sure to go back and re-read them many times! I wasn't expecting the ending but I think it seems like a situation everyone is happy with! Can't wait for Vlads last book!

I love her books. Jeanine is one of the few authors that write stories that stay with me. I just finished the bits you have on her first books. I read one or two sentences and know exactly what is coming next. And believe me, I have as horrible memory. I love the many characters she throws together time after time. All the different types of supernatural s is fantastic.

I am totally and utterly awed by the fact that she totally threw me off base with the story. I was so caught up with Cat and Bones that I had no idea she went there with the story. This is a great ending to the series and now I want to go buy the books over again so I can read them... AGAIN!!! Amazing!!!

WOW! I'm completely heart broken that it's the last book of Cat and Bones. I loved this book, then again I had no doubt that I would. The tears definitely flowed and full out belly laughs. I'm trying not to be too sad, just going to have to look forward to the new characters, new stories, more books!

This read as though the rough draft & outline was accidentally published in place of the final product, and is the only book Frost has written to date that I didn't care for.
Almost gave it 1 star, but 2 stars because some of the scenes were up to Frost's usual quality.

I have read the entire series. While I am Dissapoiinted to see it end (without giving anything away) thought it ended well. The book as all her others kept me on my seat and still managed to shock me. I so recommend Up From The Grave to everyone. You will not be Dissapoiinted!

I don't know how to describe this book. Having read all of the Night Huntress books and the other characters' books from the series, I can say that this book was not like Frost's normally witty, well-written, original stories. In every series, there is one novel that is your least favorite; this one was mine, but more than that, it wasn't just my least favorite, I actively disliked this book. I skimmed through many parts because it was boring and an uninspired hack of a common recent book and movie plot (think Breaking Dawn, the last Underworld movie, and the CW's the Originals). I thought Frost was better than that. The vampiric happily ever after she was shooting for falls flat for me.

AMAZING. Absolutely amazing. Jeaniene Frost is an amazing writer with such skill that is proved yet again with the latest novel in the night huntress series. You never know where she will take you next and I am sincerely hoping this is not the end of the cat and bones novels!!! A MUST read!

Let's put it this way, had this been book 1 in the Night Huntress series, I would not have gone on to book 2. It lacked the intensity and excitement of the other books. In fact, I literally had to force myself to keep reading thinking ok its going to get better. It has to. Surely, she wouldn't let Bones & Cat just fade off into the sunset. Without giving too much away, that's pretty much exactly how it went down.

I loved this series and it's characters. For months I have waited for this last book but I am so disappointed in it. This book left me dissatisfied and it lacked the passion and plot of previous books. It was very predictable and had an ending to similar to Twilight for me.

I decided to write this review because I don't think I have read a book quite like this one. I found the Night Huntress Series two weeks ago and I couldn't stop reading the books! My heart aches so much that the series is over and I want to cry! This book was so amazing I can barely explain it! Jeaniene Frost you are a true genius and I thank you for writing these books because you gave us the most fun I have ever had reading a book! Absolutely perfect book in my opinion and you should definitely read the series!

If I were to rate this book based on my love for the characters or the fact that this was our good-bye, then I would have given it 5 stars. But that is not what rating a book is about.
I will always hold close to my heart Cat and Bones, the characters that with some help from Sookie and Eric got it all started a few years ago. My reading obsession.
But as much as it hurts me I find myself writing the review of the final Night Huntress novel and rating it 3 stars.
I could barely recognize the characters in this one. It was as if I was reading something else entirely. There are at least some constants. Ian is the same and I can’t wait to read his own book one day, and the sex scenes (there was only one really) are just as steamy.
All this notwithstanding, I was disappointed. Disappointed in the way the author chose to wave good-bye to her characters, in the weak and anticlimactic plot, and the detached air of the entire book. It was like reading a newspaper. I don’t know what happened, but I know when it started. About 40% through the book, when I was supposed to be reading Up From the Grave, I thought I was in front of a TV watching Underworld: Awakening instead. If you have seen the movie that is all you have to know about this last installment. But I’d had no idea at the moment just how much so. It only went spiraling down from there.
I hate it when I’m reading a book and I think “Well, isn’t that convenient!” about some story arc. I caught myself thinking that a lot with this novel. Bones’s new powers and capabilities, Marie Laveau‘s involvement, Don…
*******SPOILERS******
I'm angry that we didn't get a wedding. Instead we got a child. I don’t understand why Cat needed to be a mother when she herself had said that children scared her and that she was alright with not being able to have her own one day. And more than anything I couldn’t grasp her insta-motherhood. One moment she just found about about her eggs being stolen, the next she's in mother-hen mode. The whole plot involving the child (and everything that happened inside that facility) was a no-go for me. And mind you I’m a sucker for those endings. But not for PNR. And most definitely not for Cat and Bones. It was just right for them that way, just Cat and Bones. I would love, say, for Kate and Curran (Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews) to have a child in the end, or see Raphael and Elena’s (Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh) child wrap its father around its little finger, but not here. For some reason, Cat and Bones were designed to function just like a team of two. I thought it was the right thing for them.
It didn't fit in this world, it was forced, and it was rushed. It felt pulled out of the ass. But that is me.
I’m just glad that when the writer feels like they are getting tired of their characters and want to move on to new projects they do just that instead of stretching it out for all eternity. This finale just made me realize that Cat’s story should have ended a couple books back. But I’ll always have the previous books I loved so much, and the novellas. Oh, the novellas. Some of them are better than the main books!
I will miss you like hell Cat, Bones, Ian, Kira, Mencheres, Justina! Good thing I can always go back and enjoy the rest of the books all over again. Thank you for that, Jeaniene Frost.

It has been a long time since Cat and Bones got to shine in a Night Huntress book ... a long time. I had thought that perhaps their story was done. So it was a pleasant surprise to see that Up From the Grave was being published as a grand finale for the series that I have enjoyed so much. How was it? Well ... for the first two-thirds of the book I really enjoyed it. Now that Cat and Bones are a solid couple there is not the focus on steamy romance that was present in many of the previous books in this series. Instead this is a story of two people who have a strong and enduring relationship who work together to solve the problems that threaten them. If you are looking for a lot of swoon worthy moments, you aren't going to find them in this story. But there is a lot of evidence of the deep and lasting love that these two main characters have for each other. There is action ... lots and lots of action. The action drives the plot in many ways, and Jeaniene Frost writes those scenes wonderfully. The first two-thirds of the book focuses on Cat and Bones trying to discover what has happened to the members of Cat's former team who are now missing, presumably being held captive by Madigan, the new head of the team. Things don't look good. Somehow they have to find a way to save these men from experiments taking place ... a horror that Cat and Bones discover as they try to uncover what Madigan is up to.
If the story had simply focused on this giant dilemma I think it would have been great. I would have loved to spend more time with these secondary characters who were so richly developed in previous stories. I would have loved to spend more time working through all the ethical, physical, and mental dilemmas that come about because of what is going on in these secret government facilities. Once they figured out exactly who was running the show I would have liked to spend more time exploring exactly who this guy is and why he is so bent on pushing this mission. I would have liked to spend a lot more time with Cat and Bones and the romance that was so wonderful to read in the first books of this series. Any of those story lines would have made me super happy as I finished this series. But at the two-thirds mark of this story a giant revelation came out and ...
I HATED IT!!!
I absolutely hated it. There are so many reasons that I hated the big reveal of this story that I could fill paragraphs with my complaints. But I won't. I can't. To do so would be to spoil that revelation. I will just say that it was so Twilight-esque that it ruined the ending of this book so much. So. So. Much. I hate that I felt that way. Maybe if you were someone who didn't mind that twist from the Twilight series this wouldn't bother you. But ... oh man! ... it really bothered me.
After the big twist I just couldn't feel all warm and fuzzy about the story. At that point it seemed like every single piece of the plot was simply a way to have a giant reunion show where everyone has everything go absolutely swimmingly. I love happy endings. Really. I LOVE them! I expect them. I rejoice when they happen. But every once in awhile I read a concluding book in a series where I just feel like the author vomits a lot of quick happy moments together just so we can all say that everything ended perfectly. And yet, somehow, through the perfection of the ending it ends up coming across as not perfect at all and inauthentic. That's how I felt with this one, but, like I say, my lack of love for all the happiness at the end may have simply been a result of my distaste for the big plot reveal at the latter end of the story.
So I think I would conclude by saying that this book is candy for huge fans of the series. It allows us one more glimpse at the couple that we fell in love with in the beginning. We get to see favorite characters from past books (even if some of them seemed to be thrown briefly into the plot simply so that we could say "Oh yeah! I remember him!"). There is much to like in this finale. Unfortunately for me there was one GIANT plot issue that kept me from loving this story. But still ... I love Cat and Bones! Three stars!

As a strong practitioner of necrophilia I was excited to read such detailed work. The part where she does a blood transfer to try to help her dead boyfriend receive a boner was both heart warming and sad.
There was so much potential in this book that I feel wasn't delivered :-(
I feel the message here is that its hard to love someone who can't love you back , no matter how much lube.

This book was not in the same league as the others in this series. It was rushed, with no scene descriptions, just jumping from place to place. I guess the author was tired of the characters, and just wanted it done as quick as possible. Reminds me of the last few books of Charlane Harrison (sookie stackhouse).

Ok, I love this series but cannot persuade myself to give this installment more than 3 stars. The plot was entirely too predictable, the romance weak and I do not like to read about abused children in my escalist literature.

This final book in the Night Hantress series lacked passion. It felt as though the author tierd of her charachters and the world that she created. I found the plot unbelivable, predictable, and trite. The only redeeming quality of this book is that we, the fans, got our happy ending.

**Spoilers**
I am so disappointed that Jeaniene Frost decided to end this series with giving Cat a kid. As soon as the little girl in the cage was mentioned, I knew who she would turn out to be. Apparently Frost is one of those people who feel that a woman isn't complete until she has a child, but I'm not. The whole convoluted way that she was created was also ridiculous, stealing ovaries from an unconscious woman & hoping she doesn't notice? I don't even want to go into how stupid that sounds.
I am also appalled at Madigan's story-line. I would have had no problem with them kicking his ass & making him suffer when he was alive, but once they brought him back as a ghoul, then I had a real problem with how he was treated. He was clearly damaged with a childlike view of things & no memory of what he had done. Reading about Bones beating him for an hour horrified me. I don't want to read about brain damaged people being beaten by super strong vampires, it's wrong & if Frost wanted Madigan to pay for what he did, then she should have had them capture him alive. I would have liked to see him pay for his crimes instead of having the unsatisfying end he had.
I'm giving this two stars because it's the end of the series, for the whole stupid "Cat must have a child" plot alone it only deserves one. What a waste to go out this way.

I’m disappointed.
I love this series. Like, top ten must-read series love. And Up from the Grave is the last book. I wanted that 5-star mind-blowing end to the adventures of Cat and Bones. Instead, I had a satisfying but lackluster finale. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed book 7 but it had its issues.
Issue numero uno: the plot. WTF Frost? Talk about predictable. You cut out the best part of this series — the characters — and substitute a remarkably similar story to Breaking Dawn from the Twilight series (EDIT: Perused reviews after posting this. Thank goodness I’m not the only one who noticed the resemblance.) There’s a red-headed super-vamp lab experiment running rampant and *shocker* it’s Cat’s kid. I’d mark it as a spoiler but it’s clear from the start. Katie (the kid) shouldn’t even have existed. That was the whole deal with Cat’s vamp-ness. No kids, and to be honest, it worked with her and Bones. They didn’t need one to make them a complex character duo. Yet like in many of the paranormal romances I’ve read, the series isn’t complete until the heroine has a kid.
Let’s take this trope and destroy. Okay? Okay.
It played right into the HEA (Happily Ever After) syndrome Up from the Grave suffers from. I love happy endings. They’re great. But this book wrapped things up too neatly. Everyone got what they wanted and the bad guys lost. Well isn’t that lovely. Wake me up when something realistic happens.
BUT it wasn’t all bad. The last book of an action-packed series should have action, right? It delivered on that front, over and over. In fact, I think there was more going on in this book than the last two books combined. The characters all came back (even the one-line mentions from early books) to close out the series, and some of the much-loved Cat/Bones dynamic lingered, though it could’ve done with a power-up.
I’ll always love Bones.
No matter the problems I had with this book, I will always remain a huge fan of the Night Huntress series and I sense future re-reads, especially with the spin-off Vlad series. I’m also grateful Frost ended it when she did as too many series continue and burn out after so many books (looking at you, Stephanie Plum).

I went with the audiobook route for this. And, I'm glad I did. The narrator was pretty good and maintained the accents of the characters. I somewhat enjoyed the finale of this series. I, for one, am glad this series is finally finished. Over time, it had started to get repetitive and kind of slowish. However, I love Kat and Bones. And this book delivered what I was hoping as a series to end with a HEA. Although, I could have done without the big reveal.
This book was enjoyable overall. With typical Kat and Bones action, dealing with the much serious threat to them as a species & war. There were lot of old vampire friends mixed in one way or another into the story. I was happy to see Denise (Cat's bff ) playing a bigger role in this one. Bones has definitely become one strong master vampire. His powers have grown a lot. And I expected nothing less :D
Katie, a new addition and I won't say what or who cuz of spoilers. I am curious to see where it leads. She is definitely something special. Although, I felt it wasn't necessary for her to end the series. But, it seems like a new story arc at some point if the author wanted to pursue the series further in the same world.
I definitely recommend this one to finish off the series. There's a small epilogue at the end as well. I'd say I was satisfied how the series ended :)

This. Book. Was. Amazing.
This is one of the best book series that I've read in its entirety. I'm not one to finish a series. By book 4, I get disinterested, or I feel the author loses important bits of the heroine I've learned to love in book one and make her a cry baby who doesn't have a backbone. Others, simply make the series TOO long (Book 13 is pushing it for me), and the author loses me there since there isn't a story to tell anymore. Mrs. Frost knew exactly what she was doing with this book. It was engaging since the first paragraph (And no, it's not because I'm fangirling...excuse you).
I love, love, love Bones. He was one of my first book boyfriends and I fell HARD. Though I don't always agree with his methods, he does have a way of coming through when Cat or anyone in his family/coven/clan/whatever-you-want-to-call-it is in need of assistance.
Cat is one of the best heroine's I've read and have the displeasure to say goodbye to. She has had a back bone and a stubborn streak since I could even recognize what it was that made me like her so much since book 1. Sure she also uses unorthodox methods to get what she wants, but who cares? It's just too entertaining.
Mrs. Frost made me cry TWO times in this novel. There were plot twists coming left and right in this and I was loving EVERY BIT of it. That almost-this-could-turn-into-a-future-spin-off ending was just CRUEL. Sure there was the implied happily-ever-after, but I want to know in detail what will happen to EVERYONE (you'll get my drift if you've read this book). They will never be safe forever, but I still want a little bit more. I'd be content with another 7 Book long series. What do you say Mrs. Frost? Pretty please?
Overall, this series as a WHOLE is fantastic. I recommend it and it's spin-offs for vampire junkies like myself. Deeply saddens my to say goodbye to this series.
Favorite Quotes:
"That's how two vampires, a medium, and a dog came to sit around a Ouija board in the back room of a floral shop."
"The most dangerous enemy you've faced is yourself, Kitten. I know that even if you still won't admit it."
"Obviously, no one had told him that Egyptians from his era were supposed to be partial to cats."
Bonus: "Get off, luv, I'm high as a bloody kite. No telling what I'll do."

Usually, you have one book in every series that you don't like as much as the others... however, that book shouldn't be the last one. Even so, this is definitely my least favorite book in the whole Night Huntress world (including spin offs and anthologies).
The last book, the closing book, should be MANY things, but disappointing shouldn't be one of them.
I read the Prologue and I just knew what she would be doing, but I sighed and kept going. First fifty pages were meh, but it started looking up and I got excited. Then what I anticipated happened and I just hated it from them on.
So many unncessary characters were brought back. For example: Tyler. They spent the whole book six trying to trap a ghost against his will, but they still thought Tyler could do the same thing? Right. The time that was spent here would have been better used with so many scenes that were left untold. A Bones and Cat discussion of the big plot, for example? Extremely disappointed it didn't happen.
The relationship between Bones and Cat is good. I enjoyed Bones as always though Cat was a bit less... interesting than usual. Ian was shining bright in this book. Justina simply wasn't anywhere around.
ABOUT THAT HORRIBLE PLOT TWIST I HATED? Are we never going to get rid of Tate in the middle? Really? I admit I liked him at the beginning but when he became so in your face about feelings that Cat didn't have for him and he knew it, I was just like shut up and go away. So, really, Mrs. Frost, if you had to do that horrible twist, I still don't get why adding Tate was necessary. It just made me feel bad for Bones.
And how many times can we use the same things? I wasn't much worried any time because the way things were saved was the same one of previous books. (Bones' withering power, coughs, Denise's shapeshifting, coughs)...
Also, about that twist...
It didn't fit this series. For some others, the domesticity HEA would have worked but for the Night Huntress series? I felt cheated.
I just finished re-reading the whole series. From Reckoning to Up from the Grave. I read all the spin-offs and short stories in between. Everything.
And if I ever do it again... I won't be reading this book.
I'll imagine book six was it :)

I very rarely write reviews for books (or movies for that matter) other than pertaining to the physical item you are getting as usually you can get a synopsis for something on the item page. But I feel compelled to write this review simply because of how I was affected by this...which was severe disappointment, to say the least.
The Night Huntress series has always been one of my favorite books to read, and that's saying something since I read a lot, on many different subjects. I feel such a strong connection to the characters that I have a habit of always recommending these books to others even if they may not really read this type of genre. Going into this book knowing that it was the last one in the series actually made me really sad. I was almost reluctant to read it because of it. But halfway through the book I found myself absolutely glad this would be the last book and had a hard time even finishing it, I was so annoyed. There were times I literally yelled out loud from annoyance and frustration, hah. I will keep all of the Night Huntress books and will continue to re-read them as I have before, but for me, the series will always end with "One Grave At A Time" and will not ever be re-reading this one.
**SPOILER ALERT***
It started off great....but half way through when the child came around, the characters became completely lost. Even though my true favorite characters have always been Spade (and Denise)...and Vlad actually, I always admired Cat as being a very strong female; one that most people could look up to, despite her being a killing machine. I found I always related to her quite a bit. But as soon as the child stepped into the picture (especially once her relation to Cat was divulged), she became completely unrecognizable. Despite her never-ending pure and intense love for Bones, in a span of a mere heartbeat, he took a back seat for someone she had just only glimpsed (since she never actually even officially met Katie until the very end) and never even knew existed before. Her iconic wit and intellect to the very obvious was lost in this all of a sudden maternal tornado that ended up verging on ridiculous. Without a second thought, she would put everyone else's life that she cared about on the line for something she just met. The old, true Cat would have never been this reckless with the people she held dear. She became someone I admired to someone I loathed and was actually ashamed of. She became this maternal love-struck idiot that couldn't decipher the most obvious things that I, as the reader (and I'm sure others), saw a mile away. Not even her love for Bones ever made her this blind. Sadly, this was no longer Cat, but a ghost of who she was.
I come to the paranormal romance section because of the intriguing supernatural lust, love, and action packed stories that come with this genre....there is absolutely no place for a child in these worlds. Not just for their sake, but for the readers who come here to be taken away from the realities and jobs of the world. Despite that annoyance, I could have maybe gotten over that if the whole maternal thing hadn't been so shoved in my face the way it was. It insinuates that you simply cannot know what true love and sacrifice is unless you have a child in your life and that you will automatically fight to the death and recklessly risk everyone else's life that you always cared about greatly for their sake. It also makes it seem as though once you have a child, you not only lose your mind, but you become this nonsensical idiot that can't figure out the most obvious of things. Ugh, the more I think about it all, the more upset I get and this doesn't normally happen to me with books...after all, they are just made-up stories, right? But that's how much I loved these books. I feel as though Bones and Cat pretty much died, which honestly would have befitted them much better.
It's just such a monumental disappointment all around, and the generous 2 stars I'm giving is simply for the long time love of the characters. Again, I would say I hate to see this series end, but with this abomination of characters, I'm very glad the series is now ended. I always knew the author was religious, but to turn this series beloved by many (and that also made this author as recognizable as she is now) into this attempted hidden pro-life advocacy was just really low. Such a waste.

I am very conflicted about this book. The writing is Frost's usual stellar quality and the story progression from what has happened before now is understandable and makes sense. In many ways I suppose it could be argued that we should have seen this coming. Still, I can't say I particularly like where she went with the story or how she wrapped up the long, tumultuous saga of Cat and Bones' love story. Despite the fact that much of this had been building for longer than anyone realized, I still think there are other paths that could have been taken with it so that things didn't have to end they way they do here.
Cat was often rather annoying in this one because she is so overly emotional so much of the time and she lets it cloud her thinking and her judgement. While it's true enough that she's always been rather emotional and sentimental, and often is guilty of thinking with her heart instead of her head, she takes it to extremes a couple times in this one. Several times I just wanted to slap her and tell her to quit her blubbering and think for a moment because it was so obvious what was going on but she was totally missing it because she was too busy having a pity-party melt down. After reading the first two Night Prince books, I'm more impressed with Leila than I am with Cat at this point, because even though she's younger and has far less experience with fighting and navigating vampire intrigues she still manages to keep it together and stay focused and on task than Cat does in this book.
Bones proves on a few occasions here just how ruthless and pitiless he can be when it comes to keeping Cat safe. This doesn't really come as much surprise, because we've known for a long time that he's capable of just about anything and that vicious doesn't even begin to describe him when Cat is being threatened. Still, we've never seen him act in ways that are as cold and cruel toward Cat as he does a time or two in this book. Not to say she didn't have it coming since she acts like a total nitwit so many times here, but the lengths he goes to and the things he puts her through are a bit shocking nonetheless. I'm not criticizing this however -- frankly it made me respect him a bit more actually because he proves that he's willing to make some hard choices when he has to and isn't above causing those he cares about pain in the short term if it keeps them safe. If only Cat could have kept such a level and calculating head on her shoulders things might have turned out quite differently.
As I noted above, I'm not crazy about how Cat's long story arc comes to fruition here. Perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised by some of it, since the signs were there all along, but it still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Perhaps because I'm just generally not a fan of the sorts of tropes that are brought fully into the light here with the lengths the secret government programs that Cat's been involved with all along went to. Add to that the fact that Cat frequently acts in ways that seem rather out of character for her and storywise the whole thing was rather disappointing to me. There had to have been other directions Frost could have taken this that wouldn't have brought this whole saga to such an unsatisfying and rather anti-climactic end.
For all my criticism of it, I still couldn't help finding this book rather compelling and hard to put down (or turn off in my case since I listened to the audiobook -- Tavia Gilbert does such a fantastic job of narrating these books). Even when I was rolling my eyes or groaning at what was happening or how Cat was acting, I still couldn't wait to find out what happened next. Maybe because I kept hoping against hope that the whole thing wasn't going to end up going to hell in a handbasket like it seemed to be most of the time. Because of this, and because it is the final book in a fantastic series I'll still give it my recommendation, at least for those who have read all of the previous books. You'll want to see how it all ends I'm sure, just be prepared for a bit (or a lot) of disappointment about how it does. Though it pains me a bit, I can only give this one 3½ stars, though I am rounding it up where needed based on the quality of the writing and Frost's ability to keep surprising you in big or little ways. I wish this had ended differently, but ah well. We still have more to look forward to in this universe at least.

Up From the Grave concludes the amazing Night Huntress series. This story shows Cat RUSSELL (yes, the shouty caps are intentional) :) in a light that the readers have never seen her before. There were such amazing emotional highs and lows in this book that I just didn't know if I was going or coming--each one more intense than the last. Frost has always had the ability to deliver a potent, intriguing, and sexy story. And she did not disappoint with Up From the Grave. I will say now...there are no chapter 32 moments in this story. In fact, the smexy times between Cat and Bones are almost muted in this story. However, where there was not the blazing, sheet scorching passion between them, there was a depth to their love and loyalty one another that I haven't seen in any of the other books. There were surprise revelations from beginning to the very end, even down to how Don became a ghost.
We are able to see and say goodbye to all of the characters we have come to know and love over the years. And, can I say...DENISE IS THE BEST FRIEND EVA! Her dedication to Cat was just amazing, and unexpected and it took my breath away. Finding out about Katie was also an expected twist. I was listened to the audiobook at work and at that reveal started yelling, "No...no...no...no...no!" in my office. I'm sure the people in the surrounding office thought I was going crazy but they just don't understand the power of this series! *wink*
As I drew nearer to the end of the story, I was got a little tearing that an emotion goodbye to the series was eminent. Frost promised a happily ever after, and honestly, I just didn't see it. Especially after the Law guardian...well...you just have to read that part for yourself. Let's just say that I was sobbing feeling the depth of Cat's emotions at that moment. And, Bones *sigh*...Bones proved in this story why he is now and will forever be one of my most favorite book boyfriends. He demanded Cat's trust in this story and totally earned it. In spite of the horrible odds, he totally showed Cat that she could bank her trust in him.
Although Up From the Grave is the end for Cat and Bones, I am cautiously hopeful that Frost has some generous kernels to create a spinoff series of some kind. Seriously, Katie's life is enough to spark stories for years to come. But seriously...we never got to see Ian have a happily ever after. We need to see a woman tame Ian. We need it. :)
Those of you who love the Night Huntress series will appreciate the depth and potency of this high octane read. Frost definitely outdid herself on this one.

~ 4.5 Up From the Grave Stars ~
I have to say first and for most that this was a phenomenal ending to a much loved and wonderfully enjoyed series. I am down right in awe by this last and final book for Bones and Cat, though I do hope they might make appearance now and then in the world.
Mind-blowing! Jaw-dropping! Outstanding!
Ms. Frost takes the reader on one last journey with her fans, reminding us why we fell in love with the series.
The author had me running the gauntlet on emotions as well as making me giddy with joy seeing all the previous characters make appearances. As always Ian flaunts his sexuality and the ladies love him. I do hope we get his story one day. I’d love to see him fall hard ^_^. Then Spade and Denise show up to help. I love these two, always have. And, I can’t forget Vlad, Mencheres, and many others. It made this final book that much more satisfying.
Bones and Cat are extraordinary characters. As always these two have great chemistry and their sexy times are yummy.
With the plot well what can I say except, SURPRISE. Seriously I did not see those twist and surprise bombshells that the author gave us. OMG I loved it. I’m blown away and I never expect the direction of the plot to go that way. WOW!
What a way to say goodbye to a fun couple that have taken me on a captivating journey. I will miss them, but have to say it ending spectacularly. Loyal fans will not want to miss this fast paced, action packed, romance between two phenomenal characters. If you have not yet picked up this series, it’s one you should try out.

Well. I’m distraught. I cannot believe this series is over. I have listened to every book in this series back to back and now that it’s over I’m going to be stuck with the worst book hangover. Cat and Bones wormed their way under my skin and into my heart and they are not going anywhere anytime soon. I just love them so so much.
Cat continued to be the amazing heroine that she is in this one. She continues to fight and fight and she never gives up. I love her determination so damn much. Definitely one of my all-time favorite heroines.
Bones is my book hubby and has solidified himself as an all-time favorite. I just fell so hard for him and as the books continued he just made me fall more and more. He is just so incredible and I will never have enough words to explain how much I love him.
The relationship between Bones and Cat is an all-time favorite of mine. I love how strong their relationship is and that over the course of the books it just got stronger. I love that we really got to see them work together as a couple as the books progressed and weren’t subjected to constant relationship angst and drama just for the sake of drama. These two deserved to find some peace together.
One secondary character I really came to love in this one is Ian. He is so annoying and such a pain but I find him amusing and he makes me laugh. The rest of the gang makes appearances too and it was nice to see everyone once again. Thankfully I still have the spin offs to read, because I’m going to go into withdrawal now.
All in all, Up From The Grave was a great conclusion to one of my all-time favorite series. Cat and Bones have sealed themselves inside my heart and I’ll never be the same after reading these books.

Finally! I feel like I waited forever for this book to come out and then forever again before I finally got a copy. In that time, I built up a lot of anticipation for what it would contain. It's no secret that this is the end of the series, so I was very interested to see how Frost was going to bring it all to a close.
Cat and Bones go to some really dark places in this one, I think, in some ways even darker than before. When they discover that Cat's old team is missing, they try a rescue attempt. Eventually they learn that genetic experimentation with Cat's DNA has had some very interesting results. Of course, those results could mean an all-out war between ghouls and vampires (a recurring theme!), and they go to some pretty extreme, disturbing, and down right gross measures to prevent it. All of the characters from previous novels, both in this series and in the stand-alones, make appearances, although I'm sad to say Vlad only appears because Cat and Bones attend his wedding in the midst of all the chaos (which I found a bit odd, to say the least). Can Cat and Bones keep war at bay while protecting that which becomes most precious to them?
I have to say that overall I was left unsatisfied by this book. Some parts, like Vlad's wedding, just seem thrown in there because Frost felt obligated to give us one last goodbye to every character. I realized what the "results" of the genetic experimentation would turn out to be when the whole idea of the experimentation was introduced, so that wasn't even a surprise. Everyone seems to get a nice, tidy ending except Ian, who still hasn't gotten his forever after like the rest of the characters, so that story seems unfinished. There seem to be a lot of loose ends, actually, that are left dangling. If a series is going to end, then things need to be resolved, and I just felt that there were too many things left unresolved. Of course, this does leave the door open should she decide to revisit things.

Since this is the 7th and last book in the series I'm not going to say much because you either love the series by now or you don't.
FYI though I would recommend reading the novella Home for the Holidays before reading this. There is a plot point revealed in that book that is only mentioned briefly in this one.
Leaving a series you love behind is always hard. I have totally enjoyed the entire ride and while I definitely enjoyed some of the books more than the others the journey I’ve taken with Cat and Bones is one of my favorites. The great thing about the ending of this series is that we get to see almost every character that we have become attached to, they all play a part. Some characters get a little more page time than others but we do get a glimpse of all of them at some point. The whole series wraps up nicely and even though we might see Cat and Bones a little in the future if Ian gets his own book or in Vlad’s final book I felt satisfied with how this series ended and will not be disappointed if they don’t pop up again.
Cat and Bones have come full circle. They will fight for each other over every obstacle that is introduced to them. Cat’s old team has gone missing and Don is hiding a terrible secret that he refuses to give up. If Cat is going to save her old team she will have to go to new lengths to find answers. Some of those answers were extremely unexpected.
This is an action packed installment with plenty of fighting the bad guys. Cat and Bones are in epic form and prove how much one will go through for the love of their life. There were moments I teared up and moments I smiled. Ian was in rare form this book and I wonder if there will ever be a book and a love interest to tame his wild adventurous spirit. Denise is our go to girl for many of the most trying fights, I guess it is good to have a demon infused human on your side. There is even a respite to Vlad’s wedding for any of you who missed that in his book.
The story is faced paced and even though I didn’t see where it was going to end up, I really should have. It was a great ending to a wonderful series that I’m sure I’ll read through again someday.

Up From The Grave (Night Huntress #7) by Jeaniene Frost is another fantastic story in the Night Huntress series. Cat and Bones have to save their friends from horrifying experiments and if they can't stop it, it could cause war between all undead. As with all her books, it is all out action, surprises, twists, turns, and shocking revelations when you least expect it! I can't say more just that if you are a fan, you don't want to miss this book. This book can also be read as a stand alone, she is good at filling you in and giving a good background for the person who has not read any of the previous books, so jump right in and enjoy. You will then want to go back and read from the start I am sure! What I do like about her books is that she has LOVING SCENES and not pure sex scenes. I hate it when I am reading and there are ten pages of sex and no action in the book. Frost shows the love between Cat and Bones much differently and I enjoy that and it is sexy yet cultured. Thank you. Enjoyed this book and look forward to the next, as usual! Got my book from the library.

Jeaniene Frost did an AMAZING job ending her NIGHT HUNTRESS series in her newest release UP FROM THE GRAVE! In typical Cat and Bones fashion you laugh, cry and are on the edge of your seat till the end…the end of a series I didn’t want to see coming….. an end of a couple I feel in love with from the moment you first meet them.
Cat with her unyielding loyalty, smart mouth, is as kick a$$ as ever and Bones, well he is and will always be to me the ever magnetic sexy vampire that just pulses off the pages. I can just hear that sexy as sin accent in my ear. These two are so perfect for each other even in all the chaos.
I would love to give away so much but this is the one book you don’t want spoilers to, if you have read this series, as much as it pangs me to say good bye to it, this is the one you don’t want to know what happens. There is so much that goes on throughout it, so much is revealed that you want to read it all!! Jeaniene Frost couldn’t have written Cat and Bones any better in my honest opinion.
Although I am sad to see them go as a reader, we come to love these characters and don’t want to let go so I can only imagine how hard it is for an author to say goodbye to them as well. Trust me it was freaking hard to turn that last page! Ms. Frost didn’t rush this story she didn’t drag it out it was wrapped up nicely yet with extra’s that you never saw coming, only making the ending that more deliciously bittersweet. However, as I wipe the tears from my cheek…well done Ms. Frost, WELL DONE!!

I thought this was a good book - until the ending. The issue of the evil Madigan of the super secret vampire genetic experimentation program is resolved, and it's done in an interesting way I wasn't expecting. Ian got to be his usual bad-asp self. We find out why Don got tied to the world as a ghost. Majestic, the Queen of the Ghouls, has a large role, and she is always entertaining to read about. Denise also has a large part and earns the best BFF ever award. Pretty much all the supporting characters make an appearance in this last book.
I had read the spoilers before, so I knew what was going to happen, as far as Katie is concerned. What was disappointing to me is that Cat, Bones, her mom, Tate, and Katie, are just going to float off on a boat and live out at sea for Katie's whole life so no one can find her? WTH. It was so, meh.
One thing that remained frustrating is that Cat is still so dumb. She wouldn't last a year as a vampire without Bones. Also, they both still keep things from each other. Cat goes off on her own (again) and Bones saves her (again) and then Bones keeps something huge from Cat, but at least his reasoning makes sense because dumb Cat would have ruined everything if she'd known what he was up to. (Bones is still always awesome, though.)
I would have rated it four stars, but that ending. Bleh. The rest of the book was great, though. Better than the last few have been. I hope Ian gets his own book, but if Jeaniene Frost is going to change the character, like she did in the Vlad books, I'd rather not get one, and just use my imagination.
Great series that began to peter-out out as it went along. It was definitely time to end it. Still so glad I got to know Bones, Ian, Mencheres, Vlad, Spade, and... basically all the hot male vampires.

Let me start by stating that, without a doubt, the Night Huntress series is one of my all time favorite! I have re-read each book at least four times, the first two at least a dozen times. I love how Cat and Bones have evolved throughout the series, how their relationship grew and strengthened in a believable manner (you know, if you exclude all the demons, flying, glowing eyes, etc...). Which is why this addition, the finale nonetheless, has left me baffled and a little unfulfilled.
The MAJOR plot twist makes absolutely no sense! First of all, to introduce such a major addition at the end of the story is insane, I didn't even realize this was the last book in the series until I read the reviews. Secondly, again, it makes absolutely no sense. This addition came from out of nowhere and seems more than a little contrived. Perhaps it's Frost's way of setting up another series in a couple of years, if this is the case then she did her fans a huge disservice.
Having said all of this, Night Huntress remains one of my favorite series! Having to come up with a satisfactory conclusion to a very popular and beloved series is near impossible, so I am not too disappointed. Do I wish there had been a better ending? Yes. Do I still love Cat, Bones, and all things Frost? YES!

I don’t know why I waited so long to read this. I read so many reviews when it was released that had me hesitant because it was the final installment and for some, it hadn’t lived up to their expectations. Honestly, I have no idea what had everyone upset. I LOVED Up from the Grave. Am I sad to see the Cat and Bones series end? Absolutely but Jeaniene did such a good job bringing their story to a close.
Up from the Grave was action packed. Let me say though that Bones really put Cat through the emotional ringer. She’s been put through more in this book than she has been in the rest of the series combined but it was such a great ride. There was action and mystery and honestly so many things popped up that I had not expected at all. Up from the Grave was wildly unpredictable. Jeaniene did a great job at delivering a fantastic finale to what has been a thrilling series.
One one complaint **TINY SPOILERY** is that there is a part in the book when they’re trying to jog someones memory and decide that seeing a familiar face will help. Bones and Cat travel to go get this certain someone, then when they need another someone, Denise just shapeshifts into that persons form. Its super minor but it made me wonder why they didn’t just do that in the first place with the first person.
Regardless, this book was EPIC and it is absolutely a five star read. Paranormal Romance at its finest.

Too much of the book repeated character choices seen in past books. I guess the lessons were not learned the first time around. And the big plot twist? It was predictable from the prologue. The ending felt rushed, forced, and saccharine sweet. I'm disappointed in this last volume. Cat and Bones grew over the course of the series and regressed back to start for this one. I expected better from Frost for this last volume. But my the disappointment with the Vlad series, I guess my expectations should have been lower.

It is finally here, the last book of the NIGHT HUNTRESS series. This book, UP FROM THE GRAVE, is one I was both looking forward to and dreading at the same time. If you have yet to read this series, now is the perfect time to do so. You can start with book 1 and binge read through the rest. You no longer have the deal with the agonizing wait the rest of us had to deal with as we waited for the next book to be released.
If you’re new to the series, you might be wondering what makes the NIGHT HUNTRESS series so incredibly fabulous? Well, that’s not the easiest thing to pin down. First, there is Cat. She is the fierce, smart, and imperfectly lovable heroine. The balance to Cat’s sometimes irresponsible risk taking is her even more fierce and extremely sexy husband, Bones. You are going to love them together! They fight their enemies, they love each other, they laugh with their friends, and above everything else, they live their lives with an exuberance you can’t help but enjoy. This series is the perfect gateway drug into the paranormal and urban fantasy world. It’s a little bit of each without being too “out there” for those new to the genre.
So, getting back to UP FROM THE GRAVE. Once again, I’m left wondering how to review a book without saying anything specific about the plot. The blurb is carefully worded to give you an idea of what to expect without giving away the big, giant spoiler which is the focus of this entire book as well as the reason for Cat and Bones sailing off into the sunset at the end. Read the blurb and try to read between the lines. I’m going to leave it at that because I certainly don’t want to give it away.
As much as I loved this book, I have to admit that I was a little bored in the beginning. Cat and Bones were up to their usual sexiness and ass-kicking, but I wasn’t as invested, a.k.a. obsessed, as usual. I can’t give you a specific reason, I just know I wasn’t 100% feeling it. And then it happened... This is a spoiler free review so I’ll just say that there is a game-changing and life-altering revelation a little more than halfway through. That changed everything for me! I was completely taken in after that. I was feeling Cat’s terror and anger, I was feeling her desperation, and I was feeling the overwhelming love between Cat and Bones. It was an absolutely perfect ending to a fabulous series. I highly recommend it!

This is a book chock full of two things: action and emotion. Up From the Grave is the seventh and final entry in the Cat and Bones Night Huntress series, and Jeaniene Frost pulls out all the stops and delivers. You won't be bored and you won't be disappointed.
The story involves the disappearance of Cat's former team members, Tate, Juan, Dave and Cooper. Cat and Bones start investigating, leading them to bad guy Madigan's involvement and a new villain. They ultimately find out more than they could have imagined, leading to other revelations. I don't want to reveal too many spoilers, so won't go into that.
Many characters from prior books make an appearance. Mencheres and Kira, Vlad and Leila (briefly), Spade and Denise (Denise is really the hero in this book and plays a major part), Ian, Don, Marie Laveau and her remnants, Tyler, Fabian the ghost, and even Timmy. The story is very edge of your seat with a few OMG moments to torture Cat, and leave you wondering what's going to happen next. The ending is satisfying, but sad because you know this is the end of the series, and, yes, it is somewhat Twilighty, as others have mentioned. I was hoping Cat and Bones would get their big wedding, but that didn't happen. Jeaniene gives a little hint in the Epilogue that maybe we'll see Cat and Bones again (probably as characters in another book), and her website teases about a possible Ian storyline, which would be very welcome. I am sad to see the series end, but I also think it was probably time (we don't want another Anita Blake. Shudder). Yes, Cat and Bones' relationship has matured and endured, and they are no longer in the first bloom of young passion. But that's how life is and characters need to develop and mature or they become static.
Although I'm not a fan of Jeaniene Frost's Night Prince books, I am looking forward to reading her new Beautiful Ashes series.
I do want to add if you haven't listened to the Night Huntress audio books, I urge you to go back to the beginning and get them. I've just finished re-listening to the first four books, which, in my opinion, are the best in the series. The narrator, Tavia Gilbert, is truly talented. She has to do a myriad of male and female voices and accents, and each one is distinctive -- you always know whose talking. Just off the top of my head, she successfully does English accents (both upper crust and cockney--Spade, Ian, Annette and Bones), Minnesota (Justine), elderly (Cat's grandparents) , Latino and Latina (Juan and another female character from the first book whose name escapes me), Romanian (Vlad), French (two different types, normal and snooty (Gregor and Canelle are unbelievably snooty), Irish, Creole (Marie), Southern (Denise) and a bunch of other characters that you recognize immediately (such as Mencheres, Tate, and Fabian). I definitely recommend the audio books.

I am so sad to see this series come to a close, but this was a wonderful way to do it. Yes, there is a lot of Cat and Bones mayhem, misunderstandings, murder, and sizzling sexy times. It’s everything you want in a Night Huntress novel, except that it’s the last one.
This story picks up with Cat and Bones giving a shot at being “normal.” It continues the theme from the previous short story, which really should have warned Cat it wouldn’t last long. Her ghost uncle (Don) shows up with concerning news about her old team. Cat and Bones jump right into the thick of things by going after the evil new boss demanding answers. Ian (once again) becomes one of my favorites by helping Cat and Bones in ways that only Ian can – by being lecherous and slutty. It’s always nice to watch these characters interact.
The gang’s detective work ends up discovering a genetic engineering operation, backed by Don’s evil replacement and supplied test subjects by Cat’s old teammates. The rest of the book goes exactly how you’d expect – lots of action, lots of sexy times, and a good dose of surprises. Just when you think you know the group dynamic, we get thrown for another loop. While I’m sad to see the end of this wonderful series, I really enjoyed the way the author wrapped things up. This book reads like the rest of the series because it is just another chapter in their lives. Sure, this one ends with them going away, but I wasn’t nearly as sad as I thought I’d be. I’m happy that we still have Vlad and his friends floating around so I can enjoy this author still, but it makes me even happier that we didn’t get some horrible bloodbath or something equally distressing. Thanks for a really great read!

UP FROM THE GRAVE concludes the Night Huntress series and its a bittersweet feeling saying goodbye to Cat and Bones sharing their ups and downs and watching them evolve from book to book. This last book brings out everything fans have come to expect from this series from fist pumping action, clever quips and cameos from just about every character we’ve come to know and love. There are some exciting twists and revelations concerning people in Cat’s life that have been stewing for a long time. Some of the most shocking revelations involve Madigan; a character introduced in earlier books who seemed to be pretty random and on hold until UP FROM THE GRAVE. I liked how everyone (bad guys and good) had a chance to shine with their own abilities and unique personalities to help defeat the big bad.My personal favorite cameo is the short visit to see Vlad which cleverly links to the Cat and Bones cameo in TWICE TEMPTED.
Cat and Bones’ relationship has evolved so much through this series and it was nice to see this mature, comfortable couple in UP FROM THE GRAVE and reflect upon just how far they came from their first meeting in HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE. There isn’t too much in the way of sex scenes in comparison to the previous books in this series but that’s not really a problem as their dedication for each other truly shines in the more dire situations that happen in UP FROM THE GRAVE. Cat has grown so much herself over the series too and it was really fun to see her grow into a more confident woman with a larger group of friends and family than she had at the start of this series.
UP FROM THE GRAVE brings us to the end of the Night Huntress series with a balance of action, romance and sarcastic humor. While I wish there were just one more book to read in this series I’m glad it ended on a high note and am looking forward to what come next from Jeaniene Frost.

Sharp, fast-paced and thrilling, Up From the Grave is a fantastic paranormal adventure that kept me entertained and guessing from start to finish. Having only read Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress #1), I was pleased to discover just how easy it was to re-immerse myself in this well-established series at book #7. In no time at all, I was gripped and deeply invested in Cat and Bones' new reality.
Just as we settle in for a tasty bit of domestic bliss, crisis erupts, propelling Cat and Bones on a dangerous global pursuit that goes far beyond the usual "hunt, kill, re-group, repeat" scenario. Instead, this ambitious operation invigorates the old crew into tactical strike mode as they forge ahead on a dramatic and harrowing nail-biter of a mission.
Exciting plot aside, the thread that truly kept me page turning was the deep and passionate love eternally smouldering between Cat and Bones. Still madly in lust and love, their raw, open desire permeates each conversation- influencing every choice made and action taken as a couple. They are a captivating and dynamic pair in motion- scheming, sparing and kicking evil ass- but nothing compares to these lovers alone... Cat and Bones' intense bond, insatiable hunger and cosmic sensual skills inspire some seriously cataclysmic paranormal sex that completely reaffirmed my zeal for the sub-genre.
Although I would have adored more physical intimacy and romance, Up from the Grave remains a great read whose momentous ending left me restless and itching to know what happens next. I'm thoroughly hooked.

This was the perfect ending to one of my favorite series. Cat and Bones are faced with one last challenge and it's a doosey. Cat and Bones are on the hunt to find their missing friends who just happen to be Cat's old team and under Bone's protection. Cat's uncle Don is still keeping secrets that he took with him beyond the grave and will continue to cause dire problems for not only Cat's team but the future of both vampires and ghouls alike. Our duo have to face Marie Laveau, the infamous voodoo queen, an ancient and powerful demon in the form of Trove, as well as deal with the madness of the fanatical Madigan who wants Cat for his own nefarious reasons. There's plenty to this story to keep the pages turning.
Frost has brought in all of the major characters from this wonderful series to close out this final chapter and it more than met my expectations. I was a little afraid that it would end with a whimper and not a bang but my worries were for naught as Frost delivered with her usual flair for writing an enthralling story. Seeing this series end is bitter sweet, but I am so glad that Frost decided to end it on a high note while it is still entertaining with no disappointments. Hopefully there will be more spin off books in this world and I hope that Ian and Annette both get their own stories. It would be great to see the arrogant, conceited, and sexy as hell Ian meet his match and Annette really does deserve her own happily ever after. After loving Bones for so long and acquiescing to the love between Bones and Cat, she needs to find a true love of her own; plus she is one cool chick!
If you haven't yet read this series or was just waiting to be able to read it all the way through don't let the Night Huntress world pass you by. It's one of the most well written paranormal series out there and it would be a shame to miss out on the fun!

I have much love for Cat & Bones and the Night Huntress series. It's been an incredible seven year journey for this couple and seeing the end of it is bittersweet. I recommend this series to everyone I meet and they will always have a special place on my book shelf, and in my heart.
Vampires Cat and Bones have been enjoying the quiet for the last few months but with these two, it's never quiet for too long. Soon they discover that the agent that took over for Cat's Uncle Don has some dangerous secrets, secrets that could destroy the world as they know it.
All of our favorite characters return for Up From the Grave, one final hurrah I guess you could say. Jeaniene Frost delivers everything she is known for with a fast-paced plot, butt-kicking action, steamy sex scenes, two main characters that you wish could be real and your best friends as well as a supporting cast that captures little pieces of your heart every time you read about them. With twists a turns every few pages, the story keeps you on the edge of your seat. The series-arc reaches it's climax and little threads from even the start of the series are tied up bringing it full circle. There has been so much growth in the Night Huntress world, Cat's character growing the most. And the love between Cat and Bones shines through here, digging permanent roots in your heart that will never let go. They are unequaled in the paranormal romance genre.
I absolutely loved the story and the surprises in Up From the Grave, although one twist contradicts what Ms. Frost told readers at the start of the series. I am so sad to see the end but in the same sense happy as well because these two have been through so much. But while I enjoyed the over-all story, Up From the Grave didn't hold as much heart-pounding, gut-twisting romance as I've come to expect from previous books. I know that Cat and Bones are an established team now and like I said, they've been through so much already, but their relationship came across as too ordinary. And there is nothing ordinary about these two! I also felt that the ending was left open. I just didn't feel the satisfaction of closure for Cat and Bones.
All-in-all though, there is nothing out there that can compare to the Night Huntress series, Ms. Frost's superb writing skills, and her unparalleled imagination. Night Huntress fans will not be disappointed with this final installment and it will definitely leave you smiling. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Ms. Frost revisits Cat, Bones, and company in the future. Toes as well!
P.S. Up From the Grave is in no way a stand-alone book, read the series and then come back and tell me how much you loved it and it's former gigolo of a vampire!
Reading order:
1. Halfway to the Grave
2. One Foot in the Grave
3. At Grave's End
4. Destined for an Early Grave
5. This Side of the Grave
6. One Grave at a Time
7. Up From the Grave

This addition to the Night Huntress series gives off the feeling of a Grand Finale. One that will leave die hard fans of the series with a since of closure, and and as though Bones and Cat have finally gotten the Happily Ever After that they both deserve. Not saying that this indeed the end to their story, it quite possibly could be the beginning of a whole new chapter for the dynamic duo and their clan. One with more obstacles, challenges, enemies, unlikely allies and responsibilities that not even Mencheres could have foreseen. And Readers, the opening prologue, make sure you pay extra close attention to it, because when you learn later on who the female speaking is, someone will have to pull your mouth up from the floor.
We were introduced to Madigan a few books back, and could feel the deep seeded hatred between he and Don seething from the page. Never knowing where said hatred originated from, and neither did Bones or Cat. Now all of that is about to come to a head with a deadly outcome. To say Don has been tight lipped about the person who not only usurped his position, but almost caused Cat to face her final death. Now they need Don to come clean with the truth on the CIA agent once and for all, because now Tate, Juan and Cooper have gone missing and Madigan is the one behind their disappearance. When Don continues to be non cooperative they enlist the help of Marie Leveaux, the true Queen of the Dead, to 'persuade' him. What they find out about he and Madigans former business relationship it may cause a wrift between Uncle and Niece that can never be repaired. And it may cause an all out war in the Supernatural world.
Full of non stop action from the second you open the cover. Frost proves once again that she is a master at her craft. Having readers wonder whether they are reading a book or watching a movie play out before their eyes. I don't think this is the end of the series', that is just the vibe that I got off of the end. Felt like a true Grand Finale, but it may just be a new beginning. Also, readers will be happily surprised with a fiery wedding thrown in the mix.
This is book is definitely not meant to be read as a stand alone, and should not be. Now, if you have only read the Night Huntress series and none of the books from the Night Universe, I suggest you read those as well. This book and series are definite must reads.

So, this is it. The last Cat and Bones book. Many readers waited with anticipation for this book and I must say that's it was a fitting end for one of the best loved series in both paranormal romance and urban fantasy - since we readers can never agree which genre this series fits into.
In Up From the Grave, Cat and Bones finally learn Madigan's purpose in taking over Cat's old team and is quite interesting and despicable. This book has a lot of the things readers were most likely looking for in the series finale - Cat and Bones sexy times, a visit from pretty much every major character ever in the series (especially Ian and Tate), and an exciting plot. I did miss the multiple sex scenes we used to get in early Night Huntress books. It seems in recent installments that Frost limits us to one really great sexual adventure and that's it. I was hoping that in its final book, we would get a little more romantic time between our two favorite lovers but that didn't happen.
I still really enjoyed this book and thought that the way it ended was very appropriate as it took the two into a natural next phase in their relationship. Frost gives Cat and Bones a complete ending, and readers a glimpse into what their future will be like.
There were some parts of the main plot that felt slightly forced. I understood what the big concern between all the supernatural factions was, but it didn't feel like it was quite epic enough for the end of the series. What I did really like was a particular character who entered the book at about the halfway point and then became an important part of the main plot and the series ending. Obviously, I can't reveal too much about this character or I'd ruin the story for you, but I really felt like the plot line including this character was seriously under utilized and I wish we had had more time in the story to enjoy the other characters' relationship with this person.
Overall, this was a good installment in the Night Huntress series and I really appreciated the way Frost wrapped up the series end.
Recommended for fans of: Cat and Bones, urban fantasy, Ian, Tate, and nicely wrapped up series endings.
This review is based on an advance copy of the book provided by the publisher.

Overall, this was a good installment in the Night Huntress series and I really appreciated the way Frost wrapped up the series end.
Recommended for fans of: Cat and Bones, urban fantasy, Ian, Tate, and nicely wrapped up series endings.

This is the 7th and final book in the Night Huntress series. I am so happy that Frost chose to end the series here. I felt like the last couple books were starting to lag, and I would rather see the series end than completely pitter out. This was an enjoyable wrap-up to the series, it was action packed and added some really interesting things to Cat and Bone’s life.
I listened to this on audiobook and really enjoyed it. I have listened to most of the series on audiobook because the audiobooks are just spectacularly done. Really this is one of those series I like listening to more than reading, the narrator does such a wonderful job.
Cat and Bones have been enjoying a little peace and quiet for once. Of course that doesn’t last. Cat gets a call that her friends from the CIA have gone missing. As her and Bones struggle to figure what has happened to them, they find out that Cat’s nemesis at the CIA has been doing some crazy genetic experimentation and has created something that no one can control.
There were some things I liked about this book and some things I didn’t. In general I think it was a good way to close out the series and I think it was time to close out this series.
I love Cat and Bones, I love that they have finally gotten some peace and quiet. Their relationship has settled into a more comfortable happiness, there are some very steamy scenes between them which were well done.
That being said the steamy scenes were the best written part of the book. There were a number of plot points that felt forced or didn’t really make sense. Cat again, underestimates Bones a number of times and goes behind his back...this is something that I thought Cat had grown past doing. I was a bit sad to see Cat making the same mistakes as usual. Some of the action scenes were written a bit awkwardly as well.
There was some awkward dialogue, especially in the beginning of the book. There were also a number of times when I thought “Why in the world would ___ do that? It doesn’t make any sense.” For example Cat calling the CIA agent and having him meet her on an abandoned pier. Why would she do that? Why would he agree to meet her? Why would Cat actually think that he would come alone and not bring reinforcements...seriously is she that stupid? This was just one example of a point where I thought things didn’t really make sense or fit with the characters personalities.
There is also a major twist in the middle of the book that I thought was just plain silly. It doesn’t fit with Cat’s personality and Cat’s sudden strong feelings towards this deadly individual were just absolutely out of place and odd.
There are a lot of cameos in here. Mencheres is in the story, so is Denise and Spade. Denise actually plays a fairly large role in the story and I enjoyed that. Ian plays a pretty large role as well. Vlad shows up for a smallish part of the book too. All these characters have excellent back stories, although you need to read the Night Huntress World books as well as the Night Prince series to have all the background here. I am kind of hoping we see a story about Ian in the future.
Overall a decent urban fantasy. There are some well done steamy scenes and Frost does a good job of wrapping up the series in a way that will leave readers happy. I think this was a good point to end the series at. However, this definitely wasn’t the strongest book in the series. There are some awkward moments in here; some of the action scenes weren’t written all that well, there were plot points that just didn’t make sense, and even some of the dialogue was a bit forced. Overall I definitely recommend this urban fantasy series to fans of urban fantasy, it is for the most part a wonderful series. This book was a good wrap up, but more of a necessary evil than a spectacular finale.

I've been a huge fan of the Night Huntress series ever since I first discovered it, I love Cat and Bones but I also love (or love to hate) all the side characters we have come to know so well throughout the series and the spin off stories. I was upset when I found out that Up from the Grave was going to be the last book in the series, I understand and respect Jeaniene Frost's decision to end things here rather than drag out the storyline but that doesn't mean I felt ready to say goodbye. I'm going to miss these characters but I guess that's the good thing about books - you can always reread them! We also have the final book in Vlad's spin off to look forward to and I'm holding on to hope that we might get an Ian book or two at some point in the future too.
Up from the Grave contains everything fans of this series would expect - lots of action, great interactions between Cat and Bones, a nasty enemy with seriously evil plans and the team joining forces with some surprising allies to save the day. I'm going to admit there were a couple of things I didn't like so much though, things that felt unnecessary to me and lowered my rating slightly, but I can't really say too much without veering into spoiler territory so I'm going to leave it at that very vague pronouncement! What I did enjoy was seeing all of the characters I've come to love play a role in the story. Denise proves what an amazing friend she is in this one and Cat is lucky to have someone like that at her back, I think we could all use a friend like Denise and I was glad she got another chance to shine. Ian is also a stand out character here and the more I see of him the more desperate I am to read a full length story about him!
I love seeing how far Cat and Bones have come in their relationship, they are so much stronger now than they were in the beginning and they really are unbeatable when they're working as a team. They are one of my favourite fictional couples and have been for a long time now so I'm going to miss them. This series is certainly one that will be staying on my keeper shelf.

This was a great book. I'm writing this review with a combination of happiness and sadness. Happiness because I loved Cat and Bones' most recent story and the way it turned out. Sadness because this is the last book in the series and I will be sad to see them go. I liked the way the story in this book sets Cat and Bones up with a reason to withdraw from society for a while at the end. It makes finishing of the series work in a way...not matter how much I regret the need. I do give kudos to Frost for stopping the series where she felt it needed to conclude instead of extending it past that with lower quality stories just to try to sell more books.
Cat and Bones are a vampire couple. Cat is relatively young (in her 30s) and was born a half-vampire but a few years ago changed in to a full vampire. Bones is over 200 years old, the master of a line and very powerful. Since he received a gift of additional power from his co-ruler, Bones has been spouting new abilities, which ends up being helpful in this book.
Cat used to (when she was still half-vamp/half-human) work for an undercover government agency that hunts and kills or captures killer vamps. Her uncle ran the program but when he died a real jerk named Madigan took over and has been causing trouble for Cat ever since. Cat's uncle died but is now a ghost but he refuses to tell Cat and Bones more about what Madigan is doing until it becomes apparent that Tate, Juan, Cooper and Dave (Cats friends from her old team) have disappeared. It doesn't take long to realize that Madigan is the one who made them disappear. They have to do more digging which included a quick visit to Tyler the medium and Majestic the Queen of the ghouls. They find out that Madigan has a secret lab where he's trying to make vampire/ghoul/human hybrids. When Majestic finds out she gives Cat and Bones 60 days to clear this up before she involves the Vampire counsel and the enforcers. Since the enforcers would take out the whole facility and probably kill Tate, Juan, Dave and Cooper they decide to handle things themselves.
Cat and Bones are able to find out where the facility it located but then have trouble figuring out how to get in. Cat has an idea but things get hijacked and they're able to take out the facility and save their friends but not without some heartache on Cat's side when for a while she thinks she's lost Bones (again). They do manage to capture Madigan but more goes wrong and they have some major issues trying to find out who Madigan was working with. When they find out it just makes things more difficult. Cat also gets some heart wrenching news about how they used info from studying her (and stolen tissues) in order to do their experiments. The news and the results are something that brings more to the story, heightening the suspense because I'm wondering how the heck they're going to manage to pull this off to get a happy ending. Cat has a lot to deal with and Bones is strong at her side, doing whatever he needs to in order to help her and keep her as safe as possible. There's a little angst between them during some tense situations and disagreements but overall they are pretty strong together in this story and I loved seeing it. They have a lot to sort out with little time to do it and although there's some major drama and I shed some tears, the ending was great. I was actually a little surprised at how things worked out and the story ends happily but as I said above, it gives a good reason for Cat and Bones to pull away from society for a while.
This was a great book and a really good conclusion to the series. Cat and Bones are the same great couple that's made them my favorite PNR couple. The story was constantly moving and I didn't want to stop reading because there was always something going on that I wanted to see how it turned out. I'm sad to see the series end but I have heard that Frost may write one more book from the Night Huntress world in addition to the 3rd Vlad book so maybe we'll get glimpses of Cat and Bones in the future. I'll definitely be trying her new series, Broken Destiny. I'd recommend this book. 2 thumbs up! :D
* note - I listened to the audiobook version of this and Tavia did her normal great job with the narration.

I can’t imagine that any fan of the Night Huntress series is going to be disappointed by this series finale. Up From the Grave is jam-packed with everything fans could want from a farewell. All the main characters are back and have a hand in the story. All the loose ends are tied up. It’s a fast-paced, action packed story with at least one shocking twist. The love between Cat and Bones is deep and abiding. And the ending provides the kind of happily ever after that wraps up everything in a nice shiny bow.
There is a lot happening… so much, in fact, that this almost felt like two stories in one. The first half is devoted to Madigan, the government agent who took over Don’s unit after he died. We’ve already established he is a bad egg, but we learn here that he is so very much worse than we first thought. Unfortunately, Don’s ghost doesn’t want to spill the details, so Cat and Bones have to unravel his secrets –then fight to take down Madigan’s twisted operation. The second half of the book involves that shocking twist I mentioned –and only an evil person would spoil it.
I enjoyed where Jeaniene Frost took the story. It made the whole series really come together in a cohesive way. It also really shows us who Cat and Bones have become as characters. There has definitely been growth there (especially for Cat) –but we also see that there are some things about them that will never change. Some make for tough pills to swallow and frustrated me to see. But even more frustrating was the fact that some of it was predictable. I have spent enough time with these characters that I figured out what they were doing before the big reveal. You will too. At least one of the big surprises was no surprise at all. And that took away a lot of the emotional impact.
That’s not say it was all predictable… not at all. In fact, the road to the final HEA was one I never would have predicted. It’s a little trite, but let’s face it… we want Cat and Bones to have the wonderful forever, so I think we’re all going to roll with it.
I loved how much of Denise, Charles, Ian, and Mencheres played a role. I loved the parts Vlad, Marie, Tate, and even Fabian played. The whole gang really made me feel like we were going out with one last big hurrah. It’s all so… big. I’m glad Frost decided to take the series out on a high note. Better to go out with a bang than a whimper.

I admit it. I’ve had this book in my possession since it was first released over a year ago. So why haven’t I read it until now? I’m a wimp. I just couldn’t bring myself to say goodbye to Cat & Bones. I figured I had put it off long enough though and I’m glad I finally picked it up. Up from the Grave turned out to be the perfect ending to an amazing series.
I’m not sure how much I can add to the hundreds of reviews that have already been written, so I’ll keep it short. Plus, if I write too much I’m afraid I’ll give something away. Up from the Grave had more than a few surprising twists, unexpected alliances and the normal heat, romance and fun that fans have come to expect from Cat, Bones and company.
Frost brought the book and series to a satisfying end and that’s pretty much all fans could ask for. It also made me love them even more. Up from the Grave also gave me a whole new appreciation for at least one character. I mention this mainly because I really hope that some of my favorites (one snarky vamp in particular) find their way into the Night Huntress World with books of their own. ;)

In the world of the extraordinary, vampires and ghouls exist side by side, not bothering one another. However, in Ms. Frost’s final novel, UP FROM THE GRAVE, this can all transform in an instant if the government operation that Cat Crawfield worked for long-ago, pulls out the stops on a heinous procedure. Cat’s uncle, Don, now a ghost, knows about this too, but chooses to disregard Cat’s pleas for information on the confidential practices. Now, Cat and Bones speed to untangle the clandestine operation before a battle breaks out involving ghouls and vampires.
Who is the mastermind behind these horrible crimes? Why won’t Uncle Don spill the beans on what is happening? Where are Cat’s friends; Tate, Dave, Cooper and Juan? How will Cat and Bones put a stop to what is happening?
Plot twists, knock-em, sock-em action and sensual romance round out the final entry in Jeaniene Frost’s sensational book, UP FROM THE GRAVE. All your favorite characters make a final appearance, with all their personality quirks intact! Ms. Frost does a wonderful job of tying up loose ends, writing true to form, all the while keeping readers guessing until the very end. There is a new addition to the cast, which gives a nice familial touch. Ms. Frost writes with true style, wit and warmth, which I love. Her characters have found a place in my heart and I hate to say goodbye to them. This book is an intelligent mix of pleasurable, serious, painful and fiendish scary moments, all rolled together into one neat little package. UP FROM THE GRAVE is spine chilling but oh, so addictive. Like a roaring concoction of a tequila sunrise with earth-shattering effects!

Things in Cat Crawfield-Russell’s life have been way too calm of late. Therefore, it is no surprise when her ghostly uncle Don brings bad tidings. It appears there is a new big bad in town and he’s been kidnapping all of Cat and her husband Bones’ friends. Upon a little digging, Cat and Bones discover the fate of the world may be on the line if they cannot figure out how to once again save the day.
Cat and Bones seek help from some familiar faces but will it be enough to bring their friends home safe and sound or will Cat and Bones suffer an unthinkable fate?
Okay, okay this was a difficult read for me because I knew it was going to be the end of one of my favorite series. Of course, Up From The Grave was bloody fangtastic! I cannot and will not ever be able to get enough of Cat and Bones. Jeanine Frost brought to life characters that will forever hold a place in my heart.
The Night Huntress series was the first that I read starring a kickass woman I was ready to cheer for. I have always loved how this series went against the norms. We had a full life with Cat and Bones. They weren’t strung along forever they got their romance, had the chance to fight together with friends old and new, and now they have their happily-ever-after in true Cat and Bones fashion.
Up From The Grave charges the readers emotions. I went through the holy cow, crying, thank the lord, OMG! & the HELL YES stages. They were invigorating and made for the perfect ending. The plotline is thrilling and keeps the reader guessing. Up From The Grave is bittersweet and sentimentally satisfying. Thank you to author Jeanine Frost for years of exhilarating reading!

I really hope that Frost also provides at least a couple of short stories later on because I was not willing to let go of this crew before, but now I really am not ready to let them go!
Up from the Grave was better than I expected, although sometimes I was a bit bored, but when the story revved up, despite the fact that many of the dramatic scenes was pretty predictable, and only Cat (still) was a bit slow-minded, I really enjoyed it.
I loved that the whole team came together (although Vlad 's absence is inexcusable! I understand that he has a book, but dang , he's Cat 's Best Friend .... sort of). Sometimes it reminded me of Resident Evil , Underworld or Twilight (not to be afraid, this book does not contains sparkly creatures), but despite all these similarities I liked every solution/twist.
I approve of the big bad enemy. It was great and unexpected (to me anyway). And I like that it wasn't just one human SOB. The conflict was great as it's - although we have not seen it before - arcs over the whole series. There humor was less than it used to be, but it was enough to this kind of story. Same with the hot romantic scenes. It was less romance and more adventure (in "hell").
Is Up From The Grave a worthy ending for the series? Halfway through the book I would have said no. In the end I say HELL YEAH! Of course it could have been better overall, but at the end, I felt that we're finally home and dry. I felt that spark of peace Cat wanted so badly. Neither was it rushed nor dragged out.
Remained any open door? Yes. Not one either, therefore I would like a short story despite the fact that I'm not a big fan of short stories. I want to see what happens next in with the small group, even if nothing exciting. No cliffhanger, more like an open thread for everyone to imagine themselves how our favorite vampires live off their hopefully long life.
And now a minute of silence in memory of the best series of my life! :(
Up from the Grave was better than I expected, although sometimes I was a bit bored, but when the story revved up, despite the fact that many of the dramatic scenes was pretty predictable, and only Cat (still) was a bit slow-minded, I really enjoyed it.
When I read that Frost was ending the Cat & Bones series, I was disappointed to say the least. But disappointed doesn't even begin to describe how I felt as I struggled to connect to the story. Frost always managed to hook the reader from the beginning but as I read the prologue three times, I began to realize, "Houston, we have a problem." It would have been so much better to just start with Cat's point of view and not show us the prologue- since it's a third person POV anyway and no names are used, it's very confusing (reading over it again after finishing the book, it's easy to figure out now...)
I've always enjoyed Frost's writers and attention to detail but there were PAGES of description and inner dialogue/thought and not enough action or talking, giving me a "yawn" factor. There are some surprise "WHOA!" scenes but as others have mentioned, it seems as if Frost was influenced by popular culture and was looking for just a simple way to wrap this up.

The last two books before this one in this series were unsatisfactory for me. So I picked this book up with apprehension and the first few chapters seemed to back that up. Cat is at home and all of the sudden Don comes in, is cryptic, and leaves. Boom: plot. I prefer it when plots develop and unveil themselves with a little more finesse... but this has been pretty typical of Jeaniene's last few books so I noted, with disappointment, it but kept reading.
And I'm glad I did. This book was significantly stronger than the last two have been and I am happy to say that as far as series endings go, this was a great finale. It tied up a lot of threads, issues and plot lines. It let us visit with all our favorite characters and did so believably. It gave us hope that Bone and Cat were entering a new phase of their lives and that it would a good one, and well deserved.
I think the series ending was well timed and I am happy to leave the characters when they have such a wonderful adventure ahead of them. And yes, I do think it would be lovely to visit with them in the future, just to see how they are handling their new responsibilities.

Up From the Grave, the seventh and final book in the Night Huntress series wasn't at all what I expected but was a perfect ending for Cat and Bones. Leave it to Jeaniene Frost to totally take the series in a direction I didn't see coming. At all. And Ian?! Good gods I lurve that pervy, snarky, narcissistic vampire. He never fails to crack me up and he flat out rocked in Up From the Grave.
I'd like to say that I have that "I just read the most fantabulous book and I'm on top of the world" feeling but I don't. I feel like I just said goodbye to one of my closest friends as the Night Huntress series has always been something I've turned to for comfort when life gets me down.
Up From the Grave was bittersweet but Cat and Bones finally got the ending they so desperately deserve and after all, they will live on for me in re-reads. As for Ian, I know that Jeaniene plans to write another book in the Night Huntress World series. Maybe, just maybe it will be about him. Something tells me that he and Veritas would be combustible together.

Jesus criminy!!! This is how you end a series! I bow down to the brilliance of Jeanine Frost. From the get go, questions are answered and OMG the biggest shocker takes place just chapters in. This book had me crying, screaming, laughing and is a total homage to the loyal fans of the Cat and Bones series. All I can say is THANK YOU Ms. Frost. It's been an amazing ride and a pure joy to share this amazing world with you.
So now I suppose you all want a quick synopsis. Well I'll try but I honestly don't want to give anything away because this is the final book in an amazing series and I just don't want to ruin anything, so please excuse the briefness of this one.
Cat and Bones have been enjoying a relatively quiet existence recently, call it semi-retirement until their friends go missing and as you know, no one messes with their loved ones and gets away with it. As their long standing rival moves to ensnare Cat and Bones, the husband and wife pair must pull out all the stops to defeat their worst foe to make sure everyone is safe.
As a bonus, we also get visits from all the wonderful characters in the Night Huntress world as well as getting to attend Vlad's wedding *sigh*.
In this epic finale, everyone is called to arms, no one is safe and nothing is as it seems. You will never be prepared for this final supernatural show down!

Up From the Grave is the seventh and final installment of talented Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series. Whoa that was a roller coaster of crazy suspense! There were some MAJOR close calls with favorite characters that had me on the edge of my seat reminding myself over and over, "No, Ms. Frost would NOT end her series like this..." When the last page was read, I was content with the ending of this series and the future that was suggested for Cat and Bones. It's sad saying goodbye as this series was my first urban fantasy experience and is what made me fall in love with this genre. But on a positive note, maybe I won't be saying goodbye quite yet as there are one or two Night Huntress novellas I have yet to read and hopefully we will continue to see some cameo appearances in Ms. Frost's Night Prince series.
My favorite quotes:
“That’s how two vampires, a medium, and a dog came to sit around a Ouija board in the back room of a floral shop. It sounded like the plot to a SyFy Channel Saturday night movie, but sometimes “weird” was the key ingredient to getting things done.”
“We were never properly introduced,” I said in a vicious purr. “I’m the Red Reaper, and you’re dead.”
“Only a fool chooses to live in ignorance when knowledge is so easily obtained.”

Up from the Grave felt like more of a wrap-up than an adventure. Actions and motivations seemed a bit rushed as Kat was reaching towards the finish line in this series: First, she made the same amateurish mistake twice, walking into danger and becoming a victim; Second, she is saved twice by the same trick by the same person; Third, the supernatural action turned superhero-ish, as one person on her team is suddenly able to solve every problem and disable every enemy with his/her suddenly discovered superpowers. All these combined is what made the storyline feel rushed because everything was just too convenient. What was more bothersome to me was that Cat also demonstrated a bit of a personality change when she seems indifferent to human death (sure, they're the bad guys, but still...). She also uses extreme violence to get what she wants, as if it is justified by the means. At times, the book had the feel of a thriller geared toward a male, militaristic audience, where blunt force and prevailing power are positives. That being said, I still liked that book because I have grown to care for the characters. However, I do feel more removed from Cat and Bones because their responses seemed more mechanical than visceral in this book, so it is a fitting end as I won't miss the people they have become.

I approached the final Cat and Bones book with equal parts excitement and trepidation; I was thrilled at being reunited with one of my favourite Urban Fantasy couples of all time but also a little scared that Jeaniene Frost needed more than one installment in order to wrap-up this series to my liking. But, we can all rest easy now because UP FROM THE GRAVE ties up all loose ends, gives the characters the HEA that they deserve, and stays true to the NIGHT HUNTRESS roots. This finale is bloody satisfying and tear-jerkingly wonderful!
The lid is blown wide open on all of the secrets that Don, Cat’s uncle, has been keeping from his niece and her vampire family, and the depth and level of his treachery will astound you. The original government operation that Crawfield was a part of back in her Red Reaper days has been warped to the point of it being practically unrecognizable. The corruption is more widespread than I ever imagined and the real motivation behind it all is to cause an all-out war between vampires and ghouls. However, as heinous as the big bad’s evil scheme turns out to be, there’s a silver lining hidden beneath it that just might be the key to Cat and Bones’ happily-ever-after.
There’s no shortage of drama or shocking revelations in this installment, and all of this series’ phenomenal characters come out to play. Cat and Bones are as spectacular as ever―playing off of each other’s strengths and weaknesses, even when they aren’t necessarily on the same page. Frost also ensures that this duo gets at least one more memorable romp in by putting Crispin’s telekinetic skills to good use (*swoon*). There’s a brief break in the action to attend Vlad and Leila’s wedding which was a nice tie-in to the spin-off NIGHT PRINCE series, and Ian doesn’t disappoint with his man whorish ways and rather impressive ghoul killing skills. Then there’s of course Spade, Denise, Fabian, Marie, Tate, Mencheres, and last but definitely not least Katie. She’s an unexpected but brilliant surprise!
I read this book in one sitting while alternating between cheering, screaming, laughing, and crying. No NIGHT HUNTRESS novel would be complete without a few close calls, Cat getting peed on, and a couple of death threats between friends. I loved that Frost stayed true to this series’ roots, gave meaning to every character’s journey, and ended their adventure on the highest of high notes. Cat and Bones’ HEA was better than expected, better than anything I could ever have imagined. And, by the last page I felt like I was right there alongside everyone watching the happy family sail off into the sunset. Thank you Jeaniene for making me feel like I was a part of this journey, and thank you for doing the characters that I have grown to know and love justice. Your work here is done!
UP FROM THE GRAVE left me feeling satiated, complete, and fulfilled but also slightly optimistic that we haven’t seen the last of Cat and Bones. So, I refuse to say good-bye, and instead am opting to go with I’ll see you soon. I hope. Again, thank you Jeaniene, you killed it!!!

I have been reading the Night Huntress series since the beginning and loving it, I like the other books set in this world too but I preferred the original series. Ok So I have to be the only person in the world that read this without knowing this was the last book in the series. Okay so I am not the brightest bulb on the branch, anyway...moving on.
Some other reviewer said this on Goodreads and after reading this book it's true Ian really needs his own book, like yesterday! The Night Huntress series has been on of my favorites for awhile now and I think it might be the only vampire series left that I read. I love the writing style and the humor and Bones and Cat are still one of the hottest couples in UF.
This book finds the vamp duo looking for 4 missing co workers from Cat's days working with the military. The whole crew is a long for the ride so the series ended with a cameo from all the previous characters.
Of course there's lots of action and yes I was surprised by a new character that was introduces...read the book! Actually it was a great way to end the series without leaving behind any unanswered questions. I will continue reading the other books to come out in the Night Huntress world.

As most readers of the Night Huntress series, I have come to love Cat and Bones. Knowing the series was going to end sadden me a bit. Ms. Frost created some amazing stories and gave us characters that we will be taking about for years to come.
With that said, Up From the Grave was everything that I expected from a Night Huntress novel. A great plot, that had twists that this reader did not see coming. Surprises around every corner. Lots of hard core vampire action that Cat and Bones are known for. We get to visit with Cat and Bones friends that we have come to know and love. The only thing that I can truly say that I was disappointed with in the book was it did kinda lack in the steamy scenes that has made me love Bones.
Ms. Frost did a wonderful justice to the ending book of the Night Huntress. I got all my questions answered. We went on hell of a ride. Over many books in the series Bones asks Cat over and over to trust him. He asked one more time for Cat to trust him and she does. I was so happy to see that Cat did trust the one she loves and with that trust Cat and Bones got their happily ever after.

The book begins with Cat having to help save her old team mates from the guy who took over their old facility. She and Bones both hate this guy, but he's very protected and now Cat has to do new tactics in order to get inside and figure out what is going on. And she never expected to find what she did. This book leads us on the last crazy journey in this series with Bones and Cat.
I really liked the book, and I thought over all it was really good. The only thing that bugged me though was I felt like one part of it was a repeat of previous books, then I sorta felt like the ending was so out of left field. I never even saw that coming. Although I did kind of like it, especially the stuff with Tate and Bones that was really unexpected. Now I'm sad to see this end. Especially when I want to find out more about "Katie." I'm not saying more than that because it will ruin it. Just know that lots of the old gang are in this one including Vlad, but he only makes a small appearance. And now I want to read more of his series. AHH I'm still so sad this one is over.. Oh well it was a great ending to a pretty awesome series.

I can't believe this is the last book. Man, I'm really crossing my fingers that Jeaniene will write a short story of what happens next. Just a little something, maybe in a year or so that will let me see into their lives. I just want to know how they're doing!
Up From the Grave takes the Madigan plot into its conclusion. I'm very disappointed with Madigan's fate. There were also certain things in this book that werereally predictable (because it was done before in previous Night Huntress books) but that was ok - still entertaining to see how everything played out. All side characters that I was hoping to see again one last time made cameo appearances which I thought was nice of Jeaniene since we all know this is the LAST BOOK!! (And by all, I truly mean ALL - like Timmie, Annette, Tyler/Dexter)
Not a must read before you die, but a nice ending to my favorite literary couple. Cat and Bones, you'll always have a place in my heart, and I'm glad the last scene I have of you are on a boat with family. Until again.

Completely jumped the shark. I started this book thinking that I was sad the series was over and by the time I finished it, I was glad I didn't have to read another one. I felt like she ripped a page out of the Stephenie Meyer playbook. I think I may have audibly groaned when the character I'm speaking of was described. If you're a fan of the Cat and Bones series, of course you have to read it, but you don't have to be happy about it.

Say it ain't so!!!!! I hate that this is the last book in the series, but what a way to close it out.
This was action packed, full of twists and turns and emotional tugs and pulls. Bones and Cat turned up the bad assery in this one. I'm going to miss these characters.
I think that it is a satisfying conclusion to a great series. I enjoyed Ms. Frost's writing and will checking out her other series.

I'm so glad I didn't purchase this book and instead read a library copy. The story was extremely predictable it just didn't really have any serious twists or turns in the plot. Vlad was barely used in the story and when he was it was just like it was a complete afterthought by Jeaniene.
I really sat there wondering after the book if Jeaniene had become completely bored with the Cat & Bones series, it was like there was really no effort put into the storyline or the characters. With all the thought that was put into the earlier books I was left with the real feeling of 'what just happened'?

I am sad to see this series end. I have loved it for years! I'm glad we do get to follow some of the other characters and grow their stories in the spin-off/parallel series and stories. I did feel that this book was a bit rushed toward the end - it could have been developed a little more fully and slowly, but that didn't really detract from my enjoyment because I was so involved with all the characters already [I have been reading the side series along with this primary series]. While I'm saddened to close this series, I appreciate when an author says 'Ok, that's what I the characters have shown me for their story'. I also appreciate that they DO appear in the continuing series Night Prince [starting with Once Burned].

REVIEW:
I am really sad this series is coming to an end. But like all good things it can’t go on forever. Cat & Bones have been a huge part of my love for all things paranormal. These two have had a rollercoaster ride of the years and I am grateful that I grab the very first book in this series. There will be no spoilers at all in this review. No summary of this book in this review. This is just my love of this series and for Ms. Frost. While I was surprised by a few things in this book I am so happy that Cat & Bones finally might have some down time and a chance to enjoy their life together.
I really hope that Ms. Frost will revisit these two in the future. I really can’t wait to see what the future holds. Fans of Cat & Bones will really enjoy this story.

This is perhaps the best end of a series book that I have read, and that makes the end of this beloved series awfully bittersweet. This is a kick-ass series, strong heroine, yummy men, beautiful love, and plenty of humor and action to go around. I will miss Bones and Cat and hope that Ms. Frost continues to write books based in this world and we get to catch glimpses of their well deserved H.E.A. There is one more Night Prince book that I am eagerly awaiting, so it isn't completely over just yet... This finial installment of the Night Huntress was full of twists and turns and we were able to catch finial visits with many or most of the beloved characters from this series. It was lovely to see them all again and have everyone come together to overcome the obstacles Cat and Bones were facing. I will have to reread this series again someday. Thank you Ms. Frost for this world you have created I have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent here.

The much-anticipated final chapter in the Cat and Bones saga did not leave me disappointed. All my questions were answered, but I’m still longing for more! I can only wait in anticipation for the release of a new Night Huntress World book. Maybe Ian? Or Tate? Gotta love Cooper, Dave, and Juan too! So many possibilities!
Up From The Grave is perfection. Frost did not fail me by ending the series early. Cat and Bones are in the fight of their lives, trying to save their friends from the evil Jason Madigan, the former CIA operative who took over Cat’s Uncle Don’s position. I bawled like a baby through 83% of the book. The fights were the most violent and the suspense was killer. The twist and turns she so intricately spins into the story leaves this book at an easy 5 stars for me!

It's been a year since I've read anything by Jeaniene Frost, so I figured it was about time to read the latest in the Night Huntress series. (Or listen to it, in this case - I've had several purse orders lately, so listening to audio books is the only way I'll get any reading done! )
The author wastes no time getting to the action in this book. The story starts off with Don, the ghostly form of Kat's uncle, bringing some bad news; her friends, and former soldiers, are missing. As the story progresses you're hit with several plot twists that will have you gasping in surprise, and lots of action, both in the bedroom and on the battlefield. A lot of the series characters are in on the action in this book, almost as if Jeaniene is bringing the series to a close... or at least that's the feel I get from it.
Overall, it's another great book in the Night Huntress World! - See more at: [...]

4 Stars... Cat and Bones fight their final battle in this action packed conclusion filled with some intriguing surprises... All the elements we love to see from these characters is present in this final installment including intense romance, action packed sequences, and some witty humor to round it all out... A good conclusion to an entertaining series:)

This is the last book in one of my favorite series, and that’s okay with me.
This series started out amazing. I absolutely LOVED the first three books. But then things, well, they were still pretty great, but it just wasn’t the same. You know how the excitement of first love fades? Well, I felt something like that.
So the fact that this was the last book in the series is okay with me. I think it’s time. Now, don’t get me wrong, this was still a great book. I’m just glad that Ms. Frost is ending on a great note. So basically, if you’re already reading this series, definitely read this and finish the series!
And if you haven’t read this series yet, give the first one a try, it’s so fangtastic. ;)

I really enjoyed the story lines. My only complaint is that the female characters had a few too many "blonde moments", if you'll excuse the slur. Frequently, drawing the wrong conclusions and refusing to accept their own natures.
Also, the narrator was quite unnecessarily melodramatic.
Overall though, the books were pretty good.

As a huge fan of Cat and Bones, I was over the moon with the release of this final entry in the series. Admittedly, I was skeptical about whether the author would be able to maintain her usual fast-paced sensual story-line for the happily-married vampire couple, but Jeaniene never fails to deliver. Each book she writes raises the bar, and this one is no exception.
I am ever-amazed at how Jeaniene juggles the plot-lines, even across her book series, and I loved the twist in this one. Up from the grave is full of edge-of-your-seat action, steamy passion, clever wit and arrogantly awesome characters. This is a must for any Cat and Bones fans, but if you haven’t read the entire set, don’t spoil one of the best series I've ever read – start at the beginning!

Cat she still knows how to tease her man properly, "then his head lowered, but before his lips brushed mine, I turned away. "Not until you say you missed me, too," I teased." I mean I love her corny jokes, "I slipped my arms around him, breathing in his scent and reveling in the hard feel of his body as he pressed me close. "You'll ache with something else as soon as we're alone," I whispered." *Sighs* I love Bones, I really do, "he snorted. "I've been ready, luv. It's you that takes the longest, as always." I've only read the first and last book of this series because well I'm not much for suspense and I like to know the outcome before I read the other books haha.

When I saw that the book was already in my Kindle on the 28th at first I was adamant to read it, not for any negative reason but I wasn't sure if I'm ready to say goodbye to the characters and the world that I loved so much. Yes, it sounds a bit melodramatic but its the plain truth.
I have read tons of books before picking up Halfway to the Grave but when I got to know Cat and Bones there was no turning back. It started my love affair with books. Now, I'm the all time top user of Goodreads in my country.
When I got to the last page, I was very happy. I was satisfied with the ending since it didn't feel like an ending at all! It felt like I will be seeing my book friends someday soon!
This will always be one of my favorite series and Cat & Bones my favorite book couple of all time!

This series needs to be read in order. The first is Halfway to the Grave. (Night Huntress Series).
Sadly, this is the last book in the Night Huntress Series. This was a well done ending to the series. It soon grabs you and takes you on a roller coaster ride, with a few shocking turns and twists, along the way. I will miss Cat and Bones but at least they finally get their well deserved happily ever after. By the end of the book, nothing is left unanswered, all the secrets from Cat's past with Don are revealed, and the way things end up feels completely natural, and as one could see it ending. A series worth reading, and well done.

I am so very sad to see the series end. So many things happen in this book that I can’t even begin to discuss. If you are a fan of the series you will totally love this book. Cat and Bones have been a favorite of mine for a very long time and to see them end, it really breaks my heart.
I want to thank Jeaniene Frost for bringing these characters to life and sharing their beautiful love story with all of us. Cat and Bones have been through many trials and tribulations, each test more difficult than the rest. But nothing ever could or would destroy their love.

Such a great story! I don't know if JF is planning on being done with the Night Huntress series, but if she is, then I am well sated.
After a small reprieve, Cat and Bones are back trying to save their kind from war yet again.
More and more secrets come out that are beyond describing....well, except to say shocking and emotional to say the least!
The tricks these creatures can play on one another is just insane as well. I don't even know if I could keep up with everything if they were all true!
Oh and of course....
Gotta love our quick Vlad appearance too ;)

Well done Jeaniene Frost, well done!
Up From the Grave is the last book in the Night Huntress series. While I am trying to hold back the sobs because I won't be reading anymore full length Cat & Bones' novels, I completely applaud and respect Jeaniene Frost's bravery to end her beloved series. I imagine it is a super hard thing to do when you have created such amazing characters that scores of fans love. Cat & Bones are her babies. Oh how I wish more authors had series where the main protagonists were married and taking on adventures. We need more couples like that in our romance world!
Now comes the hard part for me. How do I write a review telling you how brilliantly awesome this story was without revealing some heavy spoilers????
Up From the Grave was chalk full of action and I think that Jeaniene Frost channelled to her fans some pretty deep emotions. I didn't cry or shed any tears but I felt the mirage of emotions deep down. Many heart strings get tugged. Having said that, there was a lot of anger being spewed and even a laugh out loud moment (surprisingly brought to us by Mencheres).
I loved that with Up From the Grave being the last book, Jeaniene Frost did a great job of incorporating all of the secondary cast of characters into the story. It didn't feel forced including them all in. Seamless really.
The intimate scenes were a little on the soft side and I can only recall one scene from memory. I think that that Up From the Grave had so much story to fit in that another intimate scene written in would have felt forced or just placed in for the sake of having another sex scene. I thought it was perfect. Bones was still very romantic and protective of Cat all throughout the story so it never felt off.
The plot was very clever and the story ended on a superb high note that still left the series open for a possibility of more books or a spin off.
Teasers: a captured Cat, a more powerful Bones, like mother like daughter

I'm so glad I found my copy of Up From the Grave while I was cleaning up my to-read pile. To think Cat and Bones's last book just sat there for nearly three years is ridiculous.
I've loved the Night Huntress series for a lot of years, and still consider the audio versions some of the best ever. Up From the Grave was an action-packed, thrilling end to the series.

This explosive conclusion to The Night Huntress Series doesn't disappoint. From first page to last page, you receive answers to all your questions and some questions that you even didn't think of at all. You get to see all the characters of The Night Huntress World some old favorites to your most hated characters. No stone is unturned or ground uncovered. I'm pleased this series ended on a high note unlike The Sookie Stackhouse Series which ended but didn't really resolve anything or produce a HEA for the characters. Ms. Frost did a beautiful job and she will always be on my must read list now and in the future.

While I will always read anything that Jeaniene Frost writes before anything else, in this series (my favorite ever & only one I have ever re-read) this is my least favorite. It could be because Cat and Bone's story has come to an end, but had they gone out with a bang I would still have treasured it more. The ending is a little weak, and mimics another popular series. For some reason, I felt that some of Cat's impulses didn't quite fit the character I had grown to love; it could be that there was not enough build up to this point in her life. Originally the author planned for there to be at least one or two more books in the series before this ending to the story. Perhaps that plan would have helped see Cat reach a point in her life were the evolvement would have been more believable. In any case, this book is still far better than many you will read; the series is a must read. The characters and their story will forever be joyride you don't you want to end, and I'm truly sad that it has. Thank goodness the Night Huntress World is larger than just they, and therefore I won't experience complete withdrawal.

Such a wonderful and fitting end to one of my favorite series, this story had it all. Plenty of action as usual, with lots of angst, tears, determination, courage and love on the part of my beloved Cat and Bones, with help from quite a number of my favorite characters, it was the best yet. I loved the twists and turns the story took, and how everything was wrapped up in the end with a totally satisfying conclusion. Although I’m so sad to see the series end, I know this author will write plenty of wonderful stories to enjoy in the future, so I can’t be too disappointed.

Well, this is a bittersweet review for me to write. I am going to miss Cat and Bones and everybody, unless JF writes spin offs like with Vlad. I absolutely adored this book. The twist the author made with Cat and Tate, OMG, i didn't know how to feel but i loved it and it just helped the feel that all of them are family. I don't have words to describe the awesomeness of this series and this book. Please read this series, you'll love it forever!
So, the things i didn't like: No VLAD, i mean come on! It was just a glimpse, but i can manage until his book.

What a way to draw the adventures of Cat and Bones to a close. There was so much emotion packed into this book with everyone playing such incredible roles, I was furiously reading to see what would happen during the dramatic scenes. I'll miss this couple and the group of characters, but definitely will reread the series and fall in love with them all over again.

I read this book in a 24 hour period. I'm a mother of eight and my youngest is nine months old. So when I got a chance to read I was on it. This book was so good I hate putting it down and I had to a lot. It was action pack from beginning to end. It was one adventure after another. I have so enjoyed this book as I have enjoyed other by her. Thank you for the adventures, I can't wait till the next one.

It's been a long happy ride, but this one was not my favorite. Felt like it was about closure, wrapping it up. The bad guy , Madegan, was dealt with. The friends assembled to kick some butt one last time as Bones and Cat head out into the sunset, where ever that is. Finally, Tate was able to give Cat something that Bones couldn't. Cat's humanity would not allow her to walk away from it. Bones just loves Cat and is willing to do whatever to make her happy. HEA --- one big happy family, even Justine.

The battles that Cat and Bones have fought are nothing compared to the one they are up against here. This may not be the bloodiest or most gruesome, but it is one that will change them for all time. Cat is often her own worst enemy, and this time is no exception, so it is up to Bones and their friends to keep her from disaster. Each story in this series is action-packed with a full complement of amazingly diverse characters and super sexy couples.

I am a die hard fan of this series. I have introduced this series to many many people, and absolutely love Cat and Bones. The best couple ever. Jeanine is a gifted writer, and this series is phenomenal. However, why...WHY would you take such an original, brilliant story and give it a twilight ending? <<<<SPOILER>>>> A miracle hybrid child? Come on....NO!!!! Yes...it is a bit different from twilight...but...after that franchise....that plot will never again be original.....
Don't get me wrong....everyone should read this series and I give the overall series a 5.....but the ending and plot of this book....made me want to cry :(

This is one of my favorite series, and I absolutely love these characters. However, the ending was a little detached and just hanging there. I'm hoping that Cat & Bones will make appearances in future books (where is Ian's book?) and maybe that'll help fix this detached feeling. We'll see.
If you've read all the books so far in this series you do need to read this one too just because that's the rule. ;)

A wonderful way to end the series....Or did it really end? This book seems to finally tie all the ends together that threaded through all the prior books. Except maybe not. You will have to read this book and see for yourself if the series is over.

A spectacular finish to an amazing series. Jeaniene Frost finished this wonderfully addictive series on a high. I must admit, I didn't want to read Up From the Grave, because I didn't want the series to finish. At the same time though diving between the pages was wonderful. Filled with new dangers and unforeseen threats it was another spectacular book in the Night Huntress series. A must read series and book.

I have listened to this entire series on Audible. For some reason I never did buy the Kindle books. This is one of my favorite series. I won't rehash the plot as many others have done it far better than I could ever do. This series has it all: a good plot, suspense, mystery, romance and HOT sex. This review contains spoilers. Up from the Grave was a disappointment from the very confusing prologue to the final send-off chapter. I understand that Frost is saying goodbye to Cat and Bones, but she really did the characters a disservice with this storyline. The sex scenes were not up to typical Cat and Bones standards, and Cat's instant mommy-dom and her instant mommy connection to the child left us wondering who the hell this heroine was. In efforts to tie up the series with a nice little bow and HEA, Frost didn't stay true to her characters, and therefore disappointed her readers.

I am incredibly sad to see this series come to an end but I know that seven books is not a bad stretch and it was time. I think that Jeaniene Frost did a good job bringing it home but I feel like maybe there might have been some way to end it with more of a finality because I feel like there should be another book with this ending... hoping that this was done with the purpose of future spin offs and such so I did not dock the stars in regards. For everyone that is griping about the level of kinkiness in this one I have to say that yes, this was a core part of the series, but with a final book I think people should realize that an author has to focus on bringing everything together and to a close not on the filler, unless they are just throwing it together, be thankful that she loved these characters enough to do them justice in this last book. Thank you Jeaniene, I appreciate the world that you wove together here it has given me many nights of entertainment.

Not sure what's wrong with some of the people who wrote low reviews. This book was everything I expected because of the length of the series. Well written, exciting and witty. I thought it was just right. She even left the door open for more. Sure some of the book was predictabele, but again, look at the length of the series. Too bad Vlad wasn't in it more, but I get that he has his own series now. Thanks Jeaniene!

The last installment of The Night Huntress Series closes the series with a bang. There is plenty of love between Cat and Bones, snarky and loyal friends, as well as action and drama to keep you content. Most of our favorite allies are by Cat's side as she goes on the hunt to find out what happened to her missing friends.
Cat and Bones are just as adorable as they always are. I was pretty disappointed with Cat's Uncle. The secrets he has kept from her just kept piling up and the secrets finally revealed left her and her loved ones reeling. Ian is just as snarky and overconfident as he has always been but he has really grown on me and I enjoyed his time in the book. He really is a loyal friend and he has grown a lot since we first met him. I really enjoy Denise. I have not read many of the Night Huntress Universe books but I did read her book and she continues to amaze me. I can not imagine going through what she willingly goes through for those she loves. I had an idea of who Katie was as soon as she was introduced. I really enjoyed watching the emotions of the situation play out and how everyone seemed to roll with the punches that seemed to keep coming.
I fell in love with both Cat and Bones in book 1 and I have looked forward to every installment since. I love their relationship, the world they live in, the characters on their own, the situations they deal with together and apart. I just love everything about this series and I am so sad to see their chapter end.

This book was more than pointless. I would’ve preferred at least another 200 pages regarding the new character that was introduced. It read more like a novella then and actual book about the main characters. It may be time to put these characters to bed and focus on Vlad.

I love the entire Night Huntress series except for this book. Every significant character was crammed into it by some type of senario like it was a farewell party. This book had so much potential. Especially the cool surprise that Cat has a daughter and it failed to make her a bigger part of the story. She should have had her own book. The author should have taken her time and considered making it a 2 book ending instead of rushing to the finish line. It did not have the power & intesity like the rest of the series. It hurts me to say it, but it was a bit of a flop!

After finishing Up From the Grave, my first thought was absolute contentment. The second thought was how in the world am I going to review this book? It was just absolutely everything I could have possibly hoped for in the series ender. While I am more than a little sad to be saying goodbye to my all time favorite character couple, I'm very happy with how things ended up. I have to admit that since this series had these two awesome characters together throughout the entire series, I wasn't really sure what kind of "Happy Ending" there would be that would feel any more finished than we've already seen. Plus of course, Cat and Bones could never lead a simple life, so again, I just didn't know where that finished feeling would come from. While I won't spoil things, I have to say that I'm incredibly impressed with how things turned out. I never could have predicted the outcome, but that made it all the more enjoyable.
The twists and turns in this book were so incredible there were times I felt like I was getting whiplash from being yanked back and forth. There was one action by a character that just floored me. I mean I understand why this person did what they did, but oh my goodness, you cannot imagine my shock and heart-wrenching incredulity at what was happening. Of course now that I'm a bit separated from that event, I realize that despite the shocking nature of it, it was very true to the characters, and honestly that is one of the most impressive things about this series. There has been absolute consistency in how the characters react to things, be they good or bad. Sure there's been plenty of character growth, I mean just look at Cat now vs the start of the series. But when it comes down to it at their core they're still the same people with the same flaws and strengths, and I just really appreciated how true Jeaniene stayed to them. She really held no punches throughout this entire series, but I have to say that UP FROM THE GRAVE might just take the knockout.
I really hope that I have done this absolutely fabulous book and series the justice it deserves in this book. I honestly think this may be the hardest one I've had to say goodbye to, and that's saying something as I've finished a lot of pretty darn good series. Every Cat and Bones lover MUST read this book. There's just no getting around it. From emotions, to danger, to love, to betrayal, loyalty and heartache, this book is an insane roller coaster from start to finish. You'll want to carve out a solid block of time to read this one as once you start, you will not be able to put it down. Run, do not walk to your nearest bookstore and snatch this puppy up. Trust me you'll be glad that you did.

No spoilers, but this is the last book for Bones & Cat. Jeaniene Frost states on her web site there will be no more in this series even if we beg, plead, & send suggestions! She did allude that Cat & Bones may be secondary characters in other books, though.
This was a roller coaster book. So much suspense, murder, & mayhem. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Up From The Grave is the seventh and final book in the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost.
They say that all good things must come to an end, unfortunately for us fans of these books. that means this series that has given us such enjoyment and pleasure in their eagerly anticipated releases has reached it's final swan song.
I hate knowing that this is the last Cat and Bones book, knowing that no more will I read about one of my all-time favorite fictional couples, it makes me feel really sad, I had such a sense of loss after reading this, that when I closed the book it felt like the end of an era, one that I wished had never come.
But I will say one thing, Frost definitely saved the best for last and has let this series go out with a bang and features one of, actually probably THE biggest shock twist in the whole series!
I don't want to give too much away but this book has so much action, right from the get-go, this plus the awesome storyline which helps wrap-up the Cat and Bones saga was perfect, as was the epilogue down to the very last page.
Featuring appearances from all of the characters we've grown to love throughout all of the books, you won't be disappointed, no matter how bittersweet reading this finale is.
What I'm going to do without my Cat and Bones fix every year is beyond me, but these books will definitely be re-read at some point, I can't stay away that long.
I highly recommend that people pick this book up, or for those that have yet to even read the first book, get thee to a bookstore pronto, and I'll sit here feeling jealous of all those people discovering the Night Huntress series for the first time.
A fantastic ending to one of the greatest series ever written.

This series has been wonderful to listen to...but the only minor complaint that I have is that Tania made Bones sound more like Spade and Ian in this book than his normal cockney English accent :( It just threw me...Did anyone else notice that??

I hate to see this being the end for Cat and Bones not to mention all the crew, especially now that Cat found her daughter and Katie- her daughter. All I can say is WOW, there is not must to really say with out spoiling this book, but it was a page turning non stop action filled, and I loved it but sad to see no more :(

The story involves Cat and Bones, 2 vampires on a mission . A mission to find the people responsible for the abduction of 4 of their friends. What they find is as unbelievable as it is evil. Can they stop the evil from advancing any further?

As much as I will miss Cat and Bones I also appreciate it when an author knows when and how to smoothly end a series. I don't like never-ending, repetitive books in a series. So I do recommend this. It's got action and a happy ending. I will miss Bones though! I do love his character!

I started to love the series as a long time Buffy fan, and then it took on a life all its own. Read these from the beginning- in order is best! What a wonderful paranormal romantic adventure ride! I respect Ms. Frost's capturing how a love can grow with time and get better- it's not all about the fire of first meeting and loving, but about the trials Cat and Bones go through together that make their love and passion so bindingly special.

LOVELOVE LOVE cat and bones..... that being said I started this book with mixed emotions knowing it was thee end of cat and bones. But really how can you end a great story and limitless possibilities. I amin mouring right now because I feel like there is more to the stories but on the other hand just because jeanine said no more night huntress she has showed us there are a lot of stories that willbe able tolet see how bones and cat aredoing. Held my breathe ALOT and cried more, giggled and laughed so may emotion run amuck thank u.don't want to give anything away but this rollercoaster ride is awesome!!!!!

This book had twists and turns and plenty of action! My eyes were glued to my kindle. I enjoyed seeing a lot of my favorite characters. I am happy for Cat & Bones. I look forward to reading about some of the other characters in A Night Prince series. I hope Ian will get a book.

I felt so nostalgic after reading this book as if it will be a very long time before we get to see Cat and Bones again on one of their adventures. This was a great story throughout as it revealed a lot of secrets from Cat's past. Great!

This was a great book. It started off a little slow but after the first couple of chapters it really picked up. You definitely have to read all the books in this series first though. It is NOT stand alone! The only complaint I have with this book is that there will be no more in this series. This book leaves you wanting more for sure.

Up From The Grave was worst the wait. The only problem I have is Ms. Gilbert. I love her on some other audiobooks I have but not this one. She took away the maturity of Cat and Bones sounds like a character out of Oliver Twist. Other than that, I enjoyed the storyline.

A very satisfying end to a great series. All the best characters over seven books were there, with some new great twists thrown in. Cat and Bones are an amazing love affair! I'm not going to say anything about the story...I wouldn't want to give anything away. Enjoy!

I have read all of the other books and really enjoyed the first few. I think that the story lines started to go all over the place instead of focusing on the relationships. It was an ok ending for the story, just wish it would have included less characters and more story.

Cat and Bones have been enjoying some quiet time without anyone trying to kill them but all that seems to have been the calm before the storm. Her friends and members of her former government led covert team tasked with dealing with unruly supernaturals have gone missing. As Cat and Bones search for them, they uncover shocking secret experiments and now must find and eliminate everyone responsible before it ignites a war.
How do you end a much loved series? If you’re Jeaniene Frost you go out with a bang and bring everyone your fans adore back for the ride.
Cat receives news of her missing friends that brings her back to her old base to meet with Madigan, who you learn has committed more heinous atrocities in addition to trying to ignite an all-out war between ghouls and vampires in the previous book. Cat and Bones’ relationship is stronger than ever, though they still encounter a few bumps in the road in the form of keeping secrets for the good of the other person. It’s frustrating that it’s still happening but they’re also quicker at getting mad, talking it through, and moving past it. Their relationship hasn’t been better and the trust and devotion they have for one another not only makes their connection stronger, it also makes them better individuals. I have never loved Cat and Bones more than I do in this book.
What’s Madigan up to? I’m not going to dive into all the details because uncovering them for yourself is half the fun and there’s one heck of a “oh sh!t” surprise. He’s been secretly experimenting on ghouls and vampires to make unstoppable human soldiers and the participants in his labs/prisons aren’t there voluntarily. Finding his hidden labs and shutting them down turns out to be just the beginning of what’s lurking in the shadows. As I’ve come to wholeheartedly enjoy from this series, there’s a lot of action and their friends are by their side ready to get their hands bloody. Denise, Spade, Mencheres, and Tyler lend aid but it’s Ian that out shines them all. Ian’s really…I don’t want to say changed because he’s still the same sarcastic, pervy vampire who first busted onto the scene. I think the better word is improved. Yes, he’s improved to become an oddly caring, loyal, lethal creature that only gets better. Plus he’s still sarcastic and pervy which I strongly believe should never change.
Back to Madigan. He’s the reason I didn’t give this book a perfect rating. He’s utterly deplorable and deserves the worst Bones can throw at him but he gets off too easy for my blood thirsty tastes. I wanted more suffering for all the destruction he causes. Much more. Also, I was disappointed with Don. He brings Tate, Cooper, and Juan’s disappearance to Cat but that’s where the voluntary help ends. They had to seek out help to get anything useful out of him. It’s not something Cat wants to put her uncle through and the fact he makes her go to that extreme put him on my naughty list.
Jeaniene Frost does right by her devoted legion and ends the series on a high note by giving us closure with Up From the Grave. I’ll miss Cat and Bones, their life or death crazy adventures, and legendary smutty goodness that went along with it. I’ve reread One Foot in the Grave‘s chapter 32 and This Side of the Grave‘s chapter 21 more times than I probably should admit. I’m sad to see it go but it’ll always be one of my favorite series and I’ll continue to follow Jeaniene and her excellent writing to wherever she takes fans next.

....how I determine that I enjoyed a book...
NO: Am I glad that I PAID for the book?
YES: Was there good and realistic CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT?
YES: Was the PLOT logical and/or interesting?
NO: Would I buy the AUDIOBOOK or REREAD the story because I enjoyed it so much?
The overall book was interesting but the GENERAL STORY ARC IS LOSING STRUCTURE .....which is making me lose interest in finding out "what comes next".

Run around, run around, rush here, rush there, SHOCK, and it's all over.
If you've read any of the reviews or the prologue you already know the big shocker. Talk about Twilight copy-cat. I put up with the 'crystaline' skin details, but enuf already.
This was a good series - but it has a pretty bad ending.

I have to say it was a great way to end the book. But I'm so sorry to see it end. You can't help but want more. Hopefully she will at least write a short story to see how they are in the future. Or create a whole new series from this. I don't want drop any hints to the ending.

I love Jeaniene Frost's "Night Huntress" series and this one didn't disappoint! Bones and Cat are a great couple and when they meet up again with with some old nemeses, it makes for great reading. Jeaniene also did a great job wrapping up their story. I'll miss these characters but feel reassured that I will get to revisit it them in future Frost series!
